Search - "bookmark"
Did you know logging into chrome will auto sync all your fucking bookmarks to that other person's account??
(I use Firefox mainly and chromium for testing.)
I use chrome only for porn. Got shit tons of bookmarks. I login to my friend's sister Gmail on my chrome(for remote desktop - to help fix her computer. Somehow, remote desktop doesn't work on chromium)
Was browsing her pc via remote session and suddenly all of my porn bookmarks appear at the top bar.)
Had to manually select each bookmark in the bookmark manager and delete since CTRL+A won't work during the remote session. Don't know why.
I know it's ridiculous to have 50+ tabs open, but please - pretty please - just make it work for me. 300 MB/tab is starting to make Windows mad.
No, I will not close them. I might need that page I opened 4 months ago and was too lazy to bookmark.
Your abusive friend,
Product manager: build us a recently viewed and bookmark feature!
Younger-Me: But every browser already has a bookmark feature and a recently viewed (history) feature and its much better implemented with much less overhead.
Product manager: I don't care. Give me this feature, you are supposed to do as i say and bow.
Younger-Me: I'll take it as a challenge.
--- two weeks after feature is deployed ---
Product Manager: 😁 See! Many users are using the feature we built *shows me messages from subscribed customers*
Me: 😨 I'll never underestimate user's stupidity again.3
I use the ++ button to set a bookmark on rants with many comments. So when I come back I can start reading from the red ++.8
For some people that are starting with M.L either by hobby or study. This is a very cool website to keep close to when fiddling with concepts that are alien to you:
Just thought it would be a nice bookmark to have.
sometimes I feel there must be a bookmark or favorite feature in devRant to save all those awesome rants10
Holy fuck the Instagram Android app has the WORST UX I've ever encountered!
I'm a professional Android developer and my girlfriend had to explain how to see a specific "story" more than once; IE; tap on it until it rotates round to the first! But tapping on a video post turns on the sound! What kind of dog shit for brains moron designed those interactions to be the same?
I can navigate around the app until all but one of the tabs displays a profile page when I navigate back to it. Lost much?
The center tab breaks that but only because it opens up a whole new screen out of nowhere, (bye bye bottom bar!) which repeats the "photo capture" that you can also get by swiping left on the left most tab!
Don't even get me started on the swiping! None of the tabs swipe between each other, like the convention, oh no. But some of them can swipe, yes!
The first tab swipes left and right, where the hell do they go you ask? Look for the obscure icons at the top (oh and bye bye bottom bar again!). The forth tab swipes but only to the left, they have text tabs like standard. That screen that comes up out of nowhere I mentioned? That can swipe too, but now the text tabs are at the bottom for god knows what reason as the top is empty!
On the profile tab we have more tabs. These are icon tabs inside the content now. The first two change the post content from a feed style to a grid, okay, so far so good. The other two? You'd imagine they also change how you view content right? Nope, one shows your favorites, and the other replaces the whole screen with a "photos of you" screen! With not only the bottom bar still showing, but an up button! Where the fuck do we go "up" to on the home screen??
Then we have the bookmark icon on the toolbar, which opens up a new screen "Saved", guess where that tabs are this time? They're back at the top! You know why? Because the navigation bottom bar is still there!! And there's an up button!!
At this point I'm just about ready to kill myself using this fucked up, backwards facing, ass for a face app that is somehow one of the most popular platforms on the earth, yet seems to have been made by five different designers on opposite ends of the planet!
at office: i’ll bookmark this web page so i can check it once i reach home

Discovered that its possible to bookmark places in code for easy access.
My whole life has been a lie so far.13
Me: Franz, can you explain your code to me?
Franz: Sure, but.. umm.. I forgot to bookmark the stackoverflow link.
My relative once called me and asked if she could come over to my house so that I can copy Facebook over to his flash drive. Turns out that she accidentally deleted the bookmark to facebook.com and thought that she'd lost it forever.
This is want happens to you when all of your relatives found out that you are "good with tech".3
Heres a Tip someone showed me a while back, thought I shared it here if somebody didn't knew. It works with Browser bookmarks and keywords that you assign.
typing "java: String" into the search bar will show searchresults in Google that only returns Pages from the Java API about Strings.
1.Search for "https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/...: %s" in Google.
3.Edit the Bookmark and assign the Keyword "java: "
4.??? (Search "java: Sring". duh)
Or typing "stack: help" will search for help in stack overflow.
Search %s in SO, bookmark and assign a keyword.
As far as I know this works in FF and Chrome. Cheers2
Tip: Never add an execution (PHP for example) script as a bookmark in your browser..
Your browser will occasionally poll the saved URL to update the favicon or sync to the server or something like that, which triggers the script without you knowing...11
Me: This is a good article about a CSS problem I always have and can never remember how to fix. Imma bookmark that.
Me, the next time I have that problem: Dang. Why doesn't this work. Better Google it.3
@dfox I would love to have a "save for later"/ bookmark feature. I am seeing so many great things here and I'd love to access them later. Maybe something you could implement some day?
Client: We need bookmark button added to the Movie Details page.
Me: How should it look? How should it work? Can you create Jira for it?
"5 months of me regularly asking about the feature"
Client: We can't agree on how should it work. Drop it.4
DevTools.Online is my favorite personal project I've worked on so far. It's a huge collectiom of tools, links and resources for web designers and developers. You can sign in with GitHub, Google, Twitter, or Facbook and create your own collection of tools you find useful. I got tired of digging through bookmark folders without any context for the links, so I decided to make a free resource that anyone can use. Check it out :)
Not really a rant and not very random. More like a very short story.
So I didn't write any rant regarding the whole Microsoft GitHub topic. I don't like to judge stuff quickly. I participated in few threads though.
Another thing is I also don't use GitHub very much apart from giving 🌟 to repos as a bookmark. Have one hobby project there. That's all. So I don't worry that much. I'm that selfish and self concerned. :3
I was first introduced to version control system by learning how to use tortoisesvn around 2008. We had a group project and one of the guys was an experienced and amazing programmer unlike the rest of us. He was doing commercial projects while we were at our 1st and 2nd year. Uni had svn repo server. He taught us about tortoisesvn. He also had Basecamp and taught us how to use it as well. So that's how I learned the benefits of using versioning tools and project management tools. On side note, our uni didn't teach any of those in detail :3
After that project, I was hooked to use versioning tools. So until school kicked me out, I was able to use their svn server. When I was on my own, I had to ask Google for help. I found a new world. There are still free svn services that I can use with certain limited functions. That's not the new world; I found people saying how git is better than svn in various ways. It was around 2010,2011.
At first I was a bit reluctant to touch git because of all the commands in terminal approach. But then I found that there is tortoisegit. I still thank tortoisesvn creator for that. I'm a sucker for GUI tools. So then I also have to pick which git servers to use. Hell yeah, self hosted gitlab is the way to go man. Well that's what the internet said. So I listened. I got it up and running after numerous trial and error. I used it briefly. Then I came back to my country on 2012-2013; the land of kilobytes per minute (yes not second, minute).
My country's internet was improved only after 2016. So from 2013 to 2016, I did my best not to rely on internet. I wasn't able to afford a server at my less than 10 people, 12ft*50ft office. So I had to find alternative to gitlab which preferably run on windows. Found bonobo and it was alright. It worked. Well had crazy moments here and there when the PC running Bonobo got virus and stuff. But we managed. We survived. Then finally multi national Telecom corporates came to our country.
We got cheaper and faster mobile data, broadband and fiber plans. Finally I can visit pornhub ... sorry github. Github is good. I like it. But that doesn't mean I should share my ugly mutated projects to the rest of the world. I could keep using Bonobo but it has risks. So I had to think for an alternative. I remembered that gitlab didn't have cloud hosting service when I checked them out in the past. So I just looked into Bitbucket and happy with their free plans of 5 users and unlimited private repos. I am very very cheap and broke.
That's why I said I don't really care that much about the whole M$GitHub topic at the beginning. However due to that topic, I have visited GitLab website again and found out they have cloud hosting now and their free plan is unlimited users and unlimited repos. So hell yeah. Sorry BB. I am gonna move to cheaper and wider land.
TL;DR : I am gonna move to GitLab because of their free plan.4
My bookmark bar has a random entry for "Clam Poisoning" , between all the Amazon Web Services and Ruby entries. I'm not sure who put it there? It wasn't my wife or I. Should I be worried? Should I avoid all the shellfish for a while?
I just installed and lunched Opera Browser and I see Mozilla's get started link on bookmark..
How and why?10
I remember when I was new to programming I would bookmark almost every website where I got a working solution...2
Firefox is shit
- In version 62 the cocksuckers finally removed the ability to add description to bookmarks, now there is no difference between mozilla shit browser and chrome, except chrome has working mobile version and working bookmark sync.
- Yes, firefox mobile on android does not even allow you to edit bookmarks so that useless crap can't be called a browser at all.
- Firefox shitcoded sync takes more time to sync 1 bookmark, than chrome takes to setup all bookmarks/addons/settings on fresh-install and in addition to that, it messed my bookmarks several times, so I am forced to sync places.sqlite via dropbox to syncronize bookmarks, because it is way much faster and reliable.37
I literally just deleted all (50+) of my college research files from chrome bookmark folder by accident but after a small research I landed on this article from HTG and by following instructions from there I successfully restore it. Fuck I've never felt so blessed in my fucking life.1
Need Recommendation : Reader.
Planning to start reading again after quite some time.
What's the simplest(cheapest) reader can I go for?
-Should not strain eyes.
-Don't need any fancy feature (not even WIFI or market place)
-I do already have epubs of most books that I want to read.
-Should be able to bookmark
-while a built-in dictionary & light would be great, its not a necessity.
Dont want to get something higher end unless I get:
- Improved pdf experience.
- Hassle free way to read manga/comics. (mainly manga)7
Bundling all non coding stuff (slack, checking bug tracker, task management, meetings, checking phone, etc) to the "edges" of the day, start/lunch/end.
Have a single channel through which you are available for emergencies — ignore the rest.
And never bookmark social media, entertainment or news on your work machine browser.
I think that everyone should take the time to look at this rant. It's never too late to start learning something. Everyone has their down days, maybe it would be worth it to favourite or bookmark this rant.
I think studying engineering has really fucked up the way i learn new things...i find it nearly impossible to commit anything to memory that could easily be looked up. On its own it doesnt sound so bad but now I keep forgetting simple programming syntax and android design patterns because my brain just keeps saying
"You dont need to remember this, you can find it online is 2 mins"
Id rather just keep a bookmark of a great navigation drawer tutorial as opposed to learning it myself...i worry now what will happen in my technical interviews even though I consider myself a good programmer
Papaly. It's the closest to what I really want in cloud bookmarks. There have been some outages recently and the bookmark info retrieval script is terribly buggy at times, but it usually does what I want it to, which is give me visual tables of bookmarks. I still haven't found anything I like better.3
