I love how the people on here are pretty much always nice.
Yes, there are some *wink AlexDeLarge* who use strong language, some dirty jokes and sometimes there are topics where people don't agree on but I've never seen any honest insults or toxic behaviour (other than the opinion on your shitty client or boss lol).
No annoying trolls (the nearest to a troll I know on here is Jase but he's fun and mostly welcome here).
No spam/ads from users (only maybe recommendations).
And the most unbelievable thing is that devRant itself is free, adfree and based on the community voluntary donating for the server and work costs.

I'm a developer in germany and of course, everyone in this company has a keyboard with the QWERTZ layout, which ( you all know ) sucks especially when using it do write code.
So i asked my boss, if i can get a keyboard in QWERTY layout, because of the given reasons.
He replied nicely: Yes, I will ask the hardware management.
5 minutes later i got a mail: Here is your harware order, you will get it soon.
It's not much, but that was fast and nice :)

Follow up rant from my previous one about the Linux job hunting.
Recruiter called today! He said that the company he recruits for is looking for people with a lot of Linux experience and since I've been working with it for seven+ years (not extremely long but keep in mind that this job requires no certifications etc except for a highschool diploma) he really wants me on board.
Asked him what my chances are and if he could be honest about that (it's a genuinely nice recruiter) and he replied with "95 percent".
It'd be loads of traveling every day but including free certifications etc so awesomeness!

A girl i liked sucked at programming, used to fail our first programming course. I had a crush on her so i offered to tutor her for free and did a couple of her assignments when she was too overloaded with assignments. - Plan worked, she saw how nice and reliable i am so she did and helped me with some papers and eventually shes my girlfriend now.7

I just love refactoring :) that feeling when an agonic 50loc method with ifs, loops, streams, other shit shrinks down to 3 lines with descriptive and SRP-compliant method calls.. When you can actually read code as a nicely written story. When there are no rubbish comments, cryptic variables and no overly complex if-else skyscrapers jamming all the logic in one conditional chain. When all the abstractions are designed so nicely and design patterns applied so perfectly that extending either of the components is as easy as a walk in a park.
When everything is nice and neat. Only then can I sleep well and enjoy the autumn :)

So I finally did it and quit my job.
The new company seemed to be a really realy nice place to work.
And yesterday I heard that they even allow one colleague to sleep 2 nights a week in the office because rents are high and he otherwise lives far away. They even bought a sleeping couch and a washing machine for him. O.O

I'm doing my CV in Vue with Bulma and everything is all nice and neat. I have a nice and neat 'skills' section that you can see pictured, and it's nice and neat. However, what is not very nice and neat is Firefox (and chrome's) print to PDF thing which ignore the nice little semi meaningless dots that I have, which is so fucking asdfghjkl;

The day I got hired because my (now) boss saw me showing off my super powers as a dev to some fellow students. He liked that I was so energetic.
Now I make quite a lot of money (for my age) and learn so fucking much. By the way, I'm only 17, so it's quite nice.6 -
Was hired as an intern, paid me the minimum wage, had to independently handle 3 large scale projects. Got to learn A LOT but was not paid enough.2

Front-end web development in 2018 is a fucking dumpster fire. 4 month old blog post guides are out of date, hipster toolchain APIs change monthly, npm can't find a module that is literally right there in its entirety in the fucking node_modules directory. JavaScript is love. JavaScript is life.5

I was making changes in JS and it did not get reflected into the browser, spent 3 hours on it. Later realised I was making changes in the wrong JS file. Have never felt this dumb in my life.4

What. The. Fuck. Dropbox.
HTTP POST is for creating a new instance of a resource. HTTP GET is for reading. GET guarantees server state is not changed while POST does not. I want to fucking list a directory, not put stuff in it.1 -

TL;DR: What's cool about your company or what you'd like to have in your company?
I work at a small company (<50 employee) but it has some time around (I'd say almost 20 years or so).
The thing is, the boss here is cheap or inattentive or outdated or all previous options. This translates into a company stuck in the 90's management ways. Well, maybe late 90's.
So we don't have a lot of 'cool' or nice things here; and I've been thinking of coming up with a proposal of a progressive update of some things that gives us (the employees) some sort of identity.
For example, I think that small things like personalized notebooks or post-its or t-shirts give the employees some sort of sense of belonging. We don't have any of that. The only thing we have are business cards and I find them completely useless since I don't visit customers and all my communication with them is via email.
One thing I find very cool is when one employee starts in a company, in their first day they get a 'welcome kit' (example picture): notebook, pen, cup, t-shirt... It may look like stupid shit but it's way better and more motivating than the "Sit here and that's it" welcome I got when I started here.
So I wanna do a proposal of this sort of things that we can adopt, and I wanna know what do you find cool in your company or what would you like your company did so you'd feel more confortable or 'proud' (maybe that's not the word) of working there.6 -

After coaching for Django Girls organization and GirlScript Summer of Code, it can be known I clearly have a thing for Django. So I decided to make a new Portfolio from scratch and this time, using Django (seemed a good idea as I wanted to migrate my blogs from Medium to the portfolio).
So, I made the project, got a domain name and hosted it on Heroku. Then it struck me to make my portfolio open source so everyone can use it to make their own! I am looking forward to add a lot new features and improve the existing ones. Here’s a link to it: https://github.com/hmangukia/...

Projects, Blogs and Social Media handles can be added from the admin panel. If the user does not have coding background, the installation process might be tough. That is why, I am looking forward to add the Sign Up functionality so that the user does not have to go through all that hassle of installing and hosting the project.
If you are wishing to use this to make your Portfolio, please go through the installation steps in readme.md. I would be more than happy to help you install and host on Heroku if you get stuck :)5 -
Interesting: how to hack websites right upon installation. Basically, monitoring issued TLS certificates and trying to access e.g. WordPress installations before the user was able to configure a password.
That relies on a sloppy deployment process, of course - like making a live installation that is online immediately.

It's so nice when kindness is retributed...
When on a flash shopping for wood, to fix my chair. Found out that the shop was way cheaper than a big chain I went a few days ago... Like up to 2/3 and 3/4 cheaper... Well, spent 1-hour shopping in such a small shop.
Meanwhile, started talking, telling what I'm doing with the wood and the tools... and eventually asked if she had any leftovers because I would use them.
A little more shopping, a little more talk and she asked, what will you do with the leftovers??
I've started talking about my new hobby, then the why I started this hobby (burn out), and that I'm making machines and tools with the stuff I'm buying...
Left with a big box full of leftovers, even a catalog with fine wood, all the same size...
It's nice when people reward kindness with kindness.
Also, gained a new costumer, never shopping anywhere else again if they have it.4 -

So I recently finished my Abi (final school exams thing in germany) and got relatively good grades. My IT grades were good, I was best of the class. So two local companies gave me some neat gifts (the best of the class always reveive some presents). One of the companies I was thinking about applying to even gifted me a Bluetooth speaker (thanks for that!).
Now comes the bad part: I looked up the speaker on amazon and now it thinks I want to buy it. I get ads from that exact speaker EVERYWHERE although I already own it. And no, amazon doesn't even think about showing me ads of other articles I've been looking at way more often and way longer.

A few months back, I had this interview with this guy to work at his startup. It was wonderful and he told me that I am hired (during the interview itself!). The position was of an intern as I was to start my co-op. So, to complete all the process with the university, I need offer letter to submit. The guy did not send me one, instead he sent an NDA. I emailed him explaining that I need an offer letter to submit to the university first before I sign any agreement. He stopped replying to my emails.
I had no other option so I contacted my university's co-op committee and explained them the situation. They contacted that guy and after that I get an email saying "We would like to move forward with other candidates".

Then I purchased Academind and codewithmosh courses then tried to download the courses but the download speed became 63-90 KB/s wow nice 👺

Today I wrote my first small python application as an exercise:
Scraping all post EuroJackpot draws from a website, save them in a database, sort them, some checks and do some combinations. Everything quite clean in classes and functions.
And the "application" is just 100 lines big. I love it so far how much can be accomplished with just a few lines. -

I had this amazing friend during my Bachelors and I think because of her I started to learn programming.
Long story short, IT(not just IT though) curriculum in India is shit. So you do not really get to learn during your college. It’s completely on you and how you self teach. This friend who I am talking about not just learnt all this and did research for herself, but she tried to teach and make others aware as well. She organised DjangoGirls workshop in our city where I participated. That’s when I really started learning stuff useful in real world. -

I recently began using plugins for chrome, that darkify the experience. One of them has a developer option, where you install the plugin locally from Github and it's pretty nice to be contributing to a project for once, instead of just creating my own 😊

Working on a Django API where I have to send a request to a PHP file to upload a XML file. Here is what I wrote:
