Be me.
Be making webpage for local osu! tournament.
Assume you are doing it for free.
Get told to ask for payment.
Tell the client the price(with >45% discount) that is getting really close to your hourly wage.
Get told that it is too much to ask for that webpage.
Ask client to propose a price that he is willing to pay.
Never hear back drom the client.
I just don't get it... Why are people expecting that webpages are cheap? I mean, 6-7 years of experience are worth something, right? I also have to pay rent, buy food and components for my PC that break while working...3 -
- Master C# and contribute to osu!lazer
- Get a girlfriend (preferably programmer as well)
- Own a gaming rig
- Get a cat
- Survive National Graduation/University Admission Test (not China, Vietnam)
- Go to GER to hug my friend
- Break through my depression and suicidal tendency (not a joke)
- Get a part-time job at a tea house near school6 -
People around me be like "Why you never take a break?? I see you work all the time. Doesn't your company offer you a paid holiday??"
Yeah they do offer a paid holiday, but even on holiday I still have to work because I'm the IT manager, full stack developer, database admin, helpdesk and everything that is related to IT.

I love linux. I would switch entirely from windows to Linux (currently running dualboot win10, antergos) if a few thing would work better/exist for Linux:
- WPF .NET
- Photoshop
- Games (mainly OSU!, it does run under wine but wine is meh)
- Excel
:/13 -
I got stuck with a small task for days, today I just have the courage to ask for help and a senior literally gave me the code for the problem! I'm not sure if I should be happy for finishing the task or embarrassed for couldn't solve the problem by myself. 😄😥5

I love open source and all that fun stuff but I am very unimpressed by having to use GNU/Linux based OS after the last fuck up... the lack of games, stuff that actually works, the almost constant need to compile something and the need to have DDG open at all times because something broke. I mean why the fuck do I need to install libcurl3:i386(for 32 bit programs and games) if there is already libcurl4 and why the actual fuck does it conflict?!... Why the fuck do I need to glue together and compile drivers for my printer?! And they only have "beta support" so like half of the functions that the printer would normally have... Why the fuck don't any games work? Witcher 2? Nope, you click launch and the launcher just closes itself. osu!lazor? Nope, the game will run but only as a process in the background, no window will open no matter what I do. StarCraft: Brood War? Nope, Wine hates the battle.net client and running it in a VM is a really bad idea, the game flickers like crazy... Any other games? Pretty much out of luck... I would really like to play KCD but I doubt it would be playable...rant wine compile all the things glue together your own printer driver open source stuff breaks ubuntu os duckduckgo vm gnu/linux games24

osu-web devs: we use PHP because it just works *stabs in vagrant*
My webdev friend + my crazy ASP.NET Friend: hold my beer
*proceeds to refactor everything to ASP.NET and stabs in Docker*
welp, thats enough social interaction for today -
Had a PHP test for a job application yesterday. The test contains nearly 20 questions, most are 2 points. I had to write the answer into a word file and cannot use search engine. I thought I did okay because most of the questions were asking like 'what is php', 'what is isset', etc. which I could answer all of them and pretty confident that I answered correctly but the recruiter contacted back today that I failed...:(
It's my first time applying for a programing job after been working in the field for almost 3 years. Feel so bad.. Feel so unqualified 😥😥7 -
So f*king stressed out!
3 weeks passed at new job and I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing. My PRs got tons of comments and I still can't finish a tiny ticket that should be very easy but it's in a stack that I have almost 0 knowledge about. I feel so incompetent and afraid that I won't pass the probation. 😥
The stress hit so hard that I can't eat, feeling nausea every morning and can't sleep well at all. I question myself if I'm too stupid to be a developer, should I just give up?
😭😰😱😥😵
Argh this is so bad!10 -
just finished Copying ~1 TB of Osu! Song and Skins. took about 45 Minutes with this puny WD Green HDD.
Don't ask how many song i have.18 -
• Learn new things!
• Continue my programming projects (mostly C#), and eventually publish them!
• Create more programming side-projects!
• Create more music, of various genres, and finish unfinished tracks! (I love music 💙)
• Buy a violin, or another instrument! (I already play harpsichord and piano, and I love them both)
• Buy a new PC setup! (maybe?)
• Get a driver's license!
• Create more music sheets!
• Create more custom maps, on rhythm games! (like osu! or Cytus / Cytunity)
• Make new friends, and meet with my older ones more!
• Go to places, new and old!
• Open myself more to others! (I'm kinda shy)
• Do my university's exams, properly!
• Do my conservatory's exams, also properly!
• Try drawing!
• Try all sorts of new things!
• Get a cat into the family! (I love cats, but I never got one because I don't know how to raise them, yet)
• Be more confident about myself!
And... yeah, I guess that's it :D
What about you?
Have a happy 2019, everyone! 💙2 -
First day at work and after seeing the codebase and how everyone's talking about the code, I'm pretty sure I don't have imposter syndrome, I'm just that bad...13
-
I was trying out flutter because why the fuck not. I made a plan for an application the downloads an Osu!-beatmap file and extracts the infos relevant for an external music player (like background, the song file, title and so on)
So I designed a basic database scheme and decided to include the files into the database. 3 hours into development it hit me...
HOW THE FUCK IS THE EXTERNAL MUSIC PLAYER SUPPOSED TO GET THE AUDIO FILES WHEN THEY ARE IN MY DATABASE!
Guess I'll just have to replace the files with absolute paths instead. 😒 -
* Don't abandon projects
* Read a bit every day
At least one chaper of a normal
book and one volume of manga
that's written I a language I still have
problems with
* Learn to write better code, better software architecture
* Fly to japan
* Get a driver license
* Rise again in Osu!
* Tell everyone I use Arch Linux
* Get a job or start freelancing
* watch the animes I always wanted to watch
* Find more awesome musicians and genres to listen to
* Build a desktop pc
Maybe I'll comment some more if I can think of some -
Developer-in-training at OSU, worried about being able to find a job. Contributing to an open-source project right now to try to hone my skills. Any advice from the more experienced?3
-
I don't think anyone said it yet so I'll have to choose osu!. It's a rhythm game and now it is being remade as open source. It also uses a open source game engine dedicated to rythm games. The osu staff is great and the main dev (peppy) streams on twitch while making the game sometimes.
It's a great project and I hope I can contribute some day.6 -
This is pre-dev but whatev. I got my cs degree from OSU. After I graduated I realized that I had to fill out a form (by hand) and a mail a 25$ check to them in order for them to send me my diploma. Naturally I never got around to ordering it. Then about 2 months post grad I get this package from OSU which I open up to find this freakin metal engraved business card holder and a letter congratulating me on my degree. A) business card holder??? B) why couldn't they just mail me my diploma instead -.-
I still haven't ordered my diploma yet2 -
I'm not too proud of it but.... https://github.com/PythonTryHard/...
It's garbo, especially on code quality but it's my coolest piece of garbo9 -
Had my first ever final interview as a developer after passing the first ever coding assignment, now can't stop thinking if I should have answered the questions differently.
I was very honest to my answer when they asked "How do you test your application?" As I started building the app with 0 knowledge about software development and know nothing about software testing. So I just told them the truth that I did not do any proper test, I just used a checklist and manual test to test my app and the app that I created for the assignment was the first app that I write a proper test cases and implement an automated test. The same goes to other questions like automated deployment and OOP experience. I just told them the honest truth even though I know that they are not the best practice. Did I just f*cked up the interview??
Arghh can't stop thinking2 -
I'll take... "osu!". I like music and rhythmic games although I know sh[BLEEP] on C#.
Software.... Firefox. Because fuck you Chrome. And git! Everybody loves git.5 -
Been coding with python and like I mean I barely know any other language. So my school asked me if I wanted to go for an olympiad and i was like sure. Python is an accepted language but c++ is the recommended there so I go for the course offered by the organisers. On the schedule it was written that we were gonna learn the syntax of c++ on the first day. I go in, see everyone codng like mad and the organiser comes up to me and is like oh this is a pre course contest. MOREOVER, after the contest which I fucked up because like I dont know c++ and the course was in c++, the trainer spends the entire break playing osu and afterwards during the actual lecture dives straight into vectors and stacks and my brain was melting. mfw he said "does everybody remember". I swear it was the worst course ever. Sorry for such an unorganised and long rant. Had a rough day2

Many people say that it's easy to pass probation, so I wonder what would make someone not pass a probation in your opinion?9
-
I've started to make a tournament managed for the game osu!, but the project has been on hold for the last 9 months and will probably still be on hold for the next 10 months... By then there will be official tournament management tools. I should speedup i guess?

!rant
So we played a game where everyone in class gets a piece of paper strapped onto his back and everybody else can write one positive thing about the person. Some people wrote anime, osu and dank memes on my back. Mfw when not even mad4 -
I just got to college and can do web dev fairly well (Mern stack mostly). But tbh I am now more interested in being an app developer. Should I try to learn React Native/Flutter or Kotlin/Swiftquestion kotlin java android kotlin google app development ios development android development app swift apple3
