After months of agonizing work I found out my team mate deleted my code cause they thought it was useless. Then they come back and ask if I KNOW WHERE THE BUG IS. I now realize how true this is.3

I took a programming class this semester in which a have to write code on paper, and the more I write, the more I agree. I give you my word-

Dear Santa,
I know I'm 11 months early, but I have an urgent request. Please, never make me have to do web development again. It has been 24 hours and I've had enough.
Lots of love,

I sometimes look at the code of the guy who had my job before me and I think.
Delete it.
Delete it all.
Delete it with fire.
Use the developer as kindling so it never happens again.9 -
Pointy Haired Boss: "There's an issue with this simple bit of that service, could you take a look?"
Me: "Sure, give me a minute to investigate"
*A minute later*
Me: "No wonder there's a problem, this code is horrendous! What idiot wrote this unmaintainable crap?"
PHB: "Doesn't matter, just fix it, test it and release it."
Me: "I just want to check who did it, so they never touch our code again."
*Checks SVN log*
Me: "Well, I guess I can never touch our code again."2 -

My team's program for the Coding Contest.
Seriously.
Need I say anything other than
List<KeyValuePair<int, KeyValuePair<int, ...>>>
and
var v = list.Key.Key.Key.Value
var w = list.Key.Key.Value
?
But eh, it worked for the contest, that code is never to be seen again haha11 -
I code, watch Big Bang Theory, sip coffee, and code again. I never leave the doorsteps except for my classes. Some say my life is sad.

Request: I don't like the way the page looks. Make it better.
Question: can you give me some more info? What is it that you dislike about the page? You approved the design, the mockup, the HTML version...and we just finished implementing the backend. Can you be more specific?
Response: make it more like this *gives link to completly new layout from a theme on themeforest*. Why does mine not look like this. Make it like this!
Reaction: *fuck this shit, never freelancing again...* Well, then do it yourself. I'm done!

Step 5: Never talk about using Internet Explorer again.3 -
Yesterday was the day.

HAVE YOU JUST TRIED TO BARGAIN ON MY ESTIMATE?!
I really hate when people try to bargain on my estimates. It's done when I say so. I really think it through before I tell you the deadline, so GO FUCK YOURSELF PLEASE AND SHUT THE FUCK UP. NEVER EVER BARGAIN ON THAT AGAIN.

Dumbest request?
Email piping chat system.
The chat system had to take replies from web and send them to an email, which the admin user can reply back via email and it publishes straight into the chat.
It was all fun and games until they wanted HTML based emails and content going back and forth, and attachments going both ways.4 -

When I was in 8th grade and was learning to code (c++), I sincerely believed that calling a function within a function simply calls it again (like in a loop) . I had never heard of recursion.
And I actually made a small project in which I called a function again and again thinking that calling another terminates the previous one.
No wonder my program kept crashing. I have still kept that code with me as a wonderful memory.
I know this isn't particularly interesting, but I just saw that code today and felt like sharing this...3 -

Isn't it just nice to throw away hours of work because you were given wrong requirements?
I worked late last night to finish a project with an incoming deadline, and for what? That's right, for fucking nothing. Hours wasted. Just because I was told the form was to be submitted to an endpoint that I would receive later on.
Turns out that what I actually need to do is embed some form from a third-party service. So the form that I already implemented (with styles and logic) isn't needed. What's worst, I have to redo all the styles to match this embed form.
Thank you so much for that. 🖕Never again will I work late. I should have known better by now... -
*Declines meeting an hour past working hours*

That's 10 hours of my life I probably won't get back, just glad I didn't do more now.4 -

> Advice to new coders
Don't worry over picking language A or B.
Just pick A, use it for a month, then move on to B.
In a normal 3 year college degree you'll try multiple languages, some of which you'll never use again, and they'll each teach you something.
I had classes in Java, C, C++, C#, Prolog, Assembler, F#, JS.
Never used F# again and no one uses Prolog. But they were great for learning recursion and logic.
It's not like you take "a step down a bad path" if you pick a language you're never gonna use again.
You'll also learn new stuff on the job. We have one team that uses Go and one that uses Rust. None of the devs ever studied those languages. They were mostly former Java devs who leaned on the job.2 -
How often do you experience someone pitching an idea they want developed, which is so poorly thought through that when you ask them to elaborate, they turn sour and you never hear from them again?5

Haven't used it since and hopefully never will again, but understanding recursion and keyboard input in Assembly (uni project)
After a long (4 days) sleepover with my friends, with 14 hours a day of slamming our heads against abstract registers, we could finally program the factorial and take floating numbers as input and output them on the screen. It was nothing but pain, but the moment we got it, the sky had opened before us :D

This is the last time Microsoft! I'm getting my old Arch image out and removing you from my life forever! Never again will my linux distro randomly uninstall itself without telling me in the middle of implementing new components and crash my development server. "Help" messages that are only shown once are not so helphul.
Some software and websites have help pop-ups and tooltips that are only displayed on the first use and then never again. There is no option to show it again.
That is a terrible idea, because the user might want to see it again as a reminder.
Showing something to the user only once means expecting the user to memorize it all at once.9 -
I'm never going to downvote again. It's just too big of decision to make.. *just clicks away the pop up*2

I made one tiny comment to our manager about agility. Now said manager and my scrum master are in a huge fight about in what 'currency' (story points vs hours vs sprints vs flurps vs whatevs). They've been going at each other for the past 35 minutes. Also, my headphones died today....3

First day in school after the holidays today. But I've got a bad feeling.
So basically I've been coding till 3am this night. I became tired and shut down my PC. I then pulled out my USB when suddenly a spark was coming out of the USB port. I had a really bad feeling about that. All of a sudden my PC started booting. The fans started spinning and the GPUs LED lit up. Then it was all off again. Aaand it turned on, and off, and on..... I just pulled the plug and went to bed.
Now I'm sitting in school and can't think about anything else but what could have happened to my PC :(4 -

Polyamory is weird and I'll never fully understand it. Every polyamorous relationship I've ever been in ended with my partner demanding monogamy weeks into the relationship, despite us setting firm boundaries and expectations at the beginning

I was working with some guys on a plug.dj bot, and one of the guy knew shit about the module we were using.
He decided to add a copy-pasted code directly to master, wrecking the bot.
Never giving write access to that guy ever again.6 -
One time my friend was torrenting random programs and etc and he downloaded a ton of software. He got a ransomware and he didn’t know how to fix it, so his whole computer had to be cleared out and he never torrented again.1

If devrant was like google play store:
"I'll just give you a -1 before reading your rant, If I like your rant I'll give you a +1 later". Never comments again. -
In 2014 I made a promise to myself that I will never work again in webforms again. Next day I put a resignation notice to my boss and said : "I have dignity". That was my last day when I looked at aspx file. Fast forward to 2024. I break my promise everyday for the last half a year. I can't quite because I don't see any job offers paying that handsomely as 3-4 years ago and I fear that now it may be difficult to find any work at all... I am imprisoned again in VIEWSTATE :(3
-
What would be your answer to this question? My answer was closing the tab and promising myself to never apply there again.4

An 'older' client, who is a respected doctor, needed a web site to sell a book he authored about cycling trips.
Simple... I thought... Until he literally sent me all the content.. hand written... on pen and paper... via snail mail... Along with barely legible Hand-drawn maps... fml2 -
I bought lots of books for writing old syntax on systems that no longer exists that solved problems that will never be in scope again.
-
2017 in a nutshell for me:
New year new me! This year I'm going to use a version control system!
Uses git for 3 hours and feels proud. Later forgets about it and never uses it again -
I'm genuinely curious: Is there anyone here who is offended by the use of the name 'master' for a Git repository 'main' branch? If we all moved to 'main' and never used 'master' again (for anything, Git or not) would that make a difference to you?37
-
Yeah Statler and Waldorf are my new role models. A code review in S&W style should be quite a killer, haha.
- I've never seen anything like this before.
.
.
.
- And I hope I'll never see anything like this again!8 -
This entire project. Be glad when it’s over. Remind me never to volunteer for this front-end bullshit again... ☹️2
-
git options only need enough chars to make them unique.
Never ever again typing a 'd' after "git commit --amen"
Amen. -
Just came back from 3 weeks of holidays. I was so ready to boot into my Linux. Suddenly the windows boot thingie appeared and I was like "dude wtf is going on rn?!". Seems like I installed win10 before leaving 3 weeks ago. Downloading fedora now. Hope it will go fast :)1
-
Fuck this shit!!!
So I've also ordered that 1$ Pro Pack Unixstickers.
They came today morning and when I opened it there was only 2 FUCKING STICKERS!!!!!!! Fuck it! Never going to order again. I've totally lost the faith ordering something from overseas.9 -
-- Who are we?
#Developers.
-- What we want?
A #stable project environment.
-- What do we say to project #dependencies?
Never again!7 -
I think the « super power » of making everything works the first time, etc.. is really bad, where is the fun ? Where is this moment of happiness when it finally works ? :/
If i had this, I'll never want to be a dev again. -
(This is the third time I'm talking about the same question I posted on stack overflow this week, but things keep happening that pisses me off)
Me: *answers my own question, clearly says I tried deleting the php path environment variable and that it didn't work, so that's why I added it back and now it's working perfectly*
Guy: *downvotes my answer* "you need to delete the php path environment variable, here's how"
M: "I did and it didn't work, that's why I added it back and now it's working"
G: "well, you need to delete the php path environment variable"
YOU MOTHERF-
G: "You need to check for all the references"
WERE? You literally only talked about environment variables, I told you I checked those multiple times. Obviously I don't know what I'm doing, if I did I wouldn't be asking such a stupid question like this one, so maybe a little guidance? I mean, isn't that what stack overflow is for? To guide people who don't know how to do something? Don't just say "your wrong" when I said MULTIPLE TIMES I did what you said and it DIDN'T WORK.
Seriously, asking a question there was the worst thing I did 😑
Anyway, he didn't answer back and everything is still working fine, with the php path.1 -
Learning information security yet again after doing multiple information security things for company and manager is pushing to do it saying "due immediately" and they're after sending "a number of emails" (it's due in a month and they sent 1 email).
Annoying that these things must be done again and again just because someone in sales let something slip or left their journal behind like a dumb dumb. It's not like I'm never off-site with my stuff or I interact with customer(s) yet1 -
Web site has taken so long to build due to content delays. When the site is in partial preview- the managers involved forget the direction we were taking content and tear it apart again- demanding new content.
Square one never felt so familiar. -
ProTip :: Avoid code conflicts by commenting out Git header references. Never worry about "resolutions" again
-
35 hours straight because screw you clients. Wanting shit right before christmas season.
I'm never doing that shit again, although i got some mad money for it... And in a way got me into node+cloud providers. -
I can never look the same at web sites again. It's either "oo that's cool how they do that" or "wtf who came up with this shit"
-
1. Make all my websites responsive on every device and on all the browsers automatically
2. Optimise each and every line of code that I write
3. Make sure I would never have to look at my duck again2 -
So many open tickets and they keep becoming more and more. In the end they will never be worked on, as there's always smth more important, although they are reprioritized on fixed schedules. They will eventually be discarded because they were forgotten and the ticket was already done, just by a ticket with similar naming or similar intent.
How would you solve this? Can this be solved?2 -
Fuck all the motherfucking people who are interrupting me all the time!!!!
I'm trying to understand how a fucking backbone.js app works so I can make some changes that have to be delivered by Friday
I've never used backbone before as I'm mainly a php developer, and these fucking people are interrupting me every five minutes and I have to start all over again!!!
I'll never get any work done!!!
Fuck!!!1 -
Damn you OVH... You and your goddamn deals again... Now I ended up buying 2 domains for a project again. We all know I'll leave the domain in my cloudflare "keychain" without using it until it expires, because I'll find a fancier and more fun project 😅
I'm at 12 domains right now... I think I might be addicted 🤔
Btw, theres a sick deal going on over at OVH, .com is only 1,20€... Better get your project domain which you'll probably never use again now 😂4 -
that moment when you have to study for latin (what you will never need again after school) when you could learn something useful like gtkmm in the same time :(2
-
int three = 3;
// several lines after
something.setMaxValue(three);
Oh, Junior... not again...
I just hope that the max value never changes to 4. -
Anyone else get slightly terrified after apt-get upgrading and want to never reboot again.
On a side note.. I return!6 -
A toast to the perks of backend, to never being bothered again with every single ui change.... Just you and your code 😏😀2
-
In three days my team closes the book on this monolithic cluster of a project that I thought would never end! I feel like Christmas is coming. Hopefully the PM doesn’t let the business throw us into another scope-less pit like this again! 😩3
-
Just deleted the whole directory of my website, it was MESS. It's time to start from scratch again. It is now one of those side projects that I started but never finished.1
-
Holy fucking shit I will never buy a piece from ubiquiti again! Fuck their fucking stupid controller software that's absolutely fucked up, and resets everything once it's finally working!4

Run a script, get a shit load of "Permission denied" error message... So I stop it by pressing Ctrl+C
Look at the script again there is this little line:
rm -rf $TMP_DIR/*
Look into the script again and again, $TMP_DIR is never defined...2 -
Did a programming contest today. Can't say I did horrible, but I didn't do very well either.
One thing I did learn though: I prefer contests where I directly compete against other people's code (bot programming contests) over "who can comprehend and type this the fastest" -
Guess what i just did. I shorted the entire fucking building. And all I was gonna do was install a couple of lamps. Fuuck. I'm never ever again going to do anything even remotely electrical at work without consulting a technician first ever again. Fuck fuck fuck. I'm so fucking unlucky.
And this fuxking keyboard that fuxking doesn't autocorrect fuxk. Fuxk. I seriously can't write fuck without really thinking about where I put my fingers. Fuxm.4 -
>2 exams left till i never have to look at my college again

>My vape just broke
>Gotta get an oil change in my car
>Pretty sure im gonna be sick
Fuck this week7 -
Never used Emacs in batch mode, did it today to transform some code generated by struct2ts (convert Golang structs to Typescript classes/interfaces).
I won't rely on sed/awk for complex stuff ever again, is much pain in the ass for me tbh.4 -
Open leetcode, try to convince myself to use rust for leetcode to learn rust
Got so confused
Open discussion
Got tired of opening discussion every time
Wrote a plug-in for chrome that automatically loads discussion code at the submission page
Never touched leetcode again lmao2 -
What the hell is wrong with PreferenceScreen in Android? It's a disgusting horrible piece of shit. It looks awesome, but actually it's a horrible trap. Just wasted a whole day, when I could have just implemented it from scratch myself. Never gonna use that piece of crap again.
-
Have this problem which already took me well over a day to figure out.
Thinking: "I might try SO, maybe I'll get an answer there.".
*Posts question with nice explanation and code example.*
Literally 5 mins later: question is marked as duplicate of a super generic question, which does not answer mine.1 -
"Designing something is like having a baby. Asking me to try another design once I’ve birthed something amazing is like asking me to put the baby back in the womb and try again. That never works out for anyone." - Chad McMillan
-
That time I got assigned an additional project, expected to take 10% of my time, and ended up spending the whole night coding. 8-to-5 (of the following day). Never again.
-
When you’ve made enough money to pack it in and never have to work in this thankless fucked up industry again. P.S. Nearly there!4

Wish Apple would add Vim emulation to Xcode and never again even think about removing the ESC key.
XVim is buggy and doesn't work with Xcode 9.1 -
Its midnight here...worked for almost 12 hours.... Spend the last 30 mins or so very frustrated and try to figure out why I am not getting desired response. Edited the code again and again... Soon I realize... I am editing local codes, never pushed to live. And Im testing live the whole time....WOW. I am relieved and ashamed at the same time.
-
I usualy don't participate in surveys. But this time for linkedin, I don't know why, I said yes. After the third question, I hit CONTINUE and ... boom! Never again.
-
Never ever again I start a project without fully declared technical requirements.
I coded a website with grav cms and they ported my beautiful work to shitty handmade coldfusion backend.1 -
"
On content:
Never type something again that you can copy paste!!!
Use your bloody concentration on getting the layout right.
We are not I medieval times and you work on a computer not a stack of paper.

Was chatting with a friend and he bought up the Olympics which is now cancelled and I thought...
What if we could never have a real Olympics ever again. Instead we have an e-Olympics for eSports.4 -
TFS, I love you. We've been in a relationship for a long time. I've never seen this before. Please don't do it again. If you feel you must do it again, can we talk about it? Maybe with a third party?
-
I feel that sometimes using the principles of DRY is just overkill and serves as an incubator for over engineering something that could be really simple. Something's are just going to be used once and never again...
This is not a anti structure rant just a thought.5 -
It's always weird drinking, then eating, suddently being not drunk and getting drunk again
It's just that there's never enough alcohol4 -
What happens if i quit my job or get fired? Am i never allowed to apply to work in that company again or can i apply in the future?5

If Rocket League was supported officially in Ubuntu and this sound issue was sorted which makes the speaker sound like there is a bamboo tunnel installed inside my laptop,
I would never boot in Windows again.1 -
Today my ping caught me off-guard once again, but I will stop this madness for all eternity! Writing the ultimate ping tool, so I never have to fear high ping ever again.. well I cannot fix my f*cking internet provider, but my ping tool can warn me, even if it detects only the slightest inconsistency!
But first I have to figure out why my tool doesn't output the ping... -
Quit my job a month ago, have been playing videogames and doing side projects. Have never felt better. Kinda bummed that I'll have to go job hunting again in a few weeks ;/1
-
When you finally get to sign a project off as finished, after the client has changed the goal posts 50+ times.
-
This might be the worst day ever. The final presentation of our project was a failure! My build in corona didn't even work and sadly my teammate got mad and never talk to me again.
-
I was just thinking how I could have used the. A* algorithm to accomplish making something other than the junky once and never use again kiosk program my firm was contracted for years ago
-
I finally wrote my exemption test for computer literacy(covers ms office products and basic computing theory ).never have to go to anything concerning that course ever again and got 93%+ for all the tests required to get exempted
-
I tried, then I tried again, then I tried again, but harder, and after eight years of constant learning every darn day after school something clicked inside my head and I realized everything.
I never really learned that hard since because I don’t need to. -
Well...I can not post it here because I threatened him that I would post his non payment bullshit all over the internet and he would never get anything done by a freelancer again.
-
Sweet merciful crab. Solved. Now I must never ever touch the code again because I barely understand what I did to fix it...1
-
Not a dev job, but was once called about a month after I applied for a job and was told they put me at the top of their pile of applications and never heard from them again
-
If you are a freelance dev; how do you deal with clients that you don't want anymore?
For example: clients you have been working for a long time ago when your were younger/cheaper and knowing that they will never contact you again.5 -
One of my exes was soooo squishy. I mean Michelin mascot level squishy. If you feel it just once you start to strive for that exact thing and you’ll never be the same again.3

Downloaded Firefox Quantum after the hype. Opened it. Loaded a website. Closed it again 😂
What are the dev tools like? I was never a fan on the FF dev tools for some reason. Are they more comparable to Chrome now?5 -
I have never heard anyone say Gee-Nome. Does anyone actually do this or is the Cisco Network Academy bullshitting me again?6

I hope I never again have the misfortune of having to get projects for Eclipse-based IDEs building in an automated headless way.

I got 2 PS3 Move sticks (the kind with the ball, usable for VR) for $5 from a local pawn that always low-prices tech (I also got one of the thumbstick ones without the ball, and a Wiimote as well, both bundled with) and decided to try and set up PSMoveService on my PC. Half my mobo and the USB Bluetooth stick I've had for like 5 years just failed the smoke test. The USB controller on my mobo released the mysterious blue death smoke (the only other interface I have is ONE PS/2 port) and the Bluetooth stick caught on ACTUAL FUCKING FIRE. The PS Move controllers have been shorted out in the chaos, and my keyboard's also been shorted out.
Fuck.
My.
Life.
I need a new mobo ($100-$400), 2 new PSMove sticks ($100+ on eBay) and a new Bluetooth stick (the one I had was actually really cool, but I can get a new good one for $50, just not THAT one)
That's a $250 bill at the *very* least. -
Just watched the movie Caveman again after about 7 years since the last time. The movie never gets old. The fun part is relearning the language of the movie again. It is funny that a lot of successful actors may have made their debut in this movie.
-
Work on my own side projects. Even just taking notes about what to do and what to avoid. When I think my own stuff avoids the conceptual flaws which cause low motivation at work, I feel fine again! Bosses never learn, but I sure do!
-
Always fun when the thing you've been working on is definitely going to the dark corner of the projects that never get looked at again. Oh well, it was giving me a headache anyway. Can I do something useful now?1
-
Managers born out of 7 generations of incests will gather the team and instruct all of them to comment down migrations and never write them again.
-
My team just spent all afternoon again their wfh setups.... They all use multiple monitors and laptops...
I never picked up on the idea though.., multiple screens always felt distracting...7 -

Bitbucket's Javascript bullshit... gotta fucking have fast clicking fingers on a merge before the browser js crashes AGAIN... Firefox never threads the needle but you might just get it if you go fast on chrome...
