Got a phone interview for a backend dev job in an opsec company.
Interviewer:
This is a very serious and prestigious position, we take care of the most important bits of code.
*Proceeds to talk introductory nonsense*
Interviewer:
Do you know what a DNS is?
Me:
Yes, of course! DNS stands for Domain Name System.... Blah blah blah... I explain about the servers, about hosts file, about DNS spoofing and everything else possible on this topic.
Interviewer:
See, I was patient with you - letting you finish. I'm not sure what you're talking about and where you got it from, but a DNS is that line in the browser where you type the site's name.
He didn't ask any more questions, just told me that they'll get back to me. I asked not to do that.
Three weeks later I got an email claiming that I'm not qualified.44 -
Interview went well until i asked my questions about them.
"Are pet-projects a thing in your company"
... no.
"Can i attend programming gigs in a workweek, and are they paid by the company"
... no, no
"Any restrictions on the IDE"
... yes we only allow visual studio
"Wait, frontend web development in vs?"
... yes
"Do you develop in other languages then JavaScript"
... only Java
I calmly stood up, told them "I dont think that the company and I are a good fit. Thanks for your time."22 -

Interviewer looks at my resume, asks me questions about the projects that I had done at that time.
Tells me he hadn't done this much when he was of my age.

(context: I'm from Germany)
The interview was going well, their developer and I had good talks about their stack and projects, I thought I was making a good impression.
Then the HR guy had some Qs. He went through my CV, wanted to know why I left company X and what I did at company Y. He seemed quite impressed with the work experience I already had (the job I was applying for was an entry level position).
For education I had an entry at a university. "courses in computer science". He asked:
"And you finished the Bachelor's degree, right?"
Me, "well, no. I stopped after about 2 semesters. I'm a self-taught developer, all my skills..."
HR guy interrupts
"So, no bachelor's degree?"
"No, but I figured out that I am a much better learner outside of university and that I don't want to go into research."
"Thank you for coming in, we'll get back to you soon."
...
As a conclusion: I learned that german companies are still very traditional and search for employees with degrees. They don't understand how you'd know stuff if you don't have a degree.
Good thing: we also have international companies, which are happy to welcome enthusiastic and self-taught developers.24 -
You are good in programming and data structures.
But we won't select you because you couldn't solve the puzzle. 😑11 -

Went blank when interviewer asked me do I know KITT. I knew that he didn't mean Knight Rider, but I could not think of anything sensible in the few seconds I had time to answer the question so I answered NO. Interviewer said that it is a basic requirement for the job and it seemed that I lacked the basic skill needed for the job.
Needless to say I didn't get the job. Later that day as I was telling my friends about the interview they seemed really confused....
"... but you know GIT very well. You use it on a daily basis. Why did you answer NO ?"

First ever job interview (in my field) went well and I got the job two days later! (my current one).

I had an interview with facebook, asked me to write something that sorts points on a parabola. Wrote it in java, tested output every step of the way with the interviewer watching.
Said they didn't like that I wrote pseudocode. You know, the kind that compiles and takes in dynamic input and prints the answer correctly to the console.6 -
1. Submit my resume, get an email asking to schedule an interview
2. Schedule the interview
3. One day before the scheduled time, I get an email saying that the interview is being rescheduled to another time two days later (no explanation for why they did this)
4. I clear out my schedule and wait for the interview call (it’s suppose to be at 2:30, but I wait like 15 minutes early because I don’t want to miss it)
5. I don’t get a call
6. At 3:00, I call the company and ask whats going on. They apologize and say my interviewer will call me back as soon as he gets back from lunch.
7. He doesn’t call.
8. At 4:00 I call them back. Apparently the guy who was suppose to interview me went home. I ask them wtf they are doing and if this is how they treat their employees. They said they would reschedule the interview and call me back once they did.
9. No one calls.
10. I wait a week, call them back, and am told that the funding for my position didn’t come through (what does that mean? You’re not hiring programmers to design the software for your billion dollar war machines anymore? Seriously?).
I’ve had it with this company. I don’t know if it was just this incompetent recruiting group or if this is a company full of scumbags, but I mean, really?1 -
Went to the interview.
Filled a hell lot of forms.
Even brought some projects of mine in a usb stick.
Only to discover they need a minimum of bachelor's degree.
People, please when you need something, SAY IT IN THE DAMN AD.3 -
The worst rejection in my case is being qualified for the jobs I get offers for, but not being able to work full time 'cuz college'

My first IT interview, for a 1st Line Support job. I took 2 trains there and fully intended to make that journey every day until I could afford a car.
First interview question: "I've checked the train times from where you live, we have shift patterns which start at 7:30 but the earliest you can get here is 7:50, how would you get here on those early shifts?"
You bitch, you knew I wasn't going to get the fucking job and you still made me travel all the fucking way here.
I answered everything else fine but of course wasn't successful. They didn't even have the decency to let me know afterwards.3 -
Asked to do a technical interview task. It has expected input and output.
My code does what it needs to and produces the desired result.
Get rejected and no feedback given when asked.
Juniors won't get better if you don't communicate my dude 😒2 -
Dead 💀 developer.
My first interview,
Back then was technical graduated local CompSchool. Call for a job newspaper, by phone ☎️ the Supervisor assign a date for interview.
In the office the developer guy was amaze because he will hire any from CompSchool he also was student and all stuff made was on the premised of he learned and worked on the company.
About half and hour talks, he write my name on a post-it and put on HR desk.
“Come back tomorrow morning .. tell me you got the job !”
Do so, entering the office next day, was a sad people talking.. the Developer is 💀 dead (drugged on a party).
So this guy “my name in the post-it” is our salvation for all the database, passwords, accounting, etc. and spell my name.
What tha... got the job, the money 💴, was 18 years old, with excessive income (dead guy salarie).
Worked 3 1/2 years for the company.
Thank you 💀 for the opportunity.9 -
Drove 1.5 hrs for a interview at a company which was developing mgmt software for fire departments. They were very pleased with me, as i am with a volunteer FD and a perfect fit in their opinion. I declined after i found out they code base is mostly VB6 and they considered source control unnecessary.

I apply for an internship.
I get an interview.
I pass the interview and get the internship.
I do great in the internship. Get an exceeds expectations.
I apply for conversion.
I ace the two interviews.
I am told that the hiring committee gave me a yes.
I enter host matching (ie to find a team to join).
...
And that's it. I never get matched (I only met 1 team that had UI focus and I had previously asked to not be put on a UI team so the TL rejected me). 1 year later I'm told sorry the offer is no longer valid.
The annoying bit is that I decided not to apply to grad school and refused all other offers under the assumption that it was a guaranteed spot.1 -
Had a job interview back where I want to move(2300 miles away), doing exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately it was for a senior developer, a bit over my pay grade.
First Interview: "It is above your skill level, but I like you. We will make it fit you."
Second Interview(technical): " You did super well! I will make sure to pass the good news onto the boss! I am excited to work with you soon!"
Response to my thank you email: "We decided to not persue you further for this position. We are going with someone who has more experience."

For my very first job interview, I joined a rather well known company (somewhere in the mid-ranges) as an intern-frontend developer. Everything was going okay-ish. I was asked some technical questions and I answered them to the best of my knowledge, and it was all good until he came to the javascript questions.
Interviewer: So, have you worked with any frontend frameworks?
Me: Yeah, I usually work with vanilla JS, but I've gotten into frameworks like Backbone and Ember.
Interviewer: I've never heard of those. Do you know AngularJS?
Me: I've dabbled aroudn with it, although I haven't gotten into it much. If you want me to use AngularJS, I can pick it up and get the ropes of it pretty quick.
Interviewer: So tell me.. what is AngularJS?
Me: It's a Javascript framework released by Google (explains what it is and how it differs from most popular JS frameworks, explains the components of Angular.. etc)
Interviewer: Well, you're wrong. It's an enhanced html for web-apps. ( or some bullshit he quoted off the front-page of the then angularjs.org homepage )4 -

Development plus laboratories is kind of my expertise, so I ended up in a little grimey HR office looking out over the factory floor of a cocoa processing facility. I was applying for an automation job, a temp thing for three weeks, updating some ugly scripts which took readings from machines and threw them into excel sheets.
"We don't think a developer like you has enough experience working in an environment like this. Safety and working in sterile conditions is very important to us"
I had sent them my certifications in advance, plus references to the work I did in a biosafety level 3 lab for JnJ and cleanroom work at an aerospace company.
There were fat sweaty guys on sneakers, taking cocoa paste samples right next to the window.
They ended up hiring a friend of mine with zero experience, for minimum wage.
Just be fucking honest, don't waste my time with courtesies and lies. If they had just told me about the low salary indication, I would still have done the work. I was in between jobs anyway, bored, trying to fill up some spare time.4 -
So I landed this interview with a company that provided military simulations, to work as an android intern (mobile). And man was I intent on getting it, I could only dream of my first job being as a dev, for a company that developed cool software. 😯
I show up, pull out my laptop, go over some of my projects (crap at the time, since I was 16, but ChessAI ftw) and also show them an android app I developed.
Then, I pulled out my calculator and showed them a clock I'd made on it. That's probably when I lost them... ☹️
They asked me a couple questions about software development, like if I knew what agile was, or if I unit tested my code (didn't even know they existed at the time ☹️ ) , etc.
I had done research on the company and asked them questions about specific software and so on, also asked about what working there would look like, etc.
They never called.
I called.
They never answered.
😭
Ended up washing dishes. Honestly, fuck my life.5 -

interviewer : Are you sure? because this is a developer position and women prefer something more administrative than coding.
me : Wow! nobody told me that before. If I had known I wouldn't have studied this.

I got a callback for mobile app development, I told them I had only worked in Android. When I got to the actual interview, "ok, your Resume and all is fine and all, but we are actually looking for an iOS developer" I stood up and walked out. I mean what in the name of holy fucking hell were you thinking you miserable son of a bitch.3

A company called me for a job interview for my internship. As they saw my LinkedIn, they said I had a great skill set built up as I was studying Software Engineering and working aside as a freelancer.
After a short talk they mentioned my international business management (IBMS) minor that I have taken and criticized me that I took a wrong path of my career, told me to rethink my position of my studies and said they will not take me into consideration for the position.
That left me puzzled. Like what was the reason of that call, just to criticize my decisions?

Sent my application and got the first interview. However there were 2 months between when I sent the application and got the first of 2 interviews. In that time I had booked and paid for 3 weeks of vacation.
I went for the interviews, and told about my vacation, which meant I could not start immediately as I wrote in the application. My soon to be boss said that should not be a problem - great.
Next day I got an email saying that they went with another candidate.
I called the now x-boss an asked what had happened. He told I submitted my application twice, and that was the reason I did not get the job.
True. I did sent my application twice, but only because I made a mistake when typing in my email the first time.
Apparently that was a huge mistake.1 -
It was my first time in Berlin. I came as a tourist but started looking for a workplace, with hopes of getting a blue card and continuing work.
I searched online, going through some hiring platforms, and sent out a few messages around. I felt a special connection (I thought I was exactly who they needed), and wrote them a carefully crafted letter of intention alongside my lavish CV.
They got back to me, and I was given this task, to do while at home. I completed it, had a phone interview, and was invited on-site for a face to face interview. Everybody felt warm, I felt a connection. We already talked salary expectations, and all was going great.
They told me they'd get back to me for the next stage. ...
and they actually DID. Yes, they did!
They invited me for a second interview, but this time to prepare a technical topic to present. So I did. I picked one of the 3 topics they offered, which was about performance optimization. I had recently read materials about that, so I felt really empowered.
So far nobody told me what I was supposed to be doing at the new job, I only knew the technologies required, and what the company did for money.
I prepared a thorough presentation, with practical demos of why some things are bad for performance. While I was showing it, many people in the room were learning about this for the first time, which means I did good. The team lead had some extra questions that I wasn't able to answer in full (needed some research), but otherwise it was great.
The CTO then asked me out to lunch, to talk over some more stuff, and we had a general discussion about what drives us, our life story, etc. He said that he'd really like me to be part of the team, and that he's looking forward to working with me.
So I've been at it for almost a month. I've met everyone, got acquainted with the team, knew the biography of some of them, proven my worth, etc. I was ensured with body language, and verbal language that everything was going great. As careful as I was with this kind of stuff, I was positive that I'd get the job. I even started planning my trips, to get the documents ready.
And then I got a message stating the usual stuff "Thank you bla bla bla we don't think we'll need your services". I was shocked, but in good faith I wanted to reply something along the lines "I'm sorry it didn't work out, all the best in finding what you're looking for", but I found out that I was blocked from contacting them.
That's right. Rejected + blocked. After a month of fucking foreplay. I get rejection, even though it hurts. But being blocked?! That's just insane!8 -

I've got one. It was for a pretty good e-commerce company.
*It was 4th and final round*
Interview panel: If you were to implement the bidding kind of feature in our website/app like eBay has, how would you do it? Explain both HLD and LLD
Me: *Started selling my shit*
Panel: Did you ever bid for something on eBay?
Me: No
Panel: I'll get in touch with you. You can leave now.

Last week, a company(start-up) came for campus recruitment.
This company was known for its long working hours, giving unrealistic deadlines to the employees, less recreational activities, etc.
Even though the pay was very good, some of them were there just to experience the interview process. All those waiting for the HR round, were half-hearted into the process.
This particular guy(a friend of mine) was so determined to be rejected from the company, that he intentionally screwed up his interview (final round).
Towards the end of the interview, the HR asked him to draw a map/path from his hostel to the building in which the interview was being taken.
Once my friend finished making the figure, the interviewer said “Take this same path, and get back to your hostel”.
SAVAGE!
Even though he was successful in getting rejected, the way he got rejected really crushed his ego.2 -

I get rejected just for my beard, they don't like it.. and they're so idiot so they have prejudgments that any man with beard could be linked to terrorism. They literally said that I was the best fit to the post..

Solved a complex puzzle on a website for a local ecommerce business, mind you in 16 and not really looking for a job but an unpaid internship would look beautiful on a resume or university application.
They wanted to see some of my code and give me a tour and none of them despite them being PHP developers for Magento could wrap their heads around laravel or how the routing worked. They also didn't understand and raw PHP whatsoever. I lost all faith and walked out of their office when they asked why I was using prepared statements and how they worked. That was after finding out that they don't understand cloud scalability whatsoever or common security practices.4 -
It happened during my campus placement.
My friend was working in the company and he too had come for the interviews. So when I walked into the interview room and saw him, we both acknowledged that we knew each other so the coordinator had my panel changed. The interview went well enough and the interviewer liked me. However when the results were announced my name wasn't there. I was really depressed. Just thought I could never get a job and all that.
Then my friend calls me a week later and tells me because of the mix up during changing the panel, even though i had cleared the round, was not in the final list.
This really was one of the worst moments.
I must come clean as my friend was able to get me another interview and obviously this time I had to blow it. I literally just went blank. I got my first question wrong and after that it just went down hill.
Now that I think about it I'm not sure which interview would be my worst interview story :p -
This wasn't an interview, but a massive rejection which I've never forgotten...
I was working beneath a director from hell. South African, very intimidating. If I was not able to dictate my work, he would give me an expression like I had just kicked his dog.
I think at the time, I had threatened the development manager when I had challenged the way we were running database queries and linked processes.
The director had pulled me into his office one day and said to me, literally, "not everyone can do what they want to do, if they are not good at it". Like seriously, what the fuck... I was doing a lot more than others even more senior to me, and I had just come on board learning the language on the fly (4th Dimension, don't ask...).
I digress... My heart just completely sank and I was left speechless. Two jobs later and I could give him the big finger.
These days in a development management position for a massive Australian company, so I know we all go through a lot of shit, keeps you humble.1 -
I will give you a reverse rejection. Went to two interviews on site with company. They asked me a question, and I struggled. Solved the question one hour after the interview :) asked me to come for a second hands on interview, make some changes to sample code. Did that reasonably well. I rejected them because in both times the engineers we're sitting behind their laptops and were working. 0 interest or engagement on their side about the candidate.
That startup failed some years after.1 -
Got a phone interview for a web dev internship while in school. I only took a very intro web design/dev course, and wasn't sure if I wanted to pursue that career. It went well in the beginning though I was getting more and more nervous. Then they asked what I learned in that class. I suddenly remembered something and rambled how the teacher talked about how outdated and not mobile-friendly tables are, and we should never use it in layout. There was a few seconds of silence and someone spoke out "well table is still very useful and we use it a lot in our website".
I didn't get the internship :-) -
Most embarrassing interview rejection was not even in person, it was over the phone.
The company that I was going to work for (quite a big one mind you), scheduled to phone me at 2PM, I was preparing mentally for 2PM, so I took my girlfriend to lunch at 1. Just to relax and calm myself before the phoned me.
It was 34 degrees (celcius - I think that's about 93 farenheit? somewhere close) outside and I was waiting for her to finish her smoke (she was in the smoking area).
They phoned me, and it caught me completely off-guard. My years of knowledge just seemed to flush down the toilet at that moment, and I utterly felt stupid talking to the guy over the phone. It was a first for me, and I hope that it never happens again - he basically stopped me, told me that I had better not apply before I know what I am talking about (as I was wasting his time), and then put down the phone on me..
Worst part was that my girlfriend came back right then and asked me if I am ready for the interview. I hung my head in shame because I was ashamed to tell her that I fucked it up, because you know, I kind of needed the job (the one I had at the stage was shitty).1 -
I was junior developer. My friend recommended me for JavaScript Senior developer in the company he was working. He had settle the interview without asking me. I knew a little of javascript, but I was not ready for this interview at all and I knew that.
So I went to the interview. The questions were very difficult and complex for me, I answered two question of ~15. I was very upset, I was sweаty and blushed ... one of the most uncomfortable moments in my career.
After the questions, the interviewer decided to give me a MacBook to do an exercise with JavaScript to see me in action. The exercise was easy, but MacBook ... Damn it, I saw a MacBook for the second time in my life. I knew the solution of the task, but I was very slow in implementation because of Mac..
After 15 minutes of slow coding and sweating, the interviewer said "OK, just finish it at home and send the code to my email...".
When I got home, I made the perfect solution for 30 minutes and I sent it to him. The only answer was "ok, tnx" and that guy didn't call me anymore.
This is kind of rejection I think ;)3 -
After two interviews at same company,.. I'll just cut to the email and my response to them..
Company X: "...blah blah blaaah, sorry but unfortunately, we decided to move forward with a candidate that we see fit for this role. Thank you for your interest and interviewing at X company."
My reply: "....don't be sorry. Fortunately, I have already accepted an offer where I see my skills fit at an even higher level at a company."
I was lying. I didn't have an offer yet. Just had to let them feel a little regret. 😂😁1 -
I use to have a comic online. It wasn't popular or profitable, but I loved every minute of working on it, so it remains my favorite project of all time.
I know that barely qualifies as a 'dev' project, but... it's what was in my heart so shut up THERE'S SOMETHING IN MY EYE3 -

A: for nearly 2 years, I mainly code in python.
Q: Nice! (Puts a piece of paper infront) explain how the shortest distance between 2 cities is calculated by Google maps using graph theory..
I go blank and stay silent for an awfully long amount of time. Gets rejected.
After coming outside, I ask myself... Why the fuck does a normal tech company need written algorithms on graph theory used by Google maps?7 -
I had someone reject me the follow me to the parking lot and ask me to teach them Jira in their spare time. 😂😂😂2

Always getting prewrote replys. When you call them, they say they found someone better.
If you ask in which area the other guy excel's you, they hang up...
I was 1 year jobless and endured this shitty replys. Now I got a job, which a lot of people would like to have 😄2 -
1) Submitted my CV
2) Got an email to schedule a phone interview for the next week, I gave ~5 appiointments on the next week that were good for me
3) Next week passed, no answer to my E-mail, I asked in a mail, what happend
4) Got reply, that we should schedule the phone interview for the next week
5) We aggreed, in the appointment, they did not call me
6) I asked in a mail, what has happened
7) We aggreed in a new appointment
8) This time they called me, after a short conversation I was told, that I they send me task as homework right after the phone call and I will have to do it in one week
9) They did not send it
10) Next day I asked, whats going on
11) They sent me the task, and said that I can ask them, if have queations
12) For me it was not clear, if I was allowed to use frameworks for the task, so I asked it
13) I neveg got reply and did not ping for the 4th time
This was the most annoying and ridiculous recruiting process I had to deal with. It was just a waste of time.1 -
Everything went fine, but then the last day when I was about to sign the documents:
"sorry, we have just this morning merged together with another company and all employments has been frozen" -
Heard a job position opened through a friend. Passed him my CV since we don't know his email (lol how?)
Got called for an interview + technical test. Came and they were expecting my CV. They somehow misplaced my CV (lol again how?)
Told the interviewers that I made a couple of apps for fun and informative. Tested me by doing a value switch between 2 variables without introducing a third variable. Done and dusted.
A month later, the company that interviewed me disappeared.
That's my definition of the worst interview rejection. Company pulled a Houdini without telling all of their candidates that we're rejected.14 -

Finally got through a second interview with a company that won't abuse me(working late nights, early mornings, and weekends for months now) on Thursday! They even said I did a good job and they like me! Most intense waiting of my life for a call back!2

A job that I wanted so bad, I had went to 3 interviews in one day, plus one phone interview before this. AFTER this, I went to yet another interview. 2 weeks later I get a phone call letting me know ow that they chose the other candidate because that person apparently had more passion for programming than me.

The worst rejection was one after a first interview and a subsequent 3 hour code challenge. I was super nervous as it was my first code challenge in an interview that was one of my first. I wasn't confident when I submitted my work, but the time was up and so there wasn't much to be done.
The rejection was simple. Pure silence. No arguments, or feedback. Just didn't hear nothing back and that didn't help my fresh out of university self-confidence.1 -
Got my first technical job with no interview. Well, let me explain.
A recruiting firm contacted about my resume that it was impressive. *I didn't have any corporate experience in there. Just school projects, personal projects and internship.
I had a quick phone interview with them and also asked me for an in person interview that same week on Wednesday. After that interview, the guy asked if I could come back for some paperwork because they have found a job for me to start the next Monday. This was exciting.
Monday at the new job, I dressed up in fitted suit and all thinking the company will also interview me. I walked in and the director was like, "welcome, you know you don't have to dress up for this job right? Feel free!" They took me to me workstation with an already clean set up.
I was confused and my stupidity asked: "what time is the interview?". The immediate supervisor I was going to be working with replied, "no need for that. We got you because of your skills. That's all we need so we both went water each other's time".
Long story short, I worked with them for almost a year but due to financial issues they couldn't extend my contract. However, the director got me a new permanent job at one of his friends office and says he will hire me back in a heartbeat if things go well at his place.
I kind of feel bad leaving the recruiter because he was one of those who actually cared and willing to help entry level.4 -
Worst interview rejection.
I was just out of college and making the interview rounds set up through my college's job placement.
I wish I still had the letter (I would have attached a screenshot), which
started out nice enough with the usual 'It was a pleasure meeting you and thank you for your interest in the position..' blah blah blah.
Ending with "You will never be considered for a developer position here at MFA Oil."
I was like "What the hell happened?!" I thought the interview went great..I had no experience and she made it clear they were looking for experienced developers, but no weird questions+answers, nothing. If anything, I had to be the most vanilla of the 10+ other college-grad devs waiting in the waiting room. Interview was maybe 10 minutes with the standard script of questions like 'Where do you want to be in 5 years?' which we all knew and rehearsed.
My only guess was they had me confused with someone else. -
@lazyDev reminded me of the time my bid for a project was rejected because I'm a white man. Never mind the fact that I have built my career around data management, visualisation and modelling and the only other competing bid was from someone who had experience in mobile development and little else. I checked up on the company and the project just now, and they've posted the project up again. I've made a bid just like I did before, only this time I've tripled my price. Let's see if they change their minds.3

Several years ago, I interviewed for a popular site and it was the only one of the many interviews I did that suffer that did Google-style whiteboard problems and nobody peppered me. I didn't recall the optional way to reverse a linked list right there and then. I think I came up with the right solution and failed to communicate it well.
When we got done, I could feel their eyes trying to burn holes in me for wasting their time.2 -
Was approached by a recruiter for a job in software development which could be filled by any less-experienced front-end developer in the recruiter's eyes, as long as you had basic Javascript knowledge. Turned out it was for router software/images mostly based on javascript.
They kept asking me proprietary information, which I couldn't know, yet, as I didn't work for them.

Talked to a company at my schools career fair and got an interview the next day for a summer internship position. The interview went well and they said they would get back to me within a week. I don't hear from them so assume they weren't interested. A full year later I get a rejection email saying that we would not be continuing the recruiting process2

I wouldn't call any rejection worst.
I learnt new things everytime I had interview actually they came to me like steps of learning and when I get to know enough I got my first job :) -
We're quite keen on you so we'll definitely call you...
That call never came so I made a follow up and I got a considering the current size of the company we not quite ready to have another dev -
Sat for a company X, aced 2 out of 3 rounds, final round, I come to know that the company deals with Hardware and I was poaching them about my software skills.
Buh bye. We need only Hardware interested personnel.
Just before I was about to go full pro stud, by rejecting the offer, they slammed the door on me pretty soon. -
My first job interview was kinda harsh. So I went to an interview in my 5th semester of bachelor degree, everything was going well untill they asked me if I wanted to continue my studies as a master student.As soon as I said yes, they were like "yeah ok we'll be in touch" and of course they didn't!2

Did a project in my first year of "vocational education"
(in the Netherlands there's different levels of studies)
For some big Corp.
They were amazed by what I had made (really just a simple website) and offered me an internship on the spot. Then they asked when I was finishing my bachelor's (hint: vocational education is one level below) and when I told them I was a first year student of that vocational education they basically told me they aren't allowed to hire anyone that doesn't have or isn't pursuing a bachelor or master degree...
That felt really bad, getting an actual offer based on my skills but be rejected for my level of education.
But it has made me want to prove them I can do it, and so, I am now in my first year of computer engineering.1 -
A couple of years ago, I was invited for an interview after applying for a part time job as a C/C++/Assembly developer with customer contact to earn a bit of money while studying at university.
Throughout the whole interview they didn't ask me a single question related to the work I was expecting to do. Just a couple of questions about my team skills, how I would react in certain difficult situations and how my studies were going. Nevertheless they seemed pretty pleased with me and asked when I could start.
I was somewhat irritated by that, especially because I was still a beginner in some areas and made that quite explicit in my application. I asked what kind of projects I would be working on and what skill level was expected of me.
"It's pretty straightforward. Just pick up the phone and go through the checklists we'll provide. You'll pick it up quickly."
Wait what?!
Turns out they didn't have an opening for a programmer. They were looking for somebody for a first level phone support minimum wage job and simply used an old ad for a programmer's position "to attract more technically minded people".
I rejected respectfully...
What the actual fuck? Who even does something like that?1 -
I was looking for an "alternation" (dunno if this is the right word): you go to work for 75% of the time, and you go to school the 25% left. Like this, you have tons of experience when you grab your diploma, and you can find a job way easier.
So i was in interview in a cool company, close from everything, that only* required to know the basics about Apache, Ruby and Python. The interview goes well, and the dude asks for a finish "you have your driver license right?" "Eeeer. No. I don't really need it, I mean the transports are everywhere in this city soo..."
Let's say I never heard of the dude ever again.

My new goal is to get a great af job but still appear as open and looking online so it'll be turn to fuck with recruiters and waste their time3

Technically not an interview but a conclusion to my internship.
So I was waiting for an answer if I was about to get a proposition or not after my internship. I was waiting the whole internship.
The answer was "No, but come back when you got more experience."

Not a dev job, but was once called about a month after I applied for a job and was told they put me at the top of their pile of applications and never heard from them again
