Today at work I got a strange email
'about your msi laptop'
(Some background information, a few months ago I went on vacation and left my work laptop at home. Long story short some one broke in and stole my msi laptop)
So this email had my interest. I opened it and the content was something like:
Hi! My name is x, I clean/repair laptops partime and I noticed your personal information on this laptop, normally people whipe their data from their laptop before selling so this is just a double check, if the laptop was stolen please call me on xxx
If I hear nothing I'll assume its alright and will whipe your data
So of course I immediately called him, after a conversation I informed the police who is now working on the case7
Finally finished my AMD Watercooled build 🤤
Now my code can run cooler 😂

Fuck Google Chrome and fuck you too MSI...
Why the hell would you not allow me to register my motherfucking MSI motherboard without installing Chrome first.
We are now at this point where Web Devs are refusing to make a simple shitty html form work unless it is running in Google Chrome...
You know what? Shove a big fat horse dildo up your ass.. I'm not registering this piece of shit and if I find the dev behind this, I will shove the entire MoBo up their ass without lube just to watch them scream in pain and agony.20
When I started programming Batch Files I decided to go big and and make an Batch Program with a fully functional UI system. Just when I had finished the first menu I kept getting a "goto was unexpected at this time" or something like that. I did everything I could to see about debugging until I finally cleared my calender and spent the next week debugging. A week of debugging goes by and I see someone coding in color rather then black and white at my school. I walk up to him and ask. "What language is that?" To which he replies "Batch". I asked him how he got Notepad to be in color and he simply pointed to the top left of the screen and it said Notepad++.
I get home later that day and look up "Notepad++" and download the first thing I see. I install the .msi file and I see a language bar at the top of the screen. Set it to batch, and drag my .bat file into the program to see six of my dividers are red bars. I look this up and see there's another spacing option "echo.", I replace my current spacers with this and the whole thing starts working. Fml, that's a week I'm never gonna get back3
Is posting your setup still a thing on devRant? Because I finally have one of my own now - not too fancy but works well for me. My humble abode :)28
Do you ever go into a public space and see everyone with their dell xps, acer swift 3, asus zenbook, msi gaming laptops, and then pull out your cheap af heavy plastic laptop and think to yourself:
"Why aren't I rich?"9

My father-in-law wants me to buy a new computer for him. He's currently using an old Acer minitower running more malware than real software on shitty Windows Vista. He only uses Email (Outlook 2003), Facebook and Youtube. I'm gonna get him a MSI Cubi Intel N3700/4GB/120GB SSD with Linux Mint and problem solved. No more malware/virus calls from him. I'm installing Mint on Vbox right now and I'm loving it from second 0.16
My new motherboard (MSI Z170 GAMING AC) reports temps for the memory, CPU, GPU and hard drive in °C. And the motherboard temp in °F.
Almost had a fucking heart attack the first time I opened Speccy for benchmarking.
Ok i post it a bit late but what the hell.
This is my monster now! I now shall conquer the world!
MSI GL62 7RD
with that configuration:
CPU: i5 7300HQ
RAM: 8GB DDR4
HDD: WB blue (small laptop one) 1TB
Ok i already had that configuration for a while... but it was sloooowwwww D:
That is why for my birthday/chrismas i bought myself additional 8GB of ram and a tiny nvme ssd to make everything 1000x faster! 😎
1 ++ for a person who reads how big the ssd is...14
As some of you may remember about 5 months ago I bought a Lenovo laptop, it had some hardware faults so I got a new one and it had the same faults the store didn't want to offer me a new Lenovo laptop.
I was told to pick a laptop from a selection and today the store is trying to push the product away saying they can't do a thing.
Tonight I'm meeting with a lawyer because the fight has begun.8
I can't stand my MSI laptop keyboard. The enter key is 2x smaller to make place for a bigass * key, and the > is at the right of space key... Writing HTML makes me want to shoot myself.
What are your keyboard constructors lunacies ?3
My first real exposure to a PC was when my father and me built one for myself. Y'know, some AMD Athlon 64, some MSI board, 2 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA 8600 GT, everything was nice.
I never put malware on that thing even though I heavily used it for things like games, I was really cautious with that even when I was like 6 years old (but my father once accidentally did, he killed it by damaging the filesystem on the harddrive which, funny enough, only took the malware with it)
I still have that PC, but it now has weird issues with memory management ;-;
I finally turned my MSI laptop into a fully functioning dev machine. I just activated Windows Linux Subsystem, and got XCFE4 to run, then installed some Jetbrain IDEs ontop of it. And I'm straight up in business. Now I don't need to go out and buy the new shitty Macbook pros for $3k11
I bought a Macbook about 6 month ago and I became in love with development in it... I've got a fucking MSI dream PC sitting here with two monitors acting as a glorified paperweight...
Its so weird because I know I could just put some Linux distro and use it more often but its almost like so many years of Windows make you doubt that you can ever fully leave the ecosystem... Its like some sort of sick Stockholm syndrome.5
MSI GV series gaming laptop
Do I see standard li-ion batteries? Can it be replaced by ourselves?
If yes, fantastic, wish more manufacturers support this, especially for workstation / development laptops.18
Holy fuck EA (yea I went there)
So here I am playing NFS Heat, and my laptop is hot enough to cook eggs on the keyboard, no joke, yet spec wise I should have 0 issues running this game.
I switch on the turbo cool (basically spin the internal fans at full speed... It's an MSI) and this usually covers any heating issues, nope... not this time.
this fucker of a fan can't keep up , so I've turned down the settings from ULTRA, that's depressing, to Medium... it feels like 2006 showed back up, but here's this laptop still burning a whole in my fingers.
My GPU (GTX1060 6GB) is running at 95'c on Medium graphics, and LOW looks like I fell into a 8bit world with slow ass rendering.
Guess I'm going to need to get some cooling assistance for this thing.
Thank you EA for turning my 2.5k laptop into a stove top, I appreciate it.
I guess the name checks out, "heat"14
They did it. They really did it.
Oh my... I can't believe it.
I suggested app admins find a way to enable keep-alive in the app. And they installed it.
I mean it. KeepAlive_setup_v1.4.msi is what I found on the desktop.
Next, I feel like suggesting to download more RAM... After this stunt, I wouldn't even be surprised.....2
What's your most trusted computer part manufacturer list? Personally, it goes something like this:
CPU: AMD. They're performing at or above Intel's spec, without the weekly IME holes. Sometimes cost a little more, but they last way longer.
GPU: AMD, ASUS, MSI. MSI is usually over-priced but performs a smidge better, ASUS is usually a good middle-ground. Anything with an AMD chipset's usually gonna hold together fairly well, though, and won't require massively-unstable closed-source drivers for decent Linux performance. "but muh cuda" doesn't fly when OpenCL is actually, well, open.
Storage: Seagate, obviously, and SanDisk for cheap SSDs. SanDisk SSDs, especially their cheapest ones, are durable as shit for price. As for the Seagate pick... is that not self-explanatory?
Mobo: ASUS, ASRock if you need garbage in a pinch. ASUS boards are usually fairly tough, and ASRock is cheap trash for that backup tower that's gone bad in the closet.
PSU: EVGA, accept no substitute. EVGA PSUs are durable as fuck and fairly cheap, compared to other "ultra-durable" brands.39
Addition to my posts about getting accepted to faculty of information technology at the Czech Technical University in Prague:
I am now officially in the student life mode :D
Tasting the life at a dormitory and living on my own... (still okay considering that I don't have to work for money, I just ask my mom to send more money when I don't have anything to eat so I can buy the cheapest food I can find to live yet another day 😇)
Soo does anyone reading this post happen to be living at koleje Strahov? I'm in block 7 and you can find me by looking for an MSI gaming notebook with devRant stickers all over it. Hit me up and we can go out and have some beers :)1
Install Instagram, Facebook.
Utter words like "Gaming Laptop" "Predator" "MSI" while screen being locked.
Voila, you get an ad.
PS: I swear I didn't search for any MSI or gaming laptops in google or even typed those words in recent past.6
My road trip still lasts for another 5 hours and my laptop does not have power anymore 😧😧😧
I could refactor or comment so much code. Maybe add even more loggings and unit tests, but noooo 😔4
So I'm learning docker. As I see it, I can make an image that runs code in any number of languages then I can package it into a .deb file that people on a few Linux distros can just install and run. https://blog.codeship.com/using-doc...
If I'm making a non-Gui command line utility, can I not also just pop the image into a .pkg, an .rpm, or an msi? Then my super crazy docker build can run natively in a shell on any machine that supports one of the packages I create? Or am I missing something?1
Aaayoo issya boi the OG rapper straight outta Compton, wassup?!
Nah, for real, though.: How are y'all doing? It has been a long time. I hope y'all are having a great time (can sense some peoples' incoming negative comments due to corona).
I built my completely new first gaming rig like a few weeks ago after my school laptop stopped showing any signals.
The specifications are the following.:
- Mobo: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (no iGPU)
- dGPU: KFA2 RTX 2070 SUPER OC
- 2nd dGPU: GTX 550 TI (this one gets a new rant/post)
- RAM: 2x G.SKILL Ripjaws V 8 GB 3600 MHz
- PSU: Be quiet 650 W (It was the platinum edition afaik. I originally bought the 600 Watt Gold edition, but somehow they sent me the 650 Watt for no additional charge... which is great for me haha)
- HDD: 2x 4TB NAS HDD in RAID1 configuration (to load all of my games around 2 TB right now. Got the two HDDs for 110 Euro including the SATA Data cables)
- SSD: One Intenso 240 GB SSD and a reused Samsung 256 GB SSD from my old broken Lenovo laptop
- Case: Be quiet Pure Base 500 black with a glass panel on the side
While building my first PC, it was one hell of a challenge. I knew how it all was working in theory, but to put it all together, practically, was a bit of a challenge, but it was a nice challenge. I learned a lot and have a performance gain I could only ever dream of.
I used to play my games first on a Toshiba satellite l750d laptop (around 40 fps in cs:go with the lowest gfx settings) and then on a Lenovo e51-80 laptop (around 30 fps max minecraft with no shaders and texture packs).
Now I play cs:go on Kubuntu with 400 fps at peak with ultra high graphics. It is unbelievable.
I couldn't trust the system when I turned on the fps display the first time I saw it.9
Google Japanese Input's Installation failed with code 1402 ( MSI killed the installation)
So I unpacked this .msi file using 7z and copied them to a directory, started all .exe programs, it worked....
A weird way to install software..5
Acer vs MSI Laptops.
Five years ago I bought an acer aspire vn7-591 laptop in Redcoon. It was the expensive laptop I bought ever in those days. My experience at the beginning was really bad because the battery laptop crashed after few months and the screen had some vague/dead pixels, but the worst was the imminent bankruptcy of Redcoon. So I couldn't use the warranty. Anyway, It didn't bother so much I have been enjoying this laptop and still doing it. However, last year the screen put me on alert since it started to fail with vertical bars and color changes.
It was time to buy a new computer and due to the problems with some of the components, I've decided to buy a laptop from a company with a better reputation than Acer in aspects as the reliability of the components.
My choice was a Msi Prestige 15 because of the thunderbolts, since the rest of specs are 'more or less similar', although it has more updated hardware, it is lighter, battery holds up to 4-5 hours etc... But... It is really noisy compared to my Acer computer. 2 CPU fans are around 3000 rpm in idle state... Acer seems to be working without using the fans if you are doing intensive work. I google it as I thought it was a factory problem, but it seems to be not a malfunctioning... In fact I found other users complaining about the same and the community proposed to reduce the fan speed through software.
Right now I have both laptops working and since the new boy is in house, Acer is working flawlessly. I am preparing the Acer for my girlfriend as a gift, otherwise it is a pitty to shut it down and store it in a wardrobe.
So, this is my impression about ACER and MSI. I m still experiencing with the new laptop, but I find weird things like the fan speed or how hot it gets in idle despite it uses a new generation of intel i7 cpu with lower consumption... I should monitor the power consumption...8
So Im planning to build a pc, which i will mainly use it for dev and gaming in free time, my main components will be:
CPU: INTEL 8700K
GPU: GTX 1080 msi or gigabyte?
SSD: 860 EVO
RAM: 16GB 3200MHZ
MOTHERBOARD: should i go with msi or gigabyte whixh one is better?
PSU: 650W or 700W deepcooler?
Also for the cpu cooler do i get water colling or a standard cpu fan?
P.S: i plan to overclock the cpu and gpu at some point.
Also whats your opinion on the rgb lightning gpu and motherboard, and is there point in getting a mobo with sli support (is it work buying second gpu at some point or better upgrade the existing)4
One cool thing with owning my MSI(24G of ram, 8 core I7 6th generation) is that when one tab crashes on chrome and uses by itself 4Gig of ram. Well the other tabs still work like nothing is happening.
Only 1 or 2 core are at 100% but nothing else breaks.
I love it!!! <35
I cannot believe that MS has not thought of something better than UAC... trying to re-install ADConnect after fixing an error, msi shits out 2502/2503 errors even though it worked first time on the original install. The fix, run the msi from an elevated cmd. Come On Microsoft!!!7
Some hardware experts here? Looking to upgrade my PC soon, and would like some opinion on the parts I chose. I'm going for a minimalistic Mini-ITX productivity build, but gaming also.
- CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X
- CPU Cooler: AMD Wraith Prism
- GPU: MSI RX 570 8GB Armor (already have it)
- RAM: 2x 8GB TridentZ RGB
- 1. SSD: Corsair Force MP510 240GB M2 SSD
- 2. SSD: Samsung EVO 860 1TB SSD
- PSU: Corsair CX550M
- MoBo: Asus ROG Strix B350-L Mini-ITX
- Fans: 6x Thermaltake Riing 12 RGB
- Case: NZXT H200i24
So sick of my coworker explaining to me how I should do a task. Dude, I've already planned out how I'm going to handle the situation. If you really want to help, wait until I create my pull request, review it, and then make your suggestions there. Unless I ask for your advice on how to do something, I don't need you to tell me how you would do things, especially since i have, what, 5 years working in the framework when you have 2 months?
Hello, I'm looking for a new machine but since I'm not very good with hardware, I'd like to ask for help:
I have a 7yrs old lenovo ideapad Y580, and even though I don't really play anymore on pc, I still would like the machine to last.
At first I was thinking about a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 7 - Intel 10th Gen, but maybe I should go with a gaming laptop for the sake of the good specs? But then, which one? MSI, alienware ...?
And I'm a front-end, so I still need to be able to open graphic files.
This conversation happened yesterday between me and a client:
"I need drivers for my Hackintosh build, macOS doesn't find and install the graphics card and the NIC"
I laughed at first, then i asked him his configuration..
"I have a 6700K and an MSI M3 H170"
Okay, things are getting worse here...
"So do you know the difference between H170 and Z170?"
"Yes, I have bought an H170 one because i do not overclock"
"Then, tell me why the f*ck you have bought a K processor if you do not f*cking overclock..."
"Because is more powerful"
F*ck no, he didn't said that...
My motherboard is msi a320 pro-vds with ryzen 5 2400g. My friend gave me her rx570 nitro+ 8gb. Will it be compatible with my system?8
I want to buy a laptop; so I went with the MSI GS66, but I don't know which option to choose, the 2070 Max Q or the RTX 2060. Both have about the same performance, but I don't know if the bigger RTX 2070 Max Q chip will affect battery life. Is the RTX 2070 Max Q worth the extra 300 dollars. Will it affect battery life? Will it run hotter?10
