Am I the only one who thinks recruitment processes are lower quality the more the industry evolves?
I just shocked an interviewer by saying i’m not checking all their boxes from the ad, after being pushed by their hr to take the interview, regardless beeing made sure by HR thats not a problem.
After interview radio silence. i don’t get it...first you headhunt someone, spend 3 weeks in convincing for an on-site and then you can’t even bother sending a “Dude you are not what we look for in the end” mail?
Guess I ask too much from recruiters, did anyone else encountered this?3 -
I hate people who don't value transparent and assertive communication. I'm saying this thinking about an specific client.
This client is a boss of Web agency, and has some contractors working on their projects. I worked for them for a year, doing Web projects from scratch and also maintenance.
Then, one week, the communication stopped. No answers, no feedback, nothing. For months. They ghosted me.
I tried contact a few times with no luck. After 3 months, they started to remove me from slack, git, base camp.
And that's it. I was discarded and it seems I don't even deserved a message to be aware of that.
I don't mind to end business relationship anytime, for any reason. There are lot of reasons a working relationship would not work, and that's OK. We should have partners that are a great fit for us.
But at least say it. Ghosting is something ridiculous and unethical.5 -
Imagine being on vacation and the first notification you see on your phone in the morning is from your colleague on Teams:
"Hey! Are you available for a call despite the vacation?"
Fml and fuck me for being too kind to even spend time answering his questions instead of ghosting him.16 -
I genuinely regret and believed that I just got scammed by recruiter. There's a company wanted me to create a prototype of Social Media App in order to be qualified for the interview , which I completed in weeks, as soon as they got my source code, they went ghosting me.
I woke up in the early morning today, in my WeChat Moment appears to be an advertisement of a "Social Media App" , which the design and the concepts are very familiar.
So technically I just build the an app for their money making scheme, and I am unemployed.
I hate myself for making this decision, I thought the app is for testing my capabilities, but unfortunately that's not it...

I envision a website where you can review individual HR personel on the basis of;
1. Knows technical aspects enough for hiring
2. Respects the candidate
3. Respecting the messaging time limits, ghosting vs
4. Skill to bring best verdion of the candidate etc
What else would be the criteria?7 -
Someone blocked access to AWS RDS database and for the past few weeks I can't access the database from my machine when connected to our company network.
Created support ticket to internal IT team and someone closed the ticket. I re-opened the ticket and in the comment someone wrote "Their team doesn't handle AWS access".,
Wrote email to the director of infrastructure and that asshole replied to me asking some questions and after that his been ghosting me for past 2 weeks.
I'm tired and I don't have energy to do any more follow ups.3 -
Worst recruiter experience wasn't mine, but it was one I overheard:
Buddy of mine who, like me, was older does a couple rounds of interviews at a nice place and gets a call back from the company recruiter. He puts the recruiter on speaker phone so I can hear too.
They are very nice and tell him they selected another candidate, bummer but no big deal.
Hey I the age of ghosting at least they called right?
He is still upbeat and asks if there was anything he could do better interview or technical stuff.
She tells him "We weren't sure you would fit into the culture."
This is a bit odd as this guy is outgoing and one of those folks that everyone loves being around and working with, just a naturally likeable guy.
He asks what she meant about culture fit and she responds "Well you're older..."
He thinks he misheard her and asks again "Your older and we don't think you will fit in that way."4 -
New dev has been ghosting our team. Doesn’t attend meetings and is always “out”. My boss is about to handle it, but it’s been a drain on productivity to have this going on. Is this a common thing any of you are seeing in development professions? I can’t imagine doing that to an employer.5
-
Maybe it's just me, but taking dev work from a little side gig to a salaried career is more difficult than I thought it'd be. Soooo many applications going out with nothing back, recruiters ghosting...maybe it's just a bad time for jobs in general but good lord is it exhausting and stressing me the hell out.8

Today we reached 30 "dev-ghosting" episodes since the beginning of the year.
What is "dev-ghosting"?
It's every time a developer decides to completely disappear from a recruitment procedure instead of just texting "Hey, I am no longer interested in your offer".
You can call them as many times as you want, even if they were supposed to be at your office 2 hours ago for negotiating the salary after dozens of "I'd love to join your company as soon as possible": they are gone.
Forever.1 -
EVERY COMPANY IS STRAIGHT UP REJECTING OR GHOSTING AFTER GIVING A TAKE-HOME ASSIGNMENT.
I am just tired of this at this point. I have been unemployed for over two months now. I have been constantly applying to every opportunity that I see within my limits. I've also reduced my salary expectations by significant margins.
I'd have understood if I was getting rejected after the initial screening / technical interview. But I am not even getting there.19 -
Big fucking rant....
3 employers, 3 sets of phone and in person interviews.
Guess how many provided even a scrap of feedback why they passed and did not hire me. I always ask at the end of the interview if I can address anything left out, if they have any concerns, etc.... Everything is fine, no concerns, we'll be in touch...
Except just to say no, but not why
What the fuck? Is this this just another form of ghosting? I don't get it - they spend hours interviewing. Mother fuckers can't even give 2 minutes to write a fucking reply email with a reason?
Fml...6 -
Low performance because of shitty attention span and high procrastination
Don't get higher salary because low performance
With low salary I can't go to a professional to get a medication prescription and couldn't afford medication anyway
I just wanted to have a life and live it, be able to afford to go on dates or just do things, afford a car so I can go anywhere, I had this little online romance where I couldn't afford to go see the girl, she ended up just ghosting me and it fucking destroyed me
To get this low-paying job, I was forced to open a company to work as a contractor in order to circumvent labor laws (common practice in my country, encouraged by shitty labor laws and unstable local currency); I end up having to pay to get paid
To top it all, the government just wants more and more taxes and my pay is worth less and less
My mom wasted all her money and now needs my help
I should just find a way to kill myself1 -
Went to take a piss and saw my shit was still standing there! Unfazed! It was so huge the toilet couldnt flush it on the first try. So i had to piss on my shit and flush it again. Thats how big the bullshit was! Almost as big as the company who hired me and told me i passed the interview and now ghosting me by not sending me further email of officially hiring me7

Just finished a little proof of concept of a reprojected multisample antialiasing technique and daaaaamn it's looking good. First time ever a rendering technique I invented isn't complete shit so that's an improvement
It still has some (pretty big) issues with both spatial and temporal ghosting but I have some ideas in the pipeline
I wish I could show you guys comparison images but as it turns out most anti aliasing techniques look pretty good on still frames but only the good ones stand up under motion and I don't know of a good way right now to capture pixel perfect clips like that5 -
I had to take my backspace key apart today to pull some hairs out of the sensor because it was ghosting and it deleted a whole source file. I'm amazed at how easy it is to repair thinkpads with minimal equipment and limited dexterityy / vision.
The retainer clip is so sturdy it feels like idiots trying to force the two halves together at the wrong place was a primary use case.1 -
🔵 I used 75 Hz IPS screen for some years
🟠 Last year I bought a 144 Hz screen VA
🔵 Last month I finally bought myself 144 Hz IPS
I hated the slight ghosting on VA; however I gotta say that VA did have one major advantage over both of my old and new IPS:
On a sunny day, the VA panel reflected literally NO light, so it was always readable. But both IPS's suffer from ambient light; the only way to work comfortable with them was to close curtains during the daytime ☀️5 -
My primary Linux box has been getting rolling updates since 2012. The machine has changed, but I keep copying the current image over. It's a bit of an involved process, and I finally turned all my old notes into a kinda reference guide:

Finally published it, since I think I'm going to switch to zfsbootmenu to make the whole process easier using snapshots.1 -
There was a department. Long time ago their work was somewhat complicated: background checks of businesses, websites, ToSes, assuring agreement compliance, some risk management on top. They started as small 3 people team but over the years they were hiring new employees to catch up with the growing customer base. They were still struggling. Few years back we've integrated 3rd party services to help them and, finally, their backlog was gone!
In January they complained about how much more work they have since the merger so I inquired about which process was troublesome, what was the flow, etc., and it turned out to be very... Tinder-like - the issue was the sheer number of cases:
1. open a case,
2. check results in few windows,
3. if green + green + green, move right.
4. else move left.
It was ridiculous, I wouldn't stand for that. I sat for an hour, made some ghosting scripts that followed same business logic and saved results alongside their actual decisions. Last week I compared the two and there was zero difference so I green-lit it with my boss and pushed to prod.
Oh, the happiness on their faces when they heard the news, the disbelief, the tears of joy!
And then it happened. After 4 years of being cautious not to stir the waters I did it again. Yesterday I accidentally replaced 17 people department with 3 scripts. How was I supposed to know it was *all* they were doing??1
