Search - "recommendation"
Watch 3 videos about iOS/Swift on YouTube, and now I'm getting a frontpage full of recordings of app development events and iPhone reviews.
Listen to one kpop track on Spotify out of curiosity, and now the recommendation playlist is polluted with music I really don't like.
If we are going to hand our balls to AI and expect it to be a glorious fondling fest, don't cry if it suddenly realizes "nuts? aren't those supposed to be cracked?".
I mean what's fucking next? Where will this "smart" shit end up?
I accidentally click on a my little pony meme, and amazon will drone-strike me with 500 gallons of glitter? I drunkenly mumble "OK google how do kangaroos fuck" in the back of a self-driving Uber, I'm going to be dropped off in a shady alley and raped by a dozen walibis?
STOP FUCKING TRYING TO UNDERSTAND ME, INTERNET. I JUST WANT TO FUCKING USE YOU, NOT BE USED BY YOU, THIS WASN'T THE DEAL.
If you truly understood me, internet, I would probably not even give a fuck about privacy. But you are all building these profiles wrong.
You don't understand that I might be interested in juggling tricks today, tomorrow it might be all about crocheting a wool sweater for my penis, and the day after that I'm curious how many corpses it would take to fill up an olympic swimming pool.
NO I'M NOT ACTUALLY INTERESTED IN THAT QUORA, STOP SENDING ME RECOMMENDATION EMAILS ON HIDING MURDER VICTIMS, MY BOSS WILL THINK I'M WEIRD.
Yeah of course I could pulls some plugs, anonymize the shit out of my online life. I respect those who manage to just say "Fuck you Google, I'm sick of your shit, I'm going cold turkey".
But these platforms are feeding us heroin-laced candy.
All your coworkers friends and family with their oled-lit zombiefaces, staring at tiny screens, all absent-mindedly grasping your ankles whispering "aww take one more hit with us, check out this funny youtube clip, let me send it to you on whatsapp.... what you don't have whatsapp? You deleted your facebook? don't you love grandma anymore? Why do you hate your family?"
Before you know it, you watched ten episodes about cultivating cactuses, have a year subscription to brilliant, skillshare, squarespace and 3 different organic foodboxes are delivered to your door, Netflix is spamming you about a cupcake baking show, and you're thinking about same-day delivery for a baseball bat so you can just beat the crap out of every pretty glass display you see.
I want to break up with you, Internet.
I love you, but I hate you.
Since you passed 2.0, you have grown into a manipulative bitch.
I just don't know if I'm strong enough. It's all "let's just be friends" with you, but I know you'll be trying to reel me back in.
Before I know it, you're feeding me cookies once again, and I'll end up balls deep with your trackers stuck to my dick.23
Okay so about a year ago these FUKKING IDIOTS decides, against my recommendation, to do this quick-ugly-hack and ninja it into production.
I tell them its a FUCKING BAD idea that will blow up in a year or so...
But no, just go go go!!!!!!!
Now a year later, shit blew up badly. A total FUCKING derail. These new idiots asks me to "fix the problem", the same fucking problem I predicted and warned them about a year ago. So now i have to clean up their ducking mess because "Nobody else knows how to fix it".
What the FUCKING HELL do we pay them fuckkkers to do?!!
New idiots you ask? Yep, because 3 out of the 4 original fucktards already left the place in order to go and make some other new collegues lives fucking miserable.
FUCK YOU FUCKING MOOTHERFUUUKKKEEERRRRRSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!2
!rant but recommendation:
I really like this book.
It's chewed away my misconceptions of JS. Especially coming from C++.
Small and precise.
JSON, JSLint and JSMin developer is the author.6
Browsed around the internet for a good linux distro to use.
Someone somewhere recommended Arch.
Downloaded Arch and usb booted it.
Tried to install it for 30 minutes and gave up.(😂)
Found a new recommendation, Bunsenlabs.
Now i have installed Bunsenlabs on every device i have (except for my phone & tablet of course :DD)
(Image is not related to earlier text)9
The time when I've felt like a badass, was when I was bored at a Birthday party at restaurant.
I didn't want to use my mobile data, so I tried to use the wifi of the restaurant. I didn't want to ask the password of the wifi, so I tried to get access by guessing. At first try I got it by entering "nameOfRestaurantCurrentYear".
Then I was browsing Play Store and there was a recommendation of an app (forgot the name) that analyses which the device is connected to wifi. So that got me interested that I installed on my phone.
So I played a little with and discover several Samsungs and iPhones connected to it (Some of the them had their real name next to the brand. It would be funny to yell their name out loud and they would be looking around.)
But there was one device that I didn't recognized. I searched on the web but found nothing. So later as I go to pay my part, I noticed that the credit card device had a wifi icon on it. So I looked over to the cash register and saw the name of the brand. It was the brand I didn't know of.
So basically they were using transfer payments over a public wifi.12
Most satisfying bug I've fixed?
Fixed a n+1 issue with a web service retrieving price information. I initially wrote the service, but it was taken over by a couple of 'world class' monday-morning-quarterbacks.
The "Worst code I've ever seen" ... "I can't believe this crap compiles" types that never met anyone else's code that was any good.
After a few months (yes months) and heavy refactoring, the service still returned price information for a product. Pass the service a list of product numbers, service returns the price, availability, etc, that was it.
After a very proud and boisterous deployment, over the next couple of days the service seemed to get slower and slower. DBAs started to complain that the service was causing unusually high wait times, locks, and CPU spikes causing problems for other applications. The usual finger pointing began which ended up with "If PaperTrail had written the service 'correctly' the first time, we wouldn't be in this mess."
Only mattered that I initially wrote the service and no one seemed to care about the two geniuses that took months changing the code.
The dev manager was able to justify a complete re-write of the service using 'proper development methodologies' including budgeting devs, DBAs, server resources, etc..etc. with a projected year+ completion date.
My 'BS Meter' goes off, so I open up the code, maybe 5 minutes...tada...found it. The corresponding stored procedure accepts a list of product numbers and a price type (1=Retail, 2=Dealer, and so on). If you pass 0, the stored procedure returns all the prices.
Code basically looked like this..
public List<Prices> GetPrices(List<Product> products, int priceTypeId)
foreach (var item in products)
List<int> productIdsParameter = new List<int>();
List<Price> prices = dataProvider.GetPrices(productIdsParameter, 0);
foreach (var price in prices)
if (price.PriceTypeID == priceTypeId)
prices = dataProvider.GetPrices(productIdsParameter, price.PriceTypeID);
* Omitting the other 'WTF?' code to handle the zero price type
I removed the double stored procedure call, updated the method signature to only accept the list of product numbers (which it was before the 'major refactor'), deployed the service to dev (the issue was reproducible in our dev environment) and had the DBA monitor.
The two devs and the manager are grumbling and mocking the changes (they never looked, they assumed I wrote some threading monstrosity) then the DBA walks up..
DBA: "We're good. You hit the database pretty hard and the CPU never moved. Execution plans, locks, all good to go."
<dba starts to walk away>
DevMgr: "No fucking way! Putting that code in a thread wouldn't have fix it"
Me: "Um, I didn't use threads"
Dev1: "You had to. There was no way you made that code run faster without threads"
Dev2: "It runs fine in dev, but there is no way that level of threading will work in production with thousands of requests. I've got unit tests that prove our design is perfect."
Me: "I looked at what the code was doing and removed what it shouldn't be doing. That's it."
DBA: "If the database is happy with the changes, I'm happy. Good job. Get that service deployed tomorrow and lets move on"
Me: "You'll remove the recommendation for a complete re-write of the service?"
DevMgr: "Hell no! The re-write moves forward. This, whatever you did, changes nothing."
DBA: "Hell yes it does!! I've got too much on my plate already to play babysitter with you assholes. I'm done and no one on my team will waste any more time on this. Am I clear?"
Seeing the dev manager face turn red and the other two devs look completely dumbfounded was the most satisfying bug I've fixed.5
I met with the CTO of a local tech company today for a beer, at the recommendation of a friend who currently works at the company. They're looking for Software Engineers and wanted to see if I'd be a good fit.
I'm not actively looking to leave my current job, as I love it there. I was just curious to see what other opportunities were out there.
After the beer, he pretty much offered me the job on the spot for $30,000 to $40,000 more than my current salary, along with benefits. When I asked if there was any sort of technical interview, he said that this meeting was actually the technical interview, and that by the time he had finished his first beer, he could already tell that I would be a good fit. He wants me to meet with his Lead Architect and CEO soon just to see if we all click and then we'll go from there.
The only problem is that I really love my current company. I love the work, the atmosphere, the autonomy, and my coworkers. But an extra $30k to $40k per year is a lot of money.
If everything works out and they give me an official written offer, I'm going to see if my current job will counteroffer. I know my boss would happily counteroffer if he's given authorization from the higher-ups, it's just a matter of exactly how much they're able to counteroffer.19
My doctor said I open up, what better place to do it.
I've had it with this place. Gave my life and soul for a company and a man who deserves none. Worked on cheap salary thinking naively I will be taken care of later. Worked after-hours, nights, and weekends. Haven't taken more than 2 days of vacation in 2 fucking years. Worked on 10+ web application projects, took care of in-house servers, made documents for user training, coordinated meetings with clients.
I was PROMISED I would get sponsorship (H1B), but alas I was wrong, I was a total noob. Boss says the company isn't making money, and somehow it's my fault they couldn't get lucrative projects. I was assigned to 2 new projects and had to quickly fix it, which I did because our co-worker was going away for active duty. I only found out I wasn't getting sponsored when I asked about the status update last week! So, they strung me along until I was not as important to them because the pending work has been completed.
All this has led to piss poor mental and physical health, the doctor suggested I take pills or do talk therapy. I have to find another job in 15 days with sponsoring which is next to impossible. I'm not even 40% of the person I was before. I have the debt to pay, family to take care of, and just entered a relationship. I have already applied to 100+ jobs within the last 1 week with no response after I mentioned sponsorship, of course!
Also, the funniest thing is that my boss says he likes me personally, but my discipline is bad because I worked from home once, when I had a flat tire, and because I came late to an office once by 5 minutes which I apologized instantly. After I confronted him with the sponsor status, this guy says to look for other jobs and will give me a recommendation! what the fuck?! I don't need a recommendation form a piss poor lying leader who is pussy when things get difficult and cries about it. Also, If my discipline is bad why would you recommend me, isn't a recommendation a reflection of you and your statement? He is just trying to cover his tracks.
My advice is this, don't drain your mental and physical health for a company because they will never take care of you, because you are replaceable! I've lost the battle, I dislike coding now, will have to move back to my country, break up with my girlfriend and be circled around by jerk extended family members being labeled as a failure, when ironically I have the highest merit in the education of any in my extended family circle.
Additionally, I'm not going to bother going to school again to maintain my status.
I apologize for the rant and possible grammatical errors. I only wanted to write this because I don't want people to suffer as I did. There are many hardworking people who just want to be better and contribute to society, I just wanted to be a part of one.
If you read till the end, I appreciate your time.
*Also, they just hired a guy for 100K+. I know they are trying to force me out, just saying*
A frustrated dev7
The whole channel is a sub recommendation anyway, as they always publish great talks and videos for webdev and more.
Observed a full deployment the other day and discovered it's extremely inefficient. I proposed an idea to fix it, and was shot down by a senior dev on the team. I was ranting about how asinine the process was and how my process could reduce the amount of time and training required to do deployments with out any additional cost or overhead. A senior dev from another department over heard me, found my workspace and told me (in a nutshell), "write up a document about why the current process is garbage and how yours is better, and how it works, I'll review it and we'll get it worded and formatted right. When we finish the document, I'll forward it to the CTO of your department with your name on it and my recommendation for review." Fuck yeah. 😈😎7
Thus far I've had little success trying to teach code to people I know.
My best friend told me that he was serious about learning. He asked me about my recommendation would be. Against all odds, and after small demonstrations he asked to learn about Java.
I made some coffee and braced myself. Either the dude is a hidden genius or I am an amazing instructor, but he got the whole thing. I introduced him to the basics, oop, variables etc and he got it down in one session. He was able to understand errthing a do a little code along.
Upon a certain angry Germans recommendation I started getting into flutter.
Best fucking decission ever. Shit is simple and makes sense.
I ain't tagging him cuz he don't like being tagged.
But thanks man!! You know who you are!
The code makes sense, the widget tree hierarchy makes sense, knowing the native counterpart helps whenever the flutter portion ain't doing it(has not happened yet) and dart is really a good language.
The tooling is fucking genius, funny enough the emulators open quicker with vs code than android studio or xcode(fuck those two btw, 2 fucking years of hate towards them ain't going away) and building designs programatically make waaay more sense.
Flutter gave me back my hope for mobile development. This is google knowing that they fucked up Android development and fixing it and schooling IOS development for taking a good set of languages(obj c and swift) nd fucking them up with their shit way of development.
I am in love.9
!batch files. because they're stupid.
Preface: I may be drunk. If not, I'll keep trying ~
Update: no, i'm already kinda wasted.
I told @AlexDeLarge that I would try Reyka today and let him know how it is. So, let's have at it!
At the recommendation of a friend, I tried Deep Eddy (vodka) a few weeks ago. It's extremely smooth and very good. Totally recommend. I can drink it straight, or with a tiny bit of water.
The same friend also recommended Reyka, which I bought earlier today (among quite a few other things, because alcohol). Here's what I discovered:
With Reyka, I was expecting something extremely smooth and almost tasteless, but tasteless it is not. Reyka tastes halfway between vodka and a good gin, like Bombay Sapphire. It actually has a *lot* of flavor, but the vodka itself is actually pretty high quality. I haven't found anything to mix with it yet, and I don't really like it straight. I might try lemon or lemonade next.
If I was to recommend vodkas, it would be either Tito's, or Deep Eddy. (Reyka is kind of strange, so I don't know if I can recommend it yet.)
Tito's is smooth and tasty -- absolutely not a gross vodka flavor, but ... nice. All alcohols have different effects and make me feel different. Grey Goose makes me tired, Tito's makes me happy.
Deep Eddy is incredibly smooth, and has almost no taste at all. It's wonderful.
UPdte: I took awhilfe to wrte this and... I'm getting a little tooo drunkt o conitinue so i thnkg oin going to nd this rannt here. ssorry! ^^8
TL;DR: A freehoster got a redesign!
I remember when I made "my own website" in wix and sitey. It sucked working with them for me. I hated having an ad for them fixed at the bottom of my screen. I hated WYSIWYG-editors and wanted to paste my own code, a pro feature.
Sometime later I found bplaced, a free german based (also English language) hoster. And I use it for all my "official" test project. My first ever published self-coded website is still on there.. When I want to show someone what I've been working on (locally) without putting it on my domain, I use their services. They always looked oldish like from 2000 but their redesign puts them at least in 2015 :D
Give 'em a shot if you want.
Sadly, I am not paid to say this. I just really like them.4
So I found a channel on youtube that really did an amazing trailer clip and I'm looking for a similar channel, any recommendation?
Hey guys, if you have some time, can you provide feedback on a new website I launched. It aggregates online product reviews and applies AI to them.
Do you think this is a useful website? Thanks in advance!32
Hello guys... i came across this app on play store as a recommendation... and i am really impressed with it.. such a cool idea and an awesome place to rant... so i signed up and here goes my first rant... nice to meet you guys..15
The manager and selfperceived omnipotent cult leader was the worst kind of businessman. Slimey and trecherous, zero sense of ethics, but felt holier than the pope because he "helped" his weakling herd of piteous employees.
These employees were smart kids, most of them in their late teens. All of them legally disabled. There was this kid who gobbled up ritalin like candy, a boy who had received his measles shots and turned socially awkward (/s), a chubby girl who could name all the hex colors of her chocolate stained shirt... you know, what we call skilled developers in the industry.
Fiftyfive of them.
They were awesome, awkward highschool dropouts, like I had been a decade earlier. They worked 50h a week. They had great humor, were passionate, devoured information about new technologies, and they built custom websites from scratch in no time. I had to lead this flock, and felt honored to work with them.
Then things started to smell funny.
I discovered all 55 of their workstations ran pirated software, from Windows to Adobe CS. I'm not without sin in that regard, but as a company it's just plain stupid.
Clients were treated like shit. I mean, we all feel like punching a client in the face sometimes, but I'm taking about unjustified debt collections paired with death threats.
Then I found out these kids were often disappearing for a few months, only to return months later.
I started digging, and discovered they were all working reintegration internships (because they were on below minimum wage disability payments), at almost zero cost to my employer.
After 6 months, my boss gave them a negative recommendation, they were all too "sick" to function in normal jobs.
Then they were rotated to a shadow company, doing the same work for another 6 months, and so on to a third company.
He broke these kids, talked them down, made them feel worthless. He threatened the ones who understood what was happening.
I ended up bringing the company down, with the CEO and two government officials jailed for fraud and corruption.
Some employees were quite mad about it, at least at first — I was the shepherd who abandoned his sheep. Luckily, most found better paid positions in no time.
Truly one of the most fucked up and difficult situations I've been in.6
I'm gonna teach my classmate programming tried C, java, c++, HTML but still don't know how to teach it him. Since when I started and its going good he said OK I don't understand it any recommendations how to teach him programming and recommendation for a language ?8
"Any recommendation when travelling to Thailand?"
"'Well, 'Nan' is beautiful region..."
"How did you know that?!"
"Just a guess..."
Fuck GoDaddy man... Paid extra for the privacy feature thinking I wouldn't get harassed by phone. Think again! Got tons of calls from India in two days. What a rip off...
I guess they're selling our info or something...
What service do you guys use? I want to move my domains, any recommendation?19
Ticket from legal department: implement GDPR recommendation, log customer consent, separate checkboxes to opt-in to T&C and newsletter
Ticket from marketing department: small print T&C on sign-up, remove "conversion killer" checkbox
This is why we need a product owner4
why does youtube say "recommended for you" ?
for one, scrolling down the right is ALL recommendations.
and they're mostly things i've already watched or obviously related to them, so duh
I've been asked to work a Sunday next weekend; and like an idiot I agreed. Wasting a beautiful summer day inside designing software for a company to push more fast food product and contribution to obesity and diabetes in the world.
This is my life, and I hate it here. I hate this industry. In my 15 years, I once took off for 11 months and lived out of two bags through Asia and Europe. I spent 5 months with just a car driving across America. It's fun, but non-sustainable and I had to find a job afterwards both times.
I need a way out of this cycle. I need to contact professors and get letters of recommendation and get into a PhD program (I have a masters already), but finding the time after exhausting days at work is .. well .. exhausting.
The most I can do after work is go hang out with friends or do something, but if I come straight home, I just fall asleep. I'm tired all the time.6
When an application is nearly complete and suddenly there is a recommendation thrown from management to change a technical specifications . Which will change the whole cycle effort meaningless. How does that feel?! Getting it now.
Any recommendation for a decent mechanical number pad? It seems either too expensive or using knock-off keys...62
I’m really shocked at myself but as a last resort I chose Lubuntu for a light live USB environment because all others kept fucking out or lagging etc but holy shit I’m really digging Lubuntu!
Got a sweet conky setup started, Firefox quantum, some tweaks, my basic software stack and I’m almost good as gold!
Lubuntu for the recommendation! 👌🏼😁1
When a contractor that failed spectacularly on a project asks you to give them a recommendation on LinkedIn...
Just a random app recommendation.
If anyone of you haven't tried NewPipe yet, you should. Open source app for YouTube. All Google nonsense was removed and many awesome features were added (as seen below).
You can also play music with your screen turned off :)20
Hey devs, what kind of headphones would you recommend?
I'm looking for high end, but not completely audiophile grade.
My budget is in the $300-$400 range.
Wireless is preferred but not required.
And please, nothing that completely drowns me in bass :P31
My friend and I (both undergraduate) built a software to track emails for a local company (by the recommendation of my mom :D) now that is finished, it will cost $6 USD per 10,000 emails aprox. There is only one company that sells this service as a B2B, and the cost is near to $1,000 per 5,000 emails 😐. Things are always like that in the IT market?6
PM1 : "we need to implement this feature"
After days of development.
PM2 : "My recommendation is that we don't need this feature"
Can someone explain the philosophy of the "not for me" downvote?
There are many things that are "not for me" in life, but, presumably, this action executes a global downvote on the post/comment---which is pretty much an expression of "not for anyone".
If this action were to train a recommendation engine---so I get recommendations that like-minded people see---then great. But why should that result in a public downvote?
I don't go up to people in the bar and say "Drinking Guinness? Not for me, mate." As an adult, I understand that my preferences are not universal.
Personally, I can't square the idea of "not for me" with its consequence of a public downvote.
I'm sure this must have been covered before...but all rants, as physiological and emotional activities, are unique. Your rant can never be mine.5
I bought a Thinkpad E470 laptop for my wife' bday. Because she loves Linux, My first obvious choice was a Thinkpad. I chose the model from Ubuntu Certified Laptop list and installed Ubuntu 16.04 (Based on their recommendation)
THE FUCKING UBUNTU IS UNABLE TO DETECT WI-FI ADAPTOR. LIKE WHAT THE FUCK YOU WERE THINKING WHEN YOU PUT THE LAPTOP MODEL ON THAT FUCKING STUPID LIST? I WANT TO EXACTLY UNDERSTAND WHAT THE FUCK YOU WERE THINKING AND WHY YOU UPGRADED YOUR FUCKING KERNEL WITHOUT REVIEWING YOUR FUCKING LIST?
AND I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE FUCK LENOVO THOUGHT WHEN THEY RECOMMEND UBUNTU. WHY THEY STILL SELL THIS SHIT BASED ON THINKPAD' REPUTATION AND WHY THEY STILL SUGGEST THIS IS A LAPTOP FOR DEVELOPERS? NO THIS FUCKING SHITHOLE IS NOT FOR ME. IT'S DESIGNED FOR MASTERBATION WITHOUT INTERNET! BECAUSE IT'S NOT ABLE TO CONNECT TO INTERNET! YOUR MOTHER FUCKERS.
When your old boss is too lazy to write a LinkedIn recommendation for you, and tells you to write it on his behalf and then mail it to him so he can post... Hmm... 🤔2
Just a music recommendation. Maybe someone will find it suitable for flow sessions. For some reason this album reminds me of Bach organ music while being totally electronic and metal.
Linux users, do you admin your server manually or do you use any web interface tool? After getting the third server of the day running I think I need a tool to make the work faster. Do you have any recommendation? Cpanel ist pretty neat but sadly not free10
just my useless opinion - I don't think bitcoin will every see a big drop
at least, not for ten years
in reality, every bitcoin transaction you make is just a number in the blockchain, just like any other coin. but unlike other coins, bitcoin is #1, has hype in the media, etc.
bitcoin is essentially the name brand of coins. when people think crypocurrency no other name comes to mind.
ethureum, litecoin, dogecoin? nope. nada. null. nil. None. the rate at which bitcoin will increase will become even more astounding. people can now profit of it more and more mining will happen because more people want to buy.
unfortunately I didn't buy it and 5¢, nor $4000, but I don't think we'll see another >$3000 drop for a while.
as the enthusiasm around it decreases, the price will increase at a slower rate, but nevertheless, growing.
my recommendation: buy now. and even if it does go down $2000 after you buy it, it'll probably come back up. so when it's work $110,000 in 2020, I don't think the $2000 will mean as much.
just my two cents.
I'd love to head some other opinions.16
I recommend the writing of e-mail templates as an alternative to frequently writing similar e-mails; I have found that this is a good method of saving time.5
I use fucking GoDaddy to manage my domains, just cause, whatever, who cares, right, it's a domain manager, they do have great support.
But everytime I login and try to find a domain, it's like 8 clicks and they try to push their website builder in your face and all kinds of shit.
Can I get a recommendation from a trusted devranter? I want to switch.
I use forge if that matters...
Gotta make a decision matrix like the one in the picture. It's for a recommendation report concerning whether or not to distribute laptops to the CSCE students at my university and what kind of laptop if so.
I need help determining the weights for my matrix, because my personal preferences may not reflect the majority. As a programmer, how would you weigh the following three (very broad) categories?
Power(CPU, GPU, memory, HDD, I/O, etc..)
Quality (Durability, material, aesthetics, etc..)
Comfort(Weight, size, shape, keyboard, screen-eye comfort, OS familiarity, etc..)
Please write an integer 1-10 in the following format:
Power/Quality/Comfort ex: 7/4/9

So lately I am learning about APIs and REST/ful architecture (I'm a plain beginner). I must say it's very interesting.
I find this website very very helpful as a practical implementation of the theory I've been consuming. I'd truly appreciate any recommendation on the subject.
Public Service Request to Users from Tokyo and those with good knowledge in buying keyboards.
Which retail shop sell tenkeyless mechanical keyboard such as HyperX Alloy FPS Pro? With English words not Japanese 😬
I can't find it at my country and my gf is currently at Tokyo for a training, so.
On further note, I'm looking for a keyboard with following requirements. Would appreciate your recommendation.
- without numpad
- standard qwerty layout (US/UK)
- backlit (any color, as long as keys are visible in dark)
- USB wired
- easy to clean and maintain
- must last for more than 3 years13
So, yesterday I made a post asking for a recommendation on what to give my boyfriend for Valentine’s Day (He is a programmer and starting to learn how to develop video games) I gave him a Wacom, two online courses for Unity in Udemy, and, a portable coffee maker (since he previously complaint about the coffee in his office) What do you guys think? 😎5
"But using XYX is better and it's not hard to set up!"
No, fuck you and your recommendations.
It's too time consuming to set up that blazing-fast minimalistic modular shit, because I know I'll want to configure it to perfection until I bang my head against my tiny keyboard when I have finally realised that all the config I went througu only achieved the same outcome as the 'bloated' software I was originally using.
So, fuck you.
I'd rather get on with my life and get some work done.
It's not like I wasn't aware of XYZ in the first place; I'm not using it because I know what's more important to get my shit done.3
Another music recommendation.
It is time for some stoner. I like this album for its both stonerly relaxing but also somewhat energizing flow.
I do mobile apps, started with iOS and now focusing on Android as well. Planning to focus on machine learning in the near future. Any of you have a good recommendation on where to start ?13
Got inspired by Ewin Tang's paper on figuring out a classical computer algorithm for recommendation systems inspired by quantum computers and started to write up an email to a professor in some Quantum research I'm interested in doing. As a high school student, it's VERY daunting to start. Been researching the prof and I'm super excited but it's nerve racking! Like what if she doesn't even open her research projects to high school students and I'm wasting my time? In case, I am planning on asking if there is anyone else I should contact. I'm focused on doing this research with McMaster since it's nearby but I'm really doubting myself. People my age who do this stuff are phenomenal and I feel like I wouldn't live up to that. You guys are probably a lot more experienced in this so if you've got any advice or tips, let me know.
Thinking about dual booting a Linux OS on my PC do you have any recommendations on what to use? I'm used to windows and want to dabble into Linux for curiosity's sake ☺️26
Interesting password recommendation here...
- A form with to fields: Surname and password.
- Below the form is a text: "For signup please enter your name and a password (e.g. your email address). With your name and password you can change your data anytime and may get access to the memberlist."
Bonus: There is a "help"-button (outside of the cutting) which even *recommends* the use of the email-address as the password!
Extra bonus: The password field is a normal text one.
IF THE EMAIL ADDRESS HAS TO BE SUBMITTED, WHY NOT JUST ADD ANOTHER FIELD OR AT LEAST LABEL THE FIELD CORRECTLY!
Update: After this form, you get to another form, to enter you email address...3
I think some of my co-workers see me as real life human version of Google search engine.
Hope they would understand that just because I'm little bit more up to date in tech knowledge and an accidental Google nerd doesn't make me a know it all..
But i understand their tendency to trust my recommendation over their googling skills
They want me to find
1- best freelancing website
2- best platform or service for someone who wants to do online teaching
Results that I'm aware of:
1- freelancer, guru, upwork
2- YouTube, udemy, Pluralsight, skillshare, thinkific
Any other recommendations?2
Can anyone recommend an Android app for blocking notifications from a specific app during, for example, non working hours? Context: we use Telegram as a communication channel, but it's often used outside of work hours too by some colleagues. I wanna be updated during work hours, but want my peace after and before. I'm using Android 6, and haven't found a way to do this natively yet.5
After working my asses off for months, I asked my mentor for a LinkedIn recommendation at the end of my internship. The response:
"Write the recommendation by yourself and send to me. I'll edit as required and make it look like an official recommendation letter from *company name*"
Felt bad, I just shouldn't have asked for it. 🤔7
What would be your recommendation to Code in c++ to challange him besides a fcking Hello World Program.8
Got an assignment last year to use a buffer overflow to "hack" a series of problems within some kind of assembly code. There were 2 required problems, but 6 in total. I completed all 7 (one hidden bonus problem).
The teacher that gave that assignment ended up writing me a letter of recommendation for my masters program
I will never work on something interesting within a company, it's always going to be either making a site for donuts or some recommendation system type of capitalistic bullshit.
Maybe, I could become a PM and do category theory at work instead of drinking coffee at the balcony2
Recommendation for mobile css queries?
I want to use one or two queries. Not more. And I find lists of way too many.
Is there a guide that covers like.. two? Two additional widths you should design? How do you do responsive webdesign?6
Developers in need 2016 appeal.
With just one recommendation of an IDE with syntax highlighting, you can change the life of a needy developer.
Together we can bring an end to semicolon hunting.
Let's stop the madness now.6
Not so much of a rant but recommendation.
Have been listening to a completely epic Spotify playlist all day today whilst coding - "RetroWave / Outrun".
It's really good for keeping my concentration :)10
This is !dev as fuck but does anyone know something like a book recommendation engine? There are a ton for movies and anime, but couldnt find a good one for books. The best would be one where i input some books and fonds me similar ones.
Alternatively, im looking for dark fantasy books where magic is negligible and potentially has assassins in it, if anyone knows good ones.11
Hey all! M gonna b buying a new laptop for programming.
I need something with like 16 gigs RAM, decent processor, SSD.
I can't buy thinkpad because well... It shud have been ~$750 but in my country, it costs $1200. And that is for the 8GB RAM config... E470... 570 isn't even available.
Hence since the lack of laptops without dedicated GPU but high configs, I basically can find 2 options:
So I wanna ask what would you guys prefer? I code in C/C++ pretty much exclusively. And I definitely like butter smooth functioning of OS.
If it ain't a MacBook, i'll b using Arch Linux.
Finally, I live in india.
So... Which one do I pick? And if u have a recommendation, I m open for that too. It shud just have good specs BUT NO DEDICATED GPU.
What do you do in an instance when a family member uses windows to use quickbooks on a decades old company file, and feels landlocked to Windows, but his computer is always getting taken hostage because you know... Windows... and the only good recommendation you can even come up with is to upgrade to Windows 10 and keep it up to date, when you know Windows 10 is disgustingly invasive of privacy and it won’t really solve the problem because windows is always going to be an infested mess?
I seriously am at a cross roads here. I’ve pushed the rest of my family to use Linux, and the few that wouldn’t are mostly on Mac...10
(disclaimer: this might sound like a 13 year old guy just coming out from a theater after watching matrix but in some ways, its not )
Why the fuck should i feel discouraged from getting into ml/ai by all these smart ass people continuously taunting that "yeah, you might get into ml/ai but you won't get successful if you have a bad maths"
Ok, 1) i totally agree with these guys. Checked some pages and everywhere itse regression ,linear something, nlp's and neural networks, which even by the name sounds full of maths. BUT here is a thing:
1) All i can think of this as an ocean: just like web development is so vast, android is so vast, i can assume this to be so vast too.
BUT I WANT TO APPLY IT, NOT MAKE IT! why? Because that's what a beginner would do. It's data "sciences" and ppl who are deep into it will be called data "scientist" , a fuckin doctorate profession!
And toda i see it at so manypaces : from alexa playing song to google searches , youtube recommendation, hell even coffe machines are getting smarter!
I like these things and want to apply them as a developer to my apps and websites. But tell me, do everyone making a scanner or search engines learns regression algorithms and lambda calculas?
I love automation. So much that if given a chance, i would make robot to fuckin suck me off! From smart searches , self driving cars, map routes to latest apps with awesome pattern recognitions, i love them all. What i want to do is to look at some codes, tweak them for my usage and make something extraordinary and automated machine learning from ussr's interaction. I don't think my interest to learn applications of a technology and not the technology itself should be considered wrong because both are a carreer in their own! Learning ml/ai vs learning their applications is like a learning physics vs learning furniture designing: one being a part of other but completely existential on its own .
Thus the question comes what should i do? I got attracted by ML's achievements and fireworks but every ml course wants me to be the cracker maker! I want to get into data sciences bcz of its achievements ; and i want to replicate them again nd again until get termed as a professional nd if i feel the urge, maybe re visit my collage books and read maths and get into nlp designing (or whatever)
Where to get knowledge of this "life automation technologies" / data sciences (if they both are rea equal) and knowledge of such "ml toolkits" , if its really possible to be into ml without maths?8
Which cloud hosting provider do you use or prefer and why?
I've been using Digital Ocean for two years, but I'm thinking about switching to AWS or Google, because two friends of mine recommended them. For me, at least AWS, feels way more complicated than DO. But if they are clearly better, I will switch. What's your recommendation, if you have any?
Thanks a lot!11
With the recommendation of some from here I went ahead and set up the Material Theme on my IntelliJ and I have to say, looks pretty sweet!6
Oh crap seems like we will switch our automation from java to python.
Any recomendation to good recources or books to start with python?4
I'm looking for a game recommendation to play with my (non-gamer) dad
What I'm looking for:
- Online 1vs1
- Turn based (async)
- Lightweight if possible (my dad's phone is kind of old).
Something like checkers or chess but not checkers or chess :)8
I feel shit atm due to grandmother getting bad music so I need some music to make my mind clear.
Come at me. With anything maybe I can start coding at the same time to.12
Logs in to client office 365.
Big recommendation at the top
"Disable password auto expiry, it's currently set to 90 days"
Why is this a recommendation? I suppose there's an argument that making a user change every now and again will weaken their passwords over time, but really?2
I'm starting to think that I could listen to some podcasts while I work, to learn things in the background.
Would you recommend good podcasts?
I'd like to listen to software dev good practices, or real life dev stories to learn from. Also videogame dev related would be good too.6
We had a tutorial on how to use spark/Hadoop.. part of the tutorial was the installation instructions for Ubuntu vms.
The Prof insisted we used an older version of Hadoop (v2.1.5), so naturally this required pulling older repos and older versions of java.
Naturally, some of the people in the class got some namespacing issues and garbage left from uninstalled packages.
Now, the tutorial was geared towards business/math people, not com sci. So most of the people didn't understand why apt didn't let them run certain commands (even though it very clearly just asked for them to run autoremove or autoclean, like in the "error message"). When the Prof and their "experienced TA" saw these messages, their recommendation was "make a new fresh vm".
The fuck? I heard that, run over and was like no. Just run the suggested command, it's literally a simple issue. And the guy didn't believe me. I had to sit him down, show him how I literally typed what the console was asking for, and everything just worked... The guy's response was "well that's Linux for you, its really complicated and can never trust anything, this time it worked, but next time it might not". Dude... Do you even know what you are saying? Like you are a supposed expert, least have some understanding of the package manager you are using. Maybe things will then be less "schrodinger cat".
God damn I can't wait to be out of this stupid fucking school. Never going back to academia.1
I actually enjoy coding php in Brackets...
If anyone has got any other recommendation for anything else (free and open source!) feel free to tell me, but dang, that's how to spend an evening.11
That feel when a customer denies writing you a service review (only one sentence), because her website went offline one time. We're not even the hoster of the website. She decided in not paying more for a more professional hoster, even after our recommendation. We even spent time resolving the issue with the hoster without charging that blonde fuck our rates. Don't I just love working for customers 🙂2
I got a bug on production that I cannot reproduce on our testing environment. It bothers me a lot because I’m putting a lot of man hours finding it. Do you guys have any recommendation how to ”attack” the issue? Unfortunately I cannot debug the code.11
Me: Allright, now all that's left is to bring it down to the basement.
Grandmother: yeah, but not today.
M: Why not?
G: Because I feel exhausted.
M: I would bring it down get bring it down for you
G: No, I feel exhausted
And I feel exhausted by your constant inability to listen when there's minimal stress and an opinion / recommendation that slighly differs from yours.
I shit you not, when I asked her to repeat my offer she had no idea what I just had offered...1
Giving a tensorflow workshop and the thing people struggle the most is the Linear Algebra behind it... it is only gradients in tensor and some matrix multiplication.
My recommendation is: do you want to work with Deep Learning algorithms? Y'all need Linear Algebra, not PhD, just a bit!
Alright, after 7 months with Ubuntu Budgie I'd like to try a new distribution.
I really enjoyed Ubuntu Budgie and I am thinking to pick Manjaro next.
Any recommendation? What distribution are you using guys?10
This is a rant to myself. I am an international postgraduate student studying in Australia, and after the first year study, I got an internship in a local IT company. That's good indeed, not everyone can get recommendation from the uni, however, I feel so stressful. Because my English skill is not good enough, I hardly used any English before I came to Australia. Thought I have no problem in technical conversation, I often fail to keep up with my local colleagues' daily conversation. Sometimes I have to "Pardon?" for several times, that's embarrassed and makes me frustrated:/
But when I am chating with my local friend, I perform more better. Hmmm... Any suggestion? I really want to improve my English, specially listening skill of understanding what native speakers are saying.4
I'm looking for a good JIRA app for Android. I've been using JIRA in Motion, but it lacks flexibility.1
i had past nightmares with ubuntu but i still want to stay away from windows, any recommendation?16
Can someone tell how does Instagram load images so fast without any delays ?
Because i'm planning to enhance my application performance as much as i can5
Hate it when I'm sincerely interested in a subject, proceed to ask someone who knows about it expecting to get an interesting conversation, a recommendation where to learn more o something, and all I get is a fucking generic answer which seems to be taken from a FAQ, and even worst, that isn't even related to what I asked 😑1
For all those who lurk here and enjoy other people's misfortune - you might enjoy the subreddit justnomil
It's about horrible mother inlaws (and sometimes just mothers) and is great fun to read and get riled up about3
As we're sitting like nearly all day, my sit is like dead.. I was wondering if some (tall) people have recommendation about good sit ?
I'm not living US so please, don't give me Walmart references. :p
Need Recommendation : Reader.
Planning to start reading again after quite some time.
What's the simplest(cheapest) reader can I go for?
-Should not strain eyes.
-Don't need any fancy feature (not even WIFI or market place)
-I do already have epubs of most books that I want to read.
-Should be able to bookmark
-while a built-in dictionary & light would be great, its not a necessity.
Dont want to get something higher end unless I get:
- Improved pdf experience.
- Hassle free way to read manga/comics. (mainly manga)7
My previous employer went bust.
As soon as it was announced, I got flooded by e-mails, messages and calls with job proposals. I went through a lot of interviews, half of which were interrupted by the potential employer, and half by me.
In the end, after a good recommendation and a short 1h interview, I got hired by my current employer, in a rush that made me quit the old company before my contract ran out due to it being bust.
Now if someone I worked with recognize this story, I say to you: Hiya! And probably congrats to reaching the same island as me :) all devs from all departments were absorbed into this company.
Hi the community!
Do you have any recommendation to start learning about artificial intelligence?
I would like to build a bot like http://uxchat.me/ but who also need more complex action, like image recognition with OpenCV maybe.
Any book, link will be appreciated2
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good mobile development conference to go to in the US? I'm able to pick one to go to next year but i don't wanna get stuck with a bunch of companies just pushing their products. I want to actually learn something useful. Unfortunately it seems that most conferences are centered around one platform but I don't really have a preference...4
YouTube... for video creation.
Now I know I was a really amateurist video maker trying to make tutorials and videos about his coding creations in Mugen (you know, CNS state controllers and stuff,...), but this is the kind that's hard to get views from if you don't have a reach long enough to appear in search pages. I've had fun tagging my videos with plenties of tags just so they appear someday as a relevant result. EVEN in search pages for videos in the week, they barely appear and are sunk under videos of your Nth Mugen KOF clone with broken chars, Mugen ryona, Mugen hentai,... Speaking of which, did you know someone got to one of my videos from one of these?! How does YouTube's recommendation system work at this point?!
In the meantime (more like recently), I've been more interested in Ikemen, still kinda Mugen, still a DSL for a game engine, but still fascinating and there's material for tutorial making. But if I ever went back on video making, that won't be on YouTube. I'll just stick on Twitter and Discord if I were to share my content. At least, I got people following me there and a base visibility over there to start with. I could consider forums as well, why not, but YouTube is a no-go for me now.3
Any recommendation for a programming monitor? I have seen cool setups here with long vertical rectangle-ish screen .What do you call it?🤔7
Looking to get into networking and security to help with my code in general. Any of you dev have a good recommendation book wise?3
I want to have pong board on a big screen and users connecting to it using their mobile.
I know I need to learn websockets, anything else? Any recommendation? The simple as possible with less third party libraries as necessary so I can actually full understand it. Its mostly for my own learning :)
Google experiments has a nice list of examples but no tutorials:
I'm currently mostly learning web dev, but do you guys have any book recommendations for other fields of programming. Perhaps something low-level or something like distributed systems. Everything goes.
So we have duplicate code because dumb devs thinks Bootstrap (4) is kick-ass for mobile. 😒 Can't do jack with their tables.
I told them to use Flexbox instead. Bootstrap (even 4) is antiquated and there's better options.
My recommendation is to use Flexbox Grid with React to build a modular living style guide with built in unit testing for styles and interactions.
Basically got told that my opinion is just an opinion and is the same as using Bootstrap. 😭
Anyone have some solid "facts" on Bootstrap I can use in the long run? We haven't even launched anything and we're already in technical debt because of this stupid framework decision. Someone please help. 😞3
[ WEBDEV frontend QUESTION ]
I will need to build a new admin dashboard for representing a lot of data from the api. the API is written in PHP and this won't change. We are currently using jquery to make the data interactive (choose date ranges, different filters and so on). Were currently using morris.js for charts. I'm thinking this would be a good opportunity to learn and use a new js framework to make the data more easily bindable on buttons and selects (not so many listeners on buttons and shit like that).I will be developing the front end on my own, alone, so i mostly have freedom here. I need something that has implementations of chart rendering, and which I could learn in a week or two in the evenings after work (starting to work on this in the next week probably). What are your guys recommendation? Whats the best option for dashboards js wise? I was thinking vue, won't I shoot myself in the foot for using a new technology(for me anyway) right from the bat?2
I've been an android/anti-ios person for around a decade and im now seriously considering switching to ios when the new iphones land. My mother is an apple nut and my brother is on android and everytime i bring up even the slightest nitpick about ios or macos (such as the fact that the "always use this application" checkbox on macos does not work or that you have to upload music through itunes) they jump on the "wtf then why would even consider it??????" train. In short its because ios seems at least a little bit more stable overall (havent had much experience with ios in general this is really more of a first impression). Well I got a replacement LG V20 just over a year ago and it has not aged well, had to replace the battery because i barely got 4 hours with minimal usage, even when i got the thing it was rather jittery, and its just now getting oreo (and surely wont be getting pie). Hell i was removing several apps earlier and it took a solid 4 MINUTES to uninstall an icon pack. After some investigation into the ios ecosystem i found that all the apps that i would need are on there so that was great. What im really hoping for though is some stability/longevity, im ok with paying around 1000 for a phone if it lasts a while and stays in decent shape. Finally the fact that the updates are sparing at best (with the exception of pixel phones) is a great annoyance whereas my mothers (around 4 years old) ipad is rocking ios 11. Could someone who has made the leap make a recommendation? I love android but i feel like all i would accomplish is buying another phone that craps out after less than a year.7
Need a book recommendation:
What is the best textbook on compilers for _beginners_? I am an entry level dev from a non-CS background and I have _zero_ knowledge of compilers.4
The best part about professors is that they ask you to come on a specific day for the recommendation but when you reach there you’re in for a surprise. Suddenly the WiFi goes away and there are departmental reviews. Wtf. This they can’t tell the day before... bloody hell knowing that you’re coming from far... away ... they’ll test you that you your patience so much that you keep wishing they die a very bad death or say under a bridge! Man o man such is life !
I'm starting a little side project (a web app for finding/booking musicians) and have to decide which language to use for the backend. I have broad experience with Java and C#, but it would also be nice to learn something new (Kotlin? Go? Rust?)
Additionally, what's your recommendation for databases? (SQL vs. NoSQL vs. ...)
For the frontend, I'd like to use typescript, webpack and Vue.js.
Any thoughts? ;)8
I just disabled 2 recommendation notifications from Google Map and Photos...
My first thought is Google is turning into Facebook. My next read Google knows too much... But what can I do...
It's also very convenient... when it's not data mining the data it stores...
Hi folks! Help me in choosing a laptop thinkpad e470(i5, 4gb ram, hdd) or dell vostro similar specs and plus more feature. Budget around 650$
Thinkpad or Vostro or your recommendation.. My preference is coding stuff, android studio, no gaming8
I am building a side project to build a recommendation system for research papers. Since it's my first attempt, any tips? Also, my plan is to get it in the cloud, build a separate webpage to summon data from it. Honestly, most of it is three-fourths imagination, one-fourth google queries. The cloud idea is solely to provide it means to train real time.
I plan on using Python for this, other than the html/css frontend.
As someone who is very new to such a project, what should I know before I start?
Do you guys read any journals (like ACMs "Journal of Experimental Algorithmics" or ACMs "Queue") or technical magazines (like Oracles "Java Magazine" or "Arstechnica")? If so, which is your favorite or which do you recommend? Curious to hear your suggestions 😉5
External Storage recommendation questions.
Im in need of some sort of external storage, either a harddrive or a NAS server, but idk what to get.
Price should be reasonable for the security and storage space it gives, so heres what i figured so far for pros and cons:
+ Bigger capacity
+ Raid option
+ Easily expandable
+ Always accessible via the network (local)
- Difficult to transport (not gonna do that, but still)
- Physically larger
- Consumes power 24/7 (i dont pay for power currently)
+ Easy to pack away and transport
- If drive fails, youre fucked
- If you want larger capacity, you end up with two external backups
What do you guys do? Im not sure what i should do :i
Any advice is appreciated.
It will be used for external backup, as mentioned. For my server and my own pc.12
In high school I had a digital media class, where we mostly learned Adobe design software and video editing and whatnot, but one project was to actually code using Programming (the software) and I loved it. Later that year I used a free project in the class to learn arduino per my teachers recommendation. Absolutely loved every second of that project, and have been coding ever since.
Need recommendation on which server side language/framework to use along with my new react native app.
A long time ago I got an idea for an Internet concierge shopping service that would pair you up with a human to help you comparison shop anything. Obviously this was before AI or the kind of tech we’re used to now. The idea was that the help of a real live person to help you track down deals was better than some of the emerging product recommendation engines I was researching. I figured I’d at least make a short term business out of it until tech caught up. So I built the site, DB, and business logic and recruited my bargain-hunting wife to help people find good buys. It worked ok, but wasn’t easy to monetize because people wanted her help for free rather than pay any kind of fee. Their perception was they weren’t saving a substantial amount if they had to pay someone to help them. Of course, our pitch was that by paying someone to help them, they might avoid paying more by trying it on their own.
It was an interesting experiment anyways.1
Addicted to Visual Studio for past 10 years. Looking out for IDE which can be an alternative on Linux...
Any recommendation of IDE for a Linux Noob ?11
Any recommendation (super) thin laptop under $1000?
I think of lenovo yoga, but I don't need the touch screen, and I think it's just upping the price.17
I want to build a industry grade recommendation system. Total users are 1M and total items are more than 100M. Conversion events are item consumption in form of view time and view.
Can you suggest me how to build or some step by step tutorial to build full fledged recommendation system5
My recommendation for people who really want to learn Python as their main tool:
The serie 'Python 3: Deep dive (1,2,3)' is avaible on udemy and you will be taught about Python by a master of his kind. The teacher is also a mathematician, he really enjoys the beauty of python as a language and I have the feeling that he wants to inspire me to love the language, too.
In about 120 hours of learning material you will not learn about frameworks in order to earn quick money but the core features of the language and how things work behind the curtain.
Many courses of udemy may be trash but these are really treasures for uni students like me.
Am I doing something wrong in integrating bootstrap into my web design.
I'm just making some cool looking password reset forms and stuff.
1. Is it overkill?
2. Is there a better alternative?
3. Any good tutorials to understand bootstrap better than what I do know? (afaik it's just a collection of html elements and css styles)
4. I still have a problem with auto padding at different resolutions which messes up the alignments and stuff I'm really inexperienced at this.
5. I'm a noob at web UI and I want to add it to my skill set so I don't mind a good recommendation to some sort of path I can follow. (I'm alright with Photoshop concept designs, I'm bad at implementing them)4
Looking for a recommendation on what I should use to code on my phone.
I own an iPhone and usually spend a lot of time on public transit. I thought that it would be better to spend that time coding or learning something new. I am semi experienced in programming and this would help me get better as well.
Any recommendations on any app (possibly free) that I could download to kinda allow me to code and learn at the same time?5
I'm looking for a VPN-Service.
Mullvad vs Tunnelbear.
Do you have any experience/recommendation? Or maybe another service altogether?2
Just finished binge watching salvation in two days. One of the best series I watched in the last year. I highly recommend it. Although the technical aspect is unrealistic af.
Hi, is anyone using Thinkpad E470?
Do you like it or it's waste of money?
Maybe sobie ideas for fancy 14' laptop?5
Does anyone familiar with overclocking Ryzen non-x cpu? I had a Ryzen 7 2700 with gigabyte B450 motherboard. The core voltage locks to 0.9v after clock ratio set to 34 from auto (3.2GHz). But on auto, the vcore is around 1.38v, which is close to max recommendation. Why?9
Low code platforms. I've been studying them for a few months now and have been really surprised what one can do with them. Very productive stuff for many things even if not for everything. A wholehearted recommendation.
Recommendation for what type of html5 templates to search in order to define a description of a project. Simple 5 tabs with a login panel for pdf access.2
Sophomore year starting soon so I'm looking for new project (s) to complete in parallel with the studies.
Some are more design-y and some more backend-y but I recently started getting better at designing so :)
1) Learn some fragment shader stuff. I've always been messing around with graphics and have a game on steam, so I think that's a good idea to be paired with signal processing.
2) Reactive web services. Preferably with spring-boot or vert.x but
3) I would also like to dive into golang (and make some reactive thing with it)
4) WebAssembly seems nice... But I got some concerns
5) exercise making wireframes -> CSS (with some js)
6) I've never really done any real backed work with nodejs, except serving and aot compiling js, or doing gulp tasks
7) Implementing a whole project, or a fraction of it as serverless on aws
* I'm definitely going to use a couple very simple services to make a docker swarm with load balancing, etc, just because I know how everything works but got no practical knowledge
8) Design an esports jersey for the university department I'm in (shouldn't take long)
So what do you guys think? Recommendations are welcome :)
P.S. last year in review:
> A webapp running on a raspberry pi powering a reflex testing game on gpio (java/spring-boot , codename: buttonmasher)
> small Elastic search cluster to monitor some random university servers through kibana dashboards
> laser tracking on wall of *any* colour and variable light conditions via a webcam (opencv) , controlling the mouse pointer, whether you run it against a projector or any wall
> Various random Photoshop stuff
Do you more experienced devs have any recommendations for books/online courses etc. about design pattern or "What is good code" - principals?
I need some recommendation for Web UI components framework which could be relativity easily integrated/used on Play framework web application.
Something like Primefaces or old Richfaces (but those are for JSF).
Thanks in advance. :)2
I need recommendation for site/community to improve my (clean) code style?
And, in more general, what are your ways to improve code style and programming way of thinking - more oriented towards bigger picture of application/systems (patterns, architecture, etc.)?3
