So I just got rejected for a job for being too introverted.
They were very impressed with my advanced and broad technical knowledge but they said I'm "too introverted to hang out with cool, young people". That's ageism and that's illegal. Anyway.
I have more knowledge than most senior specialist devs (I've worked with them and I know them) but just because I'm a reserved and thinking person, I'm not welcome in this society of idiots and I don't get a job.

Working in the IT Department is just funny man. Sometimes I wonder if I'm dumb, too smart to answer these dumb questions or these clients are just asking questions they already have answers to that I don't.
Client: Hey, can you please give X access to Y's Dropbox? He gets error saying he doesn't have access to the file.
Me: Uhh, you have to share a link to the specific file you want to share with X. Then only he can access it.
Client: Can you send him the link?
Me: Uhhhh, what link?
Client: The link to the file.
Me: Who created the file you want to share?
Client: My boss did. And he wants me to send the link to X. But I don't have the link so he said to check with IT.
Me (in my mind): WTF!!!!
Me: Ok, ask your boss to share the link to the file he created with you then you can send it to Y. He can also send it to Y directly himself. IT doesn't have and has no idea of what file your boss created. Only your boss knows.
Client: Ok, hold on let me check with him..
Client gets back on the phone.. "he said he deleted the file".
Me: Well, there's no file to share here.
Client: Can you find it?
Me: Call Dropbox.
Client: do you have his number?
Me: Who?
Client: Dropbox..
At this point I started laughing.. 😂😂😂🤣🤣
Me: Dropbox is a company.
Client: Ok, thank you. I'll call Dropbox.
At this point, I'm wondering. If this client thought Dropbox was person, then what did she mean by her initial question? 🤔

Hey fellow devs,
I'm proud to say, that today I've passed my final step/exam of my apprenticeship.
So now I'm officially an IT-Specialist - Software Development or "Fachinformatiker für Anwendungsentwicklung" in german.
I'm so fuckin' relieved and happy that this chapter is now finally closed and the real fun can begin!
My new job - indeed the old one with 4x payment and just a 32 hour week instead of a 40 hour one.
Now I will cheer and drink as much whiskey I can find out there! :D

Wk2: client complains about cost of service so requests I downsize the stack they asked for... Does so... Just to save some £££ at loss of any DR or HA capability
Wk3: Client wants stack moved to a different AWS account just cos... Advised could cause issues... Client says carry on. Migrates to account as requested on the days they requested.
Wk4: client complains that said migration caused issues and that proper change control wasn't followed..... That was never informed on..
Wk5: issue discovered to actually be network fault linked to clients wanting every £££ saved in AWS... And as the stack specialist I still have to write up a summary and findings?

I can't believe this company has not hired a ux designer yet!
Team managers have no clear design principles to follow, they are coming up with design changes and ideas on the fly.
For fucks sake, at least provide a reference design or color sets to implement instead of complaining to me when i use hard colors like red / green / blue on first version of what you asked to do.
I hate doing minor style changes on code when you have no clear vision about the design.
I think the end product is gonna end up as a ux nightmare without a ux specialist.2 -

Finally completed filing a claim for my laptop today. Been putting it off for months because it requires a call from a SquareTrade "specialist" to help diagnose your problem before a claim is finalized...
Me: "Hey I've received a box from you guys that was far too small for my [gaming] laptop both times I've sent this in and wanted to be sure I get the right size this time"
Specialist: "Oh, we've made some pretty big changes since you last filed a claim, we now base the size of the box we send you on the model of the device"

What is it with this seemingly ridiculous new trend on LinkedIn of replacing your meaningless job title with, somehow, an even more meaningless fake description of what you're doing? I'm seeing it all over.
Back in the day it'd just be "Python developer". Then the trend seemed to be a "Senior / lead / principle software engineer / Python specialist" (who cares if you're actually a senior eh, this is LinkedIn.) And if that wasn't ridiculous enough, now it's "Helping to transform the globe towards a greener future by implementing beautiful, robust code in Python 3.10" or similar. Who the hell wants to see this crap?!5 -
Don't. Especially while you're not a senior specialist. It doesn't really matter bad company or good: they all have something bad, they all have something good. From the bad examples you will learn WHAT, HOW and *WHY* should not be done. From the good examples you will learn what and why works and how efficiently.
Next month I'm gonna be working on a project that is SO bad I will flood DR with rants. But I'm looking forward to it, because I know I will learn what else should not be done.

Sharepoint intranet - took around 45 seconds to log in and open start page for the whole first year. Specialist went in to help. Now it only takes half a minute.
With 7000+ employees it means over 50 hours of wasted time _every day_ just from opening the start page once per employee and day.3 -

Someone got a tip how to start contributing to open source projects? I really want to spend some time to help out but I have some problems finding something small to begin with. It seems that everything i find needs some kind of specialist know how.

I'm really pissed. The kitchen builder doesn't trust my measurements, which is fine. Appointment with their specialist was an hour ago. Architect is on vacation and it was discussed last week that we can enter the construction side and the kitchen. No builder wanted to open the door for us! Even after talking to them. I had to phone the architect, this took so long. The measure specialist didn't want to wait, which I understand. I hate people, they always make things complicated. I really hate people! what's your opinion on search engine marketeers? I think they're smurky and don't know how the internet works. I once had a 'SEO specialist' even telling me that my HTML wasn't correct because it didn't had the same markup as Google's documentation. I've just recently finished a front-end, online one. As an experience it was awesome, I had contact not only with my mentor (great guy), but also with a lot of like-minded people. As a finishing touch we had a week of classes with an HR specialist to polish up our portfolio, CVs and to guide is through recruitment process. I can't really say much, as I'm still looking for a job, but I have a good feeling 'bout it all :)

BUT WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK.. IT TAKES 3 MONTH TO GET AN ACCOUNT. AND U KNOW WHAT.. I DIDNT EVEN GET THE API CREDENTIALS. THIS IS MY FINAL PROJECT FOR MY TRAINING TO BECOME AN IT SPECIALIST.3 -

I don't see that it is ok to make stupid of other people. I mean, it is ok for non-IT people/non-specialist/students didn't know that HTML programmer is not a thing or we can't just turn of the problem/bugs if sth gone wrong.
They aren't stupid. They just misinformed. Just smile (or laugh?) and explain to them.
No one is born knowledgeable of everything. We even learn how to walk, how to read, how to program.

I miss the good old days when developers could be developers and rely on DBAs, sysadmins and networkists to do their job well. I miss the days when developers were developing applications, sytems, modules,.. Not troubleshooting ELBs, RDS latencies or building monitoring for servers. -
I've been working for at the same comoany for maybe 7 years now and had my current position title for at least 3 years or even more...
Everyone else on the team except the Lead and Manager have the same title, they are 1 level higher (VP).
I don't think they get any perks but I want a title change to reflect the sorry of work and problems what I tend to fix (i.e. Technical Specialist rather than just Senior Developer). I'm pretty much the guy that fixes things when no one else can.
And a lot of people I know at other companies already have a VP title...

I switched careers so this is not my first rodeo.It's for a role of technology specialist and gave a vague description of uploading data to the mainframe and working directly with developers and QA.Only skill question the recruiter asked was how well I know SQL. Great company and location for me. What can I expect? I know they are going to do an assessment but I am unsure if it will be programming based.7
