Hi, rant. I've just finished one of my hobby work. :D
Just another O'RLY book cover generator, written in Golang/Vue, supporting more glyph like CJK.
You may try it on https://rly.nanmu.me/
Source code is available via MIT license on https://github.com/nanmu42/orly
Cheers. :)10 -
The best software license ever seen :
my patches and additions on top of Ian's code are licensed under the ABSE ("Anyone But Stefan Esser") license.
note that an additional exception to the license is added, forbidding use/redistribution of said content to his
trainees as well, but only when in a 5 mile radius from "Stefan Esser" or while holding any sort of (video)conference/chat with him.
note that this license will only be used as long as what would capstone decode / that one other arm64 ida
plugin thing by i0n1c ("Stefan Esser") are not under the MIT license.
afterwards, all exceptions are cleared and basically WTFPL applies
if you need a copy of the rest of the license feel free to google it or something.3 -
Hey everyone, cozyplanes here with another quick excel prank i thought of.
It is called TEEST, and the technique behind is simple, but interesting. Recommend taking a look, and pranking with your friends.
The following is the README of TEEST (Text in Excel Every Single Time) in Github.
You can check the simple project here ( https://github.com/cozyplanes/teest )
Disclaimer: Do not use or modify neither the program or the source code to make software violating the law.
### How do I use it?
1. Head to https://github.com/cozyplanes/teest and download the latest release `EXE` file.
1. Windows may warn you with the missing signature. The file is a DEBUG file, so there isn't a publisher signature. You can proceed downloading anyway since it has been virus checked by the developer.
2. Type the message you want to display in the textbox.
3. Click `Save text` button.
5. To check the file, click `Cancel` button in the opened popup dialog.
### What happens?
When an MS Excel file (`.xlsx`) has been opened, by using TEEST, two files gets opened.
1. The original file user opened
2. Excel file named `message.txt` with the custom message you have written.
`message.txt` excel file will open every single time a person opens a excel file.
*In some older versions of Excel, the message may overlap with the user opened file.*
### Why does this happen?
When MS Excel program is executed, it is programmed to check the files in the following 2 folders.
- `C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office[versionnumber]\XLSTART`
- `C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART`
In normal conditions, there is no file in those folders (or the folders doesn't exist at all) but when you use TEEST and click `Save text` button, it saves `message.txt` file in the folders above. From MS Excel is executed again, it will find out there is a file in the folders above, so it will show those text files in Excel.
### Where is this technique used?
There should be a lot of software using this trick, but it is widely known for ransomwares such as `GandCrab` and `TeslaCrypt` displaying decryption methods in MS Excel by this trick.
### How can I disable it?
1. Open TEEST again.
2. Click `Save text` button and click `Cancel` in the following popup.
3. Delete `message.txt` file in the opened explorer.
### LICENSE
This software is under the MIT License. Refer to the `LICENSE` file for more information.

I'm raging all over the place at the moment. I've just inherited possibly the worst PHP project (Codeigniter) in 10 years.
Apart from the fact that the previous developer has created 87 different header and footer files (same content, but each screen has different footer file for some reason, i.e. footer-login.php, header-login.php, footer-profile.php, header-profile.php etc.), he seems to like adding the following comment all over the place: "Released under MIT license: http://opensource.org/licenses/..." to some how protect is shitty code. I mean take a look at the below of some high quality, propriety Jquery he's written, under MIT.4 -
How to mess with Github Copilot:
1. create open source repo with MIT license
2. create generic functions that solve specific problems
3. put violent, racist, sexist, phobic, political, etc phrases in the code
4. get other people to fork the repo and make their own versions
5. watch as people get upset over copilot being evil and putting shit into their code4 -

True its a two days old story but now ReactJs 16 is out, and license is now MIT.
this is a good way to start my day :) -
A brain whenever someone is working on a project:
Does the person I control have motivation? If so, I remember the person of another task so he/she/helicopter can't work on it.
Does the person I control have time?
If so, I set the person's motivation level to zero.
After this extremely accurate research I think we are better of by removing our brain.
BTW, I publish this research here under the MIT license.3 -
I love Microsoft softwares and Apple hardware but I try to keep them away from me to prefer free softwares or at least MIT license things.
That's something that makes me feel guilty.4 -
**I move away from the mic to prepare for the --'s
Lol @ GPL... No license which proposes a restriction on the user's actions can be considered "free as in freedom".
The MIT license comes close, but mandates the inclusion of a copy of the license.
The WTFPL, while designed to use humor to bring attention to this very problem, still fails in its goal by incorrectly stating that "changing [the license] is allowed as long as the name is changed". Wrong: it's allowed because anybody is allowed to type what they want into a text document.
The only good one I've found is the Unlicense (http://unlicense.org). Unlike the others, it's not a prescription for what you may do with your own property, under threat of force; it's simply a friendly notice that you actually respect the rights of the user and would never imagine legally violating them.2 -
GPL or MIT License ? What you guys prefer to contribute, use, or whatever on Open Source software?8
-
The way I understand software licenses.
Cool bro MIT: Free to do whatever you want as long as you include a copy of the license and you can't hold the original accountable.
fair dude Apache 2.0: Like the MIT license but more bureaucratic and few more minor things you need to keep track of.
scumbag GPL: free as in the same way that prison food is free. used by java in gotcha cases as a source of revenue because no one understands java licensing. Often used in the form of a deterrent so you never dare to open up the github page.
scumbag GPL who, realising they have no friends, becomes slightly less of a dick LGPL: But please stop using this and use our more restrictive "freedom" license.
I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice.13 -
How I hate all those people who think VisualStudio Code is Open Source. It's not! Read the f*cking license!
https://code.visualstudio.com/licen...
In fact, you aren't even allowed to inspect its network traffic. Not to mention reverse engineering. That's nowhere near OpenSource.
You sure can download the source code, licensed as MIT, but building it won't give you the same piece of software.
Don't believe in everything someone tells you. Use your brain and check the facts.12 -
Did anyone see this guy's tweets yet?
Read them, they're especially interesting when put into the context of the current GitHub affairs.
