I have a neighbors, their son is little less intelligent than average person after being injured in accident, I help them from time to time. He gets the pc trashed with adware, usual stuff, they ask me to clean it up.

Recently I broke my arm. They offered to cook for me until I recover to full health... Seriously, that's huge help when you live alone and spend most time working. I'm glad to have them.

I used to work in a tech shop. Old lady brings her laptop in claiming viruses broke her Gmail. I do the diagnostic, it's relatively clean with a bit of browser adware and tracking cookies. I call her and let her know there was nothing wrong with her Gmail and that it's good to go (she approved a tune up). She comes in and gets it. She calls later saying Gmail is still broken. I invite her to bring it in so we can have a look together (knowing for sure she was the problem). So we open up Gmail together and she shows me what she's doing. She's clicking on the sender and getting the contact card instead of the email opening. I show her how to actually open the email. She doesn't understand. I spend twenty more minutes explaining how to open an email. And this is the wk13 kicker, she waits until after twenty minutes to ask what "click" means. I was so done. That lady was too old to be using a computer.

Another day of problems with Windows, just removed 96 unsafe files (Trojans, Malware, Adware etc.)...
At first, Defender refused to work with me, I tried to remove that with Defender (which found just 7 treats), but 'remove' or 'quarantine' didn't work, so I downloaded Malwarebytes and now works fine. Still, some minor problems, gonna format this crap soon...or maybe it's time to move to Linux or macOS finally? 🤔

Didn't want to install another adware and wound up with the adb shell screencap command since I need the pictures on my PC anyways.

I have no idea why and how people get adware/malware/spyware/viruses, ransomware, and the like on Windows machines. I've been using Windows since I was a small child and on the machines I've used (mainly my older brother's), automatic updates were always off. I only had a virus issue once because I was small didn't know what I was doing at the time, but that was easily fixed by my brother.

Bottom line: Fuck Windows and all the drivers it broke that one time I decided to enable updates

P.S. I started using Linux a few years ago, and it's been pretty wonderful! I've used dozens of different distros, but I still can't get away from Windows because games, certain programs, and compatibility issues (like some drivers and devices not properly working in Linux), so oh well

The user needs to move files to a directory accessible to a superior third-party file manager just to give it a name longer than fifty characters. Even file management on desktop computers two decades ago was better than this crap!

All of this because Google apparently wants us to pay them instead of SanDisk or some other memory card vendor. This again shows that one only truly owns a device if one has root access. Then these crippling restrictions that were made "for security reasons" (which, in case it isn't clear, is an obvious pretext) can be defeated for selected apps.

I threw some random android adware i found into a virtual device on my laptop (while swapping like a motherfucker, ofc) and it turns out, aside from the Draw over Other Apps, Install Apps, Location, and Storage permissions, and the blank name/icon, it's an honest-to-God working global ad blocker via VPN. It's shipping your traffic to China and filling your device full of more malware, but it's blocking ads too, so...? Is it worth gutting to remove the bullshit? (Can Android Studio do that?)
