Linux developers threaten to pull the kill switch...talking about giving people the finger this week...
If you have been following the nerd news these last weeks you may have heard about Linus leaving Linux (temporarily) and implementing the new CoC (pronounced cock) code of conduct thanks to the constant pressure of the ABC of inclusion (LGBTQLMNOP+ groups).
This new code of conduct aims, believe it or not, to change the predominantly white, straight, and male face of programming and it also seems to "mitigate the consequences of dogmatic meritocracy".
That's right, are you white, male, straight or otherwise pull yourself out of the mud? Yes, YOU are part of the problem (also racist, sexist and probably islamophobic).
Bullshit I know, these SJW privileged upper class assholes are pushing for these changes to inspire witch-hunts against good devs like Larry Garfield (cause: sexual fetishes) and give themselves more power over the free speech of people.
Ironic if you ask me because I haven't seen anything similar for oil rigging which is riddled with cis males (but ain't as comfy).
But not everything is lost and that's why this hasn't been a mouth foaming rant because boy I'm proud to know there are devs with balls out there; It seems there's a little detail with the GPL2 license and all those unjustly banned by the new stupid racist ass CoC can withdraw the license to their contributions crippling the Linux kernel project.
I'm not happy that GNU/Linux is being threatened like so, but it was about time we put a stop to this, your politics, skin color, religion and ideas should not matter when developing code, what matters is the code you produce.
Want to politicize our repos and kick out devs just because they don't think the way you do? Let's see how long you last without the contributions of the "deplorables"; let us see how many good contributions your new "diverse", PC stack do (other than changing master/slave or other terms).
My guess...as I've said earlier, everything these PC busybodies touch, if unchecked, crumbles to dust. (EA 😉)

Well one thing that became obvious today is that companies that make wifi routers really dont want you flashing other firmware on it.
For example i got a new router cause it was time.
Ofc fully compatible with OpenWRT. The thing tho ? The GUI flashing process accepts only encrypted binaries. And surprise we as customers cant encrypt it like they do.
So the next thing that comes to mind instantly is UART. They cant break that right ? Well turns out they can. They just disallow key inputs from console. So you cant make the damn device load into TFTP mode.
And D-Link has this lovely recovery utility that accepts unencrypted firmware. EZ way to flash it right ? WRONG. The garbage doesnt load second time after you load it once in 1 boot. And even if you get it to start loading the firmware. It wont really flash it.
Luckily there was an exploit :)
And joining via telnet and enabling http server on PC and wget-ting the binary from there. And flashing.
Honestly now. I pay money for this garbage. I own the hardware. Let me do what i want with it.
At least it runs kernel 5.10 now and is super fast :) Worth the trouble honestly
(Should be noted im not new to flashing firmware on routers. But this is the first one that really didnt want me to flash it. Like nuking my freaking UART access ? Taking it too fucking far)7 -
So there was that paranoid schizophrenic person, a blonde girl with a buzz cut, and somehow she was a friend of mine. She used a Linux distro called “!!!!!!!!____!!!!!”, and convinced me it was the best distro out there. But the way she used it was… very specific.
She called me. She told me the new distro was out, this time it was called “!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”, and _this_ was the best one. It finally allowed her to observe the area around her neighbourhood right from her PC, through some app, and make pits in the ground. It was done with a touchscreen of a Nintendo DSi connected to her PC with something that looked like an IDE cable. You touch the area of the screen, and the pit will appear outside IRL. This was needed to trap swine-looking creatures in those pits, as they infested the land and were attacking people in packs, turning them into dirty, greyish, half-transparent lumps of gel.
I went to see her, and somehow I knew exactly how it's going to end, as if I decided to replay a game level. She lived in a rotten, mouldy, dark, half-abandoned condo building. She was also a terrible hoarder. I approach the old wooden door of her flat. It was painted over 1000 times and was barely closing. She knew I would come. She rushed outside, looked at me with her moon-sized eyes, grabbed my arm and told me:
“We have to run.”
I felt a sudden crippling rush of anxiety. I woke up. My heart was absolutely racing. My sight became darker and darker. The chest pain was consuming me, and I could barely move. I almost vomited.
That was quite a night.8 -
computers are really expensive around here, so I've been using the same laptop for 6 years. a couple months ago it perished (rip).
me and my bf got all new parts and made a reasonably priced pc. it's been the first in a really long time that i enjoyed using a computer lol. it's a huge difference in my mindset knowing things won't take 3 min to load and that it won't crash every 2 secs11 -
They've been in a meeting with some clients the whole morning.
12PM, time for me to go. Say Happy New Year and am on my way home.
12:20 Got home, took shirt off, got something to eat from the fridge.
12:22 Bit the first slice of pizza. Phone rings.
- "Yo' we wanted to show them app 2 but I can't log in."
+ "I left the laptop (and the whole dev environment) there, and there's no PC on in my house (and no dev environment whatsoever)."
- "Well check with your phone. [SIC] Tell me when you fix it."
12:32 I had turned my personal computer on; checked the problem was what I imagined (unpkg lib with no version defined on the link had a new major/non-retrocompatible version); grabbed an online FTP tool; remembered IP, user & password; edited the single line that caused the problem; and checked it worked. Calling back.
+ "It's fixed."
- "Thanks!"
12:38 CEO sent me an image of the app not working, due to a known bug.
+ "That happens if you try to access app 1 having accessed app 2 and not logging off." (app 2 isn't being used / sold, as it's still in development) "Try logging off and logging in again from app 1."
- * radio silence *
+ * guess they could get in *
They had the whole freaking morning. 😠
I'm the hero CMMi's level one warns you about. But at what cost.
Happy early New Year's Eve everyone.2 -
Had to change password on computer for administrative reasons (sysadmins and infosec make us change our pass every quarter). Changes didn't sync to everything so now I can't even log into my computer.
Need to go to the office tomorrow so some guy can type in an admin password on my pc and do stuff to it. If that doesn't work I will just be given a new laptop.
Seriously fuck this week6 -
It happens some times. not actualy their fault.

I currently have a PC with Windows 10 and I am thinking of switching to Linux. I am very new to stuff like that. Any suggestions or tips??20 -
when I was like 11yrs. old, my father has bought a new phone for himself. I used to play a lot of gta vice city those days on my PC. one day i got to use a card reader to exchange multimedia between PC and the phone.
so, i copied gta vice city in my phone. bcoz i knew that i can move around the players using the phone's d-pad. I was left broken when I saw the error msg. in the phone: "file not recognised"
:-/
After few days, my friend wanted to play gta-vc, so he asked for the game CD. but this guy didn't have a computer in his home and he won't listen to me when I try to tell him, "you can't just play a video game in your DVD-player with a TV remote??" So, I gave it to him.
Next day, he was angry at me, bcoz the game didn't worked, obviously it was me who hve messed something in it. :-/
What utterly stupid things you guys or your friends have done?9 -
Yet another reason to design my own keyboard..
I get the most expensive keyboard out there, and guess what, it stops working correctly when it collects a bit of dust and hair..
Meanwhile my 35 year old IBM Model M, you could eat on it for 10 years and it would still function just fine !
My new keyboard, the roller wheel starts to act up, no problem, I'll just take it apart and clean it..
Once I find all the hidden screws with odd sized screw heads..
And then find out you can't take it all apart easily to gain access to the parts you want to clean.
And then find out, the parts you do want to clean, don't seem to come apart for cleaning..
Lets drip some cleaning fluid there anyhow and hope for the best !
That worked, for now..
So badly designed !
Oh did I mention how its a split keyboard, and the addon part doesn't have a locking mechanism, so you need to use blutak to hold it together..
Who designs this shit !
And that is before I mention how windows updates screwed with the keyboard settings so I suddenly got bounce issues !
It's supposed to be a bounce free keyboard !
And it doesn't work in my BIOS because its USB.. ( Even though USB is supposed to be supported.. )
So, why doesn't someone design a USB and PS/2 keyboard !
Did I mention how the keyboard font is too small to read without glasses..
Or how the back lit keys bleed light all over the place, and don't just shove iit through the keytops.
And, now my iii is acting up repeating itself..
My IBM model M was never like this !
But it isn't backlit..
Nor does it have a left handed numberpad..
But then, this doesn't have a real left handed numberpad, its just a right handed one on the left side, so my thumb is in the wrong place !
Apart from that, its fine...
Oh, except, don't use the app that comes with it, or rather, don't leave to runnning, or it crashes your PC..
But its fine to set up the keyboard with. :-)25 -
I don’t understand why people hate windows, especially windows 11??
Running Windows 11 on a Dell Latitude 3520 with an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, I was able to go from the computer completely shutdown to a new 3D unity project fully loaded and ready to go in only 1 minute and 25 seconds!!! That’s from completely shutdown!
I haven’t overclocked the PC or anything and have used half of the 465GB storage!20 -
HOOOOLIIIII fUUUUUCCCCKKKK!!!!
So my fucking I know everything.... I can do all shity boss rushes me to do OS install on a hp 250 g8 which seems to be problematic coz you cant see the drive.....research says load the F6 driver but that seems to be not working
whiles i was removing and reinserting the driver i accidentally connected the belt that connects to the driver the wrong way..... plug in the pc and smoke came out....
And it a brand new fucking PC and i almost shiteded myself
Luckily the belt was not completely burnt off
it can still read the driver -
everything is going as planned! :)
Learned Rust Lang. i loved it (that doesn't mean i am done learning na? No! never stop)
new language i could do game memory hacking in without worrying about C++ memory leaks or issues. it also compiles to assembly! another of my favorite languages!
(i use rust for game development and other stuff)
i am not leaving C / C++ though that would be harsh!,
i abandoned javascript for react and typescript.
to be honest the developer just made javascript and left us with a [object Object]
finished learning the android java api so im basically set anything i want to make i can just go on my pc, listen to music and write it out in a couple of days.
well phazor what are you going to do now?!
i will code till i am old.
i will leave my mark like a shid that made its skid in the bowl :)5 -
Playstation plus extra has pillars of eternity and pathfinder. Surprised to find out they had proper gamepad support. Really diggin the chilled nature of those games. Back to having the longest gaming sessions like when i was a teen. New games nowadays like the soulslikes games are too much sometimes. Especially when you just want to chillout. Also bcs of job cant do pc gaming with keyboard and mouse at all.4

I nearly ended up with too many computers..
But luckily the first person I tried to buy something from on Ebay finally cancelled the order after saying I lived on another planet and they only deliver on their one..
Once they told me they wasn't going to deliver it, I went and brought another one.
Then they said they was going to deliver it after all..
Oh dear, now I've two newer computers arriving when I only really wanted one..
But now they have finally refunded me, so I'm only getting one after all !
I ran into a slight problem with my current one, when trying to install more RAM into it, it broke a bit. :-(
Meanwhile, the newer one has arrived, and fitting more RAM into that went well, it just worked like you see in the movies, or on YouTube videos. :-)
Meanwhile, my now older PC, I can try to fix.
But only once I install the GPU's and various SSD's into the newer PC, and transfer over apps/data.
Plus get the OS to behave nicely..
Last time that took me 6 months to do !
I really don't like changing PC's..
Nor Ebay vendors who say includes delivery, but doesn't if you live someplace awkward. ( Says deliveries anywhere on Earth.. )
New PC should be about 50% faster than old one, so that's good.
And with 64Gb of RAM instead of 24Gb, so no more easily running out of browser tabs !
I'm reminded of:
https://youtube.com/watch/...
---
How many Chrome tabs can you open with 2TB RAM?
---
64Gb was expensive enough for me !8 -
Whilst others have success with getting new RAM, plugging it in and it just working, for me, that didn't happen..
I reckon it could easily take me a whole year just to figure out if the new RAM I got, even works in my motherboard ! ( Since I can't find a single reference online to anyone having ever used this particular RAM on my particular motherboard ! )
Meanwhile, trying to get a newer PC to play with so to speak.
Ordered one, but they said they couldn't deliver it because I lived on another planet..
Meanwhile, whilst waiting for a refund, ordered another one !
This one appears to have entered the postal service chain of command, so might arrive sometime this year.
Or maybe they will both arrive and then I'll have a really good machine for backup !
Ideally I just want the Dell Precision T5810 Intel Xeon E5-1650 v4 to arrive.
But I might also end up with a HP Z620 XEON E5-1650v2, since it was a lot cheaper, and I reckon just a bit slower.
Feels so grown up to buy an off the shelf machine and not put it together myself. :-)
Though I'm sure there will be plenty of stuff to stuff into it, since I want 64Gb of RAM, SSD's, and even my first sort of NVMe.
So, whenever I get bored, I can just learn more about RAM settings, after I take my old PC apart and stick that piece of cardboard that is supposed to fix RAM issues into it..
I don't suppose anyone here knows how to get 48Gb of ECC RAM to work on a Gigabyte X58A-UD5 motherboard by chance.. ?9
