Search - "oreo"
My dad found a phone a few weeks ago and asked me what he should do with it. Knowing how much it hurts to lose personal data, I said I could try to find the owner and send it back.
My first attempt was to search through the files on the SD card in order to find an identifying document (CV, bill, address...) but there were only family pictures.
My second attempt was to unlock the phone and check the information about the owner and the accounts linked to it. But for this to be possible adb has to be enabled. Good thing is that that particular brand shows an option for activating adb on the recovery menu.
But then, it's Android Oreo and I haven't found a way to lift the lock pattern. I thought I could bruteforce it over the shell (as I found there could be about 1300 possibilities for 2 to 5 point patterns), but there is the same attempt throttling as on the screen so that would take ages.
Finally, I found the owner in the most "social" way : The phone was displaying the weather for a particular place. It turns out that there are only 3K inhabitants in that city, si I thought that a big enough Facebook group might help me find the owner. So I posted a message on a 500 people FB group dedicated to this city with a selfie of the owner : someone identified her within 20 minutes.
Mission accomplished 😎45
So I'm learning 2D game dev in java.
Being stubborn I'm coding everything myself because, you know who needs libraries.😅
Holy toenails ,I have mad respect for the guys who build game engines. Especially 3d engines.
Y'all are beasts.28
Just today I noticed how Android Oreo (8.1) on my Nexus 6P can actually see my Bluetooth headset's remaining battery capacity. I didn't even know that my headset could send out this information! Windows never presented this information to me, and neither did my tablet which runs Nougat 7.0. Apparently there's multiple implementations of that battery level reporting too.. so lack of support in Microsoft's driver makes sense. Especially given that the Bluetooth standard already counts several thousands of pages. Compare that to Wi-Fi which is far more complex (with - some of - its 7 OSI layers, 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, MIMO etc) which counts only 400-ish pages. I'm surprised that Google actually supports this Bluetooth battery reporting at all.. implementing all the standards must've been quite the chore.
TL; DR: Bluetooth is an overengineered piece of shit, and is in dire need of refactoring.26
So apparently the Android O mascot is female... Look, Google it's great your trying to be diversified but... It's an Oreo... A fucking Oreo...
(And this is coming from a Google fan boy)6
When you get a system update and think it's Oreo, but it's just a security update. Fuck you Lenovo8
I find it od that 3 of the most hated languages on devrant are part of the top five most in demand languages?
OK. I may have the position on devRant as the "Android Guy" or just Haxk20. Yeah sure i ported oreo to a 2012 device that had android 6.0 previusly and 7.0 never even touched the device before. Pie is 95% done. If this build comes in as success then its 98% done.(Fucking lineage-sdk error (Cant seem to find any solution to it hopefully make clean will fix it)). Impressive ? No its not. Guys have done much much more work on older devices and with full support. Yeah sure they are doing it for long time and im just begginer in this since im only porting android for 2 years. But im gonna go to the new territory. Android kernel porting. (No im still going to be porting android. Its just that i need newer kernel)
Does it sound crazy ?
No ? well it fucking is.
Device has 3.0.101 kernel. Hopefully i can bring 3.4 to this babby so i can run some new stuff on it that i coudlnt before since it threw error as "Kernel too old" Yeah i coudlnt chroot into Linux system on that phone because the damn kernel is just so old.
Yeah i didnt even know that error actually existed ffs.
Best part at this ?
I dont have a fucking clue how to do this shit.
So yeah this is going to be fucking fun.13
This parallel Apps feature on Android Oreo is so funny.
I created parallel WhatsApp, signed up using my second sim, and called my 1st sim on WhatsApp.
WhatsApp = blown!6
Android oreo made me change so much code and broke so much shit like background services that my latest branch in git is FuckAndroidOBranch6
I wanted an Android phone with latest Oreo version, atleast 4gb RAM, 32gb or more with good processor supporting 4G dual SIM with a resolution of 1440 pixels by 2560 pixels at US$ 100.
Well got for all of it for US$125.
I went to LineageOS site, exported and filtered all supported devices with my relevant device attributes.
Got LeEco LeMax 2 for US125$ on eBay. Installed latest LineageOS 15.1 with Android 8.1.0. got 25gb free space.
Using the phone for last 10 days, flawlessly.26
Fuck Android Oreo and everyone who thought that the following ideas are useful:
- xy app is running in the background notification, which can't be disabled
- xy app is overlaying other apps, click here if you wish to disable it. But you can't disable the notification, you can only disable the app.
- the un-zeroable data limit. It can't be disabled, you can only set it to a retarded high number to avoid annoying notifications
Go suck a veiny one Android devs. Fucking cunt faces.13
Me: Android Pie ?
Android: "Yes Haxk20 ?"
Me: Im coming for you again ! Im gonna hunt you down and you gonna run and then you gonna run faster and faster carrying more and more stuff since support on my phone will be better and better !!!!
Are you fucking ready ?
Android: "Noooooo dont do it ! You are crazy you hunted me when i was Oreo and you got me that time. I dont want to do it again !"
Me: Well yeah that were good times. You really dont want to do it again ? I mean once i got you you will be OK and happy.
Wait a sec. You are just android. I dont give a fuck about your opinion.
"Run android RUN !!!!!!"8
Ice cream sandwich
Android O is coming soon!
Write your thoughts about what this version name should be in the comments below!
ex) Oreo, Octopus(?)
Google changed the android build system in android 7.0 to ninja but it was at least possible to disable it.
But android 8.0 is using it by default and it is not possible to disable it.
So what that means ?
Is that if you are trying to bring Oreo to older device like me you will have totally broken build order and that means that stuff that requieres some shit will not be able to compile since the shit is not compiled before.
SO NINJA FUCKKKKKKKKKK YOUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!
Make build system was fucking awesome. Yeah sure sometimes slow but it did the job perfectly but noooooooooo google must use the most latest shit and break every piece of android. Fuck it i need to rewrite my entire custombootimg.mk file since ninja broke it yayyyyy.
AGAIN FUCK YOU NINJAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.4
Its possible that this or the next build of Lineage15.1 will finally boot on my Nypon.
If it doesnt then at least most of the shit is fixed and what comes next will be pretty quick i hope.
If it does then im gonna have looooot of fun on XDA and Telegram with people. Because they have no clue im almost done with 8.1 Ohhhhh yes im terrible person for not telling them but i dont want to get their hopes high if i fail somehow.
Im gonna be like */Takes picture of the tasty oreo coockie/* They are gonna tell me thats nice and wont beleive me. Then im just gonna post a link and tell them to test it without telling them what it is and renaming it to 13.0 just for fun. Then they boot it and find out that its oreo. MUHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA. Its kind of nice.2
1. Get rubber ducky
2. Finish Android Oreo for my phone.
3. Do some stuff.
4. Well I don't fucking know I don't have plans for few fucking months !!!
5. Fucking Really ?
6. ... OK that's enough !!1
Just published vscode extension to auto transform object accessors to nullable / safer accessors (&& chain).
search for “vscode-oat” in marketplace.
Looking for feedbacks :)10
Just got the Oreo 8.0 update for my OnePlus 5T. Yay!
But it broke something, so now I can't debug my app with Xamarin... 😐
Luckily there's already a bugreport on their bugzilla! It seems like it's been fixed. Just need to update Visual Studio. Guess I'm lucky after all. 😁
The problem is still there... 😡
Don't know what to do now... 😕5
So I installed Nougat yesterday on my OPO as some apps n Google seem to not like CM 13...
It runs so fast and smooth... Not sure why but kinda feels like I got a new phone 😄😄
Wonder what it'll be like if I ever get to upgrade to Oreo... 🤔🤔🤔🤔
And it seems it likes attracting cats14
Android Oreo went to the light side.
Why would they do that?
The dark side is much more fun 👹
I hope they add an option later on....2
I fucking hate old android kernel.
Its fucking terrible to port new android Oreo to 2012 device while having kernel 3.0.101 (Yeah seriusly).
I need about 10 patches for only SElinux to be version 30 so it can even boot.
Do you think one may become a good programmer or coder without excellent knowledge of mathematics or algorithms?6
Using the Facebook Messenger thing on a recently updated Android 8 (finally, Huawei pieces of rotten eggs) is a friggin' pain in the starhole. For the life of me I can't seem to fudging remove this damn useless notification popping up... (pic)
It's more intrusive than the app itself... D:
I guess I'll need to trash the app then.. Good fucking riddance!13
Let me share a true story proving the power of free (as in speech) software
So I have a cell phone - a simple one, under $200 — https://gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_...
Once glass screen did break and I had a replacement from ‘unofficial service’ — you know, it’s faster, cheaper and you actually don’t have other options :)
So I replaced the glass and went along with my life. It still had Android Nougat (7.1.1) with a promised upgrade to Android Oreo (8.1) [the reason I bought it originally]
So the big day (TM) came and Motorola pushed an OTA updated which *broke* my touchscreen.
The display was perfectly fine, but it did not respond to touches.
Side-story: Apple did this with iOS 11 as well — I had experience restoring it back to iOS 10 (while they were signing both firmwares)
Then people on the forums (both XDA and Lenovo customer support) start bombarding everybody with messages
A guy figured out you could restore it to Nougat via `fastboot` if you unlock bootloader the (but you have to have some kind of way to interact with a screen — gladly, the phone supports OTG and you can plug a USB mouse (which, gladly, Android supports out-of-the-box) via a microUSB dongle)
Motorola said “OK OK we screwed up if you give us your phones we’ll fix everything; haha actually not if you restored it because then your warranty is void because you unlocked the bootloader)
I restored it to Nougat (7) and went on with my life
I didn’t want to settle with that they given to me so I went out, found Linux kernel sources for it, set up the environment to build them — still no luck on Android Oreo
Then, out of desperation, I replaced the *whole* `drivers/input/touchscreen` directory from Android 7 branch to Android 8 branch (I did some debugging before but it didn’t really work) and boom -- it worked.
I’ll try to pinpoint the exact issue (I don’t know much about how touchscreens work or any of that stuff — but I do know that it can be done) and share with the community on XDA
As a fellow developer I know you know that feeling when you struggle with something for a long time, then you figure it out and you get a rush of endorphins in your brain [and you go around smiling like an idiot but nobody really understands why]
Just discovered Chocolatey and how it installs stuff through a command line. FINALLY AN EASIER WAY TO INSTALL JDK, ANDROID SDK AND ALL THAT!!!1
Started looking into ai. Now every time I talk to my friend about his job.
He stares at me like I'm about to automate his job away1
Oh that looks pretty let me try.
Ow God why !!
Ah....that makes sense
Obsess over it for months
Make failed side projects with it.
Ad to cv
Going back to java after over a year of c and cpp.
System.out.println("yeah I still got this");
System.in......what was the console object called again1
So... Got upgraded to android 8.1
First impression... Dark theme ? (my dark background may help),
Everything got darker.
Second, folders are ugly as fuck (rounded, cutting half the icons) .
And third : fuck shit got fast.
If I tought my phone had no lag I was wrong... Now it starts apps instantly (plus the app launch time) it also got preetyer, looks like a hologram again the background.
Release info: https://xda-developers.com/android-...
Checking new features now but nothing really important2
Why the fuck does Android's SyncAdapter stop working without ANY notice since API level 26 when available storage is low?
They fucking deprecated the system-wide broadcast that the storage is getting too full to properly work. And there's no replacement!!! 😠 No callback. No exception. Nothing. You ask the SyncAdapter to sync and it will just not do it until some storage is freed.... 😭
Hated that Android 8.0 (Oreo) and above for killing backend Services very effectively without giving a proper documentation on how to handle it or how to properly maintain and restart the Service without the user to turn on the app. Digging solutions for months and still till today I am totally clueless...8
(!rant && happiness) * 2
yesterday I got back from a nice trip I had, and ON THAT SAME DAY I got my new Moto G5 and my hacktoberfest stuff!! :D I managed to install a custom ROM and root it on the same day :)
PS: anyone with the G5 can recommend me some Oreo ROMs that are good? THX4
Started refactoring our app with Android Architecture Components 1 week ago.
Now Android Oreo is released and I don't have to worry about breaking changes anymore.
It's always great to have smartphone that sees a lot of android development. I bought my phone way back in 2014 and at that time it was shipped with Jelly Bean. Not talking about official support (you might've figured the brand now) but my phone now has custom ROMs based on Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat and now even Oreo too. All of them running smoothly, giving me vanilla experience and my phone's cost was just $100 at that time.3
My OP5 got a system update to Android Oreo today. FUCK YOU Google for removing the cute blob emojis! I'm not using emojis that often, hell I normally wouldn't care at all, but the new ones are so ugly I wanna rip my eyeballs out everytime I see them. I already miss those adorable blobby bastards so much that I'm considering going back to Nougat :(
By the way: hello Devrant and the best wishes for 2018 to everyone!3
How would you guys feel if your favorite app gave you 3 monetization options.
Crypto Mining at max 70% load
Giving you 100% privacy.
Ads, rip privacy, rip cpu.
Paid content /micro transactions
Rip wallet , some privacy concerns, happy cpu.
Got the update to Android Oreo on my S7 edge yesterday.
I love it. It made my phone work so much faster(really, so much!). Everything is smoother and new cool featured have been added, the UI looks incredybly modern and nice.
But there is one BIG disadvantage.
The batteryusage is terrible now. In bad times my phone lost 7%-8% in a half an our. I heard that they had the same issue when the s8 got the update to android oreo.
Pls samsung you are my favourite phone company. Fix it, it is driving me crazy!!!2
Have any other nexus 6P users experienced battery and performance issues when upgrading to android O?
I love this phone and I'm not ready to admit it may be on its way out.... Denial is bliss sometimes7
I've just realised that Android O is Android Oreo, and I couldn't be happier. Here I am still using Marshmallow (which is equally as good, food wise), eagerly wanting to upgrade to Oreo.
Also, for those of you that do have Android Oreo, what's it like?3
Just putting it out there..
I absolutely abhor the gesture navigation and new recents app UI on android Pie.
Doesn't make upgrading from oreo to pie on non-rooted phones worth it. (that recent apps view is horrendous)
I thought of writing a post describing in details why this is so bad. But I am too lazy to do anything so fuck it.
I always knew it:
A bird? A plane? No, it's Android Oreo.
That superhero appereance. 😎
They seem to overhype it but its so ridiculous that its actually great again.1
I've been an android/anti-ios person for around a decade and im now seriously considering switching to ios when the new iphones land. My mother is an apple nut and my brother is on android and everytime i bring up even the slightest nitpick about ios or macos (such as the fact that the "always use this application" checkbox on macos does not work or that you have to upload music through itunes) they jump on the "wtf then why would even consider it??????" train. In short its because ios seems at least a little bit more stable overall (havent had much experience with ios in general this is really more of a first impression). Well I got a replacement LG V20 just over a year ago and it has not aged well, had to replace the battery because i barely got 4 hours with minimal usage, even when i got the thing it was rather jittery, and its just now getting oreo (and surely wont be getting pie). Hell i was removing several apps earlier and it took a solid 4 MINUTES to uninstall an icon pack. After some investigation into the ios ecosystem i found that all the apps that i would need are on there so that was great. What im really hoping for though is some stability/longevity, im ok with paying around 1000 for a phone if it lasts a while and stays in decent shape. Finally the fact that the updates are sparing at best (with the exception of pixel phones) is a great annoyance whereas my mothers (around 4 years old) ipad is rocking ios 11. Could someone who has made the leap make a recommendation? I love android but i feel like all i would accomplish is buying another phone that craps out after less than a year.7
My decision making chat bot project chat with it on messenger: https:/m.me/karar
Only replies yes or no but very useful when you are in doubt or having trouble to decide what to do.
Does anyone know an effective way of syncing office365 calendar events to google calendar?
Maybe I'm missing something blazingly obvious, but I just can't figure this out. Here's the situation. Work uses Office365, and I'd like to see calendar events on my phone (Pixel w/ oreo). BUT! For some reason when I try to make an Exchange account on said phone, the Exchange server wants to be device admin and set all kinds of ridiculous rules/restrictions. No thanks. Plus, before a few months ago the server had never demanded this.
So, I called our IT department. Their first response was, "Why do you want to have calendar events on your phone?"... ok... Their second response was "Just make the Exchange server device admin."
As you can imagine I'm a bit frustrated by this and must be missing something. Any help?7
How does one convert an .img system image for Android to the format readable by Heimdall on Linux... Only thing I found so far requires Windows... Why make Heimdall if you need Windows anyway to make the image... Just use Odin on Windows then... Any ideas? Don't have Windows... And all I need is to read a bloody logfile (btsnoop_hci.log). Thanks, "secure" Android Oreo!!!6
