Search - "adblocker"
When one of those "Your windows has been infected, click here to remove virus now" ads slips through the adblocker while I'm on my Linux3
No I will not disable my AdBlocker to view your content.
I'll just disable JS in browser.
Alright, I just wanna start off by saying that I'm a huge privacy guy. I hate all kinds of data collection companies like Google/Facebook/Amazon and all that. Yet I'm forced to have a Google account for certain reasons.
But the thing that I want to say is that I often talk to people to express my concerns about privacy. And most people agree and say that "yeah sure that's some scary shit" but don't actually do much about it.
And the thing is. If you just browse through all of the options in your Google account. You can turn off and remove almost all data collection/ad serving and identification options entirely.
And yet purple complain about that Google sees what you buy and shit. Turn everything off. Get and adblocker and get noscript. The single best browser add-on out there. It's almost that easy to get at least acceptable amounts of Internet privacy.
Please, don't ever ignore the significance of in Internet privacy. And the potential issue of net neutrality. Don't be ignorant. Don't be the client.24
Drop ur file here to convert it to another file type
10 mins later after conversion
"Sorry but u can't convert ur file cause u got an adblocker enabled pls disable it and try again"
Have u guys ever whipped ur dick out and smacked the monitor with ur dick with hope that ur dick smack will transmit the smack into the website across their face9

2018: Adblocker, Anti Adblocker, Block Anti Adblocker, Anti Block Block Anti Adblocker.
Today I found the reason for one of the stupidest bugs I had in like.. ever!
Me and a fellow student are currently porting the infoscreen of our university to HTML.
One of the functions of this screen is showing payed advertising and I was working on loading and displaying the images of our advertisment partners.
I had the whole system in place, and the images loaded.. but they wouldn't show. Upon inspection I saw they were displayed but with a size of 0x0 px.
..and then I saw it. A little note in Chromes inspector saying the image style would be set by my user-agent. Despite not trusting that information, I closely inspected my browser.
And then it dawned on me.. I would turn my adblocker off and lo and behold.. it worked!
I then, after celebrating my triumph, changed the tag of the img element from 'advert' to something else…3
Being majestic as a web developer:
1. Hacking through the DevTools to remove the anti-AdBlocker overlay + vertical scrolling paralysis on news website
2. See point 116
The balls some managers must have to think that this is going to be an acceptable price.
I also find it hilarious that a $2 adblocker can fuck this in the ass.19
I opened chrome devtools and it was 300 requests and 10MB to read 500 words.
Another news portal 250 requests 7MB to see 300 words.
And they’re fighting with internet traffic by lowering movie quality ?
I just add I have pihole with lots of wildcard filters filtering half of internet and fucking adblocker and those numbers are after those filters.
Are you fucking out of your mind ?
Why even bother with article sites now? Try to search for a quick answer to a question and the only resource is some article and the user is met with:
- "Hi, here's where all your data goes. Please unsubscribe from our 937 partners and continue."
- "It looks like you're using adblocker. Mind whitelisting us for the 2 minutes we're in your life for? "
- "Before we show you the single sentence answer you're looking for let us promote our shitty content that you'll never click on because we hired the guy who makes shady porn links on every z-list site possible."
- "This article is in multiple parts to spread ad revenue. Click next to continue."
There's probably an extension that stops most of this but christ, it shouldn't be this bad.9
So, I need to... enable cookies to... disable cookies? Did I get that right?
(wired[.]com btw. My steadily rising adblocker-counter should have made me leave that pile of shit way sooner than I did anyway)7
*30 sec full screen ad* OR "please turn off your adblocker and refresh"
"Would you like to take a survey?"
"You've reached your free articles for the month. Please subscribe!"
Jesus fucking Christ! Is it such a sin to read articles in peace? How does anybody use your shitty site. How does anybody PAY for your shitty site?! Fuck your articles. Why do companies think this is a good model?!5
TL;DR: No YouTube Music! Fuck you.
Disclaimer: I could use an Adblocker but my old one always crashed and YouTubes Ads are short and not that bad - mostly just banners in the video player.
Rant: Yes google, I AM listening to music on youtube. I am your target audience for YouTube Music. But I am NOT interested.
You see, I wouldn't listen to music on YouTube if I had the spare money for Spotify, Apple Music or some other stupid overpriced service that gives the actual artists not enough of what they charge.
And giving me the same ad over and over again just annoys the fuck out of me. I DON'T WANT FUCKING YOUTUBE MUSIC. I am not interested in a free trial. I am not interested in buying it.
The most stupid thing is that Google provides a dislike and like button for ads. I pressed dislike so often yet it still comes up. GOOD QUALITY!
Why on earth is every fucking big company lost in copying every shit that others make and that has success? Where is my loved innovative Valve?! The innovative Google? They all just crave for fucking money making stuff. As if they still needed more...14
Lots of oof in one image.
I like how they had the audacity to say (and I fucking quote): "this is good news!"
I don't like to complain about sites generating revenue. I understand it is important and I even feel morally obligated not to use an adblocker. But all I will say is that the site has sustained itself for a very long time without the use of poor-quality and unrelated ads, and this feels like a lot more of a money grab than something the site actually requires.
Anyways, happy to see a -400 score on it. And I guess I can't wait to get Amazon ads on SO.7
I really like how Opera Mini says it has an AdBlocker implemented, yet the app 'Contains Ads' according to Google. Guess it's not an effective blocker.8
Soft paywall is "forcing" me to see their site in dark-theme because I have adblocker on.
I was BORN in this briar patch!3
That ironic feeling I get when I block an anti-adblocker popup/warning thingy with an adblocker...5
Semi rant/ opinion
I have been wondering a bit about what my fellow devs think about adblockers
I have been using an adblocker for years.
I am guessing we got a good mix of both people who are pro and against them
I do get the site's owner point of view wanting to get a little bit of cash out of their site buts its the ad publisher that come in and royally screw things up with their garish flashy shit.
I wouldn't really mind 2-3 small static adverts on a page, little ones that don't disrupt the flow of the page or clash with the page colour scheme (i know that one is a bit far fetched but anyone who loaded up a dark page in the comfort of a darkened room only to have a big bright ad turn up in the middle of the page force them to squint ). Sadly publishers don't give a damn, their only concern is to
GRAB YOUR ATTENTION...
FLASHY FLASH FLASH MOFO!
OH AND HERE IS AN AUDIO ENABLED ONE FOR YA, GOOD LUCK MUTING IT YOU POOR SHMUCK , ONE CLICK ON THE DAMN THING WILL TAKE YOU TO THE LAND OF POP-UPS
AH YOU WANNA DOWNLOAD SOMETHING BUDDY ? AH WELL I HOPE YOU LIKE INDIANA JONES' SCENE WITH HOLY GRAIL
CUZ HERE ARE 10 DOWNLOAD BUTTONS, ONE IS THE REAL THING THE REST WILL ARE TOOLBARS
They are the biggest culprit here yet moan the loudest about adblockers.
Sort yourselves out then complain to us about ad blocking6
I don't understand privacy advocators.
Am I the only one who wouldn't give up practicality in exchange for "potentially more secure"?
I don't understand so much what the deal is with people who avoid Facebook, or don't trust Google or Microsoft, just in the basis of "privacy" or "security".
Websites tracking you to serve ads? Well, it's pointless because I very rarely buy something from the internet or let myself be influenced, ads are waste of time, just use an adblocker.
I can pretty much upload my whole life or documents on Google drive, even if I made it public no one would really care or read it all. It's like that GitHub project you uploaded but never documented, so no one cares. I usually use alternative software not because of "privacy" but because it has features other software doesn't have.
In reality you realize people aren't that interested in your life more than their own life.24
Guess who just read content off a site out of browser dev tools because the page displayed an intrusive 'whitelist us from your adblocker' modal6
Perk of being a web developer.
When a website tries to hide its content behind a pop-up become I have an ad-blocker. I can "display:none" that stuff away.4
This pisses me off soooo fucking much.
"We're sowwy but we'll have to ask you to turn off your pretty little adblocker! We can't keep making money off of you by showing you stuff you don't want to see if you don't turn off your adblocker! But it's okay, who doesn't use an adblocker? Just turn it off for our site pleeeease"
Quit it with the quasi-friendly bullshit. If it's okay, why don't you fuck off and let me block whatever I want to block? It's ridiculous how many hoops I have to jump through just so I don't have to see ads on the internet. Even pi-hole doesn't help with this anymore. Now I need an Ad Blocker Blocker Blocker just so I don't have to wade through heaps of obnoxious ads every time I visit a page. It's so goddamn stupid.10
fuck wordpress... Got a request to improve wordpress site speed + pagespeed score. 20-30 plugins, 15 or more additional ones off. Improved the score and noticed that my adblocker is blocking a lot of urls. Sure enough theres a hidden iframe in the bottom with 10 ad network scripts and bidding get requests. Someone is making ad revenue from this shit.. wtf. I've only had problems with shitty wordpress sites being hacked for some reason. It's always a shitty experience. Any tips on fixing hacked wordpress sites?5
Today I flew from London to Glasgow and had to carry my laptop in my suitcase since I don't have a proper laptop bag. Was extremely nervous the whole time even though I cushioned it as much as possible. Then I get home and on CSS tricks I see this on the screen and freak out thinking my screen got messed up. Turns out it's my adblocker doing work :D6
Mistakenly clicked on some old link in my bookmarks, fell on this. I still don't know what to think!
(Eat some JPEG, by the way :))3
Relative phones up worried about installing Adblocker as it "can store and modify the websites you visit"...my answer.."so can GCHQ, NSA AND CIA so just give in to the fact that you have no privacy and click ok"...*long pause*.."ok one more question, what's a chrome extension?"..FML
You should just switch off your adblocker for one day....
... and see what blatant ads are available these days. 😡5
So I now bought an iphone 6 again for development and tried just for fun to make it a daily driver and it feels really limited, especially because apparently theres no jailbreak yet for 11.2.5. (I feel near everything could be solved as soon as cydia etc. get fully released to the alibaba jailbreak)
I didnt even remember, that it doesnt have any option to have haptic feedback when typing, such a basic feature has to be jailbroken..? I thought I remembered that it had it, last time I had one - did they remove such a basic feature?
Also the fingerprint reader is really weird compared to other phones from the same year, first getting it to actually fill all fingerprint lines without saying "try again" or it trolling you and vibrating as if it recognized your finger, but actually didnt (really frustrating when its the last 2 lines...) - is a real challenge, might be that I have some mutant fingerprints, but when I asked my s/o to try it out, it also failed most of the times, so you have to position your finger in a very specific position for it to work, even if you add the max amount of 5 fingerprints.
Most ads on iphones feel HORRIBLE, the amount of lag some can add is incredible, wait till it loaded or youre fucked and besides using some shady adblocker vpn, theres no way to block them, without again - a jailbreak.
Another feature that I used many times on my android phone, is controlling it from the desktop, connect it via usb and then just use it for demonstration purposes on a projector or to instruct how things work - theres no such function without a jailbreak, even if you use osx..
Then theres the feature, that instead of just setting your cursor to a specific location, you have to hold and it zooms in, not sure if I just got too used to the android way of doing it, but I can see myself making less mistakes of where I positioned it with the ios way.
The hardware mute switch feels like a great feature, its just sometimes weird, so if you were inside an app that was playing sound and you mute it, it still plays it until you either close and open that app or just change to another one temporarily, so its not an actual hardware switch as I usually thought, more like a request to mute the phone.
The cable that comes with it is too thin, I am afraid to even unwind it, as it would probably break, so I had to get another one.
Please don't turn this into a shitfest from any of the fanboys, I really just wanted to share my image of finally being able to try it first hand again.4
Went to PC Gamer's website. Got blocked by an anti-adblocker. Opened the DevTools to remove the fuck out of it. Found class names that may have been made by the drunkest vodka-fed polish dude the Earth ever carried.8
I build my friend's pc
He didn't had windows
The site where we bought the oem license was messed up
and yes... I had to use teamviewer to disable his adblocker...
Oh, and 12 hours later to activate windows...
And yes, it was me spending 10 minutes on the phone to acivate his windows key since we got a already used license...
Adding it up, including the whatsapp remote support, If I would st art charing I would get rich...1
While having dinner at my desk, I was watching a comedy video on YouTube. After the video finished, it went to another one in the que. Next thing I noticed that I ended up in "Penis Enlargement" video.
Why is YouTube so rude maybe because I use adblocker.1
I'll just leave this here:
No tracking, no revenue: Apple's privacy feature costs ad companies millions
Firefox Quantum vs Chrome - Round 2
I was prompted with an update for FF (auto-updater always fails for some reason), went on their website, found that part on the page, and opened up task manager. Had a short laugh.
FF: 7 tabs
Same extensions (AdBlocker, Ghostery, PageSpeed). Chrome has JetBrains integration though.
Actually 60% more use. Quantum Optimisations™7
Anyone else who hates sites that put obnoxious ads all over the page then proceed to whine when somebody runs an adblocker?3
I get offended when a website doesn't even put overflow: hidden on their body below the adblocker warning. So effortless 🤔2
Weird idea i had while in the shower: Make a browser (or even better an addon for commonly used browsers) and find some reasons why people would download and install it. The addon blocks all the ads on the websites and replces them with your own adds. People who don't use adblocker probably don't care whether the website or the browser itself shows the ad. This would be somewhat unethical but apart from that I don't see why this wouldn't work.
If you actually go ahead and do this, feel free to do so but give me 10% or something.3
Omg has Google placed a new ad scheme online or something? It's fucking huge! Almost an entire screen of ads before seeing the first search result.
Task on freelancer : There are (too) many adblocker detection plugins. I want you to select one, test it at your local development environment (we will not provide) that it does the following:
- reliably discovers an AdBlocker
- does not interfere with regular ad serving (AdSense) if no AdBlocker is installed at user's browser
****- shows alternate banners (coming from our servers, so they look like regular pictures instead) even when AdBlocker is active *******
OKAY Now reality was that pre thought, pondered by PM ?
anyway adblocks seems doing Acceptable ads* which might be payed for ;)1
We devs are installing adblockers. Meanwhile, Google shareholders are clicking all ads to increase Google's revenue...
Why is it that a website thinks that it would be a good idea to completely block a user from using their website if they have an adBlocker? Now don't get me wrong, I can understand them wanting to put up a message maybe saying "hey we make money off the ads that are displayed, please don't block them." But FFS give the user the choice to close the window and continue on if they don't want to disable their adBlocker! I know personally I just choose to leave the site and go elsewhere for content when I encounter those things!
Don't force me to disable and then refresh!2
sorry, search engines were not helpful. does anyone know of a lightweight browser that doesn't need installing but stores everything in the os user directory?
i have no it-permissions but want to provide my department with a suitable browser. we have ie and edge, but the latter deletes everything on closing which makes it unusable for my usecase and the it is not willing to set this up different.
ff portable can not be run from a read-only-folder and any other scenario either needs installing on every terminal or does not handle different profiles which is essential. i read that this is the case for any portable browser.
i'd like to set it up properly with neccessary start page, favourites, adblocker and so on but just in one network directory for maintainance reasons.
we run a web based application strictly local but each windows-user-account must have their own setting in this app (cookies or preferably webstorage).
am i asking too much for?1
I keep getting texts from KappAhl and it's impossible to unsubscribe, hence their ads can only be classified as spam. There should be an AdBlocker for SMS.3
