Until now I've never thought of putting stickers on my laptop. Always preferred it to be clean, but with all those cool stickers on all your laptops... It made me wanna put as many stickers as possible and since devRant stickers looked lonely, I've decided to print some of my own. On other side I wantedthem to be useful for me so I grabbed a handful of NFC stickers and designed links and required shortcuts for my phones to run with them on touch. for example if I need a hotspot on my mobile to be activated quickly, I just put my phone against the WIFI sticker and bingo! And yes, devRant logo opens devRant app))5

Google Pay is about to support PayPal as virtual card (at least in Germany)
That's quite the finger to the local banks here
I like it11 -
Fuck you apple, and fuck your god damn shitty documentation.
Working with NFC enabled passes, their documentation says "payload max is 64 bytes"
What they ACTUALLY fucking mean is 64 ascii characters.
Also, the way they handle date time formats is fucked. They say they support W3C formats (iso) but what they actually mean is, they support a half assed version of a subset of it.
I told their chief engineer over a phone call and his response;
"I agree, our documentation is lacking"... HOW ABOUT YOU FUCKING UPDATE IT!
Also, how they handle json is just bad.7 -
Is there a specific reason your company is called 'Hexical Labs'? If so, could you share the story of where it comes from?2

Me: Ok time to save money, have a trip to melbourne coming up, save for a house, car and wedding... Brilliant...
Internet: Oh hey you know how you wanted a smartwatch that was not sporty looking and has NFC, heres the Ticwatch C2!
Me: I hate my life...
Internet: also heres some of the programming theory books you wanted on sale!
Me: starts tying noose
Why must saving money be so bloody hard when everything you've wanted just pops up .-.3 -

Client: Let's get our car online using the phone as the router!
Me: let's do that!
Client: Can we use NFC as the protocol?
Me: Probably, but just to automate the connection..
Client: No we should use NFC for the entire session!
Me: No!
Client: Why not? It's new, it's happening, bosses will be excited!
Me: You do know what the N in NFC stands for right!
Client: New?
Me: -_- thinking "I hope you lose your genitals to a horrible case of blue waffles.."8 -
The program 'x' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt install x.
Wow, thanks! I didn't know! I've always wanted to know how to install programs with apt.10 -
Anybody tried Project Fugu the new browser api's from google which let's progressive webapps access the users filesystem, contacts, computer vision, nfc, geo fencing and launch other apps?

I really feel like coding right now, but I don't have time. Problem is: when I do have time and I have to code I probably don't want to anymore.

Not a rant, but I think it's really cool, so I just wanted to share this with you guys. I recently went to a small symposium by an alumnus of my university. He uses the program Mandelbulb3d to explore the wondrous world of fractals. He's recently started to apply Neural Style Transfer to fractals. His website is julius-horsthuis.com.
↓ this is 1 (composite) formula, by the way1 -
I was on the train and a woman came aboard. The only available seat was next to me. She takes this huge laptop out of her bag. While I observed this, I thought: she's going to code. She logged in and.. GitLab! She was writing R code.

So it's a sad day that I say goodbye to my moto 360 gen 2, purchased a ticwatch C2 and here's hoping the OLED screen and NFC capabilities are worth giving up my favourite watch...13

Okay, so yesterday was crazy. So crazy, in fact, that I'm not even typing this on my phone. I'm typing it on an LG G4.
So, I took an Uber out to a Sprint store I'd been told did repairs. My phone's vibrator was broken. So, basically I thought just like that R&M episode "20 minutes adventure in and out" - only to find out they'd need to wipe my goddamn phone, and then send it to Texas. I now have to wait 6 days for my phone lmfao.
So, in the meantime, they took an hour to get me this G4 which makes me miss all the finer things in life - I miss my USB-C and not having to give a damn about how I plug it in and I miss my fingerprint reader (I know, I'm a lazy fuck with first-world problems. I don't care to hear about how fucking stupid I am for either of those thoughts, STFU). Also the G4 is prone to hardware failures, so they said they weren't too happy about giving me this, but it's the only one with NFC.
So in the middle of setup, the Sprint store's power went out. FUUUUUUCK. The phone was pretty much at 5% battery and was being slow as hell, so you can just about imagine the irritation me and this guy had when the phone died in the middle of setup.
The next thing is an unrelated story, but I'm sure some of you older guys here will love this. I was at a place called Triangle Park last night. I go there for burgers, but they also have a bar. Sometimes I get sent to the bar and the bartender gets me my food. So last night I went to pick the food up from the bar for takeout.
The bartender must've had an accident and messed something up, so she told me to sit at the bar. I thought it was obvious I was only 19, so I barely sat. I'm literally not old enough to sit at the bar, even though when I was younger my dad and his friends used to let me sit with them because I had a history of saying stupid shit that made his friends laugh. Nonetheless, I sat with my ass hanging off the edge because I knew it was wrong :/
She comes back and asks what type of drink I want. I had to tell her that I was 19. I wasn't gonna sit here and lie because I'm pretty sure she could've lost her job for serving a minor. I exited and waited in the lobby.
But are we at the point where 19-year-olds look like 25-year-olds? I don't want to think about this because it means I'm getting older. That's a lot to take in. Later in the night it was still gnawing at my gut.
Yesterday was one hella day man.5 -
Oh boy the schools in the Netherlands have began again, the amount of people in the train is insane... (Also one of my biggest annoyances is) the way how people pile on top of the check-in checkout poles... They try to do it as fast as possible, but because it is an unstructured pile of garbage... It takes way too long...
Is it so hard to stand in a line and just keep your card STIL AND CORRECTLY INFRONT OF THE NFC READER!?
apparently it is because I see people slamming their wallets against it, moving it around wildly and keeping up the line being Angry why the reader can't detect their card... In their wallet, probably between multiple other NFC cards within a second (BECAUSE YOU KEEP MOVING IT FROM THE READER TO THE FUCKING SCREEN!!! WTF)2 -
So I started to hear a noise on my headphones which I didn't know where it was coming from. It wasn't much of a noise but a regular sequence of "beeps", seemed like 8bit sfx. So I started moving my cable around and it turns out that if I put the headphone's cable under my phone at a specific spot I can hear the noise. Seems like some kind of interference, so the first thing that I thought of is the NFC sensor. So I remembered that an app would detect my credit card (which has NFC) if it was close to the back of my phone, so I put on my headphones and put the cable between the phone and the credit card and voila, the sound changes. It only works if the headphones are be plugged in though.
Idk why but it think this is really cool. Just wanted to share :)2 -
I just noticed that my hotel room card is a simple, unprotected NFC card that has a whopping 8x8x16=1024 bit allocated. If I had another NFC tag with my I'd be tempted to copy it and play around with it a bit...12

I was just begged to play 30 minutes of monopoly with my family
With all those versions of monopoly I'll have to be more precice, it's the worst of them all
It's monopoly fucking zapped, you need an ios device to play it, it's been developed for the iPhone 4 and maybe a tablet because they didn't even update it for current phones, not even iPhone 5
The credit cards are a fucking joke, they work by touching certain parts of the touchscreen and don't work 85% of the time you try to use them, 5% of the time just choosing the wrong person
At least your relieved when 10% chance kicks in where it works for once
Instead they could developed for Android and used nfc tags making it reliable and fun, no it has to be shitty, cheap and frustrating
Like seriously, they could've also used qr codes instead, or just have fucking buttons on the screen because you need the fucking ios app anyway
The minigames are at least a bit of thought, but don't really make sense either
Money doesn't seem to matter, sometimes paying another player when it shouldve been pay to the bank (yeah, not only the credit cards are fucked, the whole money system is shit)
It's a fucking abomination of a game
Halfway through I searched for the company name on the board...
...
....
ITS FUCKING HASBRO, OF COURSE IT'S FUCKING HASBRO THAT FUCKING PEACE OF SHIT FUCKING COMPANY THAT DESERVES TO ROT IN HELL HAVING CREDIT CARDS STUFFED UP THEIR FUCKING ASSESundefined never again fuck them all to death bullshit hatred fucked up devil profanity i fucking hate hasbro hasbro7 -
Everytime I want to say/write NFC Tag, I have to pause for a sec to consider if it's NFC or NFT.
Drives me crazy everytime.
And then, of course, I say NFT.5 -
I hacked port authority administration computers using enable Bluetooth flip phone ,then I changed background pic in all computers on network, and put an mp3 song on startup folder, turn volume to the max, gues the rest, they were using window xp ,and told their manager she gave me a job on spot , and was very interested, and that where my journey begun

Fuck you safari for automatically converting UTF-8 NFD characters to UTF-8 NFC characters. Cost us like an hour debugging!

Mobvoi just launched the new Ticwatch S2/E2. Currently have the S1.
This FAQ page has me scratching my head. Guess their documentation team wrote part of this before they decided to pull the NFC feature?
Maybe?
If so, that's something in common with my company 🤣1 -
I did it. I switched from Android to iPhone. Why? Because they came out with a new UI and features with the iPhone X and it’s been 3 years since I’ve owned an iPhone; I don’t like to be left out of new tech.
I already don’t care for it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautifully designed phone. The clicks, haptic, and general feel of the phone is great and so is the X’s different UI. But the features? I feel like I’ve gone backwards a few years from where my Galaxy S8 got me. Facial recognition is actually great, but I could have had that with my GS8, but I preferred iris scan.
I forgot my wallet at home and wanted to buy a drink from the drug store by my work. I usually use Samsung pay which uses MFC & NFC so I can just use it with any magnetic reader; no says iPhone. I try to unlock my phone in the car, but there’s not trusted device option like in Android, so I unsafely struggle. I want to sign into my gyms WiFi, but no sign in option pops up like in Android; I’ve got to pull up safari.
I fucking love my Apple Watch though.
It’s definitely better than the Android watches that I’ve tried, and that might keep my with an iPhone much ch longer than I want until a better Android watch comes out.
I just think it’s good not to fanboy anything. Be open, find all the pros and cons.3 -

Just learned the military regulations probably won't prevent me from getting an NFC implant because it's invisible so they don't give a damn!
Oh the adventures and hacking that can be! Think I'm gonna do it.16 -

What do you think about cash? Most people use cards or NFC, and I'm happy with the possibility of paying with both cash and cards, but I have friends who would like to see cash canceled altogether.7

Have any of you tried cloning NFC cards? I really want to try it out. Any advice or guidelines would be much appreciated.7
