Met a guy in the gym, he asked me to make him an online shop for supplements.
I quickly made a reactive, angular based shop with an admin page.
He paid, I put my name as the creator, it was all good...
...then he removed all legal products and added tons of anabolic steroids for horses in little jars (yes, he even added pro level photos).
I received a call from the police and had to prove that I don't manage his content.16 -
Fun fact.
The HTTP error 451 means "content is not available because of legal reasons".
The name comes from Ray Bradbury's book Fahrenheit 451, which is about a dystopian society where books and literature are censored by the government.7 -
This is how I feel most of my client proposal start:
* It's simple, I'd like to re-invent <the wheel>.
* All I want to do is use <rocketship engine> on <old typewriter>.
* I'm too cheap to hire a full-time < DBA, DevOps engineer, development team>. Can I pay you pennies?
* I'm poor and broke, can you do this for free?
* I'd like to <commit illegal act> and be <legal compliant standard>.
* I heard it was possible to <fly 30 people to the moon> using <Ford Model-T>. Please do this for us.
* I <sold my house>, but now <I'm locked out by the new owners>. Please help.11 -
So, I’m a software engineer at one of the FANG companies, and a “friend” from college that I haven’t talked to in years suddenly messages me, asking for my work email. I’m like, why would you ever need that? And he replies, “I’m gonna send you an email with a link, can you open it from your work computer? I’ll pay you for doing that, and it’s totally legal.”
Yeah... how about fuck no.
He blocked me after I refused.11 -
Been lurking here for a while. Finally pissed off enough to post.
Been programming in Ada for nearly a decade now. One of the few younger devs who knows the language well. Have a large collection of libraries and tools written in it, open source. Done contract work. Looking to get out of my current line of work, which is medicine, because fuck this recent legal climate. I'm spending all my time dealing with legal compliance and it rapidly changing.
I see a job posting from a company looking for a programmer to mostly write testing stuff for clients. They mostly work with Ada. I've written a whole unit testing and integration testing framework. Perfect. Apply. "You don't have the required skills." Oh... K then.
Wanna guess what I was just offered as contract work. Same company. I guess i'm fucking qualified if you asswipes sought me out to ask me to fix your fucking bullshit.
What the hell is wrong with management and HR in recent years?9 -
I don't even know if this should be a rant or a good thing, but here it goes:
my boss smokes (legal) weed in the office, under the AC, so the smoke goes up and it spreads all over the place => we all get a bit stoned8 -
Business idea: panties with HTTP status codes printed on them.
451 for our underaged customers - unavailable for legal reasons
411 to crush a man's self esteem - Length required
429 for girls with stalkers - too many requests
402 for our professional customers - payment required
And, of course, 202 - Accepted22 -
Tonight I want to try to setup an openvpn server with mysql based authentication because I'd love to somehow setup/become a vpn provider.
Of course there's a huge ass legal part but let's first make sure I know the technology of the top of my head!
Just ranting this out because I'm excited 😊20 -
Sales manager: Hi all, we are launching a new internal hackathon. Form up a team with the right expertise to help with address the problem statement and get going!
Me: what’s the problem statement?
Sales manager: you have to sign up first. There’s proprietary company info with our plans for next year involved. You have to agree to terms and conditions before continuing. Legal say so.
Me:
*signs up*,
*fills in docU-sign*,
*clicks through 3 other screens*
Ok let’s see this problem statement.
“What new and magical customer experience can you create and launch to win in our markets”
... that’s not a fucking problem statement ... and why the fuck does that require filling out a docu-sign form to see?
I REALLY fucking hate legal / sales people. Wasting everyone’s time.3 -
I turned fucking 18!!! Finally it's legal for me to drink beer!!
Gotta try coding while bring drunk😱 I wonder what it would be like.

God damn it, i said so many times that this functionality is proof of concept and needs more investigation into technical/legal details...why the flugzeug mr account manager have you gone and emailed all your client accounts telling them we are now offering it?... why are you messaging me starting your sentence with "now that we provide..." god...damn...it4

Just wow. I am amazed by what just happened.
A year ago my parents decided to switch from desktop to laptop for convenience. Knowing their needs, i bought them one without an OS and installed Ubuntu 16.04 on it. The thing is that if you do a regular maintenance of the laptop once a year at their partner company, you get additional 4 years of warranty (this offer is amazing).
So today was the day I brought the laptop for this maintenance for the first time. They make you a profile on their support website where you can track shit regarding your device, super convenient. First thing I notice that the login page was not https. Awkward, but there is no sensitive data here so i let it pass. Naturally i forgot my password, so I requested a new one and guess what? I recieved it in plaintext via mail. A tech repair oriented company does this, my god.
I went there, gave them the laptop in question and got a piece of paper, where they wrote that the laptop is in their hands now, and the current physical state of the laptop, and blabla.
I got home and I read what the guy wrote among other things: THE OPERATING SYSTEM IS NOT LEGAL.
How the fuck is Ubuntu not legal??? What the fuck is this shit? I sure as hell didn't torrent it or bought a booteged copy on the streets.11 -
I'm currently 40h/week meeting attender. I'm not enjoying my life right now.
Today I have a meeting about the legal requirements of an invoicing system, in my role as database administrator — the meeting will mostly be lawyers bickering over what the addresses of subsidiaries look like on invoices and which taxes should apply to services provided across borders.
Wait, I can play Factorio during this meeting and say "yeah that sounds OK" once in a while. Not the worst job after all...10 -
I am from Germany.
And I wanna make a (new) website.
This is fucking exhausting 😩
(Do I have to translate it to english as well? The site will be bilingual).
I miss the time when I was a careless teenage who would just code and not care about bureaucracy...

Four meetings today.
Legal was not involved in legal agreement changes until I refused to make them without Legal signing off. Legal changed several things, leading to:
Project scope changed size from large to minuscule to small to medium.
Details changed at every step.
Despite being incredibly structured and process-heavy, people at this company are so disorganized. 😕rant "legal should be ok with it" "it's just a few words" another meeting another change sigh disorganization4 -
A client was talking to me all day asking about my "hacking" experience.
I taught he was going to ask for a pen test for his trampoline website. At the end of the day, he revealed he wanted me to hack the "competition's databases" so he can promote his "very unique trampoline accessory".
Guess what happened? Nothing, cause fuck legal trouble!7 -
sometimes I hate python....
Ive just chased down a bug where a simple string saved in a simple dict sometimes came out as a f*cking tuple(!) when I needed it!
turned out that at some point this dict got updated with values from some other dict. And at some other point, I decided it was a great idea to rewrite that update code into individual setter's instead ... and of course forgot to remove one the trailing comma's, thus creating a perfectly legal tuple .... *sigh*
No errors, no warnings - just plain corrupt data....

Shit just got legal
There's the lead dev, I'll call him John. John is not from the US, Europe, or any of those developed countries. The rest of management are from developed countries.
John found himself in the US for personal reasons, on a non-work visa, and his visa will expire soon. In the meantime, management found an opportunity to raise capital in the US, and they want John to be there because it'll look better in the presentation.
John: Oh but that's a month after my visa expires. You'll have to provide me a work visa.
Management was uncomfortable, because we're not registered in the US. and coz they don't wanna spend money.
The French: Don't worry, the US allows you to come in for 3 months without a visa.
The other management seemed to agree with the French. John had to explain that, no, only very few privileged countries have that right, and for the rest the US border is very, very hard to cross, and the visa process takes months. Most US embassies abroad have a year-long waitlist, though you can pay a (hefty) extra fee for it to be expedited. Fucking management was seriously surprised by this.
The Canadian: Don't worry, I own have an apartment in the East Coast. I could give you the keys and you could stay there for this month until the presentation.
So management wants John to stay in the US illegally for a month because they don't wanna pay for a work visa and the expedition fee.16 -
A dickhead boss that wrote a single fucking sql select (SELECT * FROM data WHERE 1) to display all the not normalized and redundant shit in an html 4.0 styled table. He proudly shown that shit to me saying "modify it to make a crud that will become a full management software in the 2.0". Furthermore he wants to scarpe data from websites that ecplicitly say that using that data it's not legal.4

#Gitlab is currently doing a Dry Run before actual migration on August 11.
In the linked blog-post I found this note:
NOTE to users in Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria: GitLab.com may not be accessible after the migration to Google. Google has informed us that there are legal restrictions that are imposed for those countries.11 -

Interveiwer: Do you like what you've learnt so far from your course in uni?
Me: sorry, but no the things they taught us were horrible and outdated and I only think of it as a legal requirement.

Grammarly just found and corrected an embarrassing mistake in a legal document...
My typo was "onimated"...
Googles spelling and grammar changed it to "dominated"...
Grammarly figured out it should have been "nominated".3 -
My company is asking me to create a new gmail account everyday and write a positive review with 5 stars for their iOS app on App Store. Is that even legal? Should I say no? I’m a fucking engineer, not a click-farm worker.10

So... GDPR.
And the deadline.
And I have no idea what to do.
What does it mean for one-man indie projects? Data protection officers? Companies? Controllers? Processors? EU employees? Argh.
Look, please, EU. Not everyone can afford to hire an entire team for this, when their current team is literally one person.
Yes, the GDPR is probably a step in the right direction, but I think I'll just stop collecting the data altogether.
(All data I collect is just user settings stored in a database, nothing more.)
Can someone point me in the right direction?8 -
We had a sprint where we removed some fields from the signup page, in order not to "scare users off" with the amount of information requested. Quite a few changes in frontend and backend alike.
Only now in the final day of the sprint (where we're supposed to deploy the changes) do we realize some of that information is actually required by the payment processor, and likely for very predictable *legal* reasons which I even questioned during planning.14 -
Nice, apparently Kingston isn't just selling storage anymore.. and it turns out that it's even legal as long as the 2 brands don't enter the same market and the brand name is a generic English word (not sure if Kingston is one of those though). Who knew?
Also, cheers!

Hot take: Windows 11 is just to enable them to bake Teams into the OS like they did with IE.
They gotta get sued and split up this time! Their "Facetime" is skype and they had it preinstalled. Don't compare a business messenger to a private video chat platform!
I don't use slack, but they obviously wan't to win agains them by just making it part of the OS. This can't be legal!10 -
Got pretty peeved with EU and my own bank today.
My bank was loudly advertising how "progressive" they were by having an Open API!
Well, it just so happened I got an inkling to write me a small app that would make statistics of the payments going in and out of my account, without relying on anything third-party. It should be possible, right? Right?
Wrong...
The bank's "Open API" can be used to fetch the locations of all the physical locations of the bank branches and ATMs, so, completely useless for me.
The API I was after was one apparently made obligatory (don't quote me on that) by EU called the PSD2 - Payment Services Directive 2.
It defines three independent APIs - AISP, CISP and PISP, each for a different set of actions one could perform.
I was only after AISP, or the Account Information Service Provider. It provides all the account and transactions information.
There was only one issue. I needed a client SSL certificate signed by a specific local CA to prove my identity to the API.
Okay, I could get that, it would cost like.. $15 - $50, but whatever. Cheap.
First issue - These certificates for the PSD2 are only issued to legal entities.
That was my first source of hate for politicians.
Then... As a cherry on top, I found out I'd also need a certification from the local capital bank which, you guessed it, is also only given to legal entities, while also being incredibly hard to get in and of itself, and so far, only one company in my country got it.
So here I am, reading through the documentation of something, that would completely satisfy all my needs, yet that is locked behind a stupid legal wall because politicians and laws gotta keep the technology back. And I can't help but seethe in anger towards both, the EU that made this regulation, and the fact that the bank even mentions this API anywhere.
Seriously, if 99.9% of programmers would never ever get access to that API, why bother mentioning it on your public main API page?!
It... It made me sad more than anything...6 -
I'm officially becoming legal and losing my FBI license in less than 24 hours :/
I miss being 17 and below now13 -
Follow-up on my previous rant:
My "friend" recently removed all credit to me which is breaking the license of the graphics I made for him. I have given him 7 days before I will take legal action, hope the warning scares him into either not using the graphics or adding credit back.3 -
2 days until I leave my job and I am assigned a large, legal requirement task to complete, with no time to plan or opportunity to hand over the work. No way it will be done in time, and no teamwork, so no one else will be up to speed on it when I leave, and I daresay I'll be blamed for it not working to their 2 sentence specification! Yup, that's why I'm leaving folks!1

Last year at the the Xmas party CEO slips in that he wants the app done by end of February, I freak because I thought he meant both iOS and Android (only dev working on both :/), anyways he wanted specifics for locking out specific people that haven't paid for some in-house training (like in app persons just not in the app lol) it required web development which I'm horrible at, I spend a whole week and managed to scrape together the right functions to do a user lock out, pretty all things considering.
A couple weeks before deadline I'm done :D, I've done a lot of testing, some in-house user testing, changes made all bugs visually possible are fixed.
Now I've been sitting here waiting, it's an iOS app that is currently completed aside from some legal work, which I kept going to boss "hey, we need that disclaimer and privacy policy", he becomes busy for the next few weeks, pester him more, pester another co-worker, only a week ago did they contact a lawyer...
I'm here stuck waiting at a roadblock, developing the Android app sure but for their iOS app that they want released first, I'm stuck on hold, so annoyed, it's not like I can just put on a lawyer hat and just right some shit that says don't use x unless you agree and such.
So annoying, for about 2 weeks I just played games on my phone, I was not expecting to waste that much time lol, I was really expecting the legal stuff to be ready.
Just a side note co-worker and boss that needed to get this legal stuff knew I needed to get this done, since I mentioned it leading up to my completion.
I don't think it'd take too long with Apple when it comes to the review, it's just an update but I wouldn't put my faith in that as an answer. Just hate that I'm on hold, was wanting to finish this app and apply for a new job (nothing against the company more so because I want to go a company where I could get a but of mentoring). But I sit here waiting, working on the Android app, it'd be sad if finish the Android app before their lawyers get back to me with the legal stuff, though Android is a lot easier for me (I did iOS after completing majority of the features they wanted on Android because I was more comfortable working on it).
:/ What a drag -
My company changed its policy to not let off days carry over into the next year. How the fuck is this shit legal.15

I just had to give my self a written copyright permission to publish an android app for related to my own website as it was violating googles impersonation policy without it.
And the best part about all this, is it took google 3 days to respond to my initial complaint just to find out the reason why they suspended my app and than another 2 days to resolve it all, after I provided all the "legal" documents1 -

At work we have a lawyer lady who we pay a LOT of money and she suppose to handle our tech related legal stuff. We ask her to look at some stuff we shared with her via shared google docs. Talk about data protection, I am fucking furious!! A hotel i stayed in recently has sent an email with a scan of my passport and credit card. Do I have any legal rights to fuck them up the arse? The hotel is in france.1

Why the fuck did you guys change my vps to read only file system.
WHAT IS FUCKING WRONG WITH YOU, THIS IS LIKE THE 6TH TIME.
What do you expect to tell my clients?
I should look into if I have legal rights to migrate everything to a more stable provider.
Sick and tired of having issues because other people fck up. It's a shame I have been using this provider for 5 years without any problems. And now servers left and right start having problems.22 -
Okay.. Serious question.
I have a game. And a license that i have to provide a name for.
..I'm transgender, and have get to get a legal name change...
Do I /have/ to claim it under my birth name? (I don't own a company, so i assume the answer is yes.)24 -
Wtf! I have to listen to a commercial from the phone company before going to the call. I'm in Peru.
Is there a way to skip this? I'm not even sure why this is f*cking legal.6 -
Worst hack/attack?
Probably developing a complex food ordering website and client just stole the website and didn’t pay as it turns out our PM didn’t let the client sign a contract. Can’t sue as we have no legal binding documents.
We did managed to get access to the database and decided to change our passwords manually, but like I don’t get paid much for this2 -
Just learned my company says it owns everything I think or build, whether I am on the clock or not. It was in the handbook, not the paperwork I signed, but it says I agree to it if I keep working for them. It even says I cannot show interest in something without their approval. FUCK!13

Spend the last year helping to rescue a company from the brink of collapse. Literally live and breathe the company for no extra pay or reward, supporting and improving all aspects from IT and development, HR, Legal, Procurement, business day to day running and Accounts.
Create a business plan and forecast for 2019 with the General Manager over the weekend (unpaid) to grow the business and start to make lots of profit, hand it over to the director and he makes me redundant the next day.
Furious doesn't even cover what I'm feeling at the moment.3 -
This is a joke. This isn't even wifi in my room 4 rooms across from the router. This is LAN. 1und1 at their finest. (No bad weather, no sister uploading photos or brother downloading.. you know)

Caffeine meets every criteria for being a drug:
- Alters mental state
- Addictive
- Has withdrawal symptoms
- Tolerance increases with time
If you rely on caffeine to function, statistically, you spend the majority of your waking life in caffeine crush, longing for more and more caffeine to just function normally.
Face it: you’re a drug addict. Caffeine being legal doesn’t mean it’s not a drug.
I don’t do caffeine at all. I don’t drink sodas that have caffeine, I don’t drink tea either. That’s why I’m always full of energy. Yes, caffeine withdrawal gave me a week of terrible headaches, but I pushed through, and now my life is completely transformed.24 -
As a legal thing at work I need to have someone verify my citizenship by filling out a form for my I-9. They ask the person for their title. My husband can’t be serious, so he put that his title is “Keeper of the Swans”.
Here’s hoping I don’t have an awkward convo with legal over the validity of verification by a man claiming the title “Keeper of the Swans”
In his _defense_, the form didn’t let him leave “Title” blank.9 -

In short, it's about Apple's weird legal practices when it comes to Apple Developer accounts.
tl;dr
- Apple has "obvious" security reasons that requires a copy of a photo id, and you aren't allowed to conceal sensitive information
- Apple's favorite form of communication is fax and snail mail
- Apple needs multiple signatures and court documents to just change your account name. -

I need to know WHY THE FUCK one decides that the Esc button should TERMINATE APPLICATION WITHOUT ANY FUCKING WARNING...

Last rant was about games and graphics cards (admittedly not received too well), time for a rant about game development houses.. especially you EA.
So yesterday a friend of mine showed me in one of our Telegram chats that he'd modified some cheats in an old FPS game by editing these scripts (not Lua for some reason) that the game used as a.. configuration language I guess? He called the result a tank cemetery 🙃
Honestly the game looked a lot like Medal of Honor to stoned me at the time, so I figured, well why not fire up that old nx7010 I had laying around for so long, get a new Debian installation on that and rip the Medal of Honor: Allied Assault war chest that I still had, and play it on one of my more modern laptops? Those CD's are now very old anyway, maybe time to archive those before they rot away.
So I installed Debian on it again, looked up how to rip CD's from the command line, and it seemed that dd could do it - just give /dev/cdrom as the input file, and wherever you want to store your copy as the output file. Brilliant! Except.. uh, yeah. It wasn't that easy. So after checking the CD and finding that it was still pristine, and seeing another CD in that war chest fail just the same, I tried burning and then ripping a copy of Debian onto another CD.. checksummed them and yes, it ripped just fine, bit for bit equal. So what the fuck EA, why is your game such a special snowflake that it's apparently too difficult to even spin up the drive to be copied?
So I looked around on plebbit and found this: https://reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/... - the top comment of that post shattered all my hopes for this disc to be possible to rip. Turns out that DRM schemes intentionally screw up the protocols that make up a functioning disc, and detecting those fuck-ups is part of the actual DRM.
"I also remember some forms of DRM will even include disc mastering errors/physical corruption on the actual disc and use those as a sort of fingerprint for the DRM. The copied ISO has to include them at the exact same place in the ISO as on the IRL disc and the ISO emulator has to emulate the disc drive read errors they cause."
So yeah. Never mind that I already own this goddamn game, and that it's allowed by law to make one copy for personal use, AND that intentionally breaking something is very shady indeed.. apparently I don't really own this game after all. So I went onto the almighty search engines, and instantly found a copy of this game for download. You know EA.. I wanted to play nice. You didn't let me. Still wondering why people do piracy now? Might take your top suits that suggested these fucked up DRM schemes another decade to figure out maybe.. even given the obvious now.
But hey I wouldn't even care that much if the medium these games are stored on wouldn't be so volatile (remember these discs are now close to 20 years old, and data rot sets in after 30 years or so). You company decided to publish these on CD. We've had cartridges in many forms before, those are pretty much indestructible and inherently near impossible to duplicate. And why would you want to? But CD is what you chose because you company were too cheap to go to China, get someone to make some plastic molds and put your board and a memory chip in that. Oh and don't even get me started on the working conditions for game devs.. EA and co, aren't you ashamed of yourselves? No wonder that people hate game development houses so much.
Yay, almost finished downloading that copy of Medal of Honor! Whatever you say EA.. I've done everything I could to do it legally. You are the ones who fucked it up.4 -
Busy trying to rewrite company website, I'm a desktop developer. I'm ashamed to say I used the following

So I've identified a key demographic that's excluded from social networks, by their very definition.
Misanthropes.
Misanthropic individuals need their own little area of the internet too.
I propose "MySpaceNowFuckOff.com" although this would probably result in a protracted legal battle. I'm open to name changes.
It would be a site for socialising with others like you, who don't actually want to socialize, where you don't get "likes" you get "disinterested acknowledgement", there isn't a share button but a "shame this idiot" button. And you don't have friends but a list of "people who haven't pissed me off... yet". -

Working with LEGAL is the worst!
They say yes to all reviews and once it's in prod they want to completely change the whole thing cause they think every user reads the Terms & Condition!

Legal Question regarding E-Commerce / Credit Card Payments.
The User sends his Credit Card Information (number/expiration Date/Safety Number) over email to vendor. Vendor types this info from the email into a Credit Card Terminal.
Is this even legal? I thought when listing Credit Card Payment you have to use a PSP (Payment Service Provider) that conforms to the security regulations etc.7 -

Remember how I gushed about one note?
Well I purchased a new laptop today.
Load it up, log in to fucking windows 10.
What do I find in one note?
All my notes from my previous PC.
What did I explicitly fucking disable on my other PC?
Sharing and syncing.
What has obviously been shared and synced anyway, completely ignoring my settings?
My fucking notes in onenote, including some very personal notes on my health and life.
Can anyone else confirm they had the same problem?
I'm interested in pursuing legal action for this bullshit.11 -
Word is spreading that CNN, which is owned by Time Warner, got a reddit users IP from their mods, and with their relation to Time Warner, got his identity.
Then extorted him to apologize or be revealed.
This is huge, and we don't even know its the only time it has happened.
VPNs may not even truly protect you if the ISP can connect the dots over time, with time stamps.
Holy shit, CNN just weaponized ipv4

My latest project is going quite well, I think some of guys might like it! Basically it is a entirely new Fallout game with multiplayer aspects made in Unreal. Now most of you are saying "dude make textures is going to take years!" However I can extract models and textures from Fallout itself, saving time. The next question will be the legal stuff however Zenimax gave me permission as long as I don't restrict access, money or otherwise. If you want to check it out or think you can help go to the sub Reddit and click the discord link!

[Seeking Advice / Legal / Opinion]
Hello world, (TLDR at the bottom)
I'm the co-founder of a small startup and looking for advice from people of legal background or similar situations. (Any help making the reddit post more active will also help a lot: https://reddit.com/r/legaladvice/...)
Just as a backstory for better understanding:
a couple of years ago, me (early twenties, male) and another guy (late thirties, male) started an entrepreneurial journey, got in an accelerator program and some investment, and things always looked well.
We opened the company and started working / selling our services. Step by step we started recruiting, and getting some clients, and business is going well... ("well" as in, small revenues but not spending more than we earn).
The thing is that me and my co-founder's relationship has been degrading over time and I think it would be better for us and the company to split up and go our own way. He has the majority of the shares and I don't mind leaving it all behind for the sake of the company and mental health.
This is in US, if it helps, and we both have At-Will employment contracts.
My main question is, *if I do sign a termination contract*, from what I read, I'm obliged to remain reachable for a period of 12 months (plus all those IP related stuff, not sharing confidential info, etc).
[1] Is there anything I should be careful about and get some kind of protection or get some more information before resigning?
I'm afraid that if I leave the company it affects the business negatively, as we both work 16 / 20 hour shifts many times and my work would not be easily replaced by anyone in the current team. We are hiring more people right now, and some seniors, and I was thinking on staying one month dedicated only to training them... [2] Could this be specified in some contract that I am resigning from "today", but stay 30 days focusing on training new people, or anything similar?
I don't mind staying in touch and help whenever they could need, but I will not be available 24/7 and I will obviously need a job to pay living expenses, so I don't want to affect negatively my time in other jobs or personal life and be kind of protected against anything that he could do to make me stay continuously connected or compromised.
I'm interested in knowing any opinions and advice you guys may have, and feel free to ask some questions if you need extra details.
I just want the best for the startup but cannot hold much time in the current environment.
TLDR: Relationship between me and co-founder is getting worse, thinking on resignating but want to keep some sort of protection against anything that could make me keep compromised to the company.7 -

Can we patent an Idea? I have my product A ready for launch. Company B claims that we have patent for that idea. We both trying to solve exact same problem using exact same methodology. How should I proceed? Any legal advisors here?5

Imagine an online, public service, that allows you to communicate with others (for example a simple chat, game, whatever ).
The users connect to each others via p2p. Based on this, you can easily get the ip address of any user directly connected to you. P2p is used to reduce server load, but information is still verified (for example using RACS), so let's assume the data is always safe.
(please remember, this is just a imagined Szenario)
Now the question: AFAIK, the IP address is a sensitive information. Would p2p in this scenario still be 'legal' in the EU given the latest changes in the laws?7 -
Like I know most like to hate on recruiters, and I guess that’s cause may, maybe even most, are just a pain and don’t really understand development nearly well enough to actually target relevant candidates.
I’ve dealt with a few over the years when looking, this is the first time however one has sent a contract that includes a 3 month default clause.
Not sure about other countries but in mine there is a legal 3 month probation period, which really is there in part to allow either party the ability to terminate the agreement at basically a moments notice.
Maybe I don’t like the company or how they work, maybe I lied my arse off during the interview and copied an assessment off the web, or hek they just don’t like me…
It’s a legal period in which pretty much and any reason is a valid reason.
Yet for this recruiter, no matter the reason, if the employment ends during those 3 month, I would then be liable to pay her 10% of my annual gross.
Like NAF…3 -
People, finally back with a rant😌
You definitely have heard about the new privacy policies in the EU. What do you guys think about this BS?

Once I had to integrate an analytics mechanism into a product my company was selling. Due to EU laws we had to put an opt-out checkbox into the installer. Took me a while to hack my way around various technical and legal impediments, but I got it done.
Long story short, product rolled out and we got data from about 0.1% our customers. Almost everybody opted out :/7 -
Being a woman is terrifying. You walk down the street and realize that EVERY single man is strong enough to physically overpower you, should he want to do to you the thing you don't want. Even given that this heinous act has legal repercussions in some countries, what's done is done, and you'll have to live with the trauma forever.12

Rant/Question
So I had this friend who has his own company, hosting is part of their business. He gave me a VM to host some websites, test stuff and whatnot. Free. I have quite some important stuff on there (personal, and a few demo sites for clients). No backups of my own, because they do nightly tape backups, and RAID accross physically seperated datacenters. Today, he just shut down my VM - for personal reasons (really personal, nothing to do with his company whatsoever, he hates me lately for something I can't influence). He doesn't say weather or when Ill get the data, and gave me no time to pull it. Can/should I go to the police? I just want my data back, but I don't know if I can do anything as it was free (no contract).
Switzerland, btw.5 -

HOW THE FUCK IS THIS LEGAL?! This isn't even their fucking research! So much of this was either done decades before they existed, or done by others. At first, I didn't understand computers or internet or why is that dial up modem making noise. And then one day, I was playing with my dad's PC with games he bought and interactive CD quizzes for my studies. Something about teaching me about a Bill named Bill who sat on the steps to some court house singing how a bill becomes legal or something.
Then a few months after that I discovered internet and then a friend of mine introduced torrents, neopets and anime. Heck yeah!2 -
In recent time my anger comes from a junior dev who keeps saying he's got no time to test and breaks working code leading to others getting the blame and the team leader not addressing the problem.
In the past it was micro managing managers who thought they knew how to make a UI best, and also that one project where they gave a client carte blanche on changes to avoid legal trouble. Nothing more infuriating than multiple people telling you how to change things over and over while you're being passed around in their power struggle.1 -

I just realized that charities being scammy and pocketing most of the money for themselves isn't actually a shocking thing
If you're a scammer, convincing people to give you their money by parading people in need around is like the easiest thing ever
Of course all charities are scams, that's literally the easiest and most legal way to scam people!2 -

We have been strongly adviced to be working from home until further notice. Schools are closed, so if employees have have who are now to stay at home rather than at school AND if WFH is going to be too much of a trouble, these employees can either take vacation days OR get a med cert from a doctor and stay at home w/o having to work (yes, considering the situation our govmt allows legal slacking for parents).
Normally I'd be excited to be told to WFH. But nowdays it just feels so.. normal... everyone's got that privilege. -

Conspiracy theory:
AI is peddled around companies because it's a great front for them to take all of your data and "train their models", ultimately its all about legally owning what you create and use it for self-promotion with minimal extra cost.
There isn't actually any "AI models" in the back of the company tech stack. It's just a word on a legal document as an excuse to take your data.1 -
uPlay is ramming me down the throat harder than what should be legal, I can barely breathe.

I wish gamedevs put more focus on the cheating problem in multiplayer games.

Some stats on what I've been doing all 2020:
222 working days.
60% of the days, working on dev stuff.
80% of the days, working on 2nd responsibility (legal documentation for clients).
From April, 60% of the 222 days working on the 3rd responsibility I got assigned in, you guessed it, April (KPI making).
So basically 70% of my job is no longer what I signed up for.
That's what I want to change this year. -
Joined a new company as front end developer after working for a legal tech for 3 years. The codebase is shit here. There is this ReactJS developer who has done everything except for following standard code practices. No modularity, no reusable components. Some files go beyond 2000 lines of codes. It is a literal nightmare.
The worst part is, he does not understand that he has written the worst code. I dunno how to handle this now.8 -
The way I understand software licenses.
Cool bro MIT: Free to do whatever you want as long as you include a copy of the license and you can't hold the original accountable.
fair dude Apache 2.0: Like the MIT license but more bureaucratic and few more minor things you need to keep track of.
scumbag GPL: free as in the same way that prison food is free. used by java in gotcha cases as a source of revenue because no one understands java licensing. Often used in the form of a deterrent so you never dare to open up the github page.
scumbag GPL who, realising they have no friends, becomes slightly less of a dick LGPL: But please stop using this and use our more restrictive "freedom" license.
I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice.13 -

If you're self-employed, have your legal shit together even if you trust a client.
Your legal work is not for expected cases when everything is rainbows and unicorns, it's for the times when SHTF. It provides you and your prospective clients with clarity on what to mutually expect.
There will be scope creep, there will be late payments,... You can be lenient, but cover your legal bases so that you don't have to be. -
When asked if i will code for stock options or profit shares, i might remind the prospect that in most countries, i would own the entire codebase if working for no pay. Most work for hire agreements put ownership of the system and code into the paying clients name, as i understand it. so if youre not collecting pay, you would own (possibly the only copy of) the code. If that doesnt scare the client away, maybe i should remind them id be legally allowed to sell the code to their competitors. Then do so if i see a bettrr paying client (i.e. any paying client) If anyone knows if im making legal sense id appreciate it.

Couple months ago I mentioned that the product group needed to involve engineering when making promises to the business. Otherwise they were going to write checks our asses can't cash.
Welp, now the situation has happened and I pointed out that a lot of things have been promised for delivery that we haven't planned for or even seen in engineering. And things that I have been harping on haven't even been accounted for and, unlike business promises, these are legal requirements. Now I'm the asshole because I pointed this shit out in front of the whole team.1 -
Could be a stupid question, but I'm asking anyway. If I have a Java application, it's legal for me to package dependencies in it's jar, right? (In this case GSON)5

I'm so sick and tired of the human dick head parade. Epic has us register for a fucking GitHub organization and people found a way to abuse the pull request and sending 300,000 close to 400,000 people notifications so now we're dealing with spam that's going out with random shit including someone ripping their ass hole open (picture...). Over 200 emails I swear to god. This is why castration should be legal.
Unsubscribed from one, someone creates a new useless PR.4 -
So I'm getting a new job in a legal software company and I wanted to ask your opinion on computers. I know many are very biased towards OSX and windows and prefer linux but I'm trying my luck lmao.
I'm currently on a late 2012 macbook pro and its starting to fizzle out on me.
Not a bit fan of the new macbooks because of dongles and no direct HDMI. I was wondering if the surface laptop 2 was any good compared? All the reviews online are basically paid to praise it and the reviews on reddit are polarized. I prefer laptops that are thin and in aluminum.12 -
please i need your advice :)
I need to reform a service that offers legal advice and thus serves around 5000 Microsoft Word legal advice documents for the end user and every year there are 200 more documents created and published and changed manually.
So i had this idea to use a CMS, Git and continuous integration for
- automatic spell checking
- automatic assigning the copy text to translation bureaus, and get translations back.
- version control the texts and translations.
- document generation in multiple formats
- checking the text flow in the document (no overflown text)
- Checking for accessibility for the handy caped
- Deploying it on the Website
Do you think this is feasible? Can something that was made for code also be used to handle copy text documents? In my head this would save so much work but i'm no expert in CI/CD.
Thank you for your advice!8 -
I'm a second year CS student from Spain, and I'm getting my first remote internship for 3 months with an US bussiness. It looks great and the project does as well. My mentor's experience is quite impressive. Anyway, I'm a bit concerned as long as it's a new bussiness and I don't know about the requirements to do this legally overseas/remote, and he hasn't been really clear about that (we're meeting tomorrow by Skype). I just want to be sure it's not a scam. Any advice? It will be apreciated so much.2

I started a new job a few days ago. I'm already adapting to the team's workflow and codebase. A new offer came up, same salary, but the company is near my place and have many green field projects. It wouldn't be any legal repercussions if I quit, but I would feel guilty for resigning just a few days after starting, the employer would have to start the hiring process all over again and some bridges will be burnt. Damn! I really don't know what to do: being unethical and take what is best for me, or being ethical and stay where I already am /:6

I'm based in Germany and I'm negotiating a job with an American company. Does anyone have experience with the best legal setup for this? Direct employment, setting up my own company and employing myself or freiberufler?5

Ok so there is this company we work for as a client. They stalled the project for 3 months not wanting to sign the contract in the summer for reasons unknown while we "waited" to start.
In the contract it was noted that the project will take 6 months FROM THE time they sign the contract.
They signed it in September and still want to go live this year. They don't care what is in the contract but they have legal deadlines they must comply and for that they need the project.
I mean WAT? How disfunctional you must be to stall a project you have legal compliance for?2 -
Dumbest project for me was separating a company into four different companies (four different phone systems) because they were under legal fire.
They wanted it separated but still function the same. There is still the possibility that the companies will merge back together.

But I'm not going to. I'm not stupid. It's not worth starting a fight or potentially losing a job over. So I remain silent, like a coward.

I'd had some weirder experiences with Rust where errors would surface late or in odd places so now I can't tell whether this is actually legal or the error is being discarded because it's in dead code.

I wonder one day whether we will br able to take snapshots of the internet given the amount of bandwith vs the storage at out disposal... reason from my side will be to see the difference correlated over time especially with regards to the "legal crap". Also having the ability to see other people's "copy" overlayed with yours to see the actual organic nature of information.2

A bit of an off-topic, but people need to shut up about copyright.
I see people making cool fun stuff all the time, and they start talking about a liscence to use it and copyrights and stuff. Wtf!? I get it if you're making a big commercial project, but no one's gonna steal your cookie clicker clone nor your minecraft mod.
I get it that people want their work to be protected, but ffs it reay annoys me when people bring up legal stuff when mentioning a project that was clearly just made for fun.6 -
I hate BT.
Today, it started redirecting me to a page saying, basically, to activate their DNS server on the router for "BT Protect" and "Parental Controls" to work, despite the fact that my parents never turned it on. Their support lines appear to be staffed with Indians taught to answer very basic questions, and forwarded me to "tech experts" from BT, a service that apparently costs £8 a month, because "the issue is out of their scope".
How is this even legal?1 -

Hey guys, I have almost developed the backend of an app like reddit. My question is about authentication. How should I authenticate my user. Is phone number necessary to add phone otp?Because I don't want to get any legal trouble if someone posts objectionable content on the platform. Most of the apps today need phone number, I dont know why except reducing spam accounts.
Or shall I verify email by otp. But its hard to track disposable emails. I cant go for only gmail too as its banned in china. Email domains of china are weird.
Can I get into legal trouble for objectionable content posted by any evil user?
I dont want to go for auth.10 -
Today suddenly our HR had mailed to all the employees that after 6 days all employees' post resignation notice period will be changed

After several brutal company failures to build yet another "Groupon Clone" internally back when Groupon was cool, it was pitched as an idea to bolt a clone onto the successful site.

Can a proprietary software link to a GPL-licensed dependency during runtime?
Can it do if its GPL "with Classpath Exception"? What about CDDL?

Crafting Clarity: How Writing Services Improve Nursing Documentation
Effective communication is a cornerstone of quality healthcare, and nowhere is this more critical than in nursing documentation. Accurate, clear, and comprehensive documentation ensures continuity of care, supports clinical decision-making, and meets legal and regulatory requirements. However, the demands on nurses’ time and the complexity of medical information can make high-quality documentation challenging. Professional writing services offer valuable support in this area, helping nurses produce precise and reliable documentation that enhances patient care and operational efficiency.
The Importance of High-Quality Nursing Documentation
Accurate documentation provides a complete and ongoing record of a patient’s condition, treatments, and responses. This information is crucial for ensuring that all healthcare providers involved in a patient's care have the necessary details to make informed decisions. Detailed and precise documentation is a legal requirement and can be pivotal in legal cases. Proper documentation can protect nurses and healthcare institutions from liability and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
The Role of Professional Writing Services
Professional writing services employ experts in medical writing who understand the nuances of healthcare documentation. nurse writing services ensure that records are clear, concise, and accurate, reducing the risk of misinterpretation. For instance, they can help nurses use precise medical terminology and avoid ambiguous language, ensuring that the documentation is easily understood by all healthcare providers.
Addressing Concerns and Ensuring Ethical Use
While the benefits of professional writing services are clear, some concerns must be addressed:
Confidentiality: Ensuring patient confidentiality is paramount. Reputable writing services adhere to strict privacy policies and use secure methods for handling patient information. It's essential for healthcare providers to choose writing services that prioritize confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and other relevant regulations.
Academic Integrity: For nursing students, using professional writing services ethically is important. cheap nursing writing services should be used to support learning and skill development, not to complete assignments on behalf of students. By using writing services responsibly, students can enhance their writing skills and academic performance while maintaining integrity. -

For years, I've been putting myself back whenever I got an idea to do something, because "what would people think?"
But, you know, there's only one life (unless you believe in reincarnation, that's fine), and I'll do whatever the fuck i want (that's legal and doesn't breaks moral/ethics, to each their own)
So...I just got an idea, decided to put it down and publish it.
It sucks? Maybe, but I don't care, it's done and out, I'd rather want to live being seen as a fool than die hiding myself.

A lawyer-client relationship is generally formed out of respect and empathy when the lawyer agrees to provide legal assistance or services to a needy client. In my case, I happened to meet a greedy wolf in disguise as a family lawyer. That lawyer, Jennifer L. Lavin, was a very clever swindler because she cunningly portrayed her first impression to me as that of a charming professional lawyer. In reality, her true face and selfish greed were so awful that I was yet to discover them. At that time, I was in one of the worst times of my family and financial crisis due to my nasty divorce taking place.

How to Recover Money from a Binary Options Scam: A Guide with Century Web Recovery
Falling victim to a binary options scam can be a devastating experience, leaving you feeling helpless and financially ruined. Fortunately, there is hope. Century Web Recovery specializes in helping individuals recover funds lost to such scams. Here’s how they can assist you in reclaiming your money.
Understanding Binary Options Scams
Binary options scams lure investors with promises of high returns and minimal risk. Victims are often contacted by seemingly professional brokers who convince them to invest significant sums of money. Once the investment is made, the scammers block access to accounts, making it impossible to withdraw funds or contact the company.
Steps to Recover Your Funds
1. Initial Consultation
Century Web Recovery begins with a no-obligation consultation. They gather information about the incident, including the nature of the scam, the amount lost, and the details of the transactions. This helps them understand the specific circumstances of your case.
2. Preliminary Assessment
They conduct a preliminary assessment to determine the feasibility of recovering your funds. This involves evaluating the available information and considering the jurisdictions involved. While full recovery is rare, their goal is to recover as much as possible.
3. Engagement Agreement
If they believe recovery is possible, Century Web Recovery will proceed with an engagement agreement. This outlines the scope of services, fee structures, and any necessary legal disclaimers. A retainer fee may be required, which is a small percentage of the estimated recovery fees.
4. Detailed Investigation and Blockchain Analysis
The core of their recovery efforts lies in detailed investigation and blockchain analysis. Century Web Recovery uses advanced tools to trace transactions and identify the wallets where stolen funds have been moved. They monitor these wallets to track any movements of the funds.
5. Legal Process: Freezing and Recovery of Assets
If the stolen funds are identified in a compliant exchange, Century Web Recovery collaborates with legal counsel to file legal injunctions to freeze the assets. They navigate the complex legal landscape, working to substantiate the ownership of the stolen funds and recover them through court proceedings.
6. Return of Funds
Once the legal process is successfully completed, the recovered funds are returned to the rightful owner. Century Web Recovery assists in setting up secure crypto custody solutions to ensure the recovered assets are safely stored.
Why Choose Century Web Recovery?
Century Web Recovery operates within legal and ethical boundaries, ensuring that all recovery efforts comply with international regulations. They use legitimate methods and do not promise unrealistic outcomes, maintaining transparency throughout the process.

Individuals should exercise extreme caution in the investment landscape, as numerous fraudulent investment companies and deceptive recovery firms operate globally. The difficulty in withdrawing funds from trading accounts, or the experience of complete financial loss, is unfortunately a common occurrence. These situations often involve sophisticated schemes designed to exploit unsuspecting investors. For example, Ponzi schemes promise exceptionally high returns with minimal risk, attracting investors who subsequently lose their principal investments when the scheme collapses. Another common tactic involves fraudulent brokers who manipulate trading platforms or provide false information to induce losses. Furthermore, many victims fall prey to scam recovery firms that promise to retrieve stolen funds but instead demand upfront fees without delivering on their promises. These firms often operate anonymously and lack any legitimate regulatory oversight. MARS TECH RECOVERY GURUs offers guidance and assistance to individuals who have experienced such financial losses. Our services encompass a comprehensive assessment of the situation, identification of the perpetrators, and the pursuit of legal avenues for fund recovery. This process may involve collaborating with law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, and legal professionals to build a robust case for restitution. It is crucial to remember that recovering stolen funds requires patience, diligence, and a thorough understanding of the legal processes involved. While MARS TECH RECOVERY GURUs strives to provide effective solutions, the success of any recovery effort is dependent on various factors, including the nature of the fraud, the availability of evidence, and the cooperation of relevant authorities. Therefore, prospective clients should approach the process with realistic expectations and a commitment to full transparency and cooperation.
