Next time I see a constructor with 22 parameters. I'm gonna report whoever wrote that to the police41
Met a guy in the gym, he asked me to make him an online shop for supplements.
I quickly made a reactive, angular based shop with an admin page.
He paid, I put my name as the creator, it was all good...
...then he removed all legal products and added tons of anabolic steroids for horses in little jars (yes, he even added pro level photos).
I received a call from the police and had to prove that I don't manage his content.17
I once brought my Kali Linux laptop to school. (Because normal had dead battery, waiting for shipping)
MFW someone from the IT department is called in to fix teachers projector and he sees I still have the default dragon wallpaper on it.
MFW when recognises it it's Kali.
MFW he calls the police and my laptop gets taken away because 'its dangerous' and I get questioned in school.
The police came back a week later to check my laptop again. 'uhh we gotta check the logs'.
IF I WANTED IT TO BE DANGEROUS YOU'D BE FIXING A LOT MORE THAN JUST THE FUCKING PROJECTOR!
Also, wuddup devrant!14
My mom walks in and asks what am I doing and I said hacking government files and she called the police thanks mom😑15
Hacker uses windows media player to hack into police database....
//Happens only in Indian movies
PS : don't try it at home.22
Shit... I just got my phone stolen. Realized it 40 seconds post factum [left it at the shop counter and someone took it].
20 minutes later called the police [cuz I had to get home and use wife's phone].
5 min later poluce arrived
10 min later they got all they could from shop's security officer.
Police officer asks me to login my samsung acc on his phone. 2 minutes later we are on the way to the exact location my phone is at.
15 minutes later officer hands me my samsung 😁
got my phone back in less than an hour after theft.
maybe... Ummm... Maybe all this tracking thing is not that bad...?16

Drug dealer : yo, you code right?
Me: yeah, why
Drug dealer: can you hack into the police station.. You know, see if they are checking me out.. If they know I'm dealing.. I'll just move
(I've never hacked but I know i could learn if I have to)
Me:... That's actually brilliant
I love in a small town at the moment.. I bet the police security is a joke
Kinda high risk though35
Had an interest in IT security some time ago, so I downloaded some tools to experiment a little and research to get some first hand experience since a lot of the course material we have at work is too vague....
Guess who got a visit from the police 👮
Rant after a long time...
A week or two ago, I posted how my ISP is fucking up the net neutrality law by fast laning Google/Facebook while rest of the internet struggles for me.
I did the speed test multiple times and confronted them. This time I was really pissed and the support guy tried to fool me by saying that there's some download going on which is affecting the speed. I said that should not occur at all no matter the download. And there was no download going on in background.
He asked to share my screen via anydesk and I did. We tested the speed.
Now the son of a bitch says that my laptop is crappy and I need to get a new laptop in order to use their service or else I will struggle with speed.
I finally lost my patience. I was literally shivering and ripped his ass off for fooling me.
Motherfucker did not stop there. He now asks me how many devices are connected to the router, and I say 4.
He blames the router for not being able to bear the load.
I told him that if he doesn't stop fooling me I would literally grab his throat and punch the shit out of him.
To which he says, he will send an 'engineer' too check the issue as it is probably with local hardware and nothing from their end.
The so called stupid engineer arrives. Grabs the lan cable, clips off the connector, fits in a new one and asks me to test it.
DO I FUCKING LOOK LIKE A DICK SUCKING DONKEY?
HOW THE FUCK IS THAT GOING TO SOLVE THE SPEED ISSUE WHICH IS EVIDENTLY FROM THEIR END?
Anyways, he has done it multiple times and I know their trick. They throttle the speed for an hour or two for customer to calm down.
Shit works but this time I am gonna chop his dick off for sure.
Internet starts lagging again. I call him up and experiment in front of him that Facebook clearly works faster than Reddit.
I show this to his engineer as well. We speed test and the results fail.
I am not even getting the speed I paid for, let alone using Google/Facebook on fast lane.
I ask him the reason and why they are doing this. This is fraud and clearly illegal.
I said, that I will register a police complaint to which he says they have 'special certificate' and are allowed to do this.
I THINK THESE ASSHOLES CONSIDER THEIR CUSTOMERS AS MINDLESS PIGS.
I ask him to produce the certificate to which he says that he has the privacy right to not show it.
FUCK YOU MOTHERFUCKER.
I posted this on Reddit seeking help.
I registered a consumer forum complaint.
I tweeted the net neutrality organisation of India seeking help.
I contacted IT ministry of India seeking help.
Looking forward to sending them a written legal notice and contacting few more authorities to teach this bastard some lesson.
If any of you can help in anyway to fuck this assholes, do let me know.
Let's DDoS them, if that's possible. 🤣🤣74

Just saved a life. I was just walking with the dog (it's 3am here) and there was a bleeding drunk on the street - completely unconscious. Must have fallen on his head. Got the police. The paramedics told me a few minutes ago that the guy had a skull fracture. A few hours later it would probably have been too late for him.5
The craziest shit in my life just happened.
I left my laptop(basically my whole life) and my handbag at my dinner table and went to the the toilet for 4 minutes. I live in a ground-house in a rural area, and the front door wasn't locked.
After I exited the bathroom I noticed eevrything was gone. My laptop, my bags, my wallet. Everything. I panicked.
I quickly informed the local security authority while canceling my credit card and resetting all of my credentials, they with the help of the police they tracked the theives in 10 minutes in a neighboring town, with what it seems all of my stuff intact, which I am supposed to get tommorow.
This is both insane and a miracle. I am speechless and thankful to G-d. This is divine providence. I can't explain it in any other explanation
Watch over your stuff like your life depends on them. Don't ever leave your laptop even for a few minutes.9

Well f### you, thanks for telling my password which is obviously fake. I have sent your details to the local police department, shall rest in peace. Don't earn money by this kind of action. STUPID!19
So a friend of mine ran a Tor Exit node at home for a few month.
He upgraded to gigabit so he was able to push 950Mbit/s quite nicely. He has the oldest Tor Relay (11 years) and was the 2nd fastest exit node.
But he was sadly forced to remove the exit policy, because the police and some other government agencies knocked on his door today.37
Just went to the new cafe next to me (all over the top fancy as usual around here), thought after a long time I could and should enjoy a nice drink, snack and a great view while coding.
Got two babies screaming out their internals right when I've paid and sat down, then an old guy started asking me to leave multiple times, threatening to call the police and trying to drag me off my chair, because I "shouldn't be breaking other peoples computers" - most likely because I was pulling+compiling evince via yay and he caught a glimpse of it when I checked if it finished or not.
One of the employees saw that happening and kicked the old guy out, then gave me a fresh donut as a "sorry", was for sure the best donut I've ate, not because of the taste, but because I saw the old guy then hovering across the street and occasionally giving me a look, as if he's waiting for the FBI to finally show up and he could tell where I escaped to.
tbh when the employee was approaching, I've seen this turn into a completely different rant, positively surprised there's still some sane people out there.29
Let's get something straight people, the trend to change terms in programming languages for PC approved ones is NOT for "making the workplace a better place".
If you are one of those who say "oh it's just terms, if it makes them feel better why not?", "I don't care so should everybody else", "the outrage proves we need to change the terms!".
No sir, first of all, since when has programming been about ditching standards to make people "feeel" better? Since when has engineering been about that?! We are engineers, we don't change shit and waste effort trying to fix things that are working.
Second, this word cleansing does NOT come from a well intentioned one, it's not about making the workplace a better place, it's not about minorities, it's about sanitizing language from an ideological and political standpoint to please an agenda pushing minority who doesn't give a shit about any real social issues.
They have done it to movies, videogames, news, political speech, magazines, books and now programming. It doesn't stop and they will never be satisfied, it's not about changing the terms, no one gives a shit about the terms, it's about pandering to ideological crybabies who want to control what you say because it "offends" them or some supposedly oppressed group from which we just hear anecdotal evidence.
Personally I wouldn't give a shit if it was for technical reasons, but it's not and I've seen what this shit does to communities I love and I won't stand it happening to the dev community just because some weak ass, no balls coders decided to pander to the retards on the far left to score virtue points instead of standing their ground.
Are you worried about oppressed groups? Donate money to third world children, speak out about women in Siria, travel to actual shitty 3rd world countries so you realize changing words on a GitHub repo on your expensive ass MacBook, sipping your soy based coffee on an office with air conditioning is not making the world a better place you delusional prick.
You want to ignore the facts be my guest, be willfully ignorant, but I will not police myself and my ideas for your ideological beliefs, not in gaming, not here. Fuck off.33
I hope you will forgive me for a third hand story, but I'm one of those evil developers, not a support per se. But I thought you'd enjoy this story anyway. So this happened to a colleague of a colleague:
$Hero - our hero. $Cop - A representative of our hard worked law enforcement agency.
So $Hero is happily speeding along in his car, running a few yellow lights a bit late, etc. Finally, the law catches up to him and pulls him over. Here's how the conversation went:
$Cop: Can I see your driving license, please?
$Hero (with smug grin): Certainly. Here it is, officer.
$Cop takes license back to motorcycle and speaks into radio.
$Hero: It's not going to help you any, though.
$Cop (with no reaction): What do you mean?
$Hero (with wider grin): The server you have to check it against is down.
$Cop (still no reaction): And why do you say that?
$Hero: Because I'm the guy they called to get on site and get it up again.
Our hero did not get a fine this time. Instead he got a police escort to his workplace.

I feel darn good today! I caught some A-holes cheating the system on Stack Overflow.
So basically a question was asked with no code examples present and not a single reference to any framework being used.
I'm commenting something like 'Show us your code so we can have a look'.
After 2 minutes, out of the blue, an answer appears. AND WOW! This guy had a Magical 8 Ball™!
He could predict the framework AND had a very specific fix. Just a one-liner! Go figure!
So I'm like thinking.. What the fuck just happened? Did I miss something? «Going over the question two more times»
All of the sudden, up-votes start popping up all over the place. The question was marked 3 times, the answer was marked an up-voted multiple times, and THEN it hit me (I'm kind of slow).
I checked both user profiles and instead of the usual 'air of mystery', these guys were actually dumb enough to include their company name.
AssertEquals == true.
So in the comment section, I raise my concerns on the legitimacy of the question as clearly this was 'telephoned' as we say it in Dutch, meaning as much as 'rehearsed' in this context.
But as if that was not enough, this another guy comes in and COPY/PASTED(!) the answer of guy #1. Again. Up-votes. EVERYWhere.
So I start going over some of the questions and answers of The Three Musketeers or TTM, as I'll refer them as of now.
TTM had posted over 15 questions combined, mostly crap and incomplete no-code questions. And they had answered most of their own questions.
Sometimes another guy's answer was accepted with zero up-votes as a smoke screen while the real winner was one of their own.
I marked ALL of these questions for moderation, left for lunch, and came back to see how far my blast radius reached.
Turns out, pretty damn far! Although their accounts have not been deleted, TTM have lost most of their reputation points.
They will remain on my watchlist for a couple of months. I know that is quite childish of me, but I just call it my 'guilty pleasure'! ;D
And besides, what else is there to do, instead of browsing DevRant?13
Ian Murdock, Debian creator, dead in shady circumstances this day, three years ago.
A days before we’ve seen some very strange tweets by him about the police violence, and then his Twitter was immediately gone. But internet remembers everything.
Good night sweet prince.
TL;DR: German politicians want to make TOR illegal.
Fuck it. I’m done. EU sucks. Germany sucks. It’s time to get outta here.
Context: German politicians explained during the European police congress that they want to make TOR illegal in Germany. According to them, whoever uses TOR has malevolent intentions and the darknet has no use in a democratic system.
A different politician literally praised China for ignoring the right to privacy while analyzing their citizens. What is wrong in these people’s heads? Apparently they don’t understand that TOR != darknet, so in order to get rid of illegal activity on the darknet, they want make the entire service illegal altogether. Idiots.
Now, this is far from reality yet, they just mentioned this during a speech, but it is indeed alarming.

Riddle of the day:
A husband kills his wife in her car at beach.
He left no fingerprints or DNA at the place.
After few hours police is called and they have no suspect's.
They call the husband and tell him to arrive at the crime scene.
Immediately after husband came at the crime scene police arrested him.
How did the police know he was the killer ?10
so here's a little story:
yesterday i decided to buy a shiny new gtx 1070 since my pc is getting very old, i come back from the store and i realize that my case is slightly too small to fit the card.
'No bg deal' i think to myself, i run out to buy a saw and after some work i made some space to fit the card in by sawing off some hard drive bays i was not using. I plug in the card, i wire up the pc, and it does not boot: after some asking around (i have never really built a pc before), i relaize i need more power to the card and wire a second PCIE connector. low and behold, i power of the pc and it works! Once logged into windows tho, i realize none of my HHDs are detected...
To cut a long story short, i **did not think to unplug the hard drives before i started sawing off bits of the case and the vibrations killed both of them!** i lost ~1TB of data in the process: a lot of it was games and programs, but i have yet to tally up the damage.
I am completely bamboozled by what the fuck just happened, i think i'll go hand myself in to the nearest police station for crimes against technology... or maybe a mental clinic would be best?...
PS: my system drive was spared since its an SSD, but i may as well re-install windows at this point since i lost 90% of my software14
I just travelled roughly 10 years back in time. How? By crossing the border from the Netherlands to Germany. My mobile connection jumped from constant 4G to H / Edge / no connection at all, The wifi, where present is slow af. And I can't pay by card anymore as I'm used to. And most of all: The loading speed of DevRant is so slow with this data connection that I wanna rant about it itself, but I can't, since I don't have any goddamn connection >_<49
I’ve never actually had a colleague quit while I was there, buuuut, I did have a colleague disappear, here is that story:
I get hired by this colleague, seems like a nice, perfectly reasonable guy.
I’m supposed to be mentored in the codebase by him after I start.
Literally the day or day after I start, he gets a tap on the shoulder from someone in HR while he’s on the phone. He says he can’t come because he’s on the phone.
The HR woman insists, tells him to leave *everything* and he never returns.
Turns out the police were downstairs to arrest him.
He got caught up in Operation Yewtree which for those that don’t know, was the UK’s sting op on historic pedophilia cases.
MFW my manager gets arrested and the senior dev is too busy to mentor me, so I basically have to sink or swim 🤣4

In an alternate universe, devs live in their own country.
They make their own rules and dictate how much they are paid. They maintain the entire world’s infrastructure.
They don’t go to work, since their entire country is the workplace and guess what? Cold beers are free(a thank you from the beer company guys for coming up with all their inventory management systems)
Pizza is free too.
There is no government (laws are passed depending on upvotes on devRant )
No racism, sexism or any other ism ending words . Devs just code.
Oh, and the state police, preferably known as keyboard warriors patrol the streets and offenders are punished by limited internet speeds. 😂. It is said some actually commit suicide because of this unbearable punishment.
Fuck yeah they have coffee farms. That’s the only thing they don’t accept as *gratitude from other nations because those sons of bitches might fuck that up too.
And everyone drives teslas 😂
Okay I have to get back to work now. That multi universe travel machine won’t buy itself.15
A co-worker at the city-government just chose the wrong mailing list and send an e-mail to EVERY SINGLE emlpoyee (about 20'000 people, including our police-department, hospitals, councils etc.).
Within A MINUTE hundrets of people responded to the mail by using the "reply all" button, pointing out that this mail obviously wasn't meant for them.
After another minute the same douchebags sent another mail (of course using the "reply all" button AGAIN), asking to be removed from the mailing list and stop spamming them.
Even two hours after blocking the mailing list immediately, our mail servers still are processing all those damn mails.
RIP exchange servers

Probably the most rage inducing data loss story...
When it comes to my cellphone I'm a data hoarder, I store each relevant meme, conversation, video, contact, nudes, etc. Had to replace my phone? Easy, change the SD.
I did this for about 4 years, had over 11GB of almost everything and anything in a 36GB SD, one afternoon my buddies and I went to a small tech convention and on our way to my car we got mugged by 5 armed men.
They took my brand new phone along with my wallet and all my cash, luckily I had GPS tracking enabled and we were able to pinpoint the exact location of my phone within 30min.
So far so good...
We called the cops and went with them, we found the car with illegal plates and weapons inside (knives, a bat, gun) so I tell the robbers were in there inside a closed cyber cafe and showed him the point on the map confirming this.
Cop: oh we can't do that we don't have an order...
Me: are you kidding me, here's the GPS, there's the car, there's the weapons, doesnt that count as at least probable cause or some shit?
Cop: we don't have that in this country, you can file a report and after 3 business days we can come here to inquire.
Me: (fucking lost it) do you fucking think they'll be here in 3 days?! I'll give you 500 bucks if you go bust their ass now.
Cop: (thinks about it) but what if they are armed? [4 patrols, 8 cops, 4 rifles and at least 6 guns plus vests] Maybe if you had contacts within the bureau we could have an order now...
I lost a lot that day, including respect to this fucked up system.
t(ಠ益ಠt) FUCK THE POLICE go eat a dick.12
Very long story ahead!
Yesterday in the evening a friend of mine (calling him F from now on) became the target of something new to me...
Apparently one can fake his phone number through some fishy ways and call people with that number. Someone (we think we might know who it was, the why is at the end) did this yesterday to F.
Here's the whole story:
We were just talking together on a TeamSpeak Server (a program to talk to others on the internet) when suddenly another friend said: "F, why did you just call me three times in a row?" That was the first thing that was a bit suspicious. After that, F got calls from random numbers (even Afghanistan, we are German), and they said something like "Have fun with the police coming to your house". Then there was silence. 10 minutes later his phone rang and there were a ton of pizza delivery services in his town that apparently got pizza orders from him. Then there was silence, again. Suddenly someone with a hidden number called him, a woman's voice said they were the police and if F doesn't stop calling the police there will be consequences. F then told her what was going on but I think she didn't really care. She then wanted to know where F lives, but I told him not to say that, because if it is the police they can find it out by themself and if it's not, they don't need to know that.
Now, a short break: There is some fake information going around about where F lives. I can't remember when we found out but the attacker thought he would actually live there. No idea what happened at that location...
Now back to the story:
Time went by, nothing really happened. Suddenly F shouted: "There are blue lights outside! The police is here!" He muted his microphone and (the following is what he told us what happened) went down to the door (remember, he is 16) and there were two police men. They were asking about why he called the police. F explained what we knew until then, about number spoofing and stuff... They sent a more technical person to him, he understood what F was trying to explain. The police men drove away and he came back to tell us what happened. (Now we get back to what I heared myself.) The mom came in, screamed something that I couldn't understand, and F went offline. We searched who the attacker could have been. And we are pretty sure we found him. That guy connected to our Minecraft server (that's where I know F from) with his real IP, and his main account, which made it easy to search. He also got a static IP which means it doesn't change. We also got some information that in the recent days this guy was talking about VoIP spoofing and such stuff. Another friend of mine, a bit older, found some proofs and I think he will go to the police.
That's it. Thanks for reading.8
Lost two machines with 10years+ of my work and files to the police after a raid some years ago...
They were used in a "crime" cuz I was chatting with my hemp supplier on one of the machines...no chance to get them back...
Oh man, I miss my data...18
!warning could be longer.
I must something let go:
Im now 24 ,my life was not easy .
I got bullied all the time in school from 1 to 10 degree. I had a dream since i was 6:"no i dont wanna be a police man, fire fighter, astronaut....i want to be a programmer "..
My father did me to make an apprenticeship with Volkswagen after i finished my "middle school" (10th class);
2 years of mobbing and be sad i leaved that motherfucking "-aship"
After a while my father again wanted to ,i must to an "-aship" .yeah hes been right, but i dont want to do and work like you do!!!.. then again after "fighting" my dad (parents), i was reliant to social help for a year..
(U must know,my dream was always in my mind)
I met a girl in a different federal state in germany and moved up to her.
I worked as a daywage man to get us money.
1 year was over and then i found out the apprenticeship as web and mobile developer (computer scientist) . I applied for this an got a place.
Now my fucking dream comes true in a few months!
Just wanna say that you never should give up your interests or dreams, doesnt matter how old you are!!!!
My journey begins 2017 and yours?:))))6
This happened a while back but thought it would be an interesting story.
So there is this guy, I'll call him Jack. Jack was a weirdo. He just graduated high school but thought of himself as very hot in terms of dev skills. He boasted lots of good programs, that are the best in industry, except they don't work (like the best proven file compressor, that just can't decompress anything because of some "bugs"). He also entered language holy wars quite actively, saying that Delphi is the best platform ever.
Aaanyway, a couple of years pass. Jack is now a student. Jack tries to make some money, so he talks to some guy, that offers him a "job" at the tax office, where he has to modernize the data infrastructure of the tax authorities. If you think this sounds very wrong, then you're 100% correct. But it gets better. After 2 months of work, the guy manages to do that. It's a simple CRUD application after all.
So everything works, but the guy who gave him this job refused to pay. He stalled and then just stopped answering the phone. Jack is now furious. So what he does, is publish the databases online, so everyone could see the income of every citizen. Authorities are in panic. They send the police to his door. They seize his computer and lock him up for a few days.
To sum it all up: Jack took up a job, without any contract, without any NDA, which is completely illegal in of itself, but he did that with the tax authority. And delivered the product before getting paid. And when he understood that he was owned, he published all online. He got bit back. The guy who gave him this job had no consequences for illegally hiring someone and not paying for their work.
Lesson: Don't be Jack11
This isn't really a Dev related rant, more of a life rant. Things have been going pretty badly for me lately, so I apologize if this comes across as complaining or whining.
This morning, I got in a car accident that totaled my car. It was a 1996 Chevy Camaro that I had been fixing up and restoring over the last few years and I had it running pretty well. The accident was my fault and I told the police as much, because I value honesty over screwing over others for my own benefit. Money has been very tight lately because my wife was out of work for the last bit of her pregnancy, so we ended up having to move to a 1 bedroom apartment that I could afford rent on my own. She also has a son who is now 13, so space is pretty tight. Money got even tighter once we had the baby. She's 10 weeks old now.
I've barely made the $1500/month rent on my own here, usually paying 1-2 days late because we're living paycheck to paycheck. Our lease is up at the end of July and they won't let us renew because of this.
The bad part is that I was driving a car that had expired registration because I couldn't fix it to pass the state smog test and my license expired two weeks ago. I haven't been able to afford insurance, so every time I drove, it was a gamble.
I'm now going to have to pay these damages out of pocket for the other car.
We're now having to move into my mother in law's house for about 4 months so we can get out of this financial hole we've gotten into.
I feel like I've failed as a father and a husband.12
So I host a few mining pools and some of the stories we hear from miners can be quite interesting. One of our miners recently had his front door busted off the hinges and a drug bust team go into his house and turn the house upside down. How did they determine that he was a threat for growing illegal drugs? Well he had a high power bill because of the miners and he grows flowers and food inside of his house and that was enough for THE NYPD to get a warrant.
Now he is responsible for cleaning up the mess the police made. What scares me the most is that they are tracking soil you buy online along with high power bills. What the hell USA im a proud Canadian9
Problem 1: that's literally all of steam
Problem 2: they don't police it now
Problem 3: just... All of this29
This is already from a few days ago but I had to process the whole thing myself first.
It was a normal day at work nothing special. Customers came in got their repaired PC's/Laptops and brought some new work in. So I went through some and then I got to the case that is the most well unbelievable and shocking I had in the only 2 years doing this. At first it was a normal HDD bad sector thing and I started copying the old HDD to a new one.
//NOTE: the program we use shows every file it's copying and the sectors it spans //
Suddenly I saw a weird thing happening where it started copying tons of files from a folder called "mature/kids" over to the new HDD.
I noted the path and after it finished we returned the laptop to the customer and he luckily left his old HDD with us. So my boss and I we did some investigation and we'll turns out the dude has a whole library of childpornography.
tl;dr check what you copied and report such cases to the police.
Don't do such stupid shit and stay legal guys.
Which you all a great day/night/morning/evening/whatever
//EDIT: I ofc won't post pictures cause of obvious reasons3
So I’m having an argument with my gf.
Is it “Why is 6 afraid of 7?” or “Why is 10 afraid of 7?”
I fucking said that 6 has not seen the action of 7 eating 9. But 10 has, therefore he is scared.
If we were to iterate from 0 to 10, we would see that 6 hasn’t seen shit.
Let’s print out each number if we iterate through and find a consecutive 7, 8 and 9 then print out “Oh shit 7 ate 9.”
6 // Hey honey I don’t see anything here??
Oh shit 7 ate 9
10 // Someone call the fucking police
If you're a client and abuse the info given to you by any of the platforms to come visit me, I won't hestitate to call the police again, you fucking lunatic.
In what fucking mind does that even make sense, so damn lucky I wasn't actually here and just saw it on the CCTV, fucking trespassing piece of shit.
Waiting for the police to report back, so I can use any possible opportunity to reflect it in his public record, fucking cunt.
I had some fun once with "inspect element" while I were at my ex-girlfriends house. She asked me what I was doing and I told her about changing websites locally. I wanted to show her an example and so I went onto her school's website and played around a bit. I than changed the latest "News" post to a post about a food fight event organized by her school. She than took a photo from that post and send it into her schools WhatsApp group. They all went crazy how the school could do something like this and we had a good giggle. After a few minutes she told them that it was a fake and that they should stop believing everything that someone posts on WhatsApp. (Around this time a post was going around that was used to spread Missinformationen about the Berlin police)6
"A Single Line of Computer Code Put Thousands of Innocent Turks in Jail"
I'll leave the title as it was, but people were hunted down just for having been once logged by a tracking pixel inside a messaging app.
Simply terrifying, I hold that off for a while, since it sounded like the usual fakes, but it seems its not, as more and more keep confirming it.
"The government eventually exonerated 11,480 of the wrongly accused, but some had already spent months in prison, and reportedly some even committed suicide."
"Elif finished dressing her youngest and watched police search her family's home before they took her into custody — for using a messaging app the government deems seditious.
She knew the arrest was coming. She'd already lost her job, because traces of the app known as Bylock were found on her phone"
"The regime relies on logs from the country's ISPs to identify users of Bylock, fingerprinting them on the basis of their communications with Bylock's servers. These communications can be triggered without using Bylock, though: Bylock's tracking pixel was used for analytics for pop-up ads and in at least eight apps."
I went on vacation in Norway. And it's mandatory to visit viking ship museum if you are in Oslo. At the of the exhibition I came to souvenir shop. AND WHAT I SAW WAS MAGNIFICENT!
There was whole army of ruber duck vikings.
I thought of buying one but I didn't have a heart to replace my police officer McDucky.1
One of our existing clients who used to pay for two of our products but now only pays for one just called us. The one he canceled is a loss prevention product that tracks internal theft in stores. He canceled it because he didn't feel it was worth it.
Now, he's calling us from a police station because he's trying to press charges against one of his managers because they were presumably stealing from him.
"Hey I need to know how many times this person stole from me over the last few months and I need to know it now because I'm at the police station."
With just a few clicks that would be an easy figure to retrieve for him had he not canceled our product.
My stance is he can get lost. I don't even think he sees the irony of canceling because "it isn't worth it" and then "asap" needing the data that the "worthless" product provides. Of course, he wants it without reactivating the subscription.
Okay, That right there is pathetic https://thehackernews.com/2019/02/... .
First of all telekom was not able to assure their clients' safety so that some Joe would not access them.
Second of all after a friendly warning and pointing a finger to the exact problem telekom booted the guy out.
Thirdly telekom took a defensive position claiming "naah, we're all good, we don't need security. We'll just report any breaches to police hence no data will be leaked not altered" which I can't decide whether is moronic or idiotic.
Come on boys and girls... If some chap offers a friendly hand by pointing where you've made a mistake - fix the mistake, Not the boy. And for fucks sake, say THANK YOU to the good lad. He could use his findings for his own benefit, to destroy your service or even worse -- sell that knowledge on black market where fuck knows what these twisted minds could have done with it. Instead he came to your door saying "Hey folks, I think you could do better here and there. I am your customes and I'd love you to fix those bugzies, 'ciz I'd like to feel my data is safe with you".
How on earth could corporations be that shortsighted... Behaviour like this is an immediate red flag for me, shouting out loud "we are not safe, do not have any business with us unless you want your data to be leaked or secretly altered".
Yeah, I know, computer misuse act, etc. But there are people who do not give a tiny rat's ass about rules and laws and will find a way to do what they do without a trace back to them. Bad boys with bad intentions and black hoodies behind TOR will not be punished. The good guys, on the other hand, will.
Whre's the fucking logic in that...
P.S. It made me think... why wouldn't they want any security vulns reported to them? Why would they prefer to keep it unsafe? Is it intentional? For some special "clients"? Gosh that stinks6

Tl;Dr : I'm pissing the right people off and my God I like it
That's what I've known and have confirmed doing my current side project with my gf, we are working on a ratemyprofessors clone with extra spicy features, one in particular is so spicy some teachers will be put in a position in which they would rather grind hot peppers with their butt cheeks.
Don't get me wrong, there are good teachers (some of which actually showed support) but some are not good teachers and some aren't good people either; I've decided it's time to stop complaining and take action.
We recently released an alpha and I presented it to a teacher I had this semester (one of the "not so great" kind) as a DB proyect cuz fuck it I'm not doing 2 projects.
This teacher is your run of the mill "I'm lazy and I don't care" teacher and she ran the classroom like a shitty kindergarten, so much so, one of the teams was presenting a buggy admin site as their project and she started talking on the phone! Right up on their faces!!
My turn, I go up and handle her a 30 page printed thesis of my project and said that unlike my mates, I was going to start presenting the idea and then the actual software...why is it printed?, She said; Because I won't be projecting the PDF ma'am, I actually made a professional presentation and that way you can read more technical details while I give a broad overview...
I started talking about the huge issues students face and my research about it, undisciplined teachers, no class structure ~ abrupt interruption ~ "yeah I know like, you are giving so much statistics and numbahs but where is the database?"
I got pissed off because the whole purpose of printing and giving her the docs was for her to ask specific questions AT THE END! So I told her I was getting there and to ask questions at the end...I start showing off the system's sweetest features... everyone got quiet...a girl on the front row kept looking at the teacher and then back to the board with her eyes wide open, the teacher was visibly upset.
I asked someone to please help me by using the site being projected for everyone to see, he searched the teacher's name and it obviously popped up cuz I scrapped the whole teacher index site... some people gasp and others start murmuring.
She freaked and started arguing saying that frontend can't be just HTML and CSS, where did you mentioned x and y feature? admit it's just teacher evaluations! where did you get the teacher names? I want the scripts!....it went on even 10 minutes after class and the next class with a police like interrogation.
So yeah, something tells me I'm not getting an A, but I'm happy after all because that's the kind of reaction I want from those types of professors.
Worth it 😎11
Awesome, first paying gig and I get to build a site for a local school system!
Superintendent and 3 network admins at the stakeholder meeting to approve the design?
Wait, you don't want the school colors, but ones from your favorite football team?
Seriously? Blinking police light line art bookending the alert block?
You.... Want my design as a Dreamweaver template?
I'm just going to go sit in a corner and cry now...3
This has been a great year for me programing wise. Learned Go, got my first job working in it.
Not so much for my health. My six year old neighbor came to visit and I guess you could say the mother freaked out. We were just playing in the pool when the police shot me.2
That's it. I've had enough.
I lost my job yesterday (again) and the Irish cumstain who lives in the room next to me got pissed last night and kicked my door in because he thought I had his phone(?) and was ignoring him, when I was at work.
Long story short, he ripped my friends back door apart, tried to fight me (which ended with me chasing him down the street with a plank).
Police came and did a wonderful job as always by making us shake hands and 'promise' to leave each other alone.
THIS ISN'T FUCKING PRIMARY SCHOOL. DRAG HIM AWAY BEFORE I DO, YOU IGNORANT FUCKING PIGS.
Oh, and my 'friend' then had a schizophrenic episode and blamed it all on me(?!?). I then went to buy 2 bottles of vodka and decided to get pissed before trying to kill myself.
Ah, I love humans. Dirty, ignorant, blood sucking bags of sweaty meat and delicate bone. I really want to turn this Irish cunt into a skinsack of blood and guts, but I'm waiting patiently. He's going to wake up one night tied up and gagged, with me dragging him to a forest somewhere far far away...
Is it weird that I want to make him scream, cry, and shit himself at the same time?11
//little Story of a sys admin
Wondered why a Server on my Linux Root couldn't build a network connection, even when it was running.
Checked iptables and saw, that the port of the Server was redirected to a different port.
I never added that rule to the firewall. Checked and a little script I used from someone else generated traffic for a mobile game.
OK beginn the DDoS Penetration. Over 10 Gbit/s on some small servers.
Checked Facebook and some idiot posted on my site:
Stop you little shithead or I will report you to the police!!!
Checked his profile page and he had a small shitty android game with a botnet.
1. let him be
2. Fuck him up for good
Lets Sudo with 2.
I scaled up my bandwith to 25 Gbit/s and found out that guys phone number.
Slowly started to eat away his bandwith for days. 3 days later his server was unreachable.
Then I masked my VoIP adress and called him:
Me: Hi, you know me?
He: No WTF! Why are you calling me.
Me: I love your're game a lot, I really love it.
He: What's wrong with you? Who are you?
Me: I'm teach
Me: Teach me lesson
He: Are you crazy I'm hanging up!
Me: I really love you're game. I even took away all your bandwith. Now you're servers are blocked, you're game banned on the store.
He: WHAT, WHAT? (hearing typing)
Me: Don't fuck with the wrong guys. I teached you a lesson, call me EL PENETRATO
He: FUCK Fuck Fuck you! Who are you???!!! I'm going to report you!
He: I got you're logs!
Me: Check it at Utrace...
He: Holy shit all around the world
Me: Lemme Smash Bitch
Never worked before so I'll talk about one of the former staff at my school.
This guy worked as IT and did some teaching in the high school. Early last year, he suddenly disappears for no reason.
Now, I'm going to go in order of what we (the students) found out, not, chronological order.
Firstly, turns out that in class he would make comments about female students. Nothing explicit, just kinda strange. I forget the examples I heard but think like the overly friendly old guy. Those types of comments from a 40-something IT guy. (Some female students knew about this for a long while but I only heard about it after the investigation)
Next, rumor got out that they found some stuff on his computer. I don't know how, but it turned out to be accurate, and we were accurate at the follow-up assumption that it was porn.
After that, the school made an announcement that we had been arrested. Up until then, we just assumed he had been sacked. He was weird sure, but we didn't think criminal.
Some other students looked into the police records, and it turns out this guy had been arrested for possession and distribution of child pornography.
Pretty sick right? Its worth pointing out now that our school has Pre-K through 12th grade students.
I gained a new level of respect for my female classmates after that. I didn't even know that was going on, really wish I could have helped out.2
I was super excited when sirca 2009, I first made my own video streaming website.
It even had a live chat. I was streaming movies from an academic cloud infrastructure intended for research with an account I made using fake credentials.
They found out and I got banned, of course. Also they got my real ID and sent me a super angry letter, but no police was involved.
Ten years later I'm MSc in CI with access to CERN's grid network, but I cannot use any resources on their infrastructure. :P
When I left school I decided to apply for a junior dev role. I received a call back later that day and they tried to sell me access to some course with the promise of a job afterwords. They gave me a website to visit to find more information.
I Googled the company and found that it was as I suspected a scam and that they had been praying on the jobless for sometime.
So, I played around on the site they told me to visit for a while and found a rather simple SQLI. I managed to pull the admin email/password (which they stored as plain text) the email address belonged to a Gmail account.
I tried the password for the Gmail account turns out the account belongs to the person running the scam. I find an email from the hosting account and you guessed it the password was the same.
I pulled the site down and replaced it with a picture of the person running the scam along with his name and the words "I'm a dirty scammer".
Then I sent all the info to the police (he'd been running a few others scams too) not sure what that lead to I didn't hear anything back.1
Hmm, What could go wrong with allowing mediocre programmers to police good programmers?
Some of the core contributors are already leaving Linux behind.
I'm gonna flex and tell that I've got a new Switch. My family and friends are really the best.
Thanks to them I also got to know that thief that stole my original Switch is named Stephan.
So I also want to thank you, Stephan, you thieving fuck. I hope you'll have fun with my console. I know that the police won't do shit since you are living in different country, so you can feel safe.
I've lost most of my games along with the console, cause I'm an idiot, but if anyone want to add me to their friend list here's my code:

What the fuck?
Yea, lets give the (in my opinion corrupt) police the full power to do just about everything - Oh and if you are not christian, bad for you we also put crosses everywhere you look now.
WHAT IN THE FUCKING FUCK? Why in the flying fuckworld is it possible to do such changes to the law without listening to "intelligent" (intelligent == people with a bit of common sense) people?
Same happened when europe wanted to give robots basic human rights (luckily they gave up on that after scientists wrote a paper)
This REALLY isnt a world I want to live in.19
This is the story connected to this rant:
Thanks everybody for the concern! I want to inform you that I'm doing alright again. I went to a not too big event not far from home.
After a few beers and one stronger drink me and my friend had a good time. Everything that happened after, I can't remember it.
My friend told me we were walking to our bikes (he wouldn't let me go home, he noticed something was wrong) and right before we arrived I fell to the ground. After a while my friend helped me up but as I stood again I fell immediately, my head hit the ground hard.
I puked a lot and after almost an hour the police was there, who called an ambulance (last night I got a flashback in my dreams and vaguely saw one of the two ambulance drivers.
They inspected me but surprisingly they didn't take me to the hospital. My friends' mom also arrived and together they pulled me in to her car.
After that they brought me home and of course my parents were shocked as hell. They pulled me out of the car and put me down on the couch. It was about 4 am at this moment.
I first woke up at 7 am but immediately fell asleep again (I can't remember me doing this but my father said I did this, he stayed awake the rest of the night). An hour later, 8 am, I finally woke up. A lot went through my head because I could't remember how I came home.
Without many words I went to bed and later we talked about everything that happened.6
This isn't exactly a rant, more of a plea for help... And it probably needs to be quickly too.
I recently had an author and maintainer of a project with whom I collaborate with tell me that they are going to transfer the project to me due to the fact that they wish to end their life.
I know very little about them other than three online accounts (Skype, Reddit, GitHub), their email account (from their GitHub account), the fact that they live in the USA. I don't even know their true name.
I have no idea what to do, and there isn't exactly any help for this kind of situation (it's always "contact your local authority" online), but I don't think that the UK police have any authority in the USA.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I've already contacted the Cambridge police in Massachusetts via email (I have no method of calling internationally), but I haven't been able to do anything else so far.18
My grandmother think I'm a hacker and i can hack banks, police and state department systems.
Her friends think I can start WWIII while i can hack military systems (think nuclear weapons) ...
I feel bad for them.1
When a police officer comes up to you randomly to talk about the best torrent sites in my opinion and if I ever have any Netflix or Hulu accounts available to let him know.... LOL WUT?!4
Update on the asshole trying to come visit me, according to police he was dead drunk, further look at the offline CCTV he even tried to knock on my backyards glass sliding doors (only accessible by CLEARLY trespassing) and my neighbours saying he was yelling incoherent shit, I got also basically told "we can't do much, because he hasn't hurt nobody nor destroyed anything".13
Fuck that day, honestly. Today during my driving lesson I was a witness of a car crash literally 5 meters in front of me (the older man cut the road of other guy, that other guy hit the old man's car and old man has hit the lamp post. Good thing no was injured, except of few bumpers, car doors and lamp).
The train which was supposed to take me back to Leiden was 10 minutes late, so I couldn't catch the earlier bus.
When I got off the train, went to catch a next bus, there was huge crowd outside, because police was taking care of the suspicious bag left in front of the train station (pic). Lots of cop, lots of people. Fortunately that wasn't a bomb.
The only positive thing was that I helped some nice Hindi guy find his bus 😁26
Yesterday evening my family were watching his favourite tv show. Have nothing to do i too sat there with them.
The scenes on television were going like : The leading lady of the show were trying to convince her family that her husband is not involved in the molestations which police has charged on him. Person can be look alike of her husband. In fact my husband was some where else when the molestation was happening. She also had a proof and that was CCTV camera footage in a Compact Disk. So she started playing it in the TV presented in room with CD player. But it turns out that CD can't be played because villain hired a hacker to corrupt video quality playing in TV.
I laughed because in my knowledge that was not even possible in real life. Every family memeber started staring at me.
My mother : That's what you do? No? That's what you do whole day in your office?
Me: No, no. I....
My mother: See her face. Poor lady.
Me: But mom, that's impossible. It is just fiction. In real life it is not possible.
My mother : Get out of my sight.
My mom did not dine yesterday. These fucking serial maker. These women's.
Fresh internship story (Part 3)
Turns out my coworker with a mental disorder(adhs and idk what you call it. He is 24 years old, but is mentally between 16 and 18) is gay.
ATTENTION: DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER SINCE THIS IS GOING TO GET DISGUSTING!
My cheap coworker's name is Justin btw. I felt a weird atmosphere when I joined the team. Justin seemed to be a hetero guy. (I am generally assuming that every guy and girl I met is hetero). But he had his slightly "gay moves".
Yesterday, I was curious about it and asked him about why he was afraid about the police to identify him on a video to start the conversation. He told me that his ex did cheat on him. Since I assumed that he was hetero I asked if the girl was cheating on him. He got embarrassed.
him:"I uhmm... am... not hetero. I am...*stops talking*"
me:"What? Are you bi? Are you gay? What are you?"
him:"I am gay."
me:"Oh... *tries to hide the shock* I see.*silence for a minute*"
me:"What is the name of your ex?"
Justin:"Fabian. Fabian had a video and pictures of me and he put them online and did spread them with everyone. After that I got punched by some dudes. Now I want to take my revenge."
me:"... well... now that makes sense.*silence*"
I felt sorry for him and decided to keep listening. I made a wrong decision there.
2 hours later he told me how he got gay, because I wanted to know if he was born gay or if he became gay.
He told me his whole life was full of sex.
He found a sextape of his parents and jerked off to it without cuming since he did not even hit puberty yet. Then he had sex with a 6 year old girl and then with a 12 year old girl when he was 8 or something in both cases.
Later he got into a place full of guys.
He first started jerking off to hetero porn among the dudes. I wonder how he got no shame while doing it. Anyways, after that he began to feel something for boys and less for girls since boys were able to understand him more than girls. Then he became gay and his sex life with boys started.
It was very disgusting, but I wanted to know it.
*he keeps talking about how Fabian fucked him outside in the bushes and I keep ignoring him*9
Trying to decide which course to take next on edX.org. It looks like either Java or Python is the next language I am going to take on as almost all the courses I'd like to take are done in those two languages.
I guess I will start "Software Construction in Java" from MITx tonight. I always have a hard time wanting to start courses in a language I am not very familiar with, idk why, just having to constantly lookup the docs for methods and struggling to make proper format irritates me. So I go in waves, I will not move out of my comfort zone for many months, then start something new eventually. Really, work is wearing me out, thinking about switching careers again to be honest. I just don't know what, I thought I would like an office job, turns out, I would rather be out and about moving around. I wonder what the age cutoff is to be a police officer?5
A lot of larger companies seem to be a happy about forcing employees to change their password every three months or so. They do it for security measures so that it is more difficult to break through the system, however most people end up making the worst passwords.
Instead of forcing a very good password on them every year or two maybe, they all end up having passwords like: "Summer16", "Qwer1234", "London15".
I used to work for our national police, and this was the case there as well...8
I was on a interview two weeks ago, got a mail today that I had been selected to the third round (government intel stuff)
I got clean sheet from the police and the "Security Service" in the country.
And now, in the mail. The recruiter wanted me to give contacts to my current boss. I am one of 4 and I dont want to sacrifice the trust that my boss have on me.
What the '''' should I do?2
So I go for a run for the first time, well, ever. I put my keychain in my pocket and I'm off with my headphones on. Come back home I FUCKING LOST MY WHOLE KEYCHAIN. Key to my house, my apartment, the garage remote, .. fucking dogshit man. Tried to track it down by going down the same path twice but no luck so now my only hope is the police but what are the odds :/4
Really regretted to born in India. I know I should not say bad about the country in which I born and living it but there are so many reasons.
Govt of India is very poor. Nothing can be processed if you don't have offered bribe or you don't have political power and pressure.
My company offering me onsite to go London for my project, govt is not issuing me PCC Police Clearance Certificate even I never had any crime.
Police says for your current address 6 month is duration you're living here so we submitted 6 months crime is nil and 4.5 years is more required.
I went to passport office and happy to submit all documentation for previous addresses so that police verification can be done but no body is taking documents
No progress in my file.
I'm too much frustrated now.
I reported to ministry and prime minister of India but even no progress.
I'm really fed-up.
I started getting into .net core.
I am researching VB.NET as well as C# even though I already know C#.
And I am using a light theme.6
After 11hours of coding on friday, got home, eat and went to sleep early.
7 AM, the neighbor from upstairs decided to hammer some nails on the wall. Now at 7:43 I am thinking of calling the police.6
Me: Calling [emergency number in my country] : Hi, can you connect me to police in [my city + district]?
Operator: No, but I will connect you to country-wide police cetral, please wait... "
LIKE WHAT THE FUCK2
When I was in 11th class, my school got a new setup for the school PCs. Instead of just resetting them every time they are shut down (to a state in which it contained a virus, great) and having shared files on a network drive (where everyone could delete anything), they used iServ. Apparently many schools started using that around that time, I heard many bad things about it, not only from my school.
Since school is sh*t and I had nothing better to do in computer class (they never taught us anything new anyway), I experimented with it. My main target was the storage limit. Logins on the school PCs were made with domain accounts, which also logged you in with the iServ account, then the user folder was synchronised with the iServ server. The storage limit there was given as 200MB or something of that order. To have some dummy files, I downloaded every program from portableapps.com, that was an easy way to get a lot of data without much manual effort. Then I copied that folder, which was located on the desktop, and pasted it onto the desktop. Then I took all of that and duplicated it again. And again and again and again... I watched the amount increate, 170MB, 180, 190, 200, I got a mail saying that my storage is full, 210, 220, 230, ... It just kept filling up with absolutely zero consequences.
At some point I started using the web interface to copy the files, which had even more interesting side effects: Apparently, while the server was copying huge amounts of files to itself, nobody in the entire iServ system could log in, neither on the web interface, nor on the PCs. But I didn't notice that at first, I thought just my account was busy and of course I didn't expect it to be this badly programmed that a single copy operation could lock the entire system. I was told later, but at that point the headmaster had already called in someone from the actual police, because they thought I had hacked into whatever. He basically said "don't do again pls" and left again. In the meantime, a teacher had told me to delete the files until a certain date, but he locked my account way earlier so that I couldn't even do it.
Btw, I now own a Minecraft account of which I can never change the security questions or reset the password, because the mail address doesn't exist anymore and I have no more contact to the person who gave it to me. I got that account as a price because I made the best program in a project week about Java, which greatly showed how much the computer classes helped the students learn programming: Of the ~20 students, only one other person actually had a program at the end of the challenge and it was something like hello world. I had translated a TI Basic program for approximating fractions from decimal numbers to Java.
The big irony about sending the police to me as the 1337_h4x0r: A classmate actually tried to hack into the server. He even managed to make it send a mail from someone else's account, as far as I know. And he found a way to put a file into any account, which he shortly considered to use to put a shutdown command into autostart. But of course, I must be the great hacker.3
So... I had some money left over and added a 3d printer to my terrorist workshop (some of you might remember the picture I posted a while ago. A friend of mine gave it the name after the police stormed a hackerspace in Nuremberg and I wondered when they would kick down my door. )...
That's how far I got in two hours (from cutting open the package), and I don't really fancy myself dexterous... Not anymore at least.
I suppose this will be a weeklong project 😂.3
rant = Rant.STORY_TIME
This is still something funny me and my friends often remember.
There was once upon a time we were young and stupid, playing on the internet with fake credit card numbers, sometimes we had luck and the orders passed.
We were on the living room, checking who could put an order for a coffee machine, while another friend of mine was talking about the deep web and what he found there.
Suddenly, someone knocks really hard on the door... We went silent...
Me: "Who's there?"
Voice: Federal Police, open up!
I went blank, close my laptop as fast as possible, I thought of throwing it away through the window. My friends panicked, I had my laptop upside down, opening the lid to remove the HDD.
One of my friends stood up and went to the door, looked through the eyehole.
Friend: *whispering* The eyehole's covered!
We quickly stood up and looked at each other, like we were acknowledging our wrong doing and getting ready to face the consequences.
I took a deep breath and put the key in the door to open it. Sudden heavy knock again. I jumped and yelled "I'm on it, wait a minute!".
Slowly I opened the door... And there they were, another two of my friends.
F1: hey...what, what happened? Why are you so scared.
They stepped in while we told them what we were doing and they laughed their asses off.
We were shit scared, and those two were laughing.
So, nowadays, I don't even think about doing that kind of stuff again and I'm hoping to make a Master's degree in security...or electronics, whatever happens first.
Just been watching some police soap on YT with "real police officers in action". Haha, yeah.
Huh, what's that outside, flashing blue light? Oh, a police car. No, two. Three. Actually, four. All of the guys rush into the neighbour house, WTF. Real police officers in action.
java is like that girl I have mixed feelings for.
on one instance I want to take her out for a movie,
on another I want to murder her by repeated stabbing... okay, maybe that's just for java...😨
Just drove home after working late at the office. Was kind of in the zone and didn't wanna stop.
On my way I see the police closing the road in front of me, because of a pretty bad accident that happened a couple minutes ago.
MFW Coding saved my life!
Of course, I just swiped the wrong way on my fucking laptop trackpad and list everything I just typed. FUCKING MARVELOUS.
TL;DR: Teacher stopped me from being productive. Principal almost called cops on me. Nearly threw chair at librarian.
So I'm at school yesterday, and we have a presenter in 2nd hour, so naturally, I'm gonna be on my computer doing things for other classes at the same time. Efficiency. Teacher doesn't like it, I refuse to put the computer away telling her that I'll be more productive and still pay attention, which HAS BEEN PROVEN MIND YOU, but she ends up calling security on me and I get sent down to the principal's office.
I talk to him, and he says 'Yeah, I know it's in the way, but you have to follow the directive given by the teachers.' Fine, fuck it. Won't go to her class for third hour. (I have her twice in a row for two different classes.) Next day.
I walk in, asking her if she's gonna do the same thing she did yesterday, hoping that she realized her error and will fix it, but no. She says I STILL can't have the computer out. I'm sorry, do you not realize I have 6 other fucking classes, most of which are required to graduate, unlike YOURS, as well as a FUCKING COLLEGE CLASS TONIGHT?! She gives the ultimatum. 'Obey or leave.' Fine, I'll leave. I go to the principal's office again, he must have a stick up his ass or something today because he's not budging. We argue for a while and he gives a WORSE ultimatum: 'Obey, Go to the Library, In House Suspension, or I'll call the police.' What the actual FUCK MAN?! You're gonna call the POLICE on a NONVIOLENT STUDENT?! Are you fucking MAD? I keep trying to tell him that there's an easy solution to this, but as he's getting up to call the cops, I say 'Fine! I'll go to the library!' He follows me over to make sure I don't kill anyone on the way.
I slam the door to the library open, and when I walk in, the librarian is there at her computer, and she asks 'Where are you coming from?' 'Principal!' 'I need a pass-' 'Well, I'm sorry, I can't exactly get anything for you right now, I was just sent down here.' She says 'Either way, I need some kind of note or pas-' 'Listen, I'm not in the mood for any of this right now. Please, just leave me be.' She then tries to say something, but I cut her off quickly, 'Just back off and leave me alone right now. The more you push it, the more you're gonna make me want to throw this chair!' Imagine the volume just gradually getting louder on that last one. She quickly runs out and talks to the security desk or something, which is right outside the library door, but she's the only one who comes in, thankfully. I was expecting to be fucking dragged out for no good reason. I'm loud, not violent. I have no history of violence.
So yeah. Here I am in the school library, angrily tapping away at my keyboard, trying not to throw the entire table to the fucking moon. All because this broken-ass public school system has no idea how to deviate from the norm when it's actually productive and efficient to do so. And now, the obligatory:
FUCKING PIECES OF SHIT WHY DON'T YOU REALIZE THAT YOU ARE COMPLETELY WRONG IN EVERY SINGLE THING YOU ARE DOING YOU IDIOTIC SCUM-FILLED MEAT SACKS OF NO FORSEEABLE VALUE! FUCK!1
Just another privacy rant.
I'm sick of people using the excuse "I don't care if Google keeps all my data it's just for adds"
That's true now but if you look at the current trends governments are making to forcing ISP's to store metadata, then it will be the actual data. Eventually they push that to other companises as well.
Now look at Australia for example the police don't need to notify you, let alone get a warrant, to access your metadata. There's also a law in NSW were you can be charged for accociating with a peraon commuting a crime.... Now your in jail for downloading movies years ago that you forgot about but your ISP didn't. I now that's a rather extreme punishment but, Imagine if the government needed some cash so they fine every person that ever downloaded a movie and everyone accociated with person.
Just a crazy theory with poor examplees but just because your data isn't hurting now doesn't mean it won't.
I'm gonna sit in a corner with my tin foil hat now.5
1. It's gonna be more and more specialized - to the point where we'll equal or even outdo the medical profession. Even today, you can put 100 techs/devs into a room and not find two doing the same job - that number will rise with the advent of even more new fields, languages and frameworks.
2. As most end users enjoy ignoring all security instructions, software and hardware will be locked down. This will be the disadvantage of developers, makers and hackers equally. The importance of social engineering means the platform development will focus on protecting the users from themselves, locking out legitimate tinkerers in the process.
3. With the EU getting into the backdoor game with eTLS (only 20 years after everyone else realized it's shit), informational security will reach an all-time low as criminals exploit the vulnerabilities that the standard will certainly have.
4. While good old-fashioned police work still applies to the internet, people will accept more and more mass surveillance as the voices of reason will be silenced. Devs will probably hear more and more about implementing these or joining the resistance.
5. We'll see major leaks, both as a consequence of mass-surveillance (done incompetently and thus, insecurely) and as activist retaliation.
6. As the political correctness morons continue invading our communities and projects, productivity will drop. A small group of more assertive devs will form - not pretty or presentable, but they - we - get shit done for the rest.
7. With IT becoming more and more public, pseudo-knowledge, FUD and sales bullshit will take over and, much like we're already seeing it in the financial sector, drown out any attempt of useful education. There will be a new silver-bullet, it will be useless. Like the rest. Stick to brass (as in IDS/IPS, Firewall, AV, Education), less expensive and more effective.
8. With the internet becoming a part of the real life without most people realizing it and/or acting accordingly, security issues will have more financial damages and potentially lethal consequences. We've already seen insulin pumps being hacked remotely and pacemakers' firmware being replaced without proper authentication. This will reach other areas.
9. After marijuana is legalized, dev productivity will either plummet or skyrocket. Or be entirely unaffected. Who cares, I'll roll the next one.
10. There will be new JS frameworks. The world will turn, it will rain.1
Ever have one of those moments where you're running a service you built to update about a decade worth of police records, realize about halfway through that you fucked the loop and you're copying data from the first record onto every other record, and then just really wish that you had checked things better in test before running this on the prod server?
I'm sure the only reason I'm still here is because the audit log contained the original values and I'm good at pulling data out of it.1
So this will be my first rant/story sorry if it gets too long.
So finished work and I was like finally some days off, went to bed, woke up the next morning, went to near city to take care of some work, went back and I noticed they were digging the ground near my place, as I've found out from neighbors they were changing some pipes, well ok no problem arrived home, sat on my PC to study a bit and do a bit gaming, but guess what?? NO INTERNET well ok contacted the ISP, the idiots told me it will take them 2 days to arrive WTF? is this 2018 or 1918?? I was so pissed off but ok the next day they called me that they arrived, they checked and said that they will need to fix some wires they will return the same day.. so I've waited few hours but no internet, the asholes didn't came, so the next day they arrived and guess what?! the idiots that digged the holes cut the wires, instead of fucking contacting the ISP to ask for supervisor to tell them where they can dig they didn't know what was the fire for and they thought oh well lets cut the fucking wire, and instead of stopping and contacting the ISP about their mistake they continued with the digging and cut the wire at 3 places, so the ISP at the end called the police, the plumbers that did the digging where just laughing, why do you laugh you primitive ashole, even 10 year old would first ask if it can continue if it finds something that he didn't know about it (I call primitive the person not the job title), and the best part is that the idiots not only they cut the wire at 3 places they also took part of it out of the ground and then they filled the holes back! Now I won't have internet for 2 fucking weeks, yes in 2018 this is happening, at that moment I was so pissed, but kept my cool and contacted the ISP to give me LTE USB stick to use it for the next 2 weeks, sadly they couldn't do that wtf??? So I asked politely who will pay the damage for me not working for 2 weeks and they said that they will gladly pay the damage.. So I was confused because that literally meant that they will compassed me for the 2 weeks, so I re-asked are they sure about that and they said yes, so lets see what it will be done, in the meantime I solved the internet problem by using my phone to access internet on the PC.. But still its amazing how primitive people can be and how ISP don't have alternative solutions for such cases, just to point out this sam ISP bragged how they will be among the first to bring 5G when it arrives... LOL4
Had been to an interview today. It was renowned Bank which was hiring for a position of SSE.
You know what!! I was not allowed inside the building because I was not carrying my original driving license with me. What the fuck?? 😡😠Even traffic police won't ask for an original license!! (at least in India)5
Privacy should be respected by everyday people and governments alike. Privacy helps fuel free speech. When there's no privacy and you can be arrested just for trying to organize a protest, that means that not only your privacy is not respected, but your freedom of speech is silenced.
I am honestly disgusted by how much governments can spy on you. I am also disgusted that American politicians condone the surveillance. I am completely disgusted that president Bush and other presidents such as Obama up to this day condoned the surveillance law because it can "prevent terrorism".
Tell me, how can you predict if anyone suddenly decides to ram their car into hundreds of people? How can you predict if someone suddenly decides to make some molotov cocktails in his basement and then burns down his neighborhood? You can't. This law was passed by president Bush because of 9/11. But even if the government was spying on its people before 9/11, I doubt that they could have prevented it. This surveillance does not stop terrorists. Even if it did, I do not think that it is worth it to trade in your privacy and freedom of speech for safety that is not even completely assured. Plus, we have the police, it is their jobs to arrest anyone acting violently on the streets.
The act is also called "The Patriot act". What is patrioting about silencing your own people and not following the constitution? Where is the patriotism in that? If the government could know as much information about its subjects in the 1960s as it knows today, Martin Luther King Jr. would have been silenced long before he could even organize the protests. Where is the freedom of speech in that?
I am also wondering why are people not even worried about the government tracking everything they do on the internet. This is unwarranted search, how dare they do such a thing! If any of you know of any anti-surveillance protests in the US, please tell me about them, I want to support them as much as I can!3
I am SOOO fucking sick of being asked if our website and gaming servers are going to be GDPR compliant. All these game owners in a panic changing everything they do just to conform to this law.
Fuck GDPR. In all reality COME AT ME BITCH. The EU wants to grow a pair of balls and act like the world internet police? Bring it the FUCK on. You can't even stop pirating in your own country, so how the FUCK are you going to regulate and enforce this law on HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of servers, when your punk ass government can't even shutdown a single torrenting website.
Give me a fucking break, and shame on you pussies for allowing it. All you people running around scared acting like your private gaming servers are important. I give a shit less how much work you put into your server. I have put more work than most anyone else, but you don't see me trying to act self important as if my gaming server is some fortune 500 company.
Your server isn't important and neither are you. The government doesn't give a shit about your server so can we all just stop acting like this fucking matters. NO ONE FUCKING CARES ABOUT YOUR SERVER.
NO ONE is going to come and sue you for not complying. GDPR is for business, and anyone that wants to argue no look it says right here it applies to all is a fucking MORON. Do you idiots stop and think or do you just believe everything typed out on paper.
THEY CANT ENFORCE THIS ON EVERYONE. They don't have the resources. So use your fucking heads and stop being so fucking scared of a law that has no resources to stop you. THEY CAN"T DO ANYTHING. EU and whoever made their polices, I DARE them to try and touch my server, I WANT them to start something with me, just so I can show the rest of the world why the Internet is still the wild west and why they have no power over me.
You think pirate bay is the only one who knows how to hide their server? You think pirate bay is the only one who keeps backups of their server to be able to re release in an instant somewhere else in the world? Bitch get real this is the internet, a place where a 5 year old can buy hand grenades from the Red Silk Road, and you wanna talk to me about your privacy? Go fuck yourself.
It's not my problem some douche bag went onto a site that used his personal information in the wrong manner. So how about you do what everyone else does and browse ANONYMOUSLY. But no it would be to easy for governments to make their own citizens responsible. Instead they have to hold all of YOUR hands, because you people are to stupid to protect yourself.
Wake the fuck up world, and stop being a bunch of whining little brats who cry for the government to bubble wrap your world so you can live safer. Natural selection is long overdue for a lot of morons still breathing air.22
Recently I started to be interested in how code actually work. I do a for-loop or an if-statement but how do they actually work at the lowest level.
Another thing I've been interested in is security. I thought about learning how to hack my own systems in order to learn how to write more secure code and keep people out. But I'm a little afraid that as soon as I start look at how to hack, the police will storm through the window and take my computer 😂😂8
A functional developer kills a man. When the police arrests him, he gets very surprised. He thought he was stateless.2
Alright, so. If you had themes and things you would like to see in a cyberpunk novel what would they be? I already have corporate surveillance gone haywire, a neutered yet corrupt government, an active police state, and cyborgs. Protagonist is an on the grid citizen who is an off the grid hacker.4
I hate society for multiple reasons.
Stay safe guys.
"And after the gunman was shot dead by police, they reportedly remarked on the nice top they were wearing."
Twitter. From a genuinely open and global platform which pretty much single-handedly created a new market segment, to dogmatic SJW-infected thought police with no transparency or objectivity in how they operate. Gab is the closest we have come to a viable alternative at scale, but between industry-wide bullying to shut them down and their own short sighted inability to handle their own growth, Twitter still has an outright monopoly on their segment and no shame about abusing that position.
The police in England are utterly useless. Some of them are good, some of them try. But generally, they're a bag of shit.
I know this is random, but I can't really say any more than this and I need to rant about this shit. It's frustrating AF.9
Ok so I keep obsessing over RE2 because the game is just so fucking cool. But one thing that I want to make notice for us computer nerds:
In the police station, when you see the computers there that are on, you see a very 90's interface, and of course you will, the game takes place in 1998.
When you are at the Umbrella NEST facility, there are computers there, the interface looks TODAY modern. Meaning that(and I know we all fans of the games knew this already) Umbrella's tech is far beyond what common civilian entities have. I know this is done intentionally and I know people are aware of it, but I just think that it is a really really REALLY cool element to the story to have something like this.
On another note, I want to get excited about Kingdom Hearts 3. But fuck this it has been so long and I had already forgotten everything about 1 and 2 and I am not really a fan of the series anymore. A friend is coming over to play it, I just wish I was more hyped for it.7
Got a scammer on my hook. Ideas welcome to fuck him/her over.
He/she confused me with someone else and messaged me acting as a support person of an exchange. I acted along and s/he is insisting on sharing account details.
Played along like a dumb internet noob and I think I got him to share his fake email id.
Now I'm thinking of ways to extract more details about him via email.
From top of my mind, these are some ideas I have:
- get his IP address
- zip bomb or something like that? But g mail is probably gonna detect that.
Ideally, If I could social engineer him to give his phone number, I could easily report him to police and find his identity.
Have you busted some scammers? Would appreciate some tips.6
Watching the results come in on the voting system I built for the police union in my city. Crossing my fingers everything finishes without a hitch.2
This isn't about dev stuff or anything, but I guess zombies kind of exist now?
There's an article and news footage of a teenager high off of bath salts, ripping his clothes off, and attacking a man by tearing and eating half of the man's face.
From the article "When Miami Police officer Jose Ramirez arrived on the scene and ordered Eugene to freeze, the crazed attacker ignored the warning, growling at the officer instead. Ramirez shot Eugene once, then four more times when the first shot didn’t seem to have an effect, killing Eugene, but not before 70-80 percent of Poppo’s face had been chewed off."
You can go ahead and read about it here: http://gunsandammo.com/blogs/...
If you get sick looking at blood, or someone's face missing, don't click that link. You will probably put your phone down (or get up from your computer) and puke.5
So I had this friend who has his own company, hosting is part of their business. He gave me a VM to host some websites, test stuff and whatnot. Free. I have quite some important stuff on there (personal, and a few demo sites for clients). No backups of my own, because they do nightly tape backups, and RAID accross physically seperated datacenters. Today, he just shut down my VM - for personal reasons (really personal, nothing to do with his company whatsoever, he hates me lately for something I can't influence). He doesn't say weather or when Ill get the data, and gave me no time to pull it. Can/should I go to the police? I just want my data back, but I don't know if I can do anything as it was free (no contract).
My best project was a digital forensics project back in uni, digging through raw data the police forensic guy / professor gave us. Rarely Ive been so enveloped by anything as digging through raw data finding the clues as to what the guy had been up to and how he hid it.2
omg. do some people not have memory? do they not realize not everyone has the same skill level? internet speed or access?
from people being hypocrites and right out assholes or morons
people dogging on jokes
you can go to a profile and read recent comments - to see someone doing or bitching about something they then bitch about or do a day or few later/before. click their rants, "zomg why for do dis?" *scroll* "watch me do dis thing i bitch about"
and if you are going to complain to people about not being able to google - maybe trying googling a dictionary and look up the word "joke" that is in the tag. if you dont think it's funny, or it's overused, don't want to join in, or w/e, stfu and let others have fun ffs
are you an asshole? or just an idiot?2
Back when I was a freshman in high school a friend of mine put an emulator on the shared drive, so we could play NES games while in the computer lab. Didn't know better/didn't care. One day I get pulled out of class and walked into the computer guys office. In there is also the principal of the school and the Chief of police.
The computer guy tells me there was an issue last week that caused the school server to crash and it caused damage. I asked what happened and the he said one of the emulators we were playing had a script that crashed the server and caused damage. I asked how much damage and they informed me it was over 3 thousand dollars. At this point I'm very skeptical that the damage was worth about the cost of a new workstation (the old one sitting on his desk, buried in boxes), and afterwards none of the faculty knew of any kind of an outage. I asked for him to show me what broke and what had to be done to fix/replace the damaged equipment but all I got was a simple, "I'm sorry. I can't show you that at this time."
They threatened legal action for a felony of damaging a school property. Myself and the other tech savvy kids talked about it over the next couple of days wondering what would happen. They threatened expulsion for myself and a couple of other kids, but ultimately just got a talking to about keeping personal information safe.
What I got out of it was if they think I'm good with computers I must be doing something right. Now I'm in IT. This is where it went wrong.
I love it when I see posts on any social media site or app where it's like
"Looking for someone to hack a <insert social site> account"
Do they not know how secure those sites tend to be?
Do they think it's as easy as CSI makes it out to be?
Maybe they're the police trying to trick us
can any Americans here enlighten me, why do US police in movies/documentaries always say "vehicle" and "individual" instead of "car" and "person"?
I know a vehicle is not necessarily a car, but come on, say car, truck, bus, whatever.. isn't it more natural/common?8
Get home and laptop won't play nicely with the wifi 😡
Fix that and the whole fing house internet is slower than the police!1
Just migrated a behemoth of a wordpress installation and it works twice as fast on our shared hosting than the previous dedicated server with cdn it was on.
After just 2 emails from the previous website admin i understood why... The guy clearly has no idea what he is doing.
There should be an IT police squad for cases like these.1
I have come up with my greatest drunken idea, but I don't have the time. So I'm calling on you to make my dream come true. *dramatic music* Hanson Bot! The natural language dating site bot that poses as an underage girl, banking all interactions, setting a meet, and forwarding it to the local police. Chris Hanson... You thought you were safe... I'm gonna automate your job!1
- Can you list some of the most important recommendations to keep children and students safe when using the internet?
The most important message we share with young people is to tell someone if anything worries them online. It’s never too late.
With primary-age children, we recommend sharing our SMART rules of internet safety, such as keeping personal information safe. These rules are brought to life in the animation ‘The Adventures of Captain Kara and the SMART Crew’. With this age group it’s also important to talk about being kind and respectful to others when chatting online, which is explored in our storybook ‘Digiduck’s Big Decision’. Take a look at these and other resources for primary-age children. This section also features our Smartie the Penguin e-book. Download it for free and see how Smartie learns to be safe on the internet. Also, take a look at this video of one of our colleagues narrating the story of ‘Smartie the Penguin’ to a classroom of primary school kids. They are learning all about internet safety in an engaging way.
At secondary school, it is important that students understand how to use the internet safely, respectfully and legally. In our education sessions on the https://tutoriage.com/essay-editor in schools we discuss key issues such as cyberbullying, sexting and online reputation, and help young people think about the potential consequences of their online actions. Young people should be reminded to ‘think before you post’, as content posted online can last forever and could be shared publicly by anyone. It’s also really important that young people understand the safety tools, such as blocking, reporting and privacy tools, that are available on the sites, apps and devices they use, and that they know what to do if anything worries or upsets them online.
When we speak to parents and carers, we encourage them to have ongoing conversations with their children about the safe and responsible use of technology. We also have guides to help parents set up parental control tools. It’s important for parents to find out more about the different sites, apps and devices their children use, and consider the different online risks that young people may face, such as ‘content’ risks like pornography or violence, ‘contact’ risks such as cyberbullying or grooming, and ‘conduct’ risks such as sharing too much information or sexting. We cover some of the main risks in our ‘hot topics’ section.
- Where is the best place to report online threats and where would you advise parents or teachers to go first? At what point should parents and teachers involve the police?
If young people are bullied or threatened online, it’s really important that they tell a trusted adult, such as a parent or teacher. They should save the evidence by taking screenshots, and remember that it’s best not to retaliate or reply. Most social networks and other services have reporting mechanisms where you can report bullying and abuse. Blocking tools are also helpful to prevent people from making further contact.
Involving the school is really important, as they will be able to respond to the issue in accordance with the school’s anti-bullying policy and provide the young person with support. If schools need help in responding to the issue and escalating concerns to sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or Instagram, then they can contact the Safer Internet Centre helpline for professionals.
- Your website states that members of your Education team can come in and do e-safety presentations for teachers. Can you tell us a little bit about what these would cover?
Every week we’re in schools across the US, speaking to children, parents, carers and teachers. Our teacher sessions aim to make sure that school staff feel equipped to safeguard children online. We help them to understand potential online risks and how young people use technology, as well as how to respond to online safeguarding concerns..
It’s important to empower teachers with the tools to teach their own internet safety lessons. We show them exactly how to do that by showcasing our wealth of online resources. Schools that want a taster can watch our free INSET presentation. This includes supporting materials so it can be delivered by your school’s e-safety lead.6
