HE PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE'RE GOING TO GERMANY IN JUNE AND HE SURVIVED A YEAR OF LEARNING ARABIC!!!!! ❤❤❤
And, it only took 15 minutes for me to figure out the fix; just wish my teammate had done so in the 5 hours he was on the call...14 -
Last year we were given an app to patch that was completely in Arabic (including the documentation). We had a tight deadline to get the app fixed so we paid for a big company to translate the Word document we'd be given.
After 2 weeks we were given the translated documentation only to find it was select recipes from an Egyptian cooking book.1 -
Me vs Facebook support
Me: I'm having trouble with xyz even though I followed your instructions. You have problems with the Arabic language*insert very detailed and professional explanation here with links*
FB Support: please follow the instructions here *insert link*
Me: I already followed those, that's why I'm asking for your help. Please provide detailed instructions.
FB Support: We can't help you, we don't provide detailed instructions, please follow instructions provided in said links.

Happy birthday, Dr. Nabil Ali!
Today’s Google Doodle celebrates Egyptian pioneer of Arabic language computing, Dr. Nabil Ali, on his 82nd birthday. Dr. Nabil Ali’s innovations in the field of computational linguistics propelled the Arab world into the Information Age by creating programs that enabled computers to understand Arabic in digital form.
Dr. Nabil Ali was born in Cairo on this day in 1938. Expressing an interest in art at a young age, Mohamed was inspired to apply his creative passion for visual aesthetics to the world of engineering. After obtaining his PhD in Aeronautical Engineering at Cairo University, he spent over 20 years working as an engineer with the Egyptian Air Force, as well as with various computer and electronics companies throughout the world.
For Dr. Nabil Ali, digitization of Arabic, with its complex linguistic rules and morphology, was a way to connect Arabic speakers with the world.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Nabil Ali published a number of papers, books, and technical reports in support of the developments he was making in the field of computational linguistics. His work won him several awards, including the prestigious Saudi Arabian award, the King Faisal Prize, in 2012—recognizing his pioneering contributions to the Arabic Language and Literature.5 -
Is a "forward slash" or "backslash" called the same in RTL languages like Arabic? Wondering about that because of the direction the slash is according to traditional writing.3

Guys that list 10+ programming languages that are in their skill sets are my favorite. Do you actually know all of them?
It's like saying you're fluent in Spanish, Arabic, English, Hindu, Mandarin, etc.5 -
Those users who'll post reviews for your app on the store in their native Indonesian, German, Arabic or whatever languages automatically assuming that you're a polyglot and you can understand everything. Why not just use English?5

!rant but a question
Anyone has a dumb/plain explanation of these?
I was like WTF is that when I discovered those options.. I googled and it's connected to arabic language.. but I cannot find any explanations what each of those options do..
So if anyone know and has the time and patience to clarify, please do! Thanks in advance!3 -

Left my pc unlocked. My group mates changed my Facebook language to Arabic. Had a hard time changing it back :/1
-
I'm confused about this.
Is it possible to develop a programming language using non English language like Hindi, Arabic, Japanese etc..11 -
A shitty platform that, although open source, there is no clearly documented way of setting a development environment for it. This pile of crap states clearly that it does NOT support RTL languages. One of the core business requirements is Arabic support. What to do? Look for other platforms? WRONG!
Base the fucking business on it and ask ME to see why the SQL database is not encoding the Arabic characters correctly and to look into the logs that back-end puked. My expertise is mobile development anyways damnit. Sure the backend code is Java code (Java jokers and haters, not the appropriate place) and I know it but there is no fucking way to test that motherfucker or to build it! No fucking testing server can be made! Only instructions to get a Docker image pulled and set up.
FML.
"This company is a fucking م."
I cannot believe I am so frustrated that I am ending this rant with a fun puzzle.
Hints to help you decipher the quoted sentence:
Hint 1: That Arabic letter is the perfect letter.
Hint 2: You don't need to be an Arab to understand what it means.6 -
Possibily the weirdest coincidence I've experienced... I was just searching for, specifically and explicitly, the ebook version of O'Reilly pocket references for a babydev since physical copies, if/when available, are expensive and slow delivery. While googling the PHP one, somehow, 1984 (orwell) in russian was oddly high in the search results.
1984 is my favourite book and I've been meaning to take time to brush up on my russian. Normally I'd blame the result on things like tracking data, but this was via a clean, isolated, never logged into anything, system. The only factors that couldve been skewing results are my explicit locale settings, primary- german/germany, secondary- english/US, additional languages- dutch, russian, arabic, spanish. No other cookies or previous search history and using a static IPv4 that has been allocated, but until a few hours ago, totally unused for ~6mo (part of my /28 block).
It's so serendipitous that I keep mulling over everything trying to figure out wtf I missed... seriously, how the hell does "O'Reilly pocket reference php ebook" return a russian paperback of 1984???
I'm totally gonna find and buy one now too (the actual result is costly, plus would ship from germany so more costly).5 -
Hello fellow devs! I am thinking of learning an new language the following year ( not programming 😂 ). Which languages do you think is the best for a programming career ?

Wanted to get a haircut. My normal barber closed, so I just went to the closest one where arabic looking guys are working (as they are usually amazing with beards...) And you wouldn't belive it...
You need to schedule an apointment! Not just walk in, get offered something to drink, wait your turn and crack stupid jokes with the waiting guys...
