It was between me and another guy.
I fucking won!
I GOT THE FUCKING JOB!!
I'll be a junior Linux Support Engineer in a week or so!
OMG OMG YAYAYAYAYAY103 -
Had my first 'mentor' moment at work today!
Newest guy couldn't figure something out and asked me, slightly nervously, for help.
Suddenly I went into mentorish state, explaining stuff I was doing while fixing it in under a minute!
Felt good 😃8 -
Just signed a contract for a new room!
This means I'll be going from 500kbs to a general 30-50mbs 😍21 -
So it’s not been announced yet so I can’t tell anyone else other than my wife but I need to say it somewhere and this is anonymous....
I’VE JUST BEEN PROMOTED!! Technical Lead!!! And a 14% raise!!
Yay!!!15 -
YES YES YES YES I HAVE MY FIRST INTERVIEW NEXT WEEK (SERVER MANAGEMENT/SUPPORT POSITION)
*JUMPS AROUND* (NOT LITERALLY BECAUSE AT A TRAIN STATION)41 -
150K, fucking finally!
And no, it's not 'just about the upvotes' for me, I already explained that one numerous times.
Yay!34 -

Today at work I got a strange email
'about your msi laptop'
(Some background information, a few months ago I went on vacation and left my work laptop at home. Long story short some one broke in and stole my msi laptop)
So this email had my interest. I opened it and the content was something like:
Hi! My name is x, I clean/repair laptops partime and I noticed your personal information on this laptop, normally people whipe their data from their laptop before selling so this is just a double check, if the laptop was stolen please call me on xxx
If I hear nothing I'll assume its alright and will whipe your data
So of course I immediately called him, after a conversation I informed the police who is now working on the case7 -
So this happened today. I'm bad at remembering names so I always have to ask again.
for($i=0;$i<15;$i++)
{
Me: what was your name again?
Client: well, it still IS {name}. I'm still alive, you know.
😅😰
}
Colleagues noticed it as well 😅16 -
Sister broke up with her bf (sad) and he gave her a fidget cube as a present a little back. She wanted to get rid of memories so guess who now has his first fidget cube, yes! her brother! Meeeeeee 🙌😃14
-
My sister in law got me this guy for Christmas after I told her about devrant!
She found it in a rubber duck shop in Amsterdam.
Best sister in law!11 -
Fuck yeah.
Last year our government voted out new mass surveillance law through like it was nothing AND with a huge amount of votes in favor and hardly any against. (remember that the government is *supposed* to represent the people of the country)
A few students made a referendum happen, 48 percent of our people came to vote for this.
The first exit poll results are about 50/50!
I'm happy as fuck, damn!
Sorry for this slightly political posts and if this entirely violates all terms, I'll remove it. I thought this fits, though, because of what this new law.15 -
Always wanted to build a URL shortener. Guess what I'm building right now :D (next to working on a blog article)
Somehow this is making me very happy 😊23 -
Still haven't thought of a proper rant to celebrate my achievement but for now, what about a selfie of me with a celebration special beer!53

Real and true story of me.
Friend : what was his first pickup lines that melt you ?
Me : nah, he was straight to the point
F : come on, you both always look romantic all the time. there must be something in the beginning. tell me more !
Friend : fine, he said "I Like you, can i i SSH you ?" so i replied "I'm not that complicated, sudo hug me"
F: i regret being your friend.16 -
Well, this has been one hell of an awesome ride already. I’m at 70K+ and the biggest ranter as for reputation (those upvote thingies). Although I don’t care about being the biggest one currently, I do take pride in it but I’ll get back to that one later on. (I’ll very likely lose the first place at some point but oh well, couldn’t care less :))
I joined back in May last year through an article I found on https://fossbytes.com (thanks a bunch!), joined and was immediately addicted. The community was still very tiny back then and I’ve got to say that getting upvotes was also not the easiest :P. But, I finally found a place where I could rant out my dev related frustrations: awesomeness. I very much remember how, at first, reaching 1K was my biggest devRant dream and it seemed to be freaking impossible. Then I reached 1K and that was such a big achievement for me! Then the ‘dream’ (read these kind of dreams (upvotes ones) as things that would be awesome to reach not just for the upvotes but for participating, commenting, ranting, discussing and so on within the community, so as in, it shows your contribution) became 10K which seemed even more impossible. Then I reached 10K and 20K seemed freaking impossible but I got there a little faster and from that point on it’s been going fast as hell!
It’s always been a dream for me to become a very big but also ‘respected’ or especially well known user/person somewhere because that pretty much never happened and well, having dreams isn’t wrong, is it?
The biggest part of that dream, though, was that it would be a passion of mine that would get me there but except for Linux, the online privacy part was something I always deemed to be ‘just impossible’. This because irl I ALWAYS get (it’s getting less though) ridiculed for being so keen on my privacy and teaching others about it. People find me very paranoid right away but the thing is that if they ask me to explain and I actually present evidence for my claims, it’s waved away as if it’s nothing. (think mass surveillance, prism, encrypted services, data breaches and so on)
I never thought I’d find any other people who would have the same views as I do but fucking hell, I found them within this community!
Especially the fact that I’ve grown this much because of my passion is something I am proud of. It’s also awesome to see that I’m not the only one who thinks like this and that I’ve actually find some of you on here :)
So yeah, thanks to everyone who got me where I am now!
Also a big thanks to sir Dfox and Trogus for putting your free time into making this place happen.
Love you peoples <3 and to anyone ‘close’ on here I forgot, if you match any of the comments as for privacy/friendliness etc, don’t worry, those nice things also apply to you! My memory just sucks :/
P.S. Please do NOT comment before I comment that I’m done with commenting because I’ve got a lot of comments coming :D61 -
The good news: I'm finally getting a company phone yay!
The bad news: this means I'll be on call soon 😅19 -
My gitlab order has just arrived and because there’s no news after a month, I decided to contact them and they gave a water bottle, a mug, and a pack of stickers for free31

It's great to have someone who's good at frontend while you suck balls at it so that I can fully focus on the backend :D. (ewpratten if you still want to you can join 404response, he can explain you everything he's doing and how you can help)29 -
Follow up rant from my previous one about the Linux job hunting.
Recruiter called today! He said that the company he recruits for is looking for people with a lot of Linux experience and since I've been working with it for seven+ years (not extremely long but keep in mind that this job requires no certifications etc except for a highschool diploma) he really wants me on board.
Asked him what my chances are and if he could be honest about that (it's a genuinely nice recruiter) and he replied with "95 percent".
It'd be loads of traveling every day but including free certifications etc so awesomeness!
Let's see how this goes :)7 -
My VS Code extension just got 100 downloads! It just makes me so happy to know that people like what I've made. ☺️3

I'm not really one for news, but apparently (a while ago) there was some 12 year old who taught himself to code and made his own apps and whatnot. Girlfriend informed me of this.
Just got told that I'm a useless piece of shit because Im 23 and don't develop apps and I'm not rich like this kid. Fuck man. I develop mostly server side software, and I personally fucking wrote half the shit the company uses. No one really knows, so naturally in the silent developer. Don't much care about that. But fuck, being told I'm useless because a 12 year old has more money than me really made me take one straight to the balls. Now I'm sitting here, moping, downloading android studio, and just going to prove a person wrong. I can fucking code an app, it's not that hard.
Should have just said fuck off, but I don't have the strength and effort to face flying cups anymore.
Android sdk, here I come.12 -
Was running tests on a big project I'm doing which still contains a fair amount of bugs but I was sure that all thresholds would succeed and the test wouldn't fire an alert.
Ran the test: alert received any fucking way.
FUCK.
*checks rule*
*waaaait a second, I've set the threshold differently by accident...*
HOLY SHIT THIS MEANS IT WORKS 😵
*pats project* - "good project 😊"3 -
Bought a 🏡.. o.O 🎉 Yaaay!
Soon™ I'll have a decent home office! & a 🐈 & a 🐕... maybe.. I hope.. (:30 -
I think my most favorite part of programming is when I just try something out and it actually works despite really just guessing.4

Happy to announce my middle mouse button has started working again!
I know you were all worried... :/3 -

I just switched jobs, so there are no vacation days for me, besides the usual.
PM: "Are you returning for work on January 2nd?"
Me: "Yeah, but I'm kinda new at the company here, so I'll be available 26-28 if you want to reach me"
PM: "Screw those days. Nobody will be here anyways, you can take those off for me."
Me: "(cries in Spanish)"6 -
It happened.
I have gotten 100% on every Google foobar question.
I just have to do the cryptography thing, then I'm done.11 -
YAY a JOIN query (MySQL) just ran successfully at the first try for the first time of my life!! I never understood joins but slowly getting there I guess :)4

Your git commit history on your personal branch when you're freaking out and cry tears in joy because the code you spent the whole previous week on to somehow get it to work suddenly DOES work.3

So, today I asked my senior developer a query he took my laptop and changed the ide theme to black.
My doubts were solved, I am enlightened programmer now.8 -
Alright everyone!
It is time for me to run an experiment with the people of devRant. There are just a few simple rules for this experiment.
They are:
1. Do not change the username
2. Do not change the password
2.5. Do not delete the account
3. Respect others
4. Don't get banned
5. I am watching
So.. Time for the experiment.

So... i have almost finished training my script on linuxxx. It likes saying some very linuxxxy things (and occasionally just copyu-paseting from one of his rants) Here are some things it has said to me:
How motherfucking difficult can it be to port forward something internally?!
"linuxxx seems to know a lot more about privacy than the terminal"
As for github selling itself to Microsoft, this most likely nearly working
Does anyone know a way of to do a video chat through node js? NOT through webrtc.
Me: *turns laptop on and indeed, it takes a fuckton of time*

What if devRant made this app just to see how to improve their own company without looking like shit?1

The year is 2019.
C++ is still one of the most powerful programming languages around..............with no centralized package manager that is widely adopted by the community that allows one to sandbox libraries from conflicts with one another.
I ain't hating, just find this funny and I love cpp
Apt get/git submodules it is!!12 -
Got my first successful freelance job done today!
Was a very basic website but...I still got paid and I feel good about it. Seriously thinking about making a decent web app that can help me nail more customers.3 -
Out of necessity (or rather: lack of support) I've been neglecting my test suite for the past ~month. Now that one of the beta versions of RSpec has better Rails 6 support, I can finally get back to writing tests. Yay!
I just merged staging into my testing branch, and it's now 344 commits ahead of origin! eep.
So, I've got lots of tests to write. yay.random root loves her tests test suite yay! i didn't break anything! rspec root talks in third person in the tags surprise!3 -
Obligatory age++ post.
For a change I feel really appreciated after receiving a bottle of wine, a bottle of jack, $50 gift card, a deluxe chocolate cake and 12 muffins from my coworkers 😁
So they do care after all 😢5 -
36.63% of the respondents said they’re not planning to use any new programming languages in the coming 12 months.
But, 18.15% of them said they’re planning to use Python, while 16.83% said they’re planning to use Go, followed by JavaScript with 16.17%.
What about the tools?
Honestly, this was the hardest part of the report since it required very thorough data cleaning, and it turns out developer teams use a wide variety of tools, especially when it comes to testing and project management.24 -
Yay, my sister is going to Mongolia next week from Infosys as a project lead in Finacle. (a banking product)7

Yay, my raspberry pi and it's projects are now on php7
Damn, Apache was the real pain in the ass with this migration, # ae2enmod php7.2 apparently is for it to decide if it will respect my sudo'n decisions😂5 -

Finally after ~3 weeks of waiting.... 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks @dfox and @trogus ☺️☺️🤗🤗🤗1 -
So.....Google Flutter is finally out of beta and ready to go.
Why? Well you see, Google realized that Android development was a complete fucking mess (50+ lines of code to get a permission? Yeah eatadick) and that Fb had it right with React Native which held a better model for building interfaces and manipulating said data. Dart as a language is very nice and for those comming from C#, Java and Js should not pose that much of a hassle.
I love Java, I really do, but Google took care of making Android Java development as tedious as fucking possible with the quirky Android API. Hopefully Flutter will make it better and hopefully Fushia will become a better OS.
Remember, language extensions or frameworks happen for 2 different reasons:
1 the community loves the environment and language enough that they make more cool stuff for it (Js, Ruby, Python etc, this phenomena happens in said ecosystems)
2 the environment is so severly flawed that people add libs to fix it (or extensions to the language if we ate talking about a language)
E.g Android Butterknife, okhttp etc.
I welcome our Dart overlords.10 -
Alright lads here is the thing, have not been posting anything other than replies to things cuz I have been busy being miserable at school and dealing with work stuff.
Our manager left us back in February. Because she was leaving I decided that I wanted to try a different path and went on to become a programmer analyst for my institution, if anything I knew that it was going to be pretty boring work, but it came with nice monetary compensation and a foot in the door for other data science related jobs in the future. Thing is, the department head asked me to stay in the web technologies department because we had a lack of people there and hiring is hard as shit, we do not do remote jobs since our work usually requires a level of discretion and security. Thus I have been working in the web tech department since she left albeit with a different title since I aced the interview for the analyst position and the team there were more than happy to have me. I have done very few things for them, some reports here and there and mostly working directly with the DBA in some projects. One migration project would have costed my institution a total of 58k and we managed to save the cost by building the migration software ourselves.....honestly it was a fucking cake walk, if you had any doubts about the shaddyness of enterprise level applications regarding selling overpriced shit with different levels of complexity, keep them, enterprise is shaddy af indeed. But I digress.
I wrote the specification for the manager position along the previous manager, we had decided that the next candidate needed to be strong with development knowledge as well as other things as to properly understand and manage a software team, we made the academic requirement(fuck you, yes we did ask for academic requirements) to be either in the Computer Science/software engineering area or at least on the Business Administration side. We were willing to consider BA holders in exchange for having knowledge of the development process of different products and a complete understanding of what developers go through. NOT ONE SINGLE motherfucker was able to satisfy this, some of them were idiots that I knew from before that had ABSOLUTELY no business even considering applying to the position, the courage it took for some of these assholes to apply would have hurt their mothers, their God if they had one, and their country, they were just that fucking bad in their jobs as well as being overall shit people.
Then we had 1 candidate actually fall through the cracks enough to get an interview. My dude here was lying out of his ass through the interview process. According to him he had "lots of Laravel experience and experience managing Laravel projects" and mentioned repeatedly how it would be a technology that we should consider for our products. I was to interview him alongside the vice president of our institution due to the head of my department and the rest of the managers for I.T being on vacation leave all at the same bloody time.
Backstory before the interview:
Whilst I was going over the interview questions with the vice president literally offered me the job instead. I replied with honesty, reflecting how I did not originally wanted him but feeling that our institution was ready to settle on any candidate due to the lack of potentials. He was happy to do it since apparently both him and the HOD were expecting me to step up sooner or later. I was floored.
Regardless, out of kindness he wanted to go through the interview.
So, going back to the interview. As soon as the person in question referenced the framework I started to ask him about it, just simple questions, the first was "what are your thoughts on the Eloquent ORM? I am not too fond of it and want to know what you as a full time laravel dev think of it"
his reply: "I am sorry I am not too familiar with it, I don't know what that is" <--- I appreciated his honesty in this but thought it funny that someone would say that he was a Laravel developer whilst not knowing what an ORM was since you can't really get away from using it on the initial stages of learning about Laravel, maybe if one wanted to go through the hurdle of switching to something like doctrine...but even then, it was....odd.
So I met with the hod when he came back, he was stoked at the prospect of having me become the manager and I happily accepted the position. It will be hell, but I don't even need to hit the ground running since I have been the face of the department since ages. My team were ecstatic about it since we are all close friends and they have been following my directions without complaints(but the ocational eat a dick puto) for some time, we work well together and we are happy to finally have someone to stop the constant barrage that comes from people taking advantage of a missing manager.
Its gonna get good, its gonna get fun, and i am getting to see how shit goes.7 -
Manager redesigned large parts of a website template that I have been working on.
now, this did not bother me one bit but I am pretty sure it has to do with the delivery of the message. She was so happy about the redesign and it really did look better. I could not find it in me heart to not comply and just be happy. Plus she always lets me come in super late :V and she really is pretty and very nice to us.
oh well.2 -
About to have damn near an entire month lf vacation. If i do something code related it will be with the only language that is kind to my heart and soul: Ruby.
weeeeeee8 -
Thanks @dfox n @trogus .
Never thought it will come to my country~ plus far far away village from main city.
Yay!!!
Where should i place it on?3 -

This morning, I thought I'd give devRantron a try, and man, I'm not disappointed.
Since I'm always at my computer, I rarely check my phone and now that we have a proper desktop client, I can finally shitpost while sitting at my desk. :v
No seriously though, this app is awesome.
Props to Tahnik and the other guys who worked on it.5 -
I'm doing databases in school now, but I couldn't wait to make one/learn basic SQL, so I made a database of the devices on the home network!
Shown here is the DB and an SQL query that was basically corrected by the program ;-;7 -
Was supposed to start my exams training today (Application Development study). At the daily scrum, I told the scrum master (teacher) that I heard (I did hear that tho btw) that the training only starts next week so 'if I could work on my framework to get it ready for the training'. I know I'm supposed to start today with my project but I rather finish my framework really.
He fucking said YES.
So this will be a happy week of framework programming :D -
So I got a 1.7 grand laptop for free a week ago.
Fuck me, the company I'm working at is the best.
Hp elitebook 840 g5, 16 gigs and auto -crypting ssd.
Corpo life is the best. Shame it's got windows on it and I can't get linux on it.5 -
Exams started today. Came back from paper, went to sleep. Woke up and was told I had mail.
...
Yay!
Thanks, @dfox and @trogus! -
I finally finished my Bachelors Degree that I was studying for while working 40-60h a week with 2 children.
During this whole time (3.5 years) I was totally into learning everything. Not just for my studies but I read many books about programming and architecture read thousands of blog posts and loved it to be a software developer.
And now suddenly I lost every interest in reading even one tiny post.
Software Development got boring and I just don't care about it anymore.
Probably just a down period, but who knows.
At least I finally can build my unfinished guitars that had to wait for so long. working on them makes me really feel happy 😊5 -
Not gonna lie. Graduate program has gotten me 100% absolutely miserable. I dunno if it is the institution or what. But shit man. I really don't wanna do it anymore as much as when i started with this institution. Might look into other options, but first class is definitely a pain in the dick. The ammount of hw is too much, the concepts are hard, but my biggest pain: the professor and the teaching assistants. Their accents are out of this world and they just can't speak proper English.
Might go to more....err....caucasian places.7 -
Woo! My first Vulkan window that does buffer swapping (swapchain image presenting in vulkan lingo). It doesn't draw anything yet and still took me 3 days lol
Note that if you try to resize it or minimize it or do basically anything with it the whole application crashes but still11 -
annnd they arrived and being put to good use! I also have the other one on my laptop but my phone is broke so I can't upload.3
-
Google has flagged a document in my drive, saying that it is violating its terms of service.
The document is just a digital logic and computer design book.
I don't know how a book is violating its TOS?20 -
I finally managed to install arch 😊 (in virtualbox).
I tried a few months ago on my actual computer but got the flashing underscore, and failed to find the cause. Ever since I've been meaning to try again but always didn't like the prospect of sitting there for ages just to end up with a complete mess. Luckily the tutorial seems a load clearer now (or maybe my understanding has improved) so it worked first time (second time if you count going back because I forgot to install a network manager).
Now I've just got to get a desktop environment, thinking of trying lxqt, and I forget about it for a while until I come back and realise everything's broken.3 -
I dislike ignorant pricks that insult others while being wrong.
I dislile people that feel the need to insult others based on their choices or prefferences for products, music and stuff like that.
I dislike people that are so blatantly arrogant that they refuse to acknowledge being wrong because of some weird made up status in their head (i.e i have a phd...i cannot possibly be wrong)
I really dislike teenagers that think that they know shit. They never do, suprisingly we have many of them here...
I dislike people that find ways to justify being assholes to others.
I also dislike people that hide behind a keyboard.
I dislike people that tend to follow trend opinions: "lolz mac suckz i kan du errthing in LenIXxX" shit like that irrititates me, also the php hate wars, I see people bitching about not having a job or experience in the field because they wont hire them for whatever hipster shit they are not using.......yet they make fun of people with php skills that have been on the industry far longer than what the haters have known how to use a computer....ah and some of them here are also on their teens....
All in all. I hate assholes really. I see many of them in this industry, and even tho I have seen a couple of them in here the great majority of the user base is absolutely amazing.
:) y'all beautiful people have a great weekend!8 -
So I got a call earlier today that a letter from the US arrived for me. I can only guess what's in it.1

Of course I'll get invited to a friend's party where I know no one. Should have known better...

Ran an app release yesterday, adding some new stuff and fixing a few bugs. Was scared this morning because APM didn't have any errors and the app was already in use by half of the userbase.
Turns out it's the most stable release so far! Day's all good again :D -

It even works with the smart tv remote:)6 -

And so I joined the club of receiving them fine looking stickers and shall proudly put them on me laptop! Thank you @dfox !5

In other news:
I've been notified that my new working visa is ready so I can start to work with the new company that offered me an overall-better job position.
Yay! -
It has arrived! :D
To think it was all thanks to my "noteporn" rant and all that I was eligible for those stickers. Weird flex but ok :3
In any case, thanks again to the devRant team for providing such a good network to all kinds of developers or aspiring developers alike :)4 -
Server bios corruption, yaay.
Server external backups, naay.
This happened just before migration to another server. I feel stupid for not having proper backups now, and molested by a dying panda because its less than 6 months ago i got the server. It was used, but still.3 -
I got an interview for a software internship in SF! So happy right now! Extremely nervous about the interview, guess I have to study up on some algos :)2

The amount of effort being made to make php a saner development platform is outstanding really, specially with the release of php8, really good features in there. As someone that started with version 4(*shivers*), and stuck with it all the way to the glory of 7, 8 is a welcomed addition.
One in particular that I really like is the fact that we now (fucking finally) have union types as well as fucking match expressions! Which granted, these are single lines, but in place of it one could argue for a function.
I am pretty excited for some of the other items, but have not had the time to play with anything yet really. Wonder how much more is in store.7 -
A day in the life of @C0D4
Yay it's Tuesday.....
So morning goes something like coffee, yea no coffee no @C0D4, get to the office, get busy with normal morning routine - run the almost automated scripts I have to run - delete the 100+ emails I don't actually need from last night, read the 2 I do care about - yea 2 freakin emails out of 117 🤦♂️
But what ever that's what outlook rules are for... except I actually have to glimpse over them all just in case something of mine broke.
Go get another coffee,
Start working through the days tickets - ok cool nothing major to worry about, let's get back to writing tests from yesterday.
Well fuck that was a bad decision, no matter what I do this little fucker won't pass, yet doing this process step by step, detail for detail, it works - no issues, but automate this fucker and it screams its head off.
So fine, I give up and go to lunch,
Come back... spend next 3 hours on this 1 problem... 1 FREAKING problem 🤦♂️🥴🤦♂️🥴🤦♂️
This thing has beaten me, and for no apparent reason - it just doesn't like running under a test scenario.
Would have given up hours ago, except its a vital piece of code I'm trying to cover 😑 of course it is.
Well somewhere in there I managed to do a deployment for another project and change a few things in there.
This week is starting to look like hell,
Yay hump day tomorrow!!!!!
That's something, the week is coming to an end.... right? Please.... right!!!7 -
For my fellow stuck at home Nintendo Switch owners: Ring Fit is legit af.
I am in good shape, but can honestly say that you will get a workout out of this bad boy AND by the time yo ass is feeling tired you will not notice it on account of the fun you will have.
Of course, not everyone will like it, shit, I know I didn't wanted to play it. But I did and I loved it.
I am Al, and I support Nintendo's agenda on getting switch owners jacked.11 -
Got 'em stickers woohoo! All the way from Philippines. Letter got wet in the rain but the stickers are in good condition. Thanks devRant!4

Yes, or no (and if you want to, why): Is a degree required in order to become a game developer?
I have my own opinion, but I want to see what the community thinks.22 -
Me: I should divide my project in small parts. It will be a piece of cake.
Also me: (on last day of submission) 76 commits in 34 minutes.

Learning to tech to speed up learning.
Using a new cooperative learning technique, AI Lab researchers cut by half the time it took a pair of robot agents to learn to maneuver to opposite sides of a virtual room.
A combination of deep learning and reinforcement learning algorithms are responsible for computers achieving dominance at challenging board games like chess and Go, a growing number of video games, including Ms. Pac-Man, and some card games, including poker. But for all the progress, computers still get stuck the closer a game resembles real life, with hidden information, multiple players, continuous play, and a mix of short and long-term rewards that make computing the optimal move hopelessly complex.

Finally got a project I’ve been working overtime on for the last 18 months or so ready for a 1.0 launch! Still some features we want to build in for down the line, but it’s nice to finally hit a meaningful milestone...

A really sad story of my cousin's carrier,
My cousin was a smarter guy in math during school grades but there comes his devil aunt and uncle during his high grades forcing him and his family members to go for biology in high school. They just want to use my cousin for their benefit, as they own many medical stores in the town they can use my cousin in future in their field. The uncle reached the school's principal and confirmed his admission in biology giving bribe.
Here where my cousin's carrier starts to demolish, as he was interested in math but he was forcefully admitted in biology class.
It was all ok till high school but further the uncle fought with family members misguiding them and took cousin's admission in pharmacy discipline in a university offering bribe. Here the min problems starts, As he is not interested in pharmacy he is failing in the exams and now he is under a great depression.
PS : The uncle ruined whole carrier of my cousin just for his future monetary benefits.12 -
And another weekend full of work, because I don‘t get shit done in the office.
Being kind if the lead dev in my team, everyone is coming to me for nearly everything and I rarely have time to work on my current ‚fulltime‘ project.
It‘s really frustrating. I just want to code .__. FML
(Maybe I should learn other programming languages and switch jobs? I always wanted to learn Haskell)2 -
So finally I could find a part-time job! Better yet, I'll be paid as a full time worker! It's a shame it isn't tech related, I'll be taking care of a small firm's finances. But hey, I got a small office that, as my employer told me, I can use outside of work, for whatever I want! It's been a good year so far!1

Jesus H. Christ. It really did happen! Just moved from vb6 to vb.net. My personal opinion, going with C#, was disregarded but im still happy to leave that abomination behind.
The sad part is that I have gotten pretty good with vb6 🍻 A drink to that!
PS. VB.net is supposed to be simple and readable but I disagree. C# Is way more readable and there is this elegance about the syntax. As a side project I am thinking of learning Go and make a simple cms. -
The whole class is approaching me to solve the assignment coding problems, in addition to it our professor is changing the way we code as i insisted him. I don't know if this is the result of my past sleepless nights.

Now, I didn't even really know Employee Appreciation Day was a thing until an article appeared on the company intranet about it coming up.
From Wikipedia:
"It is a day for companies to thank their employees for their hard work and effort throughout the year. This day was created for the purpose of strengthening the bond between employer and employee."
I thought, "Oh, cool. I wonder what they're doing for it."
You know what they did?
They encouraged us to use the internal eCard system to send each other notes of appreciation. "Let's break a record," they said. "Most eCards sent in one day!"
And that's it. That's how my employer showed their appreciation for me.
I feel so... appreciated?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
P.S. Yes, we broke the record.
P.P.S. No, I didn't get any eCards.4 -
It's a tradition, I guess (and these travelled here from the other side of the globe so it's something special ;) )

Dum di dum ... One more day of work, and then snowboarding all over dem pretty mountains... We came up with a theme, cokelympics, since it dumped loads and loads of snow...

I have found that when companies say or think that they do not have large amounts of data for using even the smallest bit of data acience analysis in terms of generating a model that can assist them that they do have data. No matter the size of the organization, the data is there.
LABELED data, well now that is a other story 🥴1 -
I have some free period of 20 to 25 days, so what should i learn in this gap so that it can be fruitful in future?
(Currently 2nd year CSE)

-framework
-something else...

Of course another one of my non Apple computers bit the dust for absolutely no other reason than time.
Sigh...this is why I prefer to keep my windows computers on the desktop level, custom level. -
What is your opinion on frameworks? Like materialize, semantic-ui, zend, bootstrap and so on? Just looking into them and I think they are quite nice for small projects for yourself.1

Insufficient for Dynamic Pages, Unpredictable Behavior Across Browsers
If you attempt to view the same website using three different browsers, you may be surprised to find that pages are sometimes displayed differently depending on whether you use Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Firefox.1 -
Start a task I thought would take 2 days. Start getting into it deep and wouldn't you know the amount of circular dependencies, data being passed by singleton's (not saved though) so you really have to search the codebase to find where that data is being set and get. A ton of classes that are base classes so they don't have the regular CMS getters and setters I'm used to.
I really thought this one was going to stump me.
But it took 4 days instead of 2 to sort through the mess.
It's finally finished. Happy Friday! -
If you could have devRant for one platform, or a tool for devRant. What would it be?
I'll work to get it done.6 -
My sister works in infosys on their banking product finacle, she wants to leave that job and pursue for ph.D is it worthy?2

Lil' update: so I never went to linux class and I had to learn it within a few days for my exam and I passed hehe2
-
So I encountered Python's PIL module, and started exploring it. Soon enough I built an ASCII art generator that takes an image as a parameter and returns a text output resembling the input image. :)
The github repo is here - https://github.com/rameshaditya/...
Do check it out and gimme feedback, and leave a star if you like it - it means a lot! :)3 -
Announcing to the group that the project is live, after publishing it is fun! It is like getting closure👀 from a project.
Although going live on a Friday is never a good idea. 😄1 -
So I finally got a client for my Django real estate platform.Meeting is tommorow.great thing is that the platform is built l just have to add requested features.wish me luck guys.i can probably score enough with this project to get me an lg ultrawide monitor.

Will get comments surely, but I'm happy that I could make a PR -
During my small tenure as the lead mobile developer for a logistics company I had to manage my stacks between native Android applications in Java and native apps in IOS.
Back then, swift was barely coming into version 3 and as such the transition was not trustworthy enough for me to discard Obj C. So I went with Obj C and kept my knowledge of Swift in the back. It was not difficult since I had always liked Obj C for some reason. The language was what made me click with pointers and understand them well enough to feel more comfortable with C as it was a strict superset from said language. It was enjoyable really and making apps for IOS made me appreciate the ecosystem that much better and realize the level of dedication that the engineering team at Apple used for their compilation protocols. It was my first exposure to ARC(Automatic Reference Counting) as a "form" of garbage collection per se. The tooling in particular was nice, normally with xcode you have a 50/50 chance of it being great or shit. For me it was a mixture of both really, but the number of crashes or unexpected behavior was FAR lesser than what I had in Android back when we still used eclipse and even when we started to use Android Studio.
Developing IOS apps was also what made me see why IOS apps have that distinctive shine and why their phones required less memory(RAM). It was a pleasant experience.
The whole ordeal also left me with a bad taste for Android development. Don't get me wrong, I love my Android phones. But I firmly believe that unless you pay top dollar for an android manufacturer such as Samsung, motorla or lg then you will have lag galore. And man.....everyone that would try to prove me wrong always had to make excuses later on(no, your $200_$300 dllr android device just didn't cut it my dude)
It really sucks sometimes for Android development. I want to know what Google got so wrong that they made the decisions they made in order to make people design other tools such as React Native, Cordova, Ionic, phonegapp, titanium, xamarin(which is shit imo) codename one and many others. With IOS i never considered going for something different than Native since the API just seemed so well designed and far superior to me from an architectural point of view.
Fast forward to 2018(almost 2019) adn Google had talks about flutter for a while and how they make it seem that they are fixing how they want people to design apps.
You see. I firmly believe that tech stacks work in 2 ways:
1 people love a stack so much they start to develop cool ADDITIONS to it(see the awesomeios repo) to expand on the standard libraries
2 people start to FIX a stack because the implementation is broken, lacking in functionality, hard to use by itself: see okhttp, legit all the Square libs, butterknife etc etc etc and etc
From this I can conclude 2 things: people love developing for IOS because the ecosystem is nice and dev friendly, and people like to develop for Android in spite of how Google manages their API. Seriously Android is a great OS and having apps that work awesomely in spite of how hard it is to create applications for said platform just shows a level of love and dedication that is unmatched.
This is why I find it hard, and even mean to call out on one product over the other. Despite the morals behind the 2 leading companies inferred from my post, the develpers are what makes the situation better or worse.
So just fuck it and develop and use for what you want.
Honorific mention to PHP and the php developer community which is a mixture of fixing and adding in spite of the ammount of hatred that such coolness gets from a lot of peeps :P
Oh and I got a couple of mobile contracts in the way, this is why I made this post.
And I still hate developing for Android even though I love Java.3 -
This person is forcing me to pursue in asset based income, what should i do? Truly speaking i dont know what asset based income is.5

WHY THE FUCK EVERY DAY YOU SEND A NOTE TO THE CLIENT TO TELL THEM A SQL SERVER JOB RAN.....!?!?!?!?!?!?

Me doing a complete design overhaul of my website and deciding not to make the background the horrid grey colour that I'd used since I taught myself.
Also Material UI and learning that I don't need everything to have all the whistles and bells when it goes out for use.
A.K.A my current CSS stylesheet & PHP is what I am hyped for!!
(Mainly because it looks good, and my homemade transaction processor works and has a cool UI.)
Yay, realisation, because I am looking forward to releasing it soon!!! -
So I'm starting a new job in April, which will be my first 100% dev job. When I interviewed in January, they said I would work as an in house resource, and would most likely start off working with CMS systems etc to ease myself into this role, before transitioning to more advanced work. I was asked to come in for a meeting today, to look at a potential project.
Long story short, I'm being tasked with rewriting a frontend for their biggest customer to Angular, and this would most likely span over a year or so.
I can't decide if I'm excited or hilariously scared.2 -
I don't understand why some people take computer science as their stream, while they don't know anything in it. Those majority people in most of the universities take computer science seeing other people's rush. In my University 70 % of the people even dont know the ABC of programming. These mad annoying people just ruin the merit list. 😠😠8

TfL's API sign ups didn't work, so screw them! I found Transport API and my (almost) clone of the Countdown displays seen in London is improving. The only problems I have now are showing offscreen departures (I can adopt the actual Countdown's way of doing this, or I can change the settings in the API request), and turtle making the program hang (info updates every 2 minutes).
Here's a screenshot of it - https://gyazo.com/183f9b7d5c5011909...
Also, my new coding buddy is a 256MB RAM stick! I got it out of an old PC (now thrown away, It had a QDI Platinix 2E motherboard too, a Nvidia video card, and a LAN card! Why'd you waste my stuff, mum!?).
Here's a specs page for it. I can say hi to my new buddy for you if you want! https://electrobyt.com/index.php/... -
So I opened devRant to find the new *bling* expressions feature added to the avatars.
So I set my expression to happy because nowadays, for some reason, even though work has been tough, I've liked it. And things have been good. Mostly because my lead is on holiday and the acting lead is a hundred times better than him in all aspects (micro management and as a Dev).
Cut to the evening when I'm walking home, the lead calls me up to inform me on a production bug that had to be taken up (acting lead had already asked me to look into it, we had an agreement). And I *HATE* the way he assigns tasks and acts like I'm a wee baby who can't even find his mother's tit.
Anyhoo, ended up changing my avatar expression to majorly fucking frustrated because of the Damn phone call.
So kudos to @dfox and @trogus to adding these little features which make people a bit more expressive! -
I want to buy a new laptop please suggest me the best one under 75k INR.
Do Ghz clockspeed in laptop really matters for developing purposes?15 -
Ahhhhh.... Now i want to really know how developers make softwares, ROMs, chatbots using ML and all these type of stuff.
- When i go through the guide for making ROM for a smartphone or a chatbot the writer asks the reader to take the code from github, everybody just give github link and move on. None tells how the developer wrote that bunch of code. I really want to learn core concepts behind all this. I know how to code but i can't apply it in real life applications. For me there is no bridge which connects coding to end products. I don't know what to do next?4 -
I am taking too long to think for final year cs project.
Thinking of autonomous mapping and exploration using UAVs
Any suggestions?2 -
I am a 1st Year CS student, should i complete atleast one intern this year? Or any CS topic or subject to pay more attention to?3
