Guys on CodePen are making battling Pikachus out of pure CSS and I'm just sitting here trying to get my navbar straight.

One of my first jobs as a Web Designer / Developer.

Boss had me update a WordPress site that the previous dude built. It had some pages that only members were meant to access.

These were listed on a navbar at all times. If the user clicked on them, a JS alert would show up telling the visitor to log in first.

That was the ONLY protection those pages had. No matter it was a WordPress-powered site, to begin. If you knew the URL or simply altered the code right there on the browser to remove the onclick-bound JS, you could get in.

And that was just the beginning of it. Eventually I convinced the boss to rebuild the site.

Spent 6 days, trying to get a navbar to stick in my iOS webapp while scrolling, no way to get it done.
This morning I installed iOS update 11.3, problem solved without changing a single line of CSS...

Already existing website, I was asked to do a few things to redo. Code is a mess, 0 comments, oldschool technology. Completely static html site of a small company, nothing extreme.

Client: okay, could you please add 2 more items to the navbar for the 2 new pages?
Me: yes, here they are. Since it was already full, font size had to shrink.
Client: it's okay

>> Fast forward 2 weeks, full of similarly easy modifications.

Client: could you make the font size of the navbar larger?
Me: not really, we will lose responsivity
Client: do it anyway!

>> Fast forward to next day
Client calls me that it is urgent to 'do something immediately' with the navbar because it is broken and I am a 'horrible webdesigner' for making a mess of her website. I was told that it is not her job to make it good look and that I should 'use my eyes better'.

After 2 minutes of a lecture on webdesign she let me tell her how a responsive website should look like and to achieve that we should better restart the whole website. At that point I was the idiot who just wants to get more money and that I won't be able to do that since I am already unable to finish these few tiny things she asked for.

- We need a „Save Session“ - Button in the Navbar.

- No problem

- ... and the icon should be a thumbs up!

Yeah... uuuh... Makes perfect sense... 🙃

Fucking sharepoint
I’m fuckin done, editing this website layout is like teaching a kid with ie brain, worse is I need to use a fuckin sharepoint designer 2013 and I’m working on online sharepoint so everytime I saved something it’s delayed and my screen acts like having a motherfuckin seizure when I accidentally scrolled it. Not to mention grid doesn’t work here so I need to lay it out the fuckin old way. Oh the client also wants a fancy navbar so I literally hide the sharepoint desinger navbar and using js create my own navbar inside the container. Fuck you for creating this shit and actually sell it to people, it’s like working on a fucking old tech

Thinking about this makes me pull my fucking hairs.

The fact that I have to look for the actual content in a website, among all the ads, prompts and fucking stupid design is fucking ridiculous.

Every fucking website is following this designs now. Always showing popups to subscribe to their fucking newsletter the moments you visit the site.

Can you please let me fucking read the content I require first?

"No fucking way. I will block 80% of the viewport with unnecessary stuff. I will place my ads on the left and right side. On the bottom, I will have a blocking div that will prompt you to subscribe to our newsletter. And on the top, we will have this huge fucking navbar which will take 30% of the view. Then there are this fucking cunts, that blocks the whole website the moment you enter.

"Oh, you need some information, right? Why not just subscribe to our emails first so that we can send your useless junks every now and then".

Oh my fucking batman, don't even remind me of those stupidass videos. Now 90% of the popular website will play a video immediately after you enter the website.

And guess what?! The volume will be amplified to 500% so that that's the sound you will ever hear in your lifetime.

The fucking web is becoming absolute shite right now. We really need a revolution here which makes the websites show the appropriate amount of ads and prevents them from doing all these stupids shits.

I was fixing a bug in Production and at the same time, the same client called me for the other project saying its too urgent.

I was like Oh god what now?

Guess what she wanted to change the color of Navbar.

I work as the entire I.T. department of a small business which products are web based, so naturally, I do tech support in said website directly to our clients.

It is normal that the first time a new client access our site they run into questions, but usually they never call again since it is an easy website.

There was an unlucky client which ran into unknown problems and blamed the server.
I couldn't determine the exact cause, but my assumption was a network error for a few seconds which made the site unavailable and the user tried to navigate the site through the navbar and exited the process he was doing. It goes without saying but he was very angry.

I assured him there was nothing wrong with the site, and told him that it would not be charged for this reason. Finally i told him that if he had the same problem, to let me know instead of trying to fix it himself.

The next time he used the site I received a WhatsApp message saying:
- there is something clearly wrong with the site... It has been doing this for so long!
And attached was a 10 second video which showed that he filled a form and never pressed send (my forms have small animations and text which indicates when the form is being send and error messages when an error occurs, usually not visible because the data they send is small and the whole process is quite fast)

To which I answer
- It seems that the form has not been send that's why it looks that way
- So... What an I supposed to do?
- click send
It took a while but the client replied
- ok

To this day I wonder how much time did the client stared at the form cursing the server.

Navbar is cool now, better than the older one. But can you please move this circle for creating a new rant to the right? Actually it's all over everything and really disturbs. And possibly also fade it Out when you scroll.

Is it just me or what. I had begun learning web development (but prefer C, shell scripting, Linux... ).

One thing that amazes me - besides having to learn 1356367626785576 technologies to get something done and the fact we get a fresh new amazing framework every 0.00000000000234 seconds - is CSS.

Amazing, I made a navigation bar where I wanted the items to be displayed in the horizontal position, so I
.navbar li, a {display:inline-block}

Works fine.

Next day I'm doing the same from scratch, doesn't fucking work. I look the previous design, HTML structure looks identical, I only use a different font face and colors.

After a while I randomly decided to put a <div> around the a element in order to do something else, update the page and... Voilá, text is in line.

Like... Wtf.

I'm like fuck it. No way I want to work with this shit, let's go back to shell.

I needed to print out the documentation of Vue. Their guide, unfortunately, is not printer friendly. Used tempermonkey to inject a script which removes the navbar and sidebar so that I can print it.

Been a Windows user since I was a kid in 2005. Switched to MacOS in 2018 due to the nature of my job. Today I went back to use my brother's Windows machine to play some games 😎

Damn! The recent updates made Windows look so good and snappy. The dark mode looks well and the navbar on the Windows App Store is translucent.

So I was working on a website for a club in my college. I designed a pretty decent UI and at first everyone accepted it. So I made a working website with my friend, made backend with node and all was set.

After that, the fucking member of club brought in another graphic designer for changes. And they literally made the whole website with heavy images. The designer made heavy neon backgrounds in Adobe Illustrator and didn't even compressed it.

They made the whole fucking website with images and they ran it all on localhost and were happy with the speeds! ಠ_ಠ

They even put an image in fucking Navbar!

And then I left that project, I could not see more destruction.

At the company I work they just updated confluence to a version with new UI. The new blue tone for the navbar is just FUCKING UGLY!
Don‘t seem to be able to change the theme of it anymore either...

Seriously though... Dreamweaver CC needs to revamp the way they implement bootstrap snippets. Specifically the navbar hover and click on <ul> dropdown menus.

I work in a company and they asked me to develop the official website, jointly a colleague. The boss gave us an horrible background, he says that he likes it. My collegaus designed a hideous navbar, so I drew a new navbar (still horrible but better) and I sent it to him. He said that his one is perfect and we don't have enough time to implement the mine. And in all this I'm (maybe) a webmaster, not a graphic designer. In the attached pic, my navbar is the below one

A client wanted his site to be finished earlier. The boss said ok if the client would pay more, and he did. However, a FE dev got sick (virus infection he said) and would have to rest for an extended period of time. The PM came in yesterday and said, "Alex (me), we are running out of time so you will have to take (FE dev's name)'s position because you said that you learned basic html/css when you were in high school." The PM left and close the door before I can turn my head away from the screen and say something (I was like WTF?). One of my BE colleague, who had been asked to do similar sh**t before when a FE guy got sick, pat on my shoulder and said, "Alex, you have won the lottery this time." Q.A.Q..I have just finished a navbar with 4 tabs using Uikit, it took me 90 min already.

Sticky navigation bars on blogs are the worst.

In a review meeting with a client, someone asks the PM to Google something while she's presenting. Her steps:
1. Go to the company intranet home page
2. Click on "useful links" in the navbar
3. Click on "Yahoo" on the list
4. Type "Google" in the Yahoo search
5. Search for the term.

This is supposed to be a "Technical Project Manager"

So I love my pixel 2 xl, best phone I've had (not saying that just because it's the newest btw)

But fuck me do I hate how it dictates what wallpaper needs a light and dark theme, plus when you have a dark theme on, why does the navbar stay white in applications but the notification pane change... I love google but come on -,-

Changed their dashboard layout !! Yes, let's move the top navbar to the left and change the whole layout. Oh yeah, and let's make the page less responsive than before.

I seriously don't understand why Stripe had to do this. Their dashboard layout was completely fine and useful but noooo lets change the navbar from the top to the left.

In my company theres usually some internship kid from a college, and usually the supervisor didnt supervise their task, and often times i meet some shit caused by the internship kid, which im guessing is using chatgpt without understanding what the fuck they are writing.

one example is, they are persistently using their own css and js for simple things like navbar and dropdowns, this causes the already existing dropdowns and other components to break (using bootstrap etc.) fucking interns, supervise your fucking intern, otherwise they just gonna come up with "cool" shit, fucking dick

I’m too dumb to learn frontend frameworks.
I’m a backend developer, not the greatest but I get the work done. I can understand different programming languages even if I don’t write in them, you just understand basic principles and know what’s going on.
I can do some work in HTML, CSS and some JS.
But what the hell is with those popular frontend frameworks. I thought I pretty much understand how it works, so started doing some crap on my own, some pretty responsive navbar with dropdowns to start. Nevermind a million of npm packages to just start working and some weird errors in website source (“JavaScript is not enabled”, I spent few hours trying to fix it, but it’s just there, everything is working fine even with this message there). I have pretty navbar, nice, time to add dropdown.
Nope, not working. Maybe classic css solution?
Nope.
Ok, time to Google. What do I find? A million of npm dependencies that provide dropdowns, for some you need to pay, wtf.
But I want to write one on my own.
Found few tutorials that wasn’t even remotely helpful, it’s like with the online recipes, “when I was growing up on the farm…” and then something that it’s not working.
Finally found some nice looking tutorial, was following that and then.. it ended. It was maybe half of the solution, dude forgot about some components and just left.

Our lead frontend dev insists on using <select> as a dropdown for a language switcher in the navbar of a website and then make the page redirect to the localized url using the onChange event with JS.

Am I wrong thinking that's just really, really dumb, or am I just dumb?

I found the weirdest UI bug.

I have a side nav bar, that opens on button click. The way it is implemented: a navbar, that is positioned a lot to the left (120% of it's width). On click, it transitions to 0%.

When I zoom in very close without the sidebar opened on an image, some text from the sidebar is visible.

Pretty weird..

Apparently Android Pay released for Canadians some time ago, because it's on the front page of the google play store. I really want to use it cause remembering to carry a card around is tough work, but I'm failing the safetynet check.

My only choice, it seems is to revert to a system where I don't have root. I was thinking of installing lineageos, but I'd be giving up some pretty serious things that I've gotten into with Resurrection Remix.

The fling navbar would be gone, I'd probably be able to deal with that but I just find it a way nicer experience than the traditional android navbar.

I might not be able to use Google Assistant, not sure if Lineage has it

And (worst of all), if I revert to a system without root, I won't be able to use my system-wide dark mode from substratum (I'd also be losing battery optimizing features from greenify, which is just another downside)

Existing Android Pay users, is this worth it?

This might be a silly question, but why (and why not) would one implement a dynamic navigation bar to a web app (.net core razor pages)?

What are the pros / cons of using a dynamic navbar over pure HTML? All I can think of is to render the navbar based on specific settings per client or to show / hide certain options based on roles / authorization.

I'm just furious right now!!!

So I'm on this project where we have to make a whole *very old* website look like it's brand new.

Thing is, the whole point of the project is to make exactly the same pages as on the existing website smh. No UX or UI suggestions.
Just put the navbar in a component that looks like a tab bar, who cares anyway!?

Btw, I'm in charge of the UI.

My colleagues and I (mostly my colleagues) made a react components library and we use it for this project.
Fucking inputs get thrown into tables and all that, but hey, that's what the client asked for.

So here I am with my shiny new page, and I just hand it over to the front-end dev who just arrived.
She's supposed to feed in the data.
I don't give a fuck you use flow or redux or whatever fancy tooling.
Just call your back-end, get the data, format it and feed my damn table with it. That's it.

So today, after 5 weeks she's in, she calls a meeting where she's screening a presentation to the team complaining about how long it took her to understand what I did and change it completely.
Pieces of code on screen, saying it's crap and it shouldn't be like that.

I'm not responsible for inputs in fucking table, the client is!
Of course I have nested components with data passed through all the way: it's a series of fucking radio buttons within a table within a form!

During 5 weeks, yoy didn't even come to me once saying it's not what you expected or you're having trouble with my work!
And there we blaming my job like I'm the bad guy?!

Tonight, everyone's going home thinking I'm no good at what I do and completely lost, all because of her.

If you got this far, I'd like to hear from you on how I should act with her and how to tell her what she did is awfully wrong?
