0.Arrive late due to traffic.(Apparently a car hit a cow crossing the road)
1. Try upgrading php5 to php7 and break stuff in the process and waste 2 hours fixing things.(Poor connection so ssh sessions hung occasionally)
2.PHP fixed,open Gmail and get over 100 emails from clients about the server being down(because of (0)).Ignore all.Find a snaglist of over 20 TODOs.
3.Open Android Studio, update to 2.3 and everything becomes broken.Each time i open it ,it crashes and i have to "Report to Google"
4.Spend the next 1 hour reinstalling AS.It finally works.
5.Open Project and the libraries are broken.Spend another hour upgrading build tools.
6.Leave SDK to update and decide to check my Google Cloud console.$50 bill pending.Shit.
7.Try XCode. Remember the project is still in Swift 2 and I have to upgrade it(Would take eternity).Immediately closes xcode.
8.Gives up on life and decides to log into Devrant.

Dream : Write todos.
Reality :

Volunteered to fix a brittle component in our app. Turned out to be 26 classes of mostly copy pasted code that is riddled with todos and void of feedback for the user. Here's a pretty representative sample of this code's quality:

Me: "So, to recap.. I'll be creating an integration between your site and [some software]. It will require [list of todos and features].. I expect this to take 4 hours over the next 2 business days."

Client: "But [referring company] said this would only take like 15 minutes.."

Ladies and gents, may you all have the motivation to get all of your // TODOs // TODONE

I wonder if someone ever did the //TODOs or fixed the //FIXMEs I left in the code the last place I worked at 🤔

I wish my colleagues try to google first and then ask me.

Last week, the team lead told me that he can't merge because my code has code smells and going forward, can't have that. We use Sonar and well the way to "fix it" according to him is to mark the line using //NOSONAR.

Most of the issues are minor like Unused imports and for me incomplete TODOs.

And before the "verbal" rule was only need to fix Major + issues. And well the reason I use TODOs is to mark code that probably needs changing in the future. I know there's going to be some feature that these lines have to be changed. But the requirements are fully defined yet from business.

But I sort of blew up on him. YOU WANT TO ENFORCE ZERO CODE SMELLS NOW?!?!?! AND THESE MINOR ISSUES? MARK THEM WITH NOSONAR?

HERE'S WHAT I THINK FOR THE LAST X YEARS... THE CODE DESIGN IS SHIT, MINOR CODE SMELLS AND MANUALLY MARKING THE ONES U NEED TO KEEP... ARE THE LEAST OF OUR PROBLEMS...

AND GUESS WHAT? NEW FEATURE, SOME DEV FORGETS TO CHANGE SOME COMPONENT THAT DEPENDS ON IT. WOULDN'T IT BE GREATE IF THERE WERE BOOKMARKS... O WAIT...

Hi all, I'm new to this community. I found it out couple of days back while downloading some apps on play store. And I don't know how much time have I spent here since then... Damm, I've an interview after 2 days.

My query is, I am stuck/confused. I have so many ToDos. ToDos to learn new things, from UI to other langs to machine learning to database to etc etc. And I keep on postponing it because I can't decide which way to go first. There is so much fuzz about BigData/AI which sounds cool. Sometimes I want to build UI for my imaginary idea, then somebody says a man must learn linux and DB. Top of that I'm preparing for interviews, so I think I should get a job first and then start learning. But when I get a job, I get *busy* with job. It feels like Captain America, all he does is official work. I sometimes feel like trying open source coding, but quit the idea because I get scared or overwhelmed by imagining the big community behind it and I won't be able to make a difference or I might get bashed by others as I get bashed in StackOverFlow :-(
I'm unable to get help from friends/family/colleagues, not because they are bad. It's just they don't get it. People think just because you have a job which pays the bills and save money, everything is fine because there are lots of people who dream to get a job, so be thankful for what you have. I'm thankful... But it's not helping. I really want to do things more than what my job asks me to. The kid inside me is awake since I became adult.

Have you been in this condition or is it just me? Or is it too confusing? Could you please help me out. Thanks a lot. Sorry for serious post. I'm a java programmer by the way.

Branch Manager without actual credentials (just a manager no real business decisions are made by him).

- Constantly is sick
- at home a lot doing „home office“ and not being responsive in company chat or emails
- is in home office 3-4 days a week while company policy clearly states one day a week
- watches YouTube a lot at work and calls out other people when they check their emails or quickly order something on amazon or maybe just listen to a podcast at work
- is a scrum master but rarely acts like it as in softens up rules as he sees fit
- backstabs employees in front of ceo when he actually entrusts them beforehand and says he is definitely in the employees side
- actually tried to physically intimidate me and another employee
- has no real technological background but chimes in on technical discussions and thinks it’s a new round of bullshit bingo
- does personal errands during work and books the time for it as work time
- claims people cheat on their time management entries and gets them warned and fired for it, while doing the exact thing himself
- knows he is trusted by the ceo but actually takes 0 interest in the future of the company
- tirades and gossips about other employees that just aren’t around at that moment
- is sexist at times
- very untrustworthy
- is responsible for a very toxic environment around the office

So that are his attributes - he got me warned and sacked because I supposedly committed fraud with my time management and caused the company financial harm - I had no projects or todos and was keeping myself busy with learning JS and python stuff instead of sitting around waiting for a ticket to come around.

Needless to say I’m glad I don’t see that guy any more. I’d break his jaw if I’d have to see him again.

Someone commented that they originally looked into Python because he/she liked the way the name sounded (Python sounds cool)

I got one better, I originally researched Ruby because it is Japanese, and I am a filthy otaku

Google:- Google home is using machine learning to remove all type of back noise like traffic, air, and others so the call experience goes smoother.

Microsoft:- In Skype we are using machine learning to catch all type of back noise and mix it with your voice. Skype will try every possible way to make your call experience as bad as possible. Every type of noise Trafic, Air, hardware, your breath if there is nothing! the software will cut your voice and send only a few parts.

Oh god, I'm rewriting an old Python script we use at work and I had a look at the original tests for inspiration... There are 600 lines of "passes", #TODOs, assertions that can never fail, and tests of imported packages. Basically none of it is testing the actual script 🙃

I have a habit of leaving random TODOs in random files of projects I work on. Then, when I come back to work on the projects I display a list of all TODOs and try to implement them only to find out that I already implemented everything and forgot to delete the TODOs, on the positive side I feel like I accomplished a lot without actually doing anything 😂😂😂

Not fixing the TODOs even when I have time.

Okay, I knew one of my colleagues was actually a work freak, but to this point...

He's been working for most of the day yesterday on a school project, and so was I. Satisfied with my progress, I push the code with TODOs on things we had to agree on tomorrow as well as mentioning it in the issue associated with it on Git, with my last commit a bit before 11PM.

I wake up, with a ping on Discord asking me what was that "bug" I just pushed, wondering what editor I use and asking me if I even use the console debugger. Said "bug" was the point of discussion I said we wanted to talk about tomorrow, I replied in the morning. But he decided of the fix on his own and committed it, as well as other things until... 3AM...

Honestly, I don't blame him for choosing at our stead, he's the leader of our branch and the Gitmaster on top of that. I just reproach him to call it a bug, not see the issue, and all that while he could, you know, sleep. And get some rest overall.
This dude has been working himself madly these last weeks, where he did about 80% of what each of the team member was supposed to do in a whole semester (which amounts to 150 hours of work) for this project (we're nine folks on it).
Now I'm pretty sure it's how he works and that he still gets a decent amount of sleep (like I dunno, until 9AM or so), so I don't expect a response beforehand.

And indeed, as he woke up, he replied to me.

At 7:50AM.

So now Github has their project feature and Bitbucket has integrated Trello [beta].

Any of you guys using those features?

How do you handle your ToDos/tasks?

Wow, Issues on GitHub are really a good way to maintain a descriptive TODOs for your personal project

I wanna work for a company that develops cool algorithms and implements them. Where the devs analyze complex issues and have to do complex problem solving. Where everyday is a challenge. Not a place where simple repetitive UI bugs are the issue at hand. Not a place where the only tasks and todos are trivial and uninteresting. Not a place where most of my coworkers are idiots.

Download an open source project and look for code comments to get my understanding... Nothing but 'todos' here and 'todos' there

Todos in code sitting there in personal projects forever

i love waking up every morning to the crushing wait of all the TODOs infesting my codebase

When i code in PHP. I forgot to type semicolon.

When i code in Kotlin I forgot that semicolon is not necessary.

When you end up continuing someone else's project and saw a bunch of undone TODOs....

Why do I even spend time writing TODOs in my source code, I actually end up doing those after an hour or so. 🙄

I accept offer letter from x company.
And just before 3 day of joining i got far better offer from company y.

So i told company x that i got better offer I don't want to join there anymore.
They told me that after accepting i should not find new job, my word has no value, and told me "keep that attitude (sarcastically).

I know i did wrong. How do you guys handle that?
Is it wrong to accept other offer after accepting one?

After weeks of constant rush, I finally managed to have one week dedicated entirely to reduce Tech Debt.
It felt so good to close all these todos, finally write those tests, that documentation :)

And I'm are getting work irregular.

1 week just 10 hours.

What should I do?
I try to get other project but most of are For a full time.
One Client hires me but at that time the previous client gave me a full 30 hour's work so the new client could not get enough time and gave me low ratings because of time wasting.

What are some things you do(apart from the popularly discussed, todos, writing etc.) to make complex requirements simple(not easy, simple)?

I would like to supercharge my workflow this year. I want to setup a slack team for our clients in order to help track task progress better. I would like to integrate slack with Trello in order to use boards. I would also like to integrate an email bot that clients can forward todo emails to and then convert these to Trello Todos. I know how to integrate bots but how can I convert emails from the email bot to Trello todos? Do I need to create a bot of my own for that?

If you don't label your TODOs with a ticket number and they get merged then they are TODONOTDOs.
