*Facebook Hackers follow the Rules*
TL;DR: sorry, not available, can't do spoilers
One night I was with a group of friends out at a pub. A guy and his girlfriend show up, I didn't know them but they were my friend's friends.
The girl kept bragging the whole time about his boyfriend being a professional programmer, trying to remind it to everybody whenever possible (don't ask me why!).
So, after a while, the discussion moves towards "suspect Facebook activities" and the guy starts saying that he can hack Facebook.
- "What do you mean?", I ask.
- "Hacking into other people's accounts, even with 2 factor authentication. I did it a lot of times"
- "Wait, and they don't notice?"
- "Of course not! ^_^ He's a hacker", the girl replies.
Ok, time to do a coming out.
- "Hey, I'm a developer myself. Can you give me an idea of what you did in technical terms? Did you find a vulnerability? Used a virus? Maybe a keylogger?"
- "No... Uh... Well... The secret is to read the terms of service"
- "Yes... yes it's all in the facebook terms of service..."
- "Uhm, I'm not really sure I'm following. Could you prove it by hacking my Facebook account? I'm giving you the permission".
In less than a minute the discussion flew completely away and they never mentioned computers again.
Guys, I've been thinking.
Instead of 'I do', it'll be 'I agree'.
Should also probably make him sign an NDA incase things go south.
Also, probably a code of bathroom conduct. (I just remembered that football while peeing rant)35
Okay i'm done - YOU FUCKING ANDROID STUDIO MORONS. Being at a high level in C++, I tried to do some android coding. THERE ARE FUCKING NO GOOD TUTORIALS, NO GOOD DOCS, HECK, THE SELF GENERATED CODE OF THE IDE IS WRONG: WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON YOU FUCKING MORONS?
oh wait, let me first import android.widgets.rant;
or was it android.widgets.devrant.rant; or was it android.dr.rant.RantManager;?
Oh wait, I know lets search the docs?
OH WAIT THE DOCUMENTATION DOESNT HAVE THAT.
NOW HOW ABOUT I JUST TRY THE EXAMPLE CODE? WELL UH-UH! YOU HAVE TO FIND OUT YOURSELF WHAT TO IMPORT IN ORDER FOR IT TO WORK. ALSO, WHAT FUCKING UP WITH THAT PERMISSION SYSTEM? ITS SO BADLY DOCUMENTED!!!
Oh wait, I'm sure that I have to change something in this file... or was it that other file?
how dare they have style and design guidelines?
I will resort to implement my app idea in godot, idc anymore... I don't want to burn out because I used the "official high standard" tech.
it definitely isn't high standard and definitely not good. Thank you morons@google
THANK YOU FOR NOTHING
A FRAMEWORK WHERE I NEED 2 DAYS TO FIGURE OUT TO ADD EVENT LISTENERS TO MY THINGS IS DEFINITELY NOT ONE I'D LIKE TO USE.
also, whats up with
AudioRecord (int audioSource, int samplerateInHz, int channelConfig, int audioFormat, int bufferSizeInBytes);
ARE WE BACK IN THE C ERA? CAN'T YOU BE BOTHERED TO IMPLEMENT SOME SIMPLE FUCKING ENUMS????
WHATS THE POINT OF AN OOP LANGUAGE IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE IT LIKE C?
Oh wait I found a tutorial ... First trigger: "java scripts". Second trigger: this guy LITTERALLY ONLY TEACHES YOU HOW TO PLACE WIDGETS ON THE CANVAS. THANKS FOR NOTHING SHERLOCK!
Oh btw: did you know that android studio gives the best error messages?
"Error: illegal start of expression"
NO ERROR MESSAGE - NOTHING!
YOU BETTER USE THE IDE OR YOU GO HOME YOU FUCKER!!!
Oh and btw: if you want to read the best documentation - the code itself YOU GOTTA AGREE TO OR TERMS OF SERVICE!!!! WE DONT WANT ANYBODY TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL WITHOUT US KNOWING!!!!!
THANK YOU GOOGLE FOR NOTHING!
thanks godot for *atleast* existing. You are the... last pick i'd pick, but , I have experienced android studio now.
If anybody has any advice on what to use instead, please go ahead. And you better not tell me how good you are at android studio. I DONT CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN IMPLEMENT IN ANDROID STUDIO. I JUST WANT SOMETHING THAT IS USABLE WITHOUT HAVING TO BE EXTRA CAREFUL WHEN DOING *ANYTHING*!!!!
These fresh new college grads...calling themselves Full Stack Developers...
Ask them to consume a web service and I get a blank look...ask them to create a REST service and they are like WTF are you talking...
Has it come to the point that people just keep throwing around terms without understanding the inherent philosophy or idea behind them or is it like it's just to show that they are the "COOL" kids...with no actual idea of what the fuck they are doing ???10
"Thank you for choosing Microsoft!"
No Microsoft, I really didn't choose you. This crappy hardware made you the inevitable, not a choice.
And like hell do I want to run your crappy shit OS. I tried to reset my PC, got all my programs removed (because that's obviously where the errors are, not the OS, right? Certified motherfuckers). Yet the shit still didn't get resolved even after a reset. Installing Windows freshly again, because "I chose this".
Give me a break, Microshaft. If it wasn't for your crappy OS, I would've gone to sleep hours ago. Yet me disabling your shitty telemetry brought this shit upon me, by disabling me to get Insider updates just because I added a registry key and disabled a service. Just how much are you going to force data collection out of your "nothing to hide, nothing to fear" users, Microsoft?
Honestly, at this point I think that Microsoft under Ballmer might've been better. Because while Linux was apparently cancer back then, at least this shitty data collection for "a free OS" wasn't yet a thing back then.
My mother still runs Vista, an OS that has since a few months ago reached EOL. Last time she visited me I recommended her to switch to Windows 7, because it looks the same but is better in terms of performance and is still supported. She refused, because it might damage her configurations. Granted, that's probably full of malware but at this point I'm glad she did.
Even Windows 7 has telemetry forcibly enabled at this point. Vista may be unsupported, but at least it didn't fall victim to the current status quo - data mining on every Microshaft OS that's still supported.
Microsoft may have been shady ever since they pursued manufacturers into defaulting to their OS, and GPU manufacturers will probably also have been lobbied into supporting Windows exclusively. But this data mining shit? Not even the Ballmer era was as horrible as this. My mother may not realize it, but she unknowingly avoided it.6
Man, I think we've all gotten way too many of these.
Normally most interactions that I have are through email. Eventually some would try to contact me via phone. These are some:
"Hey! We are calling you from <whatever company name> solutions! (most of them always seem to end on solutions or some shit like that) concerning the Ruby on Rails senior dev opportunity we were talking about via email"
<niceties, how are you doing, similar shit goes here...eventually>
So tell us! how good/comfortable would you say you are with C++?"
Me: I have never done anything serious with c++ and did just use it at school, but because I am not a professional in it I did not list it in my CV, what does it have to do with Rails?
Them: "Oh the applications of this position must be ready to take in additional duties which sometimes happen to be C or C++"
Me: Well that was not anywhere in the offer you sent, it specifically requested a full stack Rails developer that could work with 3 different frontend stacks already and like 4 different databases plus bla bla bla, I did not see c++ anywhere in it. Matter of fact I find it funny, one of the things that I was curious about was the salary, for what you are asking and specifically in the city in which you are asking it for 75k is way too low, you are seriously expecting a senior level rails dev to do all that AND take additional duties with c++? cpp could mean a billion different things"
Them: "well this is a big opportunity that will increase your level to senior position"
Me: the add ALREADY asks for a senior position, why are you making it sound that I will get build towards that level if you are already off the bat asking for seniors only to begin with?
Them: You are not getting it, it is an opportunity to grow into a senior, applicants right now are junior to mid-level
ME: You are all not making any sense, please don't contact me again.
Them: We are looking for someone with 15 years experience with Swift development for mobile and web
Me: What is up with your people not making these requirements in paper? if I knew from the beginning that you people think that Swift is 15 years old I would have never agreed to this "interview"
Them: If you are not interested in that then might we offer this one for someone with 10 years experience as a full stack TypeScript developer.
Me: No, again, check your dates, this is insulting.
* For another Rails position
Them: How good are you with Ruby on Rails in terms of Python?
Me: excuse me? Python has nothing to do with Ruby on Rails.
Her (recruiter was a woman) * with a tone of superiority: I have it here that Python is the primary technology that accompanies Rails development.
Me (thinking this was a joke) : What do you think the RUBY part of Ruby on Rails is for? and what does "accompanies Rails development" even means?
Me: This is a joke, goodbye.
To be fair this was years ago when I still didn't know better and test the recruiters during the email part of being contacted. Now a days I feel sorry for everyone since I just say no without even bothering. This is a meme all on itself which no one has ever bothered to review and correct in years for now. I don't know why recruiters don't google themselves to see what people think of their "profession" in order to become better.
I think people in web development get the short end of the stick when it comes to retarded recruiters more than anywhere else.6
Yesterday I wanted to go to the theater with my girlfriend. It was her idea because as a student you can get reduced tickets for the play, but only via the online store exactely two hours before the play starts. We had already tried two weeks before but with no success. So this time I said i want to be on my pc with a proper browser and not a mobile version like last time. So we are sitting at home me in front of their website on one screen and with a clock on the other screen. Two minutes realy i hit refresh and I get a selection for the reduced tickets, nice.
You would think.
After selecting the amount. ERROR: Can not get your tickets. I was like fuck they are already sold out because it's a popular play. But hey let's try again. I got one ticket but not the second one, okay strange lets try again, same ERROR again. WHAT the FUCK, no feedback what so ever. My girlfriend had then the idea that they maybe restricted the amount for reduced tickets to one (does not state this explicitly but hey lets give it a shot). Use second browser select one ticket. ERROR can not get you the amount of seats. Rage level near to a 1000 why did it work two minutes before but not anymore. Trying around for five more minutes finally got the second ticket.
Now the real fun begins.
Proceeding to checkout should not be that hard you would think, but you need to be registered for that. Okay so let's do that. The salutation is not required neither is the address for the tickets but you need to have a company name??!!!!! The fuck?? I am not self employed and neither are a most other people around here so why is this field mandatory? Beeing a little under stress I decided to found the "asdf" company with my girlfriend.
Now one would think checking out is easy. Not so fast.
After accepting the terms of service another ERROR, unable to accept your data. What data? I did not input anything new? Where does this come from? Ok never mind I am going to pay with credid card that must work!
ERROR: Internal paymentservice initialization failure! Sorry what? I thought maybe I was to long idle in this browser and they do not reserve the tickets for so long (which would be no surprise to me at this point). Let's try again. Nope same error.
Now my rage level was really over 9000 but we really wanted to go so I decided to call the customer SUPPORT. Or better to say I had a answering maching telling me for ten minutes how sorry they are that this takes so long, yeah you bet. Then and this is now really great: the support guy asks me: "What error do you see? Internal paymentservice initialization failure?" I was like, okay he knows this so they need to know how to handle it. FUCK NO. "Sorry I can't help you. This is our payment system maybe they (IT) are doing some maintenance I can't halp you. Call the theater directly good day." Sorry what just happened, you fuckers are the vendors for the tickets for nearly all big events around here and the theater explicitly states to call you for tickets but you can not help me? Like hell.
This process took 25 very frustrating minutes and I was really angry and wanted to quit, then I saw that there is also a paypal option which I had not tried. With very little hope i selected everything for the payment, registered with paypal and they told me I already had an account. So reactivated this five year old account payed with all the mobile passwords and tans to finally, after 30 fucking minutes, get a pdf file for a ticket. Repeated the last step for the second ticket and with some time left to get there we were off.2
With the recent mark zuckerberg hearing, a ton of websites have actually changed their privacy policies and terms of service, to be much more transparent, so it did have a good impact, but the thought that it took that, to implement those changes is infuriating4
PayPal sucks. They canceled our ability to take ecommerce payments just because. No reason given. We had not violated any terms of service. Our customers are happy with our products. And we were making them lots of money. They just up and pulled the plug because they’re PayPal and screw anyone who asks why. Idiots.3
Just got the most aggressive GDPR email so far, the title was "accept or we delete your account" the email contained lot of bullshit and at the end it says "if you don't accept our current terms of service, we will delete your account" and a very low res "yes I accept" button smashed 4 times throughout the entire email, well, watch if I care, just making it even easier for me to ignore that shit.4
Is your code green?
I've been thinking a lot about this for the past year. There was recently an article on this on slashdot.
I like optimising things to a reasonable degree and avoid bloat. What are some signs of code that isn't green?
* Use of technology that says its fast without real expert review and measurement. Lots of tech out their claims to be fast but actually isn't or is doing so by saturation resources while being inefficient.
* It uses caching. Many might find that counter intuitive. In technology it is surprisingly common to see people scale or cache rather than directly fixing the thing that's watt expensive which is compounded when the cache has weak coverage.
* It uses scaling. Originally scaling was a last resort. The reason is simple, it introduces excessive complexity. Today it's common to see people scale things rather than make them efficient. You end up needing ten instances when a bit of skill could bring you down to one which could scale as well but likely wont need to.
* It uses a non-trivial framework. Frameworks are rarely fast. Most will fall in the range of ten to a thousand times slower in terms of CPU usage. Memory bloat may also force the need for more instances. Frameworks written on already slow high level languages may be especially bad.
* Lacks optimisations for obvious bottlenecks.
* It runs slowly.
* It lacks even basic resource usage measurement.
Unfortunately smells are not enough on their own but are a start. Real measurement and expert review is always the only way to get an idea of if your code is reasonably green.
I find it not uncommon to see things require tens to hundreds to thousands of resources than needed if not more.
In terms of cycles that can be the difference between needing a single core and a thousand cores.
This is common in the industry but it's not because people didn't write everything in assembly. It's usually leaning toward the extreme opposite.
Optimisations are often easy and don't require writing code in binary. In fact the resulting code is often simpler. Excess complexity and inefficient code tend to go hand in hand. Sometimes a code cleaning service is all you need to enhance your green.
I once rewrote a data parsing library that had to parse a hundred MB and was a performance hotspot into C from an interpreted language. I measured it and the results were good. It had been optimised as much as possible in the interpreted version but way still 50 times faster minimum in C.
I recently stumbled upon someone's attempt to do the same and I was able to optimise the interpreted version in five minutes to be twice as fast as the C++ version.
I see opportunity to optimise everywhere in software. A billion KG CO2 could be saved easy if a few green code shops popped up. It's also often a net win. Faster software, lower costs, lower management burden... I'm thinking of starting a consultancy.
The problem is after witnessing the likes of Greta Thunberg then if that's what the next generation has in store then as far as I'm concerned the world can fucking burn and her generation along with it.6
A story from back when I was looking for a new job,
tl/dr, I didn't see that coming, and I don't think I would trust any recruiter ever again,
It all started when I accidentally stumbled upon a blog/job hunting site which I joined because it looked cool, as I was looking at the job postings, I got an email from a recruiter from the site, she checked my linkedin and asked if I would like any assistance to a personalized job hunting process, the message sounds like a template, so I thought it was a spam, I ignored it at first,
Next day, the recruiter emailed me again asking about yesterday's email, there was no harm I thought, so after a brief exchange of information,I gave my cv, and I was to be contacted by another recruiter who is more specialized to my preference,
Shortly, another recruiter contacted me and asked for an online session, I agreed and we talked through skype, we had a bit of lengthy discussion, past experiences, technology, people I worked with, etc, and potential job openings, by the end, he decided that there are 3 suitable ones and we'll try them one by one, first one is a startup in europe,
Within a couple of days I was set up on an hr interview from the company, usual hr stuff, why going abroad, experiences, technologies, next recruitment process, etc,
The next in line was a technical interview with one of the devs, pretty cool guy, I answered all of the technical questions properly, overall I think I managed to impress him,
After that I got a take home test, to make a simple app in react native, lucky for me it was a public holiday the next day after I got the test, so I can focus on it, I finished and submitted it later by the end of the next day,
A week goes by, and an email from the hr came, they decided not to hire me because they already hired someone else, I politely thanked them for their time, and sent my regards,
The hr emailed back ensuring that there's no problem with me in terms of technical skill or as a person, it's just by the time I entered the process, there is someone who is already in the end of the recruitment process,
At the end the hr mentioned that if I would be okay with it and if there's another position open, we can pick up from where we left off, I said yes (probably was just lip service anyway)
Another week pass by, and there's no news from the recruiter, so I sent an email about the interview and asked about the remaining job posting,
Surprise, he said that the company could not be contacted, he tried contacting the hr and the ceo but there were no response, he would try to settle this first at the time, "I'll keep you posted" he said,
More than a month passed by and I asked for an update, same reply,
"Still no news from them"
"I cannot contact any of them"
"It's driving me crazy"
"Maybe you can try contacting them yourself if you find them on linkedin"
"Since we referred you to them, so it's still tied to us"
....well, what the fuckery? I went from a job hunter to a bounty hunter? I already mentioned that they rejected me (aside from the future prospect offer from the company),
I replied that at this point I would prefer to look at other opportunities, he never replied back, soo, that's one prospective relationship down the drain then,
My guess is that the company probably didn't want to pay for recruitment fee, since they mentioned a "next time" offer for me, and probably the recruiter caught up on it, my application status on the site is still "interviewing" up until now, and it has been more than 6 months since then,
Not sure whose at fault here, but I'm sure as hell can't & won't use the site again,
when your headphones get a new terms&service with an alexa assistant update and it becomes clear what the purpose of this product has become.

so it plays audio ads now? 😆1
being a sheep over the last years I just recently started to overthink my software choices in terms of privacy. but hell it's far from easy!
just now I realize how dependent I am from all of these services. I mean no problem ditching Facebook for example, it's not essential to me. but what about WhatsApp and GoogleDrive? I'm using these services on a daily basis...
any advices on what software or providers to use alternatively? especially browser, messaging app, email provider and cloud service?
please keep in mind that although I am willing to bring sacrifices I by no means want to neither could live like Richard Stallman. so an argument like "sell your MacBook because macOS is spyware" is not that helpful to me - more like what can I do to increase my privacy within the boundaries given to me. I have to find some sort of compromise. so curious about your advices, stories and opinions right now!15
Google has flagged a document in my drive, saying that it is violating its terms of service.
The document is just a digital logic and computer design book.
I don't know how a book is violating its TOS?20
Just found this today in the Terms for a VPN provider...
ARE YOU FUCKING JOKING?!? GO BOIL WHAT SMALL MAN JUNK YOU HAVE AND EAT IT.2
I came up with what I considered to be a brilliant approach to a festering internal knowledge management problem using a third-party SaaS. I rolled it out and it was very popular. Weeks later, after my profile had become the "linchpin" by which hundreds of other employees had joined the service, I was told that a female employee (yes, gender is important to this story) had produced a proposal for a more in-house solution that used a different company's software and that I would be on the team to roll it out. I thought it was a great idea and I deferred to her on pretty much everything.
Months after that I was accused, by several other female managers, of trying to take over the whole leadership of the project just because of one minor suggestion I had proposed. One day, after a lengthy interrogation about their take on my emails on the matter (lacking only the bright, hot spotlight in my eyes) I was booted off the project and the woman who had proposed the project was promoted. She then proceeded to lord it over on me and treat me like crap.
This type of thing was a general pattern within the company that amounted to a form of a reverse discrimination "policy" (unwritten). The effect was that the ratio of men to women in upper management was not equal but completely flipped. Way more women than men had upper management positions and higher pay.
In their eyes, the ends (women broke through the glass ceiling) justified the means (discrimination and bullying) which I guess is good and "equal", again in their eyes, in terms of the overall perception modern feminism has about men needing a comeuppance.
But in the context of HR's stated policy on equality, meaning 1:1 men and women in position of power and pay and a non-threatening work environment for all, which we all (men and women) were forced to sign every year, it was an utter fail as far as the math and intimidation went.2
I just used booking.com and good fucking god is the whole website a shit infested hell hole. They use scammiest and pushiest techniques to make you book a place asap without giving you space to breathe and read details.
There are countless examples of absolute asshole design within every inch of that place and I don't even want to imagine what they do with my data.
Suffice to say this was the first and last time I will use their services and if I were to give any advice, is "don't be the dick responsible for website/app/service similar to booking.com"5
As a new freelancer I didn't have much clients , so I paired with a web designer +10 years exp. who work with me as a pm and that was a bad decision.
Although I am a back-end dev , half of the projects were frontend/WordPress theme (less price than back-end projecrs) - so 30% of the projects were cancelled .
sometimes I receive project's which have requirement, like magento, I don't know anything about ,
I tried to push myself but I burned out after six month.
he deals with clients, partner with other companies ,and I don't know anything about the terms.
at the end I was like an employee without any benefits from his company .
moreover I get my money after 45 day!!!
and not all my money .
this is a project I work for another company through him
A requirement for mobile back-end server was integrating with parse and that was my first time working with Facebook parse so ....
after two weeks ..
we received email from parse that they'll shutdown their service after a year .
so we moved to Amazon sns again my first time working with aws .
at the end I can't charge for extra money but my pm became a gold partner for that company .
the only thing that made me hold is that I need some high quality projects for my c.v.
he didn't show on hangout because I need my money .
this will be my last project with him.
wow I write too much ... I feel better now .😥1
did i just read the
i. terms of service
ii. acceptable use policy
iii. cancellation policy
well that was boring…1
God Damn Privacy Regulations
New terms of service for your account
Sigh...if i we're EU citizen it would be for the best, except for those businesses that can't bother to update but I'm not even EU.
Email filter activated!2
Decided to look at Firebase tonight, to see what's what. Before accessing the demo project, it promoted me to review the Terms of Service. I obliged.
...holy fucking shit, dude.1
I keep seeing two philosophies bash heads at work.
1. "Hey, use these tools according to idioms and best practices for that tool. We worked hard getting this to work predictably, and it depends on you doing things consistently."
2. "Go pound sand, I want to do what makes sense for the project. To hell with your nazi conventions."
They're both right, and they're both idiots.
#1 is right because precedents exist for a reason. People did a bunch of stuff with their tools and got things to behave reasonably well, showing mastery over a stack. There could also be actual legal- and infosec- related reasons to following a protocol for changes, and ignoring those precedents invites disaster.
#1 is an idiot because there's a fine line between enforcing consistency and micromanagement. If the idioms they confuse with architecture are making it harder for other people to work, then they need to back off and let context, not ego guide the conversation. Good architecture should enable and encourage people to change the software in radical ways.
#2 is right because Context. Is. King. No project should shape around a tool. Tools should simply and objectively obey their users through good and bad use alike in service of the project. A culture that would oblige you to change for the sake of a tool is not an engineering-driven culture, it's a culture driven by self-anointed thought leaders who learned everything they know about software from Medium.com and Smashing Magazine. To enforce idioms and consistency blindly is turn the best practices found so far into the status quo that prevents change.
#2 is an idiot because there's a baby in the bathwater, which is some of that context they so treasure. By getting defensive with #1, they forget that the more they change, the more the team has to re-learn to adapt. The worst case is the cowboy that rewrites the implementation from scratch, causing QA to re-do ALL WORK and causing engineers to drop everything for one person's way of doing things.
The compromise is hard, but here's what I think it entails:
- Context really is king, but frame your changes in terms understood by how the team already thinks about the project; and
- Make those changes work independent of the tech stack on which they sit.
Doing this requires a solid understanding of, well, SOLID, and lots of patience dealing with ego and red tape.
This may seem obvious to you, but I'm so tired of watching the arguments at work about this degrade software quality and the end-user's experience.1
Just bumped into this service called hCaptcha which looks very similar to Google's reCaptcha.
Anybody used it before? what's the difference in terms of benefits?
if it is not a google service, then where does it fetches its captcha images from?
I'm just a bit curious.6
Looking for "real reviews" of Udemy courses.
Who here have taken a Udemy course?
Which course did you take?
What was your opinion of it, in terms of overall quality, material coverage, interactivity (the coursework), and so forth?
Did you feel you actually learned useful things at the conclusion of it?
Had you taken a similar course through a different service? Which service and how did it compare?
There are some $10 courses at Udemy I'm considering purchasing. But there are two $100/each courses I'm highly interested in. TMI: We are a single income, single parent household of 3 with Christmas nearing and all the childrens have birthdays this month. Spring Break was apparently a very busy time for the adults of our extended family. Hence, even the $10 is hard to part with.5
Me (Yesterday): I'm going to start reading things before just checking checkboxes in future!
Me (Today): I'll start that checkbox thing later...
Background: We switched from just simple old PHP and JS using notepad++ to PHPStorm and its infinite configurables, Symfony 4, Twig, Composer, Doctrine, Yarn, NPM, Bootstrap, ( thank the stars we didn't try to add Docker in with all this ), any other junk I'm missing here? Then upgraded to Symfony 5.
Symfony's autowiring: madness behind the curtains. I get frustrated about when and where I can just magically inject these dependencies or use config variables, you know, like the ones you define in service.yaml. Hmmm, "service".yaml. In a controller you can say getParameter() but in a service you have to inject the parameter, FROM THE "SERVICE".yaml!!! Autowiring drives me nuts. Ok, so we can supply dependencies using the constructor, that's great! Within a controller you never have to instantiate the object you're passing to the constructor (autowiring handles that). That's cool, weird when we you try to trace it for the first few times, but nice I guess. Feels like half-assin' it. What bugs me here is that it only works in controllers... I guess out of the box.. i'm not even sure. To get that feature to work for services you have to make some yaml edits. Right?Maybe? Some of the Symfony tutorials have you code up some junk then trash it. Change config then wipe that out and do X instead... so I have no idea what "out of the box" for Symfony really is.
Found this cool article that describes my frustrations in better terms and seems like a good resource to learn about autowiring. I need to continue my yaml wizardry classes. https://alanstorm.com/symfony-autow...
.....And on to YAMLs, or CSS, or JS or any other friggin' change you make to a file anywhere... Make a change, reload page, nothing... nope you have to do some hidden cheat combo of yarn dostuff -> cache:clear -> cache:warmup -> cache:cache:the:cache ... I really really hate this crap. Maybe I'm too old school for all this junk. It was simple with pure PHP. Edit code, push file, reload page, and oh look it changed! Done. So happy! Ok, Ok. Occasionally the js or css might get cached by the browser and you have to ctrl/f5 or Shift/f5 .. one of those. With this framework there's just so much more that you have to remember to do get some new feature of your site loaded.
Now, I totally get wanting to use some type of entity framework, but I feel like my entire world turned backwards. Designing tables using something like MySQL Workbench made sense. I can see all the columns and datatypes right there as i'm building them. From what I've experienced now with Symfony/Doctrine is you have to make and entity, get a shit-ton of question lobbed at you and if it's a relation field you have to really have a clear idea of the cardinality up front. Then we migrate that to the database. Carefully read through the SQL if you really really just want to use migrations:migrate in Prod. That alter table could cost you some some downtime if your table is large.
Some days man....
Have a question about email service providers. Specifically inbox delivery and warmup. Over the years I gathered a ~200k email database of players from my projects. I cleared them by using debounce.io and now I have 100k clean emails. That means I can send a mass newsletter and bounce rate should be good. Now my main question is what email services provider should I use? For email client I thought of setting up sendy.co, for hosting it use sendybay.com and for smtp use pepipost.com But the problem with sendy is that it sends emails without any delay. Like 2-3 emails a second. Is there a difference in terms of inbox delivery and domain reputation wether I send all emails in bulk with sendy or should I try to keep low profile and send lets say 1k a day? I have friends who use amazon ses and they are able to send even 100k a day, given that emails database is cleared(valid working emails) and bounce rate is low.5
So, google is complaining about an increased amount of 404 errors on my website. How do i complain about 404 errors on their site?
