Spent nearly a day to get this tiny laptop-tablet to work.

I got myself a second hand Asus T100TAF but Linux compatibility was far to be found. Online resources said I'd be very lucky if I'd even get the touchscreen or the WiFi to work.

I've been installing distro's all day and I finally have a working version!

Lubuntu with Budgie as desktop environment. Touchscreen works out of the box and some random person on the Linux mint forum linked to a github thing. Lost all hope already but this made the fucking WiFi work.

Can dock and undock it and it works great.

Being a self taught developer, you never really have anyone to thank. Got arch Linux working on my laptop.

Installed Budgie GNOME, Cairo dock, Termite, VS Code, Code::Blocks, Android Studio, IntelliJ....

Maybe I’m stupid, or Ubuntu Budgie sucks, but every time after tiny update, the system says I need to reboot. Just like Windows!

I think I’m gonna switch to Manjaro from Ubuntu Budgie... At least on laptop for a test drive.

Finally dumped windows from my tower/gaming rig!!!

I'm now running Ubuntu Budgie and Windows 10 inside a qemu/kvm VM with gpu passthrough. That way I have almost-native performance and no additional setup effort for installing games.

So my dad wants to try out Linux. I’m thinking of giving him Ubuntu Budgie or Linux Mint Cinnamon... Any suggestions?

It's my yearly cleanup day, when I fully nuke down my windows installation, to clean out all the installed trash and residue.

Have moved all important data and I will be ready to fully refresh my computer as soon as it syncs, heres the question though.

I decided this time I'll create a dev vm, so I can just each time reset to point 0 and also because I miss having local development.

What new linux distros or flavours are out there that would be worth looking at? (I saw things like ubuntu budgie being mentioned)

If you use it and it doesnt break if I sneeze, mention it, I am open to getting to know other environments, even if its not my usual debian homeplace.

Decided to fresh install ubuntu due to unexpected freezes, now I am stalling the Budgie flavor because J reaally wanted Solus.. but they still lack support for a lot of packages.

Well, now I have to set it up and its 12 am.. good for me.

If you are writing all your code from scratch, you are probably an amateur.
If you are copying and pasting most of your code, you are probably a beginner.

I often have the problem of messing up my Linux installation, it gets unstable or the desktop envoirment gets slow / unresponsive

I want to switch to Ubuntu (with budgie) for quite a while but I'm afraid I mess up my system again...

Any tips for an inexperienced Linux person? tips to keep your system healthy and stable, tings to avoid when installing (like adding unofficial ppa...)

Budgie up and running. Tho, I had an issue overload cpu, and stopped previews-creator. Is that even safe?

Anyways, half of my customized deepin shit doesn't work properly anymore. It's a piss off. Wondering if a downgrade would help.

If shit stops breaking for six more months, I might be able to finish uni and go back to workforce properly, where cash-cash-dollar can buy me a new laptop, or a workstation that allows me to duck around with current laptop.

Like, being a student again has been so unnerving. Won't do it ever again. (a PhD doesn't count as study 😜)

What desktop do you like for Linux? Looking at budgie and kde. I used gnome and unity way back but didn't care much for either.

Budgie isn't my best match, but I'm not gonna go back to deepin either. It broke my heart and now I'm done so it can choke on my non-existant dick. *inset darth vader joke*

I finally did it. I installed Arch linux + Unity 3D + VSCode + budgie + vertex + sddm-deepin in virtualbox....

What a fucking journey and a half that was.
Now to install on an ssd for real...

My thoughts on the process:

1.) This is not for the faint of heart.
2.) Be preapred to devote some time getting it all right.
3. This was actually quite a rewarding process.

Thinking about installing a Linux distro on my home computer as the second OS. Any recommendations on which distro to use? I'm not a total beginner, I just haven't used any desktop environments for Linux yet. I'm currently having a look at Arch + Budgie - any previous experiences?

Spent all day testing different desktop environments and themes/icons. Finally settled for Vanilla Ubuntu with the Budgie-Desktop environment, arc-theme dark and paper icons. What are you running?

spent close to 3 hrs trying to figure out why my server wasn't serving my webpage (consisting of both static files and HTML) only to find out I deleted the content in the base file that all other files were supposed to extend from. Ah! a month's work! Thank God for version control. How did people survive before? 🤔

Welp, since I wasn't able to compile Vpython on Arch due to the broken API, I will try to do it in a VM running Ubuntu since they have a dedicate package for them.
It's also a good opportunity to try Budgie DE.
I really hate using outdated programs :(

So I've been running into a bug on my arch/budgie system. It's not a huge deal but just something that bothers me a little. Basically, the nm-applet isn't displaying the network icon in the main panel, aka taskbar. Seems to be something specific to budgie maybe? Bc it appears in gnome and the network appears to have started in both cases. Anyways, I've searched around online with no solutions yet :/ A workaround I've had was to install network-manager-applet and have that start up instead. Seems to work until you click the icon and then click away and it disappears, aka I guess kills the process. Any other solutions or has anyone experienced this?

is there a particular reason why I loose the Ubuntu (or gnome idk) settings app when I uninstall cheese in my Ubuntu-budgie VM?
cheese is just a webcam program right?
