I don't understand why so many people fight this war of tabs vs spaces. My colleagues elegantly solved the problem just not using indentation at all36
I don't like anything political on here, but this is affecting us all, even non-US people.
Today is the day, take a stance, fight for NetNeutrality13
How to kill a lot of Linux users in one go without being accused of murder:
1) Write on social media "which is the best Linux distro and why?"
2) Watch them fight and kill each other
-Some run marathons, I run Python
-Some have energy drinks, I have Java
-Some fight in MMA, I fight with CSS
-Some see new places, I C new Places();
-Some are quick, I am Swift
-Some go camping, I Go Compiling
-Some can judge objectively, I can judge Objective-c
-Some climb mountains, I Scala Structures

Wasn't there myself. Came back after weekend or being sick or something and after the daily stand-up one of the guys came to me:
"hey man not to be rude or anything but we're not going to use your code for the project. You're programming in a wrong way."
They explained me where I was going wrong and then it appeared that my study taught me some principles of PHP programming wrong.
I felt like shit, downish and had to fight the tears because I felt quite humiliated.
Looking back at it, they were completely right.12
Do devs really fight or do we just mildly assert differing opinions then ignore each other for extended periods of time?3
Those who dev in prod!!!
Push to master!!!
The "it's a feature" assholes!
The Madman Muntz misers!
The computer science and engineering fields are filled to the brim with fakers, phony's and Python Lords. I try to fight them every time but they outnumber me. Apparently money is more attractive than expressing your own passion.15
Worst experience: had a verbal fight with pm because his poor management overworked me ( I was working on the same project till 10pm every day for 4 days with no OT pay)
Best experience: I stepped up against an abusive pm and told him to fuck off to his face.12
Hubby and I work for the same company. His boss is a twat who's always trying to fire him. Told my hubby's boss he needed to be more clear with expectations and bring issues up before he gets pissed and can't respond appropriately. Then I walk away. Then I email him apologizing for taking to him and that I'm not planning to talk to him again.
That little bitch went to HR and said he felt threatened by me, demanded that I be required to work from home. My boss said no.
I write code,
I am a writer.
I fight with bugs,
I am a fighter.
I optimise code,
to make it tighter.5
Today is one of many days fellas! Today my coworkers and I will fight again for more salary! Our company is making millions and billions of euros and we won't be gifted for our work!
I hope in your countries you have the same rights to fight for your money. If so, do it!
Sorry for no Dev realated post's!
TL;DR I have me no money41
This one, is for all you haters out there tonight!
Cause I'm PHP, I'm dynamite
PHP and I'll win the fight
PHP. I'm a power load
PHP, watch me explode()
I'm dirty, mean and mighty unclean
I'm a wanted code
Public enemy number one
Dear DevRant Users,
Thank you for being such an amazing group. You make me feel less shitty, more confident, and generally happier. You help me fight off the looming depression, keep me motivated, and help keep me focused on the of being the best programmer I can. Thank you.6
After Windows/Linux and atom/sublime and vim/emacs and all those other reasons we fight...
for(i = 0 ; i < 10 ; i++)
for(i =0 ; i <= 9 ; i++)
for 10 iterations?38
I'm currently freelancing abroad.
I don't get the UK Salley but I don't pay the UK prices.
I get to travel, see the world and support myself.
Much more valuable then any high end wage to me.
(I wrote most of this as a comment in reply about Microsoft buying GitHub on another rant but decided to move it here because it is rant worthy. Also, no, I'm not a Microsoft employee nor do I have any Microsoft stock).
Microsoft buying GitHub makes sense. They contribute more to the open source community on GitHub than any other company. (Side note, they also contribute/have contributed to the Linux Kernel).
Steve Ballmer isn't running the show anymore. Because of that, we have awesome things like:
* Visual Studio Code - Completely free and powerful light weight IDE for coding in just about any script or language. This IDE is also open source, hosted on GitHub. It can be installed on Win/Mac/Linux.
* Visual Studio Community Edition: fully featured flagship IDE free for solo developers and students, can be installed on Win/Mac.
* Fully featured Sql Server running in a Docker container.
* .Net Core, which can be compiled to native binaries of Windows, MacOS AND Linux. You can't even do that with Java, you have to first have the JVM installed in order to run any kind of Java code on any of those operating systems. .Net Core is also an absolutely beautiful framework with so many features at your disposal.
Yes, they've done bonehead things in the past but who/which company hasn't. Yes, they have Cortana. Yes, they force Bing on you when searching with Cortana (does anyone actually regularly use Cortana? Or Bing?). Yes, their operating system costs money. Yes, their malware-style Upgrade-to-Windows-10 tactics were evil and they admitted such. Yes, they brought ads and other unfortunate things to Skype. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned about that Skype bit translating over into GitHub. BUT, the fact that so many of their employees use GitHub daily means they are dogfooding the platform, which is a positive thing.
Despite the flaws, from the perspective of a software engineer they really should be given a lot of credit for all these new directions they are moving in now. They directly aim to help and contribute to the developer community. Plus, Windows 10 is finally getting a dark theme! haha.
I think Microsoft buying GitHub makes a lot of sense. Of course do what you want about it, feel how you want about it, but casting the same ol' shade at them for anything they do seems a bit like automatic reflex more than anything else.
I'm bracing myself for the impending wave of angry hornets from the nest I just kicked. In all seriousness though, I welcome discussion on the topic even if you feel differently than I do. I'm not saying there's no reason to dislike them, just saying there are lots of new reasons to hate them less and/or appreciate what they are doing now.19
Fight against procrastination.
//now I can cross "make your first rant" item on my todo list from 2016.6
Guys, I think it's time to fight back!
Whenever a client ask you about IE9 support, tell him to find someone else, because noone the fuck uses IE9 and if someone somehow does, then it's his fault!
Then he will search for other dev, but if we all do so, we can forget about supporting stupid old shit again!2
Scripting languages, markup languages, database querying languages, etc. Are all types of programming languages. A program is a set of instructions for a computer to follow.
HTML is a programming language, fight me.48
My 2018 wish:
I wish Amazon and Google would end their childish fight so that i can finally stream Amazon Prime to my TV using Chromecast.4
I wish there is such thing as branch in a relationship. So that whenever a couple are having a fight, they can create a branch and work their shit out in that branch and eventually merge to the master branch.
That just costs.... more conflicts3
Fuck old farts trying to enslave us by censoring internet,
fuck cloud services,
fuck city surveillance,
fuck internet surveillance,
fuck RFID that enslaved animals,
fuck IoT constantly looking at our life,
fuck artificial intelligence.
It’s becoming fucking nightmare.
Time to make tools to fight against technology and people that intrude our life with this shit.
Where the fuck is John Connor ?8
I was 5 and he was 6
We rode on horses made of sticks
He wore #000 and I wore #FFF
He would always win the fight
! !, he shot me down
! !, I hit the ground
! !, that awful sound
! !, my baby shot me down6
I had the perfect opportunity to finally do some hobby project coding: a 6 hour fight.
I take my fucking expensive laptop out of my bag, it's hot as fuck. FACKING WINDOWS 10 didn't shut down properly, took up ALL battery (which usually lasts ~12 hours). FACKING waste of 6 hours of private time. FUCK WINDOWS 10. FACK. I am now about to embark on 6 hours of boredom. FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT OS7
Is anyone getting any actual value out of them? As much as I dig agile some of the rituals plain just don’t work.
i think i've told this story before. but i used to get drunk and download malware just to "fight it".
*opens spam box*
i know what you are bitch!
*swig, hit download*
run you fuker!
*open debugger, swig*
would get too drunk and just nuke my box or vm the next morning but hey3
If you havent noticed Me (Haxk20) and C0D4 are having a fight over the ++ count.
I know that you are a smart person and you know what to do now.41
I am patiently waiting till someone makes me close my laptop or tell me some bullshit like 'stop hacking' inside ships/trains/planes
I am passive aggressive and willing to put up a fight :smileyface:5
My client changed the requirements again. I'm in pain.
- "You want to see pain?" my colleague said. Go read Apple support forums. That's pain.
I became addicted. Every time I died and every time I was born again. Resurrected.
During the night, I was crying in the Apple forums for an official answer that would never come. During the day, I was surfing StackOverflow to fix my problems. You get "single-serving" friends there. They help you, you help them, and then you never see them again.
- "Then you install Stack and boom, you're done. It's that easy to go functional."
That's how I met him.
- "No, why?"
- "So that they can distract you while they put backdoors in them. So that you don't have time to check all of their code".
- "You are by far the most interesting "single-serving" friend I've ever met"
Then, my hard disk died. Of course, I didn't have backups: nobody has enough space for all those node_modules folders. All my addictions, lost.
Then I wrote him. If you asked me now, I couldn't tell you why I wrote him. We chatted a lot.
- "It's late, I should really go search another hdd on ebay"
- "Ebay? You called me so you could have my old hard disk."
- "No, I..."
- "Come on."
He sent me his old hard disk. It was a 256MB hard disk, but it was fine for running Arch. Then he asked me to rant about my problems in front of him.
- "I want you to rant as hard as you can"
- "Are you serious?"
We ranted all night about our bosses and clients and their fucked up requests. We kept in touch, and after a while more people were ranting with us. Every week, he gave the rules that he and I decided.
- "The first rule of devRant is -- you don't talk about devRant. The second rule of devRant is -- you don't talk about devRant."
I like to think this is how devRant started. This might also be the reason why we never see @trogus, only @dfox. A lot of shit still needs to happen.8
Well, it finally happened.
After 25 years coding in all types of languages and environments, I’m no longer having fun.
It now seems like it’s a fight to get interested in the code. I used to be something that I would spend hours / days doing. Now I just want to walk away from the code.
Is it true (do you think) that after a while all you see is a for loop, an if statement, a null check and you just think to yourself. Fuck this! Because I think I’m there.
God it’s depressing to think that I no longer find it fun.4
The reason people never leave a Linux distro is because they spent so much time setting it up their minds are just mentally exhausted to ever think of doing it again.3
Had a fight yesterday with my brother about which is worse Windows or Linux. Couldn't win because he's ignorant about the advantages of Linux. Still waiting for the day to come when he gets screwed and has to use Linux! (Gif for visual representation!)40
@Everyone, I would like to congratulate @Haxk20 on being the victor of our little upvote fight.
It was a hard battle, and although I was ahead briefly, I would like to name @Haxk20 the victor!
As of post:
That's an impressive: 6,116 up votes in total from everyone involved.
As I have noticed requests for the repo, i would like to state It will be deleted, but I will re-release it as an empty template in the event others want to use it later - as per our original agreement.24
[Hears a commotion about a Java vs C# debate in the computer room]
Me: "Boys, you can't fight in here, this is the war room"
[eerie glare from the crowd]
Me: "uhhh... nya?"
[Everyone leaves the room]
oh, guess I'm gonna be doing the project by myself then2
I really truly want to run my own dev blog, but every time I write an article, I feel that it's too dumb and useless because I already know the thing I wrote. I know it's absurd, yet I can't fight my own anxiety about it.2
When you and your colleagues fight over code intending whether it should be a tab or ''x'' spaces.
My reply: It doesn't matter what you use!! It's like eating with either a fork or spoon, as long as you eat, dammit!!
>> goes to www.dazn.com to see if there's a trial so that I can watch a MMA fight next weekend.
>> Sees there is no trial
>> Googles it and finds out Canada has a trial
> > Changes the site from dazn.com/en-US/ to dazn.com/en-CA/
>> Signs up for free trial
Oh god, where to start? It is my job to fight against devs that likes to breaks RFC, do stuff stupidly or just do not actually know how stuff works8
I want to fight climate change because i want my snow back.
This is what matters.
Economical reasons? Nah
Being nice to earth? Nah
Doomsday reasons? Nah
I want to see snow in my city again? Yes!16
To all the developers fighting for a good architecture, and the designers fighting for good UX. You guys are the real heroes fighting the eternal fight.
Here's to you!
You know what's funny?
When every job post requires you to know atleast 20 things.. but then you find yourself stuck at a job that needs you to do 1 stupid thing. And you need to actually FIGHT to not lose all the skills and knowledge you collected till now :(4
When was last time you had Fight or Argument(restricted only to texting) with your GF/BF/Spouse while coding?
The amount of text typed on phone is more than the code on screen.8
So one of our clients is changing the IPs of his systems (3 servers and one VPN).
It was scheduled that we should support them yesterday. They have tried to change the IPs yesterday for almost 16 hours, don't know they have done in all of that time.
Today I woke up at 8AM on a Sunday (in weekends I just want to sleep!!!!) to continue and hope that we finish fast.
BUT NO! THE fucking VPN IS NOT WORKING!! We are trying to do this over Team FUCKIN VIewer.
But guess what... they cannot either connect to the new IPs from their local systems.1
Who has a DDOS attack story they want to share ? Dyn put up the good fight today... DDOS attacks can be incredibly difficult to deal with ... Internet of Things devices makes this an even more complicated situation. Outside of calling Prolexic, any vets have some good stories ?6
After years around devs of all levels of expertise I have found the following to be true mostly of junior developers.
Junior devs seem to like to pick out a single (or few) idiosyncrasies of a language/framework and then call it shitty overall.
While senior devs have seen the small idiosyncrasies of many languages/frameworks and know that none of them are perfect and those quirks come with the territory.
It may also have something to do with senior devs having less to prove and therefore not wasting their time of such useless language debates....
ROUND 1: FIGHT!2
Lessons from this picture:
1. Not all opportunities are to be taken. Some are traps.
2. A person can become so determined to destroy another person that they become blind and end up destroying themselves.
3. You fight best in your natural element and environment. Here the bird has advatange in his natural element.
4. Know your limits, we all have them.
5. Sometimes the best response to provocation is not to fight.
6. Sometimes to accomplish something you need team work, you will not always win alone.
7. Stick to what you do best and don't pursue what will kill you.
When you’re way more experienced and new to a team and are met with “but this is how we’ve done it for ages, and it’s done fine for us” but the sprint performance shows they’ve not completed one in 2 years.5
Look I'm a huge fan of Google (fight me about it, idgaf) but like G+ was such a fucking disaster and the fact it took this long is nothing short of a miracle lol11
i outed to my boss
During this moment, i had this in mind:
- we do not forget
- we do not forgive
- we are legions
bloody nose for me
heart issues for him
score : 1-1
I am leaving ...23
When you are a mobile developer and your company has only 3 android devices shared between Mobile, Testing and Design teams :|
And all teams fight for the device time
What the fuckin fuck..3
The new holy war in C#:
Point p = new Point(5, 3);
var p = new Point(5, 3);
Point p = new (5, 3);
Merry Christmas everyone.
I passed this day alone, in another country, away from family, friends and without anyone to hang out with.
On top of that my gf (she lives in my country) posted a video dancing with her ex.
So, enjoy your time with your family and friends, even they're not perfect they love you and care about you.
I m kinda sad right now, but I will fight this. I m gonna be alone and when the year change so i believe its time to strengthen my character.
Happy holidays boys n girls. 🙂4
I'm fed up of this fight about tab and spaces.
Do you prefer single or double quotes for strings?14
Programmers nowadays have to...
… write 100%-covering unit tests;
… set up continuous integration, linters, hinters, style checkers, …;
… follow style guides for every language;
… meet impossible deadlines;
… meet impossible management/customer/end user expectations;
… read through terrible code others made;
… read through terrible documentation others made;
… make terrible documentation themselves;
… fight with the IDE;
… fight with the build tools;
… deal with unreproducible crash reports coming in from everywhere;
… debug code written at 2am (by themselves AND others);
… KNOW HOW TO PROGRAM.6
Home for the holidays and my step dads drunk and screaming for a fist fight. Current mood: Childhood PTSD.8

A fight story (separation of concern) : work vs life
IT Director (IT'D) forwarded a client message (false detection) to my whatsapp (personal number). I am sitting next to his cabin.
After an hour,
ITD : what was the issue with the client x?
Me : (proved false detection),
ITD : did you emailed client?
Me : no, don't send me these in WhatsApp, if any issues, email me since I won't check whatsapp and there is no guarantee that I will reply you back.
ITD : why, don't be negative. Either you have to or me have to do it.
Me : Tell them to email.
ITD : That is not right.
Me : I don't care if you provide support via WhatsApp. But I don't. Unless you provide a separate mobile and connection.
End of story.3
A long time ago in an office far away, my cube mate and one of my reports got into a fist fight. My cube mate got fired over that. Messed up everyone’s entire week.
A couple months later, 9/11 happened and we all had to evacuate the city.
Spotify posted a youtube video and made an entire website (https://timetoplayfair.com/) to convince Apple of holding back their greedy subscription policies.
Dear Spotify, if you really want to fight Apple censorship or anything like that, go build yourself a PWA.
Read more in my article:
Got into a fight with a teammate last week (acting PM, she was) over how she basically failed to do her job.
Got blamed for talking about it by project owner. (basically, they wanted to make themselves feel good by passing down the blame down the blame chain... But I rebelled)
... Don't want to walk into the same meeting tomorrow. 😢😔😞9
Python prorammers ignore this.
Oh so now we got a fucking new fight started on devRant on which line to put brackets on.
Both conventions basically mean same thing and even no fucking ide is partial about the fact.
I usually never had like a serious fight with a other dev I have a really good team but occasionally when I do this is my response. 🙂2
Stubborner against stubbornest.
About a focking fact that was trivially true or false. Fun fact: it didn't matter anyway.
Boy, did we raise our voices and attract the attention of everybody in the room. Lesson learned.
When im programming everything is OK. Maybe im distracted but i can fight that.
But when it comes to Android ROMs and releasing then i hate people that send you PM about the ROM and the answer is literally in the first post.
Girlfriend wants to start a fight almost ending the relationship while I have to finish an app in 2 days and the Volley library is starting to get too complicated (should've learned Retrofit instead).
I'm doing the project alone because half of my group literally quit the course to study Advertising and Marketing in the middle of the project.
This is going to be one of those weeks...3
So I have this massive fight with a PM, yelling at eachother for 5 min. Once out of our system we sorted it out, no hard feelings
I wish we had more pm's like him1
My boss asking me to change my profile picture on LinkedIn in ?!
Do they have the right for such things? Keep in mind my current picture is professional. But she want all the company employees to have similar images in the same location with the same background !
Should I fight this or let it go ?!19
I'm trying really hard to fight the feelings, but in the interest of the bottom line... I think I can write this site over from scratch faster than I can fix it.4
HR: "People you got to keep believing in the software so we can succeed. You look like a pack of beaten dogs who have given up the fight".
I can choose to believe in God and that he will bless us with a miracle but that's not going to make it any more real than believing in the software is going to fix all the work still left. 😑2
Fight with something for 4-6 hours. Get pissed. Go to sleep. Solve the problem after 5 mins after waking up.1
I quit this startup side job coz I was over worked and under paid for 3 years and I decided it wasn't worth the mental fatigue and anxiety. Plus I didn't feel like it added any value to my life other than stress. Gave them at least 2 months notice (since February effective April 30th) coz as the only server side engineer+team lead, I did ALOT. Now they brought this hot shot new CTO who wants me to basically rewrite the entire app before I go while maintaining the existing system and making sure everything functions smoothly (there is a ton I chose to optimise to make things easier for the new dev who they have not hired and I have 4 weeks to go) . The app was built in mongo db now he wants it in mysql. Can't believe ask me this after breaking my neck and falling in and out if depression for this job?!! I want to laugh and scream at the same time.9
Trying to answer a React mapping problem on stackoverflow.
It's a relatively simple problem.
While I'm typing... all sorts of wrong answers keep popping out.
People are hungry for reputation
In the end, I removed my solution, and leave the answer in the comment. This is not my fight 🤦♂️6
So flashing microcontrollers gets kinda annoying when you have to simultaneously fight Windows defender's urge to flag the flashing software as Trojan every 30 seconds like a 10 year old kid with ADHD that just discovered coffee.
It doesn't get easier when suddenly only one of three USB ports recognises thumb drives with the current Windows version, and only after two reboots.
Maybe I should just run it in a VM like the three remaining QA testers at Microsoft do, but on the other hand I don't really like the idea of flashing firmware from a VM. Just feels even dirtier.28
Bind's unpopular opinions, chapter #fuckyou:
Linux for server, windows for desktop.
Tune in for the next episode where we fight off angery linux fanboys6
As some of you may remember about 5 months ago I bought a Lenovo laptop, it had some hardware faults so I got a new one and it had the same faults the store didn't want to offer me a new Lenovo laptop.
I was told to pick a laptop from a selection and today the store is trying to push the product away saying they can't do a thing.
Tonight I'm meeting with a lawyer because the fight has begun.8
So decided 'fuck it lets try the chromium based edge on my PC and Mac...'
And you know fucking what... It is actually fucking awesome, as much as I love Google (Fight me) and dislike Microsoft products, I can honestly recommend the new Edge over Google Chrome or any from of Chromium...
Thank-you for coming to my TED X talk....13
Worst fight with another dev was whether a textbox should have a height of 24px or 28px ... It lasted 30 minutes to resolve that4
If everyone on devrant was in a bar fight, what would they do?
I would run around and get killed...117
In all seriousness, I don't have a favorite because I don't bother learning about them.
When a client tries to sue but then realizes their fight was nullified by the signed contract.
Bird = client
Fox = Developer5
"This ethernet cable doesn't work because you made it too fast". ffs I had to fight for my grade that day.
When I started at my company I was full of energy and wanted to improve the whole codebase. After years of getting blocked by new projects with deadlines month short of the actual time required and missing a lot or all important bits (texts, images. you name it, it's missing) I kind of have up.
I do refractoring now and then but it's not as extensive.
My biggest sin was a nested for-loop that I came across (50+ times nested, previous dev really loved c+p).
I looked at it and started to write the recursive function but stopped half way through, fixed that one error I'm the loop somewhere around 30 levels down, committed and made myself a coffee.
I hate myself to this day for giving up.
Shit I'll just factor that loop tomorrow3
Happy first of may, happy international worker fight day to all the devs out there. Unighted we stand, duvided we fall3
Okay, let's get this fight rolling: here's a typical .net error message:
An error occurred. (An error occurred.) The type of this error was: An error occurred. Additionally, an error occurred while the error was occurring. The type of this error was: An error occurred.
Additional information: NullReferenceException at line... haha not really fucko, an error occurred.2
My friend has a saying that helps me keep focused and reality checked:
"Move Forward, Stay Flexible, Expect Resistance."
Say it to yourself often.
To all the devs out there fighting the fight, keep this in mind and push forward. One of the things I love about our industry is the wealth of information we share and the support we get from our mentors and each other.
Some of the jokes aren’t bad either.1
I am seeing more and more of these political statements and politically correct bullshit on coders forums up to the point where i got to the conclusion the *phobic people are being harassed for sharing an opinion of their own and attacked most of the time.
Are the *philic people actually themselves *phobic, and thus attacking anything that might conform their uncertainties? Is that the case?
Because unless you act upon your opinions you are not guilty of anything. If another is offended by your opinion isnt that an oppression of the sort?
I fear this will one day become a standard in forums that *phobic people should be more attentive to their opinions and shit i mean we are coders if we see beautiful code who the fuck cares what the coder is or represents if ur code is good i fucking love you and thank you. Now on the other hand my opinion of what you represent or what you are offends you? Well fuck sounds like a personal issue!
I'm a Windows slowly trying to convert to Linux (except for stuff that you need Windows for, obviously).
Being relatively new to desktop Linux, which distribution do you recommend with which desktop environment?*
Any tips for newbies? :)
*I'm aware that this could end up in a fight that divides devRant :P19
A group that I met at a gathering of my school wanted to make this 1v1 fight game.
We got a group whatsapp going, assigned roles, planned a meeting and discussed some general ideas.
I was excited and looking forward to developing.
Meeting comes: there are two people present, myself and the 'lead developer' dude. We discuss some general stuff about the setting of the game. I ask him what he is planning for the actual development: "I don't know yet, I'll look into it"
After that the group gradually stopped talking about it and the idea just died .....3
That feeling when the CEO gives a really positive pep talk about his future plans for the company but, deep inside you know your just caught up in a monkey shit fight that can never achieve the goals he’s laid out.
Why every day I have to fight for a charger cos the manager needs his phone on a constant charge from a power socket.
Fuck you and no I don't care that your shits gonna die now and yes, every fucking day we're doing this, don't fuck with me. My laptop > your phone and your ingress game2
Check out my simple universe emulator.
They fight, they have sex and make children, their genes drift and it produces mutations.
Who knows, maybe the entire history of our universe is two seconds in universe N + 1, where some child launched a program like that and it emulated us. We'll never know
Oh my god did you know the Windows registry has a folder for icon overlays, like the little checkmarks on OneDrive and Dropbox files?
Guess what. Windows only loads the first like 13 of the registered overlays *in alphabetical order* which has programs fight over the top spots by prepending spaces and whatnot on their registry keys. What a great system...4
In the zone coding... oh what's this? A text from the wife? Apparently now's the time to resolve last night's fight.2
Why do people put so much rbg in to their computers, rather than going for a more solid monochrome look or something?
RGB looks fucking bad, fight me16
My first TrumpScript:
A million is 1000000
and one is, million over million;
our great country is, 1000010 minus million;
make immigrants, country times million;
For as long as, we have immigrants greater than one;:
I say immigrants
I say "That wall just got ten feet taller!"
And we have to make immigrants go back, fight immigrants over country;!
say it with me "We made America great again!!"
America is great.1
I scoured my memory, and realized that I have never had a fight with another developer in all my years. Yes, there have been debates, but they were logical. There are even a few unresolved debates, due to preference and ideology, but never anything with enough emotion to be called a fight.
That's pretty cool. We are smart people and can discuss important issues without resorting to petty bickering.2
I just hate how my body believes that coding time and snack time are synonyms. Like ok, i might have been eating some chips or noodles while i was doin' the thinking, but hell, i cannot just empty 2 or 3 bowls of food each time i have to open and IDE.. How can you guys keep yourselves busy from eating when you fight the evil forces of bugged code?3
One language that I have always wanted to give more attentio to but felt as if I was in a constant fight was Haskell.
To me it felt unintuitive, and required a MAJOR shift in practice to get going. I really wanted to give it a chance but could not.
Every other language felt natural(even Lisp) but haskell for some reason seemed like a major mindfuck)41
If you get into a fight that concerns whether Android or iOS is superior, you’re not using technology... it’s using you. And it’s sad.1
Was discussing phones with a friend.
After a while, I said I use a Nexus 5X as my main driver with a Nokia 3310 (which I have for like 10 years already, they are that Finlay proof lmao) as an emergency backup.
So he said: "best backup ever, and if you have robbers, you throw it. Don't bring a gun to a Nokia 3310 fight"
I get why linux users fight with windows users..But what i dont get is the civil war between Ubuntu, Mint and the United Linux Alliance . Why ? Why not Ubuntu ?38
@dfox, @trogue I think with the birds, tigers, glass tables, monitors, and other toys in the avatars now. It's time for a new cartoon of the chaos and destruction that ensues when the pets fight!
Who's with me?2
How do you guys fight the urge to just screw it and implement a not so secure way of doing things, when you've been fighting with a bug for weeks?
No one would know!! 😂2
devRant help me!
I'm getting a lovely little tax return and am in the middle on what laptop to buy.
MacBook Pro (I like MacOS and build quality, fight me)
PixelBook (I'm a google fanboy and love ChromeOS so once again... Fight me)
What do you think would be the best option keeping in mind the PixelBook will run Linux apps as well...19
Not a fight I was involved in but one I observed. A junior dev on my team and a server ops guy had major personality conflicts. One day the server ops guy had enough and physically went after the junior dev. I was senior but still pretty new to my own career and had no idea how to handle it. Server guy got fired soon after. I was glad I didn’t have firing power and that he didn’t even report to me anyways.2
Most Devs I've met have been rational, so I'm fortunate enough to not have had a fight with a dev.
There was, however, one guy. Had to collaborate with him on a web app. I would fight with him almost everyday to not use deprecated tags, use proper CSS, not hack something together because it just works and the list goes on too long.
But I never succeeded in convincing him. Learnt that no matter how much you try, you cannot convince someone stupid
Part of me wants to save money to buy a pixelbook (yeah fight me) but part of me wants my new AMD build...
Decisions are tough kids...2
I'm still on my answer one question a day mission.
With this time, to fight back with "this doesn't work", I almost create codesandbox for every answer. (Assume there's enough info)
But, my gut tells me I probably gonna loss reputation again.7
I made one tiny comment to our manager about agility. Now said manager and my scrum master are in a huge fight about in what 'currency' (story points vs hours vs sprints vs flurps vs whatevs). They've been going at each other for the past 35 minutes. Also, my headphones died today....3
Not my hack but when I was in university, for one test we had to find all 3 digits number that satisfied current set of criteria. Friend of mine knew from earlier that solution is one number and written program that just prints that number. TA give him 0 points and he get in fight claiming that not only his solution was good but also most optimal one.4
Start up leadership advice:
Believe your employees when they say they feel a certain way, or saw there's a problem. Fight the urge to defend what you're currently doing that may address it, and just hear them out.4
I see it evolving the same way it always has done. The technology will keep changing for the better and the best stuff will emerge on top.
You have a choice to fight the current of new technology that is always flowing by learning and adapting to what comes. If you don't, and you stay stagnant with your chosen tech and skill level, the current will eventually carry away your relevance.
It's natural selection. You have to fight or die.
Pokémon go is fun, but it's not great.
Doesn't everyone think that it would be better to actually battle for your Pokemon's level?
They could perhaps keep a similar evo system (Everytime you fight you get like 1 poke candy)
This catch and release system is getting kind of annoying in my opinion.
I want to get attached to my Pokemon and actually feel like a trainer, not a garbage disposal for Pokemon.
They already have a battle mechanic, they would just need to enable ai battle algorithms and ambient encounters.
My scrum master said, 'I would optimize your work hours.' He's monitoring how much time every one spends on browsing non-productive webs like devRant. How can I fight back? :(6
They were fucking not. I used to get shouted at because I spend too much time infront of a computer. But funny enough everything was fine as soon as I started making more money than my parents while still being in high school. Now they take credit for my success but back in the day I needed to fight with them in order to get few hours of pc time.
Have a BA working and overseeing the team.
Development is an absolute shit show at the company.
Basically constantly focussed on putting out fires and reeling from the 100 WTF’s a minute thanks to the batshit code the yes-men offshore Indian devs had created.
I’m quite outspoken, and don’t just roll over when people are cunts to me.
I ended up in so many meetings about communication and tone, merely because I wasn’t putting up with the BA’s two-faced cuntery where he tried to be my friend but at the same time be an utter fucking jobsworth.
Genuinely, I really got so close to decking him a few times.
Random ideas about how I will fight and kill the terrorists who'll enter my room or rappel through the window1
So this is the story of myself getting from hating vim to find it pretty good.
When i started fiddling around with linux i was literally overrun by vim. I mean how the fuck should i remember all these stupid commands.
So there we go ... nano was my favourite (and only) editor i used.
Everything was fine in my little nano world. I saw some colleague editing every damn thing in vim. I asked him "man what the fuck are you damn crazy"? And thats where till that moment the deepest conversation about an editor in my life began. He told me he could do that much with vim, its almost everywhere nowadays and a must for any admin.
So after letting him tell me about every thing you can do he promised me he is going to help me getting started quicker. And i must say boi vim is really awesome. But for "real" development i still use a ide. Although i find myself programming go, python or bash scripts entirely in vim and its not that bad.
So if you find your way through the deep shit of that single damn command input down there you can get a pretty decent editor.
Dont get me wrong i am forced to use nano sometimes, when i help some of friends with their servers or so and they litterally uninstalled vim because they were to frustrated.
So as i am started to go into the devops area you get more and more towards you have to edit a file on a server, or just tweak around before automating the shit out of it.
And i must say vim has become a solid alternative for me to a full blown ide, or any other text editor.
So yeah i am gone from freaking hating vim to using it almost everyday. But why some people out their treat vim like a religion is not understandable to me in any way.
So whats your story why do you hate/love vim? Or are you just like me a "happy user" that would switch to another editor anytime it would be a better fit?3
**I move away from the mic to prepare for the --'s
Lol @ GPL... No license which proposes a restriction on the user's actions can be considered "free as in freedom".
The MIT license comes close, but mandates the inclusion of a copy of the license.
The WTFPL, while designed to use humor to bring attention to this very problem, still fails in its goal by incorrectly stating that "changing [the license] is allowed as long as the name is changed". Wrong: it's allowed because anybody is allowed to type what they want into a text document.
The only good one I've found is the Unlicense (http://unlicense.org). Unlike the others, it's not a prescription for what you may do with your own property, under threat of force; it's simply a friendly notice that you actually respect the rights of the user and would never imagine legally violating them.2
How do you personally pronounce sudo? Do you pronounce sudo at all?
Sue - Due?
Sue - Doe?
Sud - Oh?
I've heard all of the examples I gave before, but am curious about the community overall.15
Need to change host for my sites, but no money for a good one. Trying to put everything in one cloud (5 USD) but... How the duck can I create a mail server with multiple domains?
A good fight with postfix, dovecot... The first account, just to the sake of make it work, is almost working (I reckon)10
My company is supposed to be 'remote friendly'
Any request to work from home is a fight to get approved, regular days frequently get cancelled for vital meetings and best of all our infrastructure is so shit the VPN drops silently every 5-10 mins. Good luck doing a big merge or getting latest code.3
Adding "highly skilled in code divination and paying off bankrupcy-level technical debt" to my resume.
Thanks PHPepsi, you trained me good for this...1
Good afternoon guys. Long time no hear from me and I'm sorry about that. Had a lot health problems to fight.
I'm currently trying to list all processes that are running on my pc with a C# program. VS is running with admin rights but I'm still getting an error: "System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Access denied Error"
I tried googling it but if found the answer I didn't understand it.
Please help me.19
Sr. Management gives talk about leadership. What he/she doesn't understand is that leadership is like Fight Club.
The first rule of leadership is that you do not talk about leadership.
The second rule of leadership is that you DO NOT talk about leadership!5
I "fight" with another developer at the end of a school project (a website).
The "other developer" complained because he had received a lower rating than mine.
He went to the teacher telling them that I had to lower the evaluation because during the project I watched TV series, And the teacher replied: there are those who can do it and some like you do not.
He could not do it because when he concentrated he could not do anything, you think when he lost himself in TV series.
There were various quarrels because I had this attitude but a higher rating (and anyway with a product a thousand times better than his), while he gave 100% he could not do anything.5
Having a harsh life but being strong inside is better than having an easy life but no strength to fight.1
Had a little fight with my elder cousin, and he said just because I can Code , does not mean I know everything( made me feel like I'm a genius 😄 ')
We weren't even fighting about coding or related to it...
Then where the hell did that come from !?
Sitting 3h in a bullshit claiming and blaming meeting called 'refinement' as 'the tech expert' while PO and customers fight how stories and bugs should be priorized and importantly enough they discussed why the god damn bugfix isn't alive yet that was promised to be deployed this morning.. I was up to deploy it right the time they said I really have to go to that meeting... Yeah.. Business as usual
Worst argument/fight was on a game I was working on.
One of the other devs was waiting for me to write some server Code before calling the endpoints on the client.
After writing the server Code I added the client side Code and committed it to our repo.
They had a massive go at me for doing work for them and threatened to remove my Code and replace it with their own code.
Any devs out here who are into martial arts training ?
It's been a month since I joined kickboxing classes. However , I have never met a fellow dev who is into martial arts. What about you guys ?15
Fight? I always have cold wars with my fellow developers and mostly with that senior ass who takes all the fucking credits and presentations..
Say you had a yearly review and you asked for a decent raise (to compare you to market value).
Say the manager told you he will talk with the boss and fight for your demands.
After how long without an answer, you'll start looking for another job?
I am waiting for a response over two months now.6
I need your help.
I think I'm addicted to distractions and diversions. It's ruining my life and any chance to get experience.
Instead of actual developing, I constantly watch development tutorials and courses, listen to podcasts about development, read books and articles about development, post on development forums and go to development meetups.
I can't write a few lines of code without being 100% concentrated first, and afterwards I get distracted by everyday life events only to find myself at the end too tired to do anything productive and then surrender to sleep.
I'm getting depressed. How can I fight this? How can I push myself to work and be an actual developer?2
Day 2 of being a Linux (Mint Cinnamon) user. What I like the most is that there's a solution or customisation available for every problem and it's usually straightforward. And let's not forget that you don't have to fight the OS for folder permissions when you're in admin mode.
Migrated my data over from my old drive, installed Steam, got some work done. I like Cinnamon a lot. Need more RAM but that has been years in the making for me.
Just need to get Wine running and find some more cool open source games and tools and I'll be good to go.
How do you fight the urge to sleep around 11pm?
How do you fix the desire to stay in bed under blanket till like 8am?
I am at a stage in life where I love my bed and my sleep more than sex. 🤦♂️ (So forget about working at late night or early morning)
Gods, HELP me!6
"We're scanning the code at the office tonight.
We're looking for bugs to start up a fight.
There's a melting feeling in our brains.
But it's nothing new, you know it drives us insane."
Metallica - Build & Deploy
Soo.... when does devRant go from Fight Club to Project Mayhem? Will we have to stand outside of @dfox and @trogus's apartment for 3 days?2
A constant fight because the code style matters. If you think it doesn't, just go and die already.
If any of you great folks with no sense of code style are reading this, fuck you, fuck you all, you should leave your jobs and yes I am talking about these assholes who have like 15-20 years of experience in the industry but surprisingly I never heard of anything they made.1
Well i see those as two separate problems. To focus get a pot of coffee, put headphones on loud enough to tune out any outside noise, and lock the door. As for procrastination lean into the damn skid, go find something you like to do and come back later. The longer you fight it the more unproductive time you're going to have, and in my experience i get more done in 3 productive hours than i do in 8 unproductive hours1
The only difference between a beginner dev and a veteran dev is that the beginner is afraid to touch what he doesn't know, while the veteran embraces it.
Accept that you don't know all and will never know everything. Even so, learn something new everyday. Fight your ego when it tries to make you keep only what you know and reject everything else. Fight that bastard.
The world needs less "I know", and more "I wanna know". And remember, devs should be in the "I wanna know" team.
sudo rm - rf ego
sudo apt-get knowledge-upgrade
You can make WSL and VSCode fight over how a csproj should be written. VS2017 doesn't care and runs no matter who was previous.
Just got on a fb argument because I said something along the lines of: mfkers that throw the finger in a pic are the same mfkers that will quickly disappear from a fight
Yo, if your ass is though enough, then it is. Flipping the bird at a pic makes me think you're willing to throw hands if needed be.
Anecdotal evidence proves it ain't real3
I hate when people say "why do you prefer programming instead of football/sports? " . I like sports but I hate all the super addicted people who fight just because someone said " I don't follow your team".
Is too bad to say that I don't know all the players of a team ? If I say so there will be always someone saying " We know that, you are a fucking nerd.".
Oh well sorry for the angry post. I am more calm now.9
Spring boot does very much automagically.... but to find every possible configuration is hard....
I found out that it has an automatic config for Scheme Server... but how the fuck to configure it 😑
And do I still need avro made domain objects 🤔 it's hard to fight through all these documentations and versions of spring. 😖
Can anyone point me at a cms that I don't have to fight with design and programming wise but is still easy for someone not even close to tech savy to edit and add content?15
“no.... thats not how asynchronous code works.”1
I don't like classes and I will fight anyone that over uses them for no logical reason what so ever !! 😐6
From now on I won't be supporting ie. Instead I will just show a page saying fuck you. Maybe then people will stop using that garbage.2
So who are battered husbands here like me but doesn't fight or hit back because he loves his wife so much?21
Writing my 13th tech book... which is nice and all... but this pandemic, plus absolute shit weather for weeks, is hammering my motivation. All I want to do is sit on the couch under a blanket and hammer my Netflix queue. But, I signed a contract, I have deadlines, so gotta get my ass moving (and fight to ensure this lethargy doesn't show up in the prose). As my daughter says: the struggle is real.4
How to make a shitty job, shittier... Having to fight to keep a wifi connection every single day, working on a remote windows system, on a POS laptop running an even more locked down windoze install than the freaking Dev VDI. Good Lord this is devastating...1
Well Twitter is becoming spyware.
I mean, I get they want to fight against neonazis and co. but sadly there's no guarantee to believe they'll stop at only banning these people.
I'll probably add twitter to my uBlock filter...4
Time to face the truth.
I'm being moved from one team to another. Which is great.
But the reason I'm being moved is to take over for another dev. So that dev can get a promotion. So basically I'm getting a promotion, without the pay raise.
I can't fight this either.
So I'll take this as an opportunity to get all the experience. Also begin looking around.1
So I found the reason of kernel panic, my laptop's hdd is fucked, lost all the data. Now using a live usb until I get a replacement. Silver lining is I won't install windows for dual boat and replace elementaryOS with arch linux. I want a proper fight now.1
Anybody heard anything about this?
Its a interview with a senior google software engineer who leaked information about Google's machine learning bias, censorship, hiring practices, and much more. I think that Google's censorship based on the company's own political standing is disgusting. While I do not associate with either political parties (I feel like I don't know enough politics to have an opinion), I do detest any censorship of speech and information. Maybe unbiased search engines like duckduckgo will rise in the future.
p.s. sorry if there's bad formatting, I am on mobile.1
The first rule of devRant is;
we DO NOT talk about devRant.
The second rule of devRant is;
WE DO NOT TALK about devRant!2
What's your favourite under appreciated programming language?
By that, I mean a programming language that isn't widely used but deserves more recognition?
I'll leave the exact definitions for you 🙂12
When there is no domain layer so the controllers are 2k+ lines of spaghetti, so after 5 months trying to fight iet you just give in and ask the gods of code for forgiveness1
So many people on devRant rave about iPhones because of the better security and privacy, but the new iPhone X starts at a whopping $1000! Sure, you don't have to get the X, but that's what everybody wants.
You'll say "well, I'm willing to pay more if it means better security because that's just the way it is." It doesn't have to be. It would be much more beneficial to actually fight and take a stand for better security and more privacy than just put up with outrageous prices.1
Things that should not go together!
* Using the restroom
* Can be used as a floatation device.
Not going into details, but damn...
The fight is real!2
How are you all enjoying those restaurant websites lately? I have to fight the urge to try and build one. It sounds like a bad idea... but - I just think - they could be improved!!! Any good examples out there?7
After a 3 hour fight with a custom Ajax request I have won the fight of getting a limiter run on the output. My goal was to only display x amount of result from a Json response and I finally got it working by putting everything in a if statement. Might not be the cleanest way but it works.
Any disposable e-mail address service:
"FIGHT THE SPAM"
"THANK YOU FIGHTING THE SPAM"
"YOU DID GOOD BY FIGHTING SPAM"
The users of disposable e-mail address:
*creates another spam account*
*creates another multiaccount in order to exploit a system*
Companies actually fighting spam:
Now there is even more spam to fight against. (which is not good)
About 2/3 of the accounts created daily on our website are spam accounts. We have to waste our time with this shit instead of actually improving our services. Since we do not track IP-Addresses and there are countless amounts of disposable e-mail domains AND there is still the option to create countless spam e-mail addresses within legit e-mail providers, there is no easy way of stopping this madness.
"Fight the Spam", you could start by deleting your shitty service or at least give us a list of all the domains you're using, srsly.
Never had a real fight referring to any development - stuff, because most devs around me are more experienced and most of the time I can see the point in their opinions. I definitely had some discussions about some constructs in C++ for example. But thats it.
How you guys fight against tiredness ? Coffee doesn't really work on me and qui can't sleep good during summer...6
The world is going crazy behind KSIvsLoganPaul fight...now I am thinking...I should have made a website for live updates...6
If you call it Sequel and not S.Q.L and you happen to be from India, I will assume you’re a corporate shmuck. Fight me.13
We had a discussion about coding style. At one point I said that it’s his personal opinion and not an objective fact. He went full on rage mode and said that he takes this as an personal attack. Then another dev chimed in, telling me to listen to the older devs, because they know more.
Not really a big fight, but stuff like this makes me mad as hell.1
Fuck you System dot fucking Value fucking tuple you stupid piece of shit reference. This garbage half the time won’t install properly on local, app works fine on local without it, then I fight with it for hours getting it to work on the server because the server is a different .NET environment. It’s always this one giving me problems, always.
So go fuck yourself System.ValueTuple
i hope to have some fun with each other
But if you want to fight with me, I'm ready to defeat you
Stuck here with PHP doing his PHPices and just get to think about something really important... If two cats starts to fight is this a CATastrophe? Ok, better fix this amazing SQL exception.
Implementing a third-party link shortner:
Keep hyperlinks in-house. Keep ’em fast. Fight the good fight.
They tried to mark him, they even tried compacting him and his children, but this old generation instance is not going down without a fight. He’s in a big heap of trouble, and he’s running out of time. You better count your references, because this summer’s stop-the-world event will have you staying at work all night: Memory Leak: Production is in your code NOW
What do you think about autogenic training by Johannes Heinrich Schultz or meditation in general ?
Do you use it ?
I got back to meditation, autogenic training and walking and I feel better, it helps me fight with my anxiety.1
Yeah sure it is totally the fault of framework X being less popular than framework Y. That is the reason why you don't find devs for framework X.
The low pay and bad organisation has nothing to do with this. Yes it is probably the best idea to take the 4 years of work in X and continue it in Y. The devs will fight for a job where an Y app is integrated into an X app...
Do you have days where you are stuck on something and you tell yourself: "Damn it, I will figure this out today!"?
Yeah, I hate obscure problems too.6
I never had a fight. And I mean never at all, not just dev-related.
I'm not sure that this is a good thing.
Sometimes I wonder, does this mean that I'm a good diplomat, or that I'm not relevant enough to argue with?1
Should we fight RIAA? I think we shouldn't even acknowledge its existence.
Every zoomer knows where to get every type of content they want. Every zoomer knows where to get it for free. This is what I always strive for — to make walking over RIAA our culture, to walk over RIAA without even knowing RIAA exists. Zoomers really pay for digital shit only when they feel like it. If something is "taken down", zoomer still gets it in like thirty seconds, maybe two minutes maximum if the thing wasn't popular. This became the basic internet skill and oh how I like it.
For every problem they make, we invent a solution. We have the fundamental and unbreakable principle of the analog hole (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...) AND the smartest people on our side, they only have the greediest.
We don't have to take down RIAA and others. We don't have to fight — we already won.11
Was prepared to fight tooth and nail in recent online codesprint. Well in short, I overestimated my ability to study for tests and now i have 2 choices: study for the test that is 2 days later, or code for 2 days to maintain my rank...
i opened some site on chrome bc i expect new results and there aint none so i figured maybe its bc of the cache of my browser
so i opened firefox
firefox took over 2 minutes to load (yes literally over 2 minutes) and it still DIDNT load the site so i lost patience and closed firefox
i opened internet explorer
internet explorer opened the site in 4 seconds.
chrome > ie > firefox
edit: but of course the js on ie doesnt even fkig work so i couldnt do shit either way4
Junon's Zen of Tabs:
Tabs for lexical indentation, spaces for alignment.
Tabs always come first, and never after a non-tab character.
This is the only way it should be.
I do not have an open mind about this. Fight me IRL.13

During a fight with a co-worker usually it is not about what happens in that moment. I kinda keep my cool. Then later I become passive aggressive. Start replying with single word responses. Intentionally get that dumb fuck into trouble during meetings. Sarcasm overflows.
You know I used to be fucked up in almost every aspect of life: academically, socially, financially etc. But I am happy I am able to fight back. After my college semester exams finished, I am so happy to enjoy such a great social life. Like I can go and hangout each and every day and night, whereas earlier I would be in my room all day and night, infact even my neighbors would question my existence. But now its so much fun to hangout, feels really great. :')
GUYS I WANT A FUCKING GUITAR HERO USB CONTROLLER SO I CAN PLAY IT ON PC BUT I DON'T WANNA SPEND LIKE $50 ON ONE AND IT JUST MAKES ME SO SAD
I just wanna say that the Xplorer is the BEST guitar controller and I will fight anyone who disagrees.2
Computer software/program is a product of research and development, not a product of labor.
Just build it, build it, build it, build it
No one wants to be defeated
Showin' how funky and strong is your fight
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right
Just build it, build it
Just build it, build it
Just build it, build it
Just build it, build it
So I just purchased the base model 2018 13"macbook pro (Fight me) and am finnaly thinking about giving xcode a chance and trying native mac development seeing as my Mac wont double as a radiator when I open it.
Am I going to really be in a world of hurt or will i be surprised?4
Android studio has a mini version of TensorFlow,
Me: makes an AI Gallery Vault
Gets Notification: "Seems like you have a spouse and there are inappropriate pictures in your photos and downloads that could potentially start a fight, do you want to automatically hide them?"4
I used vim, Sublime and most recently vscode. I had Webstorm lying around for about 2 months now, and I'd really like to switch to it but it's constant fight, and not one im winning either... :(
Any advice from fellow "devs who rant" ?6
"the fight between tor and regimes that censor the internet is a fight of \"well that's not quite apache so it's tor\""
hear me out here:
then fucking don't be.
Switch it up a little, get creative! No one's gonna expect you to be relaying Tor through like a Minecraft chat or a fucking Doom server or over SFTP or Teamviewer or...
(of course it's not gonna be those protocols but they're already faking Firefox/Apache signatures so do that shit with other protocols)9
Not a particular fight, but sometimes it really gets on my nerves when they excuse themselves with "well, it works locally, so you/AWS/OS/the internet must've screwed up".3
and before thy kingdom; there is a great invisible path which is yet to be discovered; with fog and obstacles; and thou who dares to fight through it with abundance and persistence; thy shall acquire thee kingdom3
How do you get fellow teammates to participate in Lunch and Learns?
Anyone have good tips or tactics in how to engage your team to want to present or talk about topics they care about?
How can they do this without it feeling like it's Extra work on top of all the jira fires they fight?
Besides bribe them with food ... That's a given. 😉😉3
IMHO: VS Code = Gnome (I love it but it's a constant fight)
Sublime = Unity (Not bad and reliable)5
Um working on the solution to eradicating escalating diseases application and web based application..... Have three sections: 1. Emergency
2. HIV/tb monitoring/ report
3. Public info.
Iam gud at writing and codes but not good at expressing myself.
.any innovative fellow dev that can add me another section that I need to consider....my projects mission is to fight against disease world wide....any contribution or new ideas ?
So I have negligible experience doing mobile app development (simplish hello world Java app few years ago).
What's your advice to start getting into it? Flutter? Kotlin? I honestly dont have a clue. I want to target Android at first but very like this needs to support iOS as well.
I'm quite the experienced dev so I dont need some something to hold my hand, yet I dont have the time currently to fight a steep learning curve.3
