Every time my mac mini compiles and gives off too much warm air my workmate splits always our table with a cardboard. So i decide to decorate it a little bit...6
Me: ok fuck it, if the Mac mini gets refreshed I'm selling my desktop and getting one...
*Checks news and sees they got a refresh*
*Looks at cost to specs*
Me: ha... Ha... Ha... Nope...36

My IT team installed Antivirus on my 5 year old Mac Mini due to company security policy after the recent Ransomware attacks.
Now my Mac is slow as fuck. They are not even providing me new Mac, due to budget constraints. Totally fucked.
Fuck Ransomware. Fuck security policies. Fuck my company. Fuck everyone. Fuck everything. 😤12
A couple of years ago (2015)...
Me: If i'm going to develop iOS Apps i need a Mac, big screen, etc...
A few days go by...
Boss: Ok, we've ordered a Mac already
Boss: It's that small one, will be ok...
Me: <Check mac models and wonder the implications of "small">
Boss: It's the cheapest one plus a 21 inch monitor. Keyboard and Mouse you already have...
Me: <incredulous> At least order a mac keyboard...
Time goes by... Boss comes to discuss something about the app... i change something and check on the emulator (yes no real devices...) and boss complains:
Boss: Incredible, this machine is so slow...
Me: <throws a shrug>
Conclusion... still developing on this machine... damn.. i can read a newspaper every now and then while waiting for the machine to comply...
Put your Mac Mini on Xiaomi Air Purifier with max speed for motor to prevent overheating.9
On the first day of Christmas, the bossman gave to me: The fact that my new computer purchase order needs to be OKed by the CEO and I need to continue working on a 2014 Mac Mini (i5-4260U, 8 Gig RAM, GPU shot by an ESD on the case long ago) for the next year.
On the second day of Christmas, my family gave to me... a good reason to get shitfaced
On the third day of Christmas, getting shitfaced gave to me: A hangover and some urgent plastic welding job that had to be done with a soldering iron. FML, I've had a headache before breathing in pure hydro-cyano-whatthefuckyougetwhenyoumeltplastics
On the fourth day of Christmas, my team gave to me: A legacy, age-old Rails 2 project that was written by an intern and never reviewed, went to prod in 2014 and can't be changed anymore, but needs to be changed after the fact that it has zero test coverage and needs 100 % now to prevent issues and costly manual testing.
On the fifth day of Christmas, devrant gave to me: The Idea that making fun of Christmas songs to get over the sheer amount of dicks that working over the twelve days of Christmas sucks.
To be continued...2
Imac - brand new <16hrs used: Disk error, probably needs to return to apple
iPhone <6 months old: loses cover
iPhone case 2hours of use: loses color
Macbook Pro 2017: randomly shuts down...
Mac mini: CPU halted error
Other iMac (old one): Thread error...
Apple, what the f is going on??? Software problems with root etc. But now, what the f!!10
Better late than never. 3 monitors for my pc, 1 for the Mac mini.
@localhost I finally cleaned up the empty beer bottles and soda cans, so... lol8
So... After reading up on the theoretical stuff earlier, I decided to make a real AI that can identify handguns and decide whether it's a revolver or a semiautomatic with 95 percent accuracy...
Well, basically, I been browsing my local gun store's online store for four hours for training data, killed a Mac mini while first training the system and I think I ended on the domestic terrorism watch list... Was that black sedan always there?
Anyway... It's working fairly accurate, my monkey wrench is a revolver by the way.
Isn't AI development a wonderful excuse for all kinds of shit?
"why do you have 5000 pictures of guns on your computer?" - "AI development"
"why did you wave around a gun in front of your web cam" - "AI development"
"why is there a 50 gram bag in your desk?" - "AI development"
Hmm... yeah well... I think it might work. I could have picked a less weird testing project, but... No.7
-Laptop for the convenient mobility.
-Old Mac Mini for iOS builds.
Here is where I pretend to do work.
Got a second 1080p monitor for Xmas ans it gave me an excuse to clean my desk off ;)
I included the obligatory 'screenfetch' window as well, haha.
Now to see if I can hack together something resembling a KVM switch from parts I have, to use the Mac mini on one of them (when it's needed on rare occasion, lol).
P.s. I'm sure many of you have more bad ass setups, I even used to have quads myself... But I'm not posting this to start some pissing contest! It's just mine and I'm proud of it :P
Happy new year everyone!!!!6
Last week I finished what I thought to be unpaid work experience working in IT (more like programming), at the end of it I had a meeting with the boss who offered me paid work next summer and also gifted me a £150 amazon voucher for the work I did.
I sold my XBOX (ew the unproductivity) and use the voucher to buy a Mac Mini. Going from Windows, Mac OS X is significantly better, I prefer bash to power-sh*t.
TLDR; I worked for 5 weeks and got a Mac3
I took apart 2014 Mac Mini today. I don't wanna ever do that again. It was horrible experience.
Also fuck Torx TR6 screws.8
Well, I just wasted £250. I needed a Mac to build iOS apps so I got the newest Mac Mini with lowest specs (I’m still a student). I thought that 4GB would be enough as my laptop runs fine with 4 but NOPE.
ITS SUPER SLOW, XCode takes >10 minutes to even launch and RAM is always at max, I even had to get the Mac Mini without upgradable ram.
I worked all summer just to get a Mac which is sluggish, :/.7
I made a bit of a tradition of building a list of hardware that's superior to whatever Crapple is releasing whenever Crapple releases something - and for the first time, I decided to make it public instead of just sharing it with some coworkers.
Making it public however took some time (luckily, yesterday was a holiday here, so I got it done now) - at least, making it looking "not like shit" took some time.
So enjoy my (very basic) bootstrap templated, yet possibly useful list of builds superior to the Crapple Rag Mini (which is a completely fictional entity not resembling any existing company in the world. Promise. Totally. Penguin's swear.)
The list can be found here - expect to see an update anytime Crapple pushes new shit to the market:
(possibly not safe for work, children, catholics and SJWs). Yeah, no SSL cert, currently. Hell, it's a private server, it doesn't process any of your info and it doesn't offer downloads... I might add one in the future.
I hope you can forgive my shameless self-promotion, it's not a commercial site, there are no ads/shitcoin miners on it and i don't get a share/cut/whatever - just a small humorous joke project. For now.
BTW: I didn't attempt to build any of those. It should work, but please don't sue me if it doesn't.5
My employer uses latest and greatest macbooks. It's fuking awesome. I wasn't a fan until I found the ease of android and iOS development on it. I even started using Atom for web development. And I bought a Mac mini for a dedicated jenkins server. I don't think I'll ever go back to windows. There's just no point. I know it's expensive but it gets the job done. No more fukin mac VMs on VMware. Fuk that shit.22
I'm currently pentesting a web app on a Mac Mini with 8 Gigs of RAM and a i5-4620 using OWASP ZAP. Third time the fuzzer got stuck, the RAM's full an the CPU's permanently at 100 %.
Before starting this job, I always said that pentesting on this POS is like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
When I kicked off two fuzzers at once, I started feeling like bringing a cocktail sword to a thermonuclear war.
It's not even 10 here and I already wish for some booze. Damn, I gotta start making moonshine or something.5
How come a Mac Mini with 4GB of RAM is MUCH MUCH faster than an iMac with 8GB of RAM!
When the rest of the specs are identical ...10
Been using my 2013 mac mini to code at work and I will have to say this little guys is a trooper. I would recommend for anybody looking for a cheap dev desktop.....install an ssd if you can.5
Unbelievable !!! In reference to this: https://devrant.com/rants/2131796/...
The process that was killing performance was, Watchman! I don't even understand I don't have any node stuff running why is watchman starting on system boot ... it was taking sweet 512MB of RAM
Everything now runs smoothly ...3
So, even as a long-time Apple user, overall there really wasn't too much exciting in the announcement last week.
That said, seeing the Mini get a spec bump caused the ears to prick up a bit. My 2014 is running fine, so it'd be a bit capricious to upgrade, but it does have one very annoying limitation:
It *will* *not* allow me to run 3 monitors at once.
Found this out for certain when I first got it and plugged one into each Thunderbolt port, and then another into HDMI, producing a courteous notice that I needed to remove one of them due to GPU limitations.
Anyone who knows more about hardware than me able to speculate if the new one might be able to support said extra monitor?14
I want to start iOS development soon. I'm thinking of buying a Mac mini, but I hear that line might be getting a refresh this March. But I kinda want to start using one like, yesterday...6
After spending lots of money on a Mac mini 2014, ngrox, and other dev tools to get jenkins working for android, iOS, and node.js, I'm giving up and switching to bitbucket pipelines. Recently, my web builds having been taking +25 mins just downloading node modules. Let's see how fast bitbucket pipelines is. Especially with caching node modules.1
I'm running unintuitive server on a Mac mini for home Dev type stuff and it's running warm but quick. Has two virtual containers innit as well - admittedly I'm not banging it hard but seems fine.
Would be interested in other views is Linux server as on Linode Ubuntu seems to be standard1
Does anybody know a good, not so expensive Mini PC? Something like an Apple Mini. Maybe I want to buy something like that to have a quiet, Little pc at my Home Desk so I Can work with it. It should run Linux quite well (drivers)5
What are your thoughts on Apple's latest conference where it introduced the new iPad and updates to Mac Mini and Macbook Air?6
Hmm, thinking of getting a surface book and dual booting Linux on it for my laptop and then a Mac mini for iOS development for uni, what do you guys think?7
