I just need to rant about this because I'm furious.
Last night I had a house warming party. It was mostly, if not all, of my girlfriend's friends. I'm a cranky old developer so I don't have friends.
Everyone was nice and dressed nice and brought us gifts.. all of the gifts were pretty much specifically for my girlfriend.
So this one girl came... she's younger.. around 25. She came with no gift (I wasn't expecting gifts I just need to mention it for the plot), and was dressed in sweat pants. Alright, no problem.. I really don't care at least she's here.
So as more guests arrive I finally get a gift. Someone brought me a case of beer and a couple of yummy cookies. I had to put it down on the kitchen counter for a bit because I needed to grab more chairs.
The basement door where the chairs are is 10 feet away from where I left my present..
I come back from upstairs.. not even 5 minutes later and I see sweat pant girl stuffing one cookie in her fucking mouth and the other in her pants...
Are you fucking kidding me!? I bought desserts and snacks and all the alcohol you can think of and you steal MY fucking present. Not just one of them... but BOTH.
She saw the other guests give me it.. say "here buddy this is for you"... followed me in the kitchen and STOLE my fucking cookies.
I was going to eat them this morning with my coffee and I realized I couldn't because this fucking ass hole took my fucking cookies!!!!
I hosted this party for my girlfriend's SJW ass hole fucked up friends... put a smile on my face... pretended to like people... and for once didn't yell at someone... and the fucking thanks I get is 2 stolen fucking cookies.
Today was different at work. It felt as if something was missing. The circle of fun at work that was developed over last two months among few of us was gone overnight..
Two months ago, we ( 7, including our PM ) were shifted from our cabin space to this special room by boss in hopes to keep our ass under fire and increase our productivity. Everyone in the office saw this room like a concentration camp as it was next to boss 's office. Nobody liked the idea of working in that room. We were seen as prisoners as we walked into our work cage.
In the cage, there is a fixed table. We had to adjust our workspace around that table. Everyone was just an arm length away from each other. It didn't take that long to form a bond among us. Some of us would bring snacks and we all shared it and ate it there. We had fights and discussions. The girl in my team and other team would have silly fights about their legspace boundary. The guy who is on a quest to find his life partner would seek for our opinions about his matrimony findings. That time the girls roasted guy about his patriarchal attitude. Instant discussions on current events. Movie reviews and sharing about various life experiences. Lots of such memories were formed and shared over last two months while we worked in there.
For me, it felt like living "The Office" in real life. It was amazing. I was starting to forget my dreams of self employment and plans to resign career because this human connection was addictive. We all learned a little more about each other which otherwise would not have been happened outside the cage.
We didn't realize the bubble and dynamics we had formed in that room until it was gone today when we were shifted back to our cabin space.
It was obvious we were little sad inside having to say bye to our bubble.
Planning a camping trip with my friends.
Friend1: I’ll bring the snacks.
Friend2: I’ll bring the equipment to build the tents.
Friend3: I’ll bring the first aid kit.
Everybody: who’s bringing the equipment to make the fire?
Me: I’ll do that. I’ll just run Android Studio on my laptop.
Everybody: woah woah man! Take it easy! We just want a simple fire, not burn the whole forest down!7
Never gonna happen:
* Port our API to graphql. Or even make it just vaguely rest-compliant. Or even just vaguely consistent.
* Migrate from mysql to postgres. Or any sane database.
* Switch codebase from PHP to... well, anything else.
* Teach coworkers to not commit passwords, API keys, etc.
* Teach coworkers to write serious commit messages instead of emoji spam
* Get a silent work environment.
* Get my office to serve better snacks than fermented quinoa spinach bars and raw goat milk kale smoothies
* Find an open source IDE with good framework magic support. Jetbrains, I'll give you my left testicle if you join the light side of the force.
* Buy 2x3 equally sized displays. I'm using 6, but they're various sizes/resolutions.
* Master Rust.
* Finish building my house. I completely replaced the roof, but still have to dig out a cellar (to hide my dead coworkers).
* Repair/replace the foundation of my house (I think Rust is easier)
* Get slim and muscular.
* Get a comfortable salary increase, focus more on platform infrastructure, data design, coaching
* Get fat(ter). Eating, sitting, gaming, coding and sleeping are my hobbies after all.
* Save up for the inevitable mental breakdown-induced retirement.14
My wife is neither a programmer nor she understands code but I love her more when she puts snacks in my mouth herself because my hands are too busy on the keyboard.5
Some motherfucker at the gym called me. “Hey @growling, I am here with that gym you signed up with 5 months ago and your card for membership renewal isn’t working.”
“Yes sir. It’s 8am.”
“Don’t you think it’s a bit too early?”
“Did you get a new card?”
“Hey call me at lunch or something, I’m going back to sleep.”
“Okay, or you can call me. Goodbye”
Acting like you got better shit to do with your time.
Like he wanted to lecture me and say waking me up at 8am is fine. Like he wanted to say he came from a hardworking family and so he can say waking me up at 8am is fine. Shiiit dude my mom used to work with two broken hips for 7 days a week until I made six figures. Bless her heart, that’s why I got her a new car and money each month to pay all her bills. She’s been out of work for 2-3 years now. So lecture me. Only my mom can lecture me, boy. Cause she raised me to be an engineer.
Also, why do I see this everywhere as well? I get lectured for drinking beer on a Sunday or Monday during lunch at my frequent visits to liquor store.
“Don’t you have work?”
Yes, 9-5. But I’m an engineer. So it can be 10-6 or 11-7. Doesn’t matter. All of the stuff I do follows sprints and not direct interaction with customers!
I get tasks done and I teach interns to help me get tasks done. In time. And sometimes even more.
I know my schedule is so lax you want to criticize me. Maybe you think I don’t work? Or work as hard as you?
Tl;dr I intentionally act like a spoiled baby when it comes to work so that service/retail/manual labor people lecture me so I can tell them that we work differently than what they’re used to.
I have free snacks. Don’t get me started about gloating about free beef jerky. People hate me on online forums for doing that! Drink beer on tap in work kitchen. A glass of wine anytime I want. Sleep in until sometimes 11am. But that’s why I’m an engineer, buddy.2
Programming made me fucking fat as fuck.
I went to Holmes Place after a 2 month no gym period to get counseling.
I have a whoppin 25% body fat and it makes me fucking depressed.
Fuck sitting in front of computers and programming for hours. Fuck snacks and fuck stayibg up late. That shit is bad for you.17
Fuck! I gotta bring snacks to work i guess. I get hungry by 2 hrs into work and stomach starts to make those weird sounds.
My coworker must be thinking I'm farting... :/
Technically it's farting but its just inside stomach fart.... Hope she wont misunderstand.1
Last Wednesday and Thursday were public holidays. Took leave on Friday and now at a resort beside a dam/lake. Now chilling with booze and snacks in a wooden tent. Life can't be better.
Morale of the story is Programming is not your life. Take a break.8
I switched my job about 2 months ago. This was my first switch after college (in 7 years). I was at a senior position and was not learning anything new for few months and got really bored.
I had asked for a 100% hike in new company, they gave me over 150%. Apart from this, they offer free food and snacks (or reimburse if you order your food from outside). Unlimited leaves and work from home option. No fixed working hours (I see people working for only 5-6 hours some days). No sign of politics yet. People are very humble and help you out even on silly queries. Company is growing at a very fast pace, it was named in fastest x growing companies about a month ago in some report with growth rate of about 1000%.
I see people around me with so less experience than me but so much knowledge. Feels like I am fresher again and learning so much from them. FYI, I had worked in same field (tech) for initial 3 years of my career. Looking at seniors I am finally able to set goals.
This one time I saw CTO awake at 3 am collaborating actively in resolution of a production issue.
Having seen so much positive, I went over 100 reviews on Glassdoor to find out the only 2 negatives points ever written, one of them was slow Lift in building. The other a9
Android O is coming soon!
Write your thoughts about what this version name should be in the comments below!
ex) Oreo, Octopus(?)
Haven’t eaten any proper breakfast nor lunch,
My body has subsisted only on snacks (carbs, sugar, msg) throughout the day,
What are the “flat-food”(s) you guys usually ate in substitute of proper meal?24
My wife is sick, my infant daughter is teething, and my toddler son won't stop begging for fruit snacks. I haven't slept more than 4 hours in the last 48 hours.
And now, I have to work on my weekend, since our division refuses to say "No, that wasn't in the scope of work" to another business unit and put them in their place. They're lucky they're getting the feature they requested 6 weeks from launch _at all_, let alone with the extras that they requested 4 weeks from launch. Now it's on my shoulders to fix this bullshit because they won't pony up extra budget to pay the external dev shop we used (who failed to implement said features in a timely fashion) to fix this shit.
I really need to get my business shit together and start consulting on my terms. Working for other people can suck a fuck.4
So, here I am at a guided internship programme, hosted by Indian Railways.
They told us to report at the Personnel Office by 10:00 AM. When I reached there, they told us the venue has been changed (to a place 1km away, with no transportation) and the official "forgot" to inform the 500+ candidates.
Yet, we moved to the said Hall, and am waiting for 1 hour (10:59 AM here), watching :
1. The stupid technician trying to align the projector
2. The stupid presenter trying to copy something and failing, as his pen drive gets disconnected halfway the process.
3. The VIPs having snacks and coffee on-stage while we the students wait here looking at those dumb assholes.
How am I supposed to respect them tomorrow at work?12
Lockdown Day 1 of 21.
Royally fucked up.
Cooking gas ran out.
Drinking water is also over. The nearby water vending machine is also not working.
Hoping the gas shop will have stock at the time they told to come back.
Didn't have lunch, already starving even with whatever snacks that was stocked.20
Yet to meet a dev who is a health nut. The code of the world is built on caffeine, fast food, and snacks as far as I know.6
15 minutes delayed because whatever...
+30 minutes waiting for the next train, because my train stopped early because there was no AC and it were 38 degrees Celsius
+30 minutes, train I was changed to was delayed
Train I was changed to only had snacks to offer because they haven’t got water
+60 minutes on this train because, well why not
„We wish you had a pleasant journey“: notification pops while I’m still 2 hours in...
Yeah fuck off...1
My mum and I was picking up my nephew the other day from school, and he brought back some snacks he got from the school with him,
There were some cakes, chips, and a white paper cup like the one they used for soda, I assumed it was coke or something, so I put it away on the cup holder by the car door
Not long after on the way home, he reminded us of that cup, he wanted to show us what's in that cup,
My mum thought it was a result of some kind of experiment he did at school,
He said in broken bahasa (he mainly speaks in english, so his indonesian's always jumbled with english words)
"No, it's not"
"It's um, umm"
"It's the banana that turns to water"
I was confused, my mum's still convinced it's some kind of experiment,
I thought it's a banana juice,
To our surprise...3
When applying for your first ever job, which of the following is/are/can be acceptable?
- Bad company culture
- Slavery pay
- Bad location
- No benefits (health care, etc.)
- No coffee/free snacks
- Long working hours/Lot of overtime work
I'll probably learn how to cook, maybe open a café and start selling overpriced coffee and Savory snacks.
My best co-workers are my food buddies. Our tables are always full of snacks and garbage. Oh how i miss those days.
Only at work can I come back from the breakroom full of cookies and snacks for mymanager to promptly give me a pass to Golds Gym :V she is telling me that I is fat I guess :V
;_____; i am not fat, just eat like a fatboi
Debating on whether to quit my job.
Part of the reason it's hard for me to make a decision is there are a lot of good things about my job:
- almost all the projects we work on are blue sky; no technical debt anywhere
- great teammates; people help each other out and generally there's a good vibe
- reasonable boss; he's totally fine with me managing my own schedule, and since I get my work done, he basically never questions when and where I work
- about 1 hour of corporate meetings each week
- best healthcare I've ever had; basically everything is paid for
- 3 weeks PTO & all major US holidays
- free food; generally healthy office snacks and such
So why would I want to quit this environment?
- I hardly get to code anymore. About 2 years ago, I got asked if I would mind helping spec out projects. Since then, I've moved from writing code related to projects to helping my teammates understand the business situation so they can build the right thing.
- I'm in lots of meetings. So we have very few meetings for the company itself. We have a bunch of customer meetings, though. And progressively, I've getting pulled into meetings where there's really no reason for me to be there, aside from "we should have a technical person present."
- The sales people are getting tired of turning down clients that our product isn't targeted for. So they're progressively pushing to make products in those areas. Unfortunately, I'm the only one on the engineering team has any experience in that other tech stack. Also, the team really, really don't want to learn it because it's old tech that's on its way out.
- The PM group is continuously in shambles. Turnover there has averaged 100% annually for about 5 years. Honestly, IMO, it's because they're understaffed. However, there has been 0 real motion to fix this other than talk. This constant turnover has made it so that the engineering team has had to become the knowledge base for all clients.
- My manager has put me on the management track, but has been very slow to hand off anything. I'm the team supervisor, and I have been since the beginning of the year formally. When the supervisor quit last year, it basically became obvious to me that I was considered the informal supervisor after that. However, I can't hire or fire; I can't give a review; I don't have any budget; I can't authorize time off. So what do I do now? Oh, I'm the person that my boss comes to ask about my co-workers performance for the purpose of informing promotion/termination/pay increases. That's it. I'm a spy.4
We program with a scripting language that can literally be all things to all people because its Frankenstein's Cyber Monster after a career as a stripper in Oregon and was made up of the shittest parts left at the graveyard. We won't transcend ourselves calling for "Web Components without Frameworks" and "Transcendence dot JS" seriously eat shit and die.
The larping in this industry is stupider than the product of a Kentucky cousin fuck. Sure the well branded catch phrase making everyone goo goo for the easiest path possible in front end development (the JAM stack come on fuckery doo-dahs you see through it too right?) tries my patience too but not nearly as much as everyone climbing all over each other looking for something to make them feel as if they actually stand for something as they push out all of the residents in West Oakland because 'its close'.
Adults that make six figures, live about as well as any human ever has and still there is need to induce in one's self the strive and chaos that literally could be yours if you just started wandering SF at night, but of course that would be scary and its easier to be able to put down the scary at night while you slowly work your way through the Netflix and Hulu catalogue BECAUSE ITS NOT REAL FUCKING STRUGGLING ITS JUST WHINING
Do us all a fucking favor, stop acting like the parents that you leave work early every other Thursday to bitch about to some sniveling asshole with a master's psych who is probably working on his PHd in totally fucking useless. Please stop pretending you have any idea what actual struggle is. You couldn't handle the bitter taste of your own failings or the more bitter and scarier than all the shit kitties combined taste of the failings of the people you trust, don't lie to yourself.
Just leave the weird dude in a suit alone in the corner while he listens to music that sounds like it coming out of a fissure that opened in the street so could Satan come up and snatch your mother in law after she goes under for another facelift. There might be a reason that the cacophony of Hell's fury is conducive to that coworker's workflow that if he told you about it definitely would need some time off that the team can't afford because you and everyone else in the office NEVER STOPS COMPLAINING LONG ENOUGH TO DO A FUCKING THING
Instead write some components without frameworks and reinvent that fucking wheel for yourself asshat or stuff your face with some more free snacks in the break room BUT DON'T LINGER AROUND LONG ENOUGH TO SWALLOW THE SHIT YOU MIGHT START RANTING ABOUT HOW TERRIBLE IT IS FOR YOU BECAUSE YOUR NEIGHBOR LOOKED AT YOU JUDGMENTALLY.
My Linux install may break a lot, but at least I can disable the motherboard beep.4
Being more comfortable in general.
Also, coding in bed.
Furthermore, monitor setup is better.
So I'm at Brazil Day in NY, took me $6 and 1.5hrs to get here but know what I'm here I feel spending $5 for street food snacks is too much... Like they're price gouging too far...
But in other contexts, I have no problem dropping $$$ for food... Pretty much daily...
I'm not sure how I should make sense of this or justify it. Maybe that's the difference between paying cash and swiping?3
My company has hired and fired 3 Engagement Managers (people who host events, refill snacks, etc) since I'm started here, and I'm starting to think People Ops is either
1) Cannot hire someone good
2) Is toxic and causing the people to leave
3) Hire and fire before their 90 days are up
It sucks that right when I think we got someone good, they give them the boot. That should not be a norm or acceptable to go through 3 managers in 9 months.1
I clearly define the day's goal, get beverages/snacks ready, get my hair out of my face, take my glasses off, answer any remaining email, take a deep breath, and dive in.
Sometimes I'll listen to music, but it depends on the ambient noise level.
This was at my first job, a site that sold magazine subscriptions during the dot com boom.
Times got rough during the bust. First sign, free snacks disappeared. Everyone started worrying, and checking fuckedcompany.com to see if we were on it. One day everyone's machines shut down, and someone walks around saying company meeting in the cafeteria. My Russian coworker asks if I have a screwdriver so he can liberate his hard drive. Go to the meeting. Most of the company is being laid off immediately. You have to hang around having interviews with your boss to see if you still have a job. I don't.
2 weeks later they call and ask if I'd like to come back. Turns out trying to run with 1 programmer wasn't working out for them. I go back.
First problem we try to tackle - the shopping cart is slow. We put in a hack SQL file to delete carts older than 1 week. Gets better. Then gets slower again. Rinse and repeat 2 times. Finally digging through the source in the perl folder (not what the main site was in) we find what scheduled job was supposed to do this. Dig in. What do we find out? sa_scheduled_tasks user account was deactivated, because only user accounts belonging to people who still had a job were left active.

Been scouting restaurants and cafés last sunday. Nine candidates, from collab spaces, bars to restaurants.
We have a city centre at hand.
Whereas three collab spaces been closed (Sunday) and won't open within our desired times. The 'coffee lovers' is a minimalistic bar at the city's public library, not explicitly offering space for meet ups. And the Honigs' house coffee bar does only serve business hours.
Three remain on my short list:
- Cafe Jos meesterschenkereij
Snacks, beer ( 80+++ brands) and whiskey, very cosy, 15min simple public transports.
- eetcafe goed volk
Vegan food, wine, classy, 15min simple public transports.
- Cafe Faber
Rustical, beer n standards, built for tall peoplere, total city centre.
All three can specially accommodate us that evening.
Anyways. The city is full of bars n stuff.
I'd like to side our choice with a survey (scientifically personal data friendly) :
Do you appreciate office amenities enough that it makes you want to stay longer than a normal workday? Ping pong, foosball, megajenga, snacks, alcohol, etc.15
What the hell is a "Monthly Happiness Stipend"
I mean I like the Unlimited Snack idea, mostly because Snacks can turn into breakfast, lunch, and dinner if you have enough of everything.4
My sister-in-law is a real fucking piece of work. My wife and I pay her to watch our daughter, who is 1.5 years old. She lives with us practically rent free (less than 0.5 of what she was having to pay in rent at her previous living situation). And as of late, my wife and I have been going through rough marital issues. Our marriage counsellor advised as ‘homework’ to write down a few things that would make us happy; individually of our partner, in our relationship.
Something I put down was, ‘that I want our daughter to be more mentally stimulated’ since she’s curious and inquisitive as fucking hell right now. And that I wanted us to find child care that would nurture her more than my sister-in-law does.
(She sits our daughter and one other little girl she watches down in the front room to watch the disney channel all day long. Sometimes she’ll talk to her friends for a few hours throughout the day on the phone. And makes them lunch and snacks when they are hungry.)
I’ve been looking into a daycare center that specializes in teaching kids early reading and writing along with a program that starts at 2 to focus on dancing or on music. They only want like $75 more per week and food and snacks are included in the weekly cost.
That being said I had written down my things for my ‘homework’ assignment. My daughter ended up getting a hold of it and brought it to my sister-in-law who now has a major attitude about this whole thing...
My wife and I were struggling financially a bit earlier in the year and she helped us with gas money a few times and helped with some basic groceries and stuff. But today she just threw all of that ‘help’ back into my face.
If I had fucking known that you were going to hold that shit over my head and weaponize it against me because you feel hurt by the fact that you are a shit child care provider in my eyes then you can go smoke a fucking tailpipe you cum guzzling gutter slut!5
36 hours. In the first 2 Hackathons I ever participated. This includes the time I spent on eating free food, tea , dinner, mid-night snacks, tea, tea, morning snacks, lunch, evening snacks, tea, tea, dinner ........And Quizzes that I lost2
I've been to 4 kubernetes related tech talks and they've all been the fucking same. No depth, no new cool things, no little tricks or demonstrations, just the plain old boring shit I've seen a thousand times.
I've worked with it and love it for big projects, but going to conventions to hear someone talk about it is completely meaningless. Perhaps it's because I only learn by doing.
And before anyone says 'then don\'t go', I usually go with either friends or a colleagues and want to show my face, and have some drinks and snacks.
This was my techtalk.5
when you find out that they refilled the snacks and you know, after 3 days all the good stuff is gone. what to do?8
What do you do when you are hungry/peckish and it's late?
It's 🌃 time and I don't have anything to eat (except maybe some stupid cookies)
I wish I could do
'npm i snacks'
'sudo apt-get snacks'
And I would receive snacks from my computer or something..
npm might also give some extra snacks plus ingredients as dependencies 😅
Maybe I can make coffee..☕?2
After many years, I am trying to learn to react and react-native again.
I went to react native and click on get started. I downloaded CRNA and created Hello World. It asked me to download Expo client.
I was like WTF is this expo? So I installed it on my Note 8 and run the app. This is awesome. I don't have to build the whole app. It did not require Android SDK.
I open the expo website and found lots of SNACKS by other people. I can see the live output of many libraries and I loved the whole thing.
Finally, I installed the Expo client on my iPad. There was no scan barcode option. I thought it was weird. I saw login option. So naturally, I log in and wait for it to show in Expo client. Still nothing.
Finally, google about it and found out that due Apple, I can not see other people example on expo anymore.
Why the fuck Apple has to kill something this awesome. I can not express my anger on this.
1. No sugary snacks (ugh, gonna be brutal).
2. Find a Node project I can become a regular contributor to (because I haven't had an excuse to really learn Node yet).
3. Learn to sit back and stop worrying about whatever the big new thing is in the industry. Be content to read up on it and see how it plays out.
That third one can fit my laid back personality anyway, but it's so hard not to get caught up in worry when things like Node, Blockchain, and AI become such big crazes -- and then the hype dies down.
Of course, I do still want to learn and use Node, but anxiety about being left behind isn't a factor anymore. So that's a plus.
I need to find a remote job... or want to... had been thinking about the benefits re: annoying coworkers, however I'm teleworking today and realize another pro: cat pair programming ;-) and con: readily available snacks. Hm...3
I live mainly on green tea and grissini(bread sticks). Ironically I have a very weak alcohol tolerance but caffeine never seems to have any effect, so i just drink greent tea because it soothes my nerves and tastes awesome while eating low calorie snacks... Another irony is that I'm fat... You would think such a healthy sounding life style would lead to a fit body. Then why the fuck am I still fat god ?! Do you want me to cycle for 50 km everyday for christs sake ??!!!!2
anyone else having a few hours of not being able to focus after lunch? Or is that just me?
It doesn't matter what I eat or what I do, after lunch I just can't focus on anything. Until 4-5 pm. then focus comes back again.
The only solution to this that I have is basically don't eat a full meal at lunch, but try to have healthy snacks instead.
Any ideas? it annoys the hell out of me.4
I have no specific story to tell (for now. Will post ke if i remember one) but i have had tons of CS teachers that are shit. From ones who don't know shit to ones who are so bad as a human being i am sure thrte are hundreds of people out there to kill them. I have had multiple teachers where all they did was read out a book and we'd have o site everything they read. Whole fucking semester. And not just one person or once. M-U-L-T-I-P-L-E TIMES AND TEACHERS. then I ve had ones who would rejection my code even if it's better, is right, can andle more edge cases, most likely magnitfrs of times faster and isn an eye sore with just effig if-else on op of if-else nested within if-else with many for loops. Then there are those who want you to do just what they want and expect you to not have a life of your own. Those who blatantly abuse their powers. Those who couldn't care less. Those who are not that bad a teacher but their attitude and style just makes you want to leave. There's one currently who wants a group of 4 people in second year to develop a full blown industry level application in mere 3 weeks. AND WE ARE HAVING OUR THEORY PAPRRS INBETWEEN FOR 2 EFFING WEEKS. So that's just like a month. Fortunately I have a group that's good enough that I can have them do the testing and filling up the documentation (did I mention that he needs full documentatiin for software plus a report on how our development process) and have them work on presentation (yup. We need to present this thing) all for just 50 marks. 1 uni credit. Our system still gives 80% weightage to pure theory. Plus the practical part is somewhat theory too.
Our HOD wants us *insists*forces** to stay back at college and work on projects (which is nice but what he ments is use the shitty outdated books from early 2000s to study something). Now I'd be happy to stay back if college provided decent internet (I am not asking for gigabit speeds. Even 1-2Mbps would work) and place to sit. But nope, our college non-teaching staff is eager to send us out of their department and by extention college building. There is literally nowhere you can sit. Plus yup, there is no internet and nowhere for you to plug your laptop in. That's a moot point anyway because they don't want you to use your laptop in college library or anywhere anyways. Plus you don't get much of mobile data too because of the building design. Those work only near windows. Why would I be at college if I can get a 50+Mbps down, area to sit, snacks, port to charge all at home. And you'd say we should talk with him about this – well it's not his issue is all he has to say.
Well, such is life in Indian colleges. And my college/uni is one of the better ones.1
Taking a leave for 14 days from work, just to use my vacation days, really messes with my biorhythm :D My day/night cycle shifted about 12 hours.. Programming during the night for a freelance project, sleeping 1-2 hours during the day just to rest my eyes a bit..
I'm from Belgium, but the second developer, on the project, is from San Francisco.. It's quiet nice to have someone to talk to about the development process when every one else I know is asleep.
I'm not made for a dayjob at a desk, I need to be at home, in my bed or at my own desk, choosing my own hours, just.. Working on projects with some music, some snacks,.. Much more productive that way than, instead, being forced to work from 9am to 6pm.. You can't force creativity or inspiration
I slept 9 hours this week, spread over 4 days... I'm not the most healthy person, I know :D1
To get unstuck, do a brief context switch. Let your brain process the problem in the background.
My preferred mode of context switch? Gossip over snacks.
Workflow? More like chasing answer from a community that is not, and never has been, famous for its pedagogical skills. So hand me some coffee, weed and/or some snacks because I'll still search high and low, skip sleep and build up a few hundred pages browsing history so that in the end, I'll reach the understanding I'm looking for anyways. Even if whatever person trying to help me - in their delusion that I already know everything, except for that thing I'm asking about of course - really, REALLY just failed at saying "that goes there because of that" instead of "did you try insertSomeAppropriateRandomNameOfAThingYouAssumeEveryoneKnowsHere..?".
But who am I kidding? The tools are better than ever (IDE'S). The pedagogical skills are getting its own arenas to build on and its coming along greatly (coding block apps, treehouse and the likes etc. etc).
And no matter the struggle, I can't escape that I love coding and learning more than anything else.
Now how do I.. Where.. When.. Why the..
Sat at my desk dealing with the same 3 issues all day, picking at a tub of Bombay mix my wife gave me for lunch....
I've decided that the 3 stranded one is my favourite part, I think it's just sev where the noodles stuck together but I can't be sure.
If anyone knows I would be grateful to find out.3
