My brother and I have been messing with our IBM 5150 and doing cool stuff with it. I got it to play a youtube video via telnet via my bro's mac via mplayer with libcaca (ascii video output) + youtube-dl (a youtube downloader. The mac is doing all the heavy lifting, but it is still cool to see these images on a IBM 5150, just by typing a few commands on that old keyboard... more fun projects to come with this old thing.7

First thing every developer should do when buying a new computer is to download chrome using the built in downloader
1. Just click on start menu
2. Search for "chrome downloader"
3. Click on the downloader icon
4. From here it should be easy :)12 -
I keep a backup of most installers because I have a poor internet connection.
Imagine my disappointment when one of them is just a downloader for the full installer.2 -
Download playlist from YouTube in Linux by installing "YouTube-dl"
It's really amazing Downloader for Linux even you can download single video by typing "YouTube-dl URL" . 😊 😊8 -
Yes!!! Only took one morning.... (changed the Downloader from WebClient to Selenium to get past the bot check, cant find old rant)
Good test for new PC other than games I guess... I can code and compile my projects.9 -
Well fuck me, thought I could use pyload for my youtube music playlist downloader (has live progress updates, can download playlists, can be setup to download via cron too and ignore existing files..), but the plugin hasn't been maintained for a year (fails with ~60-80% of videos), it was based on youtube-dl code, which has been updated, but fixing that plugin with the code from youtube-dl would take a while, ughhh..2

Hey guys, I created this application for Linux users that lets you download and install multiple essential softwares/tools at once. It's something like Ninite (in Windows) but for Linux. So I called it Linite! It's still new, so it doesn't support many distros yet.
Now, I know there are many package managers and stuff, but I just wanted to make something really simple/basic and user friendly that can help even new Linux users. I was learning Python so I just thought it'd be nice to do some project.
Please do check it out and I'd love to get some feedback. Link's below!

In context to my previous rant(s)*
As much as fixing up the pyload youtubecom plugin and giving back to the project sounds great, I'd be just shooting myself in the knee, because youtube-dl has active support that fixes things whenever they break, where as with the plugin I would have to constantly fix it based on what the youtube-dl project does.
So I might just write my own wrapper around youtube-dl since it apparently has progress_hooks that return all I'll need, might even get into python again, have been quite rusty on that.

Dilbert no longer lets me leech their comics from their site... It was a good... 10 years?
Seems I need to rebuild my Downloader... using Selenium.
Now...where is that project where i used Selenium...1 -
I was really tired 2hrs ago.... but then I found some motivation.
So basically I wrote an image viewer app (also has a scraper and a downloader).
The Viewer component loads each image 1 at a time... but these are like 4MB each so there's like 5s lag...
It's now 11:30PM and I have just finished implementing a cache so it pre-loads N pictures before and after the current one.
Now moving between images is so fast and smooth...
TLDR.... girls can actually motivate you to code some amazing stuff... even when you're tired.
I clipped just the top as well... the rest is NSFW....6 -
Right.. I spent the hours leading up to the year change by adding a YouTube to MP3 downloader into my Telegram bot. After a bit of fiddling it turned out okay, and the commit for it was mentioned to the last for the year 2020.
I mentioned this in one of my chats, and users came in with more issues. Told them it's the last commit for the year and I'll keep myself to it. I did adjust the code a bit though to fix those issues, awaiting a commit after midnight.
Midnight passes and 2020 turns into 2021.
I commit the new features, and quickly implemented another one I already thought of as well, but needed its own commit.
Quickly afterwards it turns out that the /mp3 feature actually breaks the bot somewhat, especially on long tracks. Users add a slew of 10h songs into what essentially became a long queue of single-threaded bot action (or rather lack thereof).
I made the /mp3 command accessible to myself only like I did with some other administrative commands already. Still no dice, the bot rejected the commands but executed part of the /mp3 command anyway.
I look a bit further into the code and it turns out that while I was restructuring some functions, I forgot to make the admin() function exit the script after it sends the rejection onwards. This was a serious security issue and meant that all authentication was void. Fortunately the chat did not realize this - one of the commands that became available as a result was literally a terminal on the bot's system.
I fix the issue in 7 commits after midnight total, 3 of which were related to /mp3 and admin(). We're now 1 hour after midnight.
Happy New Year everyone... :')6 -

Hi, I just created this website ( for myself ). then thought, would be nice to get some feedbacks.
It can download videos, images, playlist, reels ( & you name it ) from Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, Pinterest etc.
Created using NextJS, Material UI, usm-redux ( https://npmjs.com/package/... ), etc
Feel free to give it a try. Thanks17 -
My first version of a website downloader is complete! I finally worked the bugs out. Now on to the second......3

Shoutout to https://ytmp3.cc for being the only web youtube downloader that actually works, is actually quick, downloads "copy-protected by copyright" videos and has a dark theme.
Only the occasional popup ad on mobile, too. Goddamn this is good.
only downside is that it's always Highest Available quality and only MP3/MP4... but other than that it's fucking amazing6 -
Just saying hello. I'm a Google Store chronic downloader and found this. I'm so happy to see so much conversation around coding. I've been learning by myself for 2 months and since then I've been desperate to have someone to talk about programming and stuff. I hope I can learn more and have fun here :)5

Ok.... why doesn't this come in an ISO... or a more straightforward downloader.... WTF!
I just want core and maybe C++.... and it's for a future install.... I have 2015... not gonna upgrade til I have to upgrade Windows or get a new PC... Was just planning to save it on my external HDD...6 -
I wanted to make a website downloader in Java, despite the existence of wget. So I made one. However, it's just in it's early stages. I'm open to making this took a little broader and upgrading how it downloads websites. GitHub: https://github.com/YoungCode26/...5

Do you know how hard it is to find a safe, virus free YouTube downloader that actually works? Very hard. How about one that downloads a whole playlist? Impossible.13

Theses operating systems are real! I once installed "Nyarch Linux" on on old laptop. Comes with some great pre-installed software. Such as, Catgirl Downloader, and Material UwU.😅There has got to be more joke-operating systems out there.5

Haven't been reading Dilbert for other a month but finally got around to it today. I read it through an app I made that downloads all the comics from the site.
Well apparently the downloader downloaded too much/too fast. It seems my IP is now blocked....
Wonder if it's temporary. O well... I got VPNs... -
I imagine what I want it to do at its core and what I need. Then research and get to work!
Started building a YouTube downloader using nficano's Pytube library.
I know there are a ton of them out already, but I am doing this to learn some Python and nuances. I tried YouTube-dl but that's more cli oriented and I've already built cli GUI wrappers before.
So the key I think is persevering even if it's already been done. By building this I'm learning tkinter, Python in general, and when I try to build this into an executable (so the user won't need to have Python) I'll learn how that works too. -
Been using a jump drive compiled as NTFS for my sneaker net. I copied some file to it from Ubuntu 18.04. I take to Windows machine and it says there are errors (does this a lot). Usually it works fine. The files I copied are not there. They were downloaded web pages as Windows machine is not on net. I noticed the file names have characters like #, ? and ` in them. So I reformat the jump drive to exFat. I copy the files from Ubuntu plus a bunch of other files. It errors like crazy on stuff that copied fine before with NTFS. Not a solution. So I find an alternate downloader for web pages I want to copy (does not have funky characters in filenames). I reformat back to NTFS on jump drive.
So basically if I want to copy files from my Ubuntu system I am stuck with NTFS and always repairing the filesystem. Yes, all my libraries for exFAT are up to date in Ubuntu.
Is there ever going to be a better way?
When is Windows going to grow up and support ext4?
Why?
Its 2019 and we still have incompatible networks and filesystem formats.7 -
Netflix "Smart Downloader" downloading 4 episodes of a TV show. That I already finished. Fucking Smartass

I been at my parents for almost a month now and remembered finally that I had some of my apps backed up to GDrive, mainly Dilbert downloader... Thanks to seeing some comics on devrant.
I needed to install GDrive to sync the folders but to my surprise the number of filters just to sync my projects folder which also has the installers was > 1000...
It turns out I copied .git for all the projects...4 -
Another follow up. All these apps I m using to analyze the logs now, I apparently built years ago when I had 20% time or slack.
Even I don't remember that I already built some of them...
I was actually thinking ", wouldn't it be great if we could download all the logs at once for a specific API and date?" and then I open my AiO WPF app and it has button titles Logs Downloader... and it's located next to another that I found a few days ago, Logs Analyzer.
This stuff is going in a blog post I hope.... So guess you can just think of these as keynotes. -
Anyone notice how fucking difficult it is to install software from GitHub... well for amateurs mostly. I went through pretty much hell to simply install a spotify playlist downloader script from GitHub. Had I not have had Python installed I would have had to download that too. You Install Python, Google a guide to get the pip command up and running. Download the software. PIP it? Then you find out it uses 3 custom libraries that have to be installed separately. Oh that reminds me, u still need an IDE to open the script and figure that, on your own. Then the script is super buggy, expected though it was still in development. I have no idea where I am going with this. Point is ppl need to get better with hosting code at GitHub. And it wouldn't hurt to include a guide to installation in ReadMe.md OR Installation.md. Ok am done now xd5

OpenSource is fun they said. I being a bored teen thought, ah, another chance to experiment. Discover something new. Now I am into piracy, movies, music, software. If I can get it for free I ain't paying for it. So I went on to GitHub to see what exciting new Repos I could contribute to. I hate already implemented plenty of algorithms in GO for GitHub.com/TheAlgorithms so I was looking something more practical, more beneficial to society. Then I saw it, the perfect repo, not too complex and not amateur. SpotDL/spotify-downloader for downloading songs from Spotify, a grey area coz it's technically piracy. Well not from Spotify, we fetch the info from the Spotify API and search for the songs on YouTubeMusic. They were just about to release v3, a complete rewrite of the codebase stressing code readability and stuff. I spend about a day studying the codebase, trying to findout just where I could make my contribution. I can see outright that there's a huge problem with implementation.
First of all the script spawns 4 processes for downloading songs though you might be downloading only one song. Which means for everytime you run the script you have to wait for 4 other processes to be spawned before any downloading can happen. Sure this is faster when you are downloading more than like 4 songs, but it's actually slower when downloading a single song. But I ignored that coz I assumed that most users download playlists and albums. Anyway we talked with the like lead developer and he was all like, make those PRs anytime you feel like. So I made a really minor first contribution.
I introduced download from Spotify URI functionality, modified like 10 lines of code. I was half expecting that the PR would be merged within hours at most 24 hours coz of how minor of a contribution it was, 5 days in it was pending. So I tagged the lead Dev and he was all appreciative of the PR, calling it real 'clean code' and stuff. 3 more days, the PR is still not merged. I have now stacked 4 more commits to the same PR, I tag the dev and he's like he's waiting to see if my 'feature' will get atleast 10 upvotes so that it can be merged, he links an issue. I go to the issue and my feature is not there, So 11 days after I made my PR I have to write a comment explaining the 'feature' introduced in my PR and then wait for 10 upvotes.
I was like f**k this, I'll just develop on my fork if you want the features on my fork, you will make your own PR! I am so done with OpenSource, development is slow. I have no idea how you guys do it. I can't handle development where I don't have write access.6 -
Hey guys please check out my first android App.It's a Free TV Series Downloader.
It's called Molvix and available on the Google Play store.

i just bought a mac and i realized that itunes cost a lot of money.
