Gmail puts emails from YouTube into spam, Google Chrome blocks pop ups from Google Drive
10/10 compatibility across products _/\_6 -
Friend: What's that?
Me: DuckDuckGo. It's my default search engine.
Friend: Try using Google instead, it's better.
Me: But Google spies on you.
Friend: So?
Me: Don't you care about your privacy?
Friend: It's not like they are going to kill me. It doesn't matter.
Me: *mumbles* typical muggle...
I'm surprised that people could care less for their privacy. I would ban all things google, but I need google docs.
Also, my idiotic school requires gmail and google classroom. Oh, and did I forget to mention we have to use chromebooks!97 -

Hello Monday:
0.Arrive late due to traffic.(Apparently a car hit a cow crossing the road)
1. Try upgrading php5 to php7 and break stuff in the process and waste 2 hours fixing things.(Poor connection so ssh sessions hung occasionally)
2.PHP fixed, open Gmail and get over 100 emails from clients about the server being down(because of (0)).Ignore all.Find a snaglist of over 20 TODOs.
3.Open Android Studio, update to 2.3 and everything becomes broken. Each time i open it ,it crashes and i have to "Report to Google"
4.Spend the next 1 hour reinstalling AS.It finally works.
5.Open Project and the libraries are broken.Spend another hour upgrading build tools.
6.Leave SDK to update and decide to check my Google Cloud console.$50 bill pending.Shit.
7.Try XCode. Remember the project is still in Swift 2 and I have to upgrade it(Would take eternity).Immediately closes xcode.
8.Gives up on life and decides to log into Devrant.4 -
!(short rant)
Look I understand online privacy is a concern and we should really be very much aware about what data we are giving to whom. But when does it turn from being aware to just being paranoid and a maniac about it.? I mean okay, I know facebook has access to your data including your whatsapp chat (presumably), google listens to your conversations and snoops on your mail and shit, amazon advertises that you must have their spy system (read alexa) install in your homes and numerous other cases. But in the end it really boils down to "everyone wants your data but who do you trust your data with?"
For me, facebook and the so-called social media sites are a strict no-no but I use whatsapp as my primary chating application. I like to use google for my searches because yaa it gives me more accurate search results as compared to ddg because it has my search history. I use gmail as my primary as well as work email because it is convinient and an adv here and there doesnt bother me. Their spam filters, the easy accessibility options, the storage they offer everything is much more convinient for me. I use linux for my work related stuff (obviously) but I play my games on windows. Alexa and such type of products are again a big no-no for me but I regularly shop from amazon and unless I am searching for some weird ass shit (which if you want to, do it in some incognito mode) I am fine with coming across some advs about things I searched for. Sometimes it reminds me of things I need to buy which I might have put off and later on forgot. I have an amazon prime account because prime video has some good shows in there. My primary web browser is chrome because I simply love its developer tools and I now have gotten used to it. So unless chrome is very much hogging on my ram, in which case I switch over to firefox for some of my tabs, I am okay with using chrome. I have a motorola phone with stock android which means all google apps pre-installed. I use hangouts, google keep, google map(cannot live without it now), heck even google photos, but I also deny certain accesses to apps which I find fishy like if you are a game, you should not have access to my gps. I live in India where we have aadhar cards(like the social securtiy number in the USA) where the government has our fingerprints and all our data because every damn thing now needs to be linked with your aadhar otherwise your service will be terminated. Like your mobile number, your investment policies, your income tax, heck even your marraige certificates need to be linked with your aadhar card. Here, I dont have any option but to give in because somehow "its in the interest of the nation". Not surprisingly, this thing recently came to light where you can get your hands on anyone's aadhar details including their fingerprints for just ₹50($1). Fuck that shit.
tl;dr
There are and should be always exceptions when it comes to privacy because when you give the other person your data, it sometimes makes your life much easier. On the other hand, people/services asking for your data with the sole purpose of infilterating into your private life and not providing any usefulness should just be boycotted. It all boils down to till what extent you wish to share your data(ranging from literally installing a spying device in your house to them knowing that I want to understand how spring security works) and how much do you trust the service with your data. Example being, I just shared most of my private data in this rant with a group of unknown people and I am okay with it, because I know I can trust dev rant with my posts(unlike facebook).29 -
First rant, please take pity on the noob! 😐
Recently I've secured many of my user accounts spread throughout the internet. Using the same old password for everything is bad for security and for mental health! 😫
Since I was on the mood, I've tried to do a 'break glass' scenario, simulating an attacker that possessed my Gmail account credentials. "How bad can it be?" I've thought to myself...
... Bad. Very bad. Turns out not only I use lots of oauth based services, I also wasn't able to authenticate back to Google without my pass.
So when you get home today, try simulating what would happen if someone got to your Google or Facebook account.
Makes you consider the amount of control these big companies have over your life 😶15 -
I asked her to open her Gmail account, this is what she did.
types www...... opens Google
types G mail (yes, with uppercase g and space between g and mail)
and then clicked on gmail in search result
We never met again.

Here's a follow-up to my New Year's resolutions rant six months ago:
I've completed (or made significant strides in) 5 of my 7 resolutions:
1) Rid and keep my like free of toxic people. This includes parents.
I have had a serious conversation with everyone who made my life worse and whom I wanted to keep around, outlining my issues with them and my expectations should they want to remain in my life. I happily cut out everyone who refused to change their behavior, including my parents. My life is quieter now, and much nicer.
3) Take care of myself for a change!
I've started this, but with work, a monster, etc. it's been almost prohibitively difficult. Minimal lasting progress despite considerable effort. I will make more time for it and make it happen. (I was down 12 pounds at one point! Though this isn't just about weight.)
4) Stop putting up with things I don't have to.
If I don't like something optional, snip snip!
I no longer wait patiently (fuming) for slow-moving people. If something prevents me from being productive or going about my day, I no longer let it. Carpe diem; calcitrare culus! I have been much more productive and energetic because of this.
5) Actually enjoy things I enjoy.
Okay, this one is very difficult. Whenever I'm not working, I feel like I'm wasting my time. However, I have made a conceited effort every day to take time off and do something that sounds fun. Sometimes that's more work, but usually it's music, a game, a book, exercise, or bed. I'm still working on actually enjoying my time away from work, however, but I'm making progress!
7) Finish de-googling my life.
I no longer use a gmail account (except a work-provided account), nor do I use any of their services unless absolutely necessary (and I do so through TOR). My phone still has Google Play Services; however, I'm working on finding a replacement that I can @Root. (Suggestions welcome!)
------
The two resolutions I haven't yet addressed:
2) Find a well-paying job that isn't also toxic.
My job has gotten less toxic of late, with the boss actually listening and everyone writing up feature requests (with co-sponsors) instead of just dumping them in my lap. I perform an effort analysis on them, and everyone discusses them as a team to determine which actually deserve development time. This is tens of times better than before. I also no longer have to be at the office. In fact, I haven't been there in months -- and don't even remember the alarm codes haha. I may also be getting another developer, though I suspect this is actually a lie.
6) Finally buy a harp. I've wanted one since I was 3 ffs.
I haven't done any research yet on which harp(s) I should buy. Also, I have no idea where I would keep it, so I may defer this until we move, or just get a tiny one (lap-sized and cute!) to practice on. Probably both!
------
It's been six moths, and I'm happy with my progress. 😄9 -
Recovering a legacy Gmail account after receiving a notice of a blocked login.
*Tries to remember the bloody password*
*Actually remembers it*
> Sorry your password isn't enough. Your father's phone number that you used a decade ago can be used for verification though!
Google, let's get this straight. Things have changed. I know the fucking phone number and yes I can enter it, and out of sheer stupidity I did send an authentication code his way. Unfortunately however, things have changed in 10 years. I can instantly kill the fucker on the spot if I were to meet him ever again. Do you think that I'm going to get that fucking code?!
> Oh but you can try to email the code to the very account that you're trying to recover, despite the fact that you know the password for it.
TO THE FUCKING SAME ACCOUNT THAT I'M RECOVERING.
Must've taken a true genius to code that in!!!13 -
Sorry for being late, stuffs came inbetween!
I have done a few privacy rants/posts before but why not another one. @tahnik did one a few days ago so I thought I'd do a new one myself based on his rant.
So, online privacy. Some people say it's entirely dead, that's bullshit. It's up to an individual, though, how far they want to go as for protecting it.
I personally want to retain as much control over my data as possible (this seems to be a weird thing these days for unknown reasons...). That's why I spend quite some time/effort to take precautions, read myself into how to protect my data more and so on.
'Everyone should have the choice of what services they use' - fully agreed, no doubt about that.
I just find one thing problematic. Some services/companies handle data in a way or have certain business models which takes the control which some people want/have over their data away when you communicate with someone using that service.
Some people (like me) don't want anything to do with google but even when I want to email my best fucking friend, I lose the control over that email data since he uses gmail.
So, when someone chooses to use gmail and I *HAVE* to email them, my choice is gone.
TO BE VERY CLEAR: I'm not blaming that on the users, I'm blaming that on the company/service.
Then for example, google analytics. It's a very good/powerful when you're solely looking at its functions.
I just don't want to be part of their data collection as I don't want to get any data into the google engine.
There's a solution for that: installing an addon in order to opt out.
I'm sorry, WHAT?! --> I <-- have to install an addon in order to opt out of something that is happening on my own motherfucking computer?! What the actual fuck, I don't call that a fucking solution. I'll use Privacy Badger + hosts files to block that instead.
Google vs 'privacy' friendly search engines - I don't trust DDG completely because their backend is closed/not available to the public but I'd rather use them then a search engine which is known to be integrated into PRISM/other surveillance engines by default.
I don't mind the existence of certain services, as long as they don't integrated you with data hungry companies/mass surveillance without you even using their services.
Now lets see how fast the comment section explodes!28 -
Me: Hello, IT Support? I can't use your system because as I log in I can't bypass a form saying I must confirm my email. But I haven't received any confirmation email. Can you resend it?
Support: We can't resend it, you have to do that yourself. What's your email?
Me: it's <blahblah>.gmail.com
Support: have you checked Junk?
Me: I sure have!
Support: Then please restart your computer and the email should come
Me: ....................
Me: have a nice day7 -
Sometimes I wonder how compromised my parents online security would be without my intervention.
My mom logged into her gmail and there was an red bar on top informing about Google preventing an attempted login from an unknown device.
Like typical parents / old people, that red bar didn't caught her attention but I noticed it immediately. I took over and looked into it. It showed an IP address and a location that was quite odd.
I went ahead with the Account security review and I was shocked to find that she had set her work email address as the recovery email!!
I explained her that work email accounts cannot be trusted and IT department of the workplace can easily snoop emails and other info on that email address and should not be related to personal accounts.
After fixing that issue, me being a typical skeptic and curious guy, I decided to find more info about that IP address.
I looked up the IP address on a lookup website and it showed an ISP that was related to the corporate office of her workplace. I noticed the location Google reported also matched with the corporate office location of her work.
Prior to this event, few days ago, I had made her change her gmail account password to a more secure one. ( Her previous password was her name followed by birth date!! ). This must have sent a notification to the recovery mail address.
All these events are connected. It is very obvious that someone at corporate office goes through employees email addresses and maybe even abuse those information.
My initial skeptism of someone snooping throguh work email addresses was right.
You're welcome mom!9 -
Not letting Google (overtly) use your data has its drawbacks.
For example, lately I've been getting senior dating ads in my Gmail app.
I mean really, Google, I know you know I'm 30 and married; who's kidding who?1 -
My company compromises SSL certificates in the name of "security". I can't even use Gmail because Google has identified my intranet as a malicious network executing a man in the middle attack. So they break security in the name of security.6
-
WTF, Google?! Get your shit together!! No one wants another GUI disaster makeover which leads us from bad to worse.
Every time I log into g+ or gmail, the whole flippin GUI has changed.. OK, it might be just my taste for simplicity, but I do not think a 'better GUI' should make you feel like an ape trying to code.. :\
If people with programming skills can't use it 'out of the box' & without googling stuff like "where did you hid the new email button", how the f do other people who are IT inept supposed to use it!? OR is it just me?! If it's just me, I'll shut up and love the new GUI.. otherwise: juck!!
#itSucksToBeOnTheOtherSideOfTheCode :\9 -
Manager after google went down: Hey I don't want our project to go like google. Once one server went down, gmail went down, then youtube, then drive, and everything else with it. Could we separate all of our features into different servers so that if one thing goes down, the rest aren't affected?
NO9 -
is google fucking with me today?
today i was accepted for some google summer internship program thing. they send me a google form right? so i open it up in chromium and it doesn’t work. it doesn’t let me type in any textboxes or anything. i try to fix it and no luck. then, i copy the link to firefox and voilà, it works.
so, google forms didn’t work in chromium but did in firefox? alright. then i check off yes, send me a copy of my responses to my gmail account. and guess what? gmail classified that as SPAM. google email classified a google forms email as spam.
good work google, you’re fucking stupid.7 -
I don't get all the amazement etc people show when they find out that I don't use services like WhatsApp, Instagram, Gmail, Outlook, Google etc, why would it be 'weird' to want control over who has/owns your data? That's not being fucking paranoid, that's being conscious about who you give your data to.1
-
The new Gmail shows how redesign should not be done. Everywhere white, bright colors, no contrasts. Here rounding is smaller, there bigger, there is shadow, here not. Seriously, what I saw a few months ago at the announcements looked much better than what I see now. It's good that I'm using a desktop client, because I think I'd switch completely to Outlook.8

*on phone*
Friend: I want to add 100 contacts to gmail how do I do that?
Me: Add those in excel sheet and import it in gmail
*after 10 mins another call*
Friend: I deleted something in excel. How do I get it back
Me: Ctrl Z
*after 10 mins another call*
Friend: I added contacts to excel and emailed to you. Can you email me contacts so that I'll add to my gmail?
Me; I don't have these powers. You have to import in gmail.
*after 5 mins another call*
Friend: I uploaded contacts but I want it in on my iPhone
Me: Add gmail account to your iPhone. It will sync contacts.
Friend: I know we can do it on Android but is it possible on iPhone bcz Gmail is of Google right?
*hang up*1 -
Google collects more data than I could imagine.
So i read an article a few days ago and it absolutely blew me off. It mentioned how google collects your personal data and makes it available to you as well (just to rub it in your face I guess). E.g
1. Visit https://google.com/maps/timeline/ : Collects exactly what it says.
2. Visit https://myactivity.google.com/ :
These people collect everything on your device(at least android)!!!!! Even the time spent on home screen! WTF!!!
3. Visit https://takeout.google.com/ : To download your data archive. Ranges from Google photos to Hangouts and everything in between.
-> All the above require signing in with your gmail account.
So basically, if someone manages to get a hold of your gmail password, they have the power to know everything about you.
Aaaahhhhhhh. Ridiculous.9 -
Seems like "Google Magic" and I have a disagreement (nb: this is the 4th of Snyk auto-follow up mails and I have no idea why they speak to me in French)1
-
Google got rid of the awesome Inbox app, only to force us back on Gmail with fucking NATIVE ADS! This one really triggered me10
-
First it was the "set up WampServer so the client can use our database", to which I told her we should use an embedded database, to which she told me to do.
Then the "Just give the client a .jar file and install the JRE in his laptop" to wich I told her we can make a native installer, to which she fucking assigned to me.
Then the whole fucked up management thing with no design whatsoever and the "we don't need version control".
To just a few hours earlier, when she got mad because I set up a Slack for us to exchange information easily, she told me she was already mad because I shared the project by Google Drive and that she worked in security and knows the risk... AND AT THE SAME TIME, she uses Gmail to share the project.. BRILLIANT !7 -
Since morning, I’ve used-
Facebook, Instagram,whats app
Google search, chrome, YouTube ,Gmail
iPhone, Apple Music, Apple podcasts
Netflix
Amazon video, kindle
Can’t believe how much our lives revolve around these giants! -
So I'm planning on ditching Google Play Store. Last step in my anti-Google action (apart from completely cleaning my old Gmail accounts)! I'm barely using it anymore anyways.
Only thing is, I need to find an alternative market. Not an easy journey :)7 -
Getting real tired of your crap, Google. How can I be a technology worker in a world where I have to help clients who use your services without destroying my own privacy in the process? If I tried to live off the grid and keep my profession, it would be like an Amish person doing IT by writing code, etc. on paper with a pen and giving it to someone else to type into a computer.
https://cnbc.com/2019/07/...5 -
I made a New Year's Resolution to take more of an interest in my Internet privacy. Feel like it's something I should have done a long time ago. I've stopped using Google search (DuckDuckGo instead), moved away from my Gmail account (Tutanota instead) and stopped using Chrome (Firefox/Firefox Focus instead). I've had my Gmail account since they first announced it and you could only sign up if someone invited you. It felt good to delete 7000 emails and what I estimate must have been 13-14 years of Google/YouTube searches. Currently experimenting with VPNs, considering paying for ProtonVPN soon.9
-
I got an email from a seemingly random gmail address with 'essential!' written in the title.
Turns out that this was my university trying to contact me. They expect me to send my full name, university and other personal information directly over a Google survey in an email from an address I don't recognise with an unprofessional subject.
Safe to say, I didn't fill that one in.4 -
I swear to god if I made a website twice as good as Google my friends would still use Gmail to piss me off2
-
What the fuck is wrong with Google?!!
Trying to log into Gmail.
Forgot password.
Gmail: To reset, code from authenticator app is required.
Me: Super. Good thing I set it up.
Enters code.
Gmail: Recovery email.
Me : Uh... Forgot that too.
Gmail: Some email address to communicate.
Me: Super!
Enters some other email address.
Receives mail with a link.
Me: Finally!
Opens link
Gmail: "When did you create your account?"
Me: Uh... If I had that kind of memory, we wouldn't be dancing right now.
.
.
.
Gmail: Sorry we couldn't verify you.
WHAT THE FUCK, GOOGLE?!
What sort of sadist play is this?!
Dropped them a mail to get access back. Got a link in the auto reply that explains how to repeat the above process. WTF?!
What the actual fuck?!10 -
Yes, a plus, i.e. `+`, is a fucking valid char for an email address.
Your online service is shit, you don't know your craft, and you should feel bad about yourself!
But you thought email is fucking simple, google for email validation regex and took copy pasted the first fucking find from some random blog that validates anything but an actual fucking valid email addresses, didn't you!?
(Funfact, the plus sign allow to create email aliases in some free mailer services. GMail for instance. That's why I l like using emails like my.actual.mail+I_KNOW_WHY_YOU_ARE_SENDING_SPAM@gmail.com as my registration email. Also, brute-force that login email.)3 -

Fuck you google!!
Let me send a mail to my shitty internet service provider with abusive words as much as possible.
Fucking gmail rejecting my message as spam by content filtering.6 -
That moment when google ranks gmail with a low speed score... oofff...

It is ridiculous that google search does not have dark theme. But, other google products like youtube, gmail, keep have...15

As you problably know, Gmail sends mails to you when you create a new gmail account. These mails are about what you can do gmail etc.
But they send 3 mails! Why? Wouldnt it just be easier to send one and have a table of contents.
Sending one mail containing all info also takes less space in the list of mails you get.
Stupid google9 -
Google has set gmail receiving capacity to 50mb but sending capacity to 25mb.why is this? And what is the use of this?2
-
For some reason GMail removes the Inbox label to some mails (usually receipts or communications from shopping sites) so sometimes I miss important mail and not realise until days later when I go "why the fuck is there no update?" I removed all filters and disconnected all services from accessing Gmail
Does anyone else have this issue?
So anyway... Finally got pissed of enough to build an IMAP program that looks are all Unread emails (with no labels) in All Mail and then moved them to the Inbox.
Part of me is wondering is this a test? Does Google like pissing me off to see what I'll do about it? -
Privacy nightmare!
So i had bought a second hand iPhone and it seemed the phone was reset as it had only the default apps.
But as soon as I downloaded Google Chrome on to it, things started to get weird. When i opened the newly downloaded Google Chrome app, it showed someone else's Google account already logged in Chrome. I went to the Chrome settings and the account section gave me full control over this person's Google account.
Not wanting any trouble, i didn't go further and removed that account from the browser.
I then logged in to Google Chrome via one of my "project specific" google account i had created months ago and it added fine. But guess what I found when checking out safari browser.
Safari has somehow synced bookmarks from my main & personal Google account!!
I'm just stunned. I didn't even provide gmail id of my personal Google account and safari somehow was able to get bookmarks from it.
I'm kind of scared now. 😵3 -

A woman working at this Switzerland company emailed me asking if im interested for investors to invest in my software project. Her job is to find projects and connect the founders to investors.
Red flag 1:
Their website is absolute shit
Red flag 2:
A Switzerland based company and you can't see pictures of any of them on the website
Red flag 3:
"Lynda Marly" is her name, but she isn't listed in the team of that company shes working for?
Red flag 4:
Who the fuck uses such a corny and goofy ass gmail name "linda1478ab@gmail.com" with random numbers for professional work?
Red flag 5:
Her name is Lynda, but her gmail name is Linda?
Red flag 6:
She emailed me from lyndamarly@mail.com (not gmail), but now scheduled a google meets link via the second email (goofy gmail one), why have several emails for professional work?
Red flag 7:
Her linkedin has 0 working record history of anything -- as if she created the account just now because i asked to see it -- is it a fake account then?
Red flag 8:
She scheduled the meeting with some Similoluwa Afolabi guy from Nigeria -- a Nigerian guy for a Switzerland investment-based company?
Red flag 9:
I googled their company and cannot find 1 single record, LLC or business registry under that shitty company name
Is this one of those nigerian scams?14 -
TLDR;
I remissness about Yahoo site builder and talk about finding the record of the Google search that changed my life a long time ago and I think it's fucking great.
Earlier I re-installed google chrome but unlike every other time, this time I forgot to turn off the auto-sync feature. I only realized this when I opened gmail and it pre-populated my login info with the info of my very first, long forgotten gmail account.
So naturally I went exploring... after going through the mails I decided to check out the actual Google account to see if there was anything of interest there and lo and behold I found around 7 years of browsing history that I had no idea Google stored at the time.
As scary as it was to see I'm kinda glad about it now because aside from finding out that I was going through an Asian porn phase in 2008 I also found the one Google search record that changed my life.
It was a search to download Yahoo site builder followed by a bunch more on how to use it.
I had stumbled across a random article about it and it caught my eye because I needed a website for the grocery store I was a manager of back then.
Thankfully it was a fucking horrible WYSIWYG editor. I recall it acting almost identical to Word at the time - I would save and back up my site constantly because moving something 1px would fuck the layout up and burn everything to the ground, cntrl+z would try and do something, reversing only my last action while leaving the rest of the site in tatters and I didn't have the skills to understand or fix it...
Ultimately my frustration led me learn a bit of html & css and a week or so later It became apparent it would be easier to scratch code the damn thing so I uninstalled Yahoo site builder and started all over again.
Learning & building that site in notepad ignited my passion for coding and less than a year later I left my shitty dead end job to join a brand new tech company created with the help of a like minded investor officially employed as a developer. Let help you understand just how big this achievement was for me - I had been trying to find a job, ANY job in I.T even at a call center level without success for 6 years because I dropped out of school.
In 6 years as an active job seeker I only received one phone call about a job opportunity which ended very quickly once they realised they had misread my CV. In all those years I never even got a single job interview.
After that I spent the next 3 years rolling out and improving the cloud based loyalty card system I had written for my store out on a national scale and the rest is history. Since then I have never been judged by a crappy piece of paper, hated my job or struggled to find a new one.
What a beautiful search result that was to find.
I dedicate this rant to Yahoo, with my sincere gratitude for making a shitty WYSIWYG editor that was so bad it pissed me off enough to make me actually learn something.2 -
Back in the days when I knew only Windows, I used to be a Microsoft fan. I wanted to use only Microsoft products. I had a Hotmail email account that Microsoft acquired. I used a version of Windows and Microsoft Office (even though I didn't know at the time that it was pirated). I wanted to be a Microsoft Student Partner (MSP) and promote Microsoft everywhere.
Fast forward to now (or maybe to the time after I got introduced to GNU/Linux), I started hating Microsoft solely for the reason that they had a price-tag on everything. Later on, when I got to open-source software, I hated Microsoft for making all of their software closed-source. When I decided to move out of the Microsoft environment, my next favorite was of course, Big Brother (Google, if you haven't gotten it) - Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive. My personal information was the price to pay for the services even though I wasn't OK with that fact.
Then again, I realized that you could actually have your own stuff if you had the know-how. Compile / host your own software on your own systems. Oh, then I went on a compile spree. That's when I realized I didn't need any of these corporations to own my data. Today, I try my best to keep my data in my control and not some corporations who gives me free stuff for the price of my data and personal information, no thanks.3 -
google has crammed so many things in Gmail that,
I think they will port an entire OS in the future.

I took Database System Class and Courses in University, and told to store the password using its hash and don't store it in plain text; it is at least a standard.
today i just resetting my gmail password since i forgot the password. and i wonder by how google forgot password mechanism work.
for example i register the password with:
'xxxfalconxxx'
and then change it to:
'youarebaboon123'
sometimes later i forgot both password, and google asked for the last password i remember; and i only remember part of it so i entered:
'falcon'
and this is right, so i can continue the forgot password mechanism. how could you check the hashed text of 'falcon' is the subset of hash text 'xxxfalconxxx' ?2 -
I like how google is trying to catch up in the competition of video calls, and chat...
I have a Gmail account & work email is on Google G-Suit, every time I access one of them that Google meet popup shows in a desperate attempt to make people use it ....14 -
Google is giving Google home for adding action on console without even checking that if it is the same questions that had been submitted by other user
I made 6 Gmail account and created same flash quiz and got 6 Google home and T shirts which cost about 49000 Indian rupees
So why is Google spending too much on just an action?5 -
I wonder...
On a global scale, how much of Google's storage space is being consumed by unread JIRA emails.3 -
Looking for ideas here...
OK, customer runs a manufacturing business. A local web developer solicits them, convinces them to let him move their website onto his system.
He then promptly disappears. No phone calls, no e-mail, no anything for 3 months by the time they called me looking to fix things.
Since we have no access to FTP or anything except the OpenCart admin, we agree to a basic rebuild of the website and a redeployment onto a SiteGround account that they control. Dev process goes smoothly, customer is happy.
Come time to launch and...naturally, the previous dev pointed the nameservers to his account, which will not allow the business to make changes because they aren't the account owner.
"We can work around this," I figure, since all we *really* need to do is change the A records, and we can leave the e-mail set up as it is (hopefully).
Well, that hopefully is kind of true—turns out instead of being set up in GoDaddy (where the domain is registered) it's set up in Gmail—and the customer doesn't know which account is the Google admin account associated with the domain. For all we know it could be the previous developer—again.
I've been able to dig up the A, MX, and TXT records, and I'm seeing references to dreamhost.com (where the nameservers are at) in the SPF data in the TXT records. Am I going to have to update these records, or will it be safe to just leave them as they are and simply update the A record as originally planned?6 -

google customer support wrote that they fixed issue but what they did is they removed all of my data and kept me locked from my workplace account despite being owner of domain
I don’t think they are able to fix it.
They probably broke law at this point because they wiped my products from extension store without writing email about it.
I think I will be opening new ticket from time to time to see if I’m talking with a robot or a human being.
Well turns out in today’s world corporate can delete your business and just don’t care. I am lucky I migrated email from them.
I don’t think they know that my email is not on gmail, they presume everyone is using only their services and they own them.
Man that would be my worst nightmare if I got my email locked when I’m low on money.

Google Inbox is starting to be more and more laggy, unresponsive and slow. And they just don't care. Sometimes I'm like clicking fucking 10 times on a thread until it opens.
Also going back to Gmail is not an option as the current version also looks like a Frankenstein's monster with a mix of different designs from material design and something else.1 -
Yeah, I'll probably have a google, Facebook or wikipedia account instead of a Gmail one. What's wrong with you Samsung?

A contact of mine asked me to try and recover emails she had deleted from her gmail. I told her if this is the case, I cannot help and she needed to contact google.
Unfortunately, she wouldn't accept this and kept asking me to try, so I reluctantly gave it a shot.
As I thought there was nothing I could do.
I am now half expecting her to ask me to try and access googles backups.

How did Google become such a piece of shit of a company?
Every google product is just broken and annoying as fuck!
YouTube, Gmail, Google Drive, they are driving me insane!
Oh and Android. Don’t forget about Android. But Android is probably still ok compared to their other shit.7 -
As soon as customers keep criticizing google misfeatures, the support discussion gets "locked and replying has been disabled."
Sad and poor assholedesign. Lucky for them that Miscrosoft somehow manage to release even worse "productivity" software bullshit. -
Question, how would you build the ultimate "I don't want to be dependent on Google or Facebooks services" setup?
IE, not using Gmail for e-mail, not using Google maps for, well, maps. Etc.
Im realy curious to see how the ultimate open source/not dependent on any big corporation harvesting userdata, ecosystem would look like. :)9 -
So one of our teacher gets a mail from her personal email id on her college id, saying, "Hi this is me". Goes to google and searches, " Hi this is me mail on gmail".
*face palm*
Fatuity is unreal. -
TLDR
Apparently if you delete your google account as an only admin of a workplace by just clicking remove account on expired subscription screen when you are on document page you not only loose access to google workplace but also you can create new workplace google account using same domain and email immediately and it’s fresh google domain account without domain verification and with everything wiped off from your old account. So you don’t have access to anything but on the other side there is possibility to use gmail as spam hub if google fucked ip something in their dns verification and once verified and after that expired domain gets bought again it stays verified.
Well I luckily migrated my gmail to other provider 3 years ago and I lost nothing important there but lol.
You can easily lock out yourself from your domain.
I opened ticket using some questionnaire and by adding another dns txt record to my domain to claim access to workplace admin page and let’s see what they do.
If they ever respond to that ticket and how long it will take to get it resolved.
This is good test to see if google is still a people’s company or an evil corporation.
I was using workplace as long as it was free from days of google app engine and begging of cloud revolution. I remember at best times I could chat with google support employee about spam I got from domain registered on google servers and he was processing ticket for me.2 -
It's lovely when your corporate application starts having problems sending mail through google, so you fallback to your onsite mail server, only to learn it is nothing more than a pass through to your gmail account.
Not only that, but it isn't secured at all, so spam bots have been sending millions of spam emails through it, leading to your google account being blacklisted which caused the email problems in the first place. Yay!2 -
Over the last week I've slowly grown to fucking hate IMAP and SMTP. You'd think after so many years we'd have come up with better servers to manage email but no we still rely on fucking decades old protocols that can't even batch requests.
To make things worse I need to attach to IMAP through node and that has been a nightmare. All the libraries suck ass and even the ones tailored towards Gmail don't work for Gmail because Google decided one day to fucking out the header at the bottom of some emails and split into mimeparts. Also why the fuck is fetching email asynchronous? There's no point at all since we requests are processed line by line in IMAP, and if the library actually supported sending asynchronous requests it wouldn't require a new object to be created for each request and allow only a single listener.
Also callbacks are antiquated for a while and it pisses me off that node hasn't updated their libraries i.e. TLS to support async/await. I've taken to "return await new Promise" where the resolve of the promise is passed as the callback, which let's me go from callback to promise to async/await. If anyone has any other ideas I'm all ears otherwise I might just rewrite their TLS library altogether...
And this is just IMAP. I wish browsers supported TLS sockets because I can already see a server struggling with several endpoints and users, it would be much easier to open a connection from the client since the relationship is essentially:
Client [N] --- [1] Server [1] --- [1] IMAP
And to make the legs of that N : N which would fix a lot of issues, I would have to open a new IMAP connection for every client, which is cool cause it could be serverless, but horrifying because that's so inefficient.
Honestly we need a new, unifying email protocol with modern paradigms...8 -
I once had a team member who was a self proclaimed technology expert. He was even interviewed on national TV for his opinions on telecoms, net neutrality and the ITC sector in our humble island.
this guy, for several months, probably to this day, cannot figure out how to set his password for his company Gmail account. he could never figure how to use Google drive, docs or any of the most basic tools.
he has no training in any development practices or languages. he did history in college and didn't even finish, but.....somehow he was able to watch half of an HTML tutorial online and then land himself a remote web dev job earning $45 USD/hr!!!!! i still dont know how he did that.
I'm am three parts upset, one part in awe of how far he has gotten just by talking to people.4 -
Let someone make Google aware of what it means to integrate services. Why does the Gmail calendar not show all the events, only those added from the Gmail level? After all, this makes the additive completely useless.

After reading through an article by EFF about Google's new FLoC technology, I finally woke up and realized that Google isn't any different from the other huge organizations, and that it isn't here to fight for greater user privacy and rights... As such, I made a switch, going from Google to DuckDuckGo.
Sure, I still use YT, but other than that, I don't have a gmail address that'd be of importance, don't use their search engine, and now...
Got any tips on how to minimize tracking potential of an android-based rooted smartphone? (Stock rom, Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro). I know using a custom rom is an option, however, Lineage isn't officially supported for this model of phone, and I still value functionality over anything else, so... Unofficial daily drive OS is sub-optimal.
Alternative hardware solutions like PinePhone, although nice in theory, are way too behind the commercial brands in terms of technology and features, so that's a no go.5 -
So Google create inbox, a pretty good email client with nice interface and features, it works really well and has people using it. Why the fuck they decide to close a working thing? Gmail is a big piece of shit, the interface is awful, can't group mails correctly and lacks a lot of inbox functions.
They can't at least give you an inbox-like Gmail view?4 -
What's the point of the Gmail API if you can do all of its functions with IMAP or POP3 and not have to have user login oauth, just account and password?
I wanted to read a company email account for certain emails related to our tickets. No one actually accesses this account, and the tool is without a GUI. As such, I can't use the Gmail API. I just remembered there must be a more ordinary way to do this because how does Outlook and other email software work? So python import imaplib and I was done in a few minutes. -
My life at the moment is summed up quite well by https://xkcd.com/1586/ . My phone completely died and wouldn't boot in the first week of my five week holiday. When I get home and try to restore it, the computer with the backup fails to boot. I go and try a different computer, wait an hour or so for iTunes to update and Windows decides to update too. I try to update the phone so that it keeps it's data but no, it needs a full reset. I lose all the stuff on there: contacts, photos, texts, 2FA codes. Let's hope I have the emergency codes somewhere. I can't install gmail or google drive because I don't have ios 10 because it doesn't work on an iPhone 4S. The only advantage of this is that it removed obsolete apps that I never used. Which device will fail me next!1

Hello, instead of my usual nihilistic fuckery, I actually have a question that you guys may be able to answer.
When uploading images in Chrome this morning I got the two prompts pictured below. One is in google voice, the other is in gmail. I searched online for answers but oddly enough there is nothing satisfactory.
The promp is 'upload failed server rejected.' This problem goes back as far as 2012, but today it happened to me for the first time. Thank you3 -
I needed to send feedback through email, so I use thunderbird as my default email client, and as soon as I hit the send button, the message failed to send, where then I’m prompted to login to my gmail account on my computer.
Hey google, go fuck yourself. Gmail on computer is a fucking piece of trash. If you had not shut down inbox just yet, then I would use that. Gmail takes like over 40 seconds to load on my computer, which is why I use thunderbird because of that. I refuse to use your horrible piece of trash website and now you want me to login again. Seriously just fuck you.
Also, I’ve been getting Chinese spam in my main inbox rather than in the spam folder ever since this COVID/coronavirus shit started. Know any better choices? I would like something that is free, as long as they don’t have an affiliation and/or partnership with google.2 -
I don't want to use Google for everything anymore. Do any of you know of good alternatives to GMail?5
-
why google???? I mean how hard for them to update a reference document. The reference of gmail api for python2 and python2 is in EOL. The first error I found for python3 is reported in 2015 on GitHub and now is 2019. I mean, seriously the bigB_Company don't have time to update their document. I scratched my head for an hour, what the fuck did goes wrong.

Help please!
Despite having good speed, any website/app on my phone (other than Google, Youtube, Gmail, Instagram etc..) are either not opening or loading very slow.
Due to this I can't get my work done because I use my phone's internet to work on laptop.
Can't find any solution online because most people are giving solution for desktop and wifi router.
This happened after I changed my ISP. Previous ISP was working fine and now I'm regretting it.5 -
Why is the gmail app showing up in the infobar when it is just searching for new mails...
Everytime I am waiting for an important mail and see the icon.. but nooo just refreshing. I really don't need that information google, thanks. -
Has anybody else had problems with gmail? It seems that some of my emails are not being received, even though it says they have been sent.
