So my current PC is named the tesseract for its power and squareish case shape.

I just had a thought that if I ever seriously upgrade it or build a new PC, I should name it Thanos...

Hes a mass murderer. An absolute monster based purely on the scale of his actions. The scale of his murder elides over any moral considerations of intent or pretensions of intent, and sincerity no more absolves him than sincerity absolves a terrorist.

What this movie should have done for all the thanos dickriders or would-be dickriders, is taught a valuable eye opening lesson: how easy it is make people in general agree with anything--anything at all, no matter how appalling, how monstrous, so long as the instigator is framed sympathetically on the golden screen. It should have opened your eyes about just how powerful and susceptible you and anyone else are to propaganda.

Dont believe me? Take your most hated politician, left or right. Now imagine they did exactly what thanos did.

Would you still be ok with it? Of course not. Because the fallacy here is to impute moral or logical worthiness onto a cause simply because the agent of it is sincere or can be empathized with.

More generally, Thanos actions presuppose that population control is not a social and technological issue, which it is, and like everything else will come under the pressure of technology. On a long enough timeline then it's a self limiting problem (by definition).
Which is what makes this example of propaganda so vicious: precisely because this subset of the public is so vacuous and infantilized as to actually believe movie logic malthusianism is the same as reality.

Every time a new hype thing appeared, I was annoyed, like "kids these days and their tiktoks".

But at some point in time, this pattern of mine changed completely. I don't know how it happened, I don't know when it happened, but now I experience... acute nostalgia?

I miss Elon Musk and his twitter fanbase. I miss tiktok. I feel like a time traveller who went into their past, which is our present, to experience the cultural landmarks once again, because their time here is limited, and tomorrow they will have to go back.

I miss my autism problems and mental health uphill battle. I miss avengers and thanos. I miss metaverse.

Oh, and also... I miss you.

It’s certainly a feeling of progress as a dev when you get to using the advanced features of git to rewrite history successfully.

Though to make this a proper rant: holy hell what a ride! I’m glad I had everything backed up somewhere. Somehow I’d went Thanos on the repo. Deleted about half the files at random. Had to fast forward and then rewrite the history via rebase. Dropped a bunch of commits I think I should have squashed. I’m still wondering if I even did the right thing. I think cherrypicking is what I’ll go for next time. My repo now reads 59 commits behind but whatever. All my work got into one commit which is what the dev controlling prod wanted.

I have always wanted to be a writer. I just pirated Dan Brown's origin and immediately felt bad. suddenly I got this feeling, if god decides to include all the pirates as sinners and tries to wipe them out like Thanos did I am pretty sure 75% of them would be outta this world (considering even mp3 downloads as piracy). I might need a special therapy to calm myself down if at all I write a book and I find it pirated across the internet.
