Writing some code on a flight
"ARE YOU HACKING?!?!"
"Ugh... Well yeah but not in the way you're thinking"
"Omg I'm getting a flight attendant"
Needless to say I'm still en route because the flight attendant realized that I'm not Mr Robot, nor do I have ZeroCool scribbled on my laptop anywhere.14 -
I was drunk yesterday, watching Mr. Robot.
Woke up with Kali linux booted from a usb and a hacked WiFi password for my annoying vegan neighbor.33 -
Me when I'm FREE :
Hmm, I don't have anything to do, let's sleep for 10 hours..
Me when I have to STUDY :
Let's watch that latest episode of Mr. Robot
Let's complete that side-project I started to 10 years ago..
Let's learn something new in Android Development...
Let's scroll devRant..20 -
No, I'm not hacking.
No Linux is not a movie.
No, you are not a developer because you can put "Hello World" on a website.
No, this isn't a waste of my time.
Yes, I will use it.
Yes, I'll make you a website for free. NOT!
Your phone is both Android and Samsung.
No, what they did in the movie is impossible.
No, I can't predict the stock market.
No, I'm not Mr. Robot, but I know him...5 -
Congrats to Rami Malek for winning Emmy Award for best lead actor in a drama series - Mr. Robot. He was stunned to win over heavy competition. Must be a modest guy.4
-
I actually love Mr. Robot because at least they are trying to show the actual tools plus the codes that can be used to hack, not some kind of random console outputs that doesn't even make sense in the most of the tv series/ movies4
-
From Mr Robot
“Most coders think debugging hardware is about fixing a mistake.
But that's bullshit.
Debugging’s actually all about finding the bug.
About understanding why the bug was there to begin with.
About knowing that it’s existence was no accident.”
— ELLIOT1 -
Best computer/hacking/tech TV and movies?
I'll start the list with some of my favorites.
1. Hackers
2. The Net
3. Jumpin Jack Flash
4. Antitrust
5. Swordfish
6. Wargames
7. Mr Robot
Anyone else?34 -
My friend at school (IT High School in Poland if you're interested) just asked me what version of Windows does Elliot in Mr. Robot use. After I said that it's not Windows, he didn't let me finish my sentence and said that you can't push macOS theming this far.10
-
"Debugging's actaully all about finding the bug, about understanding why the bug was there to begin with, about knowing that it's existence was no accident. It came to you to deliver a message."
-Elliot, Mr. Robot8 -
Well, I just realized, that Mr. Robot (Rami Malek) plays Freddie Mercury in the new movie "Bohemian Rhapsody".
My brain isn't able to realize that now he is singing instead of hacking... 😂6 -
The most difficult thing about debugging isn't fixing the bug, it's all about finding the bug. -Mr Robot6

Most coders think debugging software is about fixing a mistake. But that’s bullshit. Debugging is actually all about finding the bug, about understanding why the bug was there to begin with. About knowing that its existence was no accident. It came to you, to deliver a message, like an unconscious bubble floating to the surface, popping with a revelation you’ve secretly known all along.

For those who have seen "Mr Robot" (if not just GO), we agree, terminals contents are just amazing 😮
Best TV show of all time ♥️13 -
Damnit I stayed up until 230am cause I had to see what "Mr robot" was all about and now I'm on episode 5.2
-
My friend after he watched some of the shows I recommend him(silicon valley, Mr robot, etc)
"You're like an encapsulation of all the things wrong with the characters, without the genius"2 -
Silicon Valley Season 4 is coming on HBO in April...
Its one of my favs when it comes to series...
What do you watch? Except Mr. Robot12 -
Who else is excited for Mr. Robot's second season? This is on par with Breaking Bad for me and that teaser trailer just got me even more pumped!11
-
Thought Amazon servers went bonkers seeing these names. Later realized these are episode names for TV series, Mr Robot.
-
Mr. Robot is a trip! I've just started watching. I think my most appreciative part is that it's not just about programming side but the characters as well. They are really quite deep, frighteningly deep.8
-
Since I moved from pure dev to Code Forensics, and studying with Forensic Computing students (who do one module on security), the amount of Kali Linux wallpapers on a Windows machine is overwhelming.
It's like the entire class watched three episodes of Mr Robot and now thinks they can change the world with a goddamn semester of teaching!4 -
{spoilers, i guess...}
In season 1 episode 4 of Mr.Robot, Elliott plans on using a Raspberry Pi to heat up the storage facility in order to destroy the cassette tapes stored there. If he can get the temperature high enough, it would render those tapes useless. I was just wondering, can a hack like this take place in real life?11 -
Mr Robot >>> Queen?

Repost (deleted the old post to add this marvelous picture for tha girls wet dreams.)18 -
What the person said:
"It's a good closed source solution."
What I've heard:
"It's an unstable piece of crap, developers of which are so embarrassed by their senseless efforts, that they don't want to show it to anybody."
Mental reprogramming vide Mr Robot.2 -
X: "what do you do for a living?"
Me: "i'm a computer engineer"
X: "so you're like Mr. Robot, right?"
Me: "..."1 -
The obvious one:
E-Corp (aka. Evil Corp).
First they acted all evil, and then they wanted to control the world.
A brilliant business model tbh., but not very humanistic one.2 -
Arrrr not you too Firefox 😶 and Mr Robot . ... Wtf is wrong with both parties marketing team. If this is not irony, wtf is.
https://sircmpwn.github.io/2017/12/...21 -
Anyone else here a huge Mr Robot fan? Finally a realistic programming/hacking show! I decided to nickname myself Mr Robot when playing Airsoft :)3

"Most coders think debugging software is about fixing a mistake, but that's bullshit. Debugging's actually all about finding the bug, about understanding why the bug was there to begin with, about knowing that its existence was no accident. It came to you to deliver a message, like an unconscious bubble floating to the surface, popping with a revelation you've secretly known all along. A bug is never just a mistake. It represents something bigger. An error of thinking. That makes you who you are. When a bug finally makes itself known, it can be exhilarating, like you just unlocked something. Because, after all, a bug's only purpose, it's only reason for existence is to be a mistake that needs fixing, to help you right a wrong. And what feels better than that? The bug forces the software to adapt, evolve into something new because of it. Work around it or work through it. No matter what, it changes. It becomes something new. The next version. The inevitable upgrade." - Elliot, Mr. Robot6

Best girl i've met.
I attended a CMS Conference last month(I don't use a CMS, i'm just interested with the topics about DevOps and UI/UX). I met this pretty lady ( I find her cute and awesome.) who's one of the speaker, she talked about design principles and applying it to BEM with SASS. After the talk, i asked her some questions about her dev't workflow like what tools she used and some best practices. Our conversation went well and exchange some of our knowledge and ideas also i introduced her to devrant (She's a wordpress user, i showed to her how the community hates WP, idk if she registered). After her talked we separated ways and ended seeing again after the conference as she's looking for a cab going to a mall (Same directions where i'm heading to), We talked again and decided to have dinner together. I felt like she's the best girl i met as she's into TV shows i like (Silicon Valley and Mr Robot). We added ourselves in FB and saying goodbye to each other. After a week or two, i just found out that she already into a relationship and it broke my heart.
I guess im back to the start, but i'm happy that i made a new friend.15 -
Whoever is breaking the internet today... Russia? Seth Rogen Movie? Kim Kardashian? Mr. Robot? Please stop! I'm trying to work!3

Sometimes I daydream about just selling out and doing the whole diversity and women who code kind of thing. Apply for the big tech companies and work my way towards becoming one of the faces of their bullshit company. I'm gonna get a long wig, tan myself brown, and wear subtle native shit like a carabao brooch or some Cheongsam-inspired work suit. And when there's a big work event or party, I'm gonna go full on White Rose from Mr Robot, smiling and shaking people's hands like I give a shit. Gonna try to look wholesome and innocent, all I really wanted was a chance to get into tech as a humble being.
I'm gonna practice a strong accent and I would tell humble stories about where I came from, that god sent me here, and about all the struggles I had getting into the field as a woman. I'm gonna step up to the podium and say shit like, "Women can do it too, we can kuh-hode!" Then I'm gonna stir up some shit like, "Why is the terminal black?" Gonna make my voice and hands shake from intense emotion (visible anger, almost crying), "Why is something that we use to do our bidding black? Are we not over the years of slavery in the past? What does a terminal represent? Slavery. You know what else is terminal? Cancer. Slavery and racism are the cancers of our society. We must stop this. Terminals should be in all colors and it shouldn't be black by default."
1. Point out a non-malicious thing and add malice to it. The more racist and sexist, the better.
2. Mention something bad that is not related to it at all.
3. Make them seem related in an attempt to make a point.
4. Fail to make a point.
5. Say "we must stop this".
I'm gonna look straight into people's eyes with a serious face while cry-laugh-cringing internally. "As a brown woman, this makes me sad. I have Kubernetes skills, you know and it hurts me." If I catch some people laughing even though I'm also about to fart from internal laughter, I will point at the whitest male of them all. "You, do you think this is funny? Because this is my life, as well as millions of other people like ME!"
Then I'm gonna curse all of the white men who obviously only got into this field through violence. Yes, Mike, I know you pointed a gun at the HR to get in. What else could it be? All you know is violence because testosterone! You don't really know Kubernetes, I do, I set it up all the time for my thousands of hello world applications and yet here you are, just walking in with your white boy genes and your guns and taking all our jobs away. "What do you have to say for yourself? Shame."
Then of course, some hardcore social media "journalists" are gonna capture this on video and people are gonna ruin whoever man I pointed out's life and say shit like, "This big white man laughed at this little brown chick while she was talking. Sexism and racism in one video. This is why tech is so toxic." I'm gonna allow myself to get caught with a boner (big plastic white bottle) and people are gonna talk about how they didn't use a real woman as the face of their women who code thing. "I admit, I was born in a body that did not align with my desires but just because I have a penis doesn't mean I can't wear a Cheongsam. Also, the fact that you're pointing this out is discrimination and I had enough of that in my life. Shame. This is why tech is so toxic. You accept black terminals but not Cheongsam dicks. Fuck you."
I'm gonna keep ranting about big bad white men while dating one. Of course, people will find this out and point it out. I would flip it and say, "See? This is the problem. You look down on people like me because you're all racist. Just because I'm brown doesn't mean I can't date someone who is white. Sexist. Just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I don't have a choice who to date."
I'll keep ranting about all the ridiculous shit, just calling people names every time they speak. Just shame them for no reason then after several years of collecting my diversity money, I'm gonna leak a porn video of me. A compilation of sucking white man dick with voice overs just saying "big bad white men" over and over again. Some really degrading porn kinda shit. "You know what else scales? My ass cluster. Yeah, baby, fill up my containers with your sweet, sweet, love juice."
God bless whoever hires me and make me the face of their company. They will be forever ruined.17 -
On this weekend, I wanted to work on a product design, I wanted to learn networking, I wanted to write my blog, I wanted to work on my current open source project.
What did I do?
Watched Mr. Robot
And no, I don't feel guilty.2 -
Sorry for breaking the protocol, but I'm not here to rant. I want to thanks all the ranters (is that a thing now?) for recommending Mr. Robot (the TV series). Just watched the first episode and I can see myself watching it all day. Be back tomorrow.6
-
Mighty Devrant gods.
enlighten me with your knowledge.
Best programming/"hacking" movies/shows?
(I've already watched Mr robot)
Even the cringe worthy but classic, must watch ones.12 -
Well, devRant has turned me from a bigot arse into quite the humble and decent person, and on top of that, introduced me to some new series (well more so the users than the platform, but you know what I mean).
Binge watched Silicon Valley (season one, I just started) and learnt about dick to floor ratio.
Prior to that binge watched Mr Robot. Cannot remember who suggested that, so I cannot attribute the appropriate gratitude to the appropriate person here.
Add to that that I no longer claim one language to be holy amongst others. Yeah. I was that dick before, we all have a bad side. I'm just admitting it.
I sat down and started utilising other languages, and even found quite a few that did what I wanted more efficiently. Plus I have gotten to meet some sharp people and broaden my own mind.
Fuck I hate my job, but I see a fucking brilliant future for myself thanks to coding and the open mind that I have attained. I attribute this to devRant (perhaps it was lying dormant, but you guys awoke it.).
Enough chitty chat, I'm off to sleep and then code my balls off.2 -
My local library still hasn't noticed the change of name. They need to stop using a default password for the printer! Imagine how users would feel knowing private documents they scanned can be seen elsewhere? Making good passwords either needs to be incentivised, or factory passwords should be generated. Or I guess one day, people and maybe companies too will have such trash IoT security everywhere else too that you get the smart home hack from Mr Robot.
Seriously, it's dumb.8 -
Some actual company names I see out of the corner of my eye that make me think of Mr. ROBOT
Iron Mountain : Steel Mountain
Allstate : Allsafe4 -
Firefox.
I ignored your update for ages.
Because half your dev base are retards circle jerking over a language made by a smug midwit marxist who believes in ceremony over productivity.
And then you go and autoupdate without my permisson. Didn't realize microsoft wasn't the only one that could push things on people like common rapists.
Went and pushed an update when I've EXPLICITLY turned down your update nagware hundreds of times.
And now ad block is disabled.
And I'm being flooded by bullshit.
And the 'patch' you released requires me to update.
Well jumping fucking christ on a pogo stick. Why didnt you just force update the whole god damn application you shit-for-brains firefox devs?
What, you thought I wouldn't fucking notice?
You thought, because microsoft did it, that this shit was cool, in 2019?
Like that bullshit you pulled as a 'tie in' for mr robot?
I would kick you in your fucking nuts if I met you.
Ps: Your fucking patch that you put out doesn't even fucking reenable extensions.
Incompetent dumbasses.
I'm moving to another browser with less 'diversity' in the dev team.37 -
Not a rant. Just some motivation for lazy fucks :)
Everything is binary. You do it or you don't. So tell me Elliot are you a 1 or are you a 0 !!
-Mr. Robot5 -
Just watching some videos about feminism and I'm just thinking: "how fucking nutty are these people really?!"
Too drunk right now to write about the recent developments in Mozilla's adoption of "the big bad patriarchy and meritocracy" (and I don't have the password database mirrored on my recently unfucked WanBLowS 10 desktop yet so I've no idea how to authenticate to devRant on it yet) but I'll try to get it out there by tomorrow 🙂
Simply put, Mozilla.. I like you regardless of the whole Mr. Robot crap from earlier, and I'm sure you've got your heart in the right place.. although I'm using Brave nowadays - a creation from the board member you've shunned over this whole PC shit, Brandon Eich. But let me tell you this, Mozilla. Enough is enough. Don't be fucking idiots.24 -
After watching Mr Robot, I installed Kali and learnt to hack WiFi passwords via brute force. Was utterly disappointed that, most crackers just use prebuilt tools instead of developing their own algorithms and programs.14

“Debugging is actually all about finding the bug. About understanding why the bug was there to begin with. About knowing that it’s existence was no accident.”

//Random Mr. Robot thought//
So this picture and this quote in general has been in my mind quite recently. The first time I saw this scene it just passed through my mind as just a wierd quirk of elliot. But upon further thinking, I question that given Elliot is someone who specializes in network security in a sense. A part of which focuses on finding exploits in networks or even software in general( basically finding the worst in them). And the more I think about that, the more I come to realisation that just like most programmers mix together logic in their life in dealing with people, this scene stands out as an example of just that happening with Elliot and what perhaps, makes him such a good hacker. Perhaps we could all learn from this, or perhaps I'm just looking too much into this. Eh.5 -
So it's 23h30 last night and I've turned on the projector to watch the last episode of Mr Robot.
As I start the episode, I receive an email on my phone telling me that some important Azure webjob is throwing exceptions...
Fuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkk
1 hour later it was fixed, and I watched my episode. Win!2 -
!rant
I just watched the new Mr. Robot Trailer.
I'm sure that s3 will be awesome.
2017-10-11 contdown is started.5 -
When i'm in a coffe-shop, i always have the same thoughts:
"Hello, friend.
Hello, friend?
That's lame.
Maybe I should give you a name, but that's a slippery slope.
You're only in my head."1 -
FUCK YOU MR ROBOT JUSY TELL ME EVERYTHING THATS GOING ON THAT YOU HAVENT TOLD ME YET FOR FUCKS SAKE I JUST WANNA KNOW NOW!!!3
-
So silicon valley ended. And Mr Robot is ending in 4 days. What the fuck am I gonna do with my life then?!33
-
mr robot, halt and catch fire, silicon valley, tvf pitchers.....
any suggestions for movies like pirates of silicon valley?4 -
watched first two episodes of mr. robot and it seems pretty good so far. does it go like other hacker shows/movies or does it stay good?10
-
First company:
- being sat at an office that didn't have chairs with proper back support. It would kill my back every day. Like sitting on a bar stool coding.
- not having access to basic resources (cafeteria, salary bonuses)
- being seriously underpaid ($200 under)
- not having an IT process pipeline (yeah, this is a huge one): no JIRA, no git, no VCS, no continuous integration, etc. I fucking spend 45% of the time fixing coding-unrelated shit.
Second company (very aggravating):
- dumb frontend bitch and privileged colleague who both kept telling me months on end to shut up and who wouldn't listen to my advice on anything, while my advice would actually help the company advance in productive ways. The key here is being told to shut up while stagnating. i.e. dead end job.
- people advancing in the company based on nepotism and favoritism, based on having tits and ass, rather than skills and independence.
- pointlessssssssss meetings where decisions are made solely based on the opinion of Mr. favorite senior dev. The rest just sits there like a bunch of sad saps and yay-nodders. Incompetent PO's who "would like to hear your input" but then when you give it, they completely dismiss you.
- pointlessssssssss monthly meetings with stakeholders, where the dev teams do nothing but clash and act like pussies in front of the PM just to get in his favor, but behind scenes continue to make the same mistakes and telling the CEO everything is fine. Goodness, how can it get more unproductive.
- completely antisocial and nepotistic 'colleagues' who won't even talk to you, let alone smile at you or be friendly. You saying good morning and them pretending you're vapor that doesn't exist. Go go company atmosphere! Especially during lunch, those are the worst times. Imagine sitting at lunch where everyone looks like you killed their dog and the rest is huddled up in little high school groups.
What else? The incessant and pointless smalltalk that makes me want to bang my head against the wall. Talking about dogs, kids, what show was on tv last night. The fuck man, do you have a brain?!
Third company:
- HR bitches who think they are the shit and developers are antisocial, helpless misfits, but they work with computers and they don't even fucking know what a status bar is! The irony!
- forced socializing and stigmatization for the opposite. Imagine coming into a company and you don't say good morning. Should that be a problem? No. Instead, everyone starts dogging on you and hating you just because you didn't smile in their faces and said: hiiiiiiiiiiii how did you sleep? Did you feed your dog? Fuck you.
Elliot (Mr. Robot): "Wouldn't it be awesome if there was a mute button for life?" -boop, boop, boop, boop...- Ahh.. there.. that's much better."
- CEO's sucking up to you but when it comes to salary increase, they say shit like: "Ahhh ya know, it's kinda difficult." Yet another dead end job.2 -
- halt and catch fire
- silicon valley
- mr robot
are there others, at least half as good as hcf?21 -
Each time I try firefox after somebody mentions it again or it's in my rss feed, it still seems to never actually advance
It's stuck and either gets worse or goes back to its stable non improving level again, how come do they still not have a proper mobile responsive tester, why are even the upgraded addons still suffering the same container and rendering bugs
how is it more important getting bad image by implementing mr robot malware, than getting on an actual competitive level
why is it default bloated with random pocket addon bullshit, why did it begin to lag, ..
I remember when I was using firefox for a good portion of my life and laughed at how google chrome is laggy, but nowadays theres simply no competition to chrome, its stability and developer tools
I wish there was competition, the grid tools were a great start, but then nothing followed and they just went back to their never improving flatline16 -
I downloaded mr robot. season1-season3. guess what? All of them downloaded in my project folder and I did `git add .` later while working. I was lucky to see it. By now I should've been looking for commit ids to revert.6
-
I really love Mr Robot.
The show though... not the guy...
But there's one thing that bugs me since the beginning:
For security reasons Elliot destroys all his drives and puts his RAM into the microwave which of course is effective but why would you even consider frying volatile memory?
Sure... the data can remain for some time but not that long that he would risk anything...
Any ideas?
Oh and btw... SEASON 3 IS NOT THE END??? LIKE WHAAAAAT?5 -
I am watching Amazon prime Mr. robot and WTF hacking is so easy you just need to be alone and yeah morphine :P9
-
So Mr robot s3 has started & is already 6 episodes in, why hasn't the hype built up this time like last season ?7
-
Most coders think debugging software is about fixing a mistake, but that’s bullshit. Way back, 20 or so years ago, when I went to the university, every student got an account so that we could work with the Unix machines. Every user got the same default password, -apollo-, still remember it until today, and one day I felt a little bit evil and I tried to login to the administrator account, of course the first password I tried was the default password and it worked!!! I got super scared and told an older student about it, who was brave enough to scare the administrators a little bit by leaving a message like "you have been hacked!!!" or something similar. I was just too scared to do anything about it. All I wanted to do was see IF I could login ☺️ my few minutes of being Mr. Robot... Guess hacking was not for me 😃
-
Hacking is awesome and looks easy!!! And seems like even pentagon might have toooons of exploits and backdoors, and qwerty passwords !!
After watching Mr. Robot...4 -
[No spoilers, Mr. Robot, I hope] I saw this screen, and I'm truly curious about one thing:
What does line 21 and 22 do (double print statement)?
Is it an error or is it actually doing something that I don't understand?
I saw he is redirecting stdout to the file, but why the "print out" and "print(out)", does it make anything different that I'm not aware of??19 -
Do you connect Evil corp from Mr. Robot with Dell? E is actially same in logos of those two companies. Well, I own dell laptop and still think it's good gear. Is it making me evil? :)5
-
My teacher showed some Mr. Robot episodes on lesson. I think it's pretty good. What are your opinions about it? Should I start to watch it?4
-
Am I the only one worried with the OS wars lately? Microsoft and Apple trying to gain even more control on everything and Linux remaining at less than 2% on the desktop. People are oblivious to the fact that their personal freedom is at risk, and don't you dare tell me otherwise. Companies knowing what we search or what files we have on our computer, having the ability to control us and force us to follow their rules. We have a choice, and I'm not talking about destroying the economical system a la Mr. Robot, but moving to the Open Source world, not because it's more secure, faster or some such shit, but because it's the only way to ensure freedom on one of the biggest part of our lifes, the digital part. My concerns may be exceeding the normal, and I'll hate it to be right, but I'm afraid that if this goes on, in a few years, we'll understand that we made a big mistake...21
-
Finally got to catch up on last week's episode of Mr. Robot...I must say, Elliott got my mind messed up with all those illusions. O.o2
-
Definitely, the fifth episode of Mr Robot is far better than the others 4, especially the last part, very exciting.2
-
Everyone excited about Silicon valley and Mr. Robot and I'm here just waiting for another season of Gravity Falls...1
-
*not a rant*
For the fans: Mr. Robot s02e04 came out today! Have fun watching.
For who doesn't know Mr. Robot; it's an amazing show and you should probably watch it.11 -
comment your favorite tv shows for em coders n hackers here!
ill start:
mr robot, it crowd and silicon valley7 -
Thoughts on Mr. Robot the show? I'm halfway through season 2 and am utterly taken aback by the brilliance of this series9
-
Who needs Mr. Robot or all that hacker shows, if reality is just as crazy:
https://krebsonsecurity.com/2017/...6 -
I was building an API and was checking out the list of HTTP status codes on Wikipedia, and I found this!
Good job to whoever added this!1 -
Just finished watching "Halt and Catch Fire" on Netflix. If you haven't checked it out, you definitely should. It's about 80s tech disruptions. Also, any other suggestions for tech related TV series / movies? Silicon Valley, Mr. Robot etc.?8
-
I've been watching that "Mr Robot" lately, and its warped my sensibilities. Now, whenever I see something ridiculous, like "I've got the hard drive here" (holds up PSU), I'm irrationally angry and won't watch the rest of the show. I wish more producers would spend the time to build that sort of realism4
-
Trying to watch Mr. Robot, but this USA Now app blows! 3 mins of ads every 10 minutes, literally! I think that might be even more than watching it on real TV!7
-
TLDR; WINE+me=system binaries gone. (HOWTHEFUCKDIDIDOTHAT) Kernel panic. Core program files gone. I'll never have it fixed right. Will backup, then install fedora tomorrow.
I really like games and I'm sure there are many of you who can relate. Imagine my perpetual pain, being on the job hunt, no money, and only my Linux laptop for games. (It's only Linux because of a stupid accident and a missing windows installation disk, partly explained in a previous rant). My stack of games my dad and I have played over the years, going back to populous and before, looked light enough for my laptop to run them smoothly. I wanted to see if I could get one to work. My eyes settled on simcity 4 and Sid Meier's railroad tycoon, 13 and 10 years old, respectively. Simcity didn't work as many times as I tried following online instructions. Disk 1 went fine. Disk 2 showed up as Disk 1. Didn't think much of it, so long as the computer could read the contents. I downloaded playonlinux as that could apparently do the complex stuff for me. Didn't work. I gave up with it after an hour and a half.
Next was railroads. Put the disk in aaaand it says SimCity disk 1 is in the tray. Fuck right off, thank you very much. Eject, put back, reject, eject, fiddle in wineconfig, eject, more of this, and voilà it read as railroads :) Ran autoplay.exe with wine, followed instructions, installed it, and it worked! Chose single player, then the map and setting, pressed play, and all the models of the buildings and track were floating in the air over a green plane, the UI is weird and the map doesn't represent anything but trains. All the fkin land is gone, laying track is gonna be a ballache.
I quit it and decided bedtime.
Ctrl+alt+t
sudo shutdown -h now
shutdown not found.
sudo reboot

Que?
Nope, I don't like this.
Force choked my laptop by the power button. Turned it on again.

Saw a phrase I've only ever seen on Mr Robot.
Kernel panic.
Nooooo thanks, not today, this is fiction.
I turned it off and on. Same thing. I read the logs and some init files couldn't be found. I got the memory stick I used to install mint in the first place and booted from that. I checked the difference between my stick's bin and sbin and the laptop's, and it was indeed missing binaries. Fuck knows what else has happened, I only wanted to play games but now I don't know what is or isn't in my computer. How can I trust what's on it now?
I go downstairs and tell my dad. He says something about rpm, but this is Linux so it won't work. I learn that binaries can be copied over, so maybe I can fix it.
Go upstairs again, decide not to fix it. Fedora is light, has a good rep for security, and is even more difficult to get games on, which is my vice. There are more reasons, but the overriding one is that I'm spooked by the fact that something I did went into and removed system binaries, maybe even altered others, so I want something I'm less likely to do that with. Also my fellow cs students used to hate on it but my dad uses and recommended it so I want to try it.
Also, seriously, fuck wine/PlayOnLinux/my inability to follow instructions(?)/whatever demons haunt me. Take your pick, at least one if not more is to blame and I can't tell which, but it's prooooobably the third one.
It's going to be 16 hours before I touch my laptop again, comments before I backup then install fedora are welcome, especially if they persuade me to do differently.
P.S thanks for reading this mind dump of a post, I'm writing while it's fresh but I'm tired AF.6 -
Mr Fucking Robot. What an episode. Mind fucked up in the end. This season starts so average and now it's just getting dope. Brilliant writing.8

Why Evil Corp did not have its servers on a cloud provider?
(This question is about any big corporation with a whole bunch of servers. I quoted Evil Corp because the question came thinking about it.)16 -
A couple of months ago I watched all 3 seasons of 'Halt and Catch Fire'. I thought it was excellent. If im honest I enjoyed it more than mr robot (and I loved that). Still not seen Silicon Valley though (it's gonna cost too much).7

Question about MR. Robot. I seen 3676 used in the series before but I have no clue what they mean by it.
When s04e02 came out there was a link with puzzle obviously and well it spelled out 3676.
Somebody can explain ?8 -
Just started watching mr Robot, not liking that much to be honest, but still decided to give it a try. Then mr robot takes out the piece of paper with a wrong IP address on and I'm like =_= "is this for real or are they joking with me"?14

Area of focus: security and automation
Why: before I turned 18 i was a hacker for 5 years and i saw the kind of crap security most websites and programs had and even if the site was secure you could usually email somebody with a spoofed email and get in. And when i say hacker i mean i wrote my own stuff not skiddy.8 -
A contact of mine asked me to try and recover emails she had deleted from her gmail. I told her if this is the case, I cannot help and she needed to contact google.
Unfortunately, she wouldn't accept this and kept asking me to try, so I reluctantly gave it a shot.
As I thought there was nothing I could do.
I am now half expecting her to ask me to try and access googles backups.
IM A GAMES DEVELOPMENT STUDENT, NOT MR ROBOT!1 -
Damnit, devrant! I started watching Mr Robot because of you, and now I'm going to be up all night binge watching.
-
The entire show of Mr. Robot is a circle jerk of people trying to one-up eachother! It's pure insanity!!
-
Mr Robot Season 2 finale was exactly what we wanted , but at the same time didn't expected to happen at all.
-
How do you guys feel about privacy after watching series like "Person of interest" or "Mr Robot" ?11

Here I am, 3:18 am, maybe I won't sleep today either, I hope I do... I'm going on with my uni project, a data science project. I've been wasting hours trying to understand why the fUcK 2 dataframes give me substantially different performances when they fucking shouldn't, since they should be the fUcKing sAmE. But apparently pandas is making fun of me... it seems that if you do something like:
df=original_df.loc[:, [some_cols]]
and some columns in [some_cols] don't exist in original_df, pandas won't give a shit and create a NaN column, or 0 based on how many virgin leprechauns ate bananas for Thanksgiving.
Plus I'm fucking freezing, in this apartment the heating system turns off at 23:59, it makes sense if you're in the fucking bed where you'll be fucking warm.
I miss software development... I wanna finish this MSc as soon as possible.
And here I am, listening to post-rock, writing jupyter notebooks, trying to be fucking positive.
It's not like I hate data science (maybe?), but I'm burnout.
Maybe I'll rewatch another time the video of Mr Robot with the song Where Is My Mind.
See ya.2 -
I started to learn backend development for help a friend with his idea for an startup. i learn the basics in one week. then we put the hands on the project.
the first week everything was ok, we make progress fast and get things done, second week my productivity go to the floor. i found my self trying to do hacky stuff every day. never reach solutions. i was a mess.
Today i just broke, inclusive with my main Data Science projects im feeling bad. i quit everything a start watching Mr. Robot.
Right now i feels truly bad, but i have no option, tomorrow i will pit my hands again on all this shit, what more i can do? this is what i want to do.
The suffering and stress seems to be part of this job. We can only keep going.6 -
I'm working as a cnc operator. I've ask for some txt files, cos I wanted to write a small help to the job management. He said it's ok, but he can't gove me the files, cos there is some problem with the system, he'll have to call the IT department. When he clicked to the file, notepad popped up instead of wordpad and it messed up the outlook of the text. So when I've changed the default applicaton to all txt files to wordpad, he looked at me like I would be Mr. Robot...

What is everyone's opinion on companies/organisations 'too big to fail'...?
I was just pondering on how 'just Google it' has become so 'natural' as a way of saying search the Internet. The more I think about it, the less I like it.
I know the chances of them failing/crumbling are neary zero (hence the name) but if an org, Ie Alphabet, made some shit decisions and bankrupted their company, what would happen then? Any ideas? I don't mean in terms of social fallout, economic etc.
I mean in terms of network infrastructure, them being such a central part of 'the web', all their Dns services, their backbone links, Google drive, Google fiber etc. What would happen to all user data? Just be destroyed?
I've never 'seen' a large tech company collapse, but just wander as to how that process would work for such a huge organisation, and the literal mountains of data they have which will need destroying or relocating.
Inb4 watch Mr robot hurrr7 -
seems like halt and catch fire will never be able to gather audience because it is too techy like mr robot. In my opinion they should release it as online series1
-
I'm back !
Also with a question, what tv shows do you watch 🤔, silicon valley is a given , what about Mr robot?
But I find that alot of intelligent people hate big bang theory.25 -
I like Mr Robot, but is everyone getting the censored version where they remove every mention of the word fuck? It's all f-king removed in any *ing version I found.15

A project on hive....
Well the server has some error....
So i need to install hive on windows....
For that i need hadoop on windows...
For that i need either vmware or cygwin...
Done!
What was my project again?? -
Am I the only one who isn't really that bothered by Mozilla's mistake with Firefox and that Mr robot thing?
They made a big fuck-up, yes, but do you think they'll do it again? I don't.
They aren't a perfect company, but neither is anyone fucking else! They're still helping the web, giving grant money to open source, and have the best docs I've found, so I think this is just a misstep, not a red flag.2 -
Just slogged through the first 9 episodes of Mr. Robot on the shitty USA Now app, just realized I could watch it with Amazon Prime. At least I can watch the last one of this season without commercials or censoring1
-
Stranger Things, apart from Mr. Robot, has the best implementation of computer hacking I've seen in a "television" show! Just straight up CODE.2
-
Fuck you fucking Amazon Video!
Wanted to watch the second part of the Mr. Robot series finale, but Amazon Germany has only the first available.
Both parts aired yesterday evening on USA Today, so I'm ANGRY!
Luckily, there are other ways, so maybe it was a little "Hacker-Challenge"...
But still, with all episodes they could have flunked it has to be the finale!3 -
* Automated Technical and Fundamental Expert Advisor trading in MT4 with Python dealing with RSS News Feed on the Financial Calendar
* Food decision/recommender/randomizer app
* Food decision/recommender/randomizer bot
* Personal Companion set up on Raspberry Pi with Jasper AI, buy BrickPi and Lego Mindstorm to make it a friendly moving robot
* Cardboard fort for my kid
* A 3D game that involves hacking with drama storyline (inspired from Mr. Robot) and publish it on Steam
* A SaaS app like Tinder that matches would-be Project Managers with Devs to push Devs to finish side projects that we have and push Project Managers to use whatever PM techniques and methodology (Six Sigma perhaps)
And so much more... Ughh. -
Looking for the keyboard Elliot uses In season 1 on mr robot and I found a bug
TECHNICALLY it's displaying the correct CSS...just the CSS code instead 😂2 -
Anyone got any show recommendations? a year for Game of Thrones is killer. I really enjoyed Mr Robot, it was dark, moody and pushed the lines. Vikings is great, I find historical shows really interested when executed right. Just started watching Marco Polo.14
-
the final season of mr. robot and a sudden usecase had me looking into python again after a long time. forgot way too many basic things. 6 hours to open a csv and applying some regex filters from a json setting file? really? not exactly helpful while fantasizing about a developer career, or maybe the necessary hint to stick to the decent job that pays the bills.2
-
That feeling when people complain about the censored Mr Robot and you are watching a version with all the "fucking fuck"s properly translated into your language. God bless America!
-
Started watching the first season of Mr Robot. But I got bored by the end of the fourth episode; don't get the flow of the story; plus too much nudity and like genders kissing is gross. 😔😣
Opinions?39
