For a really long time I said to myself that this is too basic to rant about but lately it became so frequent and extreme that here is my rant about completely clueless users that ask me IT related questions.
Disclaimer: Said users are people that I generally can't avoid. Distant family members, neighbors and etc.
U: I don't know what's happening!! The computer doesn't work!!
M: What do you mean?
U: There's no Facebook! And everything is stuck and no messenger!!!
M: The WiFi on your laptop was off. I turned it on. Still, this doesn't mean that the pc wasn't working.
U: I don't understand this shit!!!
U: I hate this computer!!! It never works!!! Help meeee!!!
M: What now?
U: Where did the internet disappear?!
M: (assuming it's wifi or browser related)
Actually user moved the Chrome window to bottom-right corner and lost it.
Every time I try to show the user how I resolve the issue the user yells that there are too many steps, that they are complicated and that I'm a bad teacher and doing it too fast.
U: My computer is so slow! It barely can load google translate! And I can't listen to music on youtube!! Shitty laptop! It's you! Your computers in the apartment drain everything!!!
M: You have no idea what you are talking about.
U: My husband told me that your computers are heavy and drain everything!
M: What exactly did he tell you that my devices drain?
U: I don't know! All the energy! I believe him! He knows!
M: My computers drain less electricity than your vacuum and I have a separate internet connection. Not only we share nothing but also I drain nothing.
U: Since you appeared all the computers are slow!!!!
U: I don't understand, where is my whatsapp?
M: You can't locate the app on your phone?
U: Yes! F*ck, help me! I'm so angry and I really need this NOW!!!
M: Shut up. I'm already here and helping.
(I open users phone and whatsapp is the active app...)
U: I can' t find my whatsapp with Clara!
F*ck you! F*ck you! Ghckjfshij!!!
(crazy hitting on my door)
U: I don't have THE internet!!!
It's you again! You took all of THE internet!!!
M: No, it doesn't work like that. Your provider is bad, your package is cheap and your cables are of low quality.
U: I need THE internet immediately!!! Stop playing with your typing and fix the facebook or I'll cut the power cables to the house!!
I can go on, just don't think that recalling all those events is healthy for me.20
You know what? Fuck this shit. We spend most of our life locked down in a school, we are being told facts, tested and stressed for many years with the only hope to get out as soon as possible.
Failing is something that keeps you there indefinitely.
Parents keep pushing on kids to achieve the best and get good grades to have a job.
Then something happens.
You get out of school and what happens?
You start working.
A.k.a modern slavery...
Employers thinks that since you are young they are doing YOU a favor if they decided to hire you.
So you find yourself having to do the same tasks everyone is doing, perhaps you are even fully capable of managing them and get the shit done but guess what!!
You are paid the minimum.
You barely make enough to pay off your rent which keeps you locked away from Holidays abroad, from that huge cake you desperately want.
And guess what! Try to raise your voice and you'll get fired in a Matter of seconds, replaced with someone else which accepts any condition.
You dream of a house, a family and a car but you can't even eat healthy with that salary.
So you are forced to buy cheap and low quality food from the same store again and again till you had enough and spend some days with that horrible feeling...
Calling you to get a job interview feels like they are doing you a favor, they always try to give the minimum possible and expect you to work in a serious manner and respect their deadlines.
Colleagues earn a lot more even though they aren't doing anything different from you.
For the first year you won't have any holiday, let alone traveling or anything different from just staying home for 3 days straight.
Banks won't give you a loan because your job doesn't pay off
The day that your car is broken you struggle to eat the whole month.
On top of that, taxes. Because they aren't taking away enough.
I don't want to live this life, I don't want to become a modern slave and work 8-17 everyday for the rest of my life and retire with a shitty retirement pension that won't probably grant me anything again.
I had enough of this shit.
I don't want to go back to work and pretend to do what I am supposed to do with a smile on my face knowing that I am just a number and that no matter how skilled I am I can always get replaced with N number of people for a lower salary of mine.
I am tired
I dream of a life that I won't ever reach this way.
Today I looked up houses prices and felt like shit.
I will never in my entire life be able to afford something so expensive, let alone buying furnitures and what is needed or what I like.
I dream of having my place, my dog and my family but apparently I am asking too much.
How is this even fair in 2018/2019?
I... I am... Speechless.
I wonder how many people out there are in the same situation or even worse and I can't even wrap my mind around that.
This is just modern slavery.
My boss makes a shit load of money from young people that can't complain because they are threatened and will eventually be replaced...
This is my rant.35

Yesterday I met with a potential client who wanted a website. I gave him a quote of X. He said, do this work for X/2 as I have lots of projects and I can keep you engaged for months.
If it was 2 years ago, I'd have happily accepted his proposal. But in the past 2 years I have learned this lesson hard way. Don't work for clients who don't pay well, because when a developer is not paid enough, the quality of work degrades. Hence the portfolio is degraded and so the future projects are also of low budget.
And before you know it, you will be surrounded by low paying clients who see you as a Skilled Labour.
Today, I don't negotiate, not even a single dollar. To justify my cost I make sure that no stones are left unturned while delivery.
It's better to work for 10 hours a week for 40$/hr then to work 40 hours a week for 10$/hr.4
when I was a kid, I got banned from stackoverflow because my question was not good enough, and from 2 low quality questions they never allowed me to post there ever again.
They're really unforgiving. Which is why I try to help n00bs on stackoverflow get that initial rep12
Stack Overflow. Everyone uses it but everyone seems to hate the community. I very often read about someone getting down voted and they all say the same thing - "I have no idea why".
I have spent a lot of time moderating SO posts, which gave me a lot of reputation and medals. I find it fun to help people and it feels good to give back to the community.
I have asked a bunch of questions and I've never gotten a single down vote, which leads me to believe everyone of you that is constantly getting down voted are doing something wrong. Because the posts I see getting down voted are fucking stupid questions that either lack information or contain too much information.
Server java error
Why is my server not working? I am using Tomcat, port 8080 and I'm getting IOException.
Webpack configuration not working
My webpack is not a working, why?
[entire webpack config]
What the fuck are you expecting asking questions like these?? No one gets paid for answering your questions, so the least you can do is write a CLEAR AND UNDERSTANDABLE question. I'm not gonna tell you how to do it because there's A LOT of information on how to do it.
People devote hours and hours to helping others on SO, and of course they get fed up with the stupid and lazy questions. That community is not about being nice, it's not about making people feel welcomed, it's about QUALITY OF CONTENT. No one is crying when they find a superb question + answer, right? That's the result of a community not accepting low quality content.
So please, the next time you get a down vote on SO - do not come here whining about it but instead take a look at what you have posted there and ask yourself if it could have held a higher quality.
"I strive for code quality and maintainability. I actually do. And i will not work for a company that does not care about it and just wants something done as fast as possible.
The only time i will do something quick and dirty is if it's actually urgent. And even then with one condition - my next task will be to fix it properly.
I do not care about your deadlines. I will do my best to meet them, but not at the expense of code quality. I've seen too many projects fall into technical debt, where productivity is so low, that the only way to move forward is hire more people and start working on a project 2.0
And please do not lie about how great your company is, if it's not. These kind of things surface very soon, and you will have wasted both of our time, because as i said - i will not work for a company that does not care about code quality."
you think i'll ever get a job again if i put this on my CV ? :D10
Everyday single day I have to give time for family, personal work and office. Prioritized in that order.
End result : low quality family time, pending personal projects. Office work - well that one is OK I guess cos the time is dedicated.
Solution : made a deal with wife - one day on weekend dedicated for family (she can plan anything she wants) and I will not do any work. Other day dedicated for my personal work/time (no family plans).
Divide weekdays similarly. On family days I checkout at sharp 4pm from office and come home straight spend the rest of the day with family alone. On the other days I stay either at office or go somewhere to work or hangout with dev buddies.
End result: Quality family time. No interruption when coding (a dev would understand the importance of this). More productive work.6
I mean, I like the concept. The private, highly customizable search engine is what we all need.
But if 4/5 times I have to use 'g!' just to find some really basic stuff, because the results are incorrect or point to low quality content then what's the point of using it in the first place?! It's really frustrating especially if I try to find something in Polish or Dutch, but even in English most of the time the search results sucks!53
And so I have ranted earlier about how a panelist during my thesis defense told me that my algorithm is not an algorithm because it needs mathematical equations to be called an algorithm. I also told you guys that I facepalmed during the course of the interrogation.
Now I failed my thesis because I facepalmed. I quit school because of that but now I'm a better career person than him. I already started my freelance team and earning more than double his salary and he's still suck at being a low quality professor.7
Alright, I've had it. I was scrolling through Walmart when I saw a kititchen utensil holder with a BLUETOOTH SPEAKER? Who needs this? It probably doesn't even sound that good. I am getting tired of people slapping a Bluetooth speaker in random objects. Someone gave me a Bluetooth flower pot for Christmas. Why do you need a bunch of low quality speakers in random objects? I don't get it.14

Well fuck you too, SO. :P2
TL;DR: Printers suck. MS-Word sucks.
Yesterday I wanted to print a few participation certificates for my blender project students.
*Turns on printer, runs downstairs, gets paper, runs upstairs, puts paper in*
So I tried to print in word. Nothing happened. Printer was online. I checked queue: Nothing.
*a couple of tries later*
Okay, fuck it! I export it as a pdf and open it in edge (8 times. 8 documents. Edge is a neat pdf-viewer, fight me). I press print on one. It works. I print the others and check: They look shit. The images look like 25% resolution and 50% jpg compression. I check word.
It by default exports in low quality. Yea, thanks for asking me. I export pdfs again and check "high quality". Open them, print. Done.
These were like 30 wasted minutes and print color. And paper.
Btw they look fucking neat. I can't show them right now but gradient text headline, project name is a rendered and edited 3D object :D4
Finally got my Bluetooth earphones!
It's called Pamu Scroll, funded in Indiegogo.
I bought it for $49 without shipping fee.
Now let me write a review about it here after using for about an hour or so.
Shipment from China is slow and hard to track unless it is classified as EMS, which mine wasn't, obviously.
It has some shock protection layer, but without that, nope! It was staying still inside the packaging though.
Beautiful. Just beautiful. Period. Just see the picture below.
It opens as a papyrus, maybe that's why it is called Pamu Scroll. Both the case's end, and earphones itself has magnets to hold each other.
It has a leather feeling to both the inside and outside of the case, and the touch control area of the earphones is also leather feeling, adding a nice touch that differs with other earphonnes.
The diamond feeling finish in the end of the case makes the case itself isn't earphones, more like some expensive jewelry case.
My ears are smaller than most people, for I am young, so it sometimes fall off when I jump, but when I put it the correct way, never falls out.
I am not an audiophile. I don't really care about the audio quality and how it sounds like unless the sound is too cringy and has so many white noise.
This earphones has white noise, but just a little bit, you won't notice except when you are in a quiet room.
The bass is boosted, but low sounds, and vocals can be cringy sometimes, so I should manually tune them with my phone's equalizer.
Not tested yet, but they advertise as using it in the shower.
7. Stereo call
Yup. Stereo call. Call in both ears. But only right microphone seems to get the voice.
Using BT 5, it is a breeze to connect.
Take both of them out, put to your ear, then ding! "Connected"
wireless charging for optional purchase - 10 bucks
You have 3.5 hrs of listening time in both ears, and you can charge 2 times more each by putting in the case.
Overall, it is awesome and let's just pray it doesn't break for at least for an year.
One side note, I can activate assistant by double tapping in the left ear (yes it is touch control), but my S8 asks me if I want to customize with Automate/Tasker. Yup!
Will share that later as well.
If you have any questions, ask me! Thanks for reading my first ever product review in devRant! <314
The feeling when random dudes downvote a question, because a guy who finally earned some points on SO dared to format the code with `<code>`<br> He pasted code, log, even explained a little bit and ~500 point guy even flags it like _unclear_ although there's clearly visible import error.
I mean... as an answerer or moderator, I'd be damn ashamed for such behavior! I have absolutely no problem kick a person with words + explanation in my answer or comment, so that (s)he remembers to ask better questions and feels bad about that, because nooby questions are already answered so many times there.
But to downvote because of formatting even if you have a permission to edit and a flag for low quality or because you can't read ~40 lines of log makes you just a retard and hurt the whole remaining community of guys like me who find time to sit there and answer questions to help another people.7
Bloggers are the biggest scum bags ever. Mind me, I'm not talking about the people who blog about something they love, are passionate about and focus on the quality of content.
I'm talking about those people who blog for money, put low quality content and are sucking everyone's dick for views. I've no respect for them. They'll start blogs about the topics they know shit about and will add duplicate content. And then they'll call themselves SEO experts.
You're shit bags. Don't decrease the name of blogging. We all start somewhere and often copy but doing it as a beginner and doing it for money is different.
I'll take example of one genius person I know. He runs a blog where he his topic was essentially about "Laptops for Indian students which are under 30,000 Indian rupees."
Title of that article read: LAPTOPS IN INDIA UNDER $500.
YOU'RE WRITING A BLOG POST FOR INDIAN STUDENTS AND USING US CURRENCY IN THE TITLE. WE ALL SEARCH IN RUPEES WHEN BUYING ONLINE.
I love bloggers who focus on quality of the content and take pride in crafting their content. You're awesome. But if you're one of those "professional bloggers" then suck my dog's dick.13
This is a major part of my workflow, and I wanted people to see it. So I went an inch-deep on quicktime screen recording and ffmpeg flags to produce this low-quality gif.
I pop open the alfred text window with cmd-space, and have it set to use DDG as my default search provider fallback. In this way, I'm able to execute bang-searches without having to load any urls, or even move the pointer.
What kinds of productivity/workflow tricks do you use?14
Don't you just love customers?
It al began when they showed us the flyers they were printing for their new products, an some one at our company who doesn't work here anymore had the brilliant idea of copying it to their webshop, as a fucking gimmick... Ooohh man the customer didn't seem to understand it was only visually
They wanted the 3d layering effect to be dynamic, so each product would have its own with custom colours
So it was made
A few weeks later they didn't want the informational text, they wanted links to each product that the layer uses
Sounded like logical so it was made
Again some time later, they noticed that the layers were not textured, but just plain
I argued against it because it would add unnecessary loading time for some 300 by 400 px element but they insisted
So they got what they wanted
A few days later they said that the textures were of low quality, and that we had to create ones with higher quality
Again our management said, yes
We made ~ twice the size of the element in image pixels to create a higher definition image
Then the customer wanted that the layers should change based on some selection menu above it
(At this point we realized that it would no longer be just a fun little gimmick)
So we tried to refactor/rebuild it to remove most if not all the hacks we did just to make the customer happy, that took too long for them (the customer) so we had to revert back to the hacked together version because otherwise we would not be done on time (commanded by management)
But again, we ... I say 'we' as in the company but realistically I've been the only one who has worked on the fucking abomination
But I digress...
A few stupid requests later, some layer images are almost fully transparent PNG images that are almost 1mb in Filesize each (some products have 5 or even more layers) and the god damn thing now has to account for optional layers...
I AM FUCKING SPENT... I'VE JUST CAME BACK FROM VACATION BUT I ALREADY NEED IT AGAIN... FUCKING WORKING 60 HOURS A WEEK JUST TO KEEP ONE CUSTOMER HAPPY WHILE OTHER PROJECTS BREATH ON MY NECK1
Today I finally experienced the power of something I learned in university: propositional and predicate logic.
Many developers I know think that such education is useless. Well, today I have proven that it is very useful. On a day to day basis, working on banking software, complexity in purely logic is very low. However, we have a screen that must show or hide elements based on some input values and conditions associated with certain elements. How hard can that be, right? Well, there are many variables to take into account and as such it's absolutely not trivial.
This screen didn't work properly and maintaining the code is hard as there is a lot of logic to show/hide, enable/disable things and so on. After quite some time and attempts by fellow developers, I decided to refactor the whole thing. I'm responsible for the quality of the software and it was quite degrading, so I had to do something.
In order to get things working properly, I defined collections of constants (ui elements) and predicates. Then, I defined for which element what predicates must be true, in order to hide/show, disable/enable etc. I then translated these predicates into code. And guess what? It works! Of course it works. It's logic. But I'm very pleased I finally could actually use some of all the math I studied!5
Hey. Can I borrow your ears for 5 minutes?
Since I've been out of school, I've often felt that even though I've learned how to code, the education went into a totally direction than the one I want to go. Of course a school can't teach you everything perfectly, but having almost no experience in frontend (mind you we learned the BAREST basics) just makes me feel entirely empty in that regard stepping up to a company. I've been pretty loaded during school, since I was struggling with a lot of things so I couldn't really find myself pursueing the direction of coding frontend apps being fun. I needed the little time I had to blow off steam playing games etc.
So the few things I know are all self taught, but I was never given a hand been shown best practices or solid advice where to look. Sitting down now at my pc trying to learn ReactJS for example feels incredibly draining and difficult, since we've never done JS in school ONCE. All the C# experience barely helps, since with ES6 being rolled out parallel to "normal" JS it's even harder to me to connect the lego blocks that is frontend development. Since many best practices are applied to ES6, I can barely even tell what previous practice they are replacing, making the entire picture even more spongy. In one sentence it's very overwhelming.
I've thought I'd apply maybe as a UX/UI Designer since I've got a great visual sense (confirmed countlessly by many, friends and strangers alike) maybe contributing to the frontend part that way. But as I was applying I've noticed that chances are seemingly pretty low to get accepted since it seems you've got zero reputition if you don't have a degree in Design.
It breaks me apart. I could probably apply as a frontend developer, but I am not sure if I would be happy doing that on the long run. Since just fucking around in Photoshop creating things seems like no effort and brings me joy, as compared to coding out lines for example.
I wanted to make money after school, improve on myself and my quality of life since I've drained that entirely for the sake of my education. Not spiral into another couple years just to eventually maybe get in the direction I want to.
On the flipside going into frontend dev with 0 skills, 0 experience, but being expected to have 2 years of hands on experience with the newest frameworks makes me feel empty and worthless.
I often hand out advice to other people on devRant, but this is the one time where I need some. Desperately. I feel shattered inside, getting out of bed in the morning has no incentive to me since I'll just feel like shit all day, watching YouTube to cheer me up temporarily, only to feel immense remorse not spending the day learning or improving on myself. Barely anything brings me joy. I don't wanna call myself depressive, but maybe I am just dodging the term and I am exactly that.
Thanks If you've read through this monstrosity of a rant/story. I'd be glad if you'd be so kind to give me a different take on my situation or a new perspective.
I am stepping on the spot and I am slowly dying inside because of it.
It dreads me to say it, but I need help.12
!dev but working via a Dev firm..
So these dudas hired me to cut and edit videos for them and get to know them (considering to work as web dev after studies, good way to start they said..) sure bit of an extra income..why not..
First clips I get, butthurt ass image quality with low ass sound that not even my grandma with here hi-tech super eardevice could hear a shit..
secondly who the fuck films a company video with a mobile phone in hands.. not even a fucking tripod... The angles are all over the shitfaced scene and your shaking like a fucking dildo vibrates.. "oh fix it with warp, it's easy".
FUUCK YOU! If I tell you these pieces of shit clips aren't even worth posting on Snapchat stories, how the fuck could you even consider using them for companies?!
Every god damn client video has shitty as dildo vibrating Slenderman light quality... Come one! And you want me to consider working for you as a front end developer (where I probably still will have to go through these pills of shit videos)?! Mate.. you better think twice about that...
Ps. Yes I have consulted them regarding these issues and no.. considering that these piles of shit still come my way they haven't taken my advices..(╯°□°）╯︵( .o.)
(Had to steam out somewhere.. ☕)
The biggest problem of a social media platform when it gets popular enough is how to handle low quality media that people post.
Facebook clearly sucks at this.
13 ways of doing *
7 things *
Even when you have not subscribed to those kind of pages.
Instagram is doing a bit better but I can see low quality posts popping up as the vultures are now targetting Instagram more after Facebook's fall.3
Over the last few weeks, I've learned two things about the head of my division:
1. They "don't care about code quality"
2. They want to try a "low-code" approach for the web frontend of a completely custom piece of what is currently desktop software
This is despite the fact that we have three full time developers with a wide range of both front and back end skills on the payroll, a deep library of existing components for various frontend frameworks, a custom CSS library, and a decent deployment pipeline for frontend code.
But sure, let's try low-code. Let's see how far that gets us.
Yeah, I should change this old 5:4 epic low quality display. PC: i5-4460x4 8gb RAM running as support / Laptop: Acer VN7-791G i7-4720HQx4 16gb RAM 17". Mouse and keyboard shared with Synergy.9
Since I already got fired I don't have problems start uploading my tutorials at the middle of next month...
First... Where should I put them? I'll Make a written tutorial, and Video tutorials, so I need a good cheap web provider and some places like Instructables, but I would like the possibility of gaining some money with some of the stuff.
Btw, Already have one... Maby some can help?
I have an unmounted HDD (3 pins or 4 pins, must work: With no driver and no extras... I know it's possible, just can't find the Information. Then I'll make a video on how to make the same thing with chips (not MCUs) and finally with MCUs). Since there isn't much information around there about this, would be a great 3/4 video tutorial.
I know I can make it work without the board or drivers since I already saw two Indians doing it on youtube, just couldn't understand them and the video quality is shit.
Shit will probably my first Video, but I need to find ways first.
One of the tools I already made: https://youtube.com/watch/...
The problem is using a 300w power supply for tools that require so low power.
I am just student looking for job, and got this pre interview test:
Develop an Android or iOS app with login and password input field, download button, place for image we prvided.
... reading further:
What we are looking for in the code ?
-consistent formatting of the source code
-clean, robust code without smells
-consistent abstractions and logical overall structure
-no cyclic dependencies
-code organized in meaningful layers
-low coupling and high cohesion
-descriptive and intention-revealing names of packages, classes, methods etc.
-single small functions that do one thing
-truly object-oriented design with proper encapsulation, sticking to DRY and SOLID principles, without procedural anti-patterns
-lots of bonus points for advanced techniques like design patterns, dependency injection, design by contract and especially unit (or even functional or integration) tests
-the app should be fully functional, with every state, user input, boundary condition etc. taken care of (although this app is indeed very small, treat it as a part of big production-ready project)
-the app should correctly handle screen orientation changes, device resources and permissions, incoming calls, network connection issues, being pushed to the background, signing deal with the devil :D and other platform intricacies and should recover from these events gracefully
-lowest API level is not defined - use what you think is reasonable in these days
-bonus points if the app interacts with the user in an informative and helpful way
-bonus points for nice looks - use a clean, simple yet effective layout and design
... I mean really ? and they give me like 2 days ?4
Recently, there has been this issue on StackOverflow not been friendly to beginners. I don't fully agree with that. SO is strict and rightly so because if not that, we will be flooded with repeated questions and low value answers. As a programmer, I believe when I go to SO, I want an answer quickly and fast because most at times, I'm programming and the problem I have is preventing me from moving forward. To be flooded by repeated and low quality questions and answers wouldn't help anyone. Also, on most beginner programming tutorials, were people are advised to check sites like SO when they have problems, most of them tell their listeners or readers to check if the question has been asked before, before going ahead to ask. Even SO assists you when typing your question with similar questions just to make sure you don't ask repeated questions. I rarely downvote but I understand those who do. Also, there is this talk about 'inclusivity' and some relating it to gender. It looks like people tend to slap gender and race on everything these days. To make this clear, I'm not a white male so that one wouldn't say the system favors me so I don't see the problem. The fact SO collects data about developers and it comes out that, most of the partakers are males doesn't mean SO is favoring males. SO doesn't show your gender when you ask a question. It doesn't even show your gender in your profile so what's the issue here? It will be better to get to the root of why there are few females in computer engineering and solve it there rather than blaming a site because of data collected. To know where this rant is coming from, just search StackOverflow on twitter and read the recent tweets.6
Fuck Swift. Such a garbage language. The last 3 days I tried multiple web server implemented in Swift for mocking API's and none of them worked. Old, not maintained, wrong documentation, wrong code examples and just low quality shit.
Finally I decided to not give a crap and move to use Wiremock and it works out of the box, start and configuration is a breeze and it just plainly works. I should have done that from the beginning.
Btw., as a warning these were the frameworks I used and you should avoid them if possible: Swifter, Embassy, Ambassador and Succulent.2
I was so fed up with these time-wasting low quality YouTube tutorials. Then I stumbled across these really good egghead.io videos. However, the PRO subscription is expensive for me. Anyone else have tried it before?1
TLDR: need advice about CS degree, worth it or not?
Already for some time I have been thinking about getting back to studying and finally for once get that fucking bachelor degree.
I have tried to study already 2 times. Both had quit not even after single year of studies.
First time was CS in my origin country, quality was really bad, so I quit during first semester.
Second time I moved to the Netherlands to study AI. Liked it a lot, but it was quite too much for me, I wasn’t ready for commitment to learn all parts of brains, all neurological diseases and stuff like that. Quit during 2nd semester.
Also, I have been in industry for 4 years now, working as php web developer. I am 22. Have a well paid job.
I want to study CS again, with specialization of cyber security, but in NL (same uni I studied AI, so I expect good quality). Also, as I already know programming, and a lot of other cs stuff, I expect I will need invest less time, and so I can also work in some company part time or even full time.
So in my consideration following are pros and cons of my this decision:
- I will be forced to learn basic cs stuff like memory management, how processes work in low level... And so I will be able to write better quality software.
- I will satisfy my parents wishes and also will be only one in my family with bachelor degree and I want my parents to be proud of me.
- I will meet like minded people, new friends, connections and will have higher probability to find a girlfriend.
- After getting degree, I will have possibility to work for government institutions, but I think this one should be in cons.
- No serving in military during study period (mandatory in my country for 9 months if you were called. till age 26 only)
- minus 9k euros
- minus 3 years of my free, undisciplined life
- a lot of sleepless nights
- possibility of getting depressed and questioning the meaning of life (but working in industry has the same effect)
Well, can’t actually think of something else.
I would like to hear your opinions on this, especially of people who had positive study experience. Thanks.6
Ok so I'm working at this bank that hired me as a lead dev to do something about the quality of the software. Now we have CI builds with front end and back end unit tests, sonarqube, coding standards and much more. First release.of our software had only 1 low impact defect! All other software they released in the past always has dozens of bugs.
Now I have this front end guy in my team. He thinks he is really good and actually said my front end skills suck. What?? Wtf you saying? I'm truly full stack and doing front end way longer than he does and already did many many successful projects for awesome well known companies. So he refactores some JS component I wrote. Now this component is very simple but needed to look and behave different on different devices and screen sizes. It was working perfectly. Our tester did extensive tests on all sorts of devices and browsers: worked perfectly.
So, this 'front end king' is now already in the 3rd week of making changes to this component. And still it is not working properly. And he doubts my front end skills?!
Hahahaha go fuck yourself you god damn piece of fucking front end retard!! Everything you make doesn't worl right away and needs at least 4 revisions. Fuck you!2
Started my first experience with Udemy yesterday. The video seems to be buffering occasionally and switching to low quality frequently which makes it hard to read what's on the screen. I'm not happy about that the least bit. Is that normal for Udemy?
Also, I bought a course for €10 that was supposedly discounted from something like €200. I assume this is a marketing trick? Do all courses always have those kinds of "discounts"?9
Oh I just gotta love how low quality selenium is. Gotta love the fact that sometimes you need to commit your code 5 times before selenium tests do not fail completely randomly and the whole commit is rollbacked. Like I don't fucking have other shit to do other than wait for these retarded tests to finish just to expect that with 90% probability they are going to fail because selenium is a huge pile of poop when it comes to UI tests. Also testers do not seem to give a single fuck since they just keep writing more of those instead of making old test more stable, fucking awesome.
