Search - "ghosting"
Got fired abruptly (got sick, fell in delirious state for 2 weeks, living in really polluted city - sulphur poisoning, eyes got infected as well, had a really really bad time, couldn’t see at all for a week straight). Took sick leave, when I started to feel bad.
Hoping to relocate somewhere cleaner soon.
Anyway, the company I worked for, accused me of ghosting them (they sent me fucking emails), and let me go. Assholes then sent additional emails in a really unprofessional manner. I was so shaken by everything I didn’t want to respond to anyone. It was a remote position.
Picking up, spent majority of my funds due to healthcare costs and fucking bribes.
Interviewing for 4 weeks now, and nothing yet. I have 8 years of experience as a backend dev, working mostly in the fintech sector.
As of now, interview processes are shit, taking weeks to even respond, and even when they do giving tasks that take 3 days to complete (ain’t doing that shit, you’re not the only company).
Even worse are these fuckers who think they’re Google with their whiteboard interviews and talk about bringing your dog to the office with a picture of a dog as the company’s “happiness coach”. And then they offer you peanuts.
Sorry for the long post, had to vent our. It’s a shitshow6
What is worse than clients? Yeah, you know it now, the answer is coworkers.
But worst than coworkers, there is another category, which is the “exes” (coworkers).
Let’s talk about Jay (fictional name).
This guy is a spaghetti developer who managed to create a CMS in 1998, which is a fucking bug nest. You can’t do anything without having to write code here and there, and the user is not autonomous. Every fucking module has to be rewritten for every website, it’s slow, it freezes, it’s inconsistent structurally talking, not secured (ok we’re talking about 90’s ) and i don’t know how the fuck he managed to sell it to clients and to convince my boss to sell it and finance its development until 3-4 years ago.
I’ve been working on this masterpile of shit and also learnt to summon daemons to make this shit work, but still, writing PHP from scratch would be a pleasant task compared to work with it to be honest.
Anyway, last year my boss asked me to rewrite all the css of our website and I was fine with it, as long as I had The design files available. And this was ok, we work with a designer and she even bought me a Sketch license to open her files. (I have to mention nice people too sometimes).
This SCMS (Shitty CMS) works with less files to be compiled in css and should update automatically, then in the proper CMS windows you should be able to assign styles and shit. And I didn’t talk about the structure. There were at least 400 css classes for 5 pages...
However 2/3 times this shit couldn’t assign any horse fuck to anything, and stuff even broke. I try to adjust an animation, a slider in another page breaks. The developer was like “you don’t know shit” but still, the cockroaches fucker took 3 days per issue, and sometimes it stayed unsolved.
After weeks of thinking about this (we started “building” the new website in 2015...) he finally discontinued this piece of contemporary art and also started to make clients move to something up to date.
Peace was brought to me... until today.
A client calls and sees that an image slideshow doesn’t work properly on mobile.
Talked about this to my boss, and now he doesn’t want to make them switch and I will have to try to port this to something more modern. Time allocated : 4 hours.
I tried to explain him the fucking hell it is, but still, he wants me to fucking develop a slideshow on this human atrocity.
I’m going to cry and summon a demon to exchange my soul wig I don’t know whatever fucking skill I will need to achieve this.19
Am I the only one who thinks recruitment processes are lower quality the more the industry evolves?
I just shocked an interviewer by saying i’m not checking all their boxes from the ad, after being pushed by their hr to take the interview, regardless beeing made sure by HR thats not a problem.
After interview radio silence. i don’t get it...first you headhunt someone, spend 3 weeks in convincing for an on-site and then you can’t even bother sending a “Dude you are not what we look for in the end” mail?
Guess I ask too much from recruiters, did anyone else encountered this?3
I hate people who don't value transparent and assertive communication. I'm saying this thinking about an specific client.
This client is a boss of Web agency, and has some contractors working on their projects. I worked for them for a year, doing Web projects from scratch and also maintenance.
Then, one week, the communication stopped. No answers, no feedback, nothing. For months. They ghosted me.
I tried contact a few times with no luck. After 3 months, they started to remove me from slack, git, base camp.
And that's it. I was discarded and it seems I don't even deserved a message to be aware of that.
I don't mind to end business relationship anytime, for any reason. There are lot of reasons a working relationship would not work, and that's OK. We should have partners that are a great fit for us.
But at least say it. Ghosting is something ridiculous and unethical.5
HR from a company after ghosting me for a week after one round and submitting the assignment:
*phone rings at odd time in the evening*
HR: Hey this is Joanna from someCompany
Me: Yes.. tell me..
HR: I got feedback on your first round and it was negative.
Me: Well okay.. Thanks..
HR: We got feedback on your assignment too and it was negative.
Me: Alright.. cool. Thanks.. Stay in to....
HR: Yes, so I called you to see your availability for next round of interviews. Also, are you willing to relocate to someCity?
HR: And are you comfortable with this job opening we are offering you?
HR: I will also schedule your one round with my (HR) Manager to check you further (her voice was showing lack of confidence she had in me)
Me: Okay cool.. Monday works?
HR: I am blocking your time from ......
Me: Let me check my calendar..
HR: No we need to block interviewers calendar else someone will do...
Me: Can I revert by tomorrow morning?
HR: Perfect. I have blocked Monday from 03:30 to 04:30. All the best and prepare well
*Proceeds to give me tips for 5 minutes on what they are looking for*16
Worst recruiter experience wasn't mine, but it was one I overheard:
Buddy of mine who, like me, was older does a couple rounds of interviews at a nice place and gets a call back from the company recruiter. He puts the recruiter on speaker phone so I can hear too.
They are very nice and tell him they selected another candidate, bummer but no big deal.
Hey I the age of ghosting at least they called right?
He is still upbeat and asks if there was anything he could do better interview or technical stuff.
She tells him "We weren't sure you would fit into the culture."
This is a bit odd as this guy is outgoing and one of those folks that everyone loves being around and working with, just a naturally likeable guy.
He asks what she meant about culture fit and she responds "Well you're older..."
He thinks he misheard her and asks again "Your older and we don't think you will fit in that way."5
Today we reached 30 "dev-ghosting" episodes since the beginning of the year.
What is "dev-ghosting"?
It's every time a developer decides to completely disappear from a recruitment procedure instead of just texting "Hey, I am no longer interested in your offer".
You can call them as many times as you want, even if they were supposed to be at your office 2 hours ago for negotiating the salary after dozens of "I'd love to join your company as soon as possible": they are gone.
Big fucking rant....
3 employers, 3 sets of phone and in person interviews.
Guess how many provided even a scrap of feedback why they passed and did not hire me. I always ask at the end of the interview if I can address anything left out, if they have any concerns, etc.... Everything is fine, no concerns, we'll be in touch...
Except just to say no, but not why
What the fuck? Is this this just another form of ghosting? I don't get it - they spend hours interviewing. Mother fuckers can't even give 2 minutes to write a fucking reply email with a reason?
