Now I'm scared that I will forget my ideas, before I get back home...

I used to read.. A lot. Long and complicated stories, where the plot would only unveil itself after a long time. I used to dig myself into a book, learning about the writer's thoughts and mental image, reflecting on our differing viewpoints on the question at hand. I didn't expect action or beauty, merely thoughts which, by themselves, constitued a value to me.
But pulp and especially social media had lowered my attention span to the point that even reading through a short story without getting sidetracked takes a lot of effort. I still value what I used to value, the only thing that's changed is that I no longer have the patience and I feel discomfort due to the lack of sensations.
What do I do? Had anyone solved this problem before?

Alcoholic Programmer

Last year, I had an inevitable programming session while I was drunk. I didn't struggle at all. I programmed like composing a poem. Btw I have been programming for last 18 years and never enjoyed this much after college programming labs.
Since then I've been drinking before complicated logics and never disappointed.

Tl;dr. Programming is fun, but programming is unparalleled when drunk.

Why can't managers understand that functionality changes and UX changes should be two separate epics? There's a huge fucking difference between composing an UI from existing components vs. having to figure out new components while at the same time paying attention to 12234234 new scenarios while at the same time duplicating existing components because existing portion of the app has to keep old UX.

And then they say bullshit like "we need solutions, not problems". Fuck you. Solution is to keep existing UX and focus on functionality, and do complex UX changes when functionality is well-defined and STABLE. But no, you fuckers won't listen even when the fucking lead dev tells you to.

Tl;dr: perfectly fine commandline system is replaced by bad ui system because it has a ui.

For a while now we have had a development k8s cluster for the dev team. Using helm as composing framework everything worked perfectly via the console. Being able to quickly test new code to existing apps, and even deploy new (and even third party apps) on a simar-to-production system was a breeze.

Introducing Rancher

We are now required to commit every helm configuration change to a git repository and merge to master (master is used on dev and prod) before even being able to test the the configuration change, as the package is not created until after the merge is completed.

Rolling out new tags now also requires a VCS change as you have to point to the docker image version within a file.

As we now have this awesome new system, the ops didn't see a reason to give us access to kubectl. So the dev team is stuck with a ui, but this should give the dev team more flexibility and independence, and more people from the team can roll releases.

Back to reality: since the new system we have hogged more time from ops than we have done in a while, everyone needs to learn a new unintuitive tool, and the funny thing, only a few people can actually accept VCS changes as it impacts dev and prod. So the entire reason this was done, so it is reachable to more people, is out the window.

Two hours spent in fixing everything and a sleepless night.

In my experience object oriented is very good for composing high level abstractions into a complete system. Functional is awesome for validation, parsing and massaging data in any way and imperative is tithe most useful paradigm to handle side effect dependent code that either manipulate the computers state ( read/write) or communicate with external systems.

The people acting as if one of them is the one true way are misleading you.

In this installation, the Author's desire to prove the whole world that stupidity is achievable with just 2 syntax elements is... self-evident!

Observe! The finely crafted letters composing this installation in their beauty! While the middle element is purely a distraction (one could argue it's there to be sure a critical issue doesn't happen even if the default value is already `true`), the sides of the installation reveals the true horror.

As the vision of the observer is attracted to the center, the peripheral vision sends the informations to the subconcious, making the observer slowly realize both that the Author willingly compiled `.less` files with postcss and that .less files are in the css folder, proving that stupidity is demonstrable in just two syntax elements.

The double-edged sword of teamwork. I'm an indie Game dev, so I have no choice but to work with others of completely different fields. I enjoy it and I get a lot of motivation seeing things done and learning many new disciplines, but team projects have so many downsides when you have to handle everything from programming to cinematography that someone else was meant to do.

My final team uni project I even had to do our music composing cause our sound effects guy did almost nothing in 6 months (he wrote 6 midi notes in 2 weeks at one point).

None of my colleagues are programmers, I explain the problem to them. Then suddenly I see the errors in my ways. Or I start composing an email explaining the problem to another programmer, I usually figure it out before I hit send. The method has been given a name, I've forgotten what. Anyone knows?

short: free/cheap music making software?

Can someone recommend me some neat, free (or affordable one-time payment) music composing software / Digital Audio Workstation? I don't have a MIDI keyboard, I'd do everything per mouse/computer keyboard input. Windows btw

I'm working with an API where, for some reason, half of the numbers are returned as numbers and half as strings. I'm baffled more than David composing hallelujah.

so i did this nice tool with data structures, dynamic ui composing, input sanitizing, modularity and scalability with tidy and efficient javascript and useful css.

Idea, a devrant type website that can be split into different work groups, animation, programming, composing, ect. and then subgroups for more specific jobs, like Reddit and DevRant fused together.

I started using Gmail labs canned response feature. Access it from gear / settings / lab / canned responses. When composing new email or responding its in little dropdown next to trash can icon. Might save you time.

I am so in the habit of pressing cmd+s every time I write some text, I accidentally created dozens of devrant.io html pages in my downloads folder while composing this rant!

The biggest drawback to QObject is you cannot template a class that inherits from QObject. It is an fucking pain in the ass. I have more work arounds and boiler plate because of that crap. I end up with code that if I find in the wild I would say: "wtf is this shit?" I end up composing stuff just to make it work together without coupling too hard. I guess if it works it works. If one of you cunts ends up working on this code I will apologize right now. But I won't be sorry one bit.
