Joker: If you are good at something don’t do it for free
Me: (thinking) How much shall I charge to introduce bugs into someone’s code? 🤣3
I have what seems to be an unpopular opinion about buying software as a software developer.
First off, I support open source all the way. There should always be free and open tools for people to use if the need or want to.
Second, if you underpaid, broke, unemployed, or a student then this doesn’t apply to you. You keep pushing forward!
With that said, let’s get to the meat of it all...
I pay for good software. Even when it is expensive. Even when there are “workable” free or open source solutions.
I do this for a number of reasons...
1. They are better, hands down.
(Tower > GitKraken, SourceTree, GitHub Desktop) (Kalidascope > every other diff tool) (JetBrains IDEs > Atom, Brackets ...)
2. I’m no longer a broke student. I make enough money to buy them.
3. Most important: I’m a fucking professional software developer, not a fucking joker.
- If I was a carpenter then I could always hammer nails with the back of my work boot. It’s free and paid for and will do the job. Instead I would buy a good hammer because I’d be a professional and not a fucking joker complaining about the price of the tools to do my job.
4. I use a Mac, sometimes Linux and NEVER Windows. Which means I have a platform that actually has useful apps built for developers who are willing to pay for it.
5. I don’t get caught up in developer circle jerks about how all development software should be open source and free.
So there you go.
Does this offend you?
Come at me bro23
Here's how my day is going:
NameError: uninitialized constant Access::MerchantsController
Girlfriend asked me to take the spider out instead of killing it, i did! Really nice guy, bought me a beer and told me all about how he wanted to be a webdesigner 😏1
I tried to tailor two best things together for a wallpaper.
I used paint to do it, Did not have space to install PS
I see more jAsEd* rants again.
* a jAsEd rant is a rant which is doomed by multi-jAsE comments.9
Our UX guys have all congregated in a conference room and are practicing their joker laughs.
I'm slightly worried.
Looking back on my Christmas holidays while waiting for my train to come.
I wrote my last exam on the 22, took the train home on 23, spent Christmas and the 25 with my family, searched for a new apartment for 3 days, had two days left to do an assignment due to the 30, was packing till 3 in the morning today and will have my first day of work tomorrow. (Yeah, I spend new year's Eve home alone and completely sober...)
I wonder when I will have an entire meltdown and become some Joker level psychopath... Also happy new year everybody 😁6
Being told code is "production ready" only to find this:
if name == 'foo' or name == 'bar' or name == 'someothershit'
What's wrong with:
if name in ['foo','bar', 'someothershit']?
Oh and they had 10 different values they were matching, not just 3. What kind of joker am I dealing with?1
Damn! Linux is so violent
-bash: love: not found
-bash: happiness: not found
-bash: peace: not found
-bash: you need to specify whom to kill2
About half an year ago, I literally fought with my DS teacher for half an hour in front of whole class,
That dude couldn't saw the infinite while loop on his BINARY SEARCH algo hand written on board...
I mean come on dude, binary search is one of the simplest algo, and he didn't agreed with me until he dry run his written code(PS: the only thing I liked about him...HE KNOWS HOW TO DRY RUN)....
Scariest part: He was supposed to teach us trees and graphs in about a month
And it was my first day in that class
