Really want to get shit done today.
Lets browse Spotify for 3 hours to find good focus music.
Spend 2 hours designing a new IDE color theme and inspections which should really help me do code reviews faster
Oh, lunch time!
Maybe after lunch I should read some random clickbait blog posts on organizational paradigms.
And now I'm stranded on devRant. 😫13

I never understood Snapchat.
- Its a text messaging app with all the useful features removed
- Its a camera app that deletes all the photos you take with it
- Its a news app that only shows you clickbait11
Reading an article on the web these days:
1.) "Sign up for our newsletter!"
3.) "You need to log in to view this article"
4.) "Do you want to enable push notifications?"
5.) "You might also like <clickbait title here>"15
So you build a beautiful site; you spend good time on UX, refactoring, server optimisation, getting good page load speeds, SQL all optimised - life is good.
Commercial team comes in and slaps clickbait, generic advertising, tracking scrips over the lot.
Page loads go from a second to 30 seconds and even though you made sure all those crappy ad scripts are asynchronous pages still hang most times. PingdomTools lists your page scripts as going from 40 files to over 900... now users are ringing me up giving me grief about how slow this new company website is...5
Code isn't just something that you can just learn in three months. Stop the clickbait articles plz.7
The list would be quite long.
I think Google is still making good tools, but just like Apple the integrations get all so tight and constricting... And with their data, if it goes wrong, it will go wrong hard.
I feel like YouTube is gliding into a state where cheap clickbait floats to the top and finding quality gets more difficult as well, their algorithm is more and more tuned to choose recent popular stuff over good older gems.
Microsoft is all pretend lovey dovey cuddling open source, but I'm still suspicious it's all a hug of death. I was never a big fan, but they're seriously dropping balls when it comes to windows-as-a-service, taking away so much personal control from end users even though they can't be trusted to babysit either.
Amazon is creeping it's way through the internet, charging $10/m to join the vip club infesting houses with spytubes to sell more plastic crap. Bezos' only right to keep wasting oxygen is BlueOrigin, but he'll probably fuck that up as well turning spaceflight into a decadent prime consumer orgy instead of something inspiring.
Facebook... Well, that's self explanatory. Fuck it, everything it pretends to be, and everyone who still has an account with a rusty spike.
Uber and AirBnB, with their fake ass mission of a green shared economy, but they trample over employees, customers and neighbors to build their ivory towers of progressive illusions.
Then there's a million declining brands.
I liked Skype for example when it was first released, Just like how I started out liking (and then hating) Discord, Slack, etc... They're all tools which seem fast and easy, but then they get us further away from solid protocols, get us entrenched into limiting, bloated and sometimes even dangerous tools. As my dad used to say: "Companies are like women, if you go for cheap, fast and easy you'll end up with a burning dick and half your savings gone"
You know what, fuck all tech companies.
OK, devrant is still pretty nice... For now.9
Not sure if it was the missing spaces in the title, the text lingo and bad grammar in the description, or the clickbait-style graphic but I AM SOLD.5
The only thing I love about StackOverflow is that the hot network questions are clickbait-y but when you click on them you actually get the content you wanted.11
PRO LIFE SAVING TIPS FOR DEVS (long rant, not clickbait 😝)
I have a medical condition called DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis). It clots blood in veins near lower body parts. Affected leg swells and become red and it is very painful. It happens when you very frequently sit for very long.
I used to play games, code and stuffs for hours and sometimes I used to stay at home without taking decent walk for weeks. I am only 18 and did not see it coming. But its really early stage and I might be fully recovered real soon.
This condition is not rare and happens to millions of people every year. And it can be avoided if you avoid sitting at computers for long hours and take 5 mins to walk or stretch. Even if you can avoid this condition, there are many others if you dont pay attention on your body. Please take some time to google how you can avoid anything such.
(Please don't comment sympathies, I really know you wish well for me. Instead you can throw tips what you do to relax after long hours of work).15
I'm installing Gentoo on a keyboard. Not even kidding.
.. well, clickbait aside, it's a laptop that's been turned into a keyboard on steroids, its backlight broke so I had to remove the display until I get around fixing that.. but its keyboard is so good. They don't make them like that anymore... So yeah 🙃 turning it into some kind of controller for the other desktops. Tomorrow (or rather, in half a week when the Gentoo installation is finally complete) I'll be SSH'ing into my keyboard 😛
The finish line for my Linux journey is starting to get in sight 😄4

Coworker: We you have to estimate these tasks.
Me (thinking): This task should take one day, but I'll add 4 hours in case something unexpected happens again.
* Estimates 12h
Coworker: Alright, the tasks for this sprint have been selected. Please start to work on them.
Me: * Starts working on certain task
* Sees time available for task
2d 4h (=20h)
* Writes coworker
Dude, that much time is overkill for that task!
Coworker: Yeah, the client said something similar.
Me: Then why did you estimate it that high?
Me: Ok, what am I gonna do with all that extra time? 😑
Around 4 hours in and almost done. What should I do with that extra time?
Task in question: Add a mutually exclusive field to a database table, add it to the form, test it and update the docs.
Enjoy the unrelated, clickbait cat15
I'm actually disappointed this stupid idea (kinda) worked. A regex for (badly) detecting click bait titles10
how about a fucking "funny" option you robotic cunts?
fuck these soft ass weak politically correct clickbait-like options11
// not a rant
created a Clickbait Destroyer chrome extension for facebook, It detects a bait and adds a destroy bait icon along with the like, comment and share buttons. On clicking the icon, the content from the bait site(bait content) is placed inside the comment textarea. Give a look at github: https://github.com/JSSaini07/...

Oh look an Interesting YouTube Video that is probably just clickbait... *click*
Started coding 2 hours later...
Oh come on..
"I'll show you how you COULD do it and make money on that and then pretending I did it with my app business."4
As usual a rather clickbait title, because only the chrome extensions (as always) seem to be vulnerable:
"Warning – 3 Popular VPN Services Are Leaking Your IP Address"
"Researchers found critical vulnerabilities in three popular VPN services that could leak users' real IP addresses and other sensitive data."
"VPN Mentor revealed that three popular VPN service providers—HotSpot Shield, PureVPN, and Zenmate"
"PureVPN is the same company who lied to have a 'no log' policy, but a few months ago helped the FBI with logs that lead to the arrest of a Massachusetts man in a cyberstalking case."
"Hijack all traffic (CVE-2018-7879) "
"DNS leak (CVE-2018-7878)"
"Real IP Address leak (CVE-2018-7880)"9
Today's software industry is crap!
Ok, a little clickbait tittle ;)
Today, a friend of mine sent me a great text about the laziness and complete lack of care for efficiency and simplicity in software development industry. I totally agree with the author, and encourage you guys to read it, and give it a deep thought:
When you're looking for that really peculiar problem on Google with mandatory generic words, but the results are everything except what you fucking wanted :
- <the main page of that language>
- <"how to" useless videos with no relation to what you're looking for whatsoever>
- <some more unrelated stuff>
- <outdated forbidden techniques>
- <Chinese gibberish>
- <something that looks like what you looking for, with no answers>
- "how to summon a demon (not clickbait!)"
At this point you either explore the unexplored lands (aka page 2 and beyond, or using Bing or Yahoo), or accept your fate.3
I was thinking recently about clickbait and facebooks attempt to limit it, if you were charged with implementing some form of clickbait stopper, how would you do it?
I was thinking some kind of regex match for patterns like "this [subject] just" and "you won't believe [shit goes here]".
I'd also invest heavily in companies that build robots specifically designed to kick people in the nuts, because we need more of those to solve this issue4
Finally started my side project. Everyone says I'm gonna drop it far before it's done, but I still have hope! I'm not sure if I'm blind or motivated, but I guess I'll find soon enough!
FYI, I'm a mobile dev (c#) but I'm gonna try to learn something else along the way : it's a web project!!!
I'm in the excitement phase, I'll see you in the depression phase.2
YOU wouldn't believe how ridiculously easy to make OriginalContent for devRant! 100% WORKING
TL;DR; - Clickbait for my rant about not working youtube search...
which fucked me up, so i wrote this rant for about 1,5 hours... this maybe shows how fucked up i'm
Anyways...I'm missing old rants, and i hate the "new wave" with the 9gag CTRL+C, CTRL+V...
So who else loves the 'old times devRants', can join and tell THEIR rants ;)
Has anyone else noticed that Inc.com article titles are extremely clickbaity? Seriously though!
Given that, I've built Wormbait for node, it "learns" from 1040 Inc.com titles and predicts if a title is clickbait or not. `npm install -g wormbait` and launch with 'wormbait "is this clickbait"'1
0. Go to YouTube
1. Scroll through your home page until you find the first clickbait video
2. Post video title here
Inspired by https://devrant.com/rants/1572726/...5
Just figuring out where to even start was a pretty big challenge in itself, so much misinformation out there like all those "learn to program in five minutes" clickbait videos
