A little story that made me really happy. A friend and me was building stuff for fun with electronic in it.

A neighbor child (14) came over and wanted to join us and build also stuff for cosplaying. She is almost done with her stuff and waiting for the painting. My friend needed to program stuff for his arduino. She was watching him.

And now he's teaching her how to program. And she starts to understand that make me really happy to see a new little developper growing there ♡

I self-training on PHP, Ruby, Python, C# during 1 year without knowledge in programming. Now I finally find a job as professionnal web developper, without degree !

I'm recruiting a new dev to my team, and that just happened.

Last month I had to go to the hospital due to gallstones gallbladder. The nurses asked me several times what was my job, and I repeated at least four of five times times that I was a web developper.
When the anesthesist came, he put the mask on my mouth and ask me AGAIN what was my job. My answer sounded like "webshpsh dechvelopscher", so he asked me to repeat because he didn't understand what I said. The nurse helped me, but said: "she is a web designer".
Problem: the anesthesist had already started to make me sleep. So I just could moan "Nooooooooo..." and had to sleep with the anesthesist thinking I was a web designer.
I don't know why, but knowing that he thought that stressed me. Am I weird?

First time posting, hopefully I got this right!

So, we have that fabulous application that lets you update translations at will directly from within it. Of course, we also ship basic translations in perfectly indigestible PO files.

That particular client *really* wants to have his translations updated before going on-premise, but it would be too much of a hassle to put that in a CSV and import it into the app. Better ask the only developper on the project to update all PO files one after the other just because "we don't like that word, we'd prefer to see that perfect synonym there". Also, the rest of the project - aka the actual development - should not be delayed because of this.

And of course the translations are provided in the form of screenshots of part of the application with words highlighted in yellow over a white background. Good luck finding the right string in the right file.

Best part of intern developper : that feel when you present what you've done to the users, and they're fond of it.

I got stuck in a shitty situatuion in which i have to choose between being a front-end+mobile developper and back-end. I have to answer my company today, the problem is that i like both domains.

I was trying to learn HTML CSS so that I could become a fullstack developper yet felt so bored doing so I didn't like them at all, did anyone else go through this why learning them also? Think I'll stick to django.

What is a roadmap to become a fullstack web developper ?

I have a guy that will come in a few hours to discuss about an e-commerce website he wants to start his business. I've accepted to do it freelance.

Things are a little quick for my taste, but I know myself enough to know that if I don't jump head first, I'll back out and miss on an opportunity to add something valuable to my resume (and get a bit of money).

The thing is : I have nearly zero experience in 1) e-commerce websites and 2) client relationship and managing. So that will be a great challenge to me, but that's precisely what I need right now.

Anyway, I'm coming to you to ask a few questions : assuming his requirements are simple and common for an online shop, should I create it from scratch or would it be wiser to use a dedicated framework (Prestashop, Wix, etc.). If the latter, which one would you recommend, cost and efficiency-wise.

Still assuming simple and common requirements, how much time would it likely take, for an average developper (I'm no Linus Torvalds) working on average 8h a day ? More like 2-3 months, or more like 5-6 months ? I'm leaning more towards 2-3, but since I don't have experience in these kind of websites, I find a lot of user stories that might take me time to figure out.

Last but not least, what would be approximately an honest price, technical costs aside (domain, host, potential framework, etc.) for that kind of work. And for maintenance ?

A couple of months ago I bought a two year licence for PHPStorm but shortly after I started this new job as React Web developper and everyone in my new team has been using Visual Studio Code with a specific set of plugins and settings which make I my premium IDE useless.
