A new way of making bad commits:
alias fuckit='git commit -m "$(curl -s whatthecommit.com/index.txt)"'
Its like Russian roulette with commit messages!24 -
What's your favorite shell alias that you made for yourself?
I use this one all the time:
squash () {
git rebase -i HEAD~${1}
}
Runner up though is `git-fuckit` which resets everything to origin/master.13 -
Wanted to open the door to the outside word and see this fucker just sitting at eyelevel a few centimeters away from my face... I'm awake now.
And don't worry he lives his live outside now.18 -
My Sunday Morning until afternoon. FML. So I was experiencing nightly reboots of my home server for three days now. Always at 3:12am strange thing. Sunday morning (10am ca) I thought I'd investigate because the reboots affected my backups as well. All the logs and the security mails said was that some processes received signal 11. Strange. Checked the periodics tasks and executed every task manually. Nothing special. Strange. Checked smart status for all disks. Two disks where having CRC errors. Not many but a couple. Oh well. Changing sata cables again 🙄. But those CRC errors cannot be the reason for the reboots at precisely the same time each night. I noticed that all my zpools got scrubbed except my root-pool which hasn't been scrubbed since the error first occured. Well, let's do it by hand: zpool scrub zroot....Freeze. dafuq. Walked over to the server and resetted. Waited 10 minutes. System not up yet. Fuuu...that was when I first guessed that Sunday won't be that sunny after all. Connected monitor. Reset. Black screen?!?! Disconnected all disks aso. Reset. Black screen. Oh c'moooon! CMOS reset. Black screen. Sigh. CMOS reset with a 5 minute battery removal. And new sata cable just in cable. Yes, boots again. Mood lightened... Now the system segfaults when importing zroot. Good damnit. Pulled out the FreeBSD bootstick. zpool import -R /tmp zroot...segfault. reboot. Read-only zroot import. Manually triggering checksum test with the zdb command. "Invalid blckptr type". Deep breath now. Destroyed pool, recreated it. Zfs send/recv from backup. Some more config. Reboot. Boots yeah ... Doesn't find files??? Reboot. Other error? Undefined symbols???? Now I need another coffee. Maybe I did something wrong during recovery? Not very likely but let's do it again...recover-recover. different but same horrible errors. What in the name...? Pulled out a really old disk. Put it in, boots fine. So it must be the disks. Walked around the house and searched for some new disks for a new 2 disk zfs root mirror to replace the obviously broken disks. Found some new ones even. Recovery boot, minimal FreeBSD Install for bootloader aso. Deleted and recreated zroot, zfs send/recv from backup. Set bootfs attribute, reboot........
It works again. Fuckit, now it is 6pm, I still haven't showered. Put both disks through extensive tests and checked every single block. These disks aren't faulty. But for some reason they froze my system in a way so that I had to reset my BIOS and they had really low level data errors....? I Wonder if those disks have a firmware problem? So that was most of my Sunday. Nice, isn't it? But hey: calm sea won't make a good sailor, right?3 -

I found a tool that saves passwords in plain text. Our client didn’t involve us in the decision process. They bought it. You did this to yourself... #1995 #fuckit1

So my time saver automation can not be used because automation is not reliable.
Yeah sure make me extract data manually from 800 urls by hand and see if there is no human error.

my work drives me crazy sometimes, our production tables dont have primary keys or indexes. There are several tables who are basically the same, most scripts/reports are hacked together with no common agreement on dates/values and as a result, it is almost impossible to check whether values are correct or not.4

The tale of mouse and clock
Once upon a time, there was a mouse that wanted to know what time it was. So it asked the first best man, but unfortunately, it didn't understand Suaheli. Anyway, the man just mumbled "gotta kick the cat in the ass".
So the mouse went on and nearly would have got it when another mouse came into play that had been sewed onto an elephant's ear for 27 years - but it had forgotten the exact time it had gotten sewed on.
So the searching mouse came up with doing something about the sun, but since it was just a dumb mouse, it looked into the sun and was blinded for a time.
Somewhat desperately, it staggered through the gutter where there was quite some garbage. Just by chance, it fell over a dumped wristwatch and broke its nose.
Moral of the story: even a blind mouse sometimes can find a broken clock.2 -
Goodjob Self, you fucked up your Git local repo.

think I had my first burnout
so exciting
I couldn't sleep last night and obsessively worked all day. couldn't pay attention during dinner / relaxing before sleep with people. everyone went to bed, I didn't. ended up getting up and working then trying to sleep, repeat, like 6 times. morning came, neighbours running saws and shit, eventually slept 2 hours then 1.5 hours, if even. then worked more. good morning. fuckit. then got really pissed at everything for like 4 hours and wanted to be left alone any time a person got close to me, BUT KEPT WORKING, stressing. until I realized holy shit I'm fucking miserable
now I think I'm crashing
IM SO EXCITED. I've never been so obsessed about my own incompetence at something before. I've never had this. this leads me to believe all burnout is due to people trying to fight their incompetence maybe?
people always tell me I work too much and all that but I never understood cuz I like it. maybe this is what they meant though. in which case I'm mad at all of them for incorrectly identifying my emotional state in the past grrrrr. cuz they'd use that as an excuse to rope me into doing things I didn't even find enjoyable because supposedly it was "good for me" but I thought it was fucking lame. fucking hell7 -
My friend wouldn't believe that I just spent 4h messing around to finally reinstall Arch just because Civilization stopped working.
So civ randomly started not wanting to launch. After trying tons of fixes, disabling runtime libs, changing bunch of env variables for about 2h, I started to get quite annoyed and started uninstalling stuff and reinstalling. Ended up uninstalling too much stuff, so I decided to go back to the base package and reinstall everything.
And STUPID ME decides to remove the laptop from the dock cause why not, and guess what STUPID ME FORGOT THE BATTERY ISN'T INSTALLED AND COMPUTER SHUTS DOWN DURING MKINITCPIO.
Scared, I turn it back on aaaand ...
KERNEL PANIC. FUCK.
Spent 1h trying to solve the problem, then decided fuckit and backep up data and just reinstalled Arch for the last our. I'm happily playing again now 😁 (4h after...) -
Google fonts, linking to open sans regular (400) displays open sans condensed. How shit. Discovered that if you have open sans installed on your Mac this is what happens. Fuckit. I'll host it myself.

Had a Long discussion with stake owners and PM. Ended in despair over corporate guidelines and impossible demands from the board / CEO.
PM finally said: Fuckit, let's get a beer, i'm buying.
Best day so far this week.1 -

Currently studying.
I feel like degrees are quite valuable. It is basically the university vouching for you and that they think you are qualified within an area. This is quite valuable.
Through work, I have seen some horrible shit in production, therefore i think it makes good sense for a company to ask for some "minimum requirements" which can be verified by an institution like a university. Not saying that all who graduates are good programmers, they just have the minimum required knowledge and skill that the university demands in order to vouch for them.
I believe that on average the "average bad programmer" from a university will be better than "average bad programmer" without degree.
Plus, if you have a decent education system in your country, you shouldn't have to pay for you degree.1 -

Okay, I know that osTicket, code-wise, is a fucking joke but know what? We upgraded our server to PHP7, osTicket stopped working. Okay, I need the newest version that it works, I downloaded it. It failed at database migration cause it's not PHP5 but I need it cause it should support PHP7...Wtf??!

Recommendations for customizing vim & i3 for programming workflow?
Do you have any settings/plugins you prefer?
Also, any nice ideas for compiling latex docs while writing it in vim? Like a side by side thing maybe, not really looking for ide.6 -
My work does not use fucking version control of any kind.... Today I had to look over some old report I did, which contained a few errors, the script to create this report I have since modified so I have no idea when this went wrong and the script now is also not functioning properly for this task...
I know it's my own fault but fucking goddammit why don't we just use git?!!?!5 -
Fuck flutter fuckery

Having such bad ADD that I have 20 different projects going in 20 different stacks / languages.
It's cool to have breadth but now I really need depth. But what do I choose?
Ah fuckit I'll just go try out this other shiny new thing. -
Damn you nginx...
Let's say you have a simple location directive like:
location / {
auth_reques /auth;
index index.html;
}
location = /auth {
internal;
proxy_pass <...>;
}
Now guess how often nginx makes a subrequest to /auth.
Thats correct TWO times... "why?" you ask?
Well isn't it obvious that nginx hits the auth request, then rewrites the request to the index file, hits the auth request again because it's technically a different request now and then proceeds to hand out the file?
Thanks for documenting this. NOT6 -
Just saw a production website where the routing looked like this:

1am monday morning.. last commit of last week👀
What happens: previous commit crashed git repo and destroyed the HEAD😠 after 1 hour of repairing now 500 damn files have to be merged........ FUCK MY LIFE -
Send me your best git-fuckit scripts! I’m compiling the best ones. The winner needs to be versatile enough to handle both simple and upstream/forked repos.2
