Here's what it ended up being like!20 -
I was recuited to do devops work for a client. The project started in late '14. Until mid '15 I was forced to just sit there and do nothing. And I mean nothing. The ops team needed my help but the project lead didn't allow that (endless discussions). Somewhere around the end of '15 I could start to work and quickly learned that I had to report to two leads that couldn't disagree more on what to do and how to do it. I also learned that the companies mentality is "Clean me but don't get me wet". So the ops team demands a lot but is really uncooperative with everything. So I am currently sitting between three grindstones and everything I do is worthless. Because nobody agrees with anybody and I cannot fulfill my job for which I have been hired: Make ops more efficient because they are drowning in manual work. My job is further complicated by the following facts: This company uses no standard whatsoever but their own. Thru this they have created a Rube-Goldberg-Machine. But they think their system is the greatest in the world and the only one that makes sense. Which makes automation pointless because it is not maintainable. They call it diversity and they say that it is the clear reason why automation is not for them even though they schedule meeting after meeting in which they discuss about how to automate things. But in general they do just block everything useful and sabotage my work. And behind my back they make me the reason for the fail. Every real decision is blocked anyway. Also the ops guys think they are the leetest in the world. And everything they invent is above and beyond. If you ask them why they have over 400 VLANs for example (in a company of unter a thousand employees) they stutter and stumble because they cannot explain their complicated shit. They also change their decisions like underwear. Another really "kewl" thing they just did: They hired a devops engineer and everybody loves him. During the interview he said that he has no prior experience with devops whatsoever and it will take him around six month to get started on the basics of devops. I could go on for hours here about the insanity of this company that in my opinion will cease to exist within the next 5 years, if you ask me.
Long story short I am getting out of there by the end of march and will be on sabbatical shortly after because I am burned out. And I mean burned out. Not like "Oh I am burned out". I mean really burned out, with health problems and everything. Another external guy got out here last month because of the same health conditions.4 -
My GF is a non-tech-savvy linguistics bachelor who uses elementaryOS as her only operating system on her only laptop. I'm not responsible for this, I only helped her install it instead of Windows when she asked me to do so.
She's a living proof that the stereotype of Linux being "too hard" or "exclusively for geeks" is outdated to say the least. Yes, Ubuntu and elementaryOS are not as kewl as Arch and Gentoo, but they are still better than a popular blue-colored American operating system that sends unencrypted screenshots of your desktop to some unknown IP addresses every 10 minutes.32 -
Releasing a new shipping console.
Every day I've told them to let me know when ANYTHING goes wrong.
I released it last week on Tuesday.
Yesterday.. they came with some missing options. Ok fine. I fixed them. Then repeated the same sentence: Let me know DIRECTLY when ANYTHING goes wrong!
Today, I planned to leave early and tomorrow I have a day off.
30 min before I leave;
hi, something's wrong, I told X yesterday.
GOD FUCKING DAMNIT;!!!!!5 -
My fellow IT-er just posted this picture of him being on his way to where I am now. But as far as I know, this isn't "station0" city .. xD10

First off, what do you mean by ´people like me´?
Do I look like an outer-space creature to you when you look at my profile? Or are you looking for a do-not-feed sign at the side of my wooden fence?
What even, .. I'm human, like you, you moron with a missing 'sapien'.
It's kinda ironic, as you can't even abide the maximum length your message has, which you speak of. Therefore I reckon you lost the second 'sapien' too.
Yes, now you may call me "people", and yourself... well you're mute. You monkey.
Just rambling. /ignored6 -
Dear Windows,
y is it that Windows Defender is suddenly closing down apps, I opened on my own, and have been using and interacting with for ages since I installed this OS?
How the fuck is this unwanted software?
Fuck you.13 -

— it’s not going to shrink on small screens. Maybe we can put them in column for narrower widths?
— NO! They should overlap and I don’t care how you’ll do that!
So I stripped a responsive viewport, now the website is not responsive, but yes, we have “kewl and pwetty overwapping bwocks”, congratulations! -

Met @condor irl today. He's the same weird guy as I feel at moments. Interests that don't interest people around us in any way..
Drank some beers, evidently called Belgium.
He came all the way to the town I work at.. kudos!
Talked about breadboards taking 230V via cables that aren't meant to take the voltage in any way.. Security implications in networks and online services, like Fb. Faraday's cage & how it works; and some other shit I swear I won't tell anyone about as you should be comfortable discussing it.
Quite interesting, I swear! (:
Now on the bus home, as I had to cut it short to get to some parental business... But I'm looking back on some positive social interaction, which I'll gladly re-do another time.
Condor, it was sure nice to meet ya. I'll come your way next time. That ~10eu for your transport will be equalled some day in the near future.
@FunkDelegate sorry it was badly timed and plaved, you'll join us soon enough! At least you saw decent ass! xD3 -
So, just pulled another all-nighter..
On our platform I switched a quite big customer to another stock keeping system to pull them into automatic FEFO handling etc. Just a better stock keeping system overall.. I made it.. *self hi-5*
Evidently the crons caught that change, and CLEARED ALL THE STOCK LEVELS as they're now managed by said system...
Had to pull the counts, locations, expiry dates and lot numbers from the history table and old database fields, add them to an Excel sheet and then add all gathered locations by hand back into the new system, whilst also setting the new settings for them.
39 unique products that were gathered over 190+ sku objects... (Somebody didn't get object oriented, or was trying to KISS themselves, clearly...)
That's 6 hours of extra work for a stupid fuck up.. Oops? (:rant warehouse fuck up fuck dedication suspense stock keeping all nighter accident fulfillment dangit don't worry we'll test in production5 -
Received a Full Stack Radio t-shirt and some new stickers this week, from the creator of Tailwind CSS. The shirt was printed in the wrong size; though I'm already happily expecting one in the right size, such things happen, and they fixed it before I even received this package (USA2BEL, 2 weeks in postage...)
Happy accident along with this; double the amount of stickers!! :D (and of course, double the shirts!)6 -
First time in years I've ended up in my old pub...
Got a message from work:
"Can you please look at this order?"
(screenshot with badly synced orderlines)
*looks via 4G*
nothing wrong, was fixed by customer
quickly send a message back:
"Nothing wrong, might need to refresh your page. I see the products..
Oh, and cheers... I'm not at home for once..."

Don't fix what ain't broken.
Alright.. that might not be 100% what need to be done at times, as other out-of-scope things tend to break these things too.
Nevertheless, if you fix what ain't broken,be sure to have it working before you switch over. -

Stayed up coding all night to make sure things worked nicely. An hour before I left work yesterday, received 5 other never spoken off tasks.
none of the communication went directly by me, I just had to hear out the nonsense, but did a complete integration half a year ago
managed to do 3,8 of those task after working out and finishing the first set. became 5am.
might be because I went mental and have synced up 2repo's with idem dito codebase to be up to date to eachother (don't ask me why this is setup this way, I don't get half of their logic, hence why it doesn't work until I silently patch stuff out)
overslept by an hour.. yay me.

Was approached by a recruiter for a job in software development which could be filled by any less-experienced front-end developer in the recruiter's eyes, as long as you had basic Javascript knowledge. Turned out it was for router software/images mostly based on javascript.
They kept asking me proprietary information, which I couldn't know, yet, as I didn't work for them.

Today I was forced to write spaghetti code.
When your database structure isn't set up properly, that happens...
I'm already sure I will need to revisit this piece of literal shit when we revise that structure. Though, it'll be much easier and logical, and I'll probably be able to just delete a big part of the code and implement it as intended. -
Client wants to see his project so he can provide its content.
The product where this is based upon should be a monthly edition of grouped articles.
I've yet to see content for their concept or even legal text that makes sense.
Same person has no idea of the full concept of what he's asking, imho ending up in a Ponzi (which I've switched to a somewhat more logical system, which just might work, but just isn't a get rich quick scheme anymore as he likes to portray it).
Should I just put on a blank page and be done with it, either way?
- Either he gets it, that he needs to fill up the website's content himself
- or he's mad, that I didn't finish the job (while he's the one needing to provide at this point) -
Using the Facebook Messenger thing on a recently updated Android 8 (finally, Huawei pieces of rotten eggs) is a friggin' pain in the starhole. For the life of me I can't seem to fudging remove this damn useless notification popping up... (pic)
It's more intrusive than the app itself... D:
I guess I'll need to trash the app then.. Good fucking riddance!12 -
2020
yesterday was my last day. Got resigned.
I look forward to 2020 as I'll be able to catch up on new and updated knowledge and look forward to kicking ass in any new opportunities.

Having no process at all;
Just randomly choose between texts, FB Messenger, WhatsApp, voice clips, and spread over random points in time..
If you do this to me: Yes. I hate you. -
Debugging and fixing other shit when needing to work on an enhancement.
I think it's procrastination, but in the end the thing I'm fixing actually works as intended, so I don't have to lay eyes on it anymore... -
Note to self:
Close off ALL ways things could go wrong..
Long story short; I released a new feature, to be able to better follow up on any stock moves, their amounts, locations and even expiry dates. An older tool just bypassed that very verification and nothing was logged or taken out of stock.
~
Taking out an amount for a certain orderline has a shortcut in place to mitigate some of the mandatory steps that pickers need to take in order to verify what's being taken. This little tool only available, visible and possible for a very few select users.
I assigned some orders to one of these people, which made him think it was an urgent batch. It's only one product, for multiple orders, so he went to the location, took out the amount needed and then used the tool to quickly be able to prepare them for shipping.
This bypassed the new methods to check if the location actually had stock to take, which I had just enabled for 1 account.
Luckily I caught the miss-hap as I was monitoring that product first-hand and noticed the batch of orders was collected but the stock amount didn't update.
It was 5min before I was leaving work, so I investigated and then ran to the person in question to ask what he did; which was "I used that tool"
I facepalmed myself internally while blaming myself, as he couldn't know that it wasn't ready to use for that purpose.
The tools to fix this up are there already.. so I used that to fix some missing stock-takes manually.. Though I'll need to close that little tool for these kind of orders for sure, asap, probably when I get home, at least until I bring over its new logic to it.
Happy Tuesday? (: -
I love how frameworks and languages become more object oriented.
PHP and Javascript for example have come a very long way in the last decennia orso.
The why is obvious: logic makes sense.1 -
Dear Webmin,
how is it that you fail to update and fuck up every Apache config file existing on the server.
Why can't I just be a lazy dev tonight, instead of fixing your moronic actions upon those files, one by one.
Why is it that you frigging forget to close Directory tags properly.
Why is it that you show a Forbidden page when everything seems to be finally ok.
And why is it that I can not re-generate that shit with one button.
Fuck this shit.

My daily commute to work is tiring me the fuck out, so much I wrote this little poem to my nagging friend just now..
//
I'm in no mood to think,
life currently flows by,
extinction, on the brink.
While I stand by,
and let things sink.
//
Now I'm "lowkeyemo-san".

When every related field has a god damn different way of working with the data on hand..
For example:
`tht_date` ("Y-m-d", Date) - expiration date on the product, hence, there can be multiple of the same products with a different THT
`tht_alert` ("-2 months", varchar, DateTime modify mutation string) - sending an alert when this interval is hit, and being the activator of the tht_date field (unless value is "none")
`tht_minimum` ("28", integer, quantity of days before tht_date) - to lock them from being sent out/collected.
...
How would you expect this ×not× to become a friggin' spaghetti when trying to resolve the best row ID?
These values are in the wrong spot in the first place, then they also act entirely different in relation to eachother..
I hate the person that set this up, for doing this. When is the madness going to stop...
FFS!! -
I need your thoughts on a privacy related matter. I find this fact being very provocative.
So, at work we use Gmail:
Person AB has email AB@company.tld
Person ABC has email ABC@company.tld
How is it that when you send an e-mail to AB, that ABC sends back a god damn Out-of-office, without ABC being in either To, CC or BCC?
I reckon that the mailbox AB is owned by said company, and ABC is the owner of all those accounts. But shouldn't the contents of such mailbox still be private in some regard? (At least until AB isn't in the company anymore?)
It's funny, as a customer said she got an out of office from ABC, while solely sending one to AB.. I noticed this a few weeks back, and I'm rather infuriated by the fact that there's a possibility that every e-mail AB reveives, also ends up in in ABC's box.

Okay this is my first time posting on this site. I've browsed it (definitely not in class) and the community looks beautiful, so I'm going to just kind of slide in here. Anyways this is the part where I use my caps lock button and type lots of naughty words I guess...
<rant type = 'school'>
Our programming classes are fucking DISMAL uuugh... Okay so we have four technology classes: Tech Exploration, Coding 1, Coding 2, and Intro to CS (a 'high school' level class)... So this means a fuck ton of kids in programming classes, mostly because I WANNA MAKE MINCERAFT AND BE A KEWL BOI LIKE GAME DEV BUT I'M ALSO A FUCKING IDIOT AND WILL NOT LEARN ANYTHING YAAAAAAY but that's a mood and so there's a fucking tidal wave of dumb kids in these classes. So right we're dealing with like 80 kids per class period. Sorry if I'm repeating myself but there are a FUCKTON of students. Now, we have... wait for it... ONE FUCKING TEACHER. ONE. I fucking swear this district does not give a SINGLE SHIT about possibly THE SINGLE FUCKING MOST IMPORTANT SUBJECT WHYYYYYY... Okay so the teacher is kinda overworked as fuck lol. She can't really teach eighty kids at once so she mostly gives us exercises from websites but when she can she teaches us shit herself and actually knows a good bit about her field of study. She's usually pretty grumpy, understandably, but if you ask her a good question that makes her think you can see the passion there lol. So anyways that's a mood. Now at the other school it's even worse. They have this new asshole as a teacher that knows NOTHING about ANYTHING IT IS SO FUCKING REDICULOUS OH MY UUUUUGH... THEY STILL DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A FUCKING LOOP IS LIKE OKAY YOU'VE BEEN TEACHING PROGRAMMING FOR A YEAR AND YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE TEACHING IT AT THAT DISTRICT SO MAYBE YOU SHOULD AT LEAST FUCKING TRY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU... so he just makes them do shit from a website and obviously can't do half of the shit he assigns it's so fucking sad... I swear this district is supposed to be good but maybe not for the ONE THING I WANT IT TO BE GOOD FOR. Funny story: in elementary school once I wrote down school usernames for people I didn't really know and shared them a google doc that said "you have been hacked make a more secure password buddy" etc etc and made them the owner and these dull shits report it to the principal... So I'm in the principles office... Just a fucking dumb elementary school kid lol and the principal is like hAcKiNg Is BaD yOu ShOuLd NoT dO iT and I'm like how did you know it was me... so he goes on to say some bullshit about 'digital footprint' and 'tracing' me to it... he obviously has no clue what he's saying but anyways afterwards he points to where it says last change made by MY SCHOOL ACCOUNT... HOW DULL CAN YOU FUCKING POSSIBLY BE IT WAS FROM MY ACCOUNT THAT LITERALLY PROVED THAT I DID --NOT-- 'HACK' INTO THEIR ACCOUNT YOU DUMB FUCK. Okay so basically my school is a burning pile of garbage but it's better than most apparently but it's GARBAGE MY GOD... Please fucking tell me it gets better...
okay lol that was longer than I thought it would be guess I just needed to vent... later I guess

When you hear “Haskell performance”, what comes to your mind? I was never really interested in Haskell since I had Clojure, and I thought Haskell might be slow.
Haskell with GHC is actually as fast as C or even faster. Haskell runs right on your hardware, no VM or interpreter.
When a program is small, the performance is comparable to C. Sometimes it’s quicker, sometimes not. But when a program is large, Haskell implementation would be faster if you’re not a robot that generates perfect C code.
It’s both very high-order AND very fast. You don’t need math to code in Haskell.
Too bad there are no kewl libraries.12 -
When a webshop stock owner gets mad when their stock quantities don't add up, because it magically doubled +1y ago, and has been corrected now due to physically missing products while collecting ...
oh well. -
A step aside from one of the answers I ever gave on Stack Overflow, I notice I once made a "jsfiddle".
Already some annoyances...
• When did browsers, uh webkit, decide to fuck every "ul", "menu", and "dir" element with a "-webkit-padding-start" of 40 damn pixels?
• That friggin' fiddly webshite doesn't even force me to HTTPS, bro. Need a reason to fuck yourself in the vulnerable ass?
• Why is it that I can't log in with my tiny four-letter nickname; you identity-fuckers? -
When you get an assignment by mail,
- you do those changes exactly as being asked, albeit one insignificant extra visual thing,
- you send back exactly what's changed (which is exactly what was being asked, but naming things as they are, clearer than I can ever explain changes),
- you go to the person that has assigned the very thing, explain it, he seems to get it,
...
Then.. a few hours later.. you get a reply via mail:
"Come explain what you're saying here, because I don't get it."
🤨 -
Not sure if I could care any less about the choices being made anymore.
But the best choice I made was actually quitting the working from home job I had right when they were starting to use WordPress and outsourcing it to whatever Indian developer they found to do that for them (pun intended, though no hard feelings and understanding of the situation) for their general projects. I just wasn't open to it anymore.
I was setting up websites for almost zero to no money, a website in 4 hours upto 2 days, whilst doing internal support to save their frigging mailboxes from the Outlook Demon all the time. (Exaggerated in some sense, but I abide by the thought)
Best decision would be to start working full-time in an E-commerce fulfillment company, learning the good stuff, both structural and management wise. Working on one entity, but still doing it whilst using 100's of technologies, connecting to a ton of platforms and projects and most of all being able to aid in lessening the work-load for both my co-workers and customers as much as is deemed possible.
I'm fine. -
- Change this, change that too, oh and that too.
* Ok, will do ( however unlikely it's going to be finished correctly, as you didn't consult me before or listen to me about the impact this might have )
- ( just stfu and do it )
Sometime at or after important cutoff:
- Hey this doesn't show up, is that right
* Yeah, you wanted too many things changed at once + fix it and notice a stupid error like an && switched with a ||, or other models that don't know about change x yet
