Friend: Hey! How do you uh... alt tab out of the game?
Me: *wtf* Uhhh... You press alt tab.
Friend: *after 10 seconds* Oh! That’s why it is called alt tab.
Me: *crying laugh emoji*5 -
I contantly keep forgetting to turn on my music. It's like:
*open youtube*
"Wait let me just do this thing real quick"
*alt-tab to ide, start coding*
*get in the zone, coding intensifies*
3 hours later...
"Oh yeah let's turn on some music"
Rinse and repeat...7 -
Tip for devs (esp front end):
Sublime text (and few other inferior editors) has a plugin called "transparency" that allows your editor to be transparent.
Windows 10 powershell consoles can be made transparent.
1) Open browser
2) Open command prompt over it with 75% transparency
3) Open editor over both with 50% transparency.
4) Set editor to fullscreen, no-distraction mode to center the text (Shift+F11 in sublime)
Enjoy coding while constantly viewing the code, the browser and monitoring the cmd prompt at the same time, without having to click Alt+Tab a zillion times.17 -
Fuck applications which repeatedly try to grab focus while starting up in the background. Yes, I clicked your little icon, you attention whore. But I'll fucking alt-tab to you when *I* am ready.5
-
I feel guilty when I spend time after work writing code, because there's that voice in the back of my head saying I should switch to leisure activities. "You've worked enough, don't sit all day, it's unhealthy".
Then I go for a walk or start planning something to cook. And there's still this weird feeling of guilt for not being productive enough, telling me I should learn a new programming language. "Work on your skills, you need to learn stuff to stay relevant in your field"
BRAIN, BE FUCKING CONTENT WITH WHAT I'M DOING FOR ONCE!
And stop fucking bullshitting me.
You're not trying to make me take a walk, you're not having my best interests at heart by making me learn or work.
I'm fucking on to you, you treacherous shitlitter of neurons. You're betraying me, and it happens every single fucking time I let my guard down.
I alt-tab out of my IDE, and within seconds you're there, impeding my intellect, making me click bookmarks to check the feculent streams spraying from the fingers of "friends" on Facebook.
I take a poop, and you just let me slide into a slowwitted state where I pick up my phone and stare at some crapfilled mire of memes.
You're the retarded digital-era id, wearing the disguise of a renaissance smart-ass ego, and you're dumping the fucking guilt on ME?
FUCK YOU AND YOUR MEMES, I'M GONNA BAKE A STEAK WITH MUSHROOM SAUCE AND WATCH PROGRAMMING VIDEOS WHILE DANCING.
NAKED.
(and maybe browse devRant later. I still love you, devRant)5 -
My work pc has been replaced just now. It took so much time for them to replace that crappy piece of garbage. Now, I can alt+tab 10x faster than my previous pc. Lol.
-BTW. This is my very 1st rant/post here. Hi guys 🤓.8 -
I like playing tf2.
I play every video game with max brightness on the lappy.
The problem is that when I alt tab back to anything else, eg chrome, I get dazzled and my eyes hurt.
I'm on linux and accidentally noticed that I can connect to the X server and do stuff.
So I'm listening for events with the PropertyChangeMask, and when the active window has the name "Team Fortress 2 - OpenGL", I run "light -S 100", otherwise I use what I already had.
Very happy with this hack, instant brightness changes on alt tab. -

My friends trynna bullshit how windows is much better than Linux. They sayin shit like "at least our csgo don crash when we alt tab" then I say "at least I don't have to reboot when something go wrong" and they be like "yea but windows better" 😡16

I'm thirteen, and we have an excel unit in our computer class. When she's want to teach us something, she'd deploy her screen on ours and we couldn't do anything. It took me until the third time (yes, that long) to remember the connection was wired via Ethernet. I took the cord out and my computer was free! During the boring "lesson," I opened Code::Blocks to work on a fun side project. When she notice she wasn't connecting to my computer, she walked over to my chair and saw Code::Blocks on my screen. Then, I noticed her behind me. I quickly pressed ALT+TAB. She walked back to her chair. To this day I swear she thinks Im a hacker.11
-
Not sure if thats just me, but I absolutely can not stand watching people work on a computer slowly. Like: Watching people copy a text into a different window be like:
Select text with the mouse...
Move mouse down for 20 seconds until everything is selected ..
Right click
Copy
Click on Taskbar to open different program.
Right click in program
Click paste....
I .... just ... can't man.
Its: Ctrl+a, ctrl+c, alt+tab, ctrl+v
(And that is just one example, there are worse ones)
Maybe that just me, but I am so used to using my computer fast, and I optimized the shit out of my workflow.12 -
Full HD 27' monitor 😍😍😍 when you can divide your screen into two halves easily and there's no need to do Alt+tab3
-
Cousins came over...
Me: just compiling some python code, opens up jupyter notebook to take a look at some data science code
Little Sis: *looks at jupnb dump on cmd*
Whoa are you Hacking?
Me: yeah. I got bored of whole Hacking command typing thing so I opened up my hacker console.
*print("hello world")*
Sis:wow!
Me: you know what, typing is too tiresome, I'll connect to it with my mind
*alt-tab*
*cmatrix -b*
*sits in yoga pose*
Little Sis: Screams at the top of her lungs and runs to aunt
"DAVE IS HACKING MATRIX"3 -
/* A normal day at office */
// A non tech guy sitting next to me
// Wants to save a file on his system.
Him: Moves Cursor. Clicks File->Save.
Me: *facepalm*
<!-- moments later -->
// Time to save a file
Me: Ctrl-SSS
Runs code.
<!-- insert picture here -->
Me: Alt-TAB. Ctrl-Z. Ctrl-S.
Him: *sigh* -
How to deter me from working remotely.
Make the Remote Desktop app now catch ALT+TAB...
Well at least it isn't winter...1 -
I am a Windows person. I always argue how great it is.
Well, not today.
I was today years old when I learned that you CANNOT uninstall store app via store ;p You need to go to settings / apps and functionality / your app / uninstall
The photo app (Yes the one bundled with win10) doesn't work if you use Hard drive compression AND it is a symlink for OneDrive (So you don't need to keep all photos on the drive). Fucking Paint works without problems.
Email client : If you alt+tab too fast after hitting 'Send email", there is 50% chances that email won't be send. Basiclly you need to hit "send" and wait until you see it in "sent" folder.
Well, as i'm ranting, here for Linux too :
I have a small ubuntu server VM, worked very well for last 6 months. Now "System in read only mode". Fucking apt-get upgrade fucked with something. I don't want to look, so I'll just rebuild a fresh vm.
And macOS should take sometyhing too : Who the fuck decided "enter" is for editing the name of file ?! really !
Well, ALL os are shit, all have downsides, I need my own OS. But I still want AA games... So windows for me.25 -
Ok, I am actually losing my mind at this bad excuse of a work place.
This guy, that I had only briefly talked to in email twice before, never met or even had a video chat, opened a ticket like this:
"Hi Alt-Tab,
I hope you enjoyed the end of last week, the weekend, and the beginning of this one! All well here. I ventured to [random place in London] for the first time on Saturday – liked it."
Now. I already can't fucking stand when colleagues that are not at all close start emails with "how was your weekend?" shit because then I have to waste another minute addressing that. But this guy took it to such another level that I literally had to read his email 3 times to believe what I just witnessed.
And of course he then went on and described the issue as folows:
"Just a quick note about the issue I have - could you let me know why the calendars are not syncing?"
Maybe if you fucking spent half of the energy of you writing a polite bullshit "hello" and instead used that to actually describe the issue I could help.
Fuck off.22 -
This week's huge fuck you goes to... Drumroll please...
Slack!
You earned this prize for your stupid auto-sleep if there is no interaction for x minutes!
I don't want to install your crap software on my system, so i am forced to alt tab every 15 minutes just to press space and then delete, because God forbids i am being productive on my freaking IDE, second computer, test device and/or meeting!
Also lovely how phone notifications are not sent on mobile unless you are on sleep mode... How could I ever ask for urgent notifications if i take a small break? Oh, right! I should go to sleep mode, so people will think i didn't touch your shitware for 30 mins every fucking time i go to the toilet! :D
Please get your prize whenever possible!12 -
[sarcasm] Sure, change the front end completely after i spent half a day taking screenshots to compile documentation for other people to you use your tool...Its not like i have anything else better to do anyway >.< [/sarcasm]1

I often read articles describing developer epiphanies, where they realized, that it was not Eclipse at fault for a bad coding experience, but rather their lack of knowledge and lack of IDE optimization.
No. Just NO.
Eclipse is just horrendous garbage, nothing else. Here are some examples, where you can optimize Eclipse and your workflow all you like and still Eclipse demonstrates how bad of an IDE it is:
- There is a compilation error in the codebase. Eclipse knows this, as it marks the error. Yet in the Problems tab there is absolutely nothing. Not even after clean. Sometimes it logs errors in the problems tab, sometimes t doesn't. Why? Only the lord knows.
- Apart from the fact that navigating multiple Eclipse windows is plain laughable - why is it that to this day eclipse cannot properly manage windows on multi-desktop setups, e.g. via workspace settings? Example: Use 3 monitors, maximize Eclipse windows of one Eclipse instance on all three. Minimize. Then maximize. The windows are no longer maximized, but spread somehow over the monitors. After reboot it is even more laughable. Windows will be just randomly scrabled and stacked on top of each other. But the fact alone that you cannot navigate individual windows of one instance.. is this 2003?
- When you use a window with e.g. class code on a second monitor and your primary Eclipse window is on the first monitor, then some shortcuts won't trigger. E.g. attempting to select, then run a specific configuration via ALT+R, N, select via arrows, ALT+R won't work. Eclipse cannot deal with ALT+R, as it won't be able to focus the window, where the context menus are. One may think, this has to do with Eclipse requiring specific perspectives for specific shortcuts, as shortcuts are associated with perspectives - but no. Because the perspective for both windows is the same, namely Java. It is just that even though Shortcuts in Eclipse are perspective-bound, but they are also context-sensitive, meaning they require specific IDE inputs to work, regarldless of their perspective settings. Is that not provided, then the shortcut will do absolutely nothing and Eclipse won't tell you why.
- The fact alone that shortcut-workarounds are required to terminate launches, even though there is a button mapping this very functionality. Yes this is the only aspect in this list, where optimizing and adjusting the IDE solves the problem, because I can bind a shortcut for launch selection and then can reliably select ant trigger CTRL+F2. Despite that, how I need to first customize shortcuts and bind one that was not specified prior, just to achieve this most basic functionality - teminating a launch - is beyond me.
Eclipse is just overengineered and horrendous garbage. One could think it is being developed by people using Windows XP and a single 1024x768 desktop, as there is NO WAY these issues don't become apparent when regularily working with the IDE.9 -
What are your favorite hotkeys? Some of mine:
Super+x: opens xterm(by far my most used hotkey)
Alt+space: opens mutate launcher prompt
Super+Alt+c: opens selectable clipboard history
Super+Alt+d: toggles window decoration
Shift+Alt+4: enables draggable selection rectangle for screenshots(like on a Mac)
Alt+keypad_minus: switch to next virtual desktop
Super+tab: opens rofi for keyboard filterable selection of open applications5 -
Et tu Chrome?
Closing a tab should kill it.
I writes code, my code somehow causes an endless loop, tab gets at 25% i7 CPU.
I tells Chrome: "end it", Chrome won't close.
I wants to see under the hood to diagnose, Chrome unresponsive, forget about DevTools.
I Ctrl + Alt + Dels it
Sad Windows user4 -
This guy in a youtube tutorial is continuously moving AND RESIZING his windows to switch between chrome and the text editor after each little change, and this is physically hurting my head😖 WHY DOESN'T HE USE ALT+TAB7
-
When you have notepad++ with 30+ files open, Excel spreadsheets on the taskbar, One Note annotations all over the screen, some email drafts pending in Outlook, but you can't remember where you Ctrl+v'd the fucking snippet.. alt + tab for ages to find it pasted in the browser's url bar lol1
-
"Where do I find the Ctrl key ?"
"What is TAB ?"
"CTRL-ALT-DEL. What is that? Where Do I find it?"
P.S. These people are my classmates and some others I know... -
Stupid stupid university custom exam IDE... first thing select a few lines hit tab oops replaces code with tab character... compile is alt+C and run is alt+R (never seen that before) and you have to go save -> compile -> run.. instead of just hitting run and last but not least it syncs your code with the server so every save file takes 3-5s at which time the editor freezes
ALSO NO DEBUGGER OR JAVA CONSOLE...6 -
Get to work, reboot your machine to try to fix VS throwing way too many exceptions...get locked out of the computer cause keyboard stoped being recognized...Go to IT...now the mouse is not being recognized either...Well, this morning is just going downhill...
-
Step 1: stackoverflow.com
Step 2: CTRL + C
Step 3: ALT + TAB
Step 4: CTRL + C
Step 5: FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU3 -
Some interesting keyboard shortcuts that are lesser-known but can be quite useful:
1.Windows Key + . (Period): In Windows 10 and later versions, this shortcut opens the emoji panel, allowing you to quickly insert emojis into your text.
2.Ctrl + Shift + T: This shortcut reopens the last closed tab in most web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge). It's handy if you accidentally close a tab and want to retrieve it quickly.
3.Ctrl + Backtick (`): In some text editors and IDEs (like Visual Studio Code), this shortcut toggles the integrated terminal window, allowing you to quickly switch between editing and running commands.
4.Ctrl + Shift + Esc: This directly opens the Task Manager in Windows, skipping the intermediary step of opening Ctrl + Alt + Delete and selecting Task Manager.
5.Alt + Drag: In many graphics and design applications (like Photoshop), holding down the Alt key while dragging an object duplicates it. This can save time compared to copying and pasting.
6.Ctrl + Alt + D: This shortcut shows the desktop on Windows, minimizing all open windows to quickly access icons and shortcuts on your desktop.
7.Ctrl + Shift + N: In most web browsers, this shortcut opens a new incognito or private browsing window, useful for browsing without saving history or cookies.
8.Alt + Enter: In Excel, this shortcut opens the Format Cells dialog box for the selected cell or range, allowing quick formatting changes without navigating through menus.
9.Shift + F10: This shortcut performs a right-click action on the selected item or text, useful when you can't or don't want to use the mouse.
10.Ctrl + Shift + V: In many applications, including Google Chrome and Microsoft Word, this shortcut pastes text without formatting (paste as plain text). It's useful when copying text from websites or other documents.
++ if you like this6 -
Last night my office desktop received the Redstone update. I hate the new ALT+TAB functionality so much, it's borderline infuriating.2
-
I swear the most annoying thing about zoom is the fact it keeps requesting the focus while connecting to a call…
“Git a”
*alt-tab*
“dd [a letter][tab]”
*alt-tab*
“[a letter][tab][enter, missed cause it tries to focus itself again]”
*alt-tab*
“[Enter]”1 -
Playing ME:A, game froze, alt-tab out to try and close it, can see my mouse moving around but the screen the game is playing on is staying black. Whatever, shit happens, I'll just hard power off and reboot.
Powered down, push the power button, SSD isn't booting, being sent to BIOS. "Oh no."
SSD isn't listed in available boot options. "Shit." Checked the cables and what not, nothing, pretty sure it died on me. Go to Fry's to get a new 960 EVO m.2, sold out, go to the other one 30mins away that says it has one in stock, it doesn't either. 😧
Guess I'm ordering one online, Amazon says 1-3 weeks even with Prime, Samsung website says 1-3 days but no rush delivery.
Guess I'm computer-less for a while. (Unless I find something else before end of day)5 -
What if you could alt+tab out of windows in your virtualbox VM to windows in windows and vice-versa
And yes, I'd prefer native Linux but it's a work computer so I can't use it -
Why should gnome fuck up the switching ux? Just to be different?? Why couldn't you switch in multiple instances of an with alt+tab?? Why?2
-
Every time I move the cursor in a file or press alt+tab I hear bed springs squeaking. It's getting annoying :/4
-
That moment when you in Computer Security Management and the Professor shows you the different between
Alt+ Tab and Windows + Tab.
Professor: did you guys know about these shortcuts?
Me: of course how else do I code, write a post and check one on Stack Overflow, Google help on a code, check my work email for the boss response, and see how the codes runs on a browser? -
Always heard programmers bashing on artists because they can't keep consistent naming conventions and keep screwing up this and that. Well, i found something worst: marketing people. At least keep the extension we request on the files you are giving us :(
-
I wouldn't call Google totally breaking the recent apps button in third party launchers okay, but I must say that being exposed to gesture navigation against my will changed my opinion on it vastly. Sliding on the bottom of the screen to switch between open apps is incredible, it's the perfect equivalent for the desktop alt+tab6
-
D3 software tutorials at best
Press ctrl+D . G . Z . RMC .S . Move mouse . RMC . TAB . Select vex . E . RMC . S . Mouve mouse
Then Alt+Z see your vex
Then P to cut the Shift+L to select node .
Omg ... Wtf it worst then Vim or wat XD -
Microsoft understands we're pissed about low QA performance on updates. They're gonna bleach the Start menu and add a couple more buttons to the UI. https://theverge.com/2020/7/...9

Oh, how I loved KDE Plasma, but wtf is this? Alt+Tab is not working anymore for a few days now - had to change shortcut to something else. And from today, notifications does not look like Plasma notifications but exactly like in Unity. DAFUQ!
-
Following are the only real problems I had with my XFCE Manjaro (I guess essentially XFCE problems). My question is, is it just me?
Touchpad problems:
The synaptics deprecation kinda f'ed me up.
I tried sticking to synaptics, but I had an issue where if I connected a usb mouse the touchpad would sometimes stop working (it's deprecated after all).
So I switched to libinput. The default movement feels good (synap felt kinda slippery)... but then... NO COASTING/KINETIC SCROLLING in a lot of apps? WTF?!
Would kinetic scrolling work in general if I switched to a wayland based DE?
The alt tab has a delay:
you would expect one of the most lightweight DEs to have near instant switching. But no, I have like almost full second delay, and for the life of me I can't find the way to customize it.
Thr battery management is kinda stupid. Even though I set the thing to hibernate or sleep in low battery it never does. -
When ALT+TAB suddenly stopped working, I realize how much I use/need it... And I guess just bring able to switch between Windows in most recently used order...
