I'm a little late to this, but that Python master/slave issue.. what the fuck is up with that?!
You say that you're offended by words.
=> Fuck off. If you want to serve social justice, help people in third-world countries that need your help.
=> Also, you do realize that the use of master/slave is just as much applicable to technology as client/server or host/guest are, right? It's a relationship between fucking machines or code blocks, not humans.
You say "why the outrage over this?"
=> Fuck off. Your SJW bullshit has no place in technology. It's a fucking word in fucking code!!!
You say that you're improving the Python project with this.
=> Fuck off. It breaks existing documentation and needlessly abstracts terminology that is used pretty much everywhere. What do you prefer, conciseness and a language to be easy to understand or for it to become all cushioned to soothe your frail feelings?
You know, there's something else that I wanted to talk about that's related to this. I have Asperger Syndrome, which on paper is a disability. In practice it's difficulty to socialize while having an above average IQ. That "disability" is what drove me into technology. When I see job listings actively prefer people with disabilities for social justice, you know what? That offends ME. Because I wouldn't want to be chosen as the best applicant just because it ticks social justice boxes. I want to be chosen as the best applicant because I outcompeted every other applicant with actual skill and fitness to do my job.
Also, when a company sells you a defective unit, would you be happy? Of course not. So why are you happy when they employ a defective? I am someone that would - on paper - be impeded by natural selection, because I am "handicapped". But I'm all for it. Humanity is what it is today - shit - partly because defectives have become widely accepted into society. Call me a bigot, but I'd rather be called that than to not raise concerns about this trend.
On the subject of handicaps, that's a term that's used in games, what for aiding the player that can't win against the regular opponent (which is usually just a fucking bot, wtf yo). I am handicapped, therefore YOU shouldn't use the word in a sense where it's totally reasonable to use it!! Says no one ever, me neither. Grow a fucking pair and realize that code isn't written with the intent to offend anyone. So why are you?29
Just an observation. Researched this a bit and found out that usually people only thank dfox when posting swag thanks posts.
Just wanted to demand some justice for mr trogus who is the designer of said swag and give due appreciation!
Lets @trogus some to deliver the appreciation.48
I am so fucking pissed off that I am shivering right now and can't even type.
The incompetent bastards in my team don't work and nobody bats an eye.
I spend five minutes on internet for some excel formula to enhance my productivity for the given tasks and everyone loses their mind.
This has been going around for months now. Maybe a year.
I tried to switch projects but still awaiting any opening in other teams.
I am functioning normally as a human but deep down I am completely shattered and broken with nothing to look forward in life.
I have failed a countless times.
I have learned from every failure.
I have implemented the learnings and failed better.
But never once, have I succeeded.
What pisses me off is the fact that jerks and assholes get everything without having to struggle or put in bare minimum efforts for survival.
It's like the richs are getting richer and poors are getting poorer.
Life is unfair and everything you do will go down the drain.
There is nothing called good karma. You only have bad karma to fuck you up all the time be it job, life, relationship, finances, the girl you like or the job you dream about, the car you want or the good deed that you did the other day, the vacation you plan for or the ice cream you want to at the end of day.
The wait will drain you out and then you die a painful death with nothing but regrets of not having lived the life you desire.
You have fretted all your life until now for smallest of the smallest things. But do you even remember something that made you happy or you felt satisfied?
Not sure why people are afraid of death when real pain is given by life?
JUST FUCK EVERYTHING BECAUSE LIFE IS DISPAIR AMD JUSTICE WILL NEVER BE SERVED.31
You what's been pissing me off this week. The press and social media coverage of this Google guy's gender memo.
Almost every outlet has him saying:
"Women are inferior coders because of their biology"
He ABSOLUTELY does not say this anywhere. He only states that basically less women are attracted to the industry. He doesn't comment at all on the quality of the Women who do go into tech.
It astonishes me the utter ignorance of the media and how they can just print these ignorant errors / lies.
I would wager that most if not all of them never even read his memo.
I am really fucked off by this social media keyboard warrior driven world we live in.
Apparently we value freedom of speech and freedom of expression above all else... UNLESS you say something that pisses off the social media justice warriors. In that case you will be publicly crucified and your life / career will be destroyed.
The annoying thing is in this particular case he didn't even say what they are saying he did.65
I don't like the use of `motherboard`.
We should change it to `parentboard` instead
That way its more inclusive32
*sets up BIND DNS server*
Domain name system..? Domain? As if it wants me to know my place on the internet?!! THAT'S SO OFFENSIVE!!! Change the name right now!!!
BIND? For real, a BDSM reference?! How sexualizing can you white cis males be?!! SO OFFENSIVE!!!
In the /etc/bind/named.conf.local I have to fill in a master type? MASTER??
🆂🅾 🅳🅰🅼🅽 🅾🅵🅵🅴🅽🆂🅸🅱🅴
Clearly technology is part of the patriarchy. I can't use DNS like this. Now where's my contributor's covenant?!23
So, there is this company (let's call it A) with an average idea, who got the android app and webservices from a company(B) . The service was awful but cheap. The owner of the A was a friend and gave my company the handover to manage the project. I actually ranted about that on wk11(The worst project). Now, The project was terrible. It took me months to give it any real structure, fix the services, make it compatible with iOS. Now, that majority of the work was done, suddenly we were too expensive and the work was being given to another company while much of our payment wasn't going to come(Friggin company politics). But, guess which company did the project now go to, it was 'B'.
After a couple of weeks I see, inline styles and js errors start emerging on the website.
Tell you what, if there's any justice in this world, he will one day come back to me and then I will respectfully tell him to fuck off!
Thank goodness there's devRant to just whine about this shit!2
A programmer once explained Nietzsche like this:
A long time ago, god created the world, but forgot to leave a developer documentation, thus the whole world was like legacy code...
And humans are like the end user of this world, and some among them spent time studying it, using the Moral API, hoping to get a result of "http 200 ok" from our world for the peace of mind. But the true operation of this world is still yet unknown...
As time passes, humans begin to find that in Moral API, good and evil are two base classes, and all the other moral properties (like ethic, justice and stuff) are just other classes based on those two classes through multiple inheritance.
One day, when programmer Nietzsche was observing the world's runtime behavior, he came up with a question:
"Did god really use good and evil as base classes? Could it be that they are actually derived classes?"
Most of the world is currently in the favor of mankind, and god must've wrote individual user cases for it's end users, he thought.
This made Nietzsche thinking: if end users are considered into two cases: the strong and the weak, how would the world be designed base on its user story?
Let's think about the strong, they can bully the weak as they please, and there's nothing the weak can do to stop them. In this case whether the Moral API exists or not doesn't fulfill the need of the strong.
But when it comes to the weak, Nietzsche thinks that because the weak cannot fight the strong, they need to belittle bullying and praise the strong for being nice. When the weak does this, it covers their powerless state to some extent, making them look somehow equal to the strong by being capable of commenting.
God might have coded the Moral API to fit the weak's requirement, also adding some public methods for the weak to comment on the strong. If the strong takes care of the weak, they call him nice and good, if the strong bullies people, they call him bad and evil.
That's when Nietzsche realized, that good and evil are both derived classes from the weak, and the base class should be the strong and the weak.
Then he started a series of studies about the Moral API, and got some thesis that persuaded lots of other end users...7
First they came for the atheists, and I didn't speak out - because I'm not an atheist
Then they came for the university teachers, and I didn't speak out - because I don't like universities
Then they came for the gamers, and I didn't speak out - because I don't play videogames
Then they came for Open Source and I didn't speak out - because "anyone can fork it"
Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me
I know I butchered the poem and I'm not comparing our social situation to the Holocaust (obviously), but I think it kind of illustrates that silence and gradually giving up ideals like justice and meritocracy can end up badly.
I also encourage you to read the actual poem it's pretty nice and food for thought.9
I have teens in my classroom who want elite hacker status but complain about doing programming exercises outside of class. >.<
I explain to them that learning to code takes a lot of practice and can be frustrating at first. Some still went to the dean complaining that my class is tough. I work at a private school where open communication is encouraged and social justice is a thing.
So, I'm over here like "How do I reach these kids?"
I'm optimistic and I try different approaches to teaching and learning. Some stuff has worked. A lot haven't.
I figure I'd ask here: Does anyone have a suggestion for any creative programming exercises/projects that are beginner-friendly, legal, and hacker-ish? (I teach intro to Java.)23
Keep your fucking petition and readme only shit to yourself or those fucking petition websites, that everybody uses to fucking wipe their ass with, you fucking limp dicked piece of skunk shit
I am already fucking blocking all sorts of media not to hear about all your whiney fucking crap, now I have to also fucking endure your brainless fucking justice warrior bullshit all over github, all over rss feeds, all over fucking everywhere
go fucking get smoked by a car or go fucking overdose, for all I care, just fucking smear yourself all over a fucking wall, as long as you keep your fucking worthless opinion away from me
the fucking worst of it all is that every fucking shithead out there puts it up your face, even if you blocked a million of those fucking clones, then somebody that you follow or a website you visit, will fucking shove that shit in your face, github is not for your fucking propaganda18
So strings in c++
Who the hell thought it was a good idea to name a fucking function strstr? What does this do? Takes a string and turns it into a string? Also strtok, strchr and the strn ones. What is the best way to shove a fucking keyboard through someone's ass and can I get it out through his mouth so I can shove it back in?13
And so net neutrality dies in the US... Mofo Ajit Pai why you do this to us? Literally 80 percent of people are against this repeal. So what the heck does he do? Repeal em of course. Hope he burns in hell forever. By that I mean I hope he has to have really slow internet forever. Now that would be justice.2
So, stranger things season 2, Bob is hacking a system with BASIC, writing entire lines with one keyboard press. Such skill. Much wow.
Have I missed something lately? xD10
Just had the best moment of my career today. Myself and two of my colleagues have been working on this system (firmware, hardware, web app etc) together and after months of hard work we finally saw it all in action.
My colleague turned on a device on the web site and it updated the db, turned on a light on his board and updated the devices state on the site (we use web sockets so it's real time).
I probably haven't did it justice here but it was flipping awesome!1
I can't do it justice by explaining how many times having the entire UI flow in one file has helped me.
Even for unexpected stuff, like an Android dev joining the team and needing to know the workflow of login / registration -> print screen the storyboard.
Manager asking for all the different possible paths through the app -> print screen the storyboard(s).
And then live rendering of custom components to be able to see them while playing with alignments.
While it has its bugs, and could have a few more features, it's too useful to ignore.
I know many iOS devs don't like it, and that's fine because I don't like them either and I don't hire them ;-)1
Fuck these SJWs, what kind of society respects and validates the opinion of irrational, psychologically mutilated humanoids. how long will people let them.
And I don't care if try to mute my freedom of speach, I will say what I wish, whether is sexist, racist, or offensive in general
But what happens when progress decays because of it?! Yesterday, this master/puppet situation, today Linus leaves Linux, what if tomorrow I am not allowed to eat chocolate because it's offensive for the people of Ivory coast who slave for it, what if tomorow I can't say that the sun is blue, because it'd be offensive to colorblind people? Until when is this society going to regress?
I hope live in a modern Babylon world which is to be teared down and burned to ashes, buried deep underground, down by fascist nationalist with no sense of moral freedom of speach and justice, because I feel like it would happen anyways.3
Holy shit seriously: Fuck MSOffice. Fuck it right in the eyehole.
As desktop software, it's just brutally terrible. On my work mac, it's just sweaty garbage. The latest insult is that on the most recent update, msword stole the default file association from preview.
Libre isn't terrific, but at least it's closed when you close it. For that reason alone, it's orgasmic by comparison.
Because there's justice in the world, my job is not a document-centered one, so I have no real use at all for an office app, let alone the specific macros and formulae that the msoffice versions of these apps provide, so I couldn't give less of a shit about losing functionality.
The headline and main thrust of this rant is "fuck msoffice so hard that it dies of eye-fucking."1
I think we all agree almost nobody likes ads. I've been working on a blog(custom made script because fuck wordpress) and I thought why not let the user choose if they want to see ads or not. Basically showing a pop-up or something saying the site needs ads for host, server and so on and let the user choose to enable them or not. What do you think?5
I've only been in college for 2.5 years, but oh the stories I could tell... I'll tell just one (for now), and this is not the worst of it.
Had this one instructor. She could teach and explain things well, but I'd be lying if I didn't say she was strict and often rude and flat-out a pain. Had her about every other semester.
SQL class: Using Oracle SQL and a cheap book with printing issues (my first copy was illegible), we learned about database design, management, and lots of things we can do in SQL. I learned a good bit, but then again, I was an online student and self-learned from the book.
It was near chapter 5. Literally every single student had trouble that week. I think the semester was starting to take its toll. Even I had trouble. It seems 0 of 25 students in class submitted their work by Sunday evening (this was before the COLLEGE changed the universal policy that assignments were due on Monday night (THANK GOODNESS)), so she extended the assignment to be Monday night and told the class (nevermind her assignments were dreadful and hated doing them. Fun fact: I probably still have them and can dig them up if wished).
Except she didn't tell her (multiple!) online students.
As I said, even I was having trouble that week. I ended up getting all my homework that week mixed up and thought I submitted my work. When I discovered I hadn't which was after the deadline, I asked her about it when I was on campus.
Instead of listening to my claim that she never emailed the online students, she protested claimed she did (I could have pulled up my email with proof, as could she, but she never did), said it was my fault for not submitting my work (true) and not checking that it was extended (???), that I should have be grateful she even extended it (um), she was not accepting any late work, and shrugged off everything I said.
I was likely one of (if not the) best students. To this day, that is the only assignment I've gotten a zero on. I still passed with an A, but I did my best to try to find classes without her from then on.
Up next (when I find time to type it): My first encounter with this instructor (which happened before this story) which created some sweet justice two years later.
Am i the only person complaining about Android being a fucking irritating load of bloatware, which you cant escape from. I just cant understand how we are being Okay with such a huge bloated OS which doesnt do any justice to the hardware. Views ?15
A follow up about Mozilla IRL spotify radio.
Very interesting talk relates to internet and privacy in gerenal. (Not about programming btw)

Walking home from work gracefully,
minding my own business.
Swinging my umbrella gracefully,
With a slight crack of a grin on my face.
THEN THIS DUDE TRIES TO TAKE MY PHONE OUT OF MY POCKET! Non-gracefully!
Fuck poetic Justice, he ruined my happy thoughts,
I was planning an authentication decorator for a project am in love with
And the code was beautiful.
The phone fell on a wet footpath in the struggle,
Now my umbrella has mud on it!
"Programming is a craft. At its simplest, it comes down to getting a
computer to do what you want it to do (or what your user wants it to do). As a programmer, you are part listener, part advisor, part interpreter, and part dictator. You try to capture elusive requirements and find a way of expressing them so that a mere machine can do them justice. You try to document your work so that others can understand it, and you try to
engineer your work so that others can build on it. What's more, you try to do all this against the relentless ticking of the project clock. You work small miracles every day.
It's a difficult job. "
- The pragmatic programmer
When you work for a dev shop and one of the clients buys you out of your non compete to hire you directly. Now I'm my old bosses boss :)1
I'm helping my teammates with the problems that they face in debugging an issue or fixing a Dev environment.
Sometimes ppl go too flexible and ask for my Dev VM. The help I have to offer is tell them cause of an issue and tell them the fix that they have to give. What the fu*k they do? What did they gain as experience all these years.
Ppl don't know how to make draft commits. They can't fix but failures. They don't know anything.
They just sit at office and age as it is their only job.
Seniors take so much salary. Why don't they feel bad that they are not doing justice to their work.
I really like listening to rap, especially older tracks. I started writing some verses a few months ago, nothing mind blowing but still decent. At least I think it's decent.
Is there anyone wanting to rap-battle against me? The rules are easy:insult each others as much as we can. We can use each others avatars, usernames, rants or comments. After we both do that, someone else decides the winner and can battle against one of us or somebody else.
I just responded positively to a request by my high school coordinator to add an Advanced Placement Computer Science online course option as a choice for all high schoolers.
It's for Java.
Have I commited a crime?
Have I done justice?
Help me, for I don't know anymore.2
I'm currently having a problems sleeping my inner philosopher just keeps thinking about various things. I wanna try to write some of them down as an simply to see what will happen.
I'll write my opinion down as honest as possible so feel free to disagree, but point out what I should rethink, if you want me to consider it.
To me respect has to be earned. I think especially on the internet many people try to skip this crucial step when they try to get respect. Most often when they want an opinion or their ideals to be respected. Most of the time it doesn't even feel like they want to be respected, but rather accepted.
There's nothing wrong with accepted in my opinion, but there are several approaches to get to this point and I despise some of them.
Earning acceptance by earning respect is one of the right ways to do it. Working hard towards your goals, showing your individual strength, standing behind your ideals. These are things I can respect.
I should also mention that these Ideals should be concrete, based on rational thought and a general good will or you will just twist my words to say that I support e.g. IS, Stalin's politics ect.
On a side node, I think it'd be wrong to disrespect everything Stalin did, since, from an economical point of view, he pushed Russia forward by quite a bit.
Then on the other side I see crybabies. People who want to be accepted, without putting effort in their ideals. Most of the time not even aiming for acceptance through respect, but through pity. Honestly, that's all they're going to get from me.
Pity, for their petty ideals.
Basically all I ever see these people doing is attention whoring and practicing multiple deadly sins at once.
Wrath, jealousy, sloth, pride, greed and optionally also gluttony.
Lust is rather a separate package. When I think about it, I link it mostly to horny teens and "send bob and vegane" type of stuff.
Gluttony being powered by sloth or vice versa, enhancing it.
The clear image I have in mind, while I write about this packages of deadly sins however, is that of a jealous person, complaining / getting angry about something they could change change themselves, but want them to be changed for them. Mostly through social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and whatever the fuck Tumblr is supposed to be.
"I wanna be rich, why is <person> richt but I'm not? This world is so unfair 😡". Have you tried working towards becoming rich?
"I don't don't feel pretty. Accept me". Accept yourself. Done.
"I don't like <person or organization>'s doing". If that's the whole message, all you probably did so far is complaining or crying. Sweet tears.
Stuff like that can happen to any person, just like any person makes mistakes.
Mistakes are made to learn from them. If you realize realize and accept your mistakes others may do so as well and forgive you.
But we are he towards this idiotic trend where people just can swallow their pride even for microscopic things. They instead push their pride to higher levels of ignorance, blaming other people, l(ying)mfao, creating black holes of density in the process. Makes me wonder whether their real motive is an inside bet on who can get the most people to kill them selves by face palming.
Most of my life I have been fairly protected against these people, besides some spikes of incompetence, but recently the have invaded 2 areas in my world that make the world somewhat less of a pain. Programming and the internet culture.
Yes, I'm talking about that master / slave BS renaming and article 11 and 13.
The remaking itself isn't really the problem, but rather the context. This was basically a show of power for the self proclaimed "social justice warriors" or SJW for short.
The fact that this madness has spread. That's what worries me. To me it feels like the first zombie has spawned.
Then we have this corrupted piece of incompetent shit, called Axel Voss, and other old farts.
They live in a galaxy far away from reality, somewhere in the European Parlament, making laws they don't know shit about, regulating things they know shit about.
All in the name of the people of the EU of course. And by people we obviously talk about the money.
I can honestly not think of another reason, after reading the replies Voss and his party gave on Twitter regarding the shit they pulled off.
Well, at least none that doesn't involve some firm of brain death.
For now I'll show them as much as possible how much I despise / reject them. Currently playing with the thought of some kind (social media?) website were posts from other sites or actions in general can be rated only with "Fuck you"s.
Given these articles, I should not have them hosted in an European country though 😅.
Almost hitting that 5k character limit 😰2
Today's instalment in unsigned rage: a next-power-of-2 function that loops forever on half the domain of unsigned.
When I finally snap, and am brought to justice after a coding-induced rampage, they will ask me why: why did I kill all those programmers? And all I will say, is modulo two to the k.
My first CS teacher had a really thick accent and it took us 4 months to understand what an "reg-ister" was (obviously typing doesn't do it justice, let's say normally you would say "regi-ster") The only way we figured out what he was saying was one day he said "Let's take reg-ister" and then took role call.
Help a future Linux convert out!
So far over the past year I've gone through Mint, Fedora, Ubuntu and REHL and all have had their issues or just didn't agree with me. Currently I've been using OpenSuSE Leap I haven't had much an issue with... But I'm looking to try out Arch, though I'm not a fan of the whole CLI install. Doing some more research I saw Antergos which is just Arch but more n00b friendly and more elegant to me. Has anyone had experience with Antergos? Is it as it seems? Any pros and cons with Arch Linux based things? Running it in a VM first doesn't do it justice for me.5
When you want to start coding an api endpoint but realise you already did that yesterday. Its like a surprise for me from myself lol
What are the requisites to become a software architect??
Does experience really matters or anyone who is good in one full tech stack and more keen in learning new can do justice to the role??
