A big shoutout to all software vendors, who, at the top of their product homepage, simply explain to you in 2-3 non-bullshit sentences what their product actually does, and what it is used for. I fucking love you.
And a big fat middle finger to all the rest with your useless buzzword gobbledygook. Go to hell.9 -
It's quite awesome how some people can make you realize how much you actually know about some stuff and how skilled you are on a certain subject.
Shoutout to @404response for making me realize that i actually know quite some stuff about security/privacy and also a shoutout to @devisionbyzero for making me realize that I'm actually quite good with linux/linux servers :).
Thanks guys!13 -
here's a shoutout to 90% of websites today:
NO, I DO NOT WANT YOUR F*CKING NEWSLETTER! STOP ASKING!
NO, I DO NOT WANT YOUR F*CKING NOTIFICATION! STOP ASKING!
NO, I DO NOT WANT TO SHARE MY F*CKING LOCATION! STOP ASKING!
NO, I DO NOT WANT ANY F*CKING COOKIES! STOP ASKING!
website publishers ary whining about adblockers, but keep shoving so much shit down our throats that even a dozen browser addons can't make the web usable. the internet was such a great place once, where did we go wrong?
(rhetorical question. it's when we made access to the internet so easy, that every 100% tech-illiterate idiot could get online.)14 -
Shoutout to the guy who stored his entire website in a JSON file and then asked me why his app wasnt working2
-
Yesterday way my one year devRant anniversary! It's been a good year guys and gals (and whatever genders are out here). I can't be bothered to look up rant counts etc right now because I'm in the middle of my exams and I'm fucking exhausted but a bit thanks to trogus and dfox for creating this awesome platform and also a big shoutout to all the awesome people I met through here and have good contact with :). Keep rocking, devs!2

My world of devRant just lit up:
Did you know:
1) you get free stickers it a rant hits 30++ (you need to write a mail)
2) they have a YouTube channel with cartoons which are hilarious!!!!! I fucking love the sound effects 😍 since they r based on real rants it’s even better!
Shoutout to the YouTube channel!12 -
Robots done, for now! Well, the basics are done. Just fueling up at the moment :)
Tomorrow I'll put up a little gif of it moving around, but I wanted to get this out as soon as possible, because making physical things isn't my strong point, and I ran into a lot of problems
Shoutout to my school for having a free to use laser cutter2 -
There was a pretty big bug that I spent all day trying to pinpoint. It was getting really late, so I called it a night and went to sleep.
That night, I dreamed that I was still at the computer, debugging. I kid you not, in the dream I both found the bug and realized what the fix needed to be. In that moment, I woke up.
I ran straight to the computer down the hall, and sure enough, that was the issue and that was the fix.
Shoutout to the capabilities of the human brain.
Thanks, brain!4 -
Basically: Shoutout to my dad!
My dad's not an engineer or anything. But he likes building PCs and has a bunch of tech at home.
Well, thanks to him, I had a PC very early on, and of course, I did the typical skiddie stuff it, aka "fake batch virus haha funny" and playing Minecraft.
Well, at some point, after tinkering with mods to enhance the quality of gameplay, I found the ultimate mod: Macro / Keybind Mod.
This mod allows you to bind stuff to keybinds, such as commands or chat messages, or... Macros.
This mod has a custom macro language. (Hint: This is where the fun begins)
Another mod I used was AutoSwitch. However, that mod required a "core mod" (aka library installed in a dumb way). I thought, "why do I install 2 mods to get 1 thing? dumb", and made an ugly macro with lots of nested if-elses, which perfectly emulated AutoSwitch behavior for the Minecraft version I was on.
Yup, I basically got rid of 2 jar files in my mods folder by making my own ugly macro.
The fact that I recreated something in an obscure language, having not even coded any program before, made me grow interest into actual programming languages.3 -
Shoutout to YouTube for auto-translating "You suck at cooking ep 23" to "Sie saugen beim kochen episode 23".
Dankeschön16 -
WHEN will people understand, that FUCKING SHOUTING IN THEIR PHONES in public transportation will NOT
NOT
NOT transmit their FUCKING voice faster, or louder or more clearly or FUCKING ANYTHING.8 -
A shoutout to all the cool guys and gals who are not afraid of covid-19 and see no reason to be careful or take all (any) the safety measures available...
A shoutout to all the cool kids who claim to believe that this is "just a flu".
Feast your eyes on this comparison. We have that low deaths rate (so far) ONLY because we are taking this shit seriously and we take all the precautions we can. Now imagine if the Infected numbers were as high as the Spanish flu -- 33% of the population? Numbers start to get real scarry when you start making conversions to absolute values. considering mortality rates this "just a flu" is the most lethal of all the major flu pandemics since late 19th century (according to this ref.)
Guys, gals, non-binaries, stay safe. Care for yourselves and peeps around you.

A BIG SHOUTOUT TO MY FRIEND @theKarlisK
He is the real MVP.
We both spent the weekend to setup OpenVPN + Pi-Hole on Oracle free tier.
He hand held me through the entire process, was super patient with my silly queries and in fact explained me everything so well that it got imprinted in my mind.
And ofc, he was super quick to debug and resolve issues and handed me all the commands for quick execution.
Super glad to have worked with him on this project.11 -
BE GONE CLOWN!!!! MAY YOU BE CAST BACK UNTO THE DEPTHS FROM WHICH YOU HAVE SPRUNG!!!!!
🪄✨
👻👹👺
🤡
can't wait to be absolutely fuck you rich while the clowns continue to fumble around in the sandbox for the next 5 years 🪣⛏️😂😂😂
all those years, crouched over a laptop, learning React, then TypeScript, then PostgreSQL, then .NET, then React Hooks, then Redux Toolkit, then Golang, then GraphQL, and even RabbitMQ and gRPC mixed in... more and more and more............ IT'S TIME TO SPREAD MY WINGS AND FUCKING FLY BABY!!!!!
why work for clueless clowns when your own technical know-how is literally 1000x (or perhaps infinitely) theirs? Was I an idiot? Yes, I was! Way too nice and I bought into the hype fake idiot brain culture, but now I've finally woken up. Time to ascend to the stars by myself.
Cheers devRant, this 🤡 is finally going to transform into a 👨🚀🚀
You may not hear from me for a while sadly, but I'll be sure you guys get the first shoutout - see you on 🪐rant one knows limit saturn tag really going to break devrant tag limit no mars emoji manifesto clown no done with clown3 -
My dad actually. He's been in the industry for 40+ years. (Mostly answers my questions with a question and we end up talking about a whole different concept but in the end he's an amazing teacher.)1
-
Shoutout to the homies who work with people younger than them at the same level and just ignore what we say based on this fact. You fucking muppets.5
-
Shoutout to all the sales people in every organisation: the thing that you are selling with so much pride, someone smarter than you is making it. Don't be an asshole to the developer.
-
I'd like to give a shoutout to the best tool I ever had when I worked in hardware and had to troubleshoot ethernet. The "RLFLTWKW". (The Really Long Fly Lead That We Know Works)
My friend that I worked with long ago just dug it out of a drawer and sent me a photo so we could remember the days when trying to figure out why Mavis couldn't get on the network anymore could be resolved by our faithful friend "TRLFLTWKW". I miss you buddy. You made life so much better.
I wish I had an equivalent to you for coding. -
!rant this is just a shoutout, how fucking happy I am. Clean code valued over fast but hacky push of features!
Backstory. I work for a startup. Long story short a guy with an idea needed a developer. I've worked for about a year without pay but now since we're live I get paid. Recently a new field of bussiness came up. I told tge guy with the idea (a.k.a. my boss) that we either could just "hack" the current code to just make it "fit" well kind of... Or refactor our main code base, as requirements where changing at least monthly and we just built on top of the monolith.
Don't get me wrong. It still isn't perfect. However I was able to refactor the main business logic for the last few days, as he understood, it's an investment into the future.
Good guy!
P.S. On another note: happiness or happyness? :O1 -
Big shoutout to @king; just took a look at your website and frameworks; i like. I'll be using that CSS framework of yours in the near future
And i saw a little error on its page. You have a paragraph pertaining to the nav under the cards example. Just letting ya know7 -
Shoutout to all my fellow ranters with boring ass non dev related jobs! Working in a shop to get myself through uni sucks2
-
Shoutout to https://ytmp3.cc for being the only web youtube downloader that actually works, is actually quick, downloads "copy-protected by copyright" videos and has a dark theme.
Only the occasional popup ad on mobile, too. Goddamn this is good.
only downside is that it's always Highest Available quality and only MP3/MP4... but other than that it's fucking amazing6 -
So, apparently at our fare the ducks are not used correctly...
Somehow, they didn’t unterstand when I tried to explain how to use ducks properly... -
Shoutout to all the devops people currently on their parent's WiFi trying to fix a database issue in production
-
Shoutout to any CommBank developers, I've been dreading going in to a branch to open an account - turns out it's only a 3 minute exercise using the website 😌👏 👏1

very interesting how uni stressed me tf out but is still better than school has been.
I'm taking a class which has a theoretical and practical part, and there is a guy leading the practical lesson. and after struggling to find motivation for studying, this class somehow probably gives me my hopes back... even though I'm way less capable than the rest in what we're doing, I still can follow everything, which is very suprising to me because I'm always behind and the class has some recommended classes I should've taken before (but I failed some or didn't take them at all)... I still can follow the class somehow?
so... school taught me to not ask question because even if they say there are no dumb questions... the possibility still existed that I could ask a dumb question (shoutout to my math teacher in 3rd class). so... I stopped and when I didn't understand something I gave up.
now... this class makes me feel differently, I can ask questions and the guy I've talked about talks to me normally, talks to me as human beings should talk with each other and doesn't judge me for making a mistake, because... mistakes are human and when I allow myself to ask questions I can learn from it.
this is really a weird epiphany I had this week
and I also don't know if anything of this makes sense1 -
I know it's taking me a quite some time to release the AltRant update but I am constantly finding more places to improve loading times and whatnot. The fix list is getting longer as I go...
Also, massive shoutout to @johnmelodyme for helping me with the SwiftRant library and finding those crazy bugs and weird typos and genreal improvements, his contributions are literal goldmine!5 -
Well. I have to go on a competiton about informatics in two weeks.
This is my programm: https://github.com/MaximilianJugend...
As its a competiton for kids, I dont expect anybody to match a compiler (not trying to be rude. The competitors try to compete with nxt programs.), but it wouldnt look nice, if there were Bugs. So shoutout to german people who are bored to death: could you please test my program and open as many issues as possible? ;) thanks in advance5 -
a fuckin famous celebrity here in PH ask for favor to his graphic designers fans to do his twitch and youtube logo design for a SHOUTOUT in compensation. A. SHOUTOUT. Now he has been offically a MEME all over the social media.1

BIG FUCKING SHOUTOUT: THANKS!
Thanks Devrant for being the only app (for entertainment on my device) that works well with fucking 64kbit/s when out of data mid month.

I mean, can even the folks at MS make sense of Teams..?
"Open Teams, select the Client's Teams and in the standup Team write a shoutout for the team"
damn it!2 -
i dont know npm
today i learned `npm install` in root project directory doesn't do what running `npm install` in a subdirectory that actually has a package.json
in this case there was no package.json at the root project directory if it matters
shoutout to fucking eslint not telling me to try installing the fucking packages it can't fucking find, as im a monkey who doesnt know what their doing
well i suppose this is irrelevant since there's yarn, gulp, webpack or whatever is the new hot front end package manager thing1 -
When I go to sleep nowadays, I leave both my laptop and my phone charging in the other room. Now, my bedside doesn't even have a power strip nearby.
Yes, I go to bed without my devices. Crazy!
(shoutout to my antidepressants)4 -
Shoutout to C0D4 - you da real MVP!
Tried to subscribe to your rants, but it looks like that feature is suddently missing? Not sure, since I'm a 🤡4 -
Shoutout to the guy who made the Starfall vscode theme, I'm really loving it so far. This theme is fantastic, supports over 50 languages, and also super underrated, with only ~650 downloads. Definitely worth checking it out
