Client: This works correctly, but I don’t like the code.
Me: What exactly do you not like?
Client: There are barely any lines of code. You need to add more to make it better.
I...I don’t know what to say.25 -
Procrastination is like masturbation: it feels good while you're doing it but you're only fucking yourself.
- I remember this every time, it doesn't help much but it does make me chuckle.12 -
I want a TV program like "Kitchen Nightmares" but with IT companies.
And with Linus Torvalds in place of Gordon Ramsey12 -
Évolution.. so basically I have tried to grow a beard but it was too annoying and too scratchy so I dropped.. like all those side projects I guess...7
-
Confession:
I actually like to code with JavaScript.
It's a terrible language, yes, but I find it fun to work with.17 -
friend: what are those lines on your screen
me: programming
friend: but like don't you program it
me: yeah but I have to write it
friend: but like don't you have to program the lines
That's when I quit trying to explain it5 -
other dev at work: "why cant i switch branch of my SVN repo like Git"
Me: "Cuz it uses different approach, different branches are at different locations......."
Him: "but how can i use it like Git"
Me: "you cant"
Him: "but why"
Me: "Get away from me before i throw something heavy at you"10 -
If you use a light theme for your IDE then...
I don’t, like, hate you.
But it don’t understand you.7 -
*burp* Me..Merry Christmas
I made a thing. It's called Claymore.
It's like lastPass, but with a bomb attached to it.
Its *burp* like, if you're like really paranoid about your passwords, you can just, you can just blow it all up.
Pro-Tip, if you run it on port 1337, it's extra sec-*burp*-ure.
Am I kidding? Maybe. I made this w/ booze, so.10 -
When everyone is complaining about how terrible JavaScript is and I'm just sitting there thinking "but... I like it.."9
-
When you see a comment like this in your codebase:
// I don't know what it does, but touching it will break it!4 -
Buying courses in Udemy (or similar), is like paying for a gym membership.
Sure there are some who actually use it. But the vast majority is like: "Now that I paid for this, I'm sure I'll get around to using it..."11 -
My team member just rewrote all of my code and it looks beautiful and it works but and now i feel like I'm a terrible programmer :'(13
-
I designed a (rough) wireframe in Balsamiq and showed it my manager for early feedback.
He was like - I really like it, but can we have some colours in it? It's more of a monochrome right now. Just black & white. FML11 -
Are there any other people out there who like JavaScript? It is my favorite language but I only see rants calling it a shitty language14
-
Been using Ubuntu for only like two months now but yesterday I discovered GNOME. So much better than Unity.
My reaction when I installed it:14 -
devRant is the only social media I like and use regularly.
It certainly has it faults, as any network of people will, but overall I think it provides a much needed conversation between like-minded people.3 -
Love it when my mom comes in my room and says “I know it doesn’t seem like it but your dad does love you”👌👌👌😔25
-
I honestly don't understand why some developers like to shit on other's preferences.
Don't like PHP? Fine, but don't give shit to somebody else for liking it or coding in it.
Not a fan of Javascript? That's cool, but do realize that there are people who enjoy coding with it and don't appreciate you talking shit about their preferences.
Don't like a certain framework? That's okay, but again, there are people who code with it so don't tell them that they shouldn't.35 -
I thought meditation was more like putting myself in “airplane mode”. But in reality it felt more like a DDoS attack!3

It makes me feel like a whore when looking for jobs.
I don't really wanna do it, but I'm in a situation where i have to do it to survive.6 -
— I heard you like programming and are quite good at it.
— Don't know about the latter but I do like it.
— Cool. Can you help me set up this Excel spreadsheet?
Actual conversation I had about two months ago...3 -
I just hate this shady Apple behavior 😡
They make it look like I’m out of storage, but I still have 20%+ free7 -
I like this one the most, it was a gift from a girl I had a unrequited crush with.
It was like: "hey I make stickers, you can have this one, but it's a little girly, do you mind?" and I was "(😍) of course I don't mind"2 -
I know posts like this one don`t belong here but I`m so super proud of it...
I`ve finally (after like 2 days) finished setting up my macbook-air-arch-linux-kde-plasma and this is what it looks like. If any of you is interested I can share some details about making certain things compatible with apple hardware.
Peace!21 -
I have really found something that I really like, and that is email servers.
I cant explain it but it is so satisfying14 -
I don't really drink alcohol, but every time I look at my (old) code, it looks like I was drunk when writing it.
-
The assignment needed me to implement a class that behaves like a vector<int>. I tried the obvious hack not expecting it to work, but surprisingly it did.7
-
Sitting in an introduction to C++ class (I've been programming for 5 years but every job wants to see a degree even if it means taking boring intro classes)
I see the professor write code like this....
First: Ever heard of break;
Second: I know it's not wrong to write it like this but ever heard of spaces!!!!!!!14 -
Just accidentally found out that double tapping a comment/post ++s it.
I feel like this feature has been a thing for a long time but I forgot about it2 -
I don't know if it is that I just hate xcode or if I'm just a noob at working with it, but it feels like this7
-
Client: I want my site to look exactly like the design.
Me: Of course, but I'm assuming you want it responsive...
Client: yes, I want it to look exactly like the design on all devices.
Me: but that's not how...
Project manager: of course the site will be fully responsive and look exactly the same on all devices.
Me: but...fine.
1 week later...
Project manager: The site looks horrible on mobile!
Me: it matches the design perfectly...3 -
MY LAPTOP just scared the shit out of me. It screamed words like a demon. I thought that I am hacked. But it was just a screen reader... I accidentally activated it or something while unlocking the lappy.2

I found out last week that I was passed up for a promotion not because I didn't deserve it but because I got one last year.
My manager asked to have me promoted. People on other teams wanted me promoted. HR did not.
I wasn't mad about it at the time but the more that I think about it the more it's getting me down. I've been pushing myself trying to prove that I would be good for the position and now I have lost all motivation and I hate it. I like where I am at and I like what I do but this has really killed it for me. I'm struggling to get anything done now.6 -
So, I thought it was all made up by blue hair weirdos, but it looks like the IT world is sexist after all15
-
this week started like shit, but today it seems like everything fell into place. the interns are working, the bs code i had to change works, i did more than i expected, plus i just cut my hair and it is cute as heck1
-
When someone asks me what is programming, I usually say:
— That's something like assembling Lego, but you also get paid for it.3 -
Got a coffee grinder from my grand parents. Pretty old school, but I like it!! 😍
Just brew a big cup of coffee. It just tast delecious. ❤8 -
Sometimes it feels like I'm not as passionate towards coding as I was before. Seeing bright-eyed juniors with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge makes me wish I could feel the same again. I mean I still like it and all, but it's just not the same.8
-
They call it “Personalization”, “Analytics” and “Customer Success Research”. But back in time when I was using Alcohol 120 and StarFuck just to play games we called it “Spyware”.
Like it’s only spyware when you do it, but when we do it it’s “Research”.3 -
Not really rubber, but he's my duck.
He's literally one year younger than me so it makes it quite special.
I really like him 😄6 -
I like dark themes but I really don't like it when the black of the desktop theme is clashing with a different shade of black in the program2
-
don't know if it's fake or not. I don't use twitter, but it looks like something that would happen there3

I spend this weekend working on this Game. It was a lot of frustration, but I learned a lot from it too.
I hope you like it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...
But now I’m ready to make something bigger, better, funnier (O_o)13 -
I like devRant because it's like 9gag, but with more relatable stuff, great community and I think that I learn a thing or two by being here. I love it :)
-
//TODO - I will probably never do anything about it but I will Put this thing here just to make myself feel like some day I will2
-
So I had an interview. Went well. But apparently while they liked me I didn't show passion for development.
Any tips on how to that? Cause like... I like it and all but who really can show passion for working for someone else.
Tips please. Or job opportunities!!!23 -
Regular expressions. I know it's not a tool but damn me if I haven't used it like one. Especially regexr.com1
-
I like how Google basically kicked itself...
So foobar, seems Copy is disabled now.
But I just discovered that in Chrome, I can drag the highlighted text out of it to copy it.13 -
I actually like light themes. Especially on bright days, they're a life saver, but... what the fuck.
I hear white noise when I look at it.2 -
I think javascript is a great language, but it has some really ugly parts.
For some reason, it really annoys me that JS developers are ok with things like
if (typeof something === "undefined")
I mean, comparing strings like that!3 -
Twenty years.
For twenty years I've used vim almost exclusively, and only now have I learned about buffers and registers. It feels like wasted years, but also it feels like a gift.6 -
Holy moved notifications, Batman! I like it, but boy was I confused when my hamburger didn't have lettuce on it.2
-
It doesn't happen very often when I get to publish my side project, but this time is a charm!
Here is something I hacked together and will probably break but give it a try, you might like it😉

I hate it when recruiters write something like "I now that you don’t like recruiters, but maybe you like this offer."
WHEN YOU KNOW I DON'T LIKE YOU THEN JUST STOP TALKING TO ME!2 -
You know what really pisses me off?
Arrogant/Condescending people doing rookie mistakes.
If you are like that but delivers I suck it up and let it go, but if you don't? Lol... Be ready for the shitstorm.1 -
I have a confession. I have always used IDLE because I love it. It's slow, lacks a number of features, and is just all-around outdated.
So today I went and I got rid of it. I tried PyCharm in the past but it was too complicated for Python. I like JetBrain's IDE for Java, but not for Python. Instead, this time, I opted for Spyder. I tend to get quite excited about new IDEs, and I do like this one a fair bit. The editor offers a dark theme but the UI surrounding it does not. This is offensive, but acceptable, for the time being. Here's a screenshot. Any thoughts?15 -
Sometimes I would like to rank the intensity of my likes/upvotes/++'es (depending on what social media I'm using). I know this would make things extra complicated and it would be a bad idea. But sometimes I upvote something because I agree with a statement or I just like the post, but sometimes a post makes me feel so understood or it makes me laugh for 3min straight and that makes me want to upvote it 3 times as much as the others. But I guess that's where the favourite function comes into play3
-
I am scared... I'm scared because the code works.. but it shouldn't work I mean it's not supposed to get triggered and I have no idea what triggers it. It feels like my program got cursed and started doing things on it's own. I even put up blocks to stop the function from triggering but it still works... It always works.. I am scared...7
-
So I installed Nougat yesterday on my OPO as some apps n Google seem to not like CM 13...
It runs so fast and smooth... Not sure why but kinda feels like I got a new phone 😄😄
Wonder what it'll be like if I ever get to upgrade to Oreo... 🤔🤔🤔🤔
And it seems it likes attracting cats14 -
this is cool, I just added a phone and a coffee on my avatar. I can add more thongs but I like t keep it minimal and clean13
-
I hate the term "full stack" as it sounds like uneducated recruiter speak, but then can't think of anything better.9
-
So... Today I started using my first Python web framework, web2py. At a first glance I liked it, the templating system, the view/controller thing ecc. But there is one thing in frameworks that I really don't like: they make me feel dumb.
I mean, in just one line of code I can generate an entire form, but if I wanna customize it a little bit... I can't. Or better, it is very hard, also if there is a bug, I have to look for a problem in an entire system that I DID NOT wrote.
I don't like the idea that the frameworksl handles everything for you, like it is teasing me, I don't even know how it works, it just works, and man, I don't like it. There's some kind of hacker in me, I dont like a system that just works, I want to know how it works. But the sad thing is that I will have to learn web frameworks if I want to work in the IT, right? Please If you can help me or share your experience with web frameworks do so.3 -
The piece of software I'm working on at my job just feels fucking stupid and brainless right now. I know it is not, I know it's working, I know it'll be actually useful to its users but I don't feel like that.
I usually go by telling myself "Most of the time I do like what I do, but sometimes it's just work that has to be done" - but for the last month or so it felt like my motivation is completly drained and not coming back fast enough. Just thinking about it feels like desperate, tired crawling on Legos.
On the other hand, at least I've got some motivation for my studies back which feels great. -
I'm not sure why but I don't seem to like latex. Maybe I could get into it but it just feels weird.10
-
Man it always feels like i know nothing. Like when you don't know HTML it feels like you know nothing .
Then you learn js, backend, some database.
But you don't know react so fuck you you know nothing.
Then you learn react, but you don't know vite, next
So you know nothing.
this cycle never ends
FUCK8 -
Am I weird for not liking Whiskey?
It just kinda tastes... bad. Everybody is taking about notes of vanilla, undertones of strawberry, BITCH where. It tastes like weird with alcohol. And the alcohol part isn't really the problem. I'd much rather drink straight up vodka. Yes it tastes like drain cleaner but at least it doesn't have this weird ass taste to it. I actually quite like vodka. I just don't get whiskey17 -
I work with J2EE every day, especially Spring and Spring Boot.
I like it very much but when I am home I love tinkering with C++ (even tough I am a beginner in this language).
Is anyone else like this? It's like C++ has a misterious charm for me, not sure why. I also enjoy haskell and erlang, but keep at getting back at C++.7 -
My girlfriend comes in and sees me on devrant.
GF: "What is that app? I see you using it all the time. Is it like an endless blog with updates?"
Me: "It's kinda like facebook. But for developers. And you don't have any friends".
GF: "That seems like a sad app"
Credit: i am programmer, i have no life (fb page )7 -
youtube's autoplay algorithm has made me discover some interesting gems on the internet.
but fucking damn it if it doesn't like to replay the same 15 songs you like. every fucking time.
like you know I like this band. SHOW ME OTHER SONGS OF THIS BAND GOD FUCKING DAMMIT. I KNOW I LIKE THESE 5 SONGS ALREADY.4 -
I really like to use PHP. It's not so interesting language as C# is, but I like it. But every now and them I read someone complaining about PHP.
So let's go: as PHP is not an exactly good language to backend, what would be a good one to use with my personal projects?
Thanks!17 -
At first it seemed harsh, but then I learned that he committed code like
if (a == b)
return true;
else
return false;9 -
I’ve been debugging all day. I finally nailed it down to the final error message but then when I fix it ALL THR OTHERS CAME BACK LIKE ON SOME NECROMANCY BULLSHIT.
-
Started a new job recently and feel like I don't know anything compared to everyone else, only got a years commercial experience but feel like I should know more! Anybody else ever feel like this when they were starting out? How do you overcome it?6
-
I know that this will bring me many new enemy's but I'll just say it.
I like Mercurial more than Git.4 -
I always hated laravel, i was like mehhh you dumb fucks lazy ass write your code, but i gotta admit i changed my mind when i tried it!3
-
Replaced battery in my phone but during the process I broke cable to front camera.
Looks like it’s time to also replace front camera.
I am impressed it works without it.5 -
"I want you to make a font, it needs to be heavy, but not too heavy. Like it should be able to float on water. So, bold enough to get a person's attention but not screaming"
...ok2 -
I think VS code is the only product from Microsoft which is not broken like I'm writing in it and it feels good. Extensions are great, integration with git is also really good and debuger isn't complete bullshit. I had Sublime before but I switched it to VS code just to try it and I'm keeping it.
I know it isn't lightweight like other editors but fuck it... VS code is great
What are you using to code?3 -
Like to use devrant on company system too.. but my fucking new place just in front of manager. It seems like whole galaxy is sitting behind me to watch what I do :|3
-
Bad dev habit…
I am still learning like super fresh —
Second week of class.
But I am also looking at things and getting overwhelmed because I’m like idk wth that is.
But when I end up learning it —
I’m like ohhhh!!
I just overthink everything !!!8 -
!Rant
Looking at various Devs & non-devs like myself, ranting, posting meme's [my bad];
I realised why we keep coming back. Nope not because of the notifications, but because devRant feels like home dare I say it, it feels like family.
Thank you @dfox @trogus & the other creators who aren't that famous [my bad I don't remember your names].
Thank you.5 -
Since I bought my laptop the screen was scaled to 125% (1080p display) so that it looks like a ~768p display.
I like it, it looks good, but now I'm trying it at 100% scaling (15" screen).
Yes, everything looks so small now, and my eyes cried for the first 10 minutes, but I'm starting to like it.
Do you have any similar experience? What do you prefer, 100%, 125% or something else? Why?16 -
got this cool protein powder thing and it tastes like chocolate when I mixed it with some milk yesterday
figured it's like hot chocolate but makes you feel awesome!
put powder in a cup and filled it with hot water today
this was a mistake.
turns out protein clumps under heat. it tasted so gross. I threw it out.
I thought I was so smart12 -
I decided to start learning about hadoop... I found a great, free tutorial, but it expects me to know python. ...well it looks like I'm learning two things at once.2
-
Looks like I got dislike-banned as well... eventhough I only used it where appropriate.
I understand that our almighty gods dfox and trogus implemented this to fight bots and mischievous downvote cunts, but why not inform the user affected by it?
I fucking hate these silent bans, just like Twatter and YouTwat do it... you feel like you posted something but in reality it disappears and you're not even aware of it.
Man, nowadays a lot of people behave like bots thus I can't blame The Algorithm™...3 -
I need to get this out there because you guys and gals are honestly the only people I can vent this to.
I’m working on a program for fun that’ll transfer files over sockets. Nothing too special. But this project is just boring me. I’m not getting any motivation even when I’m getting started. Which didn’t happen last project.
I have a general idea how I’m going to do it but I just can’t sit down and do it because I start overthinking about everything. Like how am I going to do this or that. How am I going to handle feature a, feature b, etc. And I’m just getting a headache and I’m not writing code and I’m JUST FUCKING STARING LIKE AN IDIOT. I don’t even know why it’s not inspiring me because I’ve always wanted to program a file transferring application of some kind and I still do.
I keep doing a bunch of small patches when I work on it and they work and improve it but I am hard on myself because it’s not one big feature or I didn’t work on it for hours. I’m always so fucking hard on myself fuck.
I want to do so much other stuff but I just wanna tough it on through and finish but it’s so uninspired because I don’t even feel like what the final product will feel like others. Like any service that involves transferring files I feel like they don’t function like how I’m thinking they do like I’m trying to make this function.
I feel like everything I’m making is just subpar and not good and I’m trying and I’m trying to improve but I feel like I’m not getting anywhere. And I want to learn a lot of stuff I have shit planned but I can’t get to it because I have to go through uninspired bullshit hell.
Idk14 -
I get it. Hooks prevent code repetition. But personally I hate them. I don’t know why. I just don’t like writing them. Maybe it’s because I like writing “this”. Weird, right?3
-
Does anyone actually use ZorinOS as a daily driver?
I've read reviews and they call it a "gorgeous" distro... It looks like a colour pallette swap of android 4.0 and I hate to say this to them but adding wine to your distro does not make it "windows compatible"...
I like the idea of ZorinOS but the execution is just horrible imho7 -
Does anyone really like JavaScript as a language?
I mean i like working with it because you can build a lot of creative and cool stuff with it, but i find the language itself to be hacky, wierd and too complex.17 -
C++ rant, but I'm sure it is similar in other languages.
I cannot stand +=,-=; I understand it is shorter, but for some reason I would prefer seeing: sum = sum + 1; or the like. Am I just too much of a newb to appreciate it, or is it just preference.13 -
!rant
What direction would you guys like to see devRant going in. I personally like it as it is, a place where developers can rant, share jokes (but not memes), share their thoughts, etc etc. But I know some people want it to go in more of a SO direction, where it's just another serious questions board. What do you guys think?11 -
All right, I switched to Visual Studio Code from Sublime Text 3 and I really like it so far. But I have spent an hour looking for a solution to hide this annoying tab bar. I have already disabled tabs but it still shows this bar with filename on it.12
-
I hate it when people use like 7 "if" statements instead of like.. 2? And when they do not nest "if"s.
For ex. :
if(condition1 && condition2){
}
if(condition1 && condition3){
}
.....
" But I am writing it out longer to understand better! "
Yet it eventually stays that way with like 50 lines of "if"s..1 -
Trying out VSCode, and... I'm trying to like it, but I just don't. There are certainly nice features that I like, but there's also so much I find inconvenient. Microsoft's design principles and all...3
-
So what exactly is it like working as a developer?
I'm still in the learning phase but I can't seem to picture what exactly it is you'll be doing daily if you get hired.
Is it like constant coding? But like, the site is already made and is huge.
Or is it like making new stuff? But then like, there's already a big company site.
It's what I wanna do but I honestly can't imagine how it will work different from doing it for yourself7 -
I like many things the rust language does but my god sometimes it looks just horrendously ugly and is awful to read23
-
So I’m working on this project I’ve been working on for like 3 weeks and I finally got this feature to work but it had a bug and I shit you not fighting this program was like playing through bloodborne for the first time again. It got to the point where I started naming the testing files swear words or stuff like “itshopeless”, “maybe”, “maybe2”, “pls”, etc but I finally after fucking hours passed, bug slaughtered. And I’m now exhausted
-
https://devrant.com/rants/5155862/...
Alright! I take it back. I don’t like “this”. Hooks are better. But are they the best? We will see.
Namaste.3 -
I've got this Acer laptop and I haven't really bothered before. But tf does this key do?
It seems to function like the right click but sometimes goes haywire.5 -
Am I the only one who doesn't like NoSQL? I really like relational databases.
If I cannot see the light then convince me to like NoSQL. But I think I will be forced to learn it because some companies use NoSQL. Also tech stacks like MERN, MEAN, etc.38 -
Is angular 1x still a thing? I feel like it's a really good front end framework but it's it used widely today?7
-
Aye, I almost fight with everybody at work(they always think it is funny). I'm not good at listening to others when it comes to dev convo (like related to coding or some logic stuff).
So it is like someone is explaining to me that this should be like this and in between, I ask 100questions like "why like this? why not like this?","but what if I just skip it?" etc
and they always go like, "Someone is going to kill you so badly".
That's it. -
I created an undefined rant. And it never received any attention. I shouldn't be surprised, but I'm a little surprised. Kinda cool. I could create entirely public but unnoticeable rants.
Kind of like my life
/s8 -
I don't like laptops, it just doesn't feel the same, too small, keyboard is meh I dunno... I like when the screen is in eye level but keyboard is lower.
Is it just me?
PC with 2/3 displays feels more natural to me.2 -
I feel like I have to put my personal project on hold because I have to study for exams, but I don't want to stop working on it.
FUCK1 -
Not a rant just a question, can I change my profile name? I like my name and all but I didn't think about anonymity when I created it.7
-
I really want to like Fedora, but it feels like they're trying too hard while also not trying hard enough...1
-
I don't like it when guys use emojis when chatting with me. I find it weird.
But when girls do it, I like it. It's hot.🔥9 -
I love Laravel, I really do... but it does make me feel like pulling my hair out quite a few times daily.5
-
I know people like to rant about Apple removing ports, but it was a great day for a great cable standard yesterday!1
-
I need a new hobby. Programming doesn't excite me anymore, at least not how it did a couple of years back. I'd like to get into robotics and stuff, but everything's expensive where I live. I'd like to get into cars, also too expensive where I live. I like playing video games, but I suck at them and they bring me no feeling of having accomplished something. Sports? Suck at them too. I'd like to ski, but I live in South America. I just don't know what to do with my free time. Programming feels like a chore nowadays, but it's all I have.32
-
Your code is like your face! Looking at it often it makes me laugh... But sometimes I just want to punch the shit out of it!1
-
I wonder why it is possible to like/upvote your own post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,...
but not on DevRant...? 🤔8 -
I like being diverse in what I can program. I like software development, web development, networking programming, I’m starting to get into embedding programming and using lower level languages like C/C++ (I’ve used them before but not for anything practical) and I enjoy the diversity. It makes me feel good knowing I can extend my programming knowledge.
Also I like having project ideas lined up so I know what I want to do next. And if I don’t finish one I know is easy but I can’t figure out, I CANT MOVE ON! I have to finish it. It’ll drive me fucking nuts.11 -
People might like it. People might love it. People might wanna kiss it. People might wanna share bed with it.
But I just don't feel it. -
So I'm pretty sure that when I went all in to Apple's Siri shitfest and turned on "Hey, Siri" that I had to accept some kind of privacy notice or some shit. Essentially, being an iPhone user and turning on that service, I've agreed to allow them to listen to me.
But what about the guy who sits next to me? Are his rights to privacy being infringed because my phone can also hear him? If so, who is the one infringing? Me or Apple?
Apple is just an example, but imagine if someone has an Echo in an office or a Google Home. Or what if you're unknowingly standing next to someone with a Google or Apple device that's always listening?
I know my old Android phone had picked up people at the grocery store before. I never turned on "Ok Google" but I used the speech to text of the keyboard a few times. When people showed how you could go see what Google had "heard", I was surprised to find how many OTHER people it picked up.
Anyway, just some thinking. -
I have a colleague who keeps hitting ctrl+S when he's not writing any code. I hit it like twice or thrice myself, but he just keeps at it. Drives me crazy in a fun way. I tried asking him about it, but he just shrugs like it's nothing.10
-
I used speech recognition package of python in one of my projects. It is working properly but it is not recognising some words, like if I say my name so it will print something else, printing 2 as doose, 1 as drone. To sum up, it's not considering few words.
I tried some amendments like set the language to english-india.
language =en-IN
But after this also, same problem arose.12 -
There's a package from GitHub I want to use in my filament project, but it is badly maintained and not compatible anymore.
I would like to upgrade it myself, but how do I do this? Do I have to create a fork?
What is the recommendation on this situation?7 -
Do devranters think that Reason(ML) is too late to the game to compete against TypeScript...or can it ride React success to become more than a niche?
Personally I like it, but, like with F#, I don't enjoying the lack of resources every time I need to get something done.7 -
Ok I love JavaScript but this is enough.
I know selectors like these shouldn't exist, but double escaping? Hell no! I didn't even know it was a thing! I wonder what's the highest level of n escaping there is out there.6 -
So i ranted about how bad the snapchat app was in terms of design and performance a few days ago here and at a couple of other places and the general conscience was that I should use it for a few days and i would like it.
Well, here's what i have to say. IT STILL SUCKS!
I tried to use it every day to keep up with what others are doing and sometimes try to post but i really don't like his bad the app is. It doesn't make me want to use it. Its a battery hog. It fucking drinks through my battery like nobody's business. The v10 update made it a bit better but it still sucks.
I still don't like the UX design but I have come to hate it less. It still sucks though.
I still don't like that there isn't a proper way to discover people. The "discover" tab is just paid advertisement.5 -
wow, to think about it , I have not been really 'excited' about stuff for last few years...
Now its like yeah, this is all a rat race...gotta learn this , learn that ,learn everything...but not really excited about it..Maybe feel like a thug-life boss if I get paid or recognised for my work...
However this is a race I am happy to run in,I like coding, like nerdy/smart tech jokes , like learning new stuff, and like my programming life.
A day without opening my laptop is really a day I feel sad but not the other way round. -
I was always fascinated by Silicon Valley(the real place), it seemed like a dream workplace. But ever since I've watched Silicon Valley(the show), I have lost my faith in the place. I used to be amazed by the big people in tech, but now all that's left is skepticism.
Is it really like that in real?4 -
I really like Julias typesystem, but method dispatch makes it easy to accidentally match against methods you didn't intend.2

I kind of don’t like OOP. There I said it.
Don’t get me wrong there are times I like using it. I don’t mind some of the features but I can rarely find times I want to use them.
It can be useful depending on the project but I mostly don’t use it and when I’m using Python I always feel like I have to? I know Python offers multiple types paradigms of programming to use but everyone’s making a big deal about OOP and I can rarely ever find uses for it. What I said for Python also goes for C++ I feel like I’m forced to do it. And I especially hate it in C++ fuck that.
I’d just like to use Python, and C++ without using it or if I do not have to use all the fancy features. And kinda wish Java and C# didn’t force OOP on you but I just don’t use all the fancy features in those languages (I don’t even use java but I’m mostly talking about C# for that one).
It’s not that I don’t know how to use it it’s that I can never find a use for any of the features or just don’t want to actually do it. Personally I only really see it shining in Game development, GUI development, and MAYBE network programming??
By all means I’m not trying to flame on OOP, I just wanted to throw my OOPinion (HA) on the matter. in fact you can tell me why you like it or dislike it. I’d like to discuss the topic with anyone.9 -
I tried mate!
I'm not sure if I like it that much!
@darksideofyay got me into mate tea and I just had to try it for some unknown reason.
I didn't get the pot and bombilla because that seemed unnecessarily expensive for a tea I had not tried.
I got the tea leaves, brewed them like green tea and it didn't work at all. The flavour was lacking and it was a letdown.
But I knew I was drinking it wrong. I needed bombilla. But hold on, @darksideofyay was brewing her toasted mate like tea. So I toasted a handful of leaves and brewed it.
And yay! I like that thicc tobacco aroma. The taste profile is better than green tea but nowhere near the black teas. All in all I'm convinced I need to try it with bombilla.
Fun times.30 -
I speak c# like I speak Spanish. It works and I get by, but it ain't pretty.

Hey, I want to name a library of mine something like "San'stools" So it's like "the tools from San" but it can also be "San's stools".
I looked up if stools meant what I thought it meant, little seat stuff, but apparently it's also dump...
Would it be too disgusting? Should I use another name?
How often is the word stool used to refer to... you know...?6 -
"I don't know about changing that part of the platform"
-"Do you see any other way?"
"No, but this one is pretty complex"
-"Would you like me not to do it?"
"No, but like, really test it, OK? It's a very complex part of the platform"
-"Would you like me to include the phrase 'this was really fucking complex' in the release documentation?"
Sometimes I think my boss is against coding :/ -

Fucking sick. Hate this shit. But I slept a bunch today so I'm better than I was before.
Also for the past few days I've been playing Factorio cause my brother got me into it. I actually really like it. I like that it's more involved than games like Civilization. (Plus it's on Linux with pretty damn good support ya know)1 -
i want to hone my skills by starting to work on a new project but it feels like i have writers block (coders block??) ugh

I like the idea of it but for tech support this won’t work. Ugh I just wish they could make a GUID for every NVR model.

How I really feel like after first day with the new interns...
PS: sorry if it has been posted before, but could not help it. -
Is it odd, as a primarily Web developer, I don't like to be called programmer?
It's not what I see myself as, but colleagues do1 -
Play Picross.
...Pretty much that's how I come up with the "bright" idea of making a generator for it. It works but it generates valid hard-to-solve maps (I like randomized Picross but my script's is...hurrgghh....)2 -
I started learning programming in college. I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do but it sounded like I would enjoy it. And I was right!

Why is everyone into big data? I like mostly all kind of technology (programming, Linux, security...) But I can't get myself to like big data /ML /AI. I get that it's usefulness is abundant, but how is it fascinating?6

MEAN Stack - a very big steep learning curve but I like it.1 -

Thinking about perhaps doing a Linux From Scratch. Never done anything like it but feels like it would be a good way to learn more about how Linux actually works. Do you think it's a good idea for someone like me with an ok understanding of Linux but only on a "user level", or should I start somewhere else?9

I'd like to take a moment to appreciate how much I've needed something like devRant.

Emacs.
I dunno why but I feel at home while using Emacs. It is like, it provides everything I need.1 -
I feel like half the time I spend doing Python is fixing forgotten colons.

I want to like you Python, but you make it difficult :(1 -
So i have been playing around with Golang for about a week now and like it in some regards but it feels almost too primative to me like it's holding my hand.

I'd like to learn go while building a web backend. but I'm not how should I start it. I mean, should I use any framework?
I'd like to use MongoDB, so a mongoose like ORM/library would be awesome8 -
I don't know why but here, in iran, everybody use Hungarian notation? Like strName or txtFirstName.

I love FP for sure, but it kind of looks weird in PHP. Tough I realy like the desgin of this website.

I use documentation to develop a connection to a feature (connection that was said to be done, but whatever.)
There is an example in the documentation of implementation.
But that example is, like I like to say, bullshit-esque.
In the implementation, the code doesn't work, and there is another way of implenting that connection. But the thing is, it uses a variable that was never declared in the example, neither in the full page. They just made it pop-up from nowhere like a deus ex machina.
Gimme a table so I can flip it.3 -
I know am saying this for the ‘n’th time, but...
FUCK ANDROID STUDIO it’s a fucking pile of crap I hate it, after ‘n’ number of years you’d think it will run smoother after This update and that update but It has to pile up its shit on the processor and drag it like painfully in a primitive manner like a dying old tortoise, ..not even making sense. Fuck this.4 -
I really wanna use sublime because it's super snappy but I can't use it without having a shit tonne of inconvenience. It has no property package Implementing something like intellisense. Vscode has that but it makes me feel really slow3

Anyone here has installed Ubuntu alongside Windows 10 with UEFI? Did you find any problems?
I have installed other distros on the past, but in computers with the old BIOS so it wasn't much problem.
But now I will be installing it on my laptop, which I use for work so I would like something reliable. Personally I prefer Arch, but on the desktop.
I know there are endless tutorials and videos on internet, but I would like to hear some people's hands on experience.
Thanks :)21 -
So, a year ago we started to learn java at school. Since I have started learning java I hated it. I don't know why, but I absolutely don't like java. Do you guys agree? I want to like java, but I have no reasons why, anyone has some tips?5

I just found a Diplo dj set from a country music festival where it was like 65-75% country music, and I gotta say it's not actually that bad. I mean I like edm and country, but I'd never guess mixing the two could actually work as well as it did12

When I discovered the usage of (statement) ? : after two years in programming school, I feel like an explorer landing on a new continent.
It looks so much more like the cool hacker code from television. I can use it as a parameter for function calls.. and everywhere else.
But it makes my code unreadable.
But it's new and fancy.
But unreadable..
What should I do?3 -
I remember being a TA for an intermediate java class. I tried helping as many people as I could, but some of them were doomed. Their code looked like it was written by Satan himself. I would try explaining why their code was bad, but it was like speaking another language (no pun intended). It was also the first class where people needed to use git... I don't need any more explanation there.3

Day one of my first big project.
It felt weird but a little easy to grasp discord.py but I felt like I was just copying people as I read or watched tutorials on how to use things and how they work and while I was getting started In general. But I got the dice function working great. I had an error but I fixed it.
After I got it working I uploaded it to my friends server and they messed around with it and it felt so great because they were enjoying it and complimenting me and I’m not even done with it :)
I’m learning a lot but I’m also struggling with certain areas like finding good documentation or feeling like I’m just copying.. but I’m gonna keep doing these update things because I feel cool and official as I write these :^) -
Yeah, I have some friends, but none of them appreciates Yeoman like I do.

It was making me anxious that I was the only one doing a PhD among my close friends. I actually was feeling like I'm not good enough for it, because those around me didn't feel like they're good enough for it. (ridiculous, I know. But it is what it is)
And then, one of my bestfriends went for her PhD. Her situation is complicated, so she actually didn't have much of a choice. But now I am motivated and feel like I might actually be able to do it. 🙂 Mainly because now I can at least ask someone close when I have stupid questions. 😁
It is starting to feel like less of an strange idea, and more like proper work. 😁1 -
i'm starting to like reactjs over vanilla, but i can't help but remember how it suffers on npm's dependency hell. i mean just look at what happened before at left-pad. it makes you feel like the entire system is so fragile.3

Why is perl soo notorious? and why do people hate it. Like I'm a networking guy and sys admin and I like to write scripts and it's really handy. Though it annoys sometimes but it still helps.5

I know devrant is not the place to ask this but I didn't know what else to do....I very often have doubts about weather I like programming or not even when I started learning programming 2 years ago...Does this imply that I don't really like it? What have you suggested at work which sounded like a good idea at the time, but now sounds like a nightmare?
I inherited a nasty old legacy c# desktop app a few years ago, I was a sql developer so it was a steep learning curve, but I’ve tried to make it better, fixing things as I go.
I had the bright idea of mentioning that I would look at starting to add unit tests etc.
It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I’m not so sure.3 -

I'm currently trying to convert parts of my dev environment to use containers. But following tutorials on it confuses me and I get lost with it really quickly and get discouraged for a few days until I give it another try and fail again

It irks me dearly when people look up to me and then copy me. I feel like they're doing it just because I'm doing it and they like it, but whether it's actually something good for them doesn't really matter. Kind of like using a coding paradigm because it's "cool", but it actually makes the code in your case hard to follow, inefficient and suboptimal.
I'm talking about life in general, but in coding as well.
Does this irk you guys as well?1 -

I make multivariant stacks with vagrant, shell script loaded as stated in yaml config and every bit and piece done from there the only times it disapointed me was the first time i lost it and when i got asked to make it tomcat compatible, not that the person really needed tomcat but just because i called it a stack initialiser it must have tomcat support. -

So I wasnt liking Kivy so I decided to get PyQt5 and I'm liking it but I feel like some of the studios widgets take a lot of programming out of the process and I feel like I'm cheating idk but it makes it a lot easier

Sometimes I just feel like voice chatting/chatting with some random folks but I can't ever find a forum to do it3

I don't like coding, but this machine is too stupid to read from my brain. So I have to type to make it so what I want.

I use Neovim. I just like it in a way I never quite liked VSCode, PyCharm or any other editor I ever used, but couldn't say why.
Oh and also I kinda feel like I have a superpower because I know how to exit it.2 -

For freelance devs based in the Uk. How much does it cost to build an web app like checkatrade?. I have a potential client who wants something like that but i dont want to sell myself short. -
I don't know why, but even though I have years of experience doing agile both in school and at work, I seem to have a hard time adjusting to the agile work method because I always seem to want to do waterfall.
I don't like the stress of having to rush out a product, nor do I like working on an unknown piece of software (framework/library) without knowing it fully; it just itches me and I get obsessive.
I don't like creating just a piece of functionality and rush it out the door, but I rather like doing it in an R&D type way where I get years to finish a product that I slowly work on, like a modern-age philosopher and scientist.
I know there are companies out there that have this approach, but sadly most of them are agile 'cause they all wanna be cool.. LoL
I'm an old mind in a modern world..2 -

So... I like 30 seconds of code! And I like the idea of it tbh, I was thinking about something like before.
The question is, how bad will it be if I do a similar website but in my native language? 🤔
I don’t want to be a copycat .. but its really good idea for sharing knowledge and to help other programmers. -
Seems like sequelize doesn't support delete join queries. I keep missing all those things I took for granted on my previous stack.
But it's too late for me, it's gonna be node and I'm gonna like it. -
I feel like I am not good enough when it comes to Dev interviews but I code pretty okay for a beginner/intermediate..I have developed an app which works almost end to end but I fail most of the interviews.1
