I hate Munich. Instead of using Windows, the city administration had built their own Linux distro called LiMux for all of the ~30000 city's computers. They invested years into developing it, because, hey, it's open source! Now they used it for four years, and just as Microsoft opens an office in town, they throw it all overboard and go back to Windows. Why? Because, umm, they can't even use MS Word, what all the others use and such.
This is such a bullshit. You had a good thing going here, in times of NSA surveillance and monopolies. Munich is such a capitalistic town. I'm happy to have moved out of it for good.13 -
Oh no microsoft is gonna buy github!
Just like they bought xamarin and turned it from a buggy piece of shit into something borderline useful?
Just like they funded canonical so ubuntu could become a distro what any person can use as easily as windows because they had money to actually hire people?
Just like they bought mojang and invested billions in an education platform?
Oh boy whatever will we do...15 -

father (1 month ago, btc price = $4000): no bitcoin for you! its gonna go down, people are randomly going to stop valuing it as a currency
father (now, btc price = $10000): you should've invested in bitcoin! with your own money! we could've been rich!
mother: please expand your interests, programming is not the only thing you should do6 -
I just updated my website to be GDPR compilant. (hopefully). It was the last one.
I'm so pissed right now. I have invested tens of hours for this FUCKING SHIT. I'm not against privacy regulations - I appreciate them. But this is not the way to enforce them IMO.26 -
One thing I've learned repeatedly over the last 20 years is that companies are generally not deserving of your loyalty.
By all means, show up, apply yourself, and do your best work, that's just being a professional. But never get emotionally invested in a company you don't own.
There are really only two reasons for staying: earning or learning, ideally both. Once you have exhausted your current employer's limits in this regard, move on, you don't owe them anything.3 -
When pandemic hit in 2020 I found myself out of work. Until then I used to have a java based pirate gameserver of a MMORPG as a hobby.
When pandemic hit I noticed that online players count increased from like 70 to 200 without much advertising because purely of people being stuck in home. So i decided to scale and spent 2 years with that. What a wild ride it was.
So i invested a bit in ads, managed to reach around 500 online players, opened my own company and launched a couple other successful spinoffs of that gameserver.
First year it was a goldmine but I was doing 10-14 hour days because I had to take care of everything (web, advertising, payment integrations, player support and also developing the server itself, ddos protections and etc.). I made quite a bit of money, saved for a downpayment for mortgage and got an apartment.
Second year I noticed that there was a lot of competition and online players count dropped, but I double downed on this and invested a lot into the product itself and spent most of the time developing a perfect gameserver that would be the big bang while also maintaining existing ones. Clasic overengineering mistake. As you can guess, I crashed and burned on all levels, never even managed to launch my final project because simply the scope was too big and I had trouble finding decent devs to outsource it to, since it was a very niche gameserver.
In the end I learned a lot especially about my own limits and ownership, now Im back to being a dev but working as a contractor.
I believe having actual business owner experience allows me to have different perspective and I can bring more to the table rather than focusing on crunching tasks.6 -

Fucking hell, that's now the fourth time in a row that I see my clients getting ripped a second asshole by previous developers, this one charged 1500$ for a "python script" that only calls ffmpeg with couple args, claiming tons of shit like the video being e.g. better quality after conversion - even though all it does, is a straight convert from one format to another. (no filters, anything, just a convert) I feel always so terribly bad discovering that shit and them proudly telling me about the "solution" they invested in..4

Anyone else feel like the rebranding was completely forced?

I managed to take down an entire school network with one VPN.
In short, I ran a personal VPN and eventually the System Administrators at my old school managed to pick it up as unknown traffic. For some reason, they managed to block the port but not the IP so I changed the port to 443 and their automatic system blocked port 443 on their entire network essentially rendering HTTPS useless for a few hours.
I never got approached about it but my school invested in a new IT team.3 -
212 millions invested in programming education in Quebec!

I'm really happy today. I'm not sure why, my life is in ruins on many levels, but at work I'm having fun and getting a lot more responsibility now. I even get to lead a meeting on Monday and be part of the management of a project which means I'll have people reporting to me. I suspect it's a sneaky way to get me more invested in the company so I'll want to stay after my studies but I enjoy it regardless. I finally have enough I need to keep track of to warrant carrying a notebook around and it makes me really happy 😂Hope you're all having a great day too!1

For goodness fucking sake Microsoft. Stop doing everything possible to get me to use Edge Browser.
Since building my new computer I've had edge recommended in the notification center, lock screen, start screen, emails, and now on my fucking taskbar.
Seriously what the hell is wrong with them, I DONT WANT TO USE THEIR SHITTY BROWSER. I wont use their shitty browser so stop recommending it to me. I'm already invested In Google services so stop trying to push your own on me.
Honest to God what do the higher ups at Microsoft do with their time? Sit around a table figuring out how to get people to use their default apps?14 -

Me: I need more programmers for the project.
Boss: You have 4 people, that's enough.
Me: I have 3 juniors taking 50% of time of a senior (me) contributing less than a medior and rest of my time goes to managing project. I know that in 6 months time invested in them will start paying off, but right now I need more people. Also I don't have me, by that logic, cleaning lady comes to the office every day and we couldn't work witout her, so there's 5 people, at least.
Boss: You'll manage.
Inner me: I would if I was working 8 hours as programmer without tutoring and managing.
Me: Sigh.3 -

I am now officially 23 years old.
So many hours of work invested
So many countless blood spilled
So much sweat made
So many years passed
So many projects worked on
Summed up in 0 successful projects
If someone were to ask me to showcase what I had done in 23 years of my life, I cannot show them something that no longer exists. The projects are dead. I cannot even prove my friends what I had done other than blindly say what I had done. But behind the scenes I worked so much and am completely demotivated by all of the pressure from failure. I have actually never felt so bad on my birthday. 2020 really is the worst year ever. I feel like a failure while life is just exponentially passing by.....18 -
mangodb's rant reminded me of smth.. Folks from my country might remember this story.
So we have a national e-health system. Millions have been invested, half of the money have never reached the project [disappeared smwhr in between] and its quality is not shiny. It works, sometimes even fast enough. But boy does it have bugs... Let's not get into that. It's politics.
So some time ago one IT guy spotted a bug that allowed him to get sensitive info of other patients. He informed e-health folks and waited for a fix. He waited for a few weeks but the fix had never been released. So he published his findings in soc media [yepp.. Stupid move]. That caused a national scandal. Not to mention he had been pressed with charges.
That guy and our health minister were invited in one of the tv debates. The guy was asked to explained how he found all this sensitive data. And he explained that he hit f12 in his browser, opened a network tab, issued a network request by clicking smth in the webpage analysed received data in the dev tools.
The minister looked somewhat happy, maybe a lil proud of himself - a person who has a "gotcha!" moment has that very glow he had. And he said: "what you did there was obvious hacking. I reckon you should know that true developers do not do those things you have just explained to us" [he was talking about dev tools].
I died inside a little bit.3 -

So, I'm trying to process the feelings from not getting accepted for the PhD project I applied for a while back. And it's just unfair. They've recruited people with no publication and less GPA than me. I also doubt any of them would be field-wise more relevant than me tbh. (Wouldn't be surprised if they hired MBA grads) I have all the relevant qualifications that even people working on that project do not have. I could easily get this project going beyond what they are doing with it rn. It's unfair. But it's life. And life goes on.
Am I angry? Yes. Am I disappointed, also yes. They didn't give me any alternative offers either. So I am going to steal the project and finish it so they have to throw all the money they've invested in the toilet.
... If only I wasn't depressed and could bring myself to apply elsewhere again. 🙄10 -
So, driving, my car on fire, under the dashboard of the passenger side a lot of smoke. No panic, I'm 1337 h4x0r so I did what a decade of experience thought me: I've putted it off and on again. Guess what; fire gone.
Note: Hope car doesn't die on me, I just invested 2k into it23 -
Inherited a simple marketplace website that matches job seekers and hospitals in healthcare. Typically, all you need for this sort of thing is a web server, a database with search
But the precious devs decided to go micro-services in a container and db per service fashion. They ended up with over 50 docker containers with 50ish databases. It was a nightmare to scale or maintain!
With 50 database for for a simple web application that clearly needs to share data, integration testing was impossible, data loss became common, very hard to pin down, debugging was a nightmare, and also dangerous to change a service’s schema as dependencies were all tangled up.
The obvious thing was to scale down the infrastructure, so we could scale up properly, in a resource driven manner, rather than following the trend.
We made plans, but the CTO seemed worried about yet another architectural changes, so he invested in more infrastructure services, kubernetes, zipkin, prometheus etc without any idea what problems those infra services would solve.2 -
I gave up on investing $2000 in Bitcoin back in 2011.

My love for Clojure is so deep that I have invested the whole company. Over the past months just everyone came up to me and asked me, if I may teach them some Clojure programming. With everyone I mean literally everyone working in this company - fellow programmers, the ladies from HR, the Sales Team and even the CEO.
So today I gave a two hour introduction to the whole team on how to Clojure (in absolute basic terms).
The team has just voted that we will do that every friday starting next week for the rest of the year.

So being a fan of Silicon Valley i found out there's a real startup company with a Voice-controlled tablet device called "Nucleus".
Irony is they are suing the same company which invested in it and then copied it's product....(Amazon)3 -
I really invested into this work from home lifestyle, moving in an appartment where i could have my own office, upgrading my personal workstation, leaving overpriced locations close to subways behind.. so i do hope it will remain like this for at least a few more years (or why not, even forever for dev roles)
It's way better than a shitty office placed in location equally incomfortable for everyone
Otherwise.. well, there is always the option to go freelancing from home3 -
I've played 46000 battles in WorldofTanks.
avg battle time: 10 minutes

Now I just wonder had I invested all that time to code what I could have become by now.6 -
I was using the app Jobr to apply for random positions. It’s like tinder — only you swipe to send your resume.
A week or so later I got an email from a company locally that wanted to set up an interview. I honestly thought it was a scam! I didn’t even remember applying for the job.
Long story short, they’re mostly desktop developers, and I’m the first front end web guy. I was initially hired to help with UI stuff but on the last project I was developing Service Workers. So I guess I just get invested and give my fullest.
Now myself and one of the other programmers are working on the 3rd gen of our software, built with Vue.js and rest APIs.4 -
Went to firefox test pilot and they really got some cool ideas there (e.g. snoozetabs: https://testpilot.firefox.com/exper...) only if firefox devs invested 1% of fucking around with "cool ideas" to maybe getting the dev and responsive tools up-to-date..1

well fuck me, just spent the whole weekend (about 33 hrs) not being able to solve a task from uni with a java program we had to write🙄😪
the problem was a given set of movies with a weekday, the begin time, the duration, the title, and a "score"
the movies take place in one week (random days, random amount of movies) and every movie can be shown multiple times
our task was to find a sequence of non-overlapping (all unique) movies with a score of at least a given number
all in text form
i tried dynamic programming but the more i tried, the more it got complicated, so i ended up using "earliest finishing time first"
my code is just 3 points under the goal and i don't know what to change anymore😒, also some friends did the exact same and succeeded somehow
copying (and obfuscating) won't work, as the codes will be compared by a very good "copy checker"
let's hope i'll still have a chance for an exam😐2 -
If you are more interested in “being right” (aka winning an argument) than learning from experiences (both your own and others), then I will not waste my time on you.
Story time:
As a member of a startup accelerator I had the privilege to run into many types of people.
There were 2 entrepreneurs who liked to argue a lot. They would argue not just with other members but with advisors, investors, EIRs, everyone. They were much more interested in “being right” than learning from the experiences of those around them.
They flustered many people, but sometime we would have REALLY seasoned investors or entrepreneurs speak to us. Those folks never got flustered.
I needed to know why...
So I pulled aside one of the bigger investors and asked him why. This was his response.
“I’ve invested and advised on every type of company you can imaging, with every type of entrepreneur. There is a lot to be learned from that experience. But if you are more interested in winning and argument than learning from experiences and creating a good business then you are not worth my time.”
He would give his advice and then go right back to his email for those folks.
Smart
1 of the 2 entrepreneur I mentioned actually turned it around. Once he found out that the investor had invested in and almost identical company in the same space and that they had sold for 100M+ he finally started to listen. You could see him really fighting the urge to argue, but he did it. That guy ended up being successful and is on track growing a company today.
The other guy had no success and is still on the Slack group of the co-working space arguing with anyone who will engage him.
I know which one of those I would want to be.
PS. If this hurts your feeling and you feel like commenting. Feel free. You’ll look very cute.2 -

But I also believe anything could be geeky if you're invested enough in it, so I'm also into pole-dancing9 -
Gave a recommendation to the boss to do a thing. He said “Go and do the thing.” I wanted to do a proof of concept but there was no time. We got the contract. I tried to do the thing. It didn’t work. It WON’T work because the vendor’s marketing far overpromises what the product can do. No way to back down because the client is already fully invested in the solution. I want to quit my job AND my career now because I apparently suck at all of it.1

So for a while I have wanted to build a raspberry pi cluster. In the spirit of shia labeouf I got started last saturday.
I had two pies lying around so I figured I'd run some experiments before I invested in a lot of hardware. After about a day I had turned the two pies into a shared cluster when disaster struck....
I had completely ignored the fact that you cannot run 32 or 64bit software on an arm processor (I know... I'm a java developer). So when I booted my service and the load balancer, I found that nothing worked. So pretty bumbed out, I quit the project.
Later that day I found a crazy guy who had bought a batch of 400 small form factor PSUs (300W) and internally I laughed at him a little. I mean, who's gonna sell 300W irregular power supplies. Then, just as I was about to go to bed I found this guy, he was selling from a batch of CPU-onboard motherboard for 10 bucks each and everything clicked!
I did some quick calculations and decided I could probably gather enough cash to get: 10 motherboards, 10 2GB ram dimms, 10 Sata disks and 14 PSU (in case some fail) and some misc hardware for networking and such.
So... Long story short, I am going to build a cluster computer, the first version is going to have 10 nodes and I am waiting for delivery right now!12 -
I guess I can also amend in my long, ongoing, storied history of bad calls, failed projections and stellar forecasting that:
- I invested an embarrassing amount of time, money and hope learning Adobe AIR
- I've sent-away for the https://inventhelp.com patent registration kit at least twice
- I've publicly declared that OAuth would never last
- I actually thought Microsoft was onto something with J++
- I bought a bunch of shares of World Wrestling Federation stock the day it went public
- I've stated on my movie podcast that I'll defend until my last breath my argument that Godfather III may be the best film in the series
Can I pick 'em, or what? ;)

Javascript days are counted... I've been away from the dev world for a little bit and instead of writing bugs I've been invested in reading news portals and checking on fucking frameworks...
Web Assembly its gaining traction and projects like Blazor are already showing its potential... I cant wait for things be v1, in any case... fucking Javascript its soon to be "that fucking shit we use to use".
No one truly likes javascript, and if you do like it you are probably the kind of person who like to rape babies anyway.8 -

In the before times of 2019, one of the guys in the office had this habit of sucking his teeth after lunch.
I can hardly describe it. Imagine making kissy sounds but with your tongue and teeth. Did this almost every day from 1-2.
Probably happened every 1-2 minutes. So just long enough to get back into the swing and boom *thick*.
I just invested in some really nice headphones eventually.1 -

There is boy who is born to lower middle class family so there is a money problem envolved and his parnets kept fighting over this probem but they never tell about that to their child. They buy him everything in their budget but the kid knows about their problem, so whenever he really likes something which is costly he never tell his parents about that.
So life passes by and money problem grows bigger and bigger and that feeling grows stronger and stronger so he believes in the quotation that "if you love something you have to let it go" xbox, video games, toys, mobile phone, laptop, even the girl he likes. he knows their problem and never said anything about it so he feels lonely in life. Now the kid is older and in last year of his graduation he finally find a job but in all those graduation year he wants to do something else which require more struggle and is not an easy road. but they invested so much on him that he feel burdened. So again that feeling comes in "Let it go choose the path that is visible not the one which is foogy".
Should he choose the easy path and help his family or take the hard path and find out what is the end of it?1 -
They actually support me.
My mother, grandfather and grandmother think I'm a highly skilled mage.
My father, who thought me how to use torrent, sees my potential and wants me to become a developer in his company.
I explained him the basic concepts of Bitcoin, block chain and AI and thinks. He wants me to create a cryptocurrency 😮😃.
All the more reason to invested into cryptocurrencies (pun intended). -
By this month, I have been in business for three years. How much pressure have I suffered in three years? I am a programmer. I used to think that writing code is too youthful. I started to know that when I started a business, when a programmer might lose my hair, I would be bald if I started my own business.
In order to develop my own products, I invested most of the funds in the early stage. Later, when the product came online, I struggled with promotion, but promotion was not as easy as expected, especially when you had no money. Those successful people always like to share the story of "without spending a penny to promote and make one million users from zero." I have nothing more to say about this except Ha ha. I am very confident in my product, but if I have no money to promote it, it means that no one knows how good your product is. So I always wanted to get a financing. But if promotion is difficult, is financing easy? The chicken soup said again: "All the money floating on Zhongguancun Chuangye Street is money, and as long as you come, it is yours." Ha ha, I laughed and said nothing.3 -
Thank you, company forced windows update! My 60 minutes reconfiguring rabbitmq and postgres were well invested instead of investigating the memory leak fucking hibernate causes.

So guys you all remember or know or will know how it is to be a student. Not that much money around, have to be responsible for the first time of your life and I don't know since we're all programmers here our Desktop/laptop that we invested our money on for the university is our life.
Recently I have found out that something is up with my laptop. My Ram should have been 8GB but it shows only 4. I almost fainted, I thought the seller caught an idiot (me) and sold it like that. So I decide, for some reason, to buy 2x8gb ram so I can have 16 since its the max support of the system.
I open the laptop and what to see but my laptop had 2x4gb in there.
Regardless I installed the new ones to find out what else but my PC is now showing just 8gb.
"Calm down Nick" I said maybe GPU uses it but no it only shows 4gb ram, the same amount the laptop came with so I guess it's integrated.
So now I can only think that the problem is occurred because my Father, dropped the laptop when I specifically told him to not have it in dangerous high places. I Googled around but everyone is talking just swaping the ram chips well yeah I did that 100 times, still the same.
Tl;Dr I'm freaking out because theres something up with my laptop9 -
My last search for a job...
Very bad.
I'm a cnc operator with 3d modeling formation.... As a specialized job I should be getting at least 50% over the Portuguese minimum wage (wich is only 650€)...
I asked only 50€ above minimum wage over 10 interviews or more and no one accepted it....
The fashion in Portuguese companies now (most of them) is to pay minimum wages... Even if I already invested 3 years of my life in formation... Basicly the same as an engenheir (not the same requirements, I know).
Ended up accepting minimum wage on my current job.3 -

So there is this social institute I invested three years in.
Left them a record budget to play with. After being chair person for two years before and even administrating the whole 1900 of em.
Turns out they're FRICKIN' MORONS!
Instead of welcoming constructive criticism
/* which is because they can not read one single line of simple text without a fidget spinner at hand. And the second line of text, they ask their meds being upgraded! */.
They start fucking people up by spreading lies publicly!
On the fakken Web!
In so called protocols
/* which they don't manage to spellcheck before publishing. As freaking "devs" they major in */.
Just because I told them, that another institution which is conjoined to them within the universities senate, DOES NOT STAND IN COMPETITION!
They don't get it.
Is it that difficult?
Downvote if it is.
And please help me with those worm infested no brainers marrying in circles.
Its incredible how much you can achieve in some years and still so many people stay ignorant enough to start spewing their verbal vomit all over the campus thus fist fucked professors reign in, because "muh truth! no development. just money, I like money. muh moving student, not like it! not like work!".
What the hell is going on in this society?!4 -
Ever suggest improvements and get shot down at every turn? I was discussing automating our release process today and suggesting that instead of having to do everything manually and babysit the build, we should let Jenkins deal with releasing and the attitude was that we shouldn't even try because we'd spend more time maintaining the automation and wouldn't gain anything. Obviously I disagree, but it seems like I'm always coming up against shit like this.
Our requirements gathering is another point of contention; I think we could be way better at it if we invested more time talking to customers before a project starts but the attitude is to get straight into development and deal with that later.
I don't know why I even bother sometimes...4 -
I'm so sick of devs not caring what happens after they push their code. A new feature was released on the front-end two weeks ago but the backend was never deployed. It's been logging errors for 2 weeks now.
I know I'm equally at fault for not noticing but I feel like the only person that ever notices things like this. I also discovered a data issue today by looking at the error logs.
How can I get my teammates to be more invested in how the service runs live?8 -
Remembers a time when I was considered non-technical founder and not taken seriously as credible tech company leader by smart ass VCs
Years invested in learning, experimenting, building. Now somewhat capable.
Considered too technical to be understood by dumb ass VCs.

I'm most excited about Smart Contracts & Distributed Applications.
In early January I started learning Solidity thinking it would be super difficult but was pleasantly surprised when I'd completed my first DApp in a couple days. Two months on and I've finished 3 major projects and launched my own Udemy course.
I'm not a big follower of Crypto Currencies at all and haven't become financially invested in anything really. I just love the way development works on a blockchain; it is quite interesting and It feels really fresh solving problems using code that will become immutable. -
I invested 1000 rs in bitcoins today. My 1st 0.002289 BTC 😁😇. (1000 yet to invest). Lol its a small amount i k.2

Hey all, just wondering what it was like for you when starting out your career.
I'm a newish dev, been full time for about a year hired right after my internship. My role has a bunch of hats ranging from DevOps/sys admin to software engineering, sort of a weird mashup of skills so it's not pure software engineering. I mainly work with python, Ansible, and some terraform.
However I still just want to say I'm sorely disappointed in my undergrad classes.
I have a "concentration" in software engineering. I did struggle in classes as I was working full time to pay for classes without taking out loans, but I don't really remember learning a whole lot that was useful in industry.
Overall I just feel like just paid money for a degree that didn't teach me very much useful stuff. Maybe I'm just lacking experience? Maybe what I learned I just don't notice myself applying because it's subconscious?
My coworkers have taught me so much, and I'm very thankful they invested that time into me. I still get ripped to shreds during code reviews lmao (definitely not as much compared to when I first started but I'm also still learning and will always be)
Plus our company docs are pretty good so I can always read through them or search our codebase for examples on how to utilize in house tools etc.
I definitely hit the jackpot with this job, just feeling like I should have been prepared more.4 -
Why don't most products follow a minimalist approach right till the end? Most start ups start like that. But when things begin to fall apart or become better they tend to deviate. While the earlier reason is understandable (because no one likes to fail so they'll do anything to not fail), the second reason seems to me more of an organisational creation than what the users want.
From my understanding as the product becomes popular positions (managerial or product) created need to justify their presence. What do they do? So the breath of fresh air brings in a lot of garbage that may not be required and would be in deviance from the main product idea.
It is debatable that audiences would not accept such ideas that are being brought in, because hey audiences are smart. And they are. But the organisation in order to justify the original wrong decision tends to push their new features (through offers or marketing campaigns). This makes the organisation invested into a wrong direction and security of jobs of the new managers/product people. Win win situation, but lose lose for the organisation and the original product.rant minimal minimalism organisational priorities managers product management logic minimalistic approach minimalistic organisation hell -
Fucking hell. My third email to OpenAI in a week.
First one: performance sucks! Got general advise on what model to code. I already use the mini one and worked fine before.
Second one: when will there be a new database? I needed smth quick critically and it failed instant. Outdated shit. 2023 ffs!! No answer, only a comment, oh yeah, that must have really sucked and we understand. And.. Nothing. Only information that the 3.5 model was even more outdated (2021). I didn't accept answer and wrote complaint back.
Third one: performance again. Requests can take up a minute using agent api. Literally unusable. I thought it was my code, had to he, no, also, a former older project (retoorded.molodetz.nl) is slow AF too.
I told them that I don't believe that every customer has such bad experience and I want it to taken care off. I'm sure they can do *click* somewhere. I told that that I would leave but I invested so much time..
Something is not going alright there. Agent suff keeps staying beta, no new database planned, performance issues, including their own chatbot..
I'm just pissed, because I waste 40 a month or something on their shit. (btw, 40 is a lot usage, daily extensive use)6 -
Why is so Fitbit so bad at multiple time zones??
Guess what, people get on planes and travel.
Every time, my Fitbit gets so screwed up, including things like changing previous step counts, or duplicating an entire day of steps.
I understand MTZ is a tough problem, but this is just unacceptable. I'm not obsessed with my steps, but when your product is all about counting something, seems like you should be more careful to avoid double counting or not counting at all. Seriously, how much R&D have they invested in their hardware and apps, but it completely fails when you travel. Get it together!1 -
Guess I've been pretty lucky, although I can think of one time a client screwed me.
Ran a job with a Cisco tech who forgot to get a sign off. He did have emails from client saying he was happy with job but things turned sour after a few weeks.
Long story short, we ended up settling out of court, I lost £8k on the job and had to sign a gag order.

AI hacking attempts being spotted in the wild because they're too polite
https://someone.elses.computer/@mik...
there's actually a similar vetting process in the crypto industry where you have to swear or you won't get hired. forget why now
this seems optimistic to me because companies generally don't do security. a hacker desperate for money has less money to blow on AI hacking than someone invested in protecting their company would on AI pentesting. poor low level pentesters I guess though -

Note to AltRant testers:
1. Tomorrow, I am going to force-expire build 1583 (the big update with the weekly group rant support) in favor of the build with the bugfix (mentioned here: https://devrant.com/rants/5888282) for consistency and for more up-to-date crash reports/feedback.
2. Limited macOS support is coming extremely soon, I will post a comment here in order to notify you about the added support. I believe the same TestFlight link is going to work for both macOS and iOS. NOTE: I haven't invested too much time with polishing the experience for macOS, so there will be bugs, there will be layout glitches and there will be compromises. I am well aware of all macOS issues but I just want to release something and then fix it along the way.1 -
All the professors I had didn't accept that I have already solid notions about the arguments in their course. I tried to explain I worked in some agency and they invested in employee knowledge but the tilts was embarrassing, they mocks you but systematically when you hit the highest score in the test they compliments for "how well I've studied" when I didn't spent one minutes on studying while I was engaged with more complex and training exams. I wish a degree where you can attend the exam without following the course if I'm already prepared.

So, my simulations started to take about a week to complete.
Productively invested the time in getting into Python!
I'm really liking its syntax and relative simplicity (coming from c++) and I'm kinda digging it at a sort of proof-of-concept producer: instead of talking in pseudocode I can just put down a python script to show what I mean. -

How many started of development as a hobby and will to create something awesome and then got soaked into is so much that at a later stage in life you are really not left with any option because you invested all your time and health into sitting front of computers ? Wait. Why does this work? It doesn't copy any of the frontend code into the deploy location.
I'm not sure how this works, but it does. Crap, there goes my morning tracking down this wretched spaghetti deploy code.
At least I understand how it works in production. Shit, why is it different between production and our integ servers ,that isn't good. Maybe I can just refactor it.
That was all on Monday. It's now Wednesday and I'm still fucking refactoring something that wasn't actually broken. It just didn't make sense.
Maybe I should just revert my last three days of work on this branch and move on. No! It's too late, I've invested way too much time into this project...
... and I'm almost done, just a few more commits right? -
Since i needed higher quality data for retoor9b I invested some time in the statistics project. It became quite decent. It's not a silly script anymore.
I also had rank per user regarding popularity (upvotes / post avg). It got lost somehow. I only know that IHateForALiving has second place. Root 10th. Netikras 14th, Lensflare 15th). First place was by not regular user who made one post with six upvotes. That's all. Hihi.

Coolest project.... SharePoint sucks, so I wrote an app to extend it into something that is useful.
The app consists of:
- a custom SharePoint event receiver to maintain a custom retention setup
- a custom feature to enable users to tag documents as related to each other
- a custom search experience with custom views and previews
- a .Net windows service to sync the data into a SQL database
- a .Net MVC application to manage the reporting and notifications system
- a notifications system in .Net
- custom SharePoint approval workflow
- a PHP site that maintains a full backup of every document in the event that SharePoint goes down
I was the only developer on the entire project and while I asked for backup they never provided it. So if anything happens to me... And since I am a good dev, my code is self documenting and someone will need to telepathically link to me to find out the multiple places that all of this is running (like five different servers including both windows and Linux).
The whole thing, I have about 18 months invested into it ;) -
My goal would be to start my own software company - preferably without outside investors.
I don't think I'll be doing it anytime soon, at the moment none of my side projects are ready for public and likely never will.
Currently I'm motivated to start working on a git platform like GitHub or GitLab that improves developer UX and improves common pain points devs have, I would say this one has the most potential but it also requires so much work and time invested.
I also like making games in my spare time, but starting a game studio feels almost impossible to do without outside investors. -
My first project was a veterinary web app ( CRUD ) in a really small company, supposedly to replace the clients junk software, the client was a friend of the money guy of the company, after 18 months doing whatever the client asked, and monthly demos, that fucker said I don't like it, I wanted something equal to what I have been using just with internet connection.
At the same time there was other project to create the workflow of commercial orders with other friend of the money guy ( lol...) But in this case the guy was the salesman, Almost same history. When the technology director and the investor asked the sales guy he said " the client said he is not going to pay a shit, there are a lot of free apps for something like this", of course both of them got fucking mad and blamed us, they invested more than 3 millions ( Mexican pesos ) and got nothing in return. -
I NEED A HACKER TO RECOVER MY STOLEN BITCOIN BACK HIRE ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST
I couldn't help but feel grateful for the role that ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST had played in my success. Without their help, I might have given up on cryptocurrency investment altogether. My journey began in a time when Bitcoin was surging, and I found myself caught up in the excitement. I invested a significant portion of my savings, driven by the allure of quick riches. Yet, not long after, the market crashed. I watched helplessly as my investments dwindled to a fraction of their value. Panic set in. I scoured forums and watched endless videos, but the more I learned, the more confused I became. Every missed opportunity weighed heavily on my shoulders. Just when I thought all hope was lost, I stumbled upon ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST. Their website was sleek and inviting, promising to help investors like me navigate the tumultuous waters of cryptocurrency. Skeptical but desperate, I decided to give it a chance. The first conversation I had with one of their experts was a breath of fresh air. They spoke with an infectious enthusiasm and a depth of knowledge that reassured me I was in the right hands. ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST dissected my financial situation and the decisions I had made. They transformed my fears into actionable insights. Instead of disappearing into the shadows of defeat, they showed me how to harness the chaos of the market. It wasn't just about recouping my losses; it was about strategizing for the future. With their guidance, I learned to analyze market trends, understand risk management, and spot emerging opportunities. I dove deeper into blockchain technology, and I even picked up coding to better grasp the systems behind the currencies I was investing in. They provided tools and resources I had never considered before, turning me from a mere investor into an informed participant in the crypto space. As I watched the market begin to stabilize, I made calculated moves that surprised even me. What began as a recovery plan morphed into a thriving portfolio. I diversified my investments, explored altcoins, and engaged with communities of like-minded enthusiasts. Each small victory built my confidence, and soon I was easily navigating trades that once seemed daunting. The turning point came when a new cryptocurrency project emerged on the scene, promising revolutionary applications for smart contracts. Armed with the knowledge from ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST, I recognized its potential before it exploded in popularity. I seized the moment and invested strategically, leading to returns that far exceeded my previous losses. In the quiet evenings, while watching the markets fluctuate, I often reflected on how far I had come. ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST had not only restored my confidence but also equipped me with knowledge that transformed my life. I was no longer just a victim of a crash but a proactive player in an ever-evolving digital landscape. Wait no more, call: for help.25 -
OK so here's that App I wrote for scraping recently added Prime Videos info...
It's really pre-alpha and lot's of things to clean up but... it works... for me...
https://github.com/allanx2000/...
You need to relink some of the references... You can download the DLLs here. Haven't cleaned it up yet and don't need EntityFramework.
https://github.com/allanx2000/...
Now why am I posting the source code you ask?!!! Well you see writing an app that tells me what new movies were added so I can add it to my watchlist is a poor investment honestly...
Porbably invested 10 hrs writing it and well that adds more movies to my Watchlist. Watching these movies even at 2x speed still takes 1 hour...
I could/should be doing better things...2 -
So the other day i paid for the sitepoint/mapt bundle since i was eager to learn to setup a website i bought awhile back.
Yet buying from mapt seemed to have been a waste of time, first off no comfirmation email just a tiny pop up on their website, the website seemed a little poorly setup since for one i wasn't even aware i had access to all their content.
Afterwards i never got a coupon for site point which was something i was looking forward to, i used mapt stuff before and two of the ebooks that i spent lots of time invested into had issues that basically stopped me half way, thus wasting all of my time.
I emailed on friday about this coupon, and finally getting one on monday i created an account used the coupon and guess what "this coupon has been used already"
WTF is this shit?
So all in all the irony of a fucking website that has content to create websites from scratch and probably including automated emails to alleviate all of these issues that has yet to use any of these things!
I'm still in the middle of customer support trying to get a working coupon for the other half of the bundle i paid for. The hilarious thing is they want an order number from me, which i don't have at all due to no automated email for order confirmation. I guess i wait yet another two days to get crappy response.2 -
Is it just me or the last season of black mirror was just the worst??? It was less scary and more invested in being politically correct and neutral...

When you go to "Oh they do it cheap", don't expect results...
Changed my PC build around 2 years ago.
Went from Core i7 / Nvidia to Ryzen 9 / AMD
Welp, AMD is totaly unstable.
I've invested 5k $ so I'm gonna ride it, but NEVER, EVER EVER again I'm buying AMD CPU or GPU.
Shit is unstable as fuck. I have latency issues, CPU issues, Video issues almost every week.
With Intel/nVidia cvombo I had before, I had issues maybe once every 3-4 months.
So yeah, buy low cost AMD, you pay the price later in usability. Fuck them.21 -
I dozed off last night while playing Steins;Gate.
Then I dreamt that I had time-travelled back to the year 2014.
Of course I invested a ton in Bitcoin! Knowing I'd become a millionaire four years later!
Sigh. That's what good Sci-fi does. It addles your brain.
Anybody here who's watched/played Steins;Gate?2 -
When you have invested in 8GB window installed laptop & after 2 years tired of repairing you put it off and start using your old 2gb ubuntu installed desktop workings since years.

At first I got this crappy project which 400 users HAVE TO use but NO ONE WANTS to use - with ASP.Net MVC, ASP.NET MVVM (Yes, both!), KENDO MVVM, KENDO UI, JQUERY and not a single line of typescript or modern web framework...
After I told them, that was not why I was hired and not what I was promised, they told me in summer I will get this brand new project, not a single line of code written.
Every new project of my company in the last 2 years was in React / Redux / Typescript and ASP.Net Core WebAPI - So I invested a bunch of weekends to get into it to be able to lead such a new project!
Today I recieved a Email from my boss, that because "we have to be on the same stack as the sister-project" we will use jquery and kendo mvvm....
What the fuck... -

The Chrome plugin "Darkness" (I might have mentioned it before 😅)
Yes I know "Stylish" was a thing and it has been replaced, but by then I was way to invested in "Darkness" and it has some features that the others are missing; the styles are tested and maintained and it has themes to choose from.
And it has been a nice experience working with scss 😄 -
I work in a BPO. I like my current assigned foreign client with continuous work and my BPO company wants me to assign to a local client to start from scratch again.
I invested time and effort for this hard foreign client then after all that they will replace me in the future with other employee? Quite sad 😞3 -
7 monthos ago, i invested a ridiculus amount of money on crypto. The day this month i decided to buy a battery for my loved laptop, i was notified that this crypto had doubled its price. Thanks Lord My God, i said, without any work and stress, i had 100% profit, i would totally buy the battery from the new money, i converted them all in euros, and started my odyssey.
Well, the platform, need 2fa to withdraw your money. But it did not inform you, it only had a popup saying "Reming me later".
WTF means "remind me later", for me it is something optional!!!! No red colours, no messages like (try again, your transactionr requires this ) etc.
Time is the only resource that do not come back, and i feel that my profit is already less, since the hour i spent searching, and searching, and then searching the chat (which is very well hidden...) and then chatting, and then writting this rant, i could have worked for the same amount of money.....6 -

Backstory:
Got into a "fellowship" program with a community. They provide the templates for their website and we have to work and edit it to suit their needs. Now with a bunch of colleagues who have also been selected I finished the first part (i.e building the site) now they are training us to use their APIs and include it in their site and build the backend.
All of this I am doing without pay and according to them the benefit I get is "understanding how the industry works" and that "it will benefit us" with a promise that if we finish their sites, companies and startups will give us paid internships. I already know how APIs function and I'm not that invested in frontend stuff.
Jumping to the main question:
Should I continue here or should I quit?
Is this how the tech industry works?
Also an explanation to your answer will be great too!2 -
Not exactly a rant, but I'm wondering where to go next with my learning.
I'm a c# dev and I want to get more into massive, scalable, distributed application development.
I sort of want to be with the "cool kids" i.e. open source, node.js, docker, scala, you name it. I get that open source moves quickly, but I get the feeling that every new framework is a fad.
Then again there is the corporate world with shitloads of money who are invested in .net and will very soon want people who can redesign their software so that their management can use all the buzz words.
I'm thinking into get into consulting and claim my slice of pie there by designing their solutions to go on the cloud so they can throw even more money at microsoft.
Anyway, I'm doing a bit of soul searching so feel free to throw in your 2 cents1 -
Having a dilemma... I need help with my gaming projects. I know a guy who I could train since he has lots of potential but Im having trust issues. Its because I invested around 10k into my codebase and Im afraid to give access to that guy since I suspect that he might use files and some day run away to make his own project. So im back to square 1 again which is loosing my mind with this huge workload. What should I do? Should I just say fuck it ant make him sign some air tight NDA agreement? Even then he could stand up and leave 2 months in and open a competitor project if he doesnt like my management style...3

A year ago I and my friend started a startup with equal share but in a year I have invested a lot more time for business than him and also posses far better skill than him, so asked if we should reconsider our share. He has declined to reconsider our share but willing to increase my salary which I am not comfortable. I am in great dilemma what should I do next. Should I leave the company before it's too late?4

Many binary operations are rippers. I invested about $320,000 then i decided to withdraw after several week but the withdrawal wasn’t successful, then I tried to contact the binary operation email and phone number, I didn’t get any response from them that was when everything started looking weird. Some weeks later I got a mail from them insisting I should invest more money if I want to withdraw my money which I rejected, and I never hear from them again that was when I knew I had been scammed. I was really devastated at those moment and felt so bad that my hard earn money is gone. After some month I came across a lot of testimonies on many bitcoin site how RECOVERYHACKER101 @ GMAIL []com had helped many people recovered there stolen, scammed or duped money on bitcoin or any other form on digital currency. If you have ever fallen victim to a bitcoin or cryptocurrency fraud, I strongly suggest using Wizard James Recovery service to assist you get your money back. A few weeks ago, someone on Instagram claimed to be in the investment business and that I could profit greatly from all of my investments. I’m Nancy Graves from Richmond, Kentucky, and a few months ago, I invested some money into a cryptocurrency platform, I was told by the account manager to make payment in Bitcoins and Ethereum worth $173,000 hoping I would make huge returns on my investment. After some time, I tried to withdraw but I was not given access to my account and was told to put in more money. I found out this platform is a scam and these fraudsters have defrauded me of my money. I’m truly grateful to Spyweb Cyber service, a company that helps victims of cryptocurrency scams to recover their money, I was fortunate to come across their review on an article and I contacted Spyweb, I provided all the information they needed and my money was recovered within 72 hours. I’m truly grateful for the work of Spyweb and how they recovered my money. I highly recommend them to everyone.

HOW CAN I HIRE A HACKER TO RECOVER MY STOLEN BITCOIN. CONNECT WITH FASTFUND RECOVERY.
Following an online cryptocurrency theft, I was repeatedly duped in my desperate search for a prompt help to recover my money. Even after paying all the fees that were consistently asked, I could not retrieve any of the $146,000 that I had invested, let alone the profits. Two weeks later, I came across a review on Fastfund Recovery, a hacker who, given the right information, could break into the scammer's account and retrieve money back. I sent him an email as soon as possible. I was shocked that he could get my money back from the swindlers. In less than 48 hours, he assisted me in getting the money I had lost. Please get in touch with him for his best-ever performance.

I’ve built a ’self-serve’ inline-app/widget for our customers to book a moving quote appointment themselves. One of the ‘pages’ has a couple address autocomplete form fields. I went with a service called placekit, but used a CDN they offer. There is a more robust node.js library they offer, but couldn’t get it working. To be fair, I am completely new to node.js. I want to learn it, any recommended tuts, or readings? The company I work for is really invested in old technologies, we use SVN still. Does node play well with SVN? The IT lead for my department is opposed to connecting node to our DB, but I think we will be forced to for our upcoming automated testing project, it too is node, that’s what prompted my goal to learn it.2

EXPERT IN STOLEN CRYPTOCURRENCY RECOVERY- RAPID DIGITAL RECOVERY
My all time dream was growing my savings through forex trading, drawn by the allure of high returns and the promise of financial growth. When I discovered an online platform that claimed to offer consistent returns with minimal risk, it seemed like an opportunity too good to pass up. The website was professionally designed, customer service was responsive, and the initial returns on my investments were encouraging. Lured by these assurances, I invested a significant amount—$760,000 over several months. At first, everything appeared to be going as planned. My account was credited with gains, and I was even able to withdraw some profits, which reinforced my belief in the platform's legitimacy. This initial success only fueled my confidence, making the subsequent events all the more devastating. Then, without any prior warning or explanation, the situation took a drastic turn. One day, I found myself unable to access the platform. My account balance had mysteriously vanished, and attempts to reach the company were met with silence. The website, which had once been sleek and functional, was now inaccessible. My heart sank as I realized the gravity of the situation—I had been scammed. The shock and despair that followed were overwhelming. The realization that I had lost everything I had invested was paralyzing. The sense of betrayal and helplessness was compounded by the apparent finality of the situation—no access to my funds, no way to contact the company, and no clear recourse for recovering my losses. Just when I was about to give up hope, I stumbled upon a service called Rapid Digital Recovery. Initially, I was skeptical, having been burned once already. However, Rapid Digital Recovery presented itself as a specialized firm with a track record of recovering funds lost to online scams. They offered a structured process that included an initial assessment of my case, followed by steps aimed at tracing and recovering the lost assets. I decided to reach out to them, sharing all the relevant information about the platform and my investments. I had so much faith in this company that I invested $90,000 without a second thought. My investment grew to an impressive $200,150. I decided to withdraw a portion to help out. After countless so-called verifications, they shockingly demanded I pay 20 percent of the total amount upfront before any transaction could proceed. What seemed like a great experience turned sour until a friend recommended **HACKINGPROFESSIONAL3 AT G MA IL . C OM**. Their top-notch security architecture swiftly came to my rescue, and within a few days, I recovered my entire investment. . Make sure to check out
