My last episode of Game of Thrones got ruined because of spoilers on social media 🙈 So to ensure that I don't get any spoilers for the GoT finale, I created a small chrome extension which automatically blurs out any GoT presence or prospective spoiler from websites I visit.
So for all those who are worried about the spoilers, can give it a try over here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...
Might be a bit buggy here and there so do share any feedback you have. 👍🏼 #WeekdayHackathons16
Learning soft skills.
I'm about as direct with coworkers and managers as I am on devRant. And I still think being painfully direct is often better than playing the heavily politicized office game of thrones.
But sometimes it's better to say:
"CTO, I think we need your skills to build bridges to other departments and manage recruitment. You're the only one who understands both technology and people, so drop your developer role and become our ambassador"
"Dear CTO, your code makes my eyes bleed. Your CS degree was a fucking waste of tax money, and it's quite clear that cheap college beer washed out all of your reasoning skills. We should fill the space you're taking up with a beanbag chair, because you're providing negative value to the company. How many investor cocks did you have to deep throat to get where you are?"
Now, I just pick option one, smile politely, and tell him we need to increase department budget as indemnification for having to work with a retard like him. Uh I mean... "to get developer salaries up to a competitive level so we can retain knowledge"10
HBO, the network that owns Game of Thrones, one of the highest grossing and most popular shows, still use Flash for their web streaming service.
I cry in dothraki7
Me as interviewer: So how often do you post on dev rant and how far are you into game of thrones?
Interviewee: Not a fan and what's dev-
Me as interviewer: Ok I think I have all the info I need5
It's 3:45 am, I have a meeting at 8:00, game of thrones streams in 15minutes rick and morty streams immediately after....... Am fucked7
My university organised a series of shitty seminars and due to shortage of registration it was going to be made mandatory. Registration was a simple google form without sign in, so i wrote a python script and filled the google form with characters of Game of Thrones , Breaking bad and Narcos series. Now the seminar is cancelled.6
It's strange what you can learn when you have too much deadtime.
Last week I learned balloon twisting through youtube videos. A co-worker and I decorated the desk of a co-worker for her birthday.
I made her this balloon throne (from Game of Thrones). Notice that I was soooooo bored.
She loved it ^_^17
Okay, I love programming - making my code better faster more readable^^ but I am not a nerd, I have no idea what's going on in star wars or star trek, I do not fucking care about Game of Thrones - I prefer to go out in some clubs and so... I hate it when people are so fucking surprised about my job and interests.
There are programmers who are not nerds live with it!26
Came across a nice comparison today:
GoT: Countless characters and competing factions fighting for influence.
I haven't watched a single episode of Game Of Thrones. Will the society accept me? 🙄 Who all are with me?18
I feel sorry for myself as i thought Ariana Grande was a font
*shame* *shame* *shame*
*voices from game of thrones in my head now*
So I just saw the absolute best thing on Facebook today and thought I’d share. Game of Codes! https://facebook.com/webdeves/...5
game of codes
this video is for those developers who watch game of thrones4
$whiteWalkers = 0;
$text = 'HOLD THE DOOR';
$textLength = strlen($text);
$maxChars = 13;
echo substr_replace($text, '' $maxChars/2, $textLength-$maxChars);
} do ($whiteWalkers < 8);
Poor Hodor 😢7
Co-worker is in his office.
Co-worker whistles continuously "The rains of Castamere" from the Game of Thrones series.
I like Game of Thrones.
I also like the series' score.
But not the way my co-worker interprets it.
Because it's wrong.
Anyway, he whistles.
Sometimes louder, sometimes less so.
It's very out of tune.
I can't concentrate, let alone code.
Co-worker goes to a meeting.
I delete the bullshit I've written earlier.
Then, I get some coding done.
Then, I'm relaxed again.
Then, Co-worker returns.
Now he hums.
It's the same song.
Over and over again.
It's not that much out of tune, but it's still annoying.
I can't think, I can't concentrate, let alone code.
My thoughts drift to a certain Red Wedding.
I imagine it in vivid detail.
Strangely, it's a happy place right now.
I imagine throwing my screen through two fucking walls.
I don't do it, because the laws of physics are against me.
But the thought is enough.
I'm at peace, again.
... also, I got to leave early today, so I got that going for me which is nice.
(I already had to tell that co-worker *not* to whistle loudly in the cafeteria - you can hear it in a big part of the building. We had some important customers over and Office Management was not amused.)6
I just felt like Google is the best player out there in terms of Companies.
Seriously, Well played Google.
This is not a negative opinion, I am just awe-struck at its tactics.
See, Google is currently the biggest name in terms of development in Android, ML and multi-platform software but no one can say it being a monopoly due to its dedication to open source community.
Recently Android emerged out to be One of the Biggest , most advanced, trusted and loved Technology . It saw great achievements, and up till 2016-17, it was at its peek. BUT when the market started shifting towards multi-platform boons and Ai, it got its hands into that too with its flutter and kotlin environment
One could have a negative opinion about this, But i can't seem to engulf the vast amounts of positive situations i see in this:
1) this IO18 (and many months before that) saw ML/AI being incorporated in Android (also the arcore, proje tango and many more attempts in the past) meaning that Android will not officially "die". It will just become an extremely encouraged platform( not just limited to mobiles) and a beginning of the robot -human reality ( a mobile is handling everything of your everyday life: chats, music apps sxhedules, alarms, and with an actively interacting ML, it won't be long when Android comes installed in a green bug lime droid robot serving you tea xD). Meanwhile the market of Windows games may shift to mobiles or typically " Android games" (remember, Android won't be limited to mobiles)
2)java may or may not die. The animations and smooth flow it seems to provide is always appreciated but kotlin seems to do so too. As for the hard-core apps, they are usually written in c++ .So java is in the red zone
3) kotlin-native and Flutter will be the weapons of future , for sure. they will be developing multi-platform softwares and will be dividing the market of softwares into platform specific softwares(having better ml/ai interactions,animations) and platform independent apps(access and use anywhere softwares).
And where does google stand?Its the lord varys of game of thrones which just supports and enhances the people in the realm. So it benefits the most . That's a company for you, ladies and gentlemen! If seen from common eyes they seem to be the best company ever and our 1 true king but it can also be a very thick fur cloak hiding their negetive policies and tactics , if any.
Well played, Google.16

Say what you want, but I'm sharing this.
The only thing I am waiting in 2019 is this. Not new phones, not new OSs, not new apps, not new digital currency, not new sex toy, not new God Of War, not new Game of Thrones. Just this 3rd installment of my favorite game.
// I am not a serious gamer.5
function watch($i = null)
return 'Game of Thrones';
return 'Silicon Valley';
return 'Fear The Walking Dead';
The Internet was down for 3 days and I kept telling my friends that I needed to work on my project but actually I just wanted to watch Game of Thrones.
8gb of ram and quad core processor are not enough for summarizing the game of thrones book series with word2vec.
Learned it the hard way :D1
How to get on the ultimate coding-zone? Easy...
Game Of Thrones music soundtracks. I really love the songs of the series... I can hear them for a full day every day...2
Wherever i starts coding something new
There's assignments to submit,
And then there's game of thrones, silicon valley, friends, westworld, stranger things etc etc etc
Then again next semester....1
What an evening..watched the Game of Thrones season finale..n then watched Italy defeat Spain in the Euros!!!
I have a dream that one day companies will understand that most people who pirate music/movies/games etc. do it because they don't have enough money or because they can't get them any other way. They don't lose money, as those people are not able to buy their products anyway, instead, they gain supporters and possible future clients. Piracy is one of the reasons Windows is the king OS(prove me wrong...) and also the reason Game of Thrones is the most popular show on the planet. Instead of hunting torrent site founders maybe they could, I don't know, build great and cheap services. Spotify is such a service, no reason to pirate music anymore, but everything else still lies in the middle ages...8
Anyone got any show recommendations? a year for Game of Thrones is killer. I really enjoyed Mr Robot, it was dark, moody and pushed the lines. Vikings is great, I find historical shows really interested when executed right. Just started watching Marco Polo.14
I'm currently watching Game of Thrones and procrastinating installing ubuntu onto my desktop and learning to make scripts for Hackmud...
Before the final game of thrones season, wanted to get as much data as I could:
