Update: On second job offer
There are multiple red flags detected early on. I guess I will reconsider the position.
1. They said there will be 5 rounds with no case study
2. They said they have the budget approved for the salary range I am looking for
3. Promised me for Senior Product role and are offering me for Product role all of a sudden
3. Schedule 4 rounds instead of 5
4. Finalised and proceeded for offer in just 2 rounds
5. Start salary negotiation saying they don't have enough budget for the range I am looking for
6. I read their Glassdoor and it is pathetic
7. Came back today saying I will have to do a case study and only then they will decide whether to hire me or not and previous selection confirmation was miscommunication (WTF!!!!)
TL;DR: HRs are assholes when it comes to salary and low ball you and fuck such company with toxic processes and no clear mentality.24

My senior gave him a tough one to solve. Couldn't. Started shouting in between the interview that we tricked him with wrong question. Senior sat him down, told him how it was a right question. Dude got pissed. Stormed out of our office. Posted a review on Glassdoor calling our interview process rubbish and unnecessarily difficult.
I switched my job about 2 months ago. This was my first switch after college (in 7 years). I was at a senior position and was not learning anything new for few months and got really bored.
I had asked for a 100% hike in new company, they gave me over 150%. Apart from this, they offer free food and snacks (or reimburse if you order your food from outside). Unlimited leaves and work from home option. No fixed working hours (I see people working for only 5-6 hours some days). No sign of politics yet. People are very humble and help you out even on silly queries. Company is growing at a very fast pace, it was named in fastest x growing companies about a month ago in some report with growth rate of about 1000%.
I see people around me with so less experience than me but so much knowledge. Feels like I am fresher again and learning so much from them. FYI, I had worked in same field (tech) for initial 3 years of my career. Looking at seniors I am finally able to set goals.
This one time I saw CTO awake at 3 am collaborating actively in resolution of a production issue.
Having seen so much positive, I went over 100 reviews on Glassdoor to find out the only 2 negatives points ever written, one of them was slow Lift in building. The other a9

2) Only work on open source projects so you can see what you're getting yourself into.
3) Avoid job postings that use the words "polygot" and "passion" in the same sentence.
4) Work for yourself. Build a product or service to make you money, and if it doesn't pay for itself sell it.
Glassdoor is the perfect example of how annoying, even just opening a website can be, first it asks for your permission to use your location, then half the screen is filled with a cookie agreement and after you clicked it all away, you get a "download our app" filling just 30% of your screen, now that you clicked that all away, you may use the website, ludicrous.

Got a job offer... Long story...
Now I need guidance...
I am being paid X at current employer.
- Trust and culture
- Product knowledge and rapport with peers
- Live at home so no extra expenses
- B2B (which is affecting career trajectory)
I got an offer of 123% from new employer
- B2C Payments domain (long term benefits in career)
- Okay-ish hike (I would still be underpaid per various levels)
- Different city so adding expenses will bring me to near about current salary
- New place so have to build the trust
- Glassdoor says culture could be toxic
Now my paint points:
1. Immediate need for salary growth
2. Long term career I can build myself
3. Need a salary runway until I can score a decent brand/job with good work/domain
Now my manager said they are giving me a promotion with a salary hike as per my employer brand. So this hike range would be 100% of X to 400% of X.
1. Shall I go for retention at current employer getting a counter offer from them and build myself a runway?
2. Shall I take a leap of faith for long term compromising my immediate need of salary and take up the new job?
Doing the first will make me spoof the new offer letter a bit to bargain well with my employer, else they would not give me a decent raise.
Doing the second for long term, my past experience says long term strategy didn't work as I applied it and I am facing the heat now.
What should be my approach in this Pandemic situation considering my current employer is bigger brand than my next and there is a probation of 6 months (which is quite scary in current times).
P.S.: Meanwhile all this happens, I am talking to other great companies too.31
The wage for the publishing company is too low to my liking (see previous rant), has so many asterisks when it comes to payment that it's downright shady, and I'd rather work for a company that follows European standards and is located in Europe anyway. So I've started to look again for sysadmin jobs.

After leaving my previous employers behind, I think I'm finally ready to write negative reviews about them without getting into a rage.
The policies of glasdoor and similar platforms say to review a company, not individuals. However, as the saying goes, "employees don't quit companies, they quit managers". And that is 100% true for me. The reviews I'd write would in large parts be about how managers mistreat the people they're responsible for. In my case even to the point I needed therapy... so really really bad.
I'm not sure how to bring those two things together. Have you made similar experiences? How would you write such reviews? Thanks for any tips.5

Juggling two jobs, both being 100miles (~160km). apart from each other: one working for a big VFX studio as a render wrangler getting paid peanuts, and one as Junior SDET for an electronics company. I lasted 6 months on the former as I couldn't handle the insane drive anymore, and stayed on the latter for three more years due to the higher pay and comfy environment. I was really hoping to make connections with the former, too, since I wanted to get into Game Development or into programming cool VFX shit for Hollywood at least. Alas, I digress.
After I got laid off, I took an offer from a small company as a Graphics SWE that happened to have a terrible reputation. Upon reading glassdoor reviews and a few days deliberating, I just told myself: 'fuck it, I need a job so bad,' and took the offer. Turns out that was the perfect time to get hired (all the previous engineers are gone). Hell, those guys did not even practice proper version control, there was no git/svn repo to be found, and all their projects were in hard drives scattered somewhere in their office. I was a bit astounded. All the knowledge the devs had of the framework the company used were salvaged from tons of uncommented, spaghetti code. It was like the entire future of the company was riding on me and the other new guy that got hired 1 week before for the same position. A year later, CEO promoted both of us, which tripled my salary compared to my QA job.
Ohhh my god am I furious and this one's a gem.
Also I'm gonna namespoil all of the entities in my post. If this is against rant rules I'll reframe it.
So the story starts over an year ago. Me, being in a bad place, where I couldn't do a job due to external issues, wanted to try out an internship. Thought I could pull off a 5 hour shift and then attend to my problems.
THE INTERNSHALA ARC:
I apply to a bunch of applications on Angel, Internshala and Indeed.
I was contacted by a few handful of these places. One of them was called "ARCHITECTA SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS". These guys had arranged an online aptitude test for me which I promptly took.
I looked up this company and they seemed like a pretty okay big firm from the outset but didn't have many reviews on Glassdoor and likes of such. (first red flag). Post aptitude test, I was quite sure I fucked up and wouldn't get further contact. Surprisingly, a person from the company sends me his Whatsapp number over chat and asks me to save it. The message is worded like a bulk email (Starting with Hello everyone!!) which I thought was quite odd since the interaction from these platforms has always been a person-to-person contact for me. Since Internshala showed that only around 40 people applied for the position I was quite intrigued but attributed this to my lack of exp in internship operations.
THE WHATSAPP ARC:
I was contacted by the number on WhatsApp saying that they'd be interested in moving forward and I gave them my work experience details.
The person sends me over a development assignment to complete within a few days. The assignment consists of massive scope of details. I'm talking production level concept and implementation. Asks to me implement a custom emotion detection CV model (worded as "emotion camera" lmao), generate a 3d model (specified nowhere and expects to implement a mono-ocular system for the curious) and deploy it over AWS with a website to go along with it and also host that. The website should contain a VR ("360 rotatable") view that can explore the depth-map ("not worded as depth-map") of the face. My first assumption was that they had picked this work up for outsourcing and didn't bother to chip off parts so as to create an assignment out of it (I know very optimistic).
So I shoot it at him on WhatsApp asking which parts of the assignment should I do?
Him: So, which parts CAN you do?
I thought of it as an HR thing.
Me: I could do most of it but given the time-frame of the assignment and my applied position as a web developer it is perhaps out of scope for my application.
Him: Don't worry about the assignment. You can submit when you complete the whole assignment.
I was visibly angry over the stupidity of this man.
Me: This task is a Full-Stack + CV + VR task. It will take over two months to get working. Am I supposed to work on it for that long for an assignment?
Him: Okay just do the basic functionalities like add to cart. But also try to do the camera thing before next week.
At this point I'm sure that they are having trouble handling an eager client and they're offloading work to interns. So I do only the backend and minimal frontend and submit the assignment (a 2 day job done over a weekend).
Nothing. Empty. No messages since then. I tried sending in a Whatsapp message on the application and how to proceed. Then, if I could get to know if I have been rejected. Nothing.
And all this time I can clearly see the account is active as it pushes pretentious motivational quotes over it's Whatsapp status.3

So I get an email from college career development for a web developer & designer position.
Read into the requirements & function, I find this....
Who the fuck does put HARD CODING before CODING.. why would you even put that on the requirements. People are going to read that and find out how you run your company.
We all do some hard coding here & there but recruiters think it's a skill that comes before coding.. hard coding isn't coding hard...
They don't say company's name in email so I got suspicious.. or perhaps I thought I can be a detective lol. I was able to find out the company and looked at their Glassdoor.
Of course they have 1.6 stars.. two 1 star reviews by their employees. I can just imagine the horror working at this place lol.
Oh & the manager makes something like 110k.3
Frustrated... had a signed job offer disappear right before start date after jumping through a ton of hoops, turning down a competing offer, and wasting 3 days of PTO on their process, so back to interviews again.
How do you all determine what salary to ask/look for? Current job has pretty concrete pay bands that I'm pretty sure aren't market, but most of the site (glassdoor, etc) are all OVER the place, as titles can get so fuzzy from one place to another. From people I know I've heard everything from 20k less than I make to 70k more than I make (moderately high COL area, but not CA level). Levels.io seemed promising, but the one FANG offer I had didn't nearly match up with there, so I'm not sure how much of that is bluster or whatever... Blegh. I absolutely hate job hunting.6
Interviewing with three companies. First one extended an offer. I'm expecting an offer from at least one, possibly both, of the others (On-site with Second was yesterday and expecting an offer tomorrow or Mon, phone tech interview (they also had a tech screen) with Three was today and I /rocked/ it, expecting an onsite invite for next week).
The problem with being a badass is that the choice paralysis is SO OVERWHELMING. All three have features that I like and how do I choose.
I think I'm being overly influenced by the weekly massage, onsite barista, free nice breakfast/lunch, and ideal location of Second (the domain is finance, they have $$$). Oh and fucking 25 vacation days and amazing 401k matching. I mean how would I say no to an offer? But what if the work is actually beyond me? But they have seriously cranked their benefits package up to 11.
First is an in house product with external clients. The domain I don't find super interesting, but it has amazing Glassdoor reviews, seems like a decent environment, and really seems like a place to progress and grow as a professional. It is also the lowest salary of the three (both others are through Hired, so I know what they are offering).
Third is a consultancy where I'd really get to keep my skills relevant. Seems mad fast paced, which is a bit intimidating, and I don't know how well I'd handle the context switching of being on multiple projects at a time.
I mean, all of this is counting my chickens before they hatch. But I have a really good feeling about my chsnces with Second, though I suppose I still have a chance to botch my onsite with Third.

So, scenario was like, we friends were chatting on WhatsApp and talking about Germany as one of us has shifted there recently. After a 30-40 mins chat, I clicked on Google to search for some company(say 'xyz') .... Now this searching for company and chatting with friends are totally separate events. But when I typed 'xyz' , google suggested "xyz career Germany" and 'xyz Germany glassdoor'.
My question is that is it possible that Google is taking records of what am I typing anywhere(I've android phone) and using that to decide which suggestions should it be showing to me? Or am I thinking too much? 😌9
I was on glassdoor today, and a survey came up. The survey looks like market research for a product that sounds like it will be exactly like one of my side projects... Deciding if it's worth scrambling to beat them to market with what's barely a MVP and no marketing resources, or just chalking it up as fun and good experience.7

On a side note, my company already has just 3.4 out of 5 ratings on the basis of 3 ratings, on glassdoor... Now they're messing up with 2 employees on notice period. Both of us are planning to give 1. :)4
Do due diligence. Research the prospective employer. If possible, find out what their employees say about them on Glassdoor, and where they rank on Forbes best places to work.
tldr; measure the company by the people you meet.
It's all about the interview. Like others have said, you are also interviewing the company, and it's important to keep that in mind.
Try to be very aware of the demeanor of the people you meet. You can tell a lot about a company by the attitudes of it's employees. Do they smile, do they seem to be enjoying what their doing?
If the halls are quiet and the walls are gray, then the people's attitudes will tend to be gray (at least in my experience).
Check glassdoor and similar, and if you see a recurring theme of criticism then find a way to bring it up during the interview. Measure their response.

TLDR; Fuck those HR People
As I am near to finally finish my Bachelors Degree, I am searching for a Job to start my Career. For this my University has a yearly Event, where companies can present themselves and what Kind of Job offers they have for graduates. I had a real nice talk with a recruiter of a small Company that really fits my skills and sounded interesting. As I am a Little stresed bc of my Bachelors Degree, i wasnt able to send them my resume and stuff. But a few days later the women i talked to wrote a mail to me, that they are very interested in me and wanted to meet me at their place. Without asking me to send any docs. We decided that i will come over to them next week and then bring my resume. I was really happy bc this Job was still very interesting and i saw they pay good for their size on glassdoor.
BUT yesterday i got a mail from their Head of HR that the interview is cancelled bc they found someone else.
What? They hire someone (who is happy to get this Job now I hope) without even reading all the resumes of the interested? They asked ME to meet them and not the other way around. I have absolutely no idea how to react to this unprofessional behaviour…
