Three days ago I wrote a comment:
"It's weird how the internet shifted from protocols to platforms.
Devs still know the plumbing, but for most people IRC became Whatsapp, FTP became Dropbox, RTSP became Netflix, SIP became Zoom and RSS became Google Now... so people might eventually forget about SMTP and this whole "email" hype.
In a decade or two we'll have forgotten about URLs and HTTP and the "internet" as well. You just pay your monthly $10 sub to Google or Amazon or Apple to have your condensed streams of memes & bait funneled right into your eyeballs."
And now Chrome devs are considering removing URLs just like in Safari, just showing the domain you are on....
Enjoy your retard web, people.
What's next, new Macbook & Chromebook standardized designs to prevent people from being confused?43 -
Family reaction story to me being a dev?
- My dad still refers to my profession as 'something in computers'.
- My older sister goes to her weirdo friends for technical advice because she thinks all I do is fill paper in printers (that's a long TL;DR story about a phone upgrade)
- My brother, a car mechanical genius thinks what I do is near God-like. He also races cars and can blabber on about the physics, aero-dynamics, weight ratios, etc and says "Oh, no way. I'm too stupid to do what you do." Then I'm like, "Dude, shut up, I can barely change my oil and you could replace an engine blindfolded", then he just laughs "Yea, probably."
- Baby sister just wants me to fix her phone. "Can you make <insert some random app> do <insert a random behavior the app was never designed to do>?". I'm like "Uh no, I didn't write Instagram", then she's like "I thought you went to school for computers?".
- My mom passed way (long battle with cancer). I'm sure she'd be proud, but still asking me to how to switch the channel so she could watch a movie on the VCR.
I can clearly see having this conversation with my mom.
Me: "Mom, why are you still using a VCR? I bought you a subscription to Netflix"
Mom: "Net what? Do I turn the dial to channel 2 or 3?"
Me: "No, its the Netflix button on the remote."
Mom: "Can't you come over and do this? I just want to watch my shows. Didn't you go to school to learn these things?"
Me: "No mom, that's not...um...never mind. I'll be right over."17 -
Today is the end.
No WiFi.
No Computer.
No Netflix.
No Spotify.
For 3 fucking months.
Fucking summer.24 -
Watching Netflix alone when gf asks if she can join, or preferrably inner join.
I love this girl to death 😍7 -
A year ago I would have said:
"Because I love solving logic puzzles, there's no greater joy than finding a very simple, elegant translation of a user's requirements into code"
Then 2020 came. I'm SO FUCKING FED UP with coworkers and managers who miss all the required competence to organize and communicate about projects as they are fundamentally incompatible with the concept of working from home.
I'm quite sure I'm the last one to give up at my work.
The company chat has completely died down. I've tried setting up meetings, but even my bosses show up irregularly, confused about why I'm calling them in the middle of their Netflix marathon.
So if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. My answer is now:
"I'm a developer because I get nearly 6 figures, for going through my Steam Library while completely shitfaced at 11AM. When I sober up in the afternoon, I work on some hobby projects. I get to spend 500/m on ordering sandwiches"8 -

Step 0: Feel incompetent with coding skills
Step 1: Try to practice by writing programs or learning new software, etc...
Step 2: Lose motivation and watch Netflix
Step 3: repeat9 -
When I'm at work, can't wait to go home and work on my personal projects.
When I'm home I cook, I eat then I'm too tired to do anything except watching Netflix on the couch.
Then I go to bed frustrated for not having actually done anything I really like.
Am I the only one?
Is there any escape from this?17 -
“I don’t have time for the gym!”
But you have time for Netflix.
“I can’t afford to eat healthy!”
But you have time to eat out.
“I don’t have the money to invest!”
But you have money to spend on booze/cigarettes.
The problem isn’t your circumstances - the problem is just you.13 -
So this happened to me today.
After spending the whole night coding / watching Netflix I was sitting in my chair and looking at my screen with VSCode (dark theme of course) open. It was pretty dark in my room because the only source of light was my computer screen, which was still pretty dark because of the dark theme.
So, while looking at my code I suddenly noticed that the room had gotten a bit brighter. I wondered wtf was going on.
I looked out the window and saw that the sun was rising. Then I looked at the clock:
5:30 am.
Me: 'oh, lol'14 -
I finally subscribe to Netflix and am proud of myself for finally watching shows legally.
I search for Arrested Development.
Oh, guess what, it's not available in my country (Lebanon). Gotta set up a vpn now but all I wanted was a nice funny show. I want my $12 back.12 -
So Facebook provided unlimited data access to loads of companies including spotify/microsoft and other big names.
Although there are privacy rules, those companies had deals which excluded them from these privacy rules.
I don't think my custom DNS server or a pihole is enough anymore, let's firewall block all Facebook's fucking ip ranges.

Dear son: when I ask you to stop using Netflix because I need all the network juice for a work-related call, please do close it or play a downloaded movie. Don't just turn the volume off...4
-
Me: So, I need stay focus on my open source projects to get some GitHub stars...
Five minutes later ...
Me: oh look new movies on Netflix !
Daaaamn !!!1 -
Sometimes I feel I'm the live version of stack overflow for my family and friends...
Mom: The printer is acting up, how do I fix it?
Brother: I can't login to Netflix, help!
Grandparents: could you fix the radio/TV?
Gf: Apple can't validate my .uk mail
All to which I replied with the answer to life, the universe and everything...
FUCKING GOOGLE IT! Have you googled it?!
And the inevitable reply: no.
The only ones who get a free pass are my grandparents they were born in the 40's and think YouTube works on voodoo.7 -

4 week summer vacation over. Did not code any sideprojects and opened laptop only to watch netflix on vacation (Stranger Things ❤️). My liver will be pleased that its over. Tomorrow back to work, hopefully I remember how to code again 😜9

We are forced to work from home until further notice . i am hating every second of it. Being home and not gaming or binging on anime / netflix feels like a punishment. im more productive in the office.15

As it turend out, just after ranting about increasing my online security, I had an unapproved sign-in from Russia into my Netflix account about an 3h ago.6

Me: *Demoed my search API which supports multiple database implementations at the backend*
My Manager: Great!! Is the API independent of DB? Can you plug this API to any DB?
Me: Yes
My Manager: How can user specific DB at runtime?
Me: Why will user be interested in the DB used at the backend? He will just query the API for data.
My Manager: Let's just assume he wants to select a database at runtime.
Me: While searching a movie on Netflix, do you specific from which DB you wanna stream the movie?
My Manager: *Confused and pissed*7 -
Professional deformation is when you accidentally type "node" instead of "Netflix" in the browser's address bar. And don't get disappointed.1
-
A friend (also a colleague) of mine had hacked the password of his manager's Netflix account 😆
Well, can't call it as "hacking" in 2018 when you can sneak into an idle laptop and view stored passwords in Chrome.
Now this Netflix account works as a "charitable trust" and more than 30 people are aware of the password 😆18 -
My parents are real sticklers for who is allowed to be on Netflix. They only let people on when they are present, and they never click 'save password'.
Me being a poor college student and desperate for the Netflix password, created a fake website for one of my parents to sign into.
How did I do this? I created my own localhost server with a backend database for the password to go to. I then copied the Netflix home screen and log in and asked them to log me into their account.
They said I can be on for one hour, and then they were signing me out.
I agreed to these terms.
As a small twist, I had also copied the no internet tab from Chrome for the page to redirect to. Knowing that once they logged in they would be expecting the main UI.
They logged in and then waited for the page to load. I, of course, put in a delay for the page to load and then displayed the no internet tab. They were confused and asked me to refresh, still nothing. I asked them if the router was out, and they went to check.
While they were away I quickly switched back to the real Netflix website and yelled back saying I got it working again. They came back over and saw that it was asking for a password again. They signed in and saw the main homepage and none were the wiser that day.
Once they left I checked inside the DB and found the plaintext password they typed in... The damn password was so simple, I cursed myself for not having figured it out sooner. No matter, I had my parents Netflix password.
So you're probably wondering how they didn't see the URL above and think something was off?
I pressed F11 and fullscreened my entire browser. They did ask, and I simply replied with, I don't like seeing all the crap up above when I'm streaming. No further questions, perhaps I was lucky.14 -
When you redirect every movie link to XXX links on your rip-off netflix school project and nobody suspects a thing17

MOTHERFUCK. FUCKING WINDOWS DID IT AGAIN TABARNAK!
Today, I was hoping to study some DB optimization for an exam tomorrow. How foolish of me to think that MOTHERFUCKING FUCKTARD WINDOWS WOULD NOT CHOOSE THIS EXACT MOMENT TO INSTALL THE FUCKING ANNIVERSARY UPDATE. Because it di. It took 2 hours to insert it's fucking update in my ass. FUCK.
I don't know why devs would choose to work for the devil, but for those who did create this update system, I HOPE YOU STEP ON LEGO BRICKS AND THAT YOUR AUDIO IS ALWAYS OUT OF SYNC WITH YOU VIDEO ON NETFLIX.6 -

What I really like about all these growing startups/platforms like airbnb, netflix etc, is that they open source their cool technologies so that anybody can use them. If you look through their github repos, you can find a lot of cool and interesting stuff and especially it's mostly already battle tested and it works.
Imo this is some really big contribution in turn to the money they make :)2 -
Someone forgot to disable escaping in the footer on Netflix :P

I regretfully procrastinated the entire week so now I must suffer with my projects.
Both programming and non programming related.
I blame the fact I was distracted with Netflix, books, google docs, and devRant.
Well... Time to drink some coffee, even though I'm a coffee hater. The caffine in tea has no influence on me, so nasty coffee it is.17 -
Netflix, why is your loading spinner so horrible!
Do you know what a percentage is??? 99% means you are ALMOST done. Just a tiny fraction to go. I should not see 99% for seconds or even minutes on end. Much less after the first 98% took only a couple seconds!!
Stop the lies!!!5 -
less than a month left until a 365-days-long uptime of my laptop
Didn't notice the low-battery light glowing amber while watching Netflix

This is the problem with big media, they overplay all the news and buzz words. Like wtf why is there a fucking robot. And you don't need an ai to stop people from sharing passwords14

Watched 5 minutes of the worst movie ever made on netflix.

Dudes! I've been enjoying your rants for a while now, lurking in shadows., I've been relating to your stories especially on domestics fligjts, during commutes or when I'm just fucking bored, even over Netflix. Please show me some love so I'm able to show my face as an avatar :)6 -
The last several weeks I've been coding at 100%, most all day and well into the night. Today, I just can't.
Things I have done today:
*Watched Netflix.
*Walked around outside a bit.
*Let my 18 month old daughter type all over my code
* Closed mysterious dialogs and menus daughter opened up that I couldn't open if I tried
*Watched the Mets score 10 runs on the Phillies in the top of the 5th inning
*Browsed devRant
*Stared at stuff
* Cleaned up a few thousand emails out of my inbox
* Added filters to never see them again
* Noted impending deadlines on the calendar
* Stared at more stuff
In the meantime so many more ideas have come flooding in on how to proceed with these various features I'm working on. Can't even run from work.
So, no such thing as laziness, because apparent laziness is also productive. The exhaustion becomes doubly frustrating because there's just no way to physically keep up with the breakthroughs.
I'm still just staring out the window. It's raining now. Today is done.7 -
Suddenly some some strange noice from the kitchen... Hmm my wife's laptop sounds like it plays some TV series but no one is logged in.
Conclusion: windows update restarted her computer while it was paused on Netflix, after reboot chrome opens to latest url where it autoplays trailers.
Conundrum resolved.3 -
As a person who spends 99.99% of his time at home if not at school programming, reading, and watching netflix, what can I do to develop my social skills?36
-
Not commenting enough, using if instead of switch, messing (and breaking) the IDE, not reading pop up messages, thinking and not doing, watching Netflix, starting on new projects before finishing old ones, complaining about certain languages, googling instead of figuring it for myself (sometimes), let my friends persuade me into making something for them, run-on sentences, not enough comments, giving up quickly, not doing adequate research, and of course, not writing down good ideas I have.9

When someone says that Node.js cannot become enterprise standard like Java. Bitch what the fuck is Netflix, Yahoo, WalMart and PayPal using. Fuck you!17

I can't take any more CRUD.
That's it.
It seems all I do every day is CRUD, CRUD and more CRUD.
It's easy, it's fast, but fuck me... Give me at least some data manipulation to do, SOMETHING where I actually need to enable my mind, and not just "write code while watching netflix".17 -
Let's work on my my side project after work.
Oh, a cold beer
Oh, Netflix
Oh, it's past dinner time.

Things you don't want to see at night

Green line is temperature, blue humidity. Temperature rises at ~1°/10min, but seems to flatten just now. ~0.6°C to go and I'll have to head out. I'm thinking one of the ACs failed, but states are fine. Never trust a single information source for critical infrastructure guys15 -
Dear ISP,
Thank your for throttling my internet right in the middle of a hurricane! Now not only does Netflix not work and GitHub take forever, but I can't even get live weather updates. Time to code using cave paintings I guess till the power goes out.3 -
Here's what being in a rut is like:
You wake up to the alarm, you waste an hour or two in bed stalling browsing social shit. Finally got out of bed. You have a todo list. You ignore it. Get something to eat. Open Netflix or some brain numbing shit while having breakfast. A few hours go by, you're still watching Netflix and switching to browsing social shit in-between so your brain is numb as much as possible. It's lunch time, you're supposed to cook something, nah, I will order something. Oh, it's bedtime, let's make a todo list and go to bed and start over tomorrow...5 -
- be me
- get home hook laptop up to tv, realise you left your wireless mouse at work *fuck*
- remember you still have a wireless keyboard and are pretty handy with shortcuts *duh*
- use keyboard magic, launch Netflix and play the show you want to watch *yay 🎉*
- realise the fucking cursor is over the play bar so you have to get up anyway. *fuck*
These days keyboard shortcuts can only take you so far.6 -
Yesterday someone from my class asked me if I could hack a netflix account for him because his one-month trial will be over soon.
I have nothing more to say.8 -
This is the code to hack into a GPS-Navigation. Taken from the Netflix-series "Designated Survivor".8

What the fuck is this?
I'm so confused...
Where is the Netflix app? Is this real life?
Please help me.17 -
Watching Limitless on Netflix and I just love the "hacker" code animation loops with multiple terminals open going on in the background xD5

The one who made the preferences on the Netflix App for Apple TV deserves a medal. I clicked on the Preferences option in the sidebar to explore the preferences. But the only two options in the so called preferences where to log out or to go back. Well, that was an incredible waste of 10 seconds.1

Anyone else really struggle with motivation?
Time was back when I was a fresh dev that I couldn’t stop coding, it’s all I ever wanted to do.
I think doing it for a job has sucked the fun out of it, and unless I’m getting paid (and even then), I find actually getting down to it is really difficult.
I’ll start looking into making something, perhaps get as far as opening the IDE and then just nope’ing and bingeing YouTube / gaming / Netflix instead.6 -
You know your a dev when quality time with the kids is sitting them on your lap and letting them watch Netflix on one monitor while you program on the other.2
-
On a completely unrelated note......Love Death and Robots is on Netflix and shit is sooo good it ain't funny.
10/10 would recommend.5 -

Neighbouring nursing student asked me to recommend her a good laptop. I take a look at her existing one and it's an ultra book in pretty much decent condition. I ask her what her issue with this one is and turns out there's not enough space on the hard disk (30 GB SSD). I advice her to consider upgrading instead of buying a new laptop and she agrees. She also asks me if I can fix the track par of the laptop as it's not working. I take a look at the system tray and then work my computer science magic (press the fn+F9 to activate the trackpad) and boom! It's a miracle and she's squealing with delight. I even ran a disk cleanup and wiped 3Gigs of space so that she could continue downloading the episode from Netflix.
I hear a lot of you people complain about being asked to do outrageous tech shit because you're a computer person but man, I sure love being the "tech guy". :D16 -
So about a month ago I started this project for myself and decided I would work on it almost everyday, even if it was just for 30 minutes!
But when I get home I'm always so tired all I can do is sit, almost brain dead and watch something (youtube, netflix, whatever).
Anyway, haven't touched it since that first week.12 -
For more than 20 years Google and Mozilla becoming our lifeline ❤️thank you @google @mozilla

Issue:
Facebook is now meta. We now need a new acronym to replace FAANG.
Proposed solution:
Let’s remove Netflix. There are a dozen other streaming services in the mix, they’re not innovating over competition, they’re also worth the least in faang etc.
Bring back Microsoft to the acronym. Controversial, of course but it makes sense as the ms we see today bears little resemblance to what it was 15 years ago. With ms + meta in the acronym we therefore name is GAMMA
Open to other alternatives, so leave a comment if you have one.27 -
Hmm, I find it highly peculiar that I let a friend borrow my pc to watch stranger things on Netflix, with her account.
I signed her into the guest account, she picked Google Chrome (not signed in).
Now my Facebook feed and YouTube adds are all about stranger things..
I get the ip gets logged & mapped.. But srsly.5 -

How does your Work from Home look like?🧐9 -
When I think how big companies like Google, Amazon, Netflix manage all their services so well (all those load balancings, caching, etc. ), I feel so bad I don't know anything about it. I don't even know how people decide which technology to use. E.g., for a scalable Web app, one can use Node.js or maybe Django (but not definitely Flask, I suppose). Also, which DBMS to use, how to write flawless APIs. You see, I am just beginning my career. Any recommendations (books, videos, etc.) that teach these things? Please help.4

What you're refering to as "News" is in fact "GNU/News", or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus News

Look what I found! I love these kinds of gems popping up occassionally. This was Netflix. Btw, quality show there1

Is the general public getting stupider or am i getting smarter?? I love my cousin to bits but every time he speaks, i lose brain cells. I didn’t always think he was this dumb. I find a-lot of people are too dumb to interact with lately so i stay in my house, alone, typing code and laughing at Netflix. Am i the problem?7

Too bad it's not on Netflix and I have to watch it... you know... somewhere else.6 -
My roommate is a damn wannabe programmer: he keeps talking about how much he’s passionate into technology, buying hardware, spending hours into arranging his workstation to be as “cool looking” as possible, talking about future big projects, he even wants the fucking Java and Arduino logos embroidered in his backpack the only issues are that I’ve never seen him spending time in a project which going beyond literal hello world and if I offer him help to help and improve (I’m an employed programmer) he refuses because he’s tired/lacks time (but always make it for Netflix). I’d be still ok with that because I believe in living and letting live but now every time he starts to bore me with his lengthy stories about projects he’ll never do I imagine him with a big clown nose 🤡8

Since morning, I’ve used-
Facebook, Instagram,whats app
Google search, chrome, YouTube ,Gmail
iPhone, Apple Music, Apple podcasts
Netflix
Amazon video, kindle
Can’t believe how much our lives revolve around these giants! -
This is how I figured out I figured out how to fix my proxy settings.
Can not Netflix and chill (work) anymore. -
For fucks sake, Amazon Prime has also decided that they are adding ads to their *paid subscription*. Because I guess paying them fucking monthly is not enough for them greedy fucks. It's not like they were loosing money either, the service had a slow but exponential growth ever since 2014 (slow in the sense that it was only hundreds of millions at first, but luckily it was tens of billions by 2022, poor amazon eh?) ... first fucking Netflix does this, and now these retarded fucks follow suit like little retarded ducklings with dollar signs for eyes. You can bet your fucking hats that the other services will jump on the adWagon soon too...
"you will own nothing and be happy".. yeah fuck you, you fucks. As if owning nothing wasn't bad enough, now that nothing comes with fucking ads on top FOR THE SAME FUCKING PRICE?!... And they have the audacity to fucking ask for *more* monthly money to get rid of the ads they oh so graciously provided?!
I don't even use fucking amazon prime, but what the actual fuck. This is *one* of the reasons I canceled my netflix sub. I'm not going to fucking support this behavior even if it doesn't affect me. But I guess some people keep showing netflix dicks into their gaping asses because they sure don't seem to be taking this bullshit back... And I assume even more people will keep sucking amazon dicks as if this was a-ok behavior.
god, shit like this really makes me angry...3 -
1. Gaming
2. Music "development" (I suck tho)
3. Netflix and chill, just without Netflix

I just learnt abt Stadia from Google!
They said “imagine a world where you don’t need expensive gaming hardware to play the next release.”
But my question is “will I need an expensive service to access that?”
Is it gonna be another Netflix thingy for game? For now I’m just thinking abt how much they’d charge for hosting the game on their server, wow.6 -
I was working on my OOD class project (code analyzer) while my gf was trying to watch greys anatomy...for some reason Netflix and watch series wasn't working and she asked me what do I do...
My spontaneous reply: have u tried github...😕
Her reply: what is that is it like a porn site4 -
Those of you who like "The Imitation Game", you probably want to check out "Hidden Figures" (2016). It's on Netflix now.
About a team of female African-American mathematicians who wanted to "break the glass ceiling" in NASA.
- Dorothy : conquered the (recently acquired) IBM frameworks using Fortran and taught her team to program it
- Mary : appealed to court to be allowed to study in a all-white school to get her qualification to be an aerospace engineer
- Katherine : her skills in analytical geometry enabled her to be the first female African-American in the Space Task Group in calculating the momentous capsule launch into orbit
My lazy ass just can't fathom how someone who deals with so much math and pressure can still smile to their family after work. My grumpiness nature will surely turn me into a monster.
And now I know what "human computers" means.5 -
I have so much free time! My plans all weekend have been cancelled, so I can just code all night and all day!
.... So what do I write? .....
Netflix it is then? *Sigh*1 -
I quit my job in January. I haven't worked for 6 months, I live off savings and investments and I don't really know what to do with myself except that I finally have time to finish all my pet projects and I'm really doing them one by one, which makes me feel the best I have in years.
Moneywise, I've thought about writing a book or a game, but I mostly just ride my bike or Netflix and chill and do literally nothing.
I'm almost 40 and I feel like I was 18 but very, very sleepy - all the time.
Thoughts?
Also, I asked AI and it assumed I'm a woman. I find that funny.19 -
So part of my job is to watch movies.
Unreleased movies. Premier special movies. Restricted access movies. Special screening movies.
Fun part about being in a media tech company is you get amazing perks.
One of the product verticals we have, competes with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
So, we have to determine which movies to license and resell on our platform.
For which we have volunteer program where they assign us movies to watch. A couple of movies everyday. Folks have to submit their feedback on certain parameters and then the team evaluates and makes the decision.
As of last few weeks, Cannes 2022 was on and we had a lot of movies lined up. Got to watch some real good ones while some were mediocre.
Surely fun, don't get paid for it. Good perks. Loving it so far.10 -
How many of us would like windows phone to be back. Its an awesome os, no lag, almost has all the apps(i am watching netflix on it) and the best build quality.17

This evening for curiosity i executed a nmap over my android phone expecting (like everyday) all port closed.
But i see
9080/tcp open glrpc
Wtf??
Let me check something....
--adb shell
$cat /etc/net/tcp
And the first line provied me the UID of the app that was running on 9080 port (2378 in hex)
So let me check which app is that
$dumpsys package | grep -A1 "userId=*UID*"
And the answer is com.netflix.mediaclient
Wtf??
Why netflix is running a http server on 9080/tcp on and android phone??3 -

Super awesome day today.
1. Got up early to do a risky production deploy and it worked!
2. Three PRs approved before lunch.
3. Got some time to continue learning scala.
4. Coffee and cupcakes with some refugees and discussed work as a software engineer.
5. Tried virtual reality for the first time. Really fun.
6. Helped prepare our goals for this quarter and present them to the department.
7. Department meeting had free local craft beer and pretzels.
8. Went bouldering after work and flashed a 6c.
9. Curled up with my wife watching Netflix.
I really love my life sometimes.5 -
whhooOOOOOOOOOOOOOSHSHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMRRRRRRRRR
yepp, that's me running a GitLab pipeline on my PC and laptop (laptop is noisier, 'cuz PC has Noctua all over the case).
Turns out running a pipeline of ~200 jobs is quite network-demanding. To the levels where my DNS server in LAN is timing out. And streaming Netflix in parallel kills some of the gitlab runners.
daammnnnn.... I so don't want to pay for an EC2 or EKS at this stage :/
But then again, I don't remember when was the last time I heard fans whooshing in my lappy. I so got used to only hearing the coils whine in it...
Decisions, decisions1 -
This new trend of platforms spamming with content discovery fucking suck. Nobody wants to follow multiple profiles with the exact same fucking content, especially when most of them are just people jumping on the bandwagon with more generic content and nothing to make it distinguishable. Also if 10 million people saw something on your platform, the it's pretty fucking sure already been posted and shared on every single platform out there, why the fuck would you still keep recommending it weeks or even months later?
I know spamming users with random (statistically more engaging) content leads to improved customer engagement as people sooner or later click these thing out of curiosity or boredom, but eventually they get tired of it altogether and leave for good. What happened to Netflix will also happen to YouTube, Instagram, and all other platforms unless they significantly improve the balance between content discovery and content continuity (i.e. the content each user follows and is coming back for).4 -
When you own a game server and you get ddos and your network is down and server is not up your problem is not that its down its that you cant fucking watch netflix...#hateddos2
-
My own cloud service. Mainly because of privacy reasons, but also playing around with servers can be fun. Before you know it you've got your own Spotify, Netflix, Google Drive, Last Pass etc... Without sacrificing all of you data :)
Sure, at first it may be a bit expensive because you have to get a server, but you don't need a crazy server to run these things, if you've got an old pc or laptop laying around you can use that too (in that case setting up your own cloud services is practically free).8 -
Well, today was a fun day playing with Qubes OS. I really did nothing really difficult, I created a template for multimedia pruposes (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Spotify and VLC) based on debian and then create a domain based on that same template.
It works
Still need to fix the screen tearing, but it is nothing really serious, in fact I probably just change the graphic card to the integrated on the motherboard to see if something change.
Probably the next issue will be set a few domains for specific issues:
- Dev [personal]: This will be used for my personal projects.
- Dev [non personal]: For those times I collab with someone / not my stuff
- [√] Work: mail, msTeams, whatever from my job.
- Bank Stuff: I can asure you that
- [√] Multimedia: chill n stuff
and thats all for now.
PD: Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V Will be a nightmare xD6 -
The plan for today was to spend my birthday at school and then in the pub with friends/classmates.
Turns out there were no teachers, so here I am, at home with a great lunch and Netflix3 -
Today I had plans to refresh my knowledge about transactions' internals in dbms and in general.
Then the rainy weather hit the town. The whole sleepy day wasted on Netflix.
Well.. I guess it was time for a break :) haven't had one in weeks3 -
In highschool i was pretty much high all the time, my friend and i had to make a project for our final year and although I'd work on it, my stoned ass couldn't concentrate whatsoever and I'd always be watching netflix in class.. needless to say, we got a pretty bad grade and failed the class3
-
Why Netflix?? What's your problem if I have a private browsing habit? Your friend Amazon Prime doesn't complain about it!!7
-
I hate working in silence so I always have Netflix in the background. My boss doesn't mind. Anyone else does this?5
-
I'm the only one who keep receiving phishing emails about not existing Netflix subscriptions from evident scam email addresses on a daily basis?
I tend to have more of those than newsletters I never subscribed to.
Come on, man, at least try harder to steal my data or money.4 -
Finished downloading lots of tutorial videos. Now time to watch all of this. This is like Netflix for me. I don't watch much Netflix instead I watch lots of tutorial videos and practice them. Skills development rather than Netflix and chill. 😀5

What to do when you're 8 hours away from home at work and all you want to do is netflix and snuggle in bed 😞4
-
Recently shifted from startup culture to an established organization as a Javascript developer. It has been 3 weeks haven't written a single line of code here or any other related work. Employees pick a suitable source of entertainment (mobiles, netflix) and stick with it whole day and go home. Coming from a fast paced startup environment, I get creeps due to such an eased out approach towards work, can't believe I am getting paid for this 😂, as I was working my ass off during my last employments.
-
I'm a developer, but also a father of 2 kids. I love spending time with them, but sometimes I also like to work on my side projects. And besides that, after a long day of work, even if I have spare time, I also like to lay down on the couch and watch Netflix.
How do you other full time developer / parents out there cope with your own personal projects?9 -
Just had one of those days.... totally learned A LOT about how to properly profile a Linux box using Brendan Gregg's( Netflix ) USE method. Only problem is... I didn't make any actual progress on my application project itself. 😩😩😩😭😭😭3
-
Had a very productive day today:
1. Fixed a small bug
2. Ordered Tab S6
3. Watched the entire season of a Netflix show4 -
Finally got an offer from a multinational org i could previously only dream of. Ugh i really deserve it plus i didn’t fuck myself over by not negotiating this time. Got an extra 10k on stock options which was wild. Bye bye leetcode, hello Netflix and weed for the next month until i resume in August.
Such a relief knowing my family will not starve and die (joke but i am my family’s support so i was a quite worried last month when the interviews just seemed endless).7 -
***ILLEGAL***
so its IPL(cricket) season in india, there is a OTT service called hotstar (its like netflix of india), the cricket streams exclusively on hotstar..
so a quick google search reveals literally thousands of emails & passwords, found a pastebin containing 500 emails&passwords ...but those are leaked last year most of passwords are changed & many of them enabled 2FA.. after looking through them we can find some passwords are similar to their emails , some contains birth year like 1975,1997 etc, some passwords end with 123 ..so after trying a few different versions of the passwords like
1) password123 -> password@123, password1234
2) passwordyear -> password@year
2) for passwords similar to emails, we can add 123 ,1234, @ etc
created a quick python script for sending login requests
so after like 30-40 mins of work, i have 7 working accounts
*for those who have basic idea of security practices you can skip this part
lessons learnt
1) enable 2FA
2) use strong passwords, if you change your password , new password should be very different from the old one
there are several thousands of leaked plaintext passwords for services like netflix, spotify, hulu etc, are easily available using simple google search,
after looking through & analysing thousands of them you can find many common passwords , common patterns
they may not be as obvious as password ,password123 but they are easily guessable.
mainly this is because these type of entertainment services are used by the average joe, they dont care about strong passwords, 2FA etc6 -

Does anyone know what the **day-to-day** differences are between working in IT (banks, hedge funds) vs tech (Google, Facebook, Netflix).
In my mind, I see Hell and Heaven. And there's a giant wall in between called "technical interviews + algorithms and data structures".
I'm on the Hell side... And not sure if I should climb the wall 😔
Is the wall even that big?8 -
[UPDATE] on my newly joined internship
Considering how corporate the organisation is, I'm surprised how chill everyone is. My team consists of mostly millennials, which is great!
Everyone is super helpful, I honestly thought it'd be shitty experience joining in and it'd all be so formal but none!
First few days I got no work, so I went and asked my mentor and he just laughed and said go home, watch Netflix, which I definitely didn't expected cause corporates
I got web testing work twice (sad I didn't get more, but in time it will increase), got some research work currently which is cool too.
Honestly, I wasn't excited to join as I didn't know what kinda work would I even get(it was pretty vague) but I'm glad I got this.
I'll continue to update here, and sorry I couldn't update any sooner
Cheers my dudes5 -
My phone just died. Got a new phone on recommendation of friends and flash Jolla on it. The OS is super nice but the "Android support" doesnt work. No lastpass, no netflix, no prime, signal works half, no banking app.
I really need my windows phone back. It just worked without issues. After two android phones and now a Jolla in about two years im kinda done with all this shit.14 -
My parents love the fact that I code and study computer science! They've always been super supportive of what I do. I just can't wait until they stop asking me to put on netflix whenever they want to watch a movie 😭1

Netflix and YouTube Music, and whatever paid, are missing an important part of the fun.

How do you guys deal with the feeling/insecurity that you're too slow, especially when working from home?
I never know if my progress is enough, or if the rest of my team thinks I'm watching Netflix half the time.7 -

Any body goes through a phase where they feel unmotivated to work?
Normally, I’m the kind of person that work a lot and even code on side projects during the weekend. For the past 2 weeks+, I feel unmotivated and just want to eat, shower, Netflix and sleep.
I’m certain I’m not depressed but I don’t know if I am burnt-out though.
Anybody had similar experience?7 -
I'm feeling empty. All my friends and roomates went home. But I stayed in hostel. I haven't touched my laptop from last 3 days. I'm just lying on bed staring at ceiling. I'm not even in a relationship, so I call my mother everyday to get the feeling of being loved.
This quarantine is strange. First few days I spent my time playing video games, watching Netflix, laughing at memes. But Now I'm feeling empty. Very strange thoughts are now occupying my mind. I'm sleeping 10+ hrs, and staring at ceiling or outside window most of the time. My room is a mess. Forget washing hands, I don't even feel like standing up to switch on lights.
I'm not saying I feel sad or depressed, I just feel very strange.16 -
Got a cheap FHD TV. Brought a 5 metre HDMI cable with a discount. Brought wireless keyboard and mouse. Connected the TV with my gaming PC and plugged in my keyboard. Also plugged in a xbox gaming receiver.
Now playing video games and watching Netflix with the POWER of a pc. I love off days.4 -
DAMNIT. I love Netflix, I do, but if you want to really stop the illegal downloading in the long term then don't remove series or movies I'm watching.
I get it, it's these big companies pulling their content but it's just so backwards.
Happy new year!5 -
- hanging my brain on a nail and drying it watching Netflix
- stroll/hike in nature (park, forest, by the river, etc.). At least 1 hour long
- warm seasons: riding around the city on my e-scooter at max speeds (works amazingly well!)
- warm seasons: gardening1 -
I don't get it why my wife prefers to watch tv and netflix on a smartphone even when there is a big screen just in front of her (and as I've heard other wifes and girlfriends from my coworkers do that as well) 🤯1
-
I watched about 5 minutes of The IT Crowd on Netflix. I already love it, and it makes me scared of the real world xD3

Just got done watching Netflix’s new 10 part series ‘Maniac’.
It’s by far the weirdest, most emotionally charged thing I’ve perhaps ever watched.
I spent a solid 5 minutes just crying my eyes out at the end of the final episode.
I can’t recommend it enough.4 -
The fires in australia killed something like half a billion animals, and it's kind of sad, all that potential barbecue going to waste.
We have the means to solve this. With KNAWWWWLEDGE.
What we do is hook up buckets to a bunch of big ass drones and have some sort of contest to see who can put out the most acreage of fire. People will come from all over for the annual "australian fire olympics."
Shit, put a $1 million dollar bounty on "most acreage put out" stream it on twitch, youtube, netflix, you name it.
Fires would be out in a day or three.12 -
I opened my laptop every day this holiday, always with the intention of learning something, contributing somewhere, doing something. I think the closest I got was to start a VM and open my editor and read some comments (I opened and closed some files too!).
I have done nothing the holiday except bing Netflix and put another 100 or so hours on Steam. Oh and Christmas dinner sandwiches, which as I right this reminds me the oh thing was worth it just for those...
Long and short of it is I think I'm in a slump, my output over the last couple months started dwindling and I thought a couple of weeks (16 days to be more accurate) would help, but it didn't. I'm back at work tomorrow and I'm just not feeling it.
I don't think there is anyone answer but has anyone got any experience of getting out of this feeling of "being done"? I already tried watching Rocky... Just made me see Dulph Lundgren every time my screen wakes up! Wallpaper of the dude probably doesn't help...5 -
No motivation these days to do any work from home. All I want to do is watch Youtube/Netflix/Hulu or play Valorant (fps shooter). I don't know if I'm just addicted to games again or if my motivation so low I just don't want to look at work. It all kicked off when 3 of the tickets I finished and got merged to develop were reopened by my QA person for obscure issues, then my PM decided to throw 3 extra tickets in mid sprint, and I just said "fuck it" and started playing games instead.
I don't know what to do. In the over year I've been at my company I've never done or felt this way while in the office. I've always got stuff done, but now working from home I feel very shitty.18 -
I tried to watch netflix ‘13 Reasons Why’ series after reading article about ‘scientists found a 13.3 percent increase in teenagers’ deaths from suicide”
source: https://theverge.com/2019/5/...
I started scrolling trough the show after second episode cause it was so boring and predictable.
Maybe I’m just to old or maybe don’t understand USA school system or maybe I watched way to many typical movies about how the ‘popular group of teenagers’ make other teenagers life a nightmare ( Including scary movie and Venezuelan telenovelas ).
Can anybody who got interested into the show write why it is so cool or depressing ?10 -
Fuck mi ISP, really, fuck it.
It left the whole city without internet access for 3 days, and it's service is HORRIBLE.
Not only that, they don't expand the network they have and we are stuck with 5mbps! (3, effectively).
Imagine trying to download a file, while 2 other people are watching YouTube, and 2 other devices are PLAYING NETFLIX. OF COURSE IT WILL STOP WORKING.
I COULDN'T EVEN POST A RANT WITH AN IMAGE (it'd stuck loading for minutes).
I am trying to get a new ISP and this one will be wire to my personal PC, fuck them. However, as a house in the suburbs of a small satellite city, it's hard to get a decent new service.7 -
Realize I'm a high school student that doesn't dev professionally (yet) and talk to friends, watch Netflix, or shoot some photos.

A client I've been working with was supposed to pay me for $710, a pay for my two-month work for two of his projects.
He called me today saying that he could only pay $179 and that I need to wait for my unpaid salary. This guy is a friend of mine and he lowkey gives me access to his Netflix account, so I don't really know how to feel.
Do I get mad? Do I laugh it off?
Any same experience here?9 -
I've been working on this personal project, it has a, for lack of a better word, "interesting" work flow. I'm trying to make a program similar to Netflix, here's the way it works.
I have an html page with a video, and a black background, I use the webview plugin for fusion, which acts as a mini web browser, it's programmed to load the test.html file, which the test.html file than loads the video, then I build a gui connected to it in different frames. It's odd, yes, but it does the job done. -
Casting Netflix on the latest Chromecast devices forces you to re-log in to your account on the TV every time you click that Cast button on your mobile. A minor problem for people with a small family and no friends. A big pain for those who cast from different accounts.
And a massive problem for me and one of our hardware solutions which remotely streams mutliple chromecast devices via a UDP directly in to different rooms in a hotel.
F*ck you Google TV, you insistent piece of crap, I'm going back to Chromecast Ultra.3 -
I should wait a bit longer before sharing this but looks like I am going to get a fulltime contracting position in a company that develops Netflix-like on-premises solutions for global brands, TV channels and telcos. I would with the team write hybrid app targeting phones, tablets, IP Tvs & consoles. I am waiting for them to call my two references and then voilà. Byebye e-commerce and WordPress, Welcome JS, React and Haxe. So excited this morning.3

I hate the current state of internet based service providers. They are collecting so much data, it's scary and borderline stalking.
A simple search on Netflix changes ads shown by Google. I watch a lot of Japanese/Korean drama and now my ads are in Japanese. What the actual fuck.
I run windows 10 on my main rig because of steam and windows only games. One day I was searching for filezilla in windows search. Since it is now handled by the same UI as cortana, it searched it on the web too. So now I have ads related to ftp hosting in Japanese.
Sometimes I feel like just formatting my system and install debian on it. But those games man. May be I can live without them.
Can we bring back the internet from 2008. It was so much better back then.12 -
Back in https://devrant.com/rants/5492690 @Nihil75 referred to SlickVPN with a link, where you can buy a lifetime licence for $20. I thought - what the hell.. I don't need a public VPN rn, but for $20 for a lifetime lic - I'll take it, in case I'll ever need one.
I had some trouble signing up - the confirmation email never reached my inbox. So I got in touch with support. And they.... generated and send me a password in plain-text.
And there even isn't any nagging requirement to change the pass after I sign in for the first time!
IDK... As for a service claiming to be security-oriented, the first interaction already screams "INSECURE".
Well.. should still be OK for IP switching, to unlock Netflix content I guess. Don't need anything secure for that 🤷15 -
> unemployed (took a break)

My favorite feature of Kaby Lake is that you need it to watch 4k netflix 😊 not for hardware limitations, but because of marketing 👍4

Honestly,
Netflix you should add toggle option for series like feeling.
mhm hrm with that I mean:
It would let us to watch an episode only once a week, based on how it came out.
no more binging on the same shit like crazy.
Someone needs to be first with this,
Also everyone is doing this self control alert like behaviour in/through apps cause we all tend to forget it when we have a lot of availability to overeat ourselves.
Rant end1 -
string action = day == "Monday" ? "Go to work" : "Friday" ? "Netflix & chill" : "Saturday" ? "Sleep all day" : "Sunday" ? "Get ready again for Monday" : "Code from 9-5";
I wrote nested ternary operators before and I swear I'd only use shorter conditions like the one below. 😳
string action = isTired == true ? "Get some sleep" : "Drink more coffee";5 -
Kodi is shit.
And all the other things (which seem to be just kodi with a different ui. All of them) claiming to be "tv box ready" with sentences like "let your smart tv look old": bro if I can't even install fucking netflix alongside youtube with a nice navigation (product native at best), need to use some kind of keyboard because you won't work with my paired aftv remote and get like 4 fps on a fucken raspberry pi.. my smart tv looks like it's from 2075.8 -
2023 After a big working day ! I just want to relax with an easy movie to watch
The movie

- kids want to listen something else
- woman want help with the dishes at 10 PM
- no more beer or chips
You know what ? I think i will go feed some duck 🦆 at the park next time7 -
I wanted to take a minute from y'all sucking on each other's dicks regarding language/tech-stack/os/editor wars to mention that Netflix just premiered Saint Seiya(here in the U.S don't know about the rest of the world) and it is pretty sweet.
Evangelion is in it as well, so if you've never had the chance to watch it and would like to well there is a nice chance :D
BTW bets are on: at least 1 or 2 fgits will say some shit about Netflix.1 -
It's hotter than a donkey's balls in my house right now and I'm finding myself absolutely cranky at everything as a result. Time for some wine and bad Netflix, any suggestions?7

Just finished watching 2 episodes of the Bill Gates Netflix doc.... Wondering if maybe I should change my username... Nowhere near the genius and hard worker he seems to be...9

If you Netflix and chill and auto-send me an "any update?" message once a week, rest assured your software won't be developed.

Just finished watching "Halt and Catch Fire" on Netflix. If you haven't checked it out, you definitely should. It's about 80s tech disruptions. Also, any other suggestions for tech related TV series / movies? Silicon Valley, Mr. Robot etc.?6

Just realized my family's night time routine...
-Mom dad: watch Chinese dramas on living room tv
-Younger brother: watch Chinese dramas on his PC upstairs
-Me: watch YouTube/Netflix or read webcomics on my phone in other living room

One evening I put on my Quest2 and have some fun with the Climb2. I fell off the cliff a few times. Next morning my 5yo wakes up with shitty mood and tells me he had a dream how he was on a hill and fell off. It wasva bad dream.
A few days later I was watching The Troll on Netflix. I like this king of genre so I was enjoying it. Next morning my kiddo wakes up all excited with 'daddy daddy, I've had a dream of a mountain!'. 'Did you fall off this one too' - I rush to ask. He says: 'no, but the mountain stood up and it was like a man!'
he's been asleep both times. I was with my headphones during the movie and on 1bar of volume during the climb. He's never seen neither the game nor the movie [or any troll, for that matter]. And I'm not making this up.
How... How the hell did he do that. Do we after all float in some wibbly-wobbly ether we can communicate through?4 -
That feeling when - one year after quitting Twitter - it’s the weekend and you finally don’t feel the pressure of having to have a side project, cool library, you name it anymore. I just enjoy my weekends and if I want to, I fucking watch Netflix 48 hours straight.
I genuinely feel that I am good enough at development that it won’t make a difference and my weekends are mine to spend. I have zero cool stuff on my GitHub and have never had any disadvantage because of that in the past 11 years of my career, so why even worry?
I officially achieved anti-imposter-Syndrome 😎3 -
Yo guys any idea how does Netflix blocks screenshots? Yea not technically disable it, but yea you know what I mean. Any idea?4

I have a 3 monitor setup at home. 2 are used for coding, 1 for playing Netflix/YouTube as "background entertainment".

So I have flashed and rooted (superSU) lineageOS 14.1 thats running android 7.1.2 on my phone and now I read that this will trip safetynet and won't allow things like netflix, banking apps or pokemon go - I tried to install netflix and it worked, tried pokemon go and after granting GPS via privacy guard it worked too.
But still it seems that if I would now flash Xposed (which I didn't find a good build for 7.1.2 yet anyway) that it would actually then start tripping those protections and that I should go with "systemless root" via magisk.
How does magisk compare to superSU? I loved root some years ago because of xprivacy, adfree etc. which are actually modifying system files as far as I know and I would like to go as "extreme" as denying camera usage to apps, but not making them crash, so just like xprivacy has fake IMEI I would like to show just a black image served to the app, I remember there was an xposed module doing that, but how far can magisk compare there?
And most importantly is there a way to just hide superSU and xposed from all those detections?4 -

The ammount of frustration my parents give me sometimes is odd. Today (friday) evening I went online at six and did some random stuff. At eight my father orders me to go offline for the reason that I shouldn't stay upstairs all night playing games.
So what am I supposed to do otherwise? All my electronics projects are on hold because Im waiting for parts. There is nothing on TV and I dont have netflix. If Im on my phone watching youtube videos, he'll come with some sentences like: Your on the phone again? Get off it!
If I ask him what I can do, he answers me with something like; Thats up to you. Yeah when 99% of the options i have require a pc. And there is NO way Im going to do something for school! And the rest of the evening ends probably in my parents watching a moovie I've seen several times. Which should be the same as wacthing the stuff I actually want to see on youtube or being on the computer.4 -

Writing my 13th tech book... which is nice and all... but this pandemic, plus absolute shit weather for weeks, is hammering my motivation. All I want to do is sit on the couch under a blanket and hammer my Netflix queue. But, I signed a contract, I have deadlines, so gotta get my ass moving (and fight to ensure this lethargy doesn't show up in the prose). As my daughter says: the struggle is real.4

My dad understands what I do (or maybe he thinks he understands, but close enough). My sister just thinks I'm tech support, and any Word or Netflix related problems go to me, even though I've never used modern Word, and I can't stand Netflix. My dad's fairly competent with computers, so I don't get many questions from him, other than the occasional "how do I do this probably impossible but actually kind of clever thing?"

I've lost the war. I'm happy with the comfort of my new chromecast but the amount of advertisements is really mayhem. Couldn't take it any longer.
So, i have YouTube premium now. You see? Ads do work! Also, it's not that weird to pay for smth you use so much. Why pay for Netflix and not YouTube?
I even spared some euro's by cancelling Netflix. Finally. Didn't watch a series for months. Fuck off wokies8 -
soooo I'm browsing Netflix, searching where to submerge the remaining of my brain this evening, looking for smth apocalyptic. And the Netflix's sorting algo gives me this.
Keep breathing. Oxygen missing. Don't breathe.
Is this a sign? I mean, it must be some sort of a sign. What's it mean... It can't be just a sheer coincidence.19 -
Losing faith in Netflix and their awesome open source projects.
Had a hard time trying to install Security Monkey : poor quality quickstart Ubuntu-only, almost no documentation, same instructions for latest (aka dev) and stable (aka prod) version, no depencies list ... oh and the UI display well only on Chrome ..
Then you surrender and just want to check the dockerized version they provide : it doesn't work neither (build fail or back end process just shut down) !!
I'm done ... -
Thinking about writing a browser extension that automatically gives a thumb down to every Adam Sandler movie on Netflix. At the rate they are appearing, it's just too much manual labor.1

I work in office block, he works in company next to me, was wondering where he been for the last couple hours. Started thinking he weren't in today hahaha.
Can't lie, might jump into the booth next to him 😂😂😂😂 -
for the sake of society and the future of humanity, recommender systems should introduce an element of randomness ... say I view items X and Y, and I am only very slightly inclined to pick Y .. next time the system shows me Y1 and Y2 because I like Y's... I pick Y2 and then it recommends Y21 and Y22 etc. .. never again would I see X, X1, X2, etc. although I might have been interested in checking them out, it's just that I had to pick something
I really think Amazon, Youtube, Netflix etc. shpuld have a "random picks" section .. not bestsellers, not most watched, just random6 -
Honestly... just discipline. We're not addicts (unless any of you are I guess) but if you need to focus then just have a quiet word with yourself.
Don't go on Netflix or whatever social media brain dissolver that you subscribe to.
In the words of Mr LaBouf: just do it. -
SRE as Site Reliability Engineering was invited by Google in US.
SRE was also Sex and Relationships Education in UK.Until around 2017 when it was changed to RSE
Watching Sex Education on Netflix could be great source of funny memes for my workplace. Especially that my company is UK based :D1 -
The fuuuuuucckkkkk
black mirror - bandersnatch. This is some next level shit... I kept postponing watching this on netflix. Just watched it today.
It's so twisted on soooo many levels..
How many times did you watch it?
No spoilers please :)2 -
What I "discovered" recently is, that Android will sometimes update certain apps even if you have auto-update disabled in Play Store.
Yes, just like that. I am not sure what exactly triggers the update, but it is certainly possible.
Just now I have seen that my Netflix app got auto-updated. Which is not a big deal in itself. But taking control out of the user's hands IS a big deal. This needs to stop. ❎10 -
Wtf? Why do people buy Netflix? Or Amazon TV? I am at a friends place and I think I searched for at least 30 different Films or Series already and not a single one was on either of those and on Amazon you'll often have to pay extra for a movie. I knew piracy was the correct choice. Wtf... And people pay for this shit...11

Anyone else watching the HD remaster of Star Trek: TNG on Netflix and thinking, "that Holodeck should have had some unit tests!"
Also: what's with the passwords being short spoken phrases that can be recorded and played back? Have they not heard of 2FA in Starfleet?
1/10 totally unwatchable (just kidding, I'm loving it)3 -
I just finished my first internship this Friday. During off-boarding, my mentor said that amount of work I did was well above the industry standard, and that recruiters probably wouldn't believe me. He then proceeded to give me a stack of his cards, and said to tell them to give him a call so he could explain. The question I have is, why is it that most of the work that interns do is usually worthless? I mean even if companies hired them so they can get rid of that Jira backlog, that would be great, but talking to my other friends who basically got paid to basically watch Netflix at work, I don't know, it just makes me sad. Plus, this leaves me scared for the future, because what if I end up in an internship like that next summer? How can I tell the difference?4

“Netflix lowers quality on all content for a month - to prohibit internet from crashing, according to Variety”
- push notifications from Swedish newspaper.
I doubt that Netflix could cause the internet to crash...6 -
I have switched from Chrome to Firefox in steps to de-google myself. I missed some of the features but I found a workaround apart from the Chrome Netflix Extended extension. I binge watch lots of Netflix series and after a while seeing intro again and again quite frustrates me. With Chrome, I didn't have to worry about that but with Firefox there weren't any add-ons which works properly so this weekend I decided to make my own.
If you are a Firefox user, please give it a try and let me know.

!Rant - advice
Anyone know the best way to determine if slow reaction time on a website is down to my internet vs their shitty fucking wordpress template?
There's a Rant coming soon - but I need to make sure it really is their fault and not just crappy Internet because it's Sunday night and the whole town is watching Netflix9 -
AGILE GLUTEN-FREE DECENTRALIZED EXPERIENCES!
Now that I have said the magic words please forward your billions of VC money to this Bitcoin wallet. I promise your character will be played by Brad Pitt or George Clooney or Beyonce in the Netflix romanticized documentary.1 -
It's somewhat nice here. The thing is we have a lot of infrastructure problems and it's hard to implement business here which made it hard to find a job. But if you're working with US clients, it's fine. Internet access and electricity is not reliable, but you can find a workaround.
As a consumer of digital services, it's weird as we're pretty close to the US (2 hours flight) and there's not an embargo against us, but payment processing services won't touch us (legalization is awful for them), so good luck paying with any local issued card. And if anything is country restricted, we're right next to Cuba (Again, legalization). Paypal, Spotify, iTunes, most of Netflix, a few cloud providers.
Yeah, that's it. Right next to the US and no embargo and willingness to learn other languages (Easy to find French, English and Spanish speaker), but with big infrastructure problems (Internet and Electricity) so you can be really qualified and not get a job.

Time for a new laptop, bored with current. Taking community suggestions. May donate current laptop to some poor dev soul in need; has been a trustworthy machine.
I do some of a lot on any given day: c#, PHP, node and typically run vs 2017, phpstorm, datagrip, sql management, webstorm, plus slack, office, etc.
I have terrible browser tab management skills and prefer electron apps over web apps. Am a vm junkie, constantly spinning up linux distros to see something.
Do light gaming when the mood strikes, Spotify or Netflix always on.
Suggest away.8 -
My worst interview was almost a year ago. I was very excited to interview with this company since it looked liked they were very focused and new what they wanted. I had two phone interviews before they brought me in. My final interview was with the ceo who had no productive knowledge of technology whatsoever. When I found out they were redeveloping systems for deployment on deface rent servers, which would also require their sales people to learn yet another password, I asked why they didn't consolidate their systems and re-use what they have. The Eco simply responded with, servers go down. I wanted to reply with, damn somebody should tell Netflix or google this rid but of information. I was basically done at that point.
I interviewed at my current workplace a few short hours later. -
How is it possible my netflix password got hacked when I never used it anywhere else and it's randomly generated? I saw some weird logins with random subtitles. Google password manager told me it's in some data breach, how do I find out from where? Haveibeenpwned didn't find anything. 😐7

I almost looked for every possible source but is not satisfied or not found optimum way or path.
Actually i have to build a netflix clone (not exactly but a video on demand platform for one local client). The tech stack will be React at the frontend and DRF (Django Rest Framework) at the backend.
I know the node will match my purpose at best, but this needs to be done on DRF. How should I return the video, should I return it in bytes, packets and what can sample code look like, how frontend should fetch it. It will really help if you put your insight, in general. Thank you5 -
I need to make a prototype. I've needed to make it for weeks. I need to have it made by the end of June.
Fuck you Netflix!
Fuck you right in the balls! -
Why the FUCKKK FAANGM is highly rated?
freelancing/startups pay more!!!

I need opinions: Amazon Fire Stick or Google Chromecast?
I want Hulu, Netflix, Crunchy Roll, Amazon Prime TV, and WWE Network.
I welcome all opinions. Remote strength, price, ease of use, and stability are my main concerns.
I also might jail break it and/or try to develop apps for it.
Sorry if a repost but this is a random thought from an alcohol addled mind.
I would use a laptop on every tv, but cost vs benefit says no.3 -

The problem with getting more experienced is it is really hard to decide what to learn next.
It is like looking at netflix screen for an hour to pick up a movie and going to bed without watching it because you got tired.1 -
I saw this from netflix's screensaver-esq display.
That's a great title!... thinking of orchestrating one's internal processes with the subtext of potential inner demons...
but ofc it has nothing to do with the tech term daemon...
I'm pretty sure that I need a break but I have more I need to do.2 -
Working on 3 projects solo remotely and everyone wants their changes promptly. Also, I don't disclose to clients that I work for other people. (Being me)
Finished with 2 projects today so gonna Netflix and chill ( I really don't have a gf and idgaf), I need pack of smokes really bad and internet outage just in time when I finally finished, now waiting for more changes eagerly so that I can get paid finally2 -
Who is going to tell Netflix that not every title need to be a 10 part series? A story that should fit into an 1 hr (maybe 2 max) is padded with unnecessary stories to be a 10 part series of 1 hr+ per episode.2

I would say pure dedication and commitment to your project, but if that doesn't help I would watch some netflix, go outside, play some games and next thing you know, you forgot all about it.

Netflix on Raspberry is impossible again huh?
I don't fucken get it. Why is shit so weird. And why is chromium the only Browser being built for armv7...3 -
My life always oscillates between:
"Ugh, i hate this super stressful fast paced company environment. These guys are offering me great money, but i am here whole day, running my brain for 9 hrs straight. I need to get out of this torture and take a break!"
And
"Ugh I hate sitting idle at home. I could not come out of my bed till noon, watch Netflix whole day and porn whole night and broke af. I need to get in some job and get back to routine"1 -
Really xcode! Now of all times, it’s Sunday and I just wanna finish so I can go home and watch Netflix1
-
First day of work at the new job.
BUT, don’t wanna work. Just want to snuggle in a cozy blanket and watch GOT on Netflix

Dunno if anyone else has ever used it or if most people just the browser, but the Twitch smart TV app is hot garbage. It takes several seconds to process every remote control input, even just navigating the menus.
It’s the only app on my TV that performs so badly. YouTube/Netflix/Prime all work perfectly, but for some reason Twitch acts like its running on a Windows Vista toaster1 -
!rant, I have a couple of sky hd+ boxes knocking around, we've cancelled our sky subscription as we're big on netflix and amazon prime instead and sky don't want the boxes back. I was going to take the hard drives out (1 TB each) as i could use some more external storage for my work and pics, but before I do so is there anything I can do with the boxes instead?
Afterall they have a circuit board, memory and a chipset, can I replace the sky OS with something else?2 -
Netflix "Smart Downloader" downloading 4 episodes of a TV show. That I already finished. Fucking Smartass

I've been learning android app development using kotlin/java for about 4 months, and i think i'm pretty good with kotlin/java, i've learned a lot of things related to android development, i've cloned netflix, spotify and made streaming apps with firebase as the backend, and I think I understand using firebase quite well because firebase itself is not difficult to use. Is it for my current skills that I deserve to work as a freelancer or do I still have to improve my skills?if it yes, give me an example of what kind of application I should do to improve my skills again!,I've read the android studio docs what to know and I've studied everything even though I sometimes forget how to make this/make that but I understand the logic quite well ok, please help7

So... what music/media/sound do you listen to while programming?
I switch between video game OSTs (Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, KH2), movie scores (The Social Network, Pride and Prejudice, and misc. stations), classical piano music, and hip hop. Sometimes I throw on Netflix on a series or movie I've already seen countless times.10 -
Mann i will always be a newbie to the world of linux, but running cmd on it, its always scary. Like one purge command and it went on deleting so many packages i didn't knew even existed at the first place.
I feel like a blind man following the blogs hoping to god that no wrong shit happens. And the blogs are also like "do step1 then step2 then step3, you will see x , do y and it will work" , and surprisingly it works!.
Linux is a beautiful mystery.
And why the hell is almost every browser in linux broken?
- Netflix, hotstsr and Spotify won't run on any versions of opera or chromium because opera didn't got some widevine installed.
- chrome runs but no good free vpn(i prefer hola/1click) works
- firefox is weirdly slow.
And yet this is the world's most lovable platform for web dev5 -
I have a wet dream:
Being armed with a spiked bat in a closed room with angular team.
Either this or see them slowly die of cancer day by day and chuckle in front of their death bed eating chips and watching netflix to not get too bored meanwhile. -
Any people around with experience developing for Google home/assistant.
Currently distracted by a headache and procrastinating on the couch watching Netflix. And I was wondering if I could develop an app that would pause my Netflix and tell me to fucking man up and get to work.
Maybe also one to get me out of bed, Google knows when I'm awake since whenever I'm awake I'm using a Google product. So no more snoozing just a swearing Google speaker that tells me to get the fuck out of bed. And won't stop unless I'm active.2 -
It was a liberating feeling when I realized that Quantum Computing is not gonna make my Netflix(or any other) experience better, but probably help solve some difficult computing problems like TSP....3

We are a small team. 2 developers and our leader. We spend our day trying to fix the issues and for troubleshooting and our leader, who just send excel sheets, talk with the client, assign his tasks to us and watch series at Netflix complaints if we work only 10 hours per day....WTF?3

Do you think an app like Netflix could be built with react native and still give the same performance?13

Coke, water and tea/coffee at the reach of my hand. Two monitors and some noise (tv/netflix or music).

I had lot of interviews this week and the possibility in which I didnt think I could succeed is the one with most % of success (maybe because I know by sight certain people -which are good developers- and so I thought for a long time "You must be really sharp to enter here"). The thing is that I feel anxious... Never seen spring cloud (eureka or netflix zuul) for example... Anyway, didnt get the offer yet...

I'm watching
"Cybercrimes with Ben Hammersley"

It's quite involving and interesting..
Anyways carry your rant... -
making a self driving go kart controlled with a rpi, should i use python, java, dart, or something else? python seems like the obvious choice.
i plan on making it have google maps integrated, with netflix and music player, with a touchscreen.
i was thinking c++, but a gui with c++ didn't seem ideal.
what would you use?
also is an rpi too slow to make the go kart be *relatively* safe?question dart golang python testing fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck rpi java opencl raspberry pi self driving3 -

As a Netflix subscriber, don't you feel inundated by new content and the need to binge "since paid for it"? How much time do you spend watching?
Just signed up for 30-day trial and and there are like so many original shows and movies and well in multiple languages. And a separate section for Coming Soon which contained like an unending list of movies and tv series.5 -
Have you ever built games you've seen in movies?
I am just recreating some games (in a safe way for gamers) from the series on Netflix "Alice in Borderland"
My favorite game, is that each user chooses a number from 0 to 100. I don't whant to spolier the show :x1 -
I'm running Void-Linux-musl on my ideaPad-320s and found 2 strange bugs, that I've never seen anywhere else.
1. Firefox-DRM-plugin crashes when I open Netflix or Prime.
2. YouTube videos play at slightly accelerated speed, despite being set to normal speed.
Has any one here ever seen those 2?2 -
Many decades ago, people thought about future by writing stories and making movies with flying cars and made up technology beyond belief but what we got today are food ordering apps and dating apps.
Well, its good those cars never came out, because I would rather order food at home and watch Netflix than fly around.1 -
Prediction:
1. Broadcast (free) TV will consist 100% of live programming
2. All series will be bought and available on streaming services like Amazon, Netflix, Disney+
3. Cable channels or TV episodes can be bought individually (iTunes, Google Videos, etc), basically they will be their own streaming service (it actually that already exists, IPTV? just not in the US?)
Why:
Everyone will use DVRs to record TV shows so can skip all advertisements
Therefore only way to get viewers eyeballs for ads is live programming where you need to cast votes which affect the outcomes (supposedly)
Streaming services obviously don't have this problem and don't need to run ads since there's a monthly subscription fee that more then covers cost.2 -
Just had the opportunity to watch movie Searching on Netflix.
It was a seriously intense movie, until this scene.. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 -
I watched a movie and i forgot its name i hope if you can help find the name, the story is about a generation where a crime truth is revealed through brain, they fetch the latest event you have encountered which you have seen it's like a stored video inside the brain, the very last crime she committed was revealed from the eyes of a rat which she forgot to kill and she was caught, i believe it was a swedish or danmark movie which i watched on Netflix long time ago... anyone?9

God I hope Dave Chapelle is still alive.

Yukki Music Bot
okay so, I'm bout to post my first rant and its basically about this telegram bot whose dev team I'm a part of, Yukki Music Bot.
It all started around April 2021 when most of us were busy streaming Netflix, chilling and locked up due to Covid that some people decided to make something interesting and for the community.
It was at first just a simple bot which just played music on call but now, due to the countless efforts and time by the Team Yukki, now you can even stream Ipl in telegram voice chat! and almost all of the music platforms are supported by Yukki >~<.
Check it out at @TeamYukki in GitHub!4 -

New software unveiled at the CES could track down on password sharing on streaming platforms. The program uses “machine learning” so that the platform will improve as it is being used, helping to further identifying “consumption patterns.”
