All O RLY book covers. I laughed so hard that my head is blowing right now :D

its amazing how far technology has come. I can edit a hi-res image in real time with a computer smaller than my hand.10

I hacked this mini-project yesterday night, Computer generated photo-montage by scenes extracted from the movie.
It's an end to end python script which will work for any video and a high res poster.28 -
Well, it happened!
After decades of waiting, it finally happened...
Very early on in my career, I was told that one day, one of your client will ask you to make the logo bigger.
Well, today was that day.
My client didn’t really understand just how much of a negative impact it would have on his site’s navigation by making his always obnoxiously larger ugly icon an additional 10% bigger.
He also failed to understand aspect ratio and forced me to stretch his low/res raster image without scaling it in all 2 dimensions.
He actually used the line from the infamous song “...I don’t want to tel you how to do your job by can you make the logo bigger?”
https://youtube.com/watch/...3 -
I don't mind if you down vote my answers on stack-overflow. But unless you leave a better answer or a comment explaining why, you are a fucking troll and an asshole.
I MEAN, YOU SHOULD TAKE A BIG STEP BACK AND LITERALLY FUCK YOUR OWN FACE!!!!
You aren't helping me or others learn from our mistakes by showing us the better way.32 -
Web Development on a single laptop is tough....
Window 1: editor, tabs for markup, styles, server, terminal
Window 2: browser...so small that everything is in low res mode, if not mobile.
Window 3: database, stress testing system and making sure data flows properly.
Window 4: design specs.
*shudders*5 -
so I compiled and printed some mini stickers for my laptop and thought I'd share them with the community. Great if you want to be subtle or don't like big stickers clogging the looks of your precious babe. All images are high res so you can expand them if you'd want that.
(stickers use black background cuz my laptop is black and its easier to cut out but you can change that)

Anyone care to explain why programs nowadays use so much bloody RAM? We went to the moon on what amounted to a bunch of potatoes wired to each other, Linux (a whole bloody OS) with a graphical interface consumes only a couple hundred MB of RAM, but my IDE needs 1+GB?
Seriously, unless you're handling very large amounts of data (like a high res image or doing some insanely crazy math, I doubt there's any need for such high usage. I get it, 8/16GB is commonplace, but that doesn't mean more should be used for shits and giggles...33 -
Pet-peeve: fellow devs who think scoffing/dismissing/not-my-probleming before actually understanding the issue is a sign of intelligence; newsflash: you are being lazy, disagreeable and unprofessional.1

So, I've been programming a number of years, mainly .net, I've been looking at python recently and it just seems wrong to use variables without declaring them. It just seems dirty11

So client wants like a certain type of stone as the background of his website. Okay fine, I ask him to send me "good high resolution pictures" of the walls.
Some time later, I get the pictures. They're 500x300 px give or take , I mean come on xD3 -
Okay. So this Is my first rant. Don't you hate it when a client provides you with really crappy res images for a project? this tends to happen a lot...5

One of my customers' laptop background (removed sensitive information and desktop icons).
Coworker: When you really love Chrome, but don't know what hi-res is!8 -
First Rant here.
So I was working on some integration test issues when I found this by accident made by a professional level SW engineer:
@Test
public void testMethod() throws ApiException {
Response res = null;
try {
res = serviceToTest.callMethod();
} catch(Exception e) {
assertNull(res);
}
}
Was wondering why tests were being green after some code changes I've made cuz tests could have not been green afterwards.
Together with a senior (I'm also professional only) I've tried to explain him for a good 1-2hrs why this code is useless and he still did it. Good thing there are no errors in the real implementation from him after fixing the tests as it's code freeze here and we are having go live in a few days 🙃
Also luckily he isn't working on our code anymore and has only been doing so for a few weeks.
Wasted a day with it and gonna check all of his code now before I run in the next surprise.1 -
I created a windows 10 wallpaper for the fun of it, insult my editing skills as you wish :)
It's 4K, the full res image is here: https://imgur.com/a/LqLuKbo3 -
Installed Manjaro KDE, updated macOS, updated Windows and fixed the mess in the EFI made by those actions.
And now it’s time for screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/KviNx

I keep seeing comments like “This should be on spotify” under youtube videos. Guess what — I download them with youtube to mp3 converter, drag n drop them into apple music, and boom, it syncs to my phone. They live among apple music-native tracks. They don’t eat up icloud space (I don’t use icloud), and they don’t disappear when apple music subscription expires. I don’t know any music streaming service that has everything in hi-res or lossless and allows that.11

Just got the most aggressive GDPR email so far, the title was "accept or we delete your account" the email contained lot of bullshit and at the end it says "if you don't accept our current terms of service, we will delete your account" and a very low res "yes I accept" button smashed 4 times throughout the entire email, well, watch if I care, just making it even easier for me to ignore that shit.4

I used to collect rubber ducks back in college. I was absolutely crazy about it and tried getting my hands on almost all different types available like the Punk duck, the Pirate duck, the Weed duck....and so on.
I met this girl who was into the same thing and we ended up banding together to create a sort of webpage where we'd write crazy and hilarious origin stories for each of these ducks. We'd go to great lengths to create ridiculous comic book style encounters between them and had a lot of fun doing it.
We dated for a while but it didn't last.2 -
Need to implement something huge on a app that I'm working on.
The design team is not from my company.
All the design that I have is in a PDF that I can't extract the images and they are low res.
How the actual fuck do they expect me to do a good job if I don't even have the design and assets to work with -
SharePoint things that I get yelled at by customers for:
Setting up page permissions wrong (even though the real problem is that a coworker didn’t check the page in)
Writing the workflow wrong and nobody is getting emailed (even though they didn’t select who to send the email to)
Not magically knowing that they wanted the new intern (who started Tuesday) to be given full design rights on their page
Not magically knowing that their discussion mod quit a year ago (before I started here) and now nobody can feature a post
Not spinning up an entire new site so that they could post a link to a single sign up sheet for their team (of 10 people) barbecue
Somehow making it so MS Edge can’t handle high res images correctly (because I totally created Edge (which isn’t even a supported browser here))
Not responding immediately when they submitted a ticket at 7:00pm (I’m off at 5) asking me to change one word on a page they have edit rights to
Not giving their admin assistant global design rights for our entire organization
Not giving them access to a confidential folder that has nothing to do with their job
Telling the owner of aforementioned folder that they’re not allowed to store confidential data in SharePoint
Making workflows too confusing for them to figure out
Fixing shit workflows that their ex coworker built wrong
Generally having the word SharePoint associated with my name2 -
Oh so you have a merge conflict this weekend? The only time of the week I try not to think of ripping your nob off, tying a noose around your neck with it and drowning you in a well full of piranhas? Right, right...
How about you take that dick that you've been trying to locate since you were 5 and practice choking on it every day till you die just so you have enough experience to suck demon dongs in hell for eterniity! I seriously hope you die of cancer you fucking wankstain!
How about you go home and keep disappointing that whore of a wife of yours, you know that stinking pile of shit that you stick your dick in every two weeks?1 -

Look at this bullshit. Open your devtools and go to the network tab. This shit deadass takes 18 MB to load initially. And why? Images. High-res images.
And let's not even talk about the sheer amount of JavaScript loaded.2 -
I love react native but I hate the fact that I have to type
cd android && ./gradlew cleanBuildCache && cd .. && react-native bundle --platform android --dev false --entry-file index.js --bundle-output android/app/src/main/assets/index.android.bundle --assets-dest android/app/src/main/res/ && cd android && ./gradlew assembleDebug

...another (probably about fourth) completely futile attempt at making MASM compiling pipeline work...
...what the fuck... seriously, i've spent together about two weeks of time trying to make a fucking default hello world compile... ml64 problems, then rc.exe problems, apparently i was missing some dumb CommonService.dll which not only doesn't exist anywhere on my computer, but it doesn't even seem to exist at all in this fucking dimension. After several hours I had the bright idea of "fuck MS rc, let's just grab any other random resource compiler that I can find, and see if that one works".
Funnily enough, it does. Except Visual MASM can't run it from it's build process because it fucks up the commandline call, so I need to run it manually, and then when I run the build from V-MASM, the rc call still fails, but then it checks for the resulting .res file and finds it, so it happily continues with success...
...and now fuckin... what even is it? *goes to check*
oh yeah, now linker is shitting itself:
LINK : fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'user32.lib'
And I'm just completely defeated, just searching system-wide for the lib intending to copy it into the linker folder because fuck this fucking bullshit, I've had enough of drowning in MS BuildTools versions and installations and uninstallations and fixes and modifys and repairs and all that FUCKING BULLSHIT.
HOW. THE. FUCK. is this in any way usable for anyone. I suspect nobody ever actually tried to build an assembler project in the last 30 years, so nobody noticed it DOESN'T. FUCKING. WORK.
THIS.
THIS is why I hate anything that's not a proper IDE where I install ONE thing, and do everything in that ONE IDE and let IT figure out all this linuxy-soft-coupled bullshit of twentyfuckingthousand fucking useless commandline apps threwn around the whole fucking system where I'm fucking supposed to know where the fuck what is and which version and GO FUCK YOURSELF.
GIMME. FUCKIN. ONE: IDE. WHICH. WILL. INSTALL. ALL. THAT. IT. NEEDS. TO. BE. FUCKING. ABLE. TO. FUCKING. WORK. AND. COMPILE. SHIT!!!

I just want to play my bullet hell games and watch panel shows at the same time, but nooooooo. Windows needs to push all windows all the way to the right to a seemingly non-existing monitor. And I've tried all the "Adjust Deskotop Size and Position" options there are with absolutely no luck.
What makes it even worse is when I google the issue I get tonnes of solutions like this: https://superuser.com/a/420927
"Just set the games resolution to your monitors resolution", which I can't!
Oh but I can use ResizeEnable to make it possible to, well, resize the game in windowed mode, which used to work great but has since begun to make the game stutter :<5 -
Interesting read: https://observablehq.com/@eeeps/...
TL;DR: Diminishing returns from higher smartphone resolutions. The visual jump from 1x images to 2x is huge, but more than 2x res images in the img/picture scrset isn't worth the additional loading time.4 -

It's always amazing to fire up a PS2 game and go "Wow... this PS3 game looks great!" an hour later before realizing it's still a PS2. Take Final Fantasy 12, for example: the environments are massive and gorgeous, all the textures look nice, and it's a MASSIVE GAME. Sure, in some areas the environment flavor stuff has really noticeable draw-in and there's no AA and some of the area textures (buildings, floors, the like) are noticeably low-res on close inspection and it's only running at 480i, but when playing, lack of AA and resolution are basically invisible and in most areas the env flavor draw-in is still really far off. It *feels* like a mid-life PS3 game, which the creators deserve mad props for. (I have yet to try upscaling via homebrew, when I get a hackable PS2 i'll see if it looks any better at 720p or 1080i.)
This isn't the only game like this, I have at least 4 that look like PS3 games on-disc, and like 12 more waiting for a hacked PS2, this isn't uncommon. They crammed so much flavor and life into 40MB of total VRAM and it's absolutely fucking nuts.10 -

Hey there poweramp user, do you like the simple interface that you've been using for the past few years?
Do you like your high-res lockscreen album art?
FUCK YOU. We are changing all of that with our newest beta update and we're not even gonna have an option to use the old interface.
Also enjoy this nice zoomed in 100x100 album art in your lockscreen
(I actually like the new design but it god damn bothers me that the album art res is so shit)1 -

Screw Scrum, screw it very much. Is it a task or a story? Oh let's make it a story to track points. What are points, really? *20 minute grilling always follows* Well they're kind of a roundabout way of talking about time without talking about time, mkay? But last time 2 points took you a day, what gives now? What do you mean points are for internal use, but how will management plan ahead for next quarter? Ok, let's mix in all those new people, and propotionately bump the expectation for the sprint, mkay? Yeah, they did 34 points per sprint over there, we'll just add those in. Oh, and by the way, after the 4-day estimation session we had where everyone was seizuring, I scheduled us at 645 points for the coming quarter, mkay? Don't worry, I added 15% for the "unexpected dtuff" so you're safe. Fuck you scrum, scrum-fall, whatever you are. Lost a dev lead role once for being honest about it after a year with a team that loved me, and projects completed more or less on time. Been reconsidered for a dev lead role for being honest about it in another place. Somebody else peddle this kool-aid, this one prefers a walk-on role in the wall to a lead role in the cage.5

Since when is blender utterly unusable for meshes > 500k tris. I have 32 gig RAM and it's literally unusable. You try to do anything and it fills up your entire RAM and dies. No matter what you do
Like fucking really? I can't add a subdivision surface modifier to a mesh with 800k tris? Is that too much to ask for
I'm so fucking pissed off right now. I've already wasted an hour trying to export ANY high res model and zero luck so far. Either blender just crashes. Or the exported model doesn't contain any geometry. Or the exported model doesn't contain tangents (even though I explicitely enabled them). Or I try do enter edit mode and it crashes. And then every damn time I have to renavigate to the blender folder (because of course you can't start blender just normally, no no that doesn't work) and when blender crashes it nukes my terminal as well. And then I have to reload the stupid model. And then I have to do what I'm trying to do hoping it doesn't crash. And then it crashes anyway8 -

We had a dispute @ work yesterday on this topic :
aproach 1 :
$res = getSomeData( [ 'filter_1' => 'str_1', 'filter_2' => 'str_2', ... 'limit' => 10 );
with
function getSomeData( $data )
{
...
}
VS
aproach 2 :
$res = getSomeData( 'str_1', 'str_2', ... 10 );
with
function getSomeData( $filter_1 = '', $filter_2 = 'default_str', ... $limit = 20 )
{
...
}
I had used 1-st b/c IMHO it's more dynamic and easy to maintain and call ( especially when there are many params, most of which not used on each call )
and my colleague didn't liked it w/h his main arguments that one can not easily see the needed params and no default vals for them ( the latest could be easily corrected in the function body ). I'm curious to read your opinions, arguments & contra arguments for each aproach12 -

Is there anyway to get a high res version of the close up image? I want to use it in other services but i can only find a 150x150 jpeg :(4

Yeah, we *COULD* do AWS for the home (and homebrew as well) RPC program server... or I could get a Raspberry Pi 3B+ for the house. I mean... it'd be cheaper and easier to access.
(Low-res screenshot warning, too.)3 -
Context: at my current job I work as a product photographer as well as studio admin. On side I go online to different brands websites in search for product images (if we haven't the product in store yet).
Now the banger, I searched for some peacoat colored pants but the brand didn't put it out yet. Pulling out some Super AI hacks I changed some stuff and things in the URL (color ID + small amount of ?doThisAndThatPhP) and... BOOM result! Right color, high Res image. The Color isn't searchable or shown via Google or the brands page, but the image is already on their server 🤔*yoinking the image*
Just wanted to share it with you guys 👌 none at my coworkers speak computer 😔

Since my XPS battery is dying I'm flirting with an idea of a new laptop. Requirements:
- 13" display
- 4k display (I'm so used to high-res that x1080 looks like accessibility mode)
- 16 (worst case), 32 (OK), 64 (possible?) GB RAM
- long battery life
- i7 or Ryzen equivalent (I need lots of ram, lots of computing power)
- plays nice with Linux
- GPU preferably integrated (don't need a separate GPU)
- ultrabook (small, compact, light) (I don't like to exercise while carrying it. God forbid I'd grow a muscle... )
- purrrrtty :)
So far the best candidate I've found is... XPS13 again :D The setup I'm after costs ~1.6k€ which is not that bad, really.
Is there anything else in the market that'd meet the criteria? Anything worth looking into? Better deals?19 -
I halfway remade a 2d radar in shadertoy (original in description).
https://shadertoy.com/view/wt3SR7/
(watch it in 640x360 by zooming in or out until you get that res, I tried to main aspect ratio, but I hardcoded one value because I'm lazy)
shaders are tough to get started with:
no breakpoints.
logging doesn't make sense so it's avoided.
if's are replaced with step statements.
if you suck at math, you suck at shaders.
if you suck at trig, you suck at shaders.
hardcoding values is viable debugging.
hail hsb2rgb for pretty colors (I have no fucking idea how does it work though).
I tried writing here the challenges I found while making it, but most of them are heuristics and are hard to follow/explain in just text.
I can say though, that sometimes you come up with a solution, but it doesn't look really good, so you have to use something else.
or sometimes you come up with a solution but it also creates unwanted coloring that you have to erase.
or sometimes you have no fucking idea what your operations results are, or you get dizzy by the math. Hardcoding helps wonders.1 -
At the weekend I was having a play around trying to make an AngularJS front end for Wordpress using their API.
I was following a tutorial, and noticed when retrieving post titles they were using .success, which had been deprecated, so switched this to .then. Still not working, and my google GOP was being weak, so I popped over to Stack Overflow.
Turns out that when I changed .success to .then I should have also changed
$scope.post = res;
To
$scope.post = res.data;
Why is always the little things that get missed? -
I'm betting that it's just me... but this whole (req, res) in express.js is hard to adjust to. It may as well be (r, s) or anything that doesn't look so similar. I'm writing (request, response) but I'm thinking about just using entirely different words that don't start with the same letter.1

when i place my hands on keyboard they automatically start typing function(req, res, next)... should have already made a sublime shortcut for it...2

In JS/Node, is there a performance and memory cost to nested functions?
I.e.
function handle(req, res)
{
var x = 5, y = 10;
function add() { return x + y; }
function multi() { return x*y; }
res.send(add() + multi());
}
As opposed to taking out the 2 functions and making them accept x,y as parameters.6 -

I know I sound stupid but I need help, I create a repo on GitHub using gh-api ```js
export async function createARepo({name,description,token}) {
const headers = {
"Authorization": `token ${token}`,
"Accept": "application/vnd.github.v3+json",
}
const {data} = await axios(
{
method: "POST",
url: "https://api.github.com/user/repos",
data: {name,description,auto_init: true},
headers
}
)
return data
// console.log(res)
}```
when I run this code it only creates an empty project with a readme but I also want to create a file with a .html extension of the project can anybody help me with how I do this?7 -
The biggest distraction is every other bloody department in the organisation, other than development.

Hey guys, do you know of a good way to share and exchange high-res videos with people who are not so savvy with computers?
I can only think of dropbox, but the space is limited and I was told it is not ideal for such huge files as videos...14 -
Quick question for everyone who wasn't fully remote before march:
What kind of setup did your company provide? Did you have nice ergonomic chairs/desks? Monitors higher res than 1080p? Mechanical keyboards? How powerful was your workstation?9 -
RES software
They got bought up by Ivanti but such assmonkeys evrything is next next finish untill something doesn't work or comply 🥲
Then it's backtrack backtrack undo till you find out what is wrong, within the development cycle they assume alot everything works, and you want the settings they recommend ... LOL

I have a question about Android dark theme
I've added dark theme support for my application using 2 different themes declared in styles.xml.
On official android developer site:
"In order to support Dark theme, you must set your app's theme (usually found in res/values/styles.xml) to inherit from a DayNight theme"
and this is what I've done. I've also created colors-night.xml to avoid modifying colors that cannot be modified in styles.xml by coding and this works too: when dark mode is activated from device system, colors changes automatically.
At this point, I was wondering which is the best way to implements dark theme: creating 2 different themes, using colors-night (and drawable-night) or a combination of these 2 ways?
