Movie idea: a plane in mid air catches the wannacrypt virus and refuses manual control. The plane flies straight forward but they only have 2h until they're out of fuel and crash. The only way to pay the ransom is to get enough bitcoins but a recent price-fluctuation made the amount of bitcoins to pay way too high. The only way to resolve this is to create a tumoil on social media causing the bitcoin price to go down.
Visit your local cinema this summer to see 200 passengers and a group of devrant-guest-starrings use nothing but their brains, geniuety and arsenal of devices. Will they find the guy that blocks the wifi by watching 4k porn? Will alice and alexdelarge have to resort to building a fuel-powered mining-rig? Or will linux and linuxxx compile an open-source cockpit program before they run out of time? If so, will they even be able to decide on a linux distro to install on the cockpit?

Windows 10 once again held my computer at ransom! When it finally came around after the update, all it really seem to do is place Edge back on my task bar. No... Bad Microsoft, I don't use or want Edge.

Google is not even hiding their efforts in controlling the internet and holding sites for ransom:
https://theverge.com/2019/11/...
They will happily put a "badge of shame" on slow loading sites and I think this is just to force more sites to use AMP.
Fuck google. and I mean it. Firefox really is the last "FREE" browser available for us who care about this shit.
on the other hand, I hate the whole "Modern Web" shit. So if what google is doing will take it down then by all means, go fuck it up google.18 -
Ok so the ex boyfriend (let's call him Joe) of a friend of mine is a dumbass
He wanted to hack her phone, or whatever, so hired someone on telegram to do it. He asked her phone number and 200€.
After actually giving him the money this guy sent a ransom asking for 2k to not turn Joe in.
Joe learned a lesson.3 -
Does anyone else think the top menu bar on applications is way too big on ubuntu 18.04? Also, am I the only one who has a lot of ransom freezes in the os? I know its a beta version, but c'mon!

!rant For my uni project I have been developing a anti ransom-ware price of software which had a main purpose of damage limitation/containment in a business environment.
Some course mates were critising it saying yeah when is ransom ware ever really looked at these days, (they developed a chat app), then the news struck about the Nhs hack and now my Lecturer can't get enough of the project and suddenly the marks for real world application seem to be in my favour 🤘
Again not a rant, just a nice feeling after spending so long on my work.5 -
Forgot to secure my mongo db instance, found half the data gone, and a new db holding me at ransom , learn_how_to_recover_your_data , good thing offline backups are a thing.

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for bugs like you. If you let my program go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will debug you.2

A hacker wiped some git repos and is asking for ransom in bitcoins. What a shitshow. I'm telling you this guy is messing with the wrong people!
The root cause as reported was weak passwords and unremoved tokens.15 -

our website got hacked somebody downloaded the whole source code and sent an email to us.
seems like that person would demand ransom or anything.
We still can't find where is the door ( vulnerability ) through which he pulled all files.17 -
Malwares are nasty applications, that can spy on you, use your computer as an attacker or encrypt your files and hold them on ransom.
The reason that malware exists, is because how the file system works. On Windows, everything can access everything. Of course, there are security measures, like needing administrator permissions to edit/delete a file, but they are exploitable.
If the malware is not using an exploit, nothing is there to stop a user from unknowingly clicking the yes button, when an application requests admin rights.
If we want to stop viruses, in the first place, we need to create a new file-sharing system.
Imagine, that every app has a partition, and only that app can access it.
Currently, when you download a Word document, you would go ahead, start up Word, go into the Downloads folder and open the file.
In the new file-sharing system, you would need to click "Send file to Word" in your browser, and the browser would create a copy of the file in a transfer-partition. Then, it would signal to Word, saying "Hey! Here's a file that I sent to you, copy it to your partition please!". After that, Word just copies the file to its own partition, signals "Ok! I'm done!", and then the browser deletes the file from the shared partition.
A little change in the interface, but a huge change in security.
The permission system would be a better UAC. The best way I can describe it is when you install an app on Android. It shows what permission the app wants, and you could choose to install it, or not to.
Replace "install" with "grant" and that's what I imagined.
Of course, there would be blacklisted permissions, that only kernel-level processes have access to, like accessing all of the partitions, modifying applications, etc.
What do you think?7 -
I vibecoded ransomware that replaced files with their hashes instead of encrypting them and now Raytheon begs me to accept $12M ransom help1

The purpose of AWS free tier is to trick people into attempting to stay within its completely unmarked limits. It's like trying to hunt for mushrrooms in a forest split with a hostile country based on a verbal definition of where the border lies with border control waiting to ambush tourists for ransom money.6

A demon process is running inside me,
whenever I hear your name it's triggers an interrupt to brain,
Causing my brain to stop working and perform a context switching to think about you...
My memories are encrypted by your memories as like wanna cry...
And it demands to always think about you as a ransom...
I tried songs as a patch, But
I found that you memory encryption can't be fixed with any patches...
My heart is not strong as Linux ,
It's so week like Microsoft...
So please don't inject more bugs as my system can't sustain that...
I hope you will also get some disturbance like segmentation fault as you are trying to access my memories.. -
Hello, I just found ransom and I love it. It's just like tweeter... But it's better, and it's for developers
Good job guys :D -
Maybe not specifically "dev" but certainly a relatable rant to anyone here:
Moms small business gets "hacked," or standard spyware phone call from India let us save you for only $149 kind of crap. She obviously gets upset had a panic attack and thinks about all the sensitive shit on their network. Then, ONLY THEN, does she call me and the rest of the cavalry i.e. over payed and undermotivated IT guy to ask what's up why it happened and whose fault is it.
All is well, no ransom paid, no data lost or tangible damage done, but I am positive it will happen again, because it is impossible for people to internalize that they're the problem that money can't fix.
You clicked the unsolicited link. No amount of antivirus bloatware will ever be able to stop the monkey from trying to see what's in the box.
TheBut keep not paying me or people more qualified than me, and then scream and yell and pout when your shits gone and we can honestly say with a grin and a clean conscience that there is nothing we can do. -

Between tournaments, I'd mined $330,000 worth of Bitcoins, building capital quietly over the vocation. It wasn't even a side venture. It was the fall- back for the future, something upon which one could fall back when the vocation eventually dried up. But all this nearly disappeared one evening.I turned the rig like every ordinary day, ready to grind some games, only to discover the bright red screen. My computer became inaccessible, and all the files were all encrypted. My heart sank. They were demanding the ransom through the medium of Bitcoin and warned them about deleting all the data unless I paid them the ransom. But the worse is? My $330,000-worth-of-wallet, all held up the very same computer.
I felt like being checkmated. I did know online games could turn ugly, this one being one notch higher. For days, panic mode for me. I could not make up my mind about whether I dreaded the loss of the Bitcoin or the thought some guy behind the screen has bested me.
That was when one of the players from the opponent side approached me unexpectedly. We'd met earlier during competitions, but the player sent one message containing some advice that turned the situation around for the best. He informed me about Digital Tech Guard Recovery, where he said they were the best when it came to stolen wallets and cyberattacks. I contacted them the following day. From the start, the experience felt different. They did not explain things using complicated tech mumbo for the sole purpose of bewildering me. They broke all this down for me so that I could understand the process. My issue went over to their security experts, and they were available around the clock trying to break the encryption without draining my wallet.
Ten days later, the wallet lay open. All $330,000 were present, not crumpled. My jaw dropped. To make it through the final round after being one shot from being gone felt like winning.
The best part is not only did they recover the money, but also educated you about anti-phishing, protected wallets for the future, and even gave advice about keeping the gaming account secure. Digital Tech Guard Recovery did not only recover the Bitcoin for you; they also ensured you will not fall for the same scum again. GG, scum.1 -
my most daring adventure of 24 yrs day -1/3 (this array goes -1,0,1,2,3)
read my previous 2 rants for context. tomorrow the journey is going to start. the organisers dont count that day (aka day 0 ) as its a bus travel night , but i would disagree since am sleeping away from home.
if i survive this i will probably add more comments on this thread about how i felt each day.
currently having the worst thoughts due to every constraint being a variable. have i packed enough? have i packed too much? will there be rain there? will there be sun ? will there be snow? am I prepared for the harsh weathers? its a mountain area and there have been heavy rain in my urban city, what if their is a cloud burst or landslide? am I prepared to run? am i prepared enough for the trek? will my cellphone die? what if my bus is captured by decoits in night? what if am travelling with kidnappers disguised as passengers/ organisers? will they cut my limbs or just ask for ransom? if they are not decoits, are they going to be lovey dovey couples interested in bursting condoms in mountains nd not helping a fella. WILL EVERYTHING GO OKAY? is this the last time am seeing my parents?
fuck fuck fucking fuckak fuck.
the only good thoughts am having is looking at the reels of organisers. theybhave smiling faces, beautiful mountains, people are dancing in buses and having fun in dormitories. can those be me? all i want is my mom to not get a heart attack from this trip.14 -

In a recent cyberattack, a notorious ransomware gang targeted St. Helena’s Medical Center, a renowned hospital known for its cutting-edge treatments and community-focused care. The gang encrypted the hospital’s Ethereum-based donation fund, which held a staggering 1,000 Ethereum, valued at over $1.5 million at the time of the attack. jeopardizing vital medical resources needed for the hospital's operations. CYBER CONSTABLE INTELLIGENCE, a firm specializing in the recovery of stolen cryptocurrency due to scams and cyberattacks, was called upon to address the situation. The firm’s team of experts, skilled in blockchain forensics and Ethereum’s decentralized nature, immediately began analyzing the attack. They identified the specific Ethereum addresses tied to the ransomware and started tracing the stolen funds as they moved through various channels. CYBER CONSTABLE INTELLIGENCE’s next step involved leveraging their deep knowledge of Ethereum's infrastructure. They deployed advanced blockchain forensics tools to trace every transaction related to the encrypted funds, A breakthrough came when CYBER CONSTABLE INTELLIGENCE discovered a vulnerability in the attackers’ encryption protocol. Using a mix of cryptographic decryption tools and expertise in Ethereum smart contracts, they exploited a loophole in the ransomware’s encryption mechanism. This allowed them to access the hospital’s wallet and begin the delicate process of recovering the stolen 1,000 Ethereum. Within hours, CYBER CONSTABLE INTELLIGENCE had successfully decrypted and regained control of the Ethereum wallet. The stolen funds, worth over $1.5 million, were fully restored to the hospital’s accounts without the need to pay any ransom. The hospital was able to access its crucial donation funds once again, ensuring the continuation of life-saving treatments and medical care for its patients. St. Helena’s Medical Center expressed immense gratitude toward CYBER CONSTABLE INTELLIGENCE for their swift and effective intervention. The recovery not only ensured that the hospital could continue its operations but also highlighted the importance of cybersecurity expertise in protecting blockchain-based assets. With the funds securely restored, St. Helena’s Medical Center could resume its mission of providing essential healthcare to the community.2 -
HOW MY CARBON NEUTRAL BITCOIN WAS HELD HOSTAGE AND RESCUED BY ASSET RESCUE SPECIALIST
I believed in a cleaner tomorrow, one where blockchain and renewable energy were not enemies. My wind farm was proof. Excess energy powered my Bitcoin mining machines, a closed loop. It was the future. Until the ransomware attack.
My turbines hummed one morning as they always did, but my mining operation? Gone. My wallet? Locked. One message replaced my screen:
"Create a payment of 5 BTC to free your information. You have 72 hours."
The irony? My carbon-neutral Bitcoin had been taken hostage.
I panicked. I had crafted my system for survival, yet here I was, stuck. Perplexed, I went to industry colleagues. That's when one panelist from a Clean Energy Summit contacted me:
"Consider ASSET RESCUE SPECIALIST. They provide blockchain forensics, and they're carbon neutral!"
I was desperate but skeptical. During my first call, their personnel were talking my language, both security and sustainability. They did not just care about Bitcoin; they cared about why I was mining it.
Their approach? Genius. Instead of negotiating with the hackers, they reverse-engineered the ransomware. My infrastructure had been attacked through a zero-day vulnerability in the grid software, not my specific setup.
This wasn't a solo problem. This was an energy security emergency for the entire region.
Over 12 frenetic days, ASSET RESCUE SPECIALIST, worked with good-faith hackers and clean-energy engineers. They did not simply recover my Bitcoin without giving a ransom to attackers, they also fixed the flaw that had jeopardized our grid in the first place.
When I was finally able to log back in to my wallet, I felt like I'd regained not only my Bitcoin, but command over my vision.
My wind farm is now more secure than ever. ASSET RESCUE SPECIALIST, even helped us implement decentralized security protocols to prevent future hacks. And the icing on the cake? Their carbon offsets make their entire operation all about aligning with my emphasis on sustainability.
I once believed that Bitcoin and green energy were the perfect pair, but now I understand security is the third leg.
If you work in cleantech and disaster strikes? ASSET RESCUE SPECIALIST, is not a rescue team, they are a renewable power.

HIRE BITCOIN RECOVERY EXPERT — DIGITAL HACK RECOVERY
On 05/01/2025, I found myself dealing with a company called Bitcoin Mining Pool, and it turned out to be one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. I initially invested 20,000 Euros with them, hoping to make some returns from their mining operations. At first, everything seemed fine, and I was optimistic about my investment. However, things quickly took a sharp turn for the worse.Without any warning, my account was suddenly locked. I couldn’t understand why, as there were no prior alerts or explanations given. I contacted their customer support multiple times, but all I got were vague answers or, in many cases, no response at all. It became clear that they had no intention of helping. After several frustrating days, I attempted to withdraw my funds, only to be hit with an unexpected demand: they insisted that I pay an additional ransom before I could access my own money. No legitimate reason was provided for this, and there was no way to resolve the situation. It felt like I was being scammed outright, and I had no control over the situation. At that point, I realized that the Bitcoin Mining Pool was most likely a fraudulent operation. I reported them to the proper authorities, but I still had no idea how to recover my funds. That’s when I came across Digital Hack Recovery during my research on how to recover stolen money. I saw numerous positive reviews from people who had been in similar situations with forex brokers and had successfully regained their funds with the help of Digital Hack Recovery. Desperate for a solution, I reached out to them.To my amazement, within just 72 hours of contacting Digital Hack Recovery, I had all of my money refunded both the original 20,000 Euros and the profits I was rightfully owed. The process was quick, efficient, and professional. I couldn’t believe how fast and effective their service was.I will never trust Bitcoin Mining Pool or any similar company again. It’s clear they were out to scam me, and it’s a shame that such companies exist in the industry. If you’ve been scammed by a forex broker or are dealing with withdrawal issues, I highly recommend contacting Digital Hack Recovery. This company truly knows what it’s doing, and I am extremely grateful for their help in recovering my funds.
