Something I grind my teeth on very hard just recently,
Mum: son, why does this always showing up on my phone (a Samsung J something)
*sent a screenshot of some antivirus adware opening on chrome
Me: mum, that might be a virus, how long has it been happening?
Mum: I don't know, a month probably, since your nephew always uses it to play games, BTW it automatically opens up everytime I open whatsapp
Me: *facepalm, and you never thought to tell me until now?
Mum: I never thought it would be, and also i got this recently
*screenshot of some SMS from shady subscription, notifying some failure in subscribing whatever it is they are offering
Me: *double facepalm, let's put that aside for now, that adware seems to be happening on Chrome, can you try to remove the tabs
*spent 2 hours to instruct on how to close chrome tabs
Me: ok, just go to my friend's place (he own a phone store, and he did the fixes & repairs himself), bring it to him, I'll tell him the situation.
Mum: ok, maybe tomorrow, I can't today,
Mum: it's still happening, the thing keeps popping up
Me: then maybe you should go to my friend's place ASAP *me starting to lose patience
Mum: but it's ok, your sister uninstalled the Chrome
Me: *triple facepalm, [FFS sis, you are an IT major], so where does it pops up now?
*screenshot of popup ad from default browser
*screenshot of the apps installed in the phone, there are 25+ of those shitty minecraft shooter game installed on it
Mum: it pops up from different one than before, but your sister also deleted it just now
Me: *cries, mum..., please..., go..., to..., my friend's..., place...., AS SOON AS YOU CAN, for now please delete EVERYTHING game related in that thing
Mum: ok, I'll remove it, I'll head over to your friend's maybe tomorrow
Me: thank you, very, much
...5 minutes later
Sis: Maybe I should give mum my Iphone, Samsung is awful, this never happened on Iphone before
Me: *shuts off my phone30
FUCKIN advertising man...
I remember when the iPhone came out ten years ago, and everyone figured out that all they had to do was make a free app that had ads and they could get rich enough to retire. So there’s billions of apps now that are free adware bullshit. And it’s sad that even today in 2017 people still think this applies. The truth is there’s bout three people in the world that have made this work. People, if you’re considering generating a revenue stream, this does not work. Make something that is worth paying for, or don’t make it. Same goes for websites. Even if something not worth paying for gets enough users to make the ad revenue substantial (and that’s almost guaranteed not to happen with the current state of things) at best you have a bunch of people wasting their time on something not worth paying for. Which is just sad...
It’s one thing if you’re making it because it’s worth something to you to put something out there. Even if it’s not something worth paying for like your personal blog, take your pride and dignity and swallow the hosting cost. It’s the classy thing to do, and that way you don’t willingly sign up to be a google slave and subject your readers to relentless abuse and data mining (loading ads from a party is just one of the many ways google will figure out who visited where)
If you’re running a small installation that nobody wants to pay for, then you don’t need help paying for it, and if you’re running a large installation that nobody wants to pay for, then why the hell are you doing that!?
If you’re running any size installation that people are willing to pay for, problem solved. Imagine that. And you don’t have to ruin it with ads and subject your users to that kind of abuse. Put the dignity back in software design for the love of god.
The only winners in advertising are the advertisers and the ad companies. The advertisers win because they change your behavior in their favor in the long run, and the ad companies win because their product scales across as many websites as they want and it costs them NOTHING to do so, and requires NO work. And it matters not to them how many apps and websites and developers go under. There’s plenty more who think they can make a living off of ads in line to take their turn. As the end user, you will not be a winner. Just used to make other people winners
Dignity. Put it back in software development.9

"Rottensys" a malware which covers devices from: Honor, Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, Samsung and GIONEE
"According to our findings, the RottenSys malware began propagating in September 2016. By March 12, 2018, 4,964,460 devices were infected by RottenSys," researchers said.
"At this moment, the massive malware campaign pushes an adware component to all infected devices that aggressively displays advertisements on the device’s home screen, as pop-up windows or full-screen ads to generate fraudulent ad-revenues."
If you have one of the affected devices, here's how I checked mine:
1. Install ADB (Windows: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sh...)
2. Connect your device in USB-debugging mode
3. execute "adb shell 'pm list packages -f' > output.txt" (On windows navigate to C:\adb and replace "adb" with ".\adb.exe")
4. open the now created output.txt
5. search for any of those:
Fuck you Xiaomi for creating MIUI, damn it's so bloated with non-removable adware to the level of extreme annoying. It Keeps popping up ads from creating a Folder to Playing a music.
Look at that screenshot. It even serve an ad in built in cleaner app, like What the fuck man?! For real? I already disable the serve ads option. But it keeps turning on.
I even messing with the Permission settings, doesn't even help.
I REALLY WANT TO MOVE TO LINEAGE OS SO BAD, but the warranty is on duration. I don't want to void it.
God, give me a patience for another 7 month.25
I used to work in a tech shop. Old lady brings her laptop in claiming viruses broke her Gmail. I do the diagnostic, it's relatively clean with a bit of browser adware and tracking cookies. I call her and let her know there was nothing wrong with her Gmail and that it's good to go (she approved a tune up). She comes in and gets it. She calls later saying Gmail is still broken. I invite her to bring it in so we can have a look together (knowing for sure she was the problem). So we open up Gmail together and she shows me what she's doing. She's clicking on the sender and getting the contact card instead of the email opening. I show her how to actually open the email. She doesn't understand. I spend twenty more minutes explaining how to open an email. And this is the wk13 kicker, she waits until after twenty minutes to ask what "click" means. I was so done. That lady was too old to be using a computer.
1) Open IE or Edge
2) Search "download chrome"
3) Click on top hit
4) Download and run installer
5) Enjoy adware9
>80 apps removed from Google Play for being adware but they were trending
Welp... let's get hunting, they'll look nice in my malware collection!3
"Cortana can do so many things..."
buT CAn yOu rEmOVe AlL a(i)DS from thIs "OS", inCLuDinG yOursElF?
Thought so. Still fucking useless trash
So I google for a dll editor, and download the first result, don't scan it because I'm tired, and next thing I know I have 370 unwanted items on my laptop. Why is the first result on google an adware dropper...9
Another day of problems with Windows, just removed 96 unsafe files (Trojans, Malware, Adware etc.)...
At first, Defender refused to work with me, I tried to remove that with Defender (which found just 7 treats), but 'remove' or 'quarantine' didn't work, so I downloaded Malwarebytes and now works fine. Still, some minor problems, gonna format this crap soon...or maybe it's time to move to Linux or macOS finally? 🤔9
LOL I just found out the deloton adware is installed on my schools website (WordPress) and also they don't use HTTPS on the Moodle server to which hundreds of people sing in every day. Tomorrow I'll go with some friends to the admins and show them all the shit they've been doing. This will be fun!2
I have no idea why and how people get adware/malware/spyware/viruses, ransomware, and the like on Windows machines. I've been using Windows since I was a small child and on the machines I've used (mainly my older brother's), automatic updates were always off. I only had a virus issue once because I was small didn't know what I was doing at the time, but that was easily fixed by my brother.
Bottom line: Fuck Windows and all the drivers it broke that one time I decided to enable updates
P.S. I started using Linux a few years ago, and it's been pretty wonderful! I've used dozens of different distros, but I still can't get away from Windows because games, certain programs, and compatibility issues (like some drivers and devices not properly working in Linux), so oh well6
Since this is such a cool community with so many app devs, I though it would be cool to share with you all a project the company I work with its currently developing.
The name is appcoins, and it's a blockchain project that aims to solve 3 big problems that devs, users, Appstores and oems face everyday in the current apps ecosystem:
- the advertising: create a trustworthy advertise system for your apps, where you can actually invest money that will be spent on users that will use your apps; currently is a system where everyone is trying to fool everyone.
- Malware and Adware detection: create a system powered by the community to rank dev's apps, using a reputation system, and dispute by bidding. currently it's an unscalable system, with many detection flaws.
- In app billing (aka IAB): offer a new and easy way for users to buy cool things in your app, even if they don't have access to a credit card or other payment methods. Users will be rewarded by trying out your cool apps. Also opens the door for payments with crypto currencies in AppStores.
This is just a quick overall idea of the all project. If you're interested, checkout the website https://appcoins.io/
If you've any question or suggestion, let me know and I'll try to answer as best as I can, or redirect to my devRant coworkers.
Any feedback you may have, feel free to share it! This system is designed for us all devs, so your input is really appreciated.
Thank you all, and sorry for the long post.

So I've recently been working on my own open source project and a few days ago there popped up 2 different reviews of my program.. it feels good that someone took the time to use my program and share their thoughts about it but it also feels a bit sketchy since both sites offers the possibility to download my program aswell and I'm not 100% sure that they haven't added any kind of adware or spyware to it.. The sites in question are softpedia.com and findmysoft.com .. Anyone with some tips about the situation or feedback regarding these sites?4
