Search - "price"
For real though, to each their own in the end.
I accept MacOS for development, but Apple hardware is just price gouging.61
A man goes inside a pet shop and starts to move around the cages to scout the pets. He sees a monkey with a price of 5000$ and goes to the merchant to ask for details. Hey mister, the monkey…what does it know to worth that much money? Well, it knows Windows 95, 98, 2000, and also knows Word, C++, Visual Basic and last but not least, it knows how to play computer games. - Good monkey, it's worth the money. He goes and finds another monkey with a price of 10000$ and again he will ask the merchant. "What does this monkey know?" "It knows Linux, Unix, Corel and Autocad." "Nice, even I don't know those things." On a last scout run he finds another monkey just sitting there with a price 20000$. The story repeats, and he goes with a lack of confidence to ask the merchant for details. "And what does this monkey do for that ridiculous amount of money?" "I never saw her doing anything, but the other two call her Project Manager!"4
The only one rule that governs the entire programmers world: If I work as you want, I'll choose the price. If you choose the price, I'll work as I want.12
Client: we need extraordinary website in ordinary price.
Me: ohk *google search* WordPress free theme.13
So our public transportation company started to sell tickets online with their brand new fancy system.
• You can buy tickets and passes for the price you want
• Passwords are in plaintext
• Communication is through HTTP
• Login state are checked before the password match so you can basically view who is online
• Email password reminders security code can be read from servers response
Oh and I almost forgot admin credentials are FUCKING admin/admin
Who in the fucking name of all gods can commit such idiocracy with a system that would be used by almost millions of people. I hope you will burn in programming hell. Or even worse...
I'm glad I'm having a car and don't have to use that security black hole.17
was thinking of buying an s8, but fuck samsung.
price of ssl certificate: about $15
price of samsung: about $254,000,000,00025
Do you also hate that feel when you have to deal with 110% idiot? Today, BTC hit 5000$ mark, right now it was 5200$. Media are now full of BTC. Me with my friend, having lunch.
Me: Wow, BTC is finnaly over 5k$.
Friend: Wow, I will just wait till it gets to 5500$ and then buy so I can sell it for kore when price drops.
Me: *trying to explain that if you want to profit you need to buy when its cheap and sell when its expensive*
Friend: No you are lying thats bullshit *ragequit*
It really hurts since he is really smart, especially good in math and logical thinking... 🙄16
The iPhone X is in Germany so expensive that it would be cheaper to fly to the U.S. stay there for one or two days and buy it there.25
Dev: So tell me some specs about the app you want.
Client: something like facebook.
Dev: you know facebook has too many features for even having a price tag?
Client: what? Will I pay too? I have the idea.
The best I have seen and exploited was years ago with a web shop that allowed me to set my own check-out price by just inspecting the element and setting the desired price. It just happily advanced to the next step where they invoked the payment provider with my custom price. Unfortunately the shop doesn't exist anymore. I have encountered many more security leaks but this one was so easy and lucrative to exploit.4
father (1 month ago, btc price = $4000): no bitcoin for you! its gonna go down, people are randomly going to stop valuing it as a currency
father (now, btc price = $10000): you should've invested in bitcoin! with your own money! we could've been rich!
mother: please expand your interests, programming is not the only thing you should do6
Resigning tomorrow, and I can't sleep. Thrilled to finally end the slavery at a company that pays me half of the market price. Exciting day coming up..5
So i was working with a small company which were developing software for insurance sector. It was decided then that there should be an app for windows phone community and i was hired to that job.
It took me almost a month to finish the job. Please keep in mind that project was huge and already developed for android counterpart and was a hit in market. This was a chance given to me to prove myself and i proved it.
First month was fantastic for the company as software the company made was not available for windows phone. Price has been set for the software was higher in those time. Almost $15.
Excited by the success i added some more features which were not available on android counter part.
But price was very high. Even i asked management to drop the price because there were less windows phone user but no body listened.
Result : in a year app has made roughly 5000 download in which only 200 paid the actual price. Company asked me to take down the app from store. I was blamed for my over confidence in adding features that this made app less usable. They did not say a word to business managment team. I was fired.
Rough, cruel world.
6 month ago i published my app for same purpose with same feature set and different UI. And made it free. Completely free. Added a link to pay developer $0.5 or Rs 30.
Result: i have now 10 thousands plus download in last 4 month in which almost 3000 users have donated already.
Now i have my resource and my confidence and making an android app for same purpose.
This is my story and is not fake, i am 28 years old. If you think you can, you can.
Client: You can develop a e-commerce system for me right?
Me: Yeah sure, whats your budget?
Client: 100$ and I want a really good vps included in the price.

Talking to Best Buy customer support live chat trying to price match using friend’s laptop.
Typed in “<b>Hello</b>”
Oh cool.. it comes out as bold. Let’s get a scary as fuck screamer gif and img src it.
Me: *Posts picture*
Me: *Waits a few seconds*
Me: “Did you see that picture?”
Support: “No. Sir, could you tell me the item you want to price match?”
Me: “Okay hold on.”
Me: “Did you see that?”
Friend: “Dude stop.”
I push my friend away since I’m on his Best Buy account.
Me: “Did you see a pop up?”
Me: “Okay okay hold on.”
You have left the chat.10
My father is my first ever client and he's truly preparing me for the real world - the world of dumb clients, I guess.
Him: I want a software that does this and that to track materials going in and out of my business.
Him: Each material has a price of 1 unit. If I enter 10 units of a material, I want it to calculate the correct price.
Me: *nods* I'll create a table of materials and 1 unit prices.
Him: Okay, but the price of each material needs to be the cheapest one on the market.
Me: Sure. You'll enter materials and prices into the table.
Him: No. I don't enter prices. I enter a material and the price is the cheapest one on the market for the material.
Me: *mind blown* Care to elaborate?
Him: The computer knows the cheapest prices of materials on the market.
Me: Look, it doesn't work like that. There needs to be a service from which one could retrieve prices of materials. Otherwise you'll have to monitor the changes of prices on the market manually.
Him: No! The computer knows!
Me: No! Computer is just as dumb as the code one writes.
Him: You obviously don't understand math and you're inexperienced so you can't do that.
Me: I'm obviously inexperienced, but I know how what you described works. Besides, what does math have to do with retrieving prices of materials?
Him: Whatever. Just do what I said - this and that - and once that's done I'll tell you what's next. We'll forget about prices for now.
I can't blame him - he's 63 years old. When he got his engineering diploma, Croatia was still a part of Yugoslavia and they just got black and white TVs with only 1 channel that had shows only on specific times, not 24/7.7
Wrote a python script to fetch details of amazon products to monitor price differences.
The script is only 50 lines, which is why I love python!8
Brand new Pinebook. An ARM based system with a nominal price of $99.
It is a little bit like a Raspberry Pi, but with 2GB RAM and slightly worse community support.17
@JoshBent suggested that I'd make a blog about security.
Nice idea, fair enough!
*registers domain at provider with discounts at the moment*
*tries to find whois protection option*
"You can add WHOIS protection to your account as an upgrade"
*requests authorization token*
*logs into usual domain name provider account*
*transfers domain name*
*anonymizes WHOIS details within two seconds*
I could've stayed and ask them about the cost etc but the fact that they even HAVE a price for protecting WHOIS data is a no-go for me.
Fuck domain name resellers which ask money for protecting ones WHOIS information (where possible).37
I'm seriously considering never doing fixed rate projects for clients ever again. The conversation will likely go like this, though:
"How much to build my website?"
"Sorry, I don't think you heard me correctly. I asked how much to build the whole website."
"Wait, you changed the rate! Why won't you give me a fixed cost?"
"Why won't you pay me for my time?"
"Because I can get it done for a cheaper fixed cost somewhere else!"
"But how do you know that's actually cheaper?"
"What do you mean?"
"We pad fixed price projects precisely because we fear not being fully paid for our time."

The superpower to distinctly detect arsehole clients before having to work with them, because I already agreed.
I love my job and I love building things, but I fucking despise clients who don't know what they want or need, don't listen to my advice, while keeping up unrealistic ideas and wishes at any price – except mine.5
My life in a nutshell:
- dress heavy clothes ➡️ it's hot out there.
- dress light clothes ➡️ it's freezing out there
- buy Bitcoin ➡️ its price fell
- sell Bitcoin ➡️ its price is on the sky3
My girlfriend asked me to take her to somewhere she hasn't been when I asked, 'where do you wanna go for anniversary?'
So I took her to Github.com 🤣
Trust me, I had to pay a big price for that joke! 😏5
My Galaxy S7 Edge fell onto the gravel road as I was getting out of my car and the screen shattered into tons of small cracks!! Just a few days before I was gonna sell it to somebody for the same price I bought it for! 😫
The fucking SECOND i buy ethereum its price starts dropping.
//sidenote: yay 25k++, i wonder if trogus ever thought about adding a pet shark17

Not an interview but yesterday my client sent me a message asking me why I wanted to discuss the price of the project. Apparently he thought that he wasn't going to pay anything for it.6
My friend tells me #Linux has demons that work in the background! Does that mean Linux users are evil too?! #imscared4
2 extra screens on the go for a laptop?
Seems a little bulky.
but for $400 I'm not sure if the price is right.12
So I'm browsing peopleperhour job offers. Some of them are so ridiculous. My top ones are
1. "I need program like photoshop" for 60$
2. Title is "everything", price is 30$ and description "I need program from scratch"
3. Someone wants pretty complex website for 10$. (its something with articles, users, comments, polls etc.)5
Why THE FUCK would anyone make a totally free (in the sense of price; gratuit) software project, and then not make it open-source?
What is the benefit of stifling the development of your own project when you have no monetary gain from doing so?16
Was wondering why my rig was slowing down to a crawl to find it was MalwareBytes so had no choice but to remove it...Goodnight sweet price.6
Fuck Pixel and Pixel XL pricing. Google dropped their "don't be evil" motto a while back. Looks like that is in stark display right now.16
Just ordered Pizza. You get 10% off when ordering via their own website, so I did. They calculated the new price on their site, sent it to PayPal and PayPal did another 10% off...
How's something like that in production?6
I've found that suddenly and infrequently, for the past week or so, letters are missing from typed code, and I have to go back and fix them.
Now that is not super weird I guess, but as someone who tends to type quite accurately, and uses a high end mechanical keyboard...
I'm just wondering if the keyboard is broken, or if it's a brain tumor.
I've tried to test it, but every time a letter is missing I'm not actually completely sure I hit that key...
And considering the price of the keyboard, I'm also not completely sure which cause I prefer.12
Client: Don't be afraid to charge us as it is must, we know your work is very valuable.
Me: Ok... *delivers the price*
Client: mmmmm... we thought it might be cheaper 😰
Decided C would be a good idea for a highly object orianted program. Now, I've paid my price, as will be described in the next sentence.
Memory corruptions/leaks, invalid read/writes, valgrind and gdb. Must be fun, isn't it.24
It happened me a few years ago. I live in the Netherlands, but I am Hungarian. My new "friends" asked me to fix their laptop. I did it for free. It turns out, it was a huge mistake. In the next half a year I've solved several issues to them and to their family members (I don't get it, how they can ruin a well working hardware and software that fast, but it is another story). It takes a lot from my free time at the end. Then I had enough and ask some money to fix the next laptop. The price wasn't high, a bit more than a half of the repair shop's price. They tried to press me to do it for free, cos "you are our friend and you are hungarian too, we have to help each other out". I said no. It is too much. I've never seen them again...9
!rant For my uni project I have been developing a anti ransom-ware price of software which had a main purpose of damage limitation/containment in a business environment.
Some course mates were critising it saying yeah when is ransom ware ever really looked at these days, (they developed a chat app), then the news struck about the Nhs hack and now my Lecturer can't get enough of the project and suddenly the marks for real world application seem to be in my favour 🤘
Again not a rant, just a nice feeling after spending so long on my work.7
MySQL has the absolute worst error messages.
"You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds blah blah near '(some random code line)'".
How vague can you be? It doesn't help that I always find the error in a completely different place to where the message says it is.5
Can't decide if I should buy a Macbook Pro or a fucking car. Both would improve my productivity in different ways. What do you suggest?29
Client: My website is broke.
Me: What makes you think that?
Client: I'm not making any money. I haven't sold anything on my e-commerce website.
Me: Let me take a look... Okay, umm, but I'm only seeing the 2 test items left behind as examples. You don't have anything else up for sale.
Client: I thought you took care of all that for me...
Me: (in my head)... Why the f did I become a developer?!?!?!?!
@client, well ma'am I can't exactly drive half way across the country to your store and take pics of your inventory, price them and list them on your website...5
A cable company in my home country recently launched their cloud hosting solution.
Their cheapest plan is $125 and it comes with a 1vCPU, 1GB of RAM and 50 GB HDD. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. That's the equivalent of a $10 plan in DigitalOcean.
Picking Linux or Windows does not change the price 😐4
In a morning 'stand up'.. (SM = Scrum Master, PO = Product Owner)
SM: "Sprint item 42399 ... Did you work with Ken on getting the price service ready for deployment?"
Me: "No, I worked with Dave on the service bus queue changes. Its there in the notes"
SM: "Ha ha...no...right there...it reads working with Ken."
Me: "Those are your notes. You re-assigned the ticket to yourself yesterday."
SM: "Oh...um...you told me you were working with Ken when I asked."
Me: "I'm really sorry, I don't remember you asking or me saying anything about changes to the price service. All the documentation I have is for the service bus."
PO: "I'm so confused, Ken was pulled off another project to work on the Price service for you guys."
Me: "I never talked to Ken, I have no idea whats going on. Did you tell Ken he had to make changes to the Price service?"
SM: "No..I never...um...well....yea...this card was blocked and the service needed to be approved and deployed."
Me: "Ken's changes were for the purchasing service two weeks ago and already deployed. The card is already marked as Done"
<PO rubs his face>
PO: "Good god...do I still need to be here?"
<PO walks out>
Me: "What changes did you tell Ken to make?"
SM: "Whatever the card says...see the price service."
Me: "Scroll down...see..price related to the service bus, not price service."
SM:"Work with Dave on getting this card closed, OK?"
Good fracking grief. Your ego is so brittle and so eager to look like a boss.
I did my job, you fracking kiss ass. I'm fracking sure when you re-assigned the ticket you told my boss you "had to" because I was falling behind in the sprint.3
Case 1 - You sold the coins. And price continue to increase
Case. - Even when the coin reached it peak, you just hold the coins, because you learned something from Case 1. Eventually coin collapse.
And this continues in loop6
Be making webpage for local osu! tournament.
Assume you are doing it for free.
Get told to ask for payment.
Tell the client the price(with >45% discount) that is getting really close to your hourly wage.
Get told that it is too much to ask for that webpage.
Ask client to propose a price that he is willing to pay.
Never hear back drom the client.
I just don't get it... Why are people expecting that webpages are cheap? I mean, 6-7 years of experience are worth something, right? I also have to pay rent, buy food and components for my PC that break while working...2
Just bought my first physical server for a cheap price second hand. It's a low end thing but hey, you've got to start somewhere, right!4
Client : I have a big budget for this Project
Client : We have to go lower with the Price or I see myself forced to hire an indian developer

So I like to order the same thing for each restaurant. And there's this really good Mexican restaurant. Every time I eat there, the price of my order is $13.37. That is all.4

Upwork Job post:
I want a small website where you can post product images with title, price and descriptions. It should have a search functionality like amazon. The users must be able to add products it in their cart, post reviews and buy from there. I want it to integrate with PayPal and other payment methods. And yes, i want to be able to write blog post too.
The Hungarian public transport company launched an online shop (created by T-Systems), which was clearly rushed. Within the first days people found out that you could modify the headers and buy tickets for whatever price you set, and you could login as anyone else without knowing their password. And they sent out password reminders in plain text in non-encrypted emails. People reported these to the company which claims to have fixed the problems.
Instead of being ashamed of themselves now they're suing those who pointed out the flaws. Fucking dicks, if anyone they should be sued for treating confidential user data (such as national ID numbers) like idiots.3
If you ever feel bad about your life choices just remember that my classmate spent 53 bitcoins on a mining machine 5 years ago (never made its price back).
Today that'd be $883616 or £6515282
MacRant: was waiting for a new macbook pro release for awhile to upgrade by old laptop (not mac). Watched the release, had very mixed feeling about it, but still ordered (clinching my teeth and saying sorry to my wallet). Next day looked into alternatives, cacelled the orded to have more time to think, now deciding... I mean cmon, no latest 7th gen processor, no 32gb memory option, 2gb video is ok for non gaming, the whole "big" thing is TouchBar that I DON'T F* NEED. They should drop the "Pro" and name it "Fancy Strip".
So I looked into alternatives, and Dell XPS 15 with maxed spect is twice as juicier, and has not a touch bar, but the whole touch freakin 4k screen, for the less price :/
Just wanted to rant about the new macbook's spec and price and see what you all think of macbook vs alternatives?17
Apple 4k Tv is a joke 😂
& for the price you get a xbox one s which supports 4k too + you can play games on it24
XIAOMI vs APPLE..?
XIAOMI providing almost 90% of the specs of APPLE for half price, shouldn't we go for XIAOMI instead of APPLE....?21
Dev 1: Hey, so people's computers seem to crash when someone tries to use a great deal of CPU power or RAM with a single large process, since we are still severely limited by the state of software/hardware interaction in the 1990s.
Dev 2: Why not set the max clock speed at 60% and then double the price? Nobody will know.
David Attenborough: And at this moment, the modern Macintosh Computer was born.
Bought an online lecture on NodeJS from Udemy for a hefty price. It only outlines basics and does not even demonstrate a CRUD operation.
I mean c'mon!! what a bunch of cunts!5
Friend : hey! I wanna buy a laptop.. range is about entry level nothing hi fi! But it should work for 3-4 years.
Me : sure.. give me a few hours..i'll get back.
*Looks all around foe the best thing in that price range.
*Sends a list of laptops ranked based on value for money.
Friend : bought it! Yay! 😎😎😎
*Buys the shittiest laptop they could find at that price range with an absolute old age processor.
Why the fuck did you even ask me at the first place? Fucked couple of hours for me.7
Me: Which option would you like?
Option 1: £x.xx
Option 2: £x.xx
Client: Can we have all the functionality of option 2 but at option 1 price!1
Continuing my last rant:
Bitch now wants some ancient Greek region (mapped as it was exactly), with houses (basically every object that would be in such a house), doors, pickup, objectives, dragging things around, fully functional kitchen, well and river all fully functional. In a month. She upped the price. Now it's 200€.
I'm still laughing.7
Soooo... This happened
Then I got to fill a Google form, there they're asking my hourly price. I've never done such *paid* work. I'm a 2nd year undergrad, what price should I set?
Repairing notebook from 2009. Damn but I like I'm actually thinking about buying it from him and run Arch on it for school. 6gb of RAM ?? Wtfff for that old notebook ? I hope he sells it for a good price.8
"Just a few simple changes" should always be replied to with "just a few extra 0's on the price" since its usually "just a little bit of sanity" it costs you1
You send the client a quote:
"Hey, you should raise your price, you'll never get rich this way..."
On the next job for the same client, I decide to raise the price to be a little more profitable, but still reasonably priced:
"F*CK YOU, THIEF!"
There is this general idea that people have that when programmers are able to run their code in their first attempt, without any error, they think of ourselves as geniuses. But i think that is the case only when you are starting to code. If a programmer with enough experience runs his/her code in their first attempt without any issues, he/she just says their thanks and moves on, because they know that the code can sense cockiness and if they get too carried away now they'll have to pay the price in future.3
Currently working as student part timer on a company that I really like.
When I'll finish my bachelor's degree, I will have been there for about 2-3 Years, additional to my 5 years working prior to that as a developer.
Today I learned, that our company doesn't usually pay the market price for devs (not a huge company, 150 employees, so it's understandable).
So now I don't know what to shoot for when discussing a raise after my degree. Should I still aim for market price? Should I argue with that and hope for the best?
I'm really unsure about that stuff...4
Why mac lovers compare their Mac pro or Mac air with a 300$ windows laptop? Can't you compare it with the same price tag windows laptop?
Because what you are doing is like comparing a Mercedes S500 to Toyota corolla!5
redevelop an entire application within 24 hours for the same pay. Yeah, no that didn't happen surprisingly. And then when the client realised I was offering a great price he came crawling back😂
Sales person - I've got this bespoke job in, here's the spec *hands over a price of paper with a drawing* and I've charged 7 days of your time.
Me - thanks...
*dig deeper in to the job and it's at least a months worth of work*2
When do you know you are a real dev?
When there is a sales of alcohol for half of price in near by shop and you stay at work to solve a bug.
Just happened to me today.2
Just wanted to share with you something that happened today.
So I was looking to buy a flight ticket from Austin to Chicago. I looked at the price and it was about 360$ so I thought I will just fly to Milwaukee and use the train to Chicago. I found a flight to Milwaukee for 140$ with 1 stop at Chicago. 😂😂😂2
Lying to your misses about the purchase price of a new laptop - protecting the relationship or just plain wrong?7
Why do so many programmers who aren't developing for Mac/iOS use Macs for their job? Why not use Linux and get a better specced computer for the same price?20
So I got tired of dragging my behemoth 17" gaming notebook around to do my day to day web development, so I caved and got a Lenovo Yoga 720. It's very slim and light, though I'm not sure I'm completely happy with it yet.
So I figured I would ask you all here. What laptops do you feel are a decent price and are nice and portable?
Here's my need for specs (because I'm a little picky):
-8th gen i5 or i7
-8GB ram minimum (16GB preferred)
-SSD (don't care about the size, so 128GB min)
-Thin, light and compact (probably 13-14")
-$1000 budget (though I will stretch it a little)
I took a look into System76, but I don't really feel the price matches the hardware (lot of price gouging on the upgrades).37
Five or six years ago I was mining bitcoin. I was among first miners. I had a lot of bitcoin. I sold most of btc for 1$ or under to buy laptop so I can code. Bitcoin price was 1200$ at one point. I paid my laptop 300.000$. I am now senior dev. Fck money.5
Bored waiting for a long running test cycle to complete, so...
Monopoly: Software Dev edition.
All properties are companies with apple and alphabet being the most expensive ones, course the online version plugs into stock tickers to accurately reflect the current share price.
All railroads are broadband providers.
You don't build houses or hotels, but patent portfolios and 'landing on another property' becomes 'infringing on a patent'.
- Kickstarter refund, collect £200
- Hit by ransomware, pay 1bitcoin.
- You are sued in East Texas, go straight to jail, do not pass go, do not collect dividends.
- Get out of court free card.
Yeah, I'm that bored that I'm rewriting bloody monopoly...5
So it turns out that the iPhone X was one of the most popular christmas gifts this year in Norway. I mean fucking hell, how is that even possible given the price?2
I wrote I little Programm that shows you the current bitcoin price.
I you want you can help improve it.14
Ad an Android dev, I hate that hybrid solution like cordova, react native or similar frameworks. Companies sell their apps for ridicolous prices, so every native Android/ios dev need to get it's work faster and for a lower price.
Customers can't understand that hybrid app are faster to create but works worse. I'm hating you, hybrid-guys17
I found a great app on iOS that allowed me to clone my Git repo, make commits, change branches, it had everything! I made a small commit and went to push to the remote server, but then it told me that I had to purchase premium to be able to push to remote. I was kind of upset, but I went to check the price of premium, in case it was a few cents. Nope, $25 just to be able to push commits. Seriously? If I was at my computer I’d be able to do this for free.9
My business partner and I started working at our new office and this other guy who was our client and provided us Internet connection for very cheap price, asked us if he can come and hangout sometimes
My partner : yeah man, any time !!
That guy : thanks man
Partner : But only when we are not that busy and don't bring any other person unless it's a woman.
Me : what !!
My partner : what ?5
So a client of mine who I've known a long time referred me to a friend of his for a project. OK great! Quoted the guy a price got the OK but didn't know my client had told this friend they would be paying me for the job. Well I found this out when I went to get payment from the guy. I call my client and he proceeds to tell me "yes we told him we would pay for it but thought it would just be included in our project fee which was already paid".. WTF2
The retail price of 2.5 SSDs are getting really cheap these days.
However, it does NOT reflect on custom laptop options...
You greedy Microsoft and Dell!4
So I had a meeting with a client, some time ago, asking for my expertise on rebuilding their websites frontend and backend within a month. I offered a very low price (as I am a student), which included 40 hours of work for 30$ an hour (normal price is ~120$). And done within 2 months. He turned it down by saying, that the price was 4 times too high... Clients are so demanding, but not willing to pay for their needs. He haven't found another yet. This was 2 months ago.5
When the boss externalize a mobile app that it could be done internally with existing resources for 10% of the external price and at the end the mobile app experience has creepy experience and so bad reviews ... In the meeting, Boss says that we learn to our fails but I was thinking something else:1
Why do they ask for a ball park price based on a non existent spec and pathetic meeting ramblings. FUCK OFF.
colleague of mine typed "ButBucket.com" instead and now we're trying to figure out if BitBucket owns the "ButtBucket.com" domain cuz it's $4K a year and that price sounds a little high
Either way I want the domain name2
Post on Craigslist: Need simple website. No coding, HTML and CSS only. Send price and examples.
Me: I need you to answer 4 questions before I can send a price.
Them: I really like your work, but if you cant give me a price without me answering any questions then you arent a good fit.
Yeah.... I feel for the guy that picks this one up.4
Working on website refactoring and redesigning stuffs and cursing previous developer the way he coded stuffs.
With each feature implementation the way client bargains and set price point..
I can feel why that developer did what he did. I feel you bro.
I got an idea.
Make a free and open-source Steam game.
10 free levels as a demo.
And make the user pay 0.99€ for each 10 additional levels.
How do you find that idea ?
I actually like it, it could work.
Better than making the user pay the full price for the full game.
I asked on Telegram and they said it was a bad idea.37
So I work for a store that sells audio and video equipment. My boss asked me to find old stock that is in our system but not on our site.
We have an event at one of our stores in a week. I made a simple quiz - where people can fill out there email and win... something.
So going through the old stock we found something random, and my boss had the "great" idea to use that as the price for the quiz.
Guess what it is...
nah you won't
ITS A FUCKING TEAPOT.... I AM NOT KIDDING YOU - our audio video store is giving away a teapot as a price!?!?2
Hi, what is the average salary of developers in your country.
For me : i'm junior UI/UX designer and front end developer in Paris, working for Parisian digital consulting agency 35hrs a week
Annual salary 30k €
Adding to this :
Daily meal ticket 8,8€
50% of transport ticket's price is refunded
And many other stuffs and don't even remember.
Knowing that Paris is an expensive city.
How about you people ?27
My devDucks just arrived today and I am so happy, and I have to share with all of you the awesome person dfox is for making sure they wouldn't get stuck in customs (here in Portugal they are really restrictive with the price limit). I wouldn't mind paying the customs fee, but you spared me of all the trouble. Many thanks!
Started my first Android app for a town here in Luxembourg, It's a school project but the best one will be sold and the good part is that we can pick the price. But I'm pretty confident to win.
For the future? Google Firebase for sure2
Shopping with gf. This is fuckin bullshit. I want to code... FUCK THIS! DO YOU HAVE TO FUCKIN CHECK EVERY SINGLE FUCKIN ITEM'S SIZE AND PRICE RECURSIVELY? For fuck's sake, I got shit to do!8
I liked everything about the Pixel, so I went to the Google Store to pre-order it only to see the price :( I'll just stick to my LG G2 until it breaks I guess.10
Do any other teen programmers find it frustrating that clients will only hire us for a lower price? I understand it's a matter of experience, but I still feel designing and programming an iOS app is worth more than $2500...7
When I still in college one of my friend called me
Friend : you major is CS right?
Friend : I want to buy a new PC
Me : cool
Friend :just to check with you what is the price for a 512M memory?
Me : ......2
999 dollars = 835,20 euro
Launch price of iPhone X, 1179,00 euros
Maybe it's because Apple pays too much revenue tax in EU , oh, wait...6
Was offered a really good price to set up a webshop, and he would pay me the same amount for two literal duplicates of the site.
"Oh btw I need it so no one can see who logged in to the website, there must be no traces of activity"
IOW - he makes shitloads on illegal horse trade while I take the blame for the website.1
Client: "We need a quote for a website build."
Me: "OK. What kind of website?"
Client: "We are working on a brief now, but we need a cost ASAP."
Me: "Alright. It should cost between $X and $Y. Dependent on the brief."
Client: "We can't go back with a range. We need a set price."
Me: "Well, give me a solid Functional Specification, and I'll give you a price based on that."
Client gave me a Func Spec. I gave them a price. Then they gave me change after change after change...
But they refused to pay more than the initial fixed price. By the end of it, I would have been better off working at McDonalds.4
Costumers always ask from devs "What will be the price?" before they exactly understand what they want...
Idiot: Hello, Sam gave me yo #, I need avery small database system, how much wd it cost.
Me: I can't giv u a price without knowing features of the system in details.
Idiot: letme send u a list of the features.
Idiot: Budget issues, Payroll, Reporting, capabilities, Purchasings,Projects/Awards, Trainings ,Input query, Fixed, assets, Central invoicing, General ledger, Accounts, payable, Accounts receivable.
Me: you managing a financial institution?
Idiot: no, its a university project.
Me: well am sory bt I can't help you guys, I dnt do campus projects.2
Visited a store to buy Amazon Kindle . Explored to find amazon echo . Amazed by the quality of voice recognition at the price of 5000 INR.. Also was shocked to find Amazon firestick at that price..
Amazon is the new Apple..Or..Apple was a overhyped version of Amazon.1
Waiting 15+ minutes while Windows "indexes" a folder just so I can see the contents reminds me of why I dislike Windows as an OS so much.
This is a senseless operation that is of no benefit to the user.5
When you realize devRant stickers are still in the super cool looking black pattern paper and not sticked in the laptop.
Me: Can I stick the stic...
Dad: Nooooo! WHY WOULD YOU PUT A STICKER IN THE EXPENSIVE LAPTOP????
(got the laptop in half price)
Fuck you Steam, just fuck you and your price politics.
I have a Swiss and one Russian Steam account. I have on my Swiss account over 450 Games and on the russian one around 4.
I have a friend in Russia and to play some games with him, I need a russian account.
Guess what? Since the last change to Steam Shop I cant use my Swiss Credit Card anymore to buy games in Russia.
Now when I want to test a game first on the russian account and when it's good to buy it after on my main Account, I can't.
Why should I pay for a game in Early Access the full price, when the game is bad and will be abadoned in a half year?
Sure they are some good early access games, which I payd the full price for (Switzerland has the highest Steam Game prices). As example ARK or Battlegrounds. I love these games and like to support the Devs.
But I get really angry when I have to pay for a Game which is worth 5 $ and sold in my Country for 20 $ and will be unsupported after a year.
Really fuck you Valve and Steam 🖕🏻🖕🏻😡
Atleast refund the people the money, when the game is abadoned! But sure, you're just in for a Cash Grab...4
Question for my programing elders.
I am a high school student. If/when I am asked to make a client a website, what is the general price that I should charge? (Remember, I am a slightly inexperienced american highschooler, so I don't want to over or under charge them for my work)17
Since my first post was a success, here's another shameless hack-- in this case, ripping a "closed" database I don't usually have access to and making a copy in MySQL for productivity purposes. That was at a former job as an IT guy at a hardware store, think Lowes/Rona.
We had an old SCO Unix server hosting Informix SQL (curious, anyone here touched iSQL?), which has terminal only forms for the users to handle data, and has keybindings that are strangely vi based (ESC does commit changes. Mindfsck for the users!). To add new price changes to our products, this results to a lengthy procedure inside a terminal form (with ascii borders!) with a few required fields, which makes this rather long. Sadly, only I and a colleague had access to price changes.
Introducing a manager who asks a price change for a brand- not a single product, but the whole product line of a brand we sell. Oh and, those price changes ends later after the weekend (twice the work, back at regular price!)
The usual process is that they send me a price change request Excel document with all the item codes along with the new prices. However, being non technical, those managers write EVERYTHING at hand, cell by cell (code, product name, cost, new price, etc), sometimes just copy pasted from a terminal window
So when the manager asked me to change all those prices, I thought "That's the last time I manually enter all of this sh!t- and so does he". Since I already have a MySQL copy of the items & actual (live) price tables, I wrote a PHP backend to provide a basic API to be consumed to a now VBA enhanced Excel sheet.
This VBA Excel sheet had additional options like calculating a new price based on user provided choices ("Lower price by x $ or x %, but stay above cost by x $ or x %"), so the user could simply write back to back every item codes and the VBA Excel sheet will fetch & display automatically all relevant infos, and calculate a new price if it's a 20% price cut for example.
So when the managers started using that VBA sheet, I had also hidden a button which simply generate all SQL inserts for the prices written in the form, including a "back to regular price" if the user specified an end date, etc.
No more manual form entry for me, no more keyboard pecking for the managers with new prices calculated for them. It was a win/win :)1
1. Explain how a martian vending machine (wtf?) should look like and how it works.
2. Write a program to change the currency of the machine and price of martian D.
(other tasks irrelevant)
Congratulations for that recruiter guy for coming up with such a creative task *clap*clap*2
So im a massive ChromeOS fan and would love to own a Pixelbook but cant afford it at this time...
I've been watching a few late reviews and all they do is complain about the price and "limited selection of things" chromeOS has, just watched a reviewer pull an iPhone X out of his pocket.
A pixelbook has the same functionality as an android phone and more for roughly the same price, why can't people see full comparisons rather than just oh its not windows, really shits me!13
I worked a few times for free until the client decided he doesn't need anymore that product so he doesn't need to pay me.
From that moment i started to ask for advance payments, but a lot of times I calculated incorrectly the real price of my work miscalculating the number of hours it will take, ending working for less than 3€ per hour...
I love freelancing, but I'm really bad at evaluating my work.6
1. Trying to find a GUI for Cassandra. And there is none good-looking. And here I was thinking GUI stood for "good-looking user interface". Sigh.
Also Cassandra was the name of someone who creeped the fuck out of me, once upon a time, by being overly passionate/friendly/interested. No relevance, just that I'm ready to be creeped out by a piece of software too.
2. Installing all the basic shit takes time. Like, real time. why hasn't this shit been automated? Just add the freaking docker of your proj for me, m8.
Oh, I should check docker out in more depth too. *takes notes*
Off to install scala.
3. Spark seems interesting so far. Let's see how far I get with it.
4. Why did the day finish so early? Oh, why God, why? I still have so much to do! So much to install! 😢
Tomorrow is Monday. 😭
5. (Or 3.1) Why the fuck can't I install spark on Ubuntu like any other packages? Fucking Apache, man!
6. (or 1.1) yo guys, keep looking for projs: Make a cool Linux app as/for Cassandra workbench. Something like mysql workbench, just works with Cassandra. You can probably fit any other nosql DB in it too.3
After previous rant (https://lynkz.me/9xAFVZ9) he told me to be as close as possible to the design from the designer. There was on the left side a BarCode, which made no sense. So I didn’t add it. Now today (saturday) he told me I need to add the barcode because it looks classy. I told him we had a QR code already with same data. His anwser, yeah but it looks better with Barcode added too. Just f*** off! Your classy, shitty barcode will have a great price as it’s weekend. Thanks @linuxxx for the url shortner, it’s awesome!9
A client brought us a project once related to drones. Our team came up with a great solution for the problem and pitched it back to the client. After going back and forth and beating us up on the price, they ultimately got cold feet and stopped responding to us.
Flash forward several months and wouldn't you know it, NASA and Lockhead Martin have the same idea and file the patent. Could have been sitting pretty if the client just went through and filed our design first which would have barely cost anything.2
So that new keyboard I bought? They sent me a French azerty instead of a Belgian azerty layout. Meaning the special keys are in the wrong places.
It's from a third party vendor. Here was me thinking I was getting a good deal on a second hand product in a box that had been opened but returned. Think I can guess why that happened.
I contacted support who will contact the third party but I have a bad feeling about this already. Both the third party and website where I ordered this are Dutch and they are used to Qwerty. Guess I should have bought on a Belgian website at full price :(5
I need you guys' help.
As mentioned earlier in one of my rants, I trade stocks part time, make a little money. But I am too tired from my full time work. So it is badly affecting my health. My broker is providing us with an API and docs at a monthly fee to develop software to automate trades.
I posted a job on Upwork, a few freelancers bid but their price was way beyond my budget.
Hence I decided to take up programming.
I was initially inclined towards C#, but seeing as how complex it is, I was thinking of going for python. Do you think it is a reasonable decision?12
A lot of people have some very unrealistic expectations when it comes to cheap technology. You just can not expect to pay bottom price and get high quality results at the same time...2
Beginning my dev career in a few weeks. Now it's the time to decide which weapons I should bring to the war.
So, devRant: MacBook Pro or ThinkPad (in the same price range)?23
In the spirit of week93:
If you haven’t read/heard about the attack on HB Gary Federal (a computer security company) in 2011 and you want a good read about a DDOS attack, social engineering, espionage, and the “infiltration of Anonymous” by a very punchable CEO you should check out this article:
And the follow up by Anonymous:
So to everyone crying about the price of the new iPhone X:
If people have the money and they will enjoy it.. Just let them. Do you complain every time your neighbour gets himself a new Audi when he could also just drive a Dacia? Just mind your own business.
I'm not gonna buy this shit either but I won't judge other people by doing so.
Every year the same mindless Apple-bashing. It's just senseless11
@lazyDev reminded me of the time my bid for a project was rejected because I'm a white man. Never mind the fact that I have built my career around data management, visualisation and modelling and the only other competing bid was from someone who had experience in mobile development and little else. I checked up on the company and the project just now, and they've posted the project up again. I've made a bid just like I did before, only this time I've tripled my price. Let's see if they change their minds.3
manager: i heard that bitcoins' price just dropped. can you teach me how to trade bitcoins?
*apparently he saw me taking the blockchain trainings provided by the company. told him i only know they work but not trading. i feel like he's so disappointed1
If you could go ahead and decide your product pricing instead of having me publish the wrong pricing and get all your customers excited only for them to see you double the price later? That'd be greeeeaaaat. M'kay?
P.S. I make money when you make money. You're gonna lose money now. Lots of it.1
At a previous company, we got stock options. My options wouldn't have made me a millionaire but it wasn't chump change, either.
For months, we went through the whole "we can't say we're going public but watch what you say" game.
One Monday, they called us down by groups to one of the large conference rooms to tell us paperwork was filed, that we were in a blackout period, and, oh, by the way, all those stock options were split 1-for-2 (half the stocks at twice the price.)
I really wanted to punch those smug motherfuckers when I watched them ringing the bell on the balcony of the NYSE.3
When a client keeps trying to bring down the price and then keeps adding on changes needed to be made to his website....really about to just walk away. FMDL3
so when someone in the office finds a funny design or absurd code on our sites we play a game we named roulette: we check the versioning system and find who did it... there is no price in this game, that shame is enough :)3
I found a cooler master atx with built in power for like half the price of a cm atx and a cm power supply yay2
And Linus goes best GPU under 500$ bla bla bla. In other countries, you times that price by the exchange rate, then tax, and fuck it's 2k. And I make like 3k per month as a dev. That's not even 1k USD..
Anaconda. Quite fitting a name to something that fucks up python environments so thoroughly. Ironic too, given that it was meant to simplify. Anaconda doesn't give a shit about the python that came with the distro. And all packages installed with pip are only visible to anacondas python. Not a single note of caution during installation. Or a best practices guide for the newbie. Just chaos. Utter chaos. The price of being a noob had been paid.5
First time developing an Android app using Android Studio. I wanted to see how it is to make a mobile app. It's very simple, doesn't wow with design and calculates price discounts. First time using Java too, which was cool. Biggest annoyance? Making fields and buttons "responsive" to different screen sizes!1
I would love to hear which phone you use and how your opinion about it is because I have to buy a new one.
My Price Range is about 350€19
Is a 2017 MacBook Air good enough for web development and for working in IntelliJ IDEA, Android studio & XCode?
I'll be building a PC with Ryzen 7 and Vega for performance intensive tasks later. I need a laptop with good build quality under $1000.
If you know any good windows laptop in this price range please let me know :)10
Somewhere on upwork post online.
1. Require backend architecting done for Twitter like app. <more details on app >
2. Client budget: fixed price, 200$
Freelance developers, how do you get clients?
I am developing apps/websites with a friend and so far er have found our clients mainly on project-listing sites (sites like freelancer.com). My experience is though, that it always becomes a price-race, and with many projects only being small static websites, it just doesn't seem that this is the way to Go.
So if any of you have suggestions on how and where to find larger/more serious clients that will be much appreciated - it should be said that we already have quite a few projects to show in our portfolio, so I think we are ready to take on some larger projects6
Hi guys... So I need a bit of advise.
I'm making my first app, it's an app for a university..
I pitched the idea to the uni director and he really liked it, and I have to do an actual presentation in about a week..
Basically I don't know how to price it... How do you guys price your apps?13
Service's like freelance and people per hour are a farce. It's just a constant race to the bottom price-wise.
'Yeah sure I can make you a blog website in 24 hours for £5'
Ordered a slightly watered down version of my planned PC. Let's wait for Cyber Monday for buyer's remorse!
Either way, paid half price of the planned rig for 80% of the same performance.
See attached specs. Already have a hard drive and PSU, and for now will be reusing my GTS 250.8
Both of my friends uses a mac.
Friend1. For Final Cut Pro.
And I am just a Windows guy....
(sobs in the corner)3
The laptop retailer sent me an email today that they had to give me a newer model 8570p instead of 8560p, same price. There was also a disclaimer saying that the mentioned specs are the minimum ones and that what i get could have more powerful specs. I wish all computer stores were like this.
miniRant: fuck ISPs who sent with their network gear ethernet cables that are too short, especially when using laptops.
I know everyone hates when people ask them for help with fixing IT related stuff.
I have a different approach to all similar questions. I don't get upset or anything, I just tell them that the device they have is a little bit shit, and suggest them buying a new expensive one that is better and will do all that. Your router isn't working as you want? Buy a Cisco (a real one with $1k+ price tag, not that Cisco branded Linksys garbage). Your printer isn't working as you want? Buy some high end Brother stuff. Etc...
After first few times they just stop asking...2
Another "here's my idea, build it for free" posts. Where do these people come from? Also, I know the poster said $15/hr is a deal, and it is, but I don't price my work anywhere near that low. Does this seem normal to anyone?
Good luck bitcoin investors, we, the South Korea government hate you investing in bitcoins.
Stock Android rant
Friend: your phone looks different
Me: yah running stock android
Friend:where is the file manager and it looks weird
Me:that's the price of using stock android
Friend:what's stock android btw
Me:it's clutter free software from Google
Friend:what is clutter free and I don't like it though
Me:I finally give up on him and have my phone back2
Starting the day with Management complaining about budget and how R&D spends a lot. I start talking about the form to get a machine to a developer, that requires detailed information about the specs, proper justification, provide price comparison, fields of text which I know their departments will not check or fully comprehend BUT administration type departments always get the latest MacBook when their work literally involves little more than read emails, PDFs, write word documents and not high demanding software tools. R&D colleague suggests that a Raspberry pi would suffice for what administration personal needs out of a PC.
Management didn't comment.2
Just in curiosity. How many devs here are use *only* laptop but no full set computer at home? Is it sufficient for daily programming and probably a little gaming?
I used to be a full set computer lover. But now laptops provide sufficeint compuing power with affordable price. Plus I am expecting quite frequent relocation in next few years. So I am considering buy a laptop and hoping it can be useful for 5+ years.
It's not a real dev regret but it's related to it: Not being able to fix a price or a value for my skills.
It's a real regret.
Just coming out of college I have tried my hand at freelancing at found it real hard to fix a value for what work was offered because I just found it weird to fix a monetary value on something that I've done for free for my entire life ( at school and uni I mean).
To make it worse my first experience was with a grad student who wanted me to complete her project.
Now being from India, I know that we have a stereotype of doing work for a lower price.
But this girl took the cake.
She wanted me to create a custom Image classifier using tensorflow.
It had to train with live images and then detect those images in the live video feed.
It's quite simple but still training the basic network(which would be used to just detect features) would take a decent amount of time and effort.
No pre trained models was also a prerequisite for her.
After hearing all her requirements I asked her what price she was willing to pay.
She said 50$ lump sum.
Being really confused as to what to say to that I just stopped replying.
To this day I have no clue what would be a reasonable price to quote a client like that.
After that I just continued dealing with people I knew personally and am currently doing that as an internship. But entering the proper freelancing system again has become a kinda weird thing in my head now, since I have no clue as to what price to put on my skills.
Is there any advice that any of the more experienced people would give?
Also consider the fact that I'm relatively fresh out of college and have no corporate experience.
Even if you've read my rant and have no advice it's okay. I guess this is a path of self realization after all.3
Why is cd so anoying. I tried serval stuff with all kind of setups. But everything just doesn't work good or really expensive. I just want a easy way to have a develop and production environment without to much problems or an high price card.
Does anyone havr any tips. Already wasted so much time on it8
I've got 2 questions.
1. Are there any laptops better than a maxed out Dell XPS 15 for a similar price?
2. Once I buy my new laptop I want to experiment with Linux (never used it before). Is there some really good tutorial out there to help me get it working and figure out how it works and what the best way to use it is?8
Invested into Monero some ago because everyone here was blaiming he didn't invested into Bitcoin when it was cheap (and, of course, because I ever wanted to for a long time now; Monero has a very well designed concept).
Last night the price nearly doubled!
Guys, I got it! I made some money out of sheer luck and a strong believe in the greed of investors!4
There was a hidden input with the calculated price from the client. It was passed to the backend. It was not validated on the backend. The customer was charged that amount. It would have taken a long time to fix...
Suit on, tie on, first meeting on a web project I quoted on 16 months ago (and won). frantically wading through notes and quote from the time. Think i’ll just wing it and up the price a bit.
Am currently developing an app which uses an IaaS named Auth0. Great experience so far, reasonable docs, unlimited users, social login, sso and support for about $29/m.
After an inquiry from a customer to provide MFA, I contacted Auth0 to see what it would take to use this feature.
"We only offer this in our Enterprise plan which starts at $18k/yr."
Well, fuck me with a pitchfork and call me Bridget the midget. I'll code it my goddamn self.1
I am a human being... I have feelings... I have a family who love me... I have friends who hang out with me...
I am treated worse than Katie Price (for American readers insert some talented hoe with a penchant for plastic surgery).
My name is Andy and I am a Project Manager *sobs*
This is Project Managers Anonymous ... Isn't it?????? 😕3
I've just started freelancing on PeoplePerHour. I'm in talks to secure a job migrating a C# webapp to a desktop scenario using HTML5 embedded within WPF, but I've never done this as a solo project before. What sort of price is sensible to charge for this? I'm working in GBP1
Holding back so hard on getting a new laptop.
We are so close to getting the hardware i want at the price I can accept.2
What programming language do you guys think the price check machines on the poles are coded in at retail stores like Walmart?1
When a client told you how easy the feature is and he could've gotten a cheaper price from other developers but prefer to let you do it.1
This little cute RoboHon could be the perfect debugger replacing the rubber duck!
Amazon's stock price is a better uptime indicator than their fucking status page.
I am traumatized a bit by seeing so many web applications being "hacked" together by WP integrators.
We see a lot of shit applications when companies knock on our door to have a look at their "sick" systems built on shit like that.
Usually when we feel sorry for the company we stage it up. If freak WP applications had a proper debug log, the first line would read: [WARNING] Put me out of my misery. 😵
Worst of all is that usually we could've built the webapp for half the price the customer spent originally with a proper framework and architecture.3
Just this tiny website, that's a complete database of all cars ever created, of course with every variant and different versions through the years.
Supposed to be searchable, so that a you can compare cars with in a class or by features or something completely different.
And final icing, it should have crawlers, searching used-car-sites, to inform the user of changes is price over time.3
Listening to clients & producing goods for a ridiculously cheap price & still manage to get yelled at. I swear everyone wants shit done for free. That's the amazing part of being a developer :)1
I just saw a rant about a fix price website request and I wonder if anyone creates websites for a fix price in some cases.2
Having lost my watch recently (a small swatch thingy), I'm in the market for a new one. While I can get by without a watch perfectly well by simply checking my phone for the time, I was thinking of getting a smartwatch at some point. Is it worth getting a smartwatch just yet, or should I wait and get a cheap Casio until better smartwatches are available? (I have a Moto G.) If it's worth it, clearly this weekend is a good time to buy, as some pebbles are half price and the Moto 360 is slightly reduced.8
Need advice guys :)
just bought myself a nice domainname, and now I'm looking for a good email provider I can use for my domain.
Any of you can point me in the right direction? It can come at a price, as long as it is not too much, but I'm well aware quality service does not come free...10
I just love when a client sends me a picture of text, then complains when the price of the project goes up. Time is money.
Thinking of #password requirements: MumbaiNawazuddinSiddiqui123 is a valid password no? Has a capital, special character and numbers?7
Why do people think Apple is ripping you off when Samsung is selling you at 3/4 the price of an iPhone BUT without full hardware AND software integration?6
Dear RFP lady: Yeah, I'd love to help you - but I already know for a fact - that after I spend 3 hours pricing out your half-brained project - you'll just use my insight to drive up the price and then I'll never hear from you again. And btw, I see how those projects turn out. Not well.2
Fuck off slickplan. Your subscription model is not for the little guy. i love your site map builder, but I cant justify $118 a year for my 6-8 annual site maps. i’ll use keynote. if you price stuff properly then you’d have more subscribers. greedy cunts. it tends to be the way with a lot of online services. people will gladly pay, but it’s gotta be of value. you think twice when you start getting pricey.
I need opinions: Amazon Fire Stick or Google Chromecast?
I want Hulu, Netflix, Crunchy Roll, Amazon Prime TV, and WWE Network.
I welcome all opinions. Remote strength, price, ease of use, and stability are my main concerns.
I also might jail break it and/or try to develop apps for it.
Sorry if a repost but this is a random thought from an alcohol addled mind.
I would use a laptop on every tv, but cost vs benefit says no.3
@dfox, dude did you jack the price of the skull tee by 1000++ 🤔
I wanted that fucker bad and you moved the post haha or was that @trogus?10
Guys, can any of you give me objective insights whether switching from Ubuntu + Windows to MacBook will be worth it?
I'd really love to be able to use designing tools like Photoshop and Illustrator while doing web development works at the same time, but I'm not sure whether it's worth the price. What do you think?5
Question: If you are making an API for your Android App. Let say you have total of 50 rows currently and you have to sort a table column by price in ASC order.
Will you do the sorting in the Android App or Server side?14
Hardware Nerd Rant...
Spend nearly a year waiting for a super high end developer laptop. Tricked out MacBook Pro 2016: $4200+, Tricked out Surface Book 2/i7, $3700+
No 32GB ram because of Intel power consumption pre-Cannonlake. Mac doesn't have a touchscreen at its price point...
My gut ultimately says: NOPE.JPG
General hope is for GPU Docks like the Razer Core to come to Apple in 2017. Thoughts?10
I love the fact that there are now toys that I can get my kids and young family members to get them to program early and maybe understand a bit what I do. I so wish that existed when I was a kid- stuff even easier than Logo.
Google selling the pixel for around £600.. For that price that phone better be able to take me to the moon..shiii.2
Im planning to buy a 3D printer soon, and I got a budget about 150$ and I could go higher a bit maybe. So do you guys know any nice 3D printers for that price?5
Was looking at devRant ducks, then saw the shipping price. 😭. 16 Bucks... Wishing for cheaper shipping this Christmas...4
Is buying macbook worth it? I mewn thre are a lot of laptops under vwry low price range that look like macbook and have far better specs14
Programming + music = in the zone
I am looking at Bluetooth in ear headphones and really like the look of BeatsX with the quick charge feature but unsure about the price.
Does anyone have them? What do you think? Worth it?3
About a year ago when I started at my apprenticeship I was asked to turn on the plugins for our ecommerce websites... I clicked uploaded price on the 3 websites and 2 ebay stores by accident.... That took a week of going though and changing all the prices back to what they should have been
Look, I get that you want your front to be really, really, reallyyyy fancy! But when that fanciness comes at a price, more specifically speed! Then we're going to have a problem. Look... Not everyone has super fast internet, and when your website thinks it's better to load the entire website and not the sign in first, then we're going to have issues.
No it doesn't work that way. I don't want to be mounted by ads, Let me IN quickly and quietly, and we won't have any issues.
TLDR Front End developers like squeaky shiny and clean, but neglect the sign-in dialog
These cloudways people are crazy. I tried a trial on them, only to learn that we don't get root access to the server which they never really mentioned anywhere.
Also, they hiked the price like 20℅ on starter plans, which again was only shown i logged in.
And this guy has been emailing me since last 2 weeks, telling how couldn't call them or contact me. I'm so glad. I never replied and he still emails asking for feedback!
I legitimately feel like I'm getting stalked.. :|
I'll give feedback , maybe 1000 years later!
All these broke ass people complaining about how fucking expensive Mac's and iPhone's are..
YES IT HAS A HIGHER PRICE TAG THAN THE OTHER LAPTOPS/PHONES!
But you get so much for it!!! They put so much R&D into it and they use only quality hardware!! They literally design how the hardware should work. They provide a "free" OS (I said free but it's included into the price of course).
I got my first macbook pro (2011) almost 5 years ago, and this fucking thing still running everyday as my dev machine!!
Y'all can suck it and suffer with a dell or w/e.
Ps: to the linux users, this rant is not for you.16
*accidentally caught up with one of our marketing guys at a customer meeting in a public place *
*selling one of our POS *
*at the end of the presentation *
customer : the price is too high!!
*price was actually too high as of my knowledge about market. i was about leaving *
*our guy appears with a magic wand and makes 3 versions of that POS which I also developed as a part of team and i don't know of*
our guy: come on!! it's just the full enterprise version that i showed u. we have more blah blah versions. u don't need this, this and that. i think this blah version will suit ur needs well nd it costs lesser.
*i was like wat the fu......*😲
Both laptops have the same price.

(already used) MacBook Air 250GB SSD Nvidia Graphics 4GB RAM Intel Core i5 Processor
(brand new) HP Pavilon 1TB HDD Nvidia Graphics 12GB RAM Intel Core i7 Processor.32
Hi, please advise me on your best price/quality reseller of supermicro servers, no refurbished, preferrably germany cause they are cheaper compared in belgium...1
I recently got an Asus K53S for free, without HDD/SSD.
Im looking to purchase a cheap but kinda reliable and fast SSD, at 64GB or more. Money is an issue, and the laptop is just for pure fun, so id rather get bad quality and save some cash, rather than spending alot.
Does anyone know where i can purchase that, or have experience with cheap/trash SSDs? Any recommendations appreciated.
If its shipped from outside EU, the price should be $12 or less, and i doubt thats possible.38
Building a computer on part picker but then realizing that the price is in USD and you're going to be paying around $1500 instead of around $1000
Ayy. It's time. Someone wants to hire me to make a site for them...
How much do I charge? 😭. They also said they want it as an exclusive design that I can't do for anyone else. It's one of my first proper ones so its basically my baby
But yeah. How much is appropriate?
Do bare in mind that I'm broke af 😂. Suggestions in GBP please6
In general why do many companies hide the price of things like renewals, upkeep, etc. Just tell me how much urgh1
I’m going to get my first own apartment in April
So at the moment I’m searching for an adequate ISP cause at home it’s horrible
My budget for that is pretty good so I want to get the best I can get
But every provider I look at has a maximum of 100mbps
In comparison to my current speed this would be awesome but there is actually one provider that offers me 400mps for a pretty good price
Am I wrong or are they all using the same cables? Are all the others dumb or is the one actually kidding me? 🤔4
We need an idea to make some AI for a students-competition. I bet this would be worth a first price 😂6
I know the price to get 13Kg of cargo to Mars, why do I have to get a quote from a sales person for some dumbass web app?
As usual, the million-dollar question: whats the best laptop to buy for developers, in the price range up to $1,500?
I'm between a 2015 Macbook Pro, the new Dell Latitude or the Thinkpad T460 😕11
Gotta love waking up to a notification from Apple Seed saying "iMac Pro is now available."
Since I did sales I knew some pricing ahead of time, but after looking at the upgrades and the max price, all I can say is, what the fuck.
Welp, that was enough of Apple for the day.5
Need some advice
Hey everyone! I'm just starting out in web design as a freelancer. What according to you is a good starting price I should charge a client?
I've got a client asking for prices and I'm not sure what to charge.
Any other tips would be appreciated :)3
Someone testing the project i am working on with an iPad came over and started swiping up and down the screen and said look I can't see the price update when I click here.
Well move your fucking hand!1
So, I'm looking for a new laptop for college. I'll be doing some code, course work and some light gaming. Any recommendations? Price ranges are variable, although "best bang for the buck" deals are appreciated.7
Ok so i have two laptops, one has One slot with ddr3 4gb ram and is way too slow for school, the other one is 5years old but fast as hell but has a dead battery. Should i buy a 8gb bank or a new battery. Providing the price is roughly the same.. ??5
Would you rather get the current Macbook Pro at a discount, or wait for the new one that ditches the MagSafe and all the other ports for the USB-c at full price when it comes out?19
Any of you ranters wanted to get into electronics but never really had the right guidance?
Well check out humble DIY Electronics Books and help out charity at the same time :) https://humblebundle.com/books/...?
Got plenty of these bundles, and whilst one or two books might not be great. For the price you pay you are getting a shit ton of knowledge - better than any Udemy course you'll ever buy for the same price :D
I had to work on a new apache server, after 3 hours of trying to figure out why this price of cap doesn't obey my will, I found out the SElinux in on(fuck you mode)
Whyyy has to be the price in xml import in format impossible to parse. Please use a fucking dot next time, thanks!8
What's the best laptop for coding and programming. Especially for software engineering, fullstack development and making android apps etc. I want it to be able to develop anything on it apps games websites etc. Suggest a budget model and a price doesn't matter but still realistic model.6
So I do some custom integrations for a local bank. A customer is referred to me by the Bank, we failed to o agree on the price by about 100usd. The customer the goes to some old timer who doesn't even know the difference between php and asp. Then new 'dev' can't figure out how to do the integration and then turns to me to do the work for him for 1/3 of what I had charged the client. Don't know if I should tell him to go to hell or call the customer and ask him to get a hire someone who can differentiate between his nose and ass hole.1
Do you know where to get Windows App Signing Keys for a reasonable price?
The cheapest ones I've found were still ~€150 per year, too much for a proof-of-concept :( Not signing the app is not an option...14
Importing data from 1 system to another with minimal documentation. I need to map the price field in the new system from price1 in the old system... or is it price2?... or price3?, or is it cost?
Well fuck you too.
Anyone have experience with non ARM Single board computers like the LattePanda for a price of around 80$ - 100$? The Board should be a server with a bit more power but it should save electricity. We have already six RPi and two Banana Pis...
NOT A RANT:
I am switching my job and they have workstations and I have to buy a laptop.
Can any body suggest a good hp laptop for development with not high price.10
Functions with all Get/Post data as parameters like this
public function qwerty($params)
return $params['item']['price']* 2;
I'm developing a Prestashop module, and I'm adding and removing products from the cart.
Whenever I try to get the shipping price, I get the value I had before the change...2
"dont bother with unit tests we dont have budget for those" - still paying the price for naively following that one, every svn merge is a bastard now1
Does anyone else share the love for lenovo laptopd when it comes to coding? Price, specs and sexy keyboard :o3
It was a bad day :(
asked godaddy support if I could recover my files from a accidentally deleted ftp account.
They said yes we have that and we can recover those files but these servives are not free, price is only 149.99$.
Fuck I could make a new site in that much ammount
The client asks for an online booking system for his holiday bungalow. I made a very good price for him but he wonders why it costs so much because I can just copy the calendar from an excel file and place it on the site, can't I?
The problem with LibreOffice is that is some respects, you get what you pay for. Like number formats that just get dropped every time you reload a spreadsheet.
Still, it's worth more than the price. Unlike GIMP, where even free is too expensive (used it for a few days, but I admit that spending time on it was my own fault).3
Learnt programming after taking Mark Price IOS developer course! From there I learnt the fundamentals and continued building up my knowledge to where I am today.
I just finished the first micro client project for my startup. Client communications and bureaucracy took much longer than implementation, and (because of that) the price I asked for was too low, but it feels really good :)1
Fuckin damn it Google! I setup a transparent proxy and for some fucking reason Google home doesn't like that at all. I think I have a fix but it's a real fucking pain in the ass. I call your support people who I specifically tell that I'm running a fucking proxy and they tell me that I need to talk to their Google WiFi team. It has nothing Todo with my fucking wifi bitch. Its your price of shit price of crap hardware that doesn't like fucking proxies.
I'll update everyone what the fix is when I find it.
Btw, this is a HTTPS transparent proxy and HTTP transparent proxy running on my pFSense firewall box.1
If you've ever had to do hiring (technical side) of new software developer\s, the seniority in terms of working years is the most valuable criteria for you or the hiring department, or there's else?
On my side I'm a software developer from around 1 year and here (in Italy) your price is, from what I've seen, based on the seniority in terms of time, rarely actual skills\adaptability.
I'm good as a full stack developer and I'm proficient in adapting\learning to-new\new skills about new languages and Frameworks.
Soon I'm leaving my underpaying job with good output from my work\projects, but I'm faced with this seniority nonsense that makes most of the recruiters silent because the new price is similar of someone with high seniority, and I'm kinda tired of this, so I'm here to hear your thoughts about this.
Tip of the year? I bought an iPhone 7 because the battery in my 3 year old iPhone 5s was very bad. It had less than 25% of its original capacity.
I gave the 5s to my son but quickly realized that he could not use a phone with such a bad battery. We therefore considered buying him a brand new 5s.
Luckily I found out that repair shops can actually replace the battery! I thought that this was not possible. So now my son has a 'new' iPhone 5s for 1/10 of the price of a new 😄1
Hi, guys. I'm looking to get into Android development (Xamarin) and to build some simple apps first.
What I have in mind is something trivia-like, with a hosted database (can't find any free & reliable public APIs).
Do you know of any free downloadable databases on the topics of:
http://www.usabledatabases.com/ seemed promising, but it's not free (or I couldn't find any free DBs, as they don't have a price filter).
Thanks in advance!
not only apple has good price on its products, but these dudes as well can pay you more money than it really costed. and if you didn't have enough they buy TOP CASH
and what's best they will pay you for icloud and passwor for real !1
This is not really a developer thing but has anyone bought the Anet A8 3D printer from GearBest? And if so what is your opinion and can you recommend it? It is currently priced at about 170$ (160€) and for that price it looks quite good.
Open Ye Olde Dev Shoppe, where we hand-code artisian programs that AI could make, except slower, and for twice the price. And where we also serve coffee made by a human barista.
