The second episode of The devRant Podcast is here! We're happy to announce the release of episode #1 - featuring David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH) (known for creating Ruby on Rails, Basecamp, his book Rework, and much more). It was a thrill getting to interview David and we think everyone will really enjoy!
We also want to give a huge thanks to our two devRant users who helped us out and came on to talk about their rants - @peaam and @switchstep. We also greatly appreciate all of the questions that were submitted by community members. We really wanted to ask all of them since there were a lot of good ones, but unfortunately we ran out of time with DHH and we didn't get to ask any :/ We're going to make sure we better allocate time in the future.
You can get all the links to the podcast here: https://devrant.io/podcasts/... (available on iTunes, Google Play, YouTube, Soundcloud, Stitcher, and we've provided the raw mp3 in various bitrates).
If you'd like to see it on any other platforms in the future, please let us know. And like always, feedback is appreciated since we're new to this and still learning our way when it comes to podcasting. If you enjoy the show, please rate it to help us out :)
Thanks everyone!7 -
⏺ Procrastinating - SoundCloud on shuffle mode.
⏺Concentration lvl - NOOB or repeated work - Something that a mindless zombie could do. I play OneRepublic, Maroon 5, Coldplay, GreenDay, etc.
⏺ Concentration lvl - Serious - AudioMachine, Two Steps from Hell, etc
⏺ Concentration lvl God mode - I require absolute zero silence. You make as much a *sigh* anywhere within 4m radius of me, or I realise of your existence, you would wish you weren't born.4 -
Installed new Ubuntu 17.10 on my Notebook and with that Terminus and an amazing music player called Harmony. It integrates all common streaming services e.g. SoundCloud, Spotify, YouTube and many more. And it has css theme and js coding support.3

OK I'm going write some serious heaps of code, my commits will fucking ddos the repository!
All I need is some tunes to drown out the office noise. Hey this song is quite good. Haha Google suggests my favorite song from 2 years ago, let's give that a try next. Oh I didn't know there was a new album out... hmm but I don't like everything... lets find out which 2 songs are good enough to add to a playlist by skipping aimlessly through it. Come to think of it, this style is not really that great for coding, maybe something with less vocals. Oh I know, I'll see if I can find some postmetal goa triphop electroswing dubpsy remix of that on YouTube, that would be enjoyable. No... I like the original better, although I'm a bit bored with it, maybe there's a similar artist hiding in a corner on Bandcamp, or Soundcloud... hey that's a cool mix, I wonder where that sample is from, lets try to find it...4 -
Thank you SoundCloud for telling me your app has an update despite the fact my phone auto updates when connected to WiFi.20
-
When you want to filter Android studio by exceptions for your app and the exceptions that pop-up are from another app lol, in this case SoundCloud.
-
devRant already replace SoundCloud as my orange app in the main screen...
To be fair, SoundCloud was just there to complete the rainbow.
Rant: this app told me that my rant would be safe if I closed the Post Rant window (since I can't post more than one rant per hour or something) but it didn't save my awesome tags! I feel betrayed.undefined fuck it i'm out why not spotify? can't wait for the stickers don't remember the original tags script kiddie af love at first sight finally a rant who's colorblind?23 -
Tries to use SoundCloud API for a client
Docs say you need a client key
Wants to create one by signing up clients application
Signup-Form says:applicazion registration currently not available
Goes to soundcloud dev forums
Raging devs rage about that soundcloud has terminated their api registration for about 13 months now
Me thinking: That's probably the best way to make a conpany grow!8 -
You just knew the DDOS attack that impacted Twitter, SoundCloud, Spotify, Netflix, Reddit, Disqus, PayPal... Would not have a chance to slow down devRant! Guaranty @dfox has a world class resilient infrastructure built to circumvent and to scale.6

A while back a buddy and I were keen on making an MMORPG that for a variety of reasons just didn't work out.
Game development is an exercise in futility unless you have a LOT of time and a LOT of willpower. Unfortunately, where the project would have taken at least both of us, only one of us was able to actually do the work. I'll leave it up to you to figure out which one of us it was :|
It sucks because it was a stellar idea, the art style was going to be amazing, and I had already began working hard on a lot of the music. My best musical work to date, just sitting private on my soundcloud, unused and collecting dust.
Listening to them now still fills me with that glimmer of hope to a degree, but it's bittersweet.3 -
Hey, it's me cozyplanes,

The soundcloud app has probably one of the worst bug I ever encounterd. The slightest disconnect from the internet causes the song to pause!2
-
Soundcloud used to know how to shuffle your liked tracks. Not it only shuffles the tracks that are in the playlist and the playlist only contains the (literally) visible tracks.
Basically, If you want to shuffle more than 30 songs at once you hace to scroll down for it...3 -
SoundCloud Go+ Failed Big Time, So This Was Expected. Still Came As A Shock. Pentabytes Of Music, Just Vanishing?
Anyway, A Great Opportunity For Spotify To Completely Vaporize Their Only Competitor!13 -
Since I can't make many posts, I'll try squeeze them all in one:
1. Phone recruitment interview went "well", I even spoke french at some point! 😃
I have to brush up my knowledge again for the technical test (I hate them). Somehow I got excited, which I shouldn't, but only time will tell...
2. My brain is stuck with opening a Twitter account, mainly for following people/companies news. I don't know if it's worth it, so I would your feedback on this.
3. I've finally come down to listening to synthwave while coding and I was wondering if there's any good free service (I'm still poor, so I don't want neither Deezer nor Spotify), preferably with a UWP app on Windows 10 (that is not Soundcloud).4 -
Alright windows, why is Chrome receiving fractures of my bandwith, but edge can get it all? I swear, I can stream FHD on edge, but not use soundcloud on chrome. This smells fishy to me
-
I know there is SoundCloud, Earbits for music... Sometimes I use YouTube.
I am coding to get to my beast mode but my YouTube mix picks up a song I don't want and then I change tabs just to skip or change your mix...then poooofff
ALL OVA SURRRDDDDEN

I like listening to music from SoundCloud while working. Tried Spotify because I had read about its next level recommendation engine. Honestly felt that Soundcloud provides much better recommendations for the kind of music I like than Spotify.3
-
Went to a friends house and the mother said "Hey, you're a professional with computers. How do you download a song on SoundCloud?" - How the fuck should I know, did I make the websute? Shit.1
-
If soundcloud would have a reverse search feature, my life would be much less of a pain.
Also, if soundcloud could return better results than Google:"songName" + soundcloud -
Listening to Music from my SoundCloud-Stream while programming is like:

Hi,

Soundcloud && YouTube9 -
A mixture of soundcloud and facebook to build a better social network only for music lovers. Trying to do this in rust to teach myself the language. And of course I'm hoping to finish it!

while coding i listen to a combination of FKJ, George Duke, Lalah Hathaway, some snarky puppy ... i'm running out, please what playlist do you use while coding... send soundcloud or youtube urls too. thanks2

Opus is an amazing codec, but did Soundcloud really have to switch to it with a bitrate of 64kbps? even 80kbps would have been worlds better.
Bandwidth isn't _that_ expensive, even post-neutrality.4 -
I am thinking to make a SoundCloud clone as per project for learning purpose. Can you suggest the better way to proceed.what is the best stack and how music uploading and streaming should be handled. I want to do it hard way.1

I would just like to share an amazing feed for minimal house/techno on soundcloud called 'Drumcode'
Really good for focussing :) -
Dear web developers, please think of the boot disk users.
Users might have to boot their computer from external bootable media such as a live USB stick, SSD, or live CD/DVD, after their operating system caught a problem that prevents it from booting.
Emergency boot media usually has earlier versions of web browsers because they are not frequently used, much less updated. Sadly, the developers of many websites have a habit of breaking compatibility for older web browsers. For example, the new audio player used by the Internet Archive (Archive.org) does not even support Firefox 57, a version that was released as recently as November 2017!
Therefore, websites should retain support for old web browsers. If not all features can be made to work, at least the essential features should work on older browser versions. Websites should not let down people who are stuck due to a computer problem. Those users should still be able to browse the Internet for help, and perhaps enjoy basic entertainment such as watching videos (YouTube, Dailymotion) and listenening to music or audio books (SoundCloud, Internet Archive) while at it.
The attached screenshot shows something no internet user wants to be "greeted" with.
Keep the Internet accessible.18 -

Fuck, I love soundcloud but as an artist without any reputation, it fucking sucks when you upload a song, get an instant "love" from some random "promoter/bot" without the bot having the decency to listen, and when I look at the bot's profile, they "love" tracks that are not in my genre >_< (and manage to listen 60 minutes-worth of music in 1 minute...)
Not that I care whether people listen or not (it's more an ongoing portfolio to see how my mixing evolves over the years), but at least listen to it for 5 seconds2 -
Lovers of music, you should check out Soulection (SoundCloud & Beats 1 Radio) for music you can code to & also chill out to1

I'm a big fan of indo western fusion music.. This is one track you must hear.. Worth it, I promise

Please support old web browser versions for all eternity.
I hate it when I open a site like SoundCloud one day and am greeted with a "we no longer support your browser" notice. Now I am forced to update my browser to a new version with removed features. On Android, Chrome sometimes crashes due to an apparent memory leak, so I have to go back to Samsung Internet, which does not work with some sites. Also, the Samsung clipboard manager (which can hold up to 20 items) is only available on Samsung Internet, not Chrome or Firefox.
I also have to update the browser on my live USB bootable stick because sites stop supporting it. Any browser starting in 2015 (ECMA script 6) should be supported until at least 2050 so that I never have to fear that a site one day spontaneously stops working on my browser.
I would like to browse the Internet forever without having to ever worry about pages to stop working one day. Browser vendors might also deprecate support for devices and operating systems. Old devices also have replaceable batteries and are easier to repair. I don't want be forced to buy new devices that are difficult and expensive to repair.20 -
