Researching to making a small 2D game using constructor classes and while building out classes, was working on my Tree method using fractal geometry and made a wallpaper out of the tree 🌳12

Update on this: https://devrant.com/rants/1641198/...
I was a little tired but made updated and currently getting a more natural looking tree.26 -
My try at the fractal tree :) This sort of simple graphical code is very quickly satisfying, gonna try to add some wind next21

i tried implementing the mandelbrot set without tutorial.
ended up with this.
is this fractal known? if not, i guess i invented a fractal12 -
SELECT * FROM VISA_CARDS
...yes, every bit as bad as you imagine
(and yes, there were other tables for other card providers. Insult to injury... in like.. a fractal of mistakes)4 -
I have a Kali Linux VM running on my Windows machine. I decide to try and exploit the Windows machine (THAT THE VM WAS RUNNING ON) because of a vulnerability with smb that requires NO user interaction. I decided to make my computer shoot its own legs and I thought "Hey, this is gonna be fine."
Aaaaand the whole system crashed on me.3 -
My mother is a manipulative bitch.
From my childhood, I remember nothing but fear and guilt. When I was 13, she shamed me for my body looking ugly and too feminine. She shamed me for having better vision than her, and that I don’t need to wear glasses.
I had a broken toe once, and she shamed me into admitting it wasn’t in fact broken. After two weeks of pain, she finally got me to the doctor, and x-ray had shown it was in fact broken.
She always made me carry her heavy luggage with her crap to the airport, and once I got hernia. The surgery was needed. After the surgery, they didn’t care, didn’t give me the time to recover, and made me carry her crap again. The second surgery was needed. It was more complex than the first one. Now my body is ruined by those disgusting scars. I hate my body now. It is ruined.
She tried to knock down the door into my room when I was crying and didn’t want to talk.
She screamed at me when I wanted to donate some of my old clothes to charity, the ones I bought with my own money. She is so obsessed with her crap. She hoards it, and she was hoarding it into _my_ room, not hers.
My father is still unknown. She abandoned me as a kid for my grandparents to grow me. I barely saw her till the age of six. Then I grew up with her and my stepdad, and their relationship was all manipulation and guilt. She made him apologize and beg almost every day over the course of thirteen years. They were fighting about their miserable sexual life, lack of her orgasms while I was still a kid. She just didn’t care. Once they decided to talk about their pissing kink right next to me when I was (not in fact) asleep.
When I was raped, she did nothing. She just kept on calling me beautiful and insisting she wanted me to wear mascara, while hating gay people. It was all before I realized my gender identity.
She also didn’t notice I was autistic. She liked it, as it gave her advantage. It’s easy to manipulate an autistic teenager.
After my coming-out, she told me she had cancer, and she wanted to stop treatment in order to “die sooner and not see me”.
But once my bipolar disorder awakened, things changed. Bipolar is my shield. I can be manipulated, yes, but bipolar will obliterate my whole world view once a year, together with your manipulative crap you planted into my life. And because it dismantled a 19-year-long, almost fractal manipulative masterpiece, I fear nothing now.
I disowned her some two years ago.21 -
Brilliant idea time:
Inspired by @TrojanMorse and his fractal trees
A fractal tree wallpaper that grows throughout the day.
So at 12 a script starts a new fractal and only uses depth 1 (a twig). Then every other hour it branches once more so at 2 am the fractal would have depth 2 and at noon it would have depth 7. That way you get a tree growing throughout the day for your screensaver. Now to make this a thing13 -
Acquaintance of mine brags that he made a "Facebook password cracker" that took less than 30 lines of code.
I take a look at it, then I realize it's brute force password cracking.
Oh dear.
Facebook doesn't even let you do that many password attempts, not to mention that brute forcing passwords is going to take more time than the expected lifetime of the sun. (exaggeration? Maybe. But you get my point.)
Why are we still here? Just to suffer?6 -
I never thought to I'd say this about an open-source project, but if I wanted to single out an unbeatable case of "Bad Design", and the manifestation of the term "Redundancy Hell", It is definitely Calibre.
Single job: To keep some e-book files + some metadata.
What it does in brief: In a single dir as your library; From metadata stored IN each file; It generates subdirs <author_name>/<title_name>(<some_numerical_id>), copies the e-book file there, generates a jpg cover from the first page and also stores it there, generates an xml file to support legacy e-book formats (but it generates it anyway even for pdfs), which contains all the same metadata for the file, including title, author and href for the cover, and also stores it there. And then, all the same metadata for all books is stored in a metadata.db in the library root folder. I don't know if there is more data stored/used somewhere in a more obfuscated way.
Not too much to ask: Change some author/title/any single field.
What is done: 💩🌋
It is so helpful, it does all the stuff by itself or its plugins; you don't have to touch anything. But it also has this amazing ability to fuck everything up without even being touched. I mean WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING? WHAT KIND OF A FUCKING DESIGN IS THIS? A FUCKING FRACTAL?
Literally, If I had listed all my books on physical papers with a real life pen, It would take me less time that I've already wasted on unfucking the regular disasters. Fuck you and your arrogant responses to issues. -
Some kid keeps asking me how to session hijack. I keep telling him there's no point if:
A. You're not on the same network as him / her (I'm sure there are exceptions to this but normally you'd have to be on the same network)
B. The connection is encrypted
He doesn't understand either of those things. Not to mention it's illegal unless you're given consent.7 -
There is this dude called Richard Eng which is sort of famous for 2 things:
First: he is known as *the* Smalltall evangelist of mothern times. And he constantly writes about it. Which is fine since he tries to attract new users to this beautiful and simple little language.
Second: his constant bashing of other technologies, mainly Javascript stating that it is the most harmful tech known to man.
The thing is, saying "use this because that is shit" is never going to convince a community, specifically one as potent as that of the JS community. And to make it worse...the dude links his reasoning about bad languages to articles he wrote. As in "this is shit, look at my completely biased article regarding why its shit"
Once he is confronted about it he links back to his own writings. Much like christian fanatics do
"good is real because it says so in the bible"
"but how can you trust that resource?"
"Because the bible is the word of God"
"and how do you know?"
"Because it is in the bible"
Circular arguments like that cannot be taken seriously. And what this guy does for the Smalltalk community hurts more than it helps really.
Claims like those are all around us. If we were to believe or consider them depending on who said what then we would never have the amazing cluster of tech choices that we have.
Take c++. It is absolutely powerful and gives you the ability to do pretty much anything. If we were to take Linus Torvalds's word about it being shit and only having subpar development we would miss on absolutely powerful tools.
The same came to me from Evee, writer of "PHP a fractal of bad design" or the "Node.js is cancer" article.
You are never going to please anyone with anything. I go by live and let live, and whilst I don't like some technologies I certainly don't look down on those that do.4 -
Ok apparently I forgot rants can only be edited within the first 5 minutes, I thought it was 30, and you can't rant 2 times in 2 hours so I'll have to wait before posting this.
So, I'm doing a Genetic Algorithms class, something I liked since I was 15 yo and didn't know shit about coding, but I loved the carykh videos about it. (here is part 1: https://youtu.be/GOFws_hhZs8 )
The yearly class consisted of 3 little projects to be able to do the final exam and an investigation project to pass the subject without a final exam.
We had to make teams, and I got together with 5 more people.
I have a lot to say about these 5 people, but the only thing I'll say is that I was the most experienced programmer among the 6 of us, if they had any experience at all. Mind this is a third cycle class.
We were allowed to use any technology, as long as we wrote the important algorithms by hand, of course.
The development of the first project was such a mess, that one of the members left the subject.
While developing the second one, we were given the topic for the investigation project; fractals.
It took a lot for us to find an application of fractals where we could use genetic algorithms. Once we found it, fractal antennas, we had to learn about antennas, so we interviewed professionals, and such. We ended up learning to evaluate antennas.
We also found a site that used some parameters to generate fractals, we had the parameterization.
We just had to code it. It was July and we just had to code it by October.
We were 5 people, and "we" were so busy writing the little projects, we fucking couldn't finish the investigation project.
We just had to write the proper algorithms and GUI specifics, without even having to write boilerplate (we used the first project as a template), and they still took so much that we didn't have time for the important project.
That sucked, because I had been coding and investigating in many weekends, I spent countless hours on them, I had to pause development on other projects for these ones; and after all that we have to do the (very shitty) final exam.
Since May, the average people together "working" on the different projects was 2.6. And 100% of the time, I was one of them.
We tried to speed up things in the last months but even with the deadline on us and the project not even started, there was no time we all got to work together.
Dude projects don't just get made, someone has to develop them.
It's so sad we had the project ready to be made and 5 people couldn't finish it. There was so little to do to pass and yet these people couldn't.
I guess it's my bad too. I wish I could rush the project in a couple of weeks, but unfortunately the guy with a job and 8 other subjects can't.
You can find the project in my GitHub. I'll do a requiem of what it was to be one of these days, after I catch up with all I left aside for this subject...rant genetic algorithms project systems engineering failure subject college investigation fractals wk2833 -

The tree has started!
The lovely pycairo package was super easy to pick up, and I made a rather shitty looking fractal tree with it!
Next step is to figure out a color scheme I like, and to make the tree look more natural/better.
It's happening guys3 -
School just started. New computer teacher seems like a bitch, hopefully her skills justify her attitude.5

Look at this amazing chaos game fractal.
Three vertices of an equilateral triangle and a random point p between any two vertices are taken, then we generate a random integer between 1 and 6 (just like throwing a dice) .if 2 or 4 comes on the dice we draw a point between the random point p and the vertex v1.similarly if 3 or 4 comes on dice , we draw a point between the previously drawn point and vertex v2.for 5 or 6 the vertex is v3.after a few iterations we get to see this amazing pattern30 -
I can be manipulated. Yes, I’m now more resilient to manipulation than ever because I’m autistically good at recognising patterns, yet I’m not perfect.
For a manipulator, there is just one problem — now and then, my disorder obliterates my entire worldview, together with the foreign manipulative framework, so I can start with a blank slate. It protects me. Yes, this protection is akin to our body’s “we’ll boil all the germs in our own blood” tactic that instead of defining winners and losers only leave survivors, yet the force is unstoppable. You cannot secure the land that is hit by a tornado every three months.
That inner Nemesis is so strong that it even defeated a complex, almost fractal-like manipulation of my own mother that I lived in since birth, leaving her with a wound that will never heal. Wannabe manipulator exes didn’t even stand a chance. I don’t care if that force destroys me or not, as during that time, there is no “me”.
About my mom, long story short, she told me “I want to stop treating my cancer to die as soon as possible just to not see you anymore” after my coming-out. Full story is here:

In one of my previous jobs. There are some scripts programmed by people that seems to don't know what a function is. It was a fractal of replicated if else code. Every half of the code is almost identical to the other one except for a simple things. Then if you see each half you can see the same pattern again and so on. Files like that are about 50.000 lines long. If you blame it, you see mostly the usernames of current managers. If that is not enough, it was written in perl

I’m working on a react codebase and company decided to add a new module.
Now im writing markup and css to ensure UX is smooth as designers thought of it.
Imagine my horror when I start to code and find out no matter what HTML tag i use, it’s been FUCKING OVERRIDDEN in the global stylesheet. AND STYLES HAVE BEEN OVERRIDDEN WITH !important
They’re also using Ant design as a component library. Guess what, default ant design classes have been overridden too. So i try to use ant design button or card, and bam, MAGICALLY SOME DESIGN FROM SOME SHITHOLE MODULE DECIDES TO FUCK WITH MY STYLES
On top of that, styles of parts of application has been written in SASS, some part of application uses bootstrap components some use third party components like tables and responsive grids to suit to their preferences. Some parts use handwritten css. Some parts use CSS IN JS and styled components. THE FUCK IS THIS GARBAGE!!!! THE FUCKING CODEBASE HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN!!!!!! YOU NAME A WAY TO ADD STYLES TO A COMPONENT, ITS THERE!!!
And the company’s management thought a “fractal” approach to maintain each individual view is “best” for SCALABILITY!!! HOW THE FUCK DID IT NOT CROSS YOUR DUMB MIND THAT FRACTAL APPROACH ALSO GUIDES TO HAVE ALL COMMON STUFF AT ONE PLACE!!!! THIS CODEBASE HAS DUPLICATE STYLES AND DUPLICATE CODE IN ALMOST EVERY MODULE!!!!
Not to mention every developer choosing to freely decide the way they should write their code without any guidelines.
HOW THE FUCK PEOPLE WRITE THEIR CODE WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT OTHER DEVS!!! SO BASICALLY I AM NOT ONLY CLEANING SOMEONE ELSE’S SHIT BUT ALSO TRY NOT TO SHIT IN THE PROCESS!! FML2 -
developing some programs for a new client to generate fractal images. any suggestions on programming languages I should use? my first instinct was Python.4

Rewriting some fractal generation code for a client in Python. his original code was in Visual Basic. he sent me his original code as a fucking Microsoft Word document...............

Lets make animated fractal pattern that spins and resizes I said. It'll be a fun and easy way to brush up on raw javascript and to try html5 canvas I said.
Provides a lot more learning opportunities than I had thought :)2 -
TL;DR: Brainfuck & Abstraction is so cool!
One of my dreams is to make a Mandelbrot Fractal with Brainfuck as the one on Rosetta Code.
I'm too lazy... So i'm writing a Compiler for Brainfuck.
At now i have 900 line of Python code and the operation VAR, SET, ADD, SUB, MUL with nested operation compatibility, IF, ELSE, ENDIF...
Probably i will doing it fast directly with BF but damn if abstraction is so cool!!4 -
So my friends USB drive suddenly doesn't work. It shows up in Windows' device manager (with no exclamation sign) but not in My Computer or even Disk Management (So I can't partition it) Reinstalling drivers doesn't work either. When trying to mount it in Linux, Linux complains that it can't see the drive. fsck and gparted don't read it either, but it shows up in lsblk. Dmesg complains it can't read the partition table (error -110). Any of you guys have bright ideas? Nothing like this has shown up in SO before so I've asked in both here and SO. Any ideas?12

I must have offended Satan or something, but I'm pulling my hairs out over this client data that feels like a fractal of bad validation invented to torment me. Misspelled field names, improperly combined fields, entries in the wrong column, impossible addresses, non-matching staging and production data / keys, invisible freaking characters that ruin automated matching - every dam thing you fix and the next one hits you in the face like a clown stepping on a rake. Jesus.1

The feeling when you create an enlarging fractal similar to Levy C because you want to draw simple Hilbert's curve with an old code you wrote when you were a noob.
I was an awesome noob apparently. -
Trying to learn AdonisJS. Looks like a really cool framework, but having a really hard time how all of it really comes together. I get the model-view-controller philosophy that Adonis abides by, but not really how it's implemented.

Last days i’m digging in the legacy of this company. As if the first styleguide i had to work with wasnt worse enough i found two others now that are using different frameworks and are not part of the deployment process.
So far i had fractal, now busy with patternlab and yesterday foundation and the latest one; storybook.
There is duplicate code everywhere how on earth do they expect me to keep any kind of overview in this freaking mess they made?!
